Hey Bill, looks like they're listening. They hate you. You gotta love that. Secular progressives are irked by anyone disagreeing with what they say. Nice to know there is at least some media out there not slanting the news to suite their agenda. Believe it, the majority are thankful you tell it like it is.

Ulysses S. Grant made Christmas a federal holiday for one purpose only; to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

After all these years of the phrase “Remember the Reason for the Season" it is no longer correct. We are now saying celebrate the birthday but don't mention the name of the honoree? Does this make any sense at all?

We should be thanking O'reilly; he's only trying to keep the ‘Grinches’ from stealing Christmas.

I'll agree that Christmas has become too commercialized, but, ironically, that isn't the part that is being banned. It's the reason for the celebration that is under siege.

I hope all of you have a Very Merry Christmas and don't forget the real Reason for the Season: IT'S THE BIRTHDAY OF CHRIST!

In view of the fact that there is no proof (other than the "bible") that a "jesus" ever lived, why all the fuss?

You may as well have a "happy tooth fairy day." Same thing. No tooth fairy, no "jesus." Oh, and yes, no "god" either. No "god," no "son of god."

Paul,

I consider the Chinese my contemporaries. Ireland built one of the largest monuments and stellar timeclocks more than 600 years before the pyramids of giza.

What's dangerous about O'Reilly's line is that it links Christian virtue with prosperity, a theme that reared its head in neoclassical economics since the 1800s. Under that thinking, people are poor because they're bad, and inequality is justified.

Here, since the right wingers are so alergic to the Sermon on the Mount, here is a little diddy from Romans that I think could help put things in perspective.

“They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit, and the poison of asps is under their lips.Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness

Their feet are swift to shed blood:

Destruction and misery are in their ways:

And the way of peace have they not known...."

You are right Acksyn Jacksyn, (I'm just a FIN packet, or maybe a RST) cool handle.

In fact, in light of the topic, and the preaching from the likes of Bill O'lielly, I will wax biblical for a moment. Muse on the O'lielly.

That' the problem, that most fundamental Christians like O’lielly seem to overlook, is that Jesus didn't come to institute a religion; he came to free us from the bonds of false religious pragmatic rituals and practices. His words to them could easily be directed at the current Christian right movement;

“Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups and many other such like things ye do”

-- Matthew 15:9 - Mark 7:7

He condemned ritualistic practices and prayers; in fact, he condemned pretty much every religious leader of his day. What makes O’lielly, Falwell, Robertson, any of them, think he would do any different today? Just because the so called right wing say they worship him, doesn’t mean they are doing what he said. Jesus encountered this type of beguiled worship;

“Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.”

-- Matthew 15:7

It is interesting to note, that in the preceding verses which can be complicated to read, he gave an example of someone taking a scripture, and twisting it so badly as to promote the exact opposite of what it was intended to say.

So what did Jesus want of those who would claim to follow him? Simple actually.

In the Gospel of John, he said “if you love me, keep my commandments” and his commandments were simple, commandments that he recanted in the Sermon on the Mount. Among those were these classics:

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Sounds like pacifist dogma does it not? At least if you’re a right wing republican you would not say such things in your local beer bar. No talk of “stay the course” here, no “acceptable collateral damage”. Just downright tree-hugging peacenik crap. Of course, the right winged Christian preachers seem to mysteriously overlook the teachings of Christ himself, and instead focus on his life, or scriptures from the Old Testament to support their warring philosophy. See they would have you believe that understanding Jesus, his life and teachings, are complicated, and not for the layperson. They are only to be understood by the learned scholars, and pious priests, who in turn teach the true meanings to the masses. But this is the great lie. The great whoredom of his gospel.

Jesus tailored his gospel so all can understand. He said it was the “good news” and he said from his well, all could drink. And so he taught simple, easy to understand but excruciatingly hard to do concepts, and he even used fun little stories, called parables, to deliver them to the general public. But today, just as in his day, the religious population has corrupted the message, the spirit and intent of the law, and turned to the easy, chest pounding, burn all who oppose at the stake philosophy, and they have spread their twisted gospel with blood and horror on the face of our little planet.

Perhaps Jesus had us in mind when he said,

“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment. But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment”

Hmmm, angry with our brothers without cause you say? So if being angry with our brothers without cause gets us the “judgment” I wonder what going to war with our brothers in Iraq without cause will buy us?

Guess we'll just have to wait and see on that one, won't we?

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see on that one, won’t we?

Its so nice of Bill to worry about those Millionaire CEOS.

Yupp Read it Marie, thx for link.

Jesus flipped the tables of the money Changers. He was NOT a fascist Neo-Con. He preached helping the poor, not serving the Fascists Likudian Neo-Cons and their plans to destroy the constituion, remove social security, and ACTUALLy start poor farms and 'Harvest' them. (NCCC IRD TOOLEY EDGAR letter)
Neo-Cons are so twisted, I wonder if MAnn Coulter realizes that if the Neo-Cons ever turh America into a Tyranny, the ones that Helped bring it into being, WILL be the VERY FIRST to go.

Wake UP MAnn. Naw on second thought, forget what I said. MAnn you deserve whatever you get.

Did anyone read the brad blog.com today? He's got a tale about Ann Coulter sinking to new depths in publishing the personal information of someone who contacted her asking pesky questions.
Sorry, it's off topic, but I just read it and I had to do it.

LUKE CHAPTER 16
19 ¶ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22     And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
