On Today Show, O’Reilly Compares Murtha With Hitler Sympathizers

Bill O’Reilly on the Today Show this morning:

These pin-heads running around going, “Get out of Iraq now” don’t know what they are talking about. These are the same people before Hitler invaded in WWII that were saying, “He’s not such a bad guy.” They don’t get it.

Watch it:

(QuickTime Streaming)

Of course, the most prominent person calling for withdrawing from Iraq now is decorated Vietnam veteran Rep. Jack Murtha.

he’s got his own damn show – don’t invite him onto yours, Katie! ps: I’d be careful – he may be trying to look up your skirt… he may pull the old “dropped my pen” routine….

  2. Quisp says:

I’m sure that Bill is drawing upon his decades of direct military experience.

Damn, is there no other “evil” we can compare to? Like Barney? Or Am-Way?

  5. Str8UpNoChaser says:

    *Doing the math*

Hmmmm it just doesn’t add up. I’m 32 Bill. I wasn’t around to make any comments about Hitler. Neither were a big percentage of folks that support troop redeployment.

Is anyone else weirded out by his constant Hitler references? Does he have a Nazi fetish or what? Creepy.

  6. Erroll says:

    Quisp-

I echo your sentiments. This has to be the height of hypocrisy for someone like O’Reilly to question the patriotism of those who question the policies of the government while O’Reilly mysteriously managed to avoid putting on a military uniform and ending up on the front lines in Vietnam. He is doing the same thing he did after the U.S. invaded Iraq, saying that he would “spotlight” anyone, like Barbra Streisand, who would have the temerity to question the wisdom of the government taking this country to war. Of course, Couric allows him to say these things without challenging the veracity of O’Reilly’s statements.

  7. Jay says:

Seems like every day O’Doofus comes up with another moronic statement for his enemies on the left to crucify (he’d like that word) him with, he doesn’t know when to shut his fascist mouth.

A wise person once told me that “empty vessels make the most noise.” How true.

  8. Chris in AZ says:

Stop posting BOR crap, he is not worth the attention he craves!

  9. liberal elite says:

I’m with Chris. Tell Bill O’Reilly to take a number!

  10. buzzbike says:

Gee, weren’t some of the more notable Nazi sympathizers prior to the US involvement in WWII, members of the Bush, Mellon, and Scaife families, to name a few? Families/people that today write a lot of blank checks to support right wing/fundamentalist think tanks, which also create and furnish a lot of information and opinion to O’Reilly and the Bush White House?

If I wanted to listen to a turd speak, I would install a telephone in my toilet. I’m all for the 1st Amendment, but if ever there was an argument FOR abortion…it’s Bill O’Reilly and his ilk.

  11. mighty aphrodite says:

The “Neville Chamberlain/Joseph P. Kennedy” mentality is reproduced every generation. Mercifully, not many are afflicted with this lethal disease. I have been wondering since last night if the poor, kidnapped Christian “peace workers” have been able to negotiate with their captors?? (Hopefully, they fell into the hands of ransom seekers and not radical Islamofascists.) The lesson here? Maybe it’s best to leave dealing with kidnappers and killers to the professionals.

  12. SpudgeBoy says:

Here, let me straighten that out for you Bill.

The people who think that the illegal pre-emptive strike on Iraq are the same type of people who thought an illegal pre-emptive strike on Poland was bad.

  13. justoneperson says:

Gosh;could we please just not give this nut job anymore publicity.I now know why I never watch the today show………..god Katie; get a real job will you?

  14. katy says:

hey, he DID say one thing that, i think, we all can agree with: he wonders why it’s taking 2 years to get the iraq army trained, why aren’t they ALREADY trained?!? he was very agitated…

then he went and spouted off with this “pin-head” remark…

and no mention of “the list” that msnbc is on…

  15. hardass says:

I lived thru the same era that O’Silly’s talking about /
He sounds more and more like Geobels , Hitler’s propaganda minister . May be his ambition to replace that position at the WH . He should be careful , he may end up as a war criminal and suffer the same fate .

  16. mighty aphrodite says:

Sponge – Your Poland comparison (clever reichwing stuff, but ignorant) is like comparing bagels and borscht.

  17. Dick (no, not that one) says:

Who books guests on “Today”? Bill O’Reilly as a military expert? The only weapon he’s ever wielded is a falafel. Why not get an actual military expert like, oh, I don’t know, a colonel with 27 years in the Marines? Or how about Brent Scowcroft, or Gen. Shineski, or Larry Wilkerson or somebody who actually has a freakin’ clue. I know, how about Al Franken, he’s actually been to Iraq a number of times?

    Like Prescott Bush, you mean?

  20. kindness says:

Now let us be honest. Mighty pain in the aphrodite – what, you don’t like the naming of prominent republican Oligarch clans (Bush, Scaife, Mellon) who went out of their way to try to continue to reap profits off of nazi germany so you throw in a Kennedy. Well, Kennedy might not have been a vigilent anti nazi but it’s my understanding that his clan made their money cleanly – by importing booze from Canada during the prohibition. Are you equating that with business with nazi’s by giving them the means to wreck havoc on the rest of Europe/Russia with oil? A curious point to be claiming some tangible superiority, isn’t it?

O’Liely should be examined thoroughly when he says nutjob things like this. And he should be inextricably linked to the right wing nuts that currently run the Republican party.

  21. yankeluh says:

After putting MSNBC on his enemies list why is NBC giving this f*** any airtime?

  22. freedom is not free! says:

Still, TP could ignore him as a complete

  28. Blue Demon says:

Speaking of Falafel Bill’s enemies list, he has The NY Daily News on it-which regularly runs his syndicated column!

  29. Average TV Viewer says:

    MA,

If I’ve noticed anything about you it is that you are just cryptic enough that you absolve yourself of real debate. You think it’s intellectualism. It showcases itself as hyped opinion. Either crap or get off the pot already.

  30. Mike says:

What Hitler invasion is he talking about? Cechoslovakia? Poland? France? Russia? The U.S. did nothing asbout these invasions thanks to peoble like Henry Ford, Joseph Kennedy and oh yea Prescott Bush. The only people caling for a war against Fasism befor an invasion were the Reds, that went to Spain to fight agains Franco, Hitler and Mussolini. They were then not allowed to fight in WWII because they were prematurly anti-fascist.

  31. afterthought says:

    Average TV Viewer,

Yeah, that has become a pretty steady
pattern with MA. Ryan can get he/she (?, really – I don’t know)
    quite riled up at times.

  32. Ohio 2nd » Bill O’Reilly Trumps Schmidt says:

[...] Coward?!! Try Nazi sympathizer. [...]

  33. Cathy Carlberg says:

O’Reilly has no true conviction because he’s paid huge amounts of money and whatever else to reflect the sentiments of the neocons. What is more disturbing is that his opinions are given credence by The Today Show. He will continue his mercenary thing as long as he is provided an audience. Let’s just say “NO” to anyone that airs this ridiculous person.

  36. Average TV Viewer says:

MA’s schtick seems most of the time to be deliberate setups by progressives. Softballs. I don’t get it.

  37. cynical ex-hippie says:

“You know, I am beginning to Like Communists as long as it pisses people like BOR Off!”

That’s exactly how Communism spread in Central America. The government strongmen were denouncing all their enemies (i.e. anyone who criticized them) as communiststs. After a while, people started thinking, “If these jerks don’t like communists, then I’ll be a communist too!” They didn’t necessarily believe in communism, they just saw that teachers, scientists, clergy, and other pillars of society were being labeled, and wanted to share that label.

In what must be bitter irony for Reagan fans, communism began its decline only after Congress cut off military aid to the anti-communist dictators.

  38. 7 says:

A- Hitler declaired war on us, we didnt declair war on Germany. BOR needs to hit some history books
B – Most of the people against the war were not around in 1936. So how can this be the “same people”?

  40. Zippy the Other Pinhead says:

I’m just thrilled that O’Liely actually used my S/N on national TV!! I guess that means I’m on his Enemies List — happy happy, joy joy!

I guess it wasn’t bad enough that the Today show has been channelling the repugs over the last several months more and more; now they invite this bugger on… More reason to switch to ESPN’s Cold Pizza for the morning “newsertainment”, I guess…

  41. Zookeeper says:

What was cute little Katie’s response to BO’s pearl of wisdom? A giggle, right?

  42. El Perro Patron says:

What do you expect from a retard? You get what you get with O’Reilly. That’s his shtick. That’s what the knuckle-dragging morons who make up his audience want to see. Its theater for the brain-dead.

Inviting O’Reilly onto a show and expecting him not to make some outrageous ignorant comment is like inviting a dog into your home and expecting him not to shed.

  43. Joe Sixpack says:

I must have missed the Today show starring the rightwing hero and former-draftdodger, Bill O’Reilly. I must have been pissing beer and watching “Crank Yankers” or something.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Bill has not been to Iraq since Bush sent the troops there to spread “freedom”
so he must be basing his conclusions on the Faux News Talking Points he and Hannity both get daily.

  44. Enough Is Enough says:

When will somebody respond – on the air – to this cretin with a ‘You really are a vile piece of s**t, aren’t you?…Why don’t you just leave? We’ll get along without you quite well, thank you.’

C’mon, will someone please put this guy in his place and keep him there.

  46. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

There was a wonderful This Modern World comic in today’s paper. Two people in a car. Passenger repeatedly warning of danger ahead. Driver saying he had a map and knew where he was going. Of course they drive off the end of the cliff.

Punch line: The driver faults the passenger for wanting him to fail.

    Sound familiar?

Bottom Line: Bush Apologists == Retards

  47. jjjj says:

ah..and here’s Joe Liebermann…former Democrat, on MSNBC with Don Imus, spouting his strangely REPUKE doctrine, as set forth in the WSJ Yesterday…what is going on? Do the Repubs want to really repudiate Murtha, their hangdog military wannabe? But do it with Joey ? IS that even logical?

  48. sfpinko says:

  49. Mme flutterbye says:

He’s on the TODAY SHOW because , like Coulter and Hannity, he’ll draw certain kinds of listeners who are easily seduced by the commercials. It has nothing to do with anything he says. It’s the commercials that air between his remarks that are important to NBC. It’s not amazing to me anymore what the media will do for money money money money money! Look at Woodward et al.

  50. joey jojo says:

Why must people always have to put someome down in order to make themselves look bigger, leave Hitler alone already!

  51. Joe Sixpack says:

Some of you liberals would ask, “What credibility does this pervert have regarding Iraq.” Yes, as a rightwing liberal I’ll be one of the first to admit that he is a “pinhead” draftdodger turned armchair warrior and lowdown womanizing sexual deviant. That said, I’ll leave it to aphrodite to defend him.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but he is one of the original defenders for Bush’s military action against Iraq, who said continously, “If we don’t find weapons of mass destruction, I’ll be one of the first to apologize.”

On a serious note: what’s with that great big turkey neck hanging down under Bill’s chin? Has he got gout or something?

  54. mighty aphrodite says:

#22 – No, Blindness, I “didn’t throw in a Kennedy” – but he was such a clumsy target (along with Charles Lindberg). The patriarch of the Kennedys not only profitted from his company’s boot legging but also shady stock dealings. THAT should strike terror in the hearts of anti-capitalists EVERYWHERE!!

Regarding Prescott Bush – I have found prog ideologues rarely influenced by the facts. So for the few curious liberal minds out there, visit http://www.em.wikipedia.org/Prescott_Bush#Nazi.ties. (Oh well, whether you are a Kennedy, a Bush, a Rockefeller, etc. there is usually a “pirate” in every corporate closet.) There are a host of prominent people and corporations (www.karenlyster.com/hitler) who went out of their way to keep America on the isolationist track promised repeatedly by FDR – or to profit from business ties with Nazi Germany. I simply added more to your point.

Quick “q” – Since most cars and industry currently run on petroleum would you:
a.) Try to use Mazola in your Prius – and carry a longer cord.
b.) Let industry grind to a halt – Americans are too fat anyway!
c.) NEVER open any new oil fields in the US – between Mazola and the thinning of America we CAN maintain a pristine ….(fill in the blank).

  55. The Witch says:

On a vaguely related note, has anyone here read “The Plot Against America” by Philip Roth? It’s an extremely thought-provoking book and really discusses the connotations on both sides.

  56. jim preston says:

What the hell is O’Reilly doing on the Today show? It is unthinkable that NBC would give him the credibility. I went along with him appearing on The Daily Show, as Jon Stewart pretty much made a fool of him:
Stewart: One question, Why so angry?
O’Reilly: There are a lot of bad people out there doing a lot of bad things. We’ve got to stop them.
Stewart: So, when are you going to start on that?

I don’t watch “Today”, but I am about ready to boycott NBC.

Mad Murtha is a two-bit hit man for the left. He knows the media will follow anyone who has something negative to say about the war. (especially a Democrat war vet)

But as people are seeing today with the health of the economy no longer in question by sane individuals, the liberal media has a tendancy to exaggerate negative events such as Katrina and of course, the war.

America is a tough country and it’s a shame people like Murtha will so easily bet against it. Shame on Think Progress for cheering defeat.

Hint to Katie and The Loofah King: No one cares.

What will be your reaction if the rumors are true and Couric is the next CBS Evening News anchor, occupying the same chair Waler Cronkite sat in? Laughter? Revulsion? Cynical detachment?

As one of my colleagues said, “You can always trust someone after you’ve seen the inside of her ass.”

  66. TerrytheTurtle says:

Taking my own advice: I don’t agree that Bill has the same kind of talent of Goebbels – he’s not that clever.

  67. cynical ex-hippie says:

#56, as you know Kennedy was put in charge of building what is now the SEC. Clearly someone thought he knew what he was doing. And nobody today is so puritan as to consider bootleggers on par with Nazis.

I can’t answer your multiple choice, but I can offer my own:

    a) Recognize that the oil will run out, regardless of what we do. Also, act like it.
    b) Conserve fuel today. The less we burn today, the more time we have to develop a viable alternative to petroleum.
    c) Put federal money into developing an alternative. The last major energy source developed was nuclear. That was from a massive government program. As it should be. You wouldn’t want a thousand private nuclear programs competing for profit would you? The next major new energy source will need to be at least as powerful.

Finally, if you think liberals are anti-capitalists, I invite you to do business here. We can always use a new sucker. I love it when red state conservatives come here thinking they’re going to walk all over us. We’re the 5th largest economy in the world. We are better capitalists than most.

    Under the Radar

IRAQ — PENTAGON PUTS OUT ‘COVERT PROPAGANDA’ IN IRAQ: Following the Education Department’s “covert propaganda” campaign in the United States, the Pentagon is now secretly paying Iraqi newspapers to publish stories — favorable to the United States — written by the U.S. military. But when published, these stories often are presented as “unbiased news accounts written and reported by independent journalists.” The stories contain quotes from anonymous military officials, and it is “unclear whether the quotes are authentic.” “Absolute truth was not an essential element of these stories,” said a senior military official. One newspaper that readily accepted the Pentagon’s newspapers was Al Mutamar, the newspaper run by associates of Ahmad Chalabi.

MILITARY — ARMY TRIES TO REENLIST FORMER SOLDIERS: In an effort to meet their goal to enlist 80,000 soldiers this year, “the Army has a new offer: Join us and regain your old rank without repeating basic training.” The Army hopes to plug last year’s 7,000 soldier recruitment gap. “The Army previously had welcomed back former service members, but only under conditions that made it unattractive to most, namely that they would lose their prior rank and were required to take basic training again.” The new offer applies to all former soldiers who return to the Army after being out of uniform for fewer than five years.

how ironic that he would use a hitler reference when the president’s own grandfather was a hitler supporter.. google ‘prescott bush hitler’

the similarities between 9/11 and the reichstag fire are pretty eerie too.. both bush and hitler ended up with a war of agression against those that hadnt attacked them (called terrorists or communists at the time).. turned out that germans had set their own reichstag on fire to fuel the will for a war for agression.. the same will eventually be found to be true about 9/11..

9/11 was an inside job, orchestrated by dick cheney through the use of 5 live fly wargames on the morning of 9/11, wake up people!

****I hate Twinkies – but I think Susan has a few dozen left. Guess you missed the part about children being vaccinated, schools opening, political debate taking place, trials proceeding against Saddam and his followers, Iraqi forces successfully protecting polling stations, increased number of batallions relying on less US military leadership and tactical planning… But like so many negative Chicken Littles, keep running around in circles shrieking, “The sky is falling!!! The sky is falling!!!!(Maybe you’ll work off a few Twinkie calories.)

Murtha is well respected by republican and democratic members of both the House and Senate. Time for you to look before you leap.

“the liberal media has a tendancy to exaggerate negative events such as Katrina and of course, the war.”

No exageration needed. Bush not showing support is what brought out the negatives. And that goes for the war and Katrina. No support from our leaders.

“America is a tough country and it’s a shame people like Murtha will so easily bet against it.”

Murtha is THE biggest supporter of our military than any other person in Washington they only people that don’t get that are the Bush administration and you.

Wow, a clear admission of faith based politics.

I am HOPING that George Bush will choke on another pretzel. What er the odds of that? About the same as bringing democracy to the middle east. You see, they don’t want our brand of democracy. They have Islam. Are you gonna try and convert them awawy from Islam?

It blows me away that people still buy this sh*t every day. Both my in-laws LOVE FAUXNEWS. They ONLY trust Faux. They paint me a pinko-wuss-liberal (another traitor).

My MOther-in-Law contiued to argue “TRUTH” is subjective. I tried to correct her, We have truth and opinion, they are not the same. She would not give up her point, so since judgement is so subjective you might as well pick the TRUTH you want.

I am trying to teach my kids truth to power no matter who is in control. Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth. My in-laws don’t care about truth, only what they want to believe so I guess I cracked one of the reasons how American’s can still buy this crap. I mean, what the hell do they think America is great for; why America is the greatest country on earth???

Honor and justice the american way… what idiots. They go to great lenghts, crazy duplicity to continue Bush SUpport. THEY BELIEVE BUSH IS THE GREATEST PRESIDENT!!! I just can’t possibly understand… sigh

“Don’t believe that traitor Michael Moore!” they tell me. When I ask why they say he is lying to sell books. FOX is the only network that EVERY talking head has published books, and many more then 1!! uggghh!!

I swear, sometimes I get so crazy in my head I want a civil war.

Also, you’re confusing the words “Hussein” and “terrorists”. They had nothing whatsoever to do with each other. That is a fact. To bad the current Republican president doesn’t let facts stand in his way. Too bad the current Republican president is nearly as smart as the former Republican president.

  128. MarcWW says:

Oh, Danny, by the way, one of the principal people involved with the decision to not try to remove Hussein from power in 1991 was Dick Cheney. He publically defended that decision, and with some very well-reasoned, well-thought out points, I might add. Talk about a flip-flopper.

  129. Glenn says:

Boy, I know I’m gonna get flamed for this one, but Judd, you’re stretching things a bit to say that O’Reilly compared Murtha to “Hitler sympathizers.” Look, I hate O’Reilly, and what he said was stupid, but let’s not do what he does and twist people’s words to try to score cheap points.

First (and I’m going by your quote here, I haven’t watched the video): He didn’t say Murtha, he referred to people saying “Get Out of Iraq Now” (assuming there are such people). Murtha has not said that — he wants a 6 month redeployment and a ready strike force, etc. The Republicans said he called for immediate withdrawal, remember? Their stupid little sham resolution on immediate withdrawal that they tried to say was Murtha/the Dems’ proposal? But he didn’t say that. So, not for O’Reilly’s sake, but for Murtha’s, let’s keep our facts straight here.

Second, O’Reilly’s comment doesn’t necessarily refer to “Hitler sympathizers.” He’s obviously trying to make a lame reference to people like Chamberlain, who I don’t think anybody would call a “sympathizer” of Hitler. He misjudged him, and was too eager to appease him to avoid war, but I don’t think this was out of sympathy for Hitler or his aims.

  130. Liberal Smartass says:

MSM meeting talking heads like Katie that let this crap go unchecked are far worse than scum like O’Reilly. Who the hell ever came up with the notion that the truth tellers and liars need equal air time?

  131. IraqVet says:

So “if” Murtha was a Hitler sympathizer, what does that make O’Reilly…A Communist supporter? Because according to his views, everything should be one way with ONE person stating the facts and everyone supporting it, regardless of their personal beliefs…

But hey, a senile old white man with sun spots and a clear propensity for forgetting snd distortion of the facts, sounds like symptoms of alzheimers to me??? I for one, feel that it is his way of saying he really didn’t understand his ignorance of the time…

  132. Ryan Neat says:

I get so sick of correcting all of you republican retards on this. You know conservatards, you can buy a dictionary if you want to learn english – so few of you seem to even know what basic words mean.

Webster defines fascism as “a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition”

American Heritage instead describes it as “A system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with belligerent nationalism.”

That completely and accurately describes the Bush/Cheney/Halliburton/Exxon/TimeWarner/OLeilly combination of belligerent nationalism. It also describes the fascist trolls on this site to a tee…

Now Republican Children, grow up and go read a book. Illiteracy and ignorance among the reichwing is just embarrassing!

    George HW Bush, samrt.

    George W Bush, stupid.

  135. MarcWW says:

I don’t think that Bush’s grandfather’s support of Hitler has any bearing on the current Bush’s policies, to be honest with you. And I’m quite sure that if GWB was president back in 1941, instead of FDR, he also would’ve taken immediately and decisive action against the invaders.

Imagine…right after the Japanese attack, GWB addressing the nation, and talking about the “infamacousness of the attack”. The next day, in retaliation for the actions of the Japanese, America invades South Africa.

40 years later…America is still in South Africa. Honeymooners everywhere needs a passport and a visa from the Japanese embassy to visit Hawaii. Over 200,000 American troops have died, but those South Africans now know their place.

On second thought, I’m glad that Democratic FDR was president then…

  136. Ryan Neat says:

    Marquis,

Bush’s Grandfather Prescott was both a supporter and FUNDER of hitler. He and his bank were fined after it was discovered.

I know the ideal on conservatism has changed, and I feel that the Republican party has been hi-jacked by a christian initiative that has distorted the views of what the party was truly about…

Reagan was NOt the best President, in my opinion, but he did respect the principles of that party. This guy (BUSH) does not have a clue about the true creed of what a Republican is supposed to be…

Why couldn’t the producers of the show invite Al Franken, Dana Milbrook, Maureen Dowd, or Randy Rhodes

    2. They have no problem invoking Hitler and the Nazi party when describing people who are diametrically opposed to fascism. Instead they are describing themselves and spewing their self-hatred.

    3. They cling to the weak GOP talking points, ie. “freedom’s on the march”, “Iraqi elections”, “Iraq/911, Iraq/911, Iraq/911..”, “cut ‘n run”, “mission accomplished”, etc…..puke

    4. They try to tell us the economy is great when that only applies to career McDonalds burger slingers. You can’t trade skilled jobs for a mop and a broom and say the economy is great. Idiots.

So why are the trolls so damn intersted in the welfare of the Iraqi’s now? Why are they so “compassionate” about liberating a people that they really wanted to blow off the face of the earth prior to the invasion? I’ll tell you why: To stay lock-in-step with their Feuhrer and help continuously change the reasons as to why we invaded Iraq. These filthy degenerates will stop at nothing to hang onto power.

I think if we were going to remove Saddam Hussein we would have had to go all the way to Baghdad, we would have to commit a lot of force because I do not believe he would wait in the Presidential Palace for us to arrive. I think we’d have had to hunt him down. And once we’d done that and we’d gotten rid of Saddam Hussein and his government, then we’d have had to put another government in its place. What kind of government? Should it be a Sunni government or Shi’i government or a Kurdish government or Ba’athist regime? Or maybe we want to bring in some of the Islamic fundamentalists? How long would we have had to stay in Baghdad to keep that government in place? What would happen to the government once U.S. forces withdrew? How many casualties should the United States accept in that effort to try to create clarity and stability in a situation that is inherently unstable? I think it is vitally important for a President to know when to use military force. I think it is also very important for him to know when not to commit U.S. military force. And it’s my view that the President got it right both times, THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MISTAKE FOR US TO GET BOGGED DOWN IN THE QUAGMIRE INSIDE IRAQ.” 4-29-91 Cheney

If vaccinations, schools, political debate, putting Saddam on trial, armed polling places and building a foreign military abroad were popular with Americans it would have been done a long time ago. Americans aren’t into this anymore. It doesn’t make us bad people. Most of us are smart enough to know these aren’t the resons we’re in Iraq. And if a super majority of Americans aren’t into this then the leaders need to follow suit. I don’t think it is mathematically possible for our leaders to care about something more than the people do. If Americans were concerned about these things they would be on the news every night. They’re not. You will blame the media bias but you’re wrong. There are very good reasons feel-good stories don’t come out of Iraq. Censorship is not one of them.

The color-coded terrorist alert went to orange several times during the election, and hasn’t done so since. He tried to paint Kerry as someone who doesn’t know anything about the military (in Vietnam, Kerry was getting shot at, Bush was doing shots). Overall, though, Bush has killed almost as many Americans as bin Laden, although I have to admit he’s approaching that 3000 mark awful quickly. Until Bush, through his hard work, passes bin Laden’s mark, I’m not sure I can call him a terrorist.

I explicitly stated in a different thread that I am not a member of the armed forces, but that if I was I would be more concerned about lack of planning than whether people disagreed with the President. IRI then claimed that my comments were less valid than his because… he hadn’t signed up, but he was “older, more intelligent and wiser” than me.

Ryan then posted a comment about him being 35, which makes him younger than me (I’m 36 if it counts), and I am willing to prove that I am more intelligent and wiser than him.

Every time I post my challenge he seems to stop writing in those threads though…

I wonder why. Probably something to do with the coke that he mentioned he had up his nose.

You don’t have the skills or the tools to challenge me.

  166. MarcWW says:

Gary, the 2004 election was honest, by most accounts. Bush’s 2004 campaign, however, was not. And the 2004 election was not even close to the mandate Bush claimed it is.

I don’t think that only American lives matter. The fact that so many Iraqi lives have been needlessly lost only adds to Bush’s crimes.

  167. Zwack says:

    I-RIGHT-I…

You made your claim, now I want proof. If you prove to be older, wiser and more intelligent than me then I will accept it and admit that I am wrong.

If however I turn out to be Older, Wiser and more intelligent than me then I would like you to stop posting your imbecilic trolls.

Given the evidence we have so far, it seems like I am winning one of the three categories THAT YOU CHOSE already. I am older than you based on the evidence that we have.

If I was going to be mean about it I would claim that that makes me the winner already as at least one of your three options is wrong and you used the conjunction AND rather than OR.

Now, given that the only way you can save face in this is to accept that we prove which of us is more intelligent and wiser. Claiming that “You don’t have the tools for it” simply makes you sound like the yellow-bellied coward that you are.

Now, what are the rules for the Intelligence challenge going to be? (Bear in mind that I have a Masters degreee and complete all of the puzzles in the local paper puzzle page on a 30 minute bus ride in the morning you might want to just cede defeat now.)

I think Occam’s Razor applies here … what’s more logical, that a party was able to “steal/rig” the election of the president or that the party (which holds a majority in both legislative branches already) won because more people 1) thought that party had the better values (ie. traditional) 2) thought that party was stronger on national defense. The democrats lost the last election becuase they failed to realize that moral issues (moral in terms of how traditional Christianity sees it) mobilizes voters and votes.

Yeah, bad science pretty much sums up republican approaches to everything from economics, to warfare to politics…

The whole foundation of ‘conservatism’ is that you already know the answer, that’s why you’re closed minded bigots. So bad science is a natural outcome of that psychosis isn’t it? Of course it is.

  186. Matt O. says:

    Mighty–

Explain to me how this war, where it has been proven that no links to al-Qaeda, no WMD, is preserving the country?

Iraq had one tyrant and a bunch of scared underlings pre-2003. Now? Hundreds, probably thousands of suicidal crazies, some of which are streaming across the borders, and creating more terrorists. How is that preserving the country?

Show me where “some folks” display their belief that the U.S. is not “worth perserving.”

If you were truly preserving America, you would remember that “All men are created equal.” It does not say, “All Americans are created equal, everyone else can suck it.”

People stick around here, MA, because of the possibility of change. The U.S. is not a dictatorship. We can change the government, and it is a fight worth waging.

The only thing you said right was that this is a “wonderful country.” However, it is people like you and BushCo. that are ruining it, destroying our credibility in the world and pissing on the true ideals that made this country great.

“I think Occam’s Razor applies here … what’s more logical, that a party was able to “steal/rig” the election of the president or that the party (which holds a majority in both legislative branches already) won because more people” GeoMetro

Occam’s razor does apply. The easiest explanation for why exit polls mismatch election results in spite of unacceptable mathematics probabilities it defies is surely a stolen election. This ‘razor’ technique for electioneering is what the pentagon used to surmise a stolen election in the ukraine.

Before you use a math principle, understand it next time you dope.

  198. Valdron says:

I must take exception to both O’Reilly’s comments and Aphrodite’s initial comments on this thread. Both show a degree of historical illiteracy that I find it difficult to stomach.

The reality of the thirties was that the world was in a great depression, and both Britain and France were effectively prostrate. America was isolationist. Russia was a reclusive communist Empire. Italy was favouring the Germans.

The truth was that both Britain and France were in a far weaker position, both militarily, economically and in terms of alliances (Russia, Italy) than they had been at the start of WWI.

Moreover, there was very little support for military aggression or strength among free European peoples. The travesties of the first world war had brought down a distaste that made the ‘Vietnam Syndrome’ of the US look like a snit.

The treaty of Versailles had been inequitable and everyone knew it. Hitler, could, with a fair bit of justification, claim equity on his side when re-occupying the Rhine, reclaiming the Saar, and even speaking out for Austrians and Sudeten Germans. I’m not a Hitler fan, and we know where his actions went and what it all resulted in. But in 1933, you couldn’t know it was going to lead to a World War, and you couldn’t really justify occupying the German Saar valley, and you weren’t going to risk a major war.

Hindsight is 20/20 and if Hitler had been stopped during his early political victories, that would have been the end of him. On the other hand, it was very clear that trying to stop those early political victories might simply have lead to a war right then and there, or might merely have fueled war later.

The Czechoslovakian crisis began because 30% of the population of Czechoslovakia were ethnic germans historically living in the Sudeten region bordering Germany. That was a historical and political and social fact that couldn’t be easily dismissed.

In attempting to resolve this crisis, Britain and France compromised Czech independence and aquiesced to the partition of that country. Well, guess what. (1) There was no way for them to help Czechoslovakia, as one look at a map will show. It was a tiny landlocked country far away from Britain and France. War breaks out, its gone. (2) Neither Britain nor France was in any way ready for war.

Neville Chamberlain came to the table with an empty hand, militarily, strategically, economically, and equitably. He did the best he could, and in the end, all he bought was time.

After Czechoslovakia, Britain and France became convinced of Hitler’s intransigence and began to rearm and prepare for war. They also decided that the next line would not be crossed. The fact is that when the war finally came, they were a good deal readier for it.

As it turned out, Britain survived that war, France did not. Had that war come in 1936, the Brits might not have been so lucky.

On the subject of Poland, Hitler began that war on a provocation. A group of Jewish and Polish prisoners were dressed in Polish uniforms, taken out to the border and shot. The Germans then announced a Polish invasion, including reports of German towns and radio stations being attacked. Germany claimed the right of self defense in attacking Poland.

So, bottom line: Pre-Emptive Self Defense against a country that posed no actual threat, and which was based on a pack of lies…. Sound familiar?

This ONLY validates the claim, Patriotism is always in danger of those who wrap themselves in the flag only as a symbol, rather than a creed…”

  200. Valdron says:

And just for the record, ‘vaccinations, elections, etc.’ are not proof that things are going well in Iraq. That’s merely desperate cherry picking.

Saddam Hussein held elections and plebiscites, which oddly enough, got the same sorts of votes (90% or better) than the Provincial tallies in the constitutional rounds. If we assume Saddam’s results meant his elections were not credible, we have to wonder about provincial corruption in the last round.

Vaccinations are carried out by NGO’s, and the US occupation can claim no credit there at all.

Given the state of Iraq, it is difficult to get reliable indicators detailing economic performance and quality of life. But there is one fairly hard core statistic that cannot be disputed: Electrical power generation. I would take Electrical power generation as an indicator of stability, quality of life, economic health and recovery.

As of the current date, Electrical Power Generation after three years of occupation, still fails to achieve levels set by Saddam Hussein three months after the Gulf War. Pathetic.

  201. Gary Kleppe says:

Ryan’s already touched on this, but by all means, let’s apply Occam’s Razor to the ‘04 election. You at home can play! Pick the simpler explanation in each case. It’s fun and educational!

    1) Diebold and other companies are owned by Republicans. The CEO of Diebold was publically quoted as intending to deliver Ohio’s votes for Bush. Machines produced by these companies are completely unauditable and the code they run cannot be inspected by persons outside the company, making it an act of faith to trust that the totals they report bear any relation to actual votes cast, and they consistently favor Republicans over above-board exit polls.

    A) The machines are rigged to favor Republicans.

    B) The machines are honest. Any discrepancies or oddities is a result of the influence of space aliens.

    2) Ken Blackwell, overseer of Ohio elections, was also co-chair of the state Bush campaign.

    A) This is an unacceptable conflict of interest.

    B) This is nothing to worry about. A Republican would never put personal gain over civic responsibility.

    3) In districts heavy with likely Democratic voters, voters were made to wait in long lines for hours in the rain due to insufficient numbers of deployed voting machines. Many voters were sent to the wrong precinct. Still more were harassed by Republican observers, slowing the vote down even further.

    A) This resulted in some people not being able to vote.

    B) No it didn’t.

  208. Giacomo (aka GeoMetro) says:

    Gary

    1) Diebold and other companies are owned by Republicans.

    - Which proves … nothing. Is there any proof that those machines weren’t on the up and up other than the owner of the company is a Republican? Exit polling has been notriously innacurate … a conservative could say that a left leaning media has cause to lean the exit polls the way they want (which I’m not sying, but is along the same lines as the owner of the company is a republican)

    2) Ken Blackwell, overseer of Ohio elections, was also co-chair of the state Bush campaign.

    - Again, proves zip. Every one of the overseers of state elections wants their “guy” to win … this is a fact in all states and does not mean that those people are then more likely to cheat for their candidate.

    3) In districts heavy with likely Democratic voters, voters were made to wait in long lines for hours in the rain due to insufficient numbers of deployed voting machines. Many voters were sent to the wrong precinct. Still more were harassed by Republican observers, slowing the vote down even further.

    – this is an overly broad statement. I know where I need to vote … no one sends me anywhere. Harassmant occurred by both parties (slashed tires, etc.). George Bush could not possibly conjure the rain, so let’s leave that out. I stood in line for almost 2 hours … tough for me.

Do you honestly think it’s easier to say that the above sketchy “correlative” issues are actually “causal” issues than to say “this guy got more votes”. And yes, Ryan, Gore won the popular vote … we all know that … sucks for him about the electoral college thing.

There are more investigations, indictments and guilty please coming from the republican party right now, than I can remember.

Strong defense would be supplying our troops with body armor and madatory armor for Humvees. Defense would be ready in case of an emergency like Katrina.

They blindly sit back and say, sure, the Emperor is wearing a fine set of new clothes, can’t you see it?

I for one am not going to sit back, and let them turn America into a murderous regime of totalitarian dictators, who lock men up without cause or writ, murder wantonly, and use their reactionary laws to commit treason to all we stand for.

    Dear MoveOn member,

In a speech today, President Bush tried to answer the majority of Americans who believe we need to change course in Iraq. But he offered no plans to bring troops home—just flashy public relations.

Bush’s public relations push comes at a tipping point in the Iraq debate. A majority of Americans want troops home in 2006 and former supporters of the war in Congress like Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA) agree.

Members of Congress are changing and examining their position on Iraq right now. It is critical that they hear from all of us. For the next two weeks we’re circulating a petition calling on Congress to insist on an exit strategy to bring the troops home in 2006. Will you sign? Click below.

Indeed. They spoke out but not because of Hitler’s atrocities or grand scheme for Europe but because he was a threat to Stalin and the Russian Red’s grand scheme for world conquest. Henry Ford, Lindberg and the Kennedy clan may not have liked Jews (who does really?)but the reason they supported Hitler was a clear and correct choice between two evils. FDR made a mistake (?) when he sided with Stalin (over 30 million murdered)and at the same time guaranteed the deaths of those 6 million Jews in Nazi occupied territory. Someone less “progressive” than FDR would have cut a deal with Hitler to stop his murders of innocents and divided up Europe.

US foreign policy has been driven by trust in the past as exhibited in exit polls in the 2004 Ukranian election. Come back and comment when you have some facts of your own…

It has been nearly impossible to check the “up and up” of the Ohio Diebold machines because Diebold will not allow anyone to audit their code for “proprietary” reasons. Bullsh!t. They have something to hide. Besides, any equipment or system involved in any U.S. elections should be completely transparent-for all to see.

Exit polling notoriously inaccurate? What world are you living in? Exit polls have been NOTORIOUSLY ACCURATE until the age of Bush. You are simply wrong.

Kenneth Blackwell has done more to stall, obstruct and undermine, the post election investigations of voter fraud in Ohio. He was most certainly involved in the corruption that has since grown to national proportions. He, too, had something to hide or he would have gladly cooperated. He should be indicted for election fraud.

I live in a more up-scale republican district. It took me 2 MINUTES to vote. But then again, Diebold hasn’t infected this area yet. No need to: it consistently votes republican year in and year out.

We know Saddam had WMD’s – because he USED THEM – on the Kurds, Iranians, and probably most important to you sensitive PETA types, dogs. I have to admit…in early 2003, I was all for an invasion of Iraq. I mean, Hussein was sitting there is WMD’s and nuclear weapons, and the bastard had just helped bin Laden in his attack on America. 260. MarcWW says:

Um, MA, you’re not getting the point. I’ll accept blame for not stating it clearly, and try again.

Bill Clinton participated in enforcing the UN’s “No Fly Zone” in Iraq. He used force in Iraq when it became necessary, but no more force than he had to…following the exact same principle that his Republican predecessor used. Afghanistan never posed a direct threat to American interests while Clinton was president, so he had no reason to attack them.

After 9/11, Iraq still posed no direct threat to American interests, nor did they assist the terrorists that attacked America in any way. However, Bush and company explicitly stated otherwise, and used that as justification for this war. They’ve been proven wrong in the meantime, and the evidence suggests (and the majority of American now believe, according to recent polls) that Bush KNEW his arguments were wrong before the invasion, but did it anyway.

  261. Ryan Neat says:

You and MightyHermaphrodite talk all of the time about liberals not being tolerant of ‘religion’, and how funny, neither of you are tolerant of ISLAM! So what you’re both saying is that religious intolerance is the problem you have with democrats after all, because clearly you’re both religiously intolerant bigots!

  271. WORFEUS says:

And by the way I-WRONG-I, what exactly is the definition of Quagmire?

    Websters defines it as,

    1. A Prediciment
    2. A Dilemma
    3. A Quandry
    4. A sticky situation

But hey, those aren’t adjectives to describe our situation in Iraq, right?

    We got it wrong genius?

  272. MarcWW says:

The administration (State of the Union Address, anyone?) explicitly stated that Iraq was in the process of developing nuclear weapons. The inference was that if he didn’t have them yet, he would soon. Turns out that was a lie. Not a misunderstanding, a lie.

The administration (Dick Cheney) explicitly stated that the Iraq Intelligence Agency had verifiable contacts with Al Qeida before the attacks on America. Turns out to not be true.

Nobody said he helped Bin Laden but you’d have to be pretty stupid to rule out the possibility that he knew a few terrorists and would help them. — IRI

Is that “possibiliy” worth over 2100 American lives? We do not risk soldiers lives on a possibility! We risk it on a certainty! Afghanistan was most certainly sheltering the animals that attacked America. Why isn’t that country the focus of our military action?

Call me a stupid true American patriot if you will, but I firmly believe that if our military, the greatest military in the world, was turned loose on Afghanistan with the clear directive to find bin Laden, and given every resource to do so, he would’ve been found by now. Bushie cheated all of us out of justice by the attack on Iraq.

  275. WORFEUS says:

You have just voiced the dirty little secret the republican war machine does not want you to know, MarcWW.

Truth is, Bin Laden wasn’t caught for reasons not yet revealed. But we know, and have known all along, where he is.

Since we gave him our 2 month warning that we were coming into Afghanastan, he headed into the disputed region, between India and Pakistan, where Alqeada has always used as a headquarters.

See the US military is not permitted into this region without escort, and then only by pulling many strings. It is a dense, jungle region, where satallite photos are hard to utilize, and constant fighting turmoil make it very difficult to launch a mission.

Also it’s important to remember, that both India and Pakistan have real armies, real weapons, real fighter jets, and real NUKES.

So the big bad republicans, instead going in after the man who was responsible for 911, just instead went after the easiest little country they could, that still had Arabs in it.

Your pollyanna view of the world is apparently the same as that criminal spy Feith who was caught passing secrets to Israel, and fabricating intelligence reports. The critique against him was that he was ‘pessimistic averse’ – which you seem to share. Ironic you bring up the word Hitler, you being a NeoCon Fascist and all…

Are you guys afraid of any pessimism that’s grounded in facts, or just pessimism in general? You know a little pessimism is both healthy and normal in someone’s psyche that isn’t mentally disturbed – so how long have you had this illness? As long as Feith?

  277. Terrytheturtle says:

#277 – your grasp of WWII history seems weak MA. The UK was not on a war footing until after Munich. Hitler was already on a war footing – the UK used the time to close the gap. Don’t oversimplify. Democracies don’t start wars … at least they never used to.

  278. MarcWW says:

And yet, Worfeus, I have to believe that post-9/11, and pre-Iraq invasion, both India and Pakistan would have allowed the US in there. For a short time, the whole world, including India and Pakistan, was on our side, except for a few nut cases.

Post-Iraq invasion? India and Pakistan, while still technically on our side, are probably very nervous about our intentions. So am I.

  279. Ryan Neat says:

    MightyHermaphrodite,

And yet Ironically you aren’t averse to pessimism as I think of it. You are pessimistic that all liberals and progressives are ‘commies’. You are pessimistic that arabs can’t have democracy without american oppression. You are pessimistic that israel can’t solve it’s problems without subverting american government. And you’re pessimistic that the poor will steal all of your money if you don’t stop them.

You’re plenty pessimistic it appears, but your pessimism seems to be grounded in irrational paranoia, while you ignore the REAL problems of the world. This kind of psychotic avoidance I bet is something you’ve always suffered from….

  280. Ryan Neat says:

    MarcWW,

What’s really sad is that Afghanistan is getting worse by the day because of how badly bushco botched the job. Election results were disappointing during the last election. Lawlessness and oppression of women is on the rise. And illegal drugs are a bigger problem now than ever!

  281. I-RIGHT-I says:

Actually, if we continue on with your timetable, another 4 years will bring those 10,000 body bags genius.

As for Quagmire, it was your Vice President that first used the quote Einstein.

“I think it is also very important for him to know when not to commit U.S. military force. And it’s my view that the President got it right both times, that it would have been a mistake for us to get bogged down in the quagmire inside Iraq.”

    Richard Cheney, April 29, 1991

    Comment by WORFEUS

How does 2000 dead in five years equate to 10,000 dead in ten? Do you think the terrorists are getting better at what they do? I don’t think there will be any more terrorists to kill in Iraq in four years, especially considering what the Iraqi military is going to do to the Sunni Triangle as soon as American Leftists get out of the picture.

Oh, and about that quote. I think he was wrong and I think he knew he was wrong but he was backing George Sr.. I’m not a military genius but giving that bastard ten years to regroup was in my not so humble opinion, a great tactical error that Bill Clinton should have corrected.

  282. Ryan Neat says:

Your silence on this matter indicates you agree with MizzWrong, that ethnic cleansing is a reasonable act against practitioners of islam. At least we know 100% that you’re anti-semitic along with being a fascist idiot. YOU STUPID COW!

  285. WORFEUS says:

Yea I-WRONG-I, your math skills are apparently as poor as your memory.

Just like the fat stupid republican guy who got in hackett’s face on camera recently and when challenged ran away like the little wuss that they all are. I hit them with the only thing they know, which is force…

The common thread is abusive childhoods. It’s why they’re so shattered and incompete as human beings. They’re not really even adults from a ’skills’ and ’socialization’ perspective. They’re stunted by their early traumas, and unfortunately they’ll probably pass on those failures to their children…

The revolt of certain officers to remove Hitler is now a matter of history. Those involved in the attempt were hanged with piano wire. There has been criticism from high ranking military officers in service and retired leading up to pre-emptive invasion and on the conduct of the war. Able Danger, The Downingstreet memo, the goals of the New American Century and Carlyle group should be fully revealed to the American people to show how we got into this phony war. This is a completely unwarranted attack on the French who, by the way, are allies and have been since before WWII. I thought you didn’t like letting allies down.

It is also puzzling this singling out of the French when the Netherlands (to name one) surrendered after an even shorter campaign.

The French Resistance fought the Nazi in the only way a people can when confronted with superior manpower and hardware: Guerrilla warfare. Sabotage. Civil resistance and desobedience in the face of the ruthless occupation.

Many French were caught and died in concentration camps, or tortured at the hands of the Nazi police. Many opposed the nazi treatment of the Jews and helped to hide them -those caught also paid with their lives.

The fight against the Nazi was heroic given the lopsided nature of the conflict. Your sophomoric attempt at making light of the French is pathetic.

  319. Ryan Neat says:

    MrWizard,

She used to call us ‘think communist’, until I pointed out to her that I was a successful capitalist, while she was an exploited prolitariat, making your arguments insane and hysterical. It’s the sort of obssesssion and manic responses one would expect from someone with schizophrenia. Most likely she inherited from her mother, based on the thinks she’s quoted her mother as having said… It does tend to run in families…

  320. Ryan Neat says:

I have not been able to otherwise explain to myself the anti-French stance, and the snubbing of everything and anything French, because it is “elitist”, or “cultured”

  322. Ryan Neat says:

    Gregor,

You hit the nail on the head. The inferiority complex is a big part of the republican psyche. That’s why the throw around ‘elitist’ all of the time. What they really mean is ’smarter’ and ‘more cultured’, and it drives them up a wall.

I’ve spent a lot of time in france, and while the french can be absolutely INFURIATING, they can be some of the most charming, delightful, generous and warm people in the world. They are a engaging mix of all of those traits – but then again they ARE cultured…

And for a relatively small country country population and economics wise, they have a profoundly large footprint internationally. And THAT’s what annoys our retarded cowboys in this country. They are actually better able to leverage what should be an inferior position into an effective checkmate…

This truth is well known among our principal men now engaged in forming an imperialism of Capital to govern the world. By dividing the voters through the political party system, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting over questions of no importance. Thus by discreet action we can secure for ourselves what has been so well planned and so successfully accomplished.” USA Banker’s Magazine, August 25 1924

    Gregor that was well said.

She, like all the smug repugs, like to call the French cowards, because they don’t fit the good-ole shitkickin frogblastin, pheasentshootin inbredneck, that they love so much.

And of course, like you said, the fact the massivly overwhelmed French Army, who had about the same chance of defeating the mighty German Blitkreig as the Iraqi Army did in defeating our own version of “shock and awe”, surrendered as the Iraqi’s did to us, makes them weak and sissies in the good ole boy eye.

In fact, the so now famous “Pollock jokes” were begun due to a an attack by Col. Mastalerz Mounted Cavalrym, the 18th Lancers who drew terrible losses from German armour and their 20mm automatic cannons, on the Pomeranian front, Sept 1st, 1939.

The fact is the Poles fought with what they had, and the deadnecks laugh at them for being, “stupid” as they put it, and the French, because they were cowards. Of course with that logic, they would be calling the French stupid, and the French would be the butt of all those jokes, instead of the Poles.

Gregor and Ryan, I’m with you on the France bashing. So those Frenchmen who fought the Germans and died during the Occupation of 1940-1944 – were they patriots or insurgents? Terrorists or freedom fighters? After all there was a French government in charge of 2/3 of the country after 1940, so they must have been insurgents against the installed regime, right? Bad guys, right? History written by the winners…

  333. Not Suprised says:

In light of the French Bashing from MA, I would like to post something a friend of mine wrote. Please permit me.

    LETTER FROM A FRENCH IMMIGRANT

I came to America quite some time ago.

My trip to America was planned for well over a year.

Everyone I ever knew in France loved and respected America.

Although I was a single female, my countrymen thought I would be a good ambassador.

I arrived in America on board the French frigate “Isere”.

    I didn’t travel light. I came with 214 crates.

I took me four months to settle into my permanent residence.

I was welcomed with open arms by Americans everywhere.

In fact, I was never “naturalized”, I was immediately adopted by America almost unanimously.

I am the only Ambassador to have had millions upon millions of Americans and foreign nationals come to visit me.

I have never once denied an audience with a visitor.

I was inspired by America, and in turn, tried to inspire for America.

Soon, I was no longer the French Ambassador, I was the American “Greeter”.

My face became the “Face of America.” I was so proud to represent America’s Liberty.

I have stood tall and unwavering for 121 years. It was easy, America had my back.

The torch I held was but a reflection of the “light” America gave the world.

    I am saddened today.

You forget my ancestry when you revile my former countrymen.

They thought enough of you to send me. Not a small task, all things considered.

You thought enough of me to let me represent you.

If I could have but one wish granted. I would wish for my pedestal to be turned 180 degrees.

I want to see your face when I ask “What has changed?”

I know I haven’t changed. I was designed that way.

You see, France had a statement to make to you when they made me.

France saw Truth, Liberty, Hope, Justice,Compassion and countless other values in you.

By creating me out of respect for those qualities, They made me unchangeable….permanent, hoping those values would never waver.

I was sent before the “Great War” at the turn of last century, so don’t confuse me with a gift of gratitude.

I came before, as a gift of monumental respect.

I was Frederic Auguste Bartholdi’s life work, but it was the people of France who decided where I should reside.

I want to hold this torch for quite some time to come.
All I need, is for you to shine again.

    written by J.C. Rich January 01, 2005

It really hits me to see how far the world opinion of our great country has slipped as a result of this Administration.

Yes Ryan, thats EXACTLY what I mean.

  337. WORFEUS says:

You know actually it’s kinda funny, see the French women would wait on the balcony’s,waving their skirts at the German halftracks and troop carriers, and the German soldiers.

Then, from under their skirts, wine bottles filled with kerosene, gasoline, anything that would burn, and rags stuffed in the end, they would light them, and toss them from the balconies, onto the unsuspecting German troops, burning them alive in the steel coffins, turned into ovens, and they would cheer with glee.

Of course, they were the bad, bad Germans, and were the good, good Americans.

So when we do bad things, it’s ok. Cause were the good guys. Right?

No, I guess it’s not really funny is it?

***** How ever do you manage getting through life when you are factually wrong at least 50% of time? My mother was an immigrant, I was fortunate enough to be born in this wonderful country. The numbers of the French resistance are highly inflated by….the FRENCH!

MHQ: Military History Quarterly (Winter 1998), Douglas Porch has an interesting article on pp. 99-107.
“In France, “the belief that popular resistance to the German occupation was general, effective, and necessary became accepted as an article of faith…. In fact, the myth of the military effectiveness of the French Resistance was precisely that — a myth!… In the end, the Resistance served as a political movement for preparing the assumption of power by Charles de Gaulle.”

If as many French men and women who claimed to be in the Resistance actually were, France wouldn’t have fallen so far, so fast. Those who couldn’t run hunkered down or hid. Those who helped poor Jews will forever be honored. But a HUGE number of Jews (see the history of Lyon) were shown to their death through the COLLABORATION of their vile, cowardly “neighbours”.

You are correct about the intervention of the French in our Revolution – I think that was their last honourable international endeavor.

It’s not typical practice of trial attornies to ‘go home’ because court adjourned early, they tend to go to the office (home or otherwise) and do work on the ongoing case(s) they have. This statement just proves to me that you’re NOT an attorney, but a poser fake. But your complete lack of understanding on basic legal cases had already proven that to everyone.

    Mighty Aphrodite,

If the Douglas Porch quote is the best you can do, then you are grappling at straws. I know where you got it, because I can google too:

    http://intellit.muskingum.edu/wwii_folder/wwiieurope_folder/wwiieurfrn-z.html

Of course the Résistance was militarily ineffectual from a conventional standpoint: It was a guerrilla movement, with a large civil component that emphasised civil desobedience and sabotage.

The main goal of a guerrilla movement is not to deliver a defeat on the battle field -althought it has happened- but to make the country ungovernable, and to overall disrupt the efforts of the occupier. The fight is as much political as it is military.

That does not take anything away from the efforts of the French patriots who were actively involved in ousting the Germans from their country: The Résistance did not have planes, tanks, or high caliber machines guns like the formidable German army did.

The Résistance coordinated labour strikes within France, as well as attacks by the Maquisards on German supply lines and harrassment attacks on garrisons. They were also involved in supplying intelligence to the Ally forces; intelligence that was essential for the success of D-Day.

The Résistance coordinated the general insurrection in France after it was obvious the invasion of Normandy was a success, and helped the allied troops during their advance towards Paris.

“Those who helped poor Jews will forever be honored. But a HUGE number of Jews (see the history of Lyon) were shown to their death through the COLLABORATION of their vile, cowardly ‘neighbours’.”

As was done throughout Europe -not to excuse the French collaborators, but to point out that the collaborators were as despicable in France, as they were in Polland, Hungary, or Romania. And you cannot use the sins of the fathers to judge the sons.

“You are correct about the intervention of the French in our Revolution – I think that was their last honourable international endeavor.”

I must understand you mean military endeavour. I could argue that, but I’d rather focus on constructive French contributions to the world, like the Médecins sans Frontières, Reporters san Frontières, or the large network of Alliance Françaises around the world whose goal is to make the French culture known, and to act as good will embassadors -you might not think much of this effort, but it contributes to the good image France enjoys abroad. Smart move if you ask me.

And finally, your obsession with bashing the French is more and more puzzling. Yes, the Vichy regime was nothing more than a vile collaborationist lot, but the French people largely opposed the occupiers in whatever degree they could.

  352. Ryan Neat says:

“Living in beautiful San Diego – it is a TREAT when court adjourns early!!!!” MightyHermaphrodite

And yet if we look at the approximate ‘california’ time for when the idiot posts we see:

    7:40

    9:00
    11:30
    1:30
    2:00
    2:30
    4:00

Exactly when did you participate in court today mizz liar? And what exactly were you doing, typing on the laptop while the judge was talking?

Just what I expected, another professional liar republican hack propagandist. No wonder you are so inept at law, clearly you’re not a lawyer, and based on your postings, certainly not a woman. You’re just another personality for that MizzWrong to distract, diffuse and generally act like the ahole he clearly is…

  353. Ryan Neat says:

    Gregor,

That’s how you know mightyhermphrodite is not a woman. The preoccupation of the reichwing is based on a psychological insecurity called anxious masculinity. Peace and the french are both seen as the ‘feminine’ that these people fear actually reflects them.

  354. Gregor Samsa says:

Good point Graeme – but why stop when you were on a roll?? Neither Spain or Britain (in their quest to remain PC) instituted an office similar to Homeland Security – which is surprising, given the level of domestic terror each has had to contend with.
    Comment by mighty aphrodite — November 30, 2005 @ 5:36 pm

I cannot believe you actually typed this. “level of domestic terror” -you probably are talking about the London tube bombings earlier this year, and about the Madrid train bombings last year.

Both countries have been dealing with “terrorists” for longer than you care to remember: London labeled the IRA a “terrorist” organisation and treated the Irish with the same contempt they are treating the Iraqis now.

Successive Spanish governments have been dealing with the ETA -also labeled a “terrorist” organisation- for years, while treating the Basques like second-class citizens.

The fact that neither country has a Homeland Security department is not to remain PC -they simply do not need it, as they have learned to deal with separatist movements (aka “terrorists”) in other ways.

  355. Gregor Samsa says:

The reason it seems irrational to you, is because it is. They’re nuts.
    Comment by Ryan Neat — December 1, 2005 @ 12:40 am

Well, Mighty Aphrodite certainly seems a little irrational in her contempt for everything French.

What have the French done to her? Is it because the French government refused to go along with the invasion? Please. Like a kid throwing a tantrum.

And I thought the “Freedom Fries” congressman was a little immature.

  356. Ryan Neat says:

    Gregor,

There are several ‘triggers’ for them, the french, commies, peace, and of course ISLAM….

They’re just pessimists about anything they don’t think fits their little conservative preconceptions, which ironically change more often than who they hate this week. Remember that Saddam, and AlQaeda were their buddies in the 80s and russia was their enemy. And 3 years ago, bush was saying the exact opposite.

To call republicans schizophrenic is an obvious and redundant statement.

  357. Ryan Neat says:

    Gregor,

This entire group of trolls are PNAC/NeoCon/Zionists. MightyHermaphrodite, NED, MizzWrong, wwallace, they’re all the same group of folks that spout the zealot rhetoric of the PNAC TERRORISM that now inflicts the world. They’re irresponsible, irrational, hateful, stupid and evil. But because most of them have some degree of ‘education’, they’re deluded into believing they’re ’smart’. It’s really sad to see…

That’s why I hit them with the whole freerepublic thing. Those guys (especially powerline/hindrocket) are all PNAC stooges that haven’t had a creative or individual thought in their lives. Their little eichmans in the worst sense of that word.

My guess is that the pentagon is subsidizing some of these guys to go wreak havoc on the blogs, since that’s the only place that consistently and successfully debunks the lies, mythology and utter retarded nonsense of republican idiots…

  358. Ryan Neat says:

    Gregor,

I forgot to also bring home the correlation that the suicide terrorists that hit the world trade center were also ‘educated’, but obviously retarded fools… It seems to be indicative of the folks who are drawn to radical and religiously zealous organizations like PNAC and Al Qaeda.

That’s true -the suicide bombers in the Middle East are not from poor, disenfranchised families but largely from middle class backgrounds.

The Saudis that carried out the WTC attacks were definitely not uneducated but they were seriously misguided.

Coincidentaly, the same is true for Bin Laden: Very wealthy, and overly self-righteous.

Exactly, just like the republican trolls. Misguided, delusional, self-righteous and absolutely nuts.

Whereas Democratic candidates for the 2008 presidential election are all running on platforms of withdrawing the military from the middle east. All of it. Saudi Arabia and all. Right ?

If not trust the man when he says al Qaeda doesn’t care who you elect if you continue the same foreign policy you will remain a target for attacks.

You can talk about misguided Republicans all you like but if nobody anwhere is suggesting they are going to do anything different you can replace the word “Republicans” with “Politicians”.

September 11 happened before the Iraq invasion if you had forgotten. The previous 4 attacks happend under a Democrat leadership.

Are you saying the US should invade and occupy more countries in the Middle East?

Or that the next administration should be Republican? Or both?

  363. mike says:

hitler was a bad guy? Thank god we have bill o’reilly to spread his infinite wisdom!

  364. Ryan Neat says:

    Yeah Tank,

what ARE you trying to say. i’m guessing english is not your native tongue, because what you write is often not completely coherent.

  365. Warrior4Truth says:

What galls me most about O’Reilly is his ability to continue to be a lying propaganda mouthpiece for this administration. His basic discourse on this issue is to smear anyone who disagrees with this administration. Why NBC seems to think his perspective on this issue is worthy of their time is beyond me. Could it be they are spineless and do not feel it necessary to provide the other perspecitve on issues. After all that other network says its “fair and balanced.” Yah give me a break Rupert!

I suggest two courses of action with O’Reilly; 1) Do not watch his show and, 2) Defend the truth when the situation arises. We all have chances at work, school, etc. We are going to have to take this country back, because we ultimately can decide who will represent us in the political arena.

O’Reilly is choosing to smear a politician (Murtha) that unlike those he wishes to defend in this administration, has honarably served in the military, and is willing to speak out in the best interest of the country. Get involved people its our only hope.

  366. Tank says:

Considering I only mentioned withdrawing troops you could assume not.

My point was that Regardless of how insane Republicans are your only alternative is to elect Democrats. Neither party has a policy of withdrawing troops from the middle east or ceasing support for Israel against Palestine which is why al Qaeda has been attacking the US since 1994.

This other idiot here thinks it is useful to ask Democrats if they would have handled the Iraq invasion the same way. That would be handy to know in the case of Saddam somehow getting back in charge but otherwise not.

Any of you planning on asking your representatives to cease support for Israel and withdraw troops from all middle eastern nations ?

If not quit complaining about Republicans giving you grief because you really don’t want it any other way. There hasn’t been any political scandal under the Bush Administration which compares to 9/11 and there won’t be under the next one. Except for another attack on US soil which kills thousands of civilians.

So maybe at some point in between selecting one of the 4872 Republican scandals to be outraged about today take a moment to check whether anyone else is going to do anything different for you.
After all it really doesn’t matter how corrupt Republicans are if you’re dead.

  367. tURBOeLF says:

Why not pull the troops out? I mean the insurgency is in their “last throes” anyway. Right? Right? Are you listening Dick Cheney? Why do we need any troops against the “last throes” of a dying insurgency?

  368. Brenda says:

Gee I guess O’Reilly’s latest BS really does hurt. By his logic this put us “liberals” in the same category with Bush’s grandfather who made alot of money doing business with Hitler. I’m sure he didn’t think Hitler was such a bad guy. How anybody can take anything that comes out of that idiots mouth serious is beyond me. His lies are so easily proven to be just that, lies, that it seems too easy. I am so sick of these lying slime balls and the total idiots that listen and believe their crap. They make me so mad I can’t even think straight, so I will leave it here.

  369. Taco Goulooze says:

Geez, I guess O’Reilly is the same as those people that, in WWII, rallied behind their leader (or Führer, as it is called in German) and and followed him blindly, believing everything he did and said, defending him all the way. O yeah, and weren’t those people proven wrong? Boy, where they proven wrong…

  370. Eugene Atkin says:

There is a new tendency in the administration lately, to accuse the opposition of being involved in “revisionist history” while they are full time involved in “revising facts”. Bill O’Reilly’s words are just another example of this. They figure, if they repeat this so many times, people will lose track about who lied about the facts and manipulated intelligence around the policy.

In search of the underlying motive in his words, we should read them backwards by switching the subjects and the objects in his sentences, then we will see what the Hitler reference corresponds to and “who don’t get it”.

  371. Robert Stewart says:

Let us not forget that the reason the appeasers made deals with Hitler is because public opinion in Britain was overwhelmingly against a second, catastrophic war with German. Having lost over a million men and women in the Great War, no one was all that eager to see a second generation sacrificed.

It seems to me that the United States government did not do much to stop Germany from invading Czechoslovakia in 1938 or Poland in 1939. It also did little to stop Germay from invading Holland, Belgium, France, Denmark, Luxembourg and Norway in 1940. Only in December, 1941, when Hitler declared war on the United States, did the U.S. government get “on side” with the anti-appeasers.

On the other hand, Canada, which is always the butt of O’Reilly’s criticism, went to war with Germany in 1939.

Maybe Bill is secretly regretful of American neutrality in 1939 and wants to become a Canadian?

  372. RICK says:

Hey wasn’t it Prescot Bush that supported Hitler until the FBI stopped him. Wasn’t it the presidents party that was reluctant to even get involved with what Hitler. Behaps Bill should borrow some of Rush’s medicine. It might settle him down a little.

  373. Myers says:

Tank is right. It tickles the hell out of me to hear Chimpy’s apologists go bonkers over the left- liberal- commie dems when the only thing that is happening is the centrist Republicans of the “realist” foreign policy persuasion, are trying to oust the neocons before too many people get pissed enough to notice; the elite don’t care how many of us die for their world vision. BTW we may reduce our forces but we ain’t leaving either, unless the neocons hold on to power until people here are in revolt.

  374. captain canada says:

The sadest part of Bill O’Reilly is the publicity he gets for knowing so very little. He has made a living by dumbing down issues to their bare bones, thus appealing to those who are the least likely to take an educated look at any issue. As a Canadian, growing up in a society that never polarizes people for what their opinions are, I find Bill O’Reilly and his minions to be at the core of what ails the United States in these difficult times.

  375. Bill Drendel says:

O’Reilly is actually the pin-head (and ultimate chickenhawk) who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. My 87 year old father is totally opposed to Bush and his war. He was in WWII for nearly 4 years and fought against Hitler’s armies in France and Germany!

    Comment by WORFEUS

There’s no such thing as an insurgent in this war. Former Iraqi military were largely made up of Saddam’s Ba’athist Sunni thugs. That’s why we disbanded the military. They will soon be dead along with their families once the American forces pull back to the perimeter and allow the new Iraqi military to take control of the Sunni Triangle. POOF! PRESTO-CHANGO!….no more “insurgents”.

  379. thesaint says:

I love the humour (and truth) of many of these remarks but the grim reality here is that the nutcakes are running the show. Is this American karma playing itself out? Worse, more of the lower 50% are registered to vote and DO vote. Do the bright among us forget when election day is? –we made/let this happen.

  381. John P. Reichstag says:

Hmmm… Based on facts the media continually side-steps, i’ve always been under the impression that Bush supporters were a more accurate parallel of those who are tolerable of Hitler.

Nice spin attempt O’Reilly. I’m sure it worked on the few idiots left who would support Bush even if he sacrificed their children to Moloch, or Eulogia the demented goddess of betrayal revered by Skull & Bonesmen.

  382. John P. Reichstag says:

By the way Four T. Tray, voting is nice when you simply want to ‘feel like a useful and thankful citizen’, but in our day and age of electronic voting manipulations… it really doesn’t make a difference.

  383. Johnny Bravo says:

Weird, anyone else notice Bill’s lack of a Soul?….weird.

  384. Four T. Tray says:

  385. John P. Reichstag says:

Well no offense intended or anything… Just making a point. While I still think we should excercise ‘our right to fill out a ballot’, we should know better than to believe we, at this time, actually have a right to ‘cast an effective vote’ which determines our leader.

  386. John P. Reichstag says:

To help us Americans feel like our vote counts, our propaganda TV networks fire up ‘voting shows’ like ‘American Idol’, where America votes for the next super-star singer.

That takes our attention off the fact that our important vote never counted.

  387. Four T. Tray says:

Do you think index finger inking combined with a reproduction of our slate of choice tatooed in barcode form on our person (I love cop talk) will ferret out fraud. Ahh…scap it–we’re doomed.
We’re just monkeys with car keys.

  388. Dave Standridge says:

What does Billy O’ have in common with a set of car keys a mother jangles in front of a crying baby, 20-inch Sprees on a mini-van, and Paris Hilton? All are merely shiny objects of distraction. Poor man needs our help. I suggest all that have left/will leave a comment on this page use just a tiny more energy to go to Billy’s web site and send him a cheery greeting, something along the lines of “In the spirit of peace and goodwill, I wish you Happy Holidays.”
After all, it’s both the Christian and secular thing to do.
(Then go to the Fox News site and order up yourself a dandy Bill O’Reilly holiday coffee mug! Mmmmmm…I love the smell of fresh brewed vitriol in the morning!)

    Comment by I-RIGHT-I — December 1, 2005 @ 10:36 am

You seem to be implying that you are in the military and that you are writing from Iraq by your deep knowledge of the Iraq war and it’s progress. How’s the weather?

Or are you just one more Chicken Hawk Coward® who supports a misrepresented war with the last drops of blood — of someone else?

Impress someone and put your money where your mouth is, coward. Join the military and fight bush boy’s noble cause or be a Republicoward and continue hiding behind your Dell, dude.

The 4-year 911 bush boy grace period is over. Your time is up… you failed.

    bok bok Chicken Hawk

  391. WORFEUS says:

    ### There’s no such thing as an insurgent in this war. ###

Another wrongisim from I-WASSOOOOGODDAMNEDWRONGWASNT-I. We should add that to your hall of shame, with oldies but goodies like, “war is not a partisan issue”.

So if their are no insurgents in this war, why are we out everyday fighting the “insurgency”? And what are all those little insurgent running around for?

Man try not to speak I-WASSOOOOOGODDAMNEWRONGANDSTILLAMAINT-I. Maybe we can call someone for you.

And that was pretty lame, how you conveniently skipped over all the posts after you clearly pointed out that you don’t even know how long the war has been going on for.

If you are being paid to post in here, someone deserves their money back.

  392. Lars Gruber says:

I’m being paid to post here, but like the Bush deficit, I’m being financed in Chinese Yuan.

Weren’t Hitler’s followers guily of blind devotion to their leader…

  395. Laszlo says:

You take this idiot too seriously.

Think of the guy as an entertaining embarrasement to the right wing lunatics running your country.

But perhaps its not so funny when these idiots are responsible for the deaths of thousands of American soldiers in a lost war all in the pursuit of profits for their masters.

  396. Debra McDaniel says:

Maybe old Bill should remember whose relatives were actually working with Hitler and his people. It wasn’t American heros. No those nuts fell from Bush’s family tree. They must be the ones Bill is talking about saying Hitler wasn’t sucha a bad guy. After all, they made money off him and we all know how much that family loves making money.

  397. Kat says:

I have to admit, I couldn’t finish reading all of the posts here because after a while it just got old. I have so many things I could say right now, but most of it would just be more variation on a theme. What I would really like to do, as a lover of language and words, is criticize all of you, Democrats, Republicans, and everyone else, for your lack of wide vocabulary ranges. And it’s one thing to keep using words like stupid, idiot, moron, dumbass, etc., etc. I must say, though, I did expect that at least some of you would be socially aware enough not to use the word retarded as an insult. I learned not to do that in elementary school, for goodness’ sake, and that was a while ago. You all seem to be well into adulthood and quite capable of monitoring your own language. Some of you, not to name names, seem to enjoy monitoring others’ language as well, with toxins no less. And you claim to be such a good parent. That, among many other things I have read here, utterly disgusts me, but I have better things to do than rant at you, so I’ll stop now.

The Today Show are whores equally as low as O’Reilly though whores of a different variety.

  399. Mato says:

Hm, Mister Goebels, oops O’Reilly, Do you really believe what you are talking about? If you believe in it, you must be very stupid man. :)

  400. Phil says:

Screw O’reilly. Shouldn’t he be somewhere sexually harrassing some young woman anyway??

  401. kei & yuri says:

It is true that there were three major factions in the US arguably supporting Hitler through pacifism:

–sincere pacifists who were horrifed by WWI, all of whom came around when they saw what time it was. Smedley Butler wanted a fundamental rethinking of warfighting and martial policy, and there were blacks (as with South Asians in the old BE) who asked wha we were doing freeing Europe from racism while protecting racism at home. These were not Hitler’s friends.

–Actual Nazi agents planted by the Nazi government.

–Americans sympathetic to Hitler, especially as a hammer of Bolshevism. Henry Ford for example saw no reason to stop supporting Hitler just because the war had started and later succesfully sued the Army Air Corps for damages after they bombed a Ford Panzer works!

But a Hitler comparison begs a Hitler. A centralizing fear-state relying on terror and conservative imitations of values, on some omnipresent enemy, to justify militarism for its own sake and wild capitalist rapine, and viciously attacking dissent. You know, like Cheney and O’Reilly. What sense does it make that Murtha is being paid by, is sympathetic to or doubts the (you must admit) extremely small* threat offered by, the terrorists?

(*be serious for a minute New Yorkers and pseudo-NYers and tell us how many feet of sidewalk Al Qaeda is ready to properly militarily conquer, then compare that to an unopposed Third Reich or Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere.)

  402. WORFEUS says:

Kat, nice Red Herring, but we’ve heard it all before.

  409. John P. Reichstag says:

I think Bill knows what he’s doing. He isn’t uneducated. On the contrary, he has consciously betrayed our nation. He is a scumbag filled with lies, manipulations and avoidance of facts.

At this point, he exists merely to keep the uninformed ignorant, and to help hardened idiots feel justified in their presumptuous views.

    Here’s to hoping we win.

  417. Lisa M says:

Who is Bill O’Reilly? Never heard of him. Thank god.

  418. K Smith says:

Hmmm, let’s see, is Murtha in Iraq NOW? No he isn’t. He has no clue… Murtha is a political hack PERIOD. The Generals on the ground say to stay until the job is finished. That means, enough Iraqi forces trained to fight for themselves. The Liberals voted for this war, have publically supported it, and they’ll live with their deicision, and it will get their asses handed to them in 06, and in 08. They can’t spin those votes, and quotes away, SORRYAH. In closing, I’d just like to say that, I found Hillary’s latest statement saying she was “mislead” too funny. She reminds of a kid that’s got caught smoking in the bathroom, “Hey it’s not my fault, the cigs were his…” Give me a break!! And John Kerry. Geese, he’s sure making a total ass out of himself lately.

  419. St. Louis says:

Bill is entitled to his opinion, and I am entitled to mine.

I think it’s strange that people must assume you HAD to fight in Vietnam or visit our troops in Iraq to have a valid point. Michael Moore never fought for this country, and he has popular opinions, too. When it comes down to it, are the opinions smart? Do they have a base?

    Merry Christmas!

  420. Alex Garcia says:

Hey, leftists…Get a grip! O’Reilly’s entitled to his opinion , just as you are entitled to express your opinions via Che Guevara t-shirts, MoveOn.org petitions, Cindy Sheehan rallies and Michael Moore mockumentaries. In fact, given Bill’s high ratings and book sales, it appears that quite a few want to hear his views.

Why are newspeople interviewing other newspeople? Isn’t this the height of insanity.

And the real smart part is statement about “These are the same people before Hitler invaded in WWII that were saying, “He’s not such a bad guy.””. Is he for real? Why doesn’t call him a child molester while he is at it.

How much of a bonus is O’Reilly getting from Bushco?

  423. It hurts to laugh says:

Remarkably well thought out posts here. O’Reilly is a “eunuch”, “stupid”, “a sex offender”, “maturbates to his grandmother’s voice”… and on and on. What a bunch of high brows we have.

  424. M Taylor says:

The very people who are comparing Murtha to the Hitler Era are the very same people who have constantly tried to suppress freedom of speech, backed cronyism, pushed nationalism, and is suppressing education to name a few. By the way, these are the very same traits that Hitler used in his fascist government. You do the math. These people may want to be careful in backing Bush, they may have to eat crow in the near future…and I’ll be the one in the kitchen cooking.

  425. Daryl says:

    lol…..u guys are losers…the right rules this country….take a back seat….lol

  426. mike says:

Remember that our media is about entertainment and propaganda. They want us to buy cars and support whatever right wing agenda they have in mind. While O’Reilly leads the pack, this infestation and deformation of our broadcast airwaves are pervasive.

In other words The Today Show is part of it. It’s all one big slime festival where reality and truth are not what is important. Otherwise Bush and Cheney would be in jail and we would not be fed crap day in and day out by these media whores.

  427. rick says:

Hitler was largely a creation of the “west”. Fascists like W’s grandaddy, Prescott Bush ( aka “Hitler’s financial angel”) helped bankroll Hitler to power. Anti-semite Henry Ford’s portait hung over Hitler’s desk, and Hitler referred to Ford as his “inspiration”. And Hitler enjoyed support of other deranged fascists like Charles Lindburgh who thought we should have been fighting with Hitler, not against him. Republican Nazi-symp, Joe McCarthy helped expedite the import to the US of many Nazis – mainly scientists and spies – and sided with the nazi-war criminals and helped several get their sentences reduced or commuted. I think O’reilly fits the definition of ‘fascist’ perefectly.

  428. Bill Drendel says:

In response to O’Reilly’s inane statement that the people wanting us to get our of Iraq are the same ones who thought Hitler wasn’t such a bad guy, I noted in comment 379 that my own 87 year old father had served in WWII for nearly 4 years and fought against Hitler in France and Germany, to which I-RIGHT-I answered in comment 381, “So what?” Is this a representative attitude of those supporting the war in Iraq? They love war but apparently have no gratitude or respect for those actually serving in the military, not even those who put their young lives on the line for a long and harrowing 4 years–in a war that really was about freedom and democracy and the defense of our country.

  429. Derek Richards says:

All I have to say is, “CUT HIS MIC!!”

  430. DT says:

One thing can be said about O’Reilly and that is the fact that he is consistent. He is consistent a good little hate monger who enjoys Texas style democracy. You all know the type. Quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand. He is a classical example of ignorance, fear and prejudices all walking hand in hand. We really do live in sad times when someone as shallow and void of substance and integrity like O’Reilly can be given public forums to criticize people of great depth and sacrifice like John Murtha. People like O’Reilly are largely a part of why this country now has such a “mob rules” type of mentality driving its political machine. Someone needs to take O’Reilly off the air because he is extremely biased and radically distorts everything while making sure that he always gets the last word in so that truth has no chance for being heard. George Warmonger Bush and his war profiteering war boss Cheney must really love O’Reilly as his brand of propaganda is some the very best vicious rich right wing spew that money can buy. Idiots like O’Reilly are why the general public has complete misconceptions about the meaning of the word “liberal” or “progressive” as it applies to politics. Its is not difficult to see that the Fox News Network is the equivalent of a state owned media controlled by a fascist regime and O’Reilly is their lying, truth distorting mouthpiece.
