In an interview yesterday with Fox News’s Neil Cavuto, Bill O’Reilly claimed that his reporting intimidated oil company CEOs into lowering gasoline prices:
O’REILLY: I have guys inside the five major oil companies – my father used to work for one of those oil companies by the way – who have told me that in those meetings they look for every way to jack up oil prices after Katrina, every way, when they didn’t have to. They got scared because of my reporting and reporting of some others. They said, “Uh ho.â€
CAVUTO: So wait a minute, you’re not, you’re taking credit for gas prices being down from where they are?
O’REILLY: I said my reporting and some reporting of others. They got scared.
So not only is Bill O’Reilly saving Christmas, he’s making it cheaper for you to get to the mall. Is there anything this guy can’t do?
Full transcript below:
CAVUTO: Ok. Gas prices are down a lot. Why do you think that is?
O’REILLY: Because they’re afraid they were going to go to jail. They were afraid they were going to get the Enron treatment and those CEOs who manipulated them up…
CAVUTO: Why are you sure they have manipulated them?
O’REILLY: Because I have inside guys who tell me that.
CAVUTO: That the CEO’s of these companies, who are part of a cabal…
O’REILLY: I have guys inside the five major oil companies – my father used to work for one of those oil companies by the way – who have told me that in those meetings they look for every way to jack up oil prices after Katrina, every way, when they didn’t have to. They got scared because of my reporting and reporting of some others. They said, “Uh ho.â€
CAVUTO: So wait a minute, you’re not, you’re taking credit for gas prices being down from where they are?
O’REILLY: I said my reporting and some reporting of others. They got scared.
I know, I know..
can O’lielly tell us where the WMD’s are? How about what the goal in Iraq are?
December 1st, 2005 at 9:24 amBwaaahahahaha… this guy should be in an institution… well if Ronnie hadn’t shut them all down.
December 1st, 2005 at 9:29 amSounds very humble. Imagine… a talk show host changing the principles of capitalism! Praises to Bill!
He should throw his hat in the ring for president.
December 1st, 2005 at 9:33 amO’REILLY: Because I have inside guys who tell me that.
He’ll be having conversations with God soon, just like his fearless leader.
December 1st, 2005 at 9:35 amWhat did we do before B. O’R? Can you imagine working for this tool?
December 1st, 2005 at 9:35 amForget about CO2, Bill’s hot air is the single largest contributor to global warming.
December 1st, 2005 at 9:39 amI guess parading the oil CEOs out in front of Congress had nothing to do with the recent drop in prices Eh?
Oh I get it Bill precipitated the parade because of his get to the bottom of the story at all cost methodology, boy I wander what human scourge he will resolve next? Maybe investigating the corruption in this current administration? Or like previously said, finding those elusive WMDs.
December 1st, 2005 at 9:40 amRight Bill. You’re a real hard hitting journalist. Who wants to bet BO has got Oil Stock (other than the broad market indexes that all of us have.) I bet he’s got a few thousand shares of atleast one of the majors.
December 1st, 2005 at 9:48 amThos m0ngrel is desperate .
December 1st, 2005 at 9:50 amWe can make fun of O’Liely, A Coulter and any of the reichtwingnut christian preachers we hear every day. I enjoy a laugh too, but me thinks they all think a little too highly of themselves. I’m not saying we shouldn’t parade around the absurd statements they make, as some have here. But, c’mon now. You could run a whole blog on what these buffoons say every single day. That isn’t why I tune in here.
Can we find someone else to trash for a while?
December 1st, 2005 at 9:52 amGive that man another Peabody Award!
December 1st, 2005 at 10:06 amIs there anything this guy can’t do?
Let’s see, can he stop the genocide in Darfur?
December 1st, 2005 at 10:06 am#10 Kindness, I agree. To much time spent on threads posted about this fool O’lilie. How many times has he been the topic in the past 6 months.?…..More times than the war in Iraq I think and we have lost 2,110 lives and thousands wounded. …Blessings
December 1st, 2005 at 10:09 amI guess Big Oil caved in because they were afraid of being put on Billy’s enemies list.
December 1st, 2005 at 10:14 amNBC, Howard Stern, Fox, and now TP…he is getting too much attention, I also agree with kindness and sharon…maybe set up a sister site to argue with RW media/talking points, but as far as progressive, I understand he needs to debuked and there are a few people out there that do take him seriously, but how many times can you say he is flat out lying until he is just a liar…as long as we keep showering him with attention he will continue to feed his ego and spew out bs and lies
December 1st, 2005 at 10:17 amThanks everyone for the comments. Coverage of O’Reilly on ThinkProgress, from our perspective, is a reflection of his influence not the cause. (Remember, yesterday, he was the expert response the President’s speech in Iraq.)
That said, there has been a lot of O’Reilly coverage recently and we’ll watch out for over-saturation. We’ve got some good non-O’Reilly related content in the works so stay tuned.
December 1st, 2005 at 10:31 amI “HEARD”…sorry for the typo….gotta fire my secretary, but she makes such good coffe.

Can’t wait. How ’bout some nice Hillary “Chicken Hawk” coverage? Show us you’re not afraid of biting the hand that feeds you.
December 1st, 2005 at 10:44 amyeah, he can’t stop being a shit head.
December 1st, 2005 at 10:47 amAfter watching that, all I can say is: If Bill O’Reilly is The Brain, then who’s Pinky?
December 1st, 2005 at 10:48 amhannity attitude/intelligence + coulters looks/arguements = pinky
December 1st, 2005 at 10:49 amO’Reilly® brand vibrators apparently aren’t selling well, and with Billy’s ratings decreasing, he has to get more and moer outrageous to get exposure.
I’d almost bet his antics are tied directly to his ratings numbers…the lower they go, the lower HE’LL go to get them up again. Indifference to him is the best weapon!
I think, as far as the exposure, some things are absurd enough that a mention here or there ultimately will put nails in his coffin. (”Isn’t that the idiot who claimed to lower gas prices?”) Plus, as he get’s more bizarre, he gets LESS credible, thus the ratings creep down…etc.
‘Course, that should’ve worked for Springer too, but he’s on Air America??? Then again, Springer isn’t exactly a “newsman.”
December 1st, 2005 at 10:52 amHA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!
HA HA HAH AHA HAHA A HAAH.,A,,A….
K A B O O M !
My head just exploded. Again.
December 1st, 2005 at 10:58 amIf Bill would send me a check for about a hundred grand, I’d watch his show, grudgingly. Otherwise, he can forget it.
I have purchased less than half of the gasoline I normally use. Millions of others have done the same. That is the reason why gas prices are lower.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:03 amActor Tim Robbins Lashes Out: ‘Hillary Clinton can kiss my butt… That ridiculous, ridiculous statement she’s made on Iraq.’ Comments made Thursday on AIR AMERICA’S ‘Morning Sedition’…
From Drudge
I think Tim needs a show of his own.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:08 amWith Bill O’Reilly “Looking Out For Us”, we don’t have anything to worry about.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:11 amExcept those of us who have young daughters who answer the telephone.
I have purchased less than half of the gasoline I normally use. Millions of others have done the same. That is the reason why gas prices are lower.
Comment by Ron
And I’m burning twice as much in my new 5000 lb. gas guzzling 4X4 that I was able to write off on my taxes. So there. It wasn’t you conserving that did it. It was the death threats I sent in Ryan “FMFB” Neat’s name to the CEO of ExxonMobil, Shell and BP.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:12 amWhat a sorry, sick, lying SOB O’Lielly is. He suffers from the same lying disease that has infected this administration and many of its Congressional cronies. Major doses of full strength bleach will be necessary to stop this disease from spreading to the general population.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:13 amThanks Bill, I was getting worried. Oh, I still have to walk to work, so could you scare them some more? There’s 8 inches of snow on the ground.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:14 amI am honestly so happy that Al Reilly lowered my gas prices for me. I can’t thank him enough.
Maybe I’ll go to the Fox website, and buy a Factor “Happy Holidays” gift, and send it to him as a present.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:20 amO’Reilly has always claimed that he came from a working class family. His statement here says that his father worked for an oil company. What he neglected to mention is that his father was an accountant for an oil company, which, growing up in the 1960’s, would have put him squarely among the middle class, not the working class, the white collar and not the blue collar crowd, which O’Reilly has always claimed allegiance. Another lie to add to O’Reilly’s growing list of deceptions but necessary in order to feed his megalomania.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:20 amIs Bill O’Reilly a god?
Bill O’Reilly is ‘da man — especially if you ask him. Think Progress reports this morning that in an interview yesterday on Fox News’s Neil Cavuto, “Bill OÂ’Reilly claimed that his reporting intimidated oil company CEOs into lowering gasoline pric…
December 1st, 2005 at 11:35 amSomebody get the straightjacket, ol’ Billy boy’s gone looney.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:42 amBill O’Reilly is THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO, here is a tribute picture I made for Bill:

December 1st, 2005 at 11:44 amO’Reilly isn’t the problem. There are ignorant asses everywhere. The problem is those who gave him a stage and those who give him an audience.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:49 amThe man has delusions of grandeur like noone I’ve ever seen. He’s several sandwiches sort of a picnic and it ain’t getting any better. Hide the loofahs!
December 1st, 2005 at 11:51 amHe really is starting to sound and behave like Morton Downey Jr., looks like a big train wreck is just around the corner.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:54 amHas BO been siphoning gas with his mouth again?,and only swallowed a little?
December 1st, 2005 at 11:59 amO’Reilly is the very definition of a megalomaniac.
December 1st, 2005 at 12:09 pmBillO’Loofah must be one surly SOB off-camera. I picture him being unbelievably cruel to his domestic help, waiters and waitresses, his mailman, the tollbooth guys, his staff, his family, and puppies. (maybe not the puppies, he needs all the warm and cuddly he can get).
Seriously, the more batshit crazy BillO gets, the better for all of us. Sane, rational people cannot think his show is anything but farce.
December 1st, 2005 at 12:17 pmI wish my fellow Liberals would stop giving Radical Conservative wingnuts like Bill O’liely so much credibility. We can all start by following four easy steps:
1: Stop giving him, Ann Coulter, and others like them so much damned attention. Just ignore their fruitty queer asses. The reason they spew so much hate, propaganda, and filth is because their mother never breast-fed them enough coming up. They have a little child inside each of them crying out for love and attention to the point were it pushes them into insanity.
2. Stop calling right-wingers Christians. Jesus was totally against what most of them say, feel, think, or do.
3. Convince all of your freinds to censor out the Fox News Channel so as to protect your children from having their little minds warped by these Neo-Nazi’s.
4. Start a petition to have Rupert Murdoch commited to an asylum where he can recieve proper treatment.
December 1st, 2005 at 12:22 pmRyan — Does O’Reilly pay you to plug his show like that?
This guy is “news” in the same was that Oprah is “news.” Even his own network doesn’t take him seriously, as evidenced by their O’Reilly “holiday” gear.
And I feel that much greasier just for knowing that bit of trivia.
December 1st, 2005 at 12:32 pmYour right Ryan Neat. It is sad but true. WE can’t expect the problem to go away on it’s own. I’m sorry. You have to admit though, my post was hilarious.
December 1st, 2005 at 12:37 pmRyan — Maybe it’s because I’m a pro wrestling fan and, as a result, a connoisseur of faked outrage and bluster. The whole point of being a heel is to get people so pissed off at you they’ll pay money to show up and boo.
And it seems like you’re shilling for O’Reilly’s increasingly surreal heel act. You’re reacting exactly how he (or any smart businessman playing that character) wants you to.
He needs enemies to survive. Or, as we say on usenet, PLEASE DON’T FEED THE TROLL.
December 1st, 2005 at 1:06 pmJohn-
As Ryan was explaining to Matthew, we did our best to ignore people like O’Reilly, but he continues to bully and bully and bully like the High School jock who knocks, smacks and beats up the non-jock around. Sooner or later the non-jock will take it no more and will either commit and destructive act of violence or psychologically beat the bully at his game by being as much of a badass as him.
Ryan is not promoting O’Lielly. He advocates, of course, a
boycott of advertisers who sponsors the show. And that is what we should do. Especially after the San Francisco debacle, the people should not only stop watching, they should not buy any more of the products until they pull out.
The more enemies O’Lielly has, the more likely he’ll go down
December 1st, 2005 at 1:18 pmin flames.
Actually, #49 was directed to just john. Not the other John.
December 1st, 2005 at 1:20 pmThat’s because he produces so much of it himself.
December 1st, 2005 at 1:36 pmGas that is.
December 1st, 2005 at 1:36 pmJIMBO — O’Reilly’s beaten you up, physically? Call the cops.
No?
He’s got you in the (figurative) palm of his hand. If you’re seriously calling a voice on the radio or a face on your TV a bully of YOU, then you’re surrendering to him.
Let me try a different tack, here. Bush and his friends are way down in the polls. That implies that there are a lot of ex-followers out there who may be looking for new places to converse, since they’re no longer comfortable with the Bush-supporting blogs.
Such a person comes here and sees we’re not even speaking English. We’re still talking codewords and deliberately refusing to spell people’s names right. Sure, that was probably also the case where they were previously, but that wasn’t as noticeable to them since it grew up gradually around them. Our odd mannerisms are brand new and show up all at once to greet any newcomer.
So why haven’t we gone into a friendlier mode, as any group that intends to expand would do? Because Big Bill O’Reilly has us thinking that he’s bullying us?
By allowing ourselves to be polarized like this, we won’t make any lasting gains.
This is simply a larger version of the trolls who show up to tweak us.
Yes, there are genuinely dangerous media people out there, but 99% of the hate talkers who have existed on radio have come and gone without our notice. O’Reilly doesn’t deserve our notice, even though he’s such a no-brainer for bloggers who need something to quote to rile up THEIR readers.
December 1st, 2005 at 1:51 pmWe all know this guy’s insane like a fox. Wasn’t November sweeps month? Every day he gets his mug around the media, is another day he gets publicity. Conflict breeds viewership. He knows this and promotes it daily. Ignore him and his rants have no context, no viewership. He becomes just another shrill voice in the dark – without the ratings to sustain his kingdom. Isn’t that what we really want?
December 1st, 2005 at 2:40 pmHe’ll go down on history.
(sic)
But I agree, he’s getting way too much attention. Ignore him. That’s his worst nightmare. I stop right here and now.
December 1st, 2005 at 2:42 pmI knew it! Bill O’Reilly is God!
That may seem a bit far fetched, but since my cousin asked the question “Isn’t it great that God lowered the gas prices?” this Thanksgiving… I must assume he was Right.
December 1st, 2005 at 4:34 pmWe consumers of phalus-shaped foodstuffs are mighty ticked. The price drop in gasoline has more than been offset by skyrocketing falafel prices.
December 1st, 2005 at 4:48 pmThank you, Bill!! Now can you do something about those food prices that have been jacked up lately? I am having a hard time feeding my 11 children. And by the way, can you find me some affordable health insurance so I can take care of this pesky cancer thing I have?
December 1st, 2005 at 4:54 pmCould you Imagine a World that HAD people like Oriley, Limbaugh,Coulter, Cheney, Bush, and Neo-Cons as the totalitarian rule??
Shivers me timbers, it does. -Aj
December 1st, 2005 at 4:55 pmBill O’Reilly is nothing but a drunken bum who sexually harasses his assistants. The only people who listen to him are fat angry white guys who listen to Toby Keith and Creed.
December 1st, 2005 at 4:56 pmStill, after putting 2 and 2 together in my head along with remembering my juniour high years as a nerd, I can conclude that Ryan Neat is absolutely correct. In this day and age, you cannot ignore a Bully. Ignoring them only encourages them.
December 1st, 2005 at 4:59 pmTo paraphrase John Stewart, O’Reilly is a dick…
December 1st, 2005 at 5:00 pmBEFORE O’RILLY THERE USED TO BE A GUY BY THE NAME OF IDI(OT) AMIN WHOM TALKED IN THE SIMILAR FASHION!! HE ISM IN A GOOD COMPANY!!!
December 1st, 2005 at 5:02 pmO’REILLY: I said my reporting and some reporting of others. They got scared.
I guess this is the same ‘WE’ that is not gonna help us after San Francisco ‘Blows Up’, and the same ‘WE’ that puts out ‘Lists’, How other ‘WE(s)’ are We GONNA have fun with NOW FILLth O’Lielly Racist Rants!!!
We Cant HEAR YOU FILLth!! –Captain
December 1st, 2005 at 5:03 pmBecause of Bill’s valiant efforts to save Christmas, little baby Jesus is giving him inside information.
December 1st, 2005 at 5:05 pmThe “Enron treatment”? You mean the kind of treatment where you post a $500,000 bond and then run around loose for a over a year?
December 1st, 2005 at 5:06 pmOoooh, goodie! A miracle worker. When will O’Reilly cure cancer, end poverty, and halt future hurricanes in their tracks? I’m on the edge of my seat with anticipation. The man is a demigod, I tell you.
December 1st, 2005 at 5:15 pmHere’s another point of view about the publicity this dipshit gets:Believe or not 90% of the US population doesn’t know who he is. I say get him out there in the public, tie him around George Bush’s neck and let the public see what fools these people really are.
December 1st, 2005 at 5:22 pmThis is why Katrina was such a big deal. For once the 90% that isn’t paying attention saw on TV every night how incompetent this assholes really are. Now let ‘em see who their freinds and advisors are and how crazy they actually are.
This buffoon is the most self-centered idiot I have ever seen or heard. He is pompous and clearly in love with himself. We need to ignore his rantings and concentrate on the human side of the news, which, regrettably, is not available on FOX!
December 1st, 2005 at 5:28 pmSomebody stick a pin in his head and let some of that hot air out. The man is insufferable. The fools who faithfully watch him and Fox are responsible for the over-inflated egos of jerks like BO.
December 1st, 2005 at 5:29 pmRemember the film, Broadcast News? Could have been a model for BO.
I have little regard for O’Reilly but I think he is on to something. I have always felt the oil companies had much more control over prices than they pretend. The could not have had record profits in a time of high crude oil prices unless they were raising their prices to extraordinary levels. Moreover, to the extent that the oil companies control oil deposits of their own, they are not affected by market price of oil coming from independent sources. O’Reilly had little personal role, if any, in the rollback, but the general news media coverage of high oil prices is what enraged consummers.
December 1st, 2005 at 5:36 pmIts clear Bill has had no businees classes maybe someone should teach him supply and demand. 3.00 a gallon and the winter non driving season had nothing to do with supply building up and the oil execs on the hot seat in DC LOL only gas I see from Bill is out his mouth LOL in the reports that come out on your stupidity now and then your show is not funny enough to watch anymore. so I rely on this kind of reports on you. He is no Walter Cronkite for sure LOL
December 1st, 2005 at 5:58 pmDina
Hey Bill:
December 1st, 2005 at 6:13 pmCan you fix it so my guidedog and I don’t have to wait two hours to get a cab?
PS> Send me some of your best Loofah sponges.
Bill who?
December 1st, 2005 at 6:15 pmHis brain is full of crude oil.
December 1st, 2005 at 6:16 pmO’Reilly is a laughing stock. If it weren’t for the right wing propaganda machine this guy would be just some ugly old guy with age spots and bad makeup. He most certainly would not be riding out front on the right wings big horsey yelling weeeeeee weeeeee giddy up.
O’Reilly’s over inflated ego is really something. Wow this stuff really went to his head. He’s either gonna fall hard one day or he’s gonna be one of these guys who lives in the past “GLORY DAYS” like the Barbarian twins.
December 1st, 2005 at 6:20 pm#20 After watching that, all I can say is: If Bill O’Reilly is The Brain, then who’s Pinky?
Comment by BlastFurnace — December 1, 2005 @ 10:48 am
Mill has it that Rott Rover is The Brain, Duhbya is Pinky, and Chainme is the Mad Scientist in the Lab.
December 1st, 2005 at 6:46 pmQuote: “So not only is Bill O’Reilly saving Christmas, he’s making it cheaper for you to get to the mall. Is there anything this guy can’t do?”
Get 4 articles dedicated to him on your front page today to go with the 4 from yesterday. Oh wait… yeah he managed to do that too.
Frankly I’m suprised you haven’t been sued by him yet. Most publications which syndicate him have to pay. Perhaps you can work out a settlement where you sell his T-shirts instead.
December 1st, 2005 at 6:48 pmI am tired of reading about what O’Reilly has said. I fear that he has become a distraction for the left. I wonder if his statements and views are not spread more by being referenced on HuffPost and other related sites than they are by people who refer directly to him
What he says is not news and need not be reported. It has ceased to be interesting.
December 1st, 2005 at 6:49 pmLemme see Patt blowmup Robertson, O’Falafel, Mad MAnn Coltrane, FaLLswel, Whooo Boy. Some Great Comedy

December 1st, 2005 at 6:50 pmT Young is also of course correct, I for one have not forgotten about other Issue T Young, there are more to come you can be sure of that, there are many eyes out there combing many OFFICIAL documents, Speeches et et et.
Again the Senate at this point Knows, on both sides, the people smell Voting POWER, they have POLITICAL CAPITAL right Now. Faux News just shows the HUGE waste of Taxpayer Money Spent on such idiocy. This puts THAT issue in GOVTS Face. Trying to LOOK at issues from every side is tuff, this Does have more than ONE Positive.
*Dont Forget the Government paid programs seen here BY MANY that were to disrupt Message Boards, etc..
These THINGS have not nor will not be forgotten, at least by this poster, and quite a few others Ive noticed here.

You always want to put words in other people’s mouths without understanding what their thinking. When I call O’Reilly a bully, I meant it with a contempt for his hateful tactics of name-calling against women, minorites, unions, middle and working-class, celebrities who are not named Paris Hilton and anyone who despises apathy against
the common man, woman and child.
O’Lielly (yes, I call him that because he spreads misinformation) is a bully because he likes to act like an overgrown kid who steals other people’s lunch money, but when one person kicks his ass to keep his or her lunch money, the overgrown kid cries whines and screams RAPE!
From the Webster New World Dictionary-
BULLY- a person who hurts, frightens or tyrannizes over those who are smaller or weaker. a hired cutthroat or thug.
That’s what O’Lielly is a bully and I say it without fear and if I saw him on the street I’d say it to his face and if he threw a punch, I swear to you it wouldn’t take to long for his ass to land on the ground. I’m younger, agile, Black and always pissed off. That would be enough
to get the job done.
Kindly do not become an apologist for the Felafel King.
December 1st, 2005 at 7:09 pmHe is the McCarthy of our time and must be dealt with quicker.
Well His initials are B.O. for a reason.
December 1st, 2005 at 7:57 pmIsn’t that great? All along I had thought it was the oil companies trying to help Bush’s approval rating. But now it’s official: O’Reilly came through to save the day. Then I woke up. It’s just a very bad nightmare.
We are still paying at least a dollar MORE than what we paid last year. The small drop in gas price is just another manipulative tactic comes from the same people who have reaped billions of profit in the last quarter.
The bigger question is, where’s the alternative energy sources that taxpayers have spent hundreds of billions to develop? I am not sure what the DOE is doing but I am sure some people are getting rich sitting around playing video games on the national lab’s computers.
December 1st, 2005 at 8:14 pmIs there a bigger douche-bag in the media than BO’R? Please stop giving this man(?) attention on this blog. He’s not worth the time or space.

December 1st, 2005 at 8:19 pmHe is not only a common street thug but silly shit as well. Why oh why do we bother to post his crap…care what he says…come on folks…you can’t be serious about this guy?
December 1st, 2005 at 8:24 pmBOR couldn’t please the pessimests!!! He railed against oil companies – how come you “progressive” phonies weren’t PRAISING him to high heaven!???!! Let’s see:
a.) We HATE BOR MORE than oil companies!
b.) Oil companies and their indecent profits give us something to whine about -loudly!
c.) No oil companies – no oil slicks – no cute seals to wail and gnash teeth over!!
d.) Oil companies don’t exploit the rich – unfair!
e.) The DIRTIEST little secret – Progs want even HIGHER gas prices so people commute less. They are mad at BOR for criticizing the evil oil induustry. Progs don’t give a $hit about the “poor and middle class”
Now if that loser, Jim Hightower or Amway’s Al Franken had said EXACTLY the same as BOR, you would think it utterly enlightened! Oh…. they did….but not many people heard them??!!
December 1st, 2005 at 8:35 pmI have a blister on my foot. Can O’Reilly help me with that?
December 1st, 2005 at 10:06 pmMA- No human being in their correct mind, especially Mr. Al Franken would ever do or say what the Billy Goat would say
because they are too smart to let themselves be fooled.
And that is what Billy Goat is a fool.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:09 pmSlip sliding away.
Other day he was using his right wing smear show to attack those he perceived as disrespectul to the “Immaculate Conception”.
He said that, “The Immaculate Conception.” Pregnancy without penetration and without penile transfer of sperm into a vaginal egg. It is 2005, almost 2006 and he is talking seriously, taking seriously, “Immaculate Conception”.
I wish the teen daughters of Dads who believe in “Immaculate Conception” would announce that they are pregnant resulting from “Immaculate Conception”. Wonder what Dad O’Reilly and the other true believers would do.
December 1st, 2005 at 11:47 pmBut can he get you a date with an intern or a producer? That would really be something.
December 2nd, 2005 at 12:15 amNice post. What is amazing is that back in September, O’Reilly said he couldn’t get anyone to talk to him about the price of oil. Now he is coming off as an oil insider.
December 2nd, 2005 at 12:42 amOkay, I was raised Catholic and can never supress the urge to correct the “Immaculate Conception” vs “Virgin Birth” phrases. Those nuns can really do a number on your psyche.
The Immaculate Conception refers to the birth of Mary, mother of Jesus. She was the only person in the world (besides Adam and Eve) who was born without Original Sin thus making her conception “immaculate” or she was conceived with a clean soul. They couldn’t have someone with Original Sin on their soul giving birth to the Messiah (even though he was born with Original Sin on His soul).
The Virgin Birth has to do with Mary getting preggers by the hand of God, without having had sex with anyone, much less Joseph, her intended.
Sorry, I just had to do that. LOL.
December 2nd, 2005 at 1:40 amHmm, do you think the All-Knowing, All-Seeing O’Reilly can tell me where I left my keys?
December 2nd, 2005 at 3:45 amThis is an interesting study of a man having a nervous breakdown. I think that what is really happening is that his entire logical system is collapsing in front of him and he is forced to take on more and more obscure and emotional arguments to keep from reflecting on what an idiot he is, while becoming increasingly grandiose in an effort to stave off awareness of his own insignificance. Soon he will be talking about the Illuminati and Freemasons conspiring against him and talking about how he is close friends with the Pope. I hope he stays on the air longer.
December 2nd, 2005 at 4:52 amWOW It’s all so clear to me now. Bill O’Reilly is the man. He lowered gas prices and saved me so much money I’m going to do something nice for him. I think I’ll send him a pack of batteries for his Pleasure-Vibe 5000. Merry Christmas Bill!
December 2nd, 2005 at 7:18 amHey. I don’t agree with O’Reilly on anything. But he’s intelligent, successful and has a loyal following. That’s what makes him so dangerous. Mocking him doesn’t accomplish much. We better come up with our own O’Reilly.
December 2nd, 2005 at 9:54 amThe guy is obviously an idiot, but you’re just on the flip side of the same coin if you think Congress was responsible. Supply & Demand. I have a dream, that one day I will live in an America where everyone has a basic understanding of economics.
December 2nd, 2005 at 3:08 pm#99 – “We better come up with our own O’Reilly.

*****You’ve tried….and failed. Do the names Paul Begala, Bill Press, and Jesse Jackson mean a thing? Iguess they don’t.
Barbara is right. We’re still paying more for our gas – it just seems lower because it had gone through the roof. Now people are feeling more complacent about it. And, gee, the oil companies look for ways to raise the gas for no reason? What a surprise. Perhaps their profits gave that fact away. Oh – but O’Lielly has people on the inside – uh huh….right. Okay – they broke their NDA’s to talk to O’Lielly. I think we should find out who these whistleblowers are so we can prosecute the oil companies. Let’s go after them, Billy boy…..He can join with Congress and get all the attention he wants.
The reason people knew about it was not because of media coverage – it was because they went to the gas pump. It affected everyone and people were not happy about it. And now they have stopped caring because it isn’t quite as painful….but – it is still over-priced. We are still being ripped off and America’s car manufacturers are having to cut back on workers because the oil companies don’t want us to have fuel efficient cars. Americans have to wait for the technology to come from Japan and pay for the patents when there is no way we couldn’t have come up with this solution years ago.
December 2nd, 2005 at 5:28 pmOh Billie-boy is this another fact he can’t back up or a part of his transcript he’ll have removed . I think the neos have a new oxycotin hookup
December 2nd, 2005 at 6:08 pm#97 – Steve Expat – Thank you for clearing the way for other “progressives” in NZ – (such a trail blazer!). Here’s hoping there’s room for more to join you!!
December 2nd, 2005 at 6:50 pm#102 – Whaaaaa…..Jill, please don’t tell me you’re an economics professor – or student. The biggest chunk of change from every gallon you pump goes to the federal and state government.(Now you might be shrieking about “windfall profits” – once again you’d be forced to notice the small percentage of profit versus sales – a minor thing call percentages, tsk, tsk.) Now if you were REALLY a progressive and not just the whiner you demonstrate, you SHOULD want HIGHER gas prices. That way, you’d force people to buy the tin-can tiny cars or abandon their cars altogether.
Hey people!! Eyes back on the ball here. Screw o’reilly and his ilk. Econ 101 says buy low, sell high. As long as members of a wholesaler/retailer chain derive their profit from marking up their costs by a fixed percentage, profits will climb as costs go up when you have a captive market. If you sell gas, then you win without having to change your profit structure to reap higher DOLLAR profits, even though your percentage stays the same. If you sell Birkenstock’s, you’re probably not going to see the same “windfall”.
December 3rd, 2005 at 2:36 pmAre we being screwed? Absolutely, but o’reilly isn’t the cause. Our demand for gas is and “they” don’t mind a bit.
#105 – “One of the most expensive states (california) tax wise only has 21% of the price of gas as state/local/federal taxes.” – Math Challenged Ryan
December 5th, 2005 at 4:02 pmSince the oil companies made 9.1% profit the feds and states ONLY grafted twice as much. Do you balance your own checkbook – or does your valet do that for you??
You left out the part where Bill discredits the basic economic theory of supply and demand:
O’REILLY: My reporting and reporting of others.
—————————————————-
CAVUTO: Has nothing to do with refineries that came back online or the crisis calmed after the hurricanes?
O’REILLY: The demand for oil in this country is the same now as it was one day after Hurricane Katrina. It’s the same. Selling the same amount of gas and oil.
CAVUTO: But the supply has increased, right?
O’REILLY: The supply has increased? Who knows.
CAVUTO: And it’s traded like a stock, correct?
O’REILLY: It’s traded by speculation, and the bottom line is they were afraid of a federal investigation and they said–
CAVUTO: I think you’re crazy, but you’re right on the Christmas, but wrong on this.

December 4, 2005
The theme of George F. Will’s “The populist fever that follow oil price spikes†is spiking the gas tank so that black is white and white is black. Meaning: oil and white lies. Will’s contention is that Congress is whipping up public dissent unfairly against our friends at the oil industry. To Will the oil industry had done everything it could to keep the price of gasoline down and if the price did rose well it’s for our own good. Now a reality check: the industry had done it best to artificially lower the amount of crude produced by domestic refineries. In a 2002 Rand Report, the oil industry complained of excess capacity thus began the shut down of domestic refineries across the nation to artificially raise gasoline prices, creating windfall profits. Another stunt for profit increase: limited oil and gasoline supply in this country and ship that “excess†supply aboard, thus justifying more price hike at your local gas station—and keep telling Congress that there’s still a SHORTAGE in this country. Wonder why Will’s article felt warm and snuggly? In the oil industry’s pocket how can it not be otherwise?
December 7th, 2005 at 4:33 pmWell here we go again, the price of gasoline here in Houston is creeping up again, it was $1.99 this time last week, today it is $2.21, what in the heck is going on? These people that regulate prices won’t let me price gouge in my business, I have to be competitive, I am in Sales, my business depends on my getting out and calling on my clients, I have had to cut back on my territory because of the gasoline prices, these regulators/station owners are like a bunch of spoiled children, they do something wrong you smack their hands and soom as the publicity dies down they are back at their old tricks! God help us!! What is the price going to be tomorrow? It is the same old gas they have had in their storage tanks for weeks, I cannot get away with raising my prices, I wouldn’t have any business, the competition is to great!

January 1st, 2006 at 11:33 pmThe media helped it go down just like it helped it go up. The way I saw it back in August no one had an answer for the average American for the way the oil company’s we’re
January 11th, 2006 at 3:29 pmtoying with there consumer’s. No one beleived there was a shortage. The oil company’s know we need the product and they do not get personal when it come’s to making outlandish profit. It has been nothing but a game. I my-self think the Government, auto industry and the oil company’s conspired to create a situation where it would appear that there may be a shortage. How’s this? The auto industry come’s up with muscle car manufacturing again like in the late sixties. People eat it up and no one ever raised the question of more gas gussling but the U.S.Government? Gas Gussler Tax! What the …..! You can’t enjoy your self in this country with out the Government coming up with some horse doo doo to tax your already over taxed rear end. I think every one should write off the tax they pay for gas. Just keep your record’s of purchase and at the end of the year turn it in itemized out as an expence. At least 50% tax credit. Something is definitely wrong in this country when your president stands there and reply’s that the Market’s don’t work that way. Screw the rest of the world keep our oil here and let them keep there’s, then we’ll all see what’s going on. Less manuevering and less complication. Also iof we haven’t sucked the oil out of this world yet, I don,t think it is ever going to go dry. Some body know’s something. And it will come out. I smell it.
The Federal Government could be forced into taking a stand to combat higher gas prices by basically holding the economy hostage. By this I mean–I have heard it mentioned that people should just not buy gas for one day–this would not work—-people have to get backand forth to work, etc and the effects would not even be noticed anyway. However, if you can’t get the culprit (Oil Industry)–then get their 1st cousin, the US auto industry. If NO ONE in the entire US were to purchase a vehicle for the next six months to a year-in protest over gas prices and the fact that nothing was being done–what effects would that have on the economy in general? I beleive it would have devastating effects–so much so that the government would be obilgated to step in and take unprecidented action(s) in an effort to avoid a total colapse of the economy. I believe that action would be taken in weeks as opposed to months.
April 21st, 2006 at 2:47 pm[...] Update 11:42am: ThinkProgress has the QuickTime video of Bill O’Reilly claiming that “his reporting” and “the reporting of others” lowered gas prices because “they got scared.” Cavuto later calls him insane or something to that effect. [...]
