Bush Knew 10 Marines Had Died Prior To Rose Garden Remarks, Didn’t Mention It

Yesterday, 10 Marines were killed in Fallujah by a roadside bomb. President Bush knew about it before he made remarks at 10:45AM in the Rose Garden. From today’s White House press conference:

QUESTION: Can I ask, when the president came to the Rose Garden this morning about 10:45, at that hour, did the White House already know about this attack on the Marines in Fallujah?

MCCLELLAN: Yes, we did. The president was informed about the loss of the Marines last night and those that were injured, and then he was briefed again this morning.

But Bush didn’t mention it. He didn’t want to take the focus off today’s message, the “good news” about the economy.

    Documentary charges electronic voting flawed

    By SZABOLCS KORDOS
    Sun Staff Reporter
    12/02/2005

Only a handful of people showed up at the Cline Library on Wednesday for the first Flagstaff screening of the new documentary “Votergate,” yet the movie’s topic could affect everybody in this country.
The creators of the movie claim that the new touchscreen voting systems are vulnerable to hackers and fraud and that citizens have no way to verify if their vote was really counted.

The young team behind the movie ended up with a shocking result at the end of its nationwide investigation: Anybody is able to change the results of the elections.

According to the movie, the central tabulator of the Diebold voting system, called GEMS, is based on Windows Access, jut like any household laptop or PC.

And just like in the home, it does break down quite often.

The filmmakers contended you don’t need to be a high-skilled computer expert to enter the program and change the results in a matter of seconds without leaving any trace behind. But the worst thing about the system is that there is no proof that every single vote has been counted, and counted correctly. Unlike in the case of the traditional ballots, recounting does not lead anywhere since there is no permanent record on the votes.

At the Wednesday event sponsored by Democracy for America-Flagstaff, Dr. Tom Ryan, founder of Arizona Citizens for Fair Elections, emphasized the importance of keeping the Diebold Tsx voting machine out of Arizona.

Patty Hansen, the elections director for the county, told the Arizona Daily Sun that optical scanners are used in Coconino County, but it is up to the office of the Secretary of State to give the final word on any change.

Johnson WAS protested and degraded to a poor leader in his time…He was NOT beyond reproach and MANY of the protests happened in D.C., because THAT’s where he was! Not like Dubbya who is vacationing in Crawferd ALL the time and using LOCAL police to remove the people from his view as he drives by! Hey, he’s a UNITER…

Putting the MOTHER of a soldier who dies under HIS command in jail for asking to speak to HER president…He’s a UNITER!

Refusing to meet with the mothers of the soldiers to OUTLINE his STRATEGY for victory, instead OFFERING a watered-down version of the ARMED FORCES battlefield guide!…He’s a UNITER!

Refusing to allow the VFW to testify before Congress and ON THE VERY DAY (without them knowing) you give a SPEECH before thier members…He’s a UNITER!

As it was stated earlier, NEITHER THE PRESIDENT OR HIS STAFF HAS ATTENDED THE FUNERAL OF A SLAIN SOLDIER…TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, RUINSFELD HAD AN AUTO-WRITER SIGN THE LETTERS TO THE FAMILY FOR THEIR LOSS, until he was caught doing so!

So “if” that doesn’t tell you about the man, then NOTHING will…

Didn’t Dickless attend the Veteran’s Day ceremony this year? Now that’s a sight…At least Clinton (even with his Deferrments) attended the ceremony (EVERY YEAR) and showed some honor for those who served. Where was Bush?

“And yet, Bush still gave it the old college try and stood like a cowboy in front of Veterans on Veterans Day and punched back at those critical of his strategy in Iraq. Traditionally, the President would attend a wreath-laying ceremony on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, but Bush instead used a photo opportunity in front of Veterans to really get tough on the softies out there who would like to see some sort of strategy for success.”

What a difference a country can make. When Canadian soldiers were killed in Afganistan, their arrival back to their homeland was carried live on the CBC news. The Prime Minister and all the top government officials, including the Defense Minister were there along with family and friends of the soldiers. They stood together on the tarmack to watch the plane land and the somber march by coffin-bearing honour guard troops. The Prime Minister and other officials spoke and honoured the dead. You could almost feel the lumps in their throats. I sure felt one in mine. The U.S. government needs to honour each and every returning dead soldier and Bush and Co. should have to attend each returning flight and have it broadcast to the American public. 9/11, Iraq & PNAC – The Connection is Clear & Undeniable
THE COMMON SENSE CONNECTION: THESE MEN LIED IN ORDER TO START A WAR AND IN THE PROCESS THEY SACRIFICED THE LIVES OF OVER 2000 AMERICN SOLDIERS. WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT THEY DID NOT SACRIFICE 3000 TOTAL STRANGERS ON 9/11/2001 FOR THE SAME PURPOSE?

With all the recent questions being asked about the lies that led us to war one question is still being ignored: what does 9/11 have to do with the US invasion of Iraq. The answer is not what you have been told; the illogical claim that 9/11 changed everything and it caused the US to change the way they dealt with potential threats. The real connection here is that 9/11 gave the men who wanted to invade Iraq so badly that they lied to the world in order to do it, the political and popular support to go ahead with their radical agenda.

The one question that becomes more relevant, less controversial and more important as the lies that led us to war are brought to light is this: who benefited from the events of 9/11 and how did they benefit?

Just as the members of the Project for a New American Century stated in their manifesto they needed a new Pearl Harbor in order to get the popular support for their radical agenda and they got that new Pearl Harbor on 9/11/2001. Imagine that; the very men who were in positions to prevent, permit or conduct the attacks of 9/11/2001 were the very people who had their wish granted at the moment the first plane hit the WTC.

Another obvious benefit of 9/11 is the open ended financial jackpot delivered to the military industrial complex and to the energy industry; both of which are interwoven with the members of the Bush/PNAC administration. These people have received untold and virtually unlimited financial profits as a result of the events of 9/11. The independent researchers have uncovered mountains of evidence indicating inside (American) complicity in the events of 9/11 yet many people refuse to believe them based on one premise; they refuse to believe that Americans would hurt other Americans. If this were true we would not need prisons. We would not have a Mafia. Greed alone has been the driving force that has caused man to kill man on a massive scale. Greed has been the driving force behind the murders of spouses, children, parents and total strangers. What makes you think that greed alone is not a good enough reason for war profiteers, who as a livelihood deal in death, to sacrifice a few thousand strangers so that they can reap unlimited fortune? That alone could alone serve as motive for taking part in the horrific events of 9/11/2001.

Nothing corrupts the human sole more than greed, but greed was not the only potential motivating factor for conducting such an event. The Project for a New American Century’s entire reason for being hinged on such an event. A huge part of that agenda was the invasion of Iraq.
The invasion of Iraq was made possible only by the events of 9/11. To date we have not even heard a theory put forth on how Muslim extremists have, or would have benefited from those events. They had nothing to gain and from what we have witnessed as the world turned against the Muslim people, they had everything to lose. We have seen a great deal of “EVIDENCE” indicating, at the very least that many actions were taken by operatives within the Bush/PNAC administration to paralyze procedures that were in place to prevent and/or address an attack of that nature. Even more “EVIDENCE” has been uncovered that indicates a far greater level of involvement by insiders.

What we have here is a group of men (PNAC) who had a plan. The plan included invading Iraq. They openly admitted that this would not be possible without an event like 9/11. (They used the term “new Pearl Harbor” but you can obviously see the connection.) They were in key positions to ensure that events of 9/11 take place, either by conducting them or by permitting them to play out. Now they are being exposed for the lies they told about Iraq that permitted them to invade a nation and kill 10s if not 100s of thousands of people including 2000 Americans.

I ask all people to examine the motive/benefit/evidence links between the events of 9/11 and the members of the Bush administration who were involved with the Project for a New American Century. These links become more defined and understandable as each lie related to the invasion of Iraq is exposed. Think about it

    Mr. Kevin P. Reilly, Jr.
    Chairman & CEO
    Lamar Advertising Co.
    5551 Corporate Blvd.
    Baton Rouge, LA 70808

    Dear Mr. Reilly:

We are writing on behalf of the Democratic National Committee to demand that Lamar honor a contract its Huntington, West Virginia office entered with the DNC for placement of two billboard advertisements in Portsmouth, Ohio. These advertisements accurately referred to a statement made by U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives attacking a respected Member of Congress and decorated war veteran. The advertisements were aimed at informing her constituents about this statement, and called on Rep. Schmidt to cease such attacks.

The DNC was told by your Huntington regional manager that Lamar is refusing to honor the contract because the advertisements are “too negative.” In addition to refusing to honor the contract for the Portsmouth billboards, Lamar, through its Cincinnati office, refused to accept the same advertisement for placement on billboards in Cincinnati.

While Lamar’s form contract reserves to the company the right to refuse to run a billboard advertisement, Lamar’s conduct in this instance raises serious questions about whether the company is unlawfully or improperly using corporate resources to favor or benefit the Republican Party or Rep. Schmidt. Your regional manager was unable to cite any company policy providing any objective standards or criteria for rejecting political or advocacy advertising.

Rep. Schmidt’s constituents are entitled to know what she is saying on the floor of the U.S. House and the DNC has a right to tell them. Lamar should either offer a credible reason for its efforts to censor the Democratic Party or else should live up to its contractual obligation and let the DNC put up its billboard and let the people of Rep. Schmidt’s district hear the truth.

Please let us know immediately whether Lamar intends to honor its contract–and if not, why. Fairness and the public interest demand no less.

    Sincerely,

Joseph Sandler, General Counsel, Democratic National Committee

To the guys that are blogging here that have been in Iraq I have a few comments and questions for you.

The fact that you had the courage to volunteer to serve the country in a military capacity (though you may have gotten more than you bargained for) deserves tremendous respect and you have it here. What makes me even more proud to be an American is that it requires greater courage to stand up in the face of what may be VERY unpopular in your circles to voice your opinions about this war. To do what you believe is right, stand up for the truth. NOTHING is more patriotic than that.

I’d love to know what the feeling is among the enlisted men in general about the war. How many know that it’s based on a lie? How many are willing to face the horrible reality that the president and his henchmen waged an illegal and immoral war for power and profit?

I’ve been noticing a lot of servicemen on the blogs lately and I’m wondering if their back here in the States or if they’re online from Iraq, Kuwait, Germany of somewhere else overseas?

Is it possible to access the web on the military’s time (and dime?) without having your every move watched?

Why are so many guys home now? We keep hearing about 2nd and 3rd tours of duty, recruiting shortages and obviously the killed and wounded….if your tour of duty ends is it likely you’ll have to go back?

Please come back here often and let us know what your thinking and I pray that none of you have to return to Bush’s disastrous war of choice and greed. You guys are the best!

The only thing that makes me skeptical about 9/11 is – the way those towers came down. They didn’t fall apart or blow outward. They just collapsed right in on themselves just as neatly as can be.

It’s the same way buildings fall down during controlled demolitions. Part of me thinks – those planes might have smashed into the towers and caused a lot of damage and many deaths. But somehow I can’t see that alone being enough to bring down two towers that huge. I think those towers received some help from inside.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – The operational commander of al-Qaida and a top-five official in the terrorist organization was killed early Thursday by a CIA missile attack on a safehouse in Pakistan, officials have told NBC News.

  178. freedom is not free! says:

Local residents said that the men were killed by an unknown number of missiles fired by an unmanned Predator aircraft. The witnesses said that missile remnants bearing U.S. markings remain in the area.

Officially, neither the U.S. government nor the Pakistani government would confirm a successful attack. U.S. officials confirm a missile attack took place, but would not confirm that Rabia was killed. A high-ranking Pakistani official confirmed that Hamza Rabia had been killed in a Predator attack.

CIA boss: ‘We know more’ on bin Laden, others
But Goss admits agency is struggling to infiltrate foreign terror sanctuaries
    MSNBC TV VIDEO

    Updated: 8:40 p.m. ET Nov. 29, 2005
WASHINGTON – CIA Director Porter Goss, saying his agency struggles to penetrate terrorist sanctuaries overseas, insists that “we know more than we’re able to say publicly” about Osama bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Boy, this stupig idiot Goss just told OBL where they are looking for him. STUPID!

Goss said one of the hardest parts of the CIA’s mission is to “penetrate into some of the sanctuary areas” — whether harsh terrain or “at the heart of a city, in a ghetto or slum area where people don’t regularly go.”

“Knowing how to find those places and getting to penetrate them is going to be the hardest part of this business,” he said.

  212. WORFEUS says:

Jay, in post 174 you said:

“Do you recall months ago when those two giants performed joint military excercises?”

Yes I do, and actually, I have posted several posts in earlier blogs with my feelings on this.

In fact, this is something the prophet worfeus, has been predicting for around 4 years.

Seriously though, I have been quite concerned about this for some time. The Chinese Army is quite large, and is in the middle of a massive “build up” (words you hear normally right before someone invades something). In fact, the CIA recently released a document dealing with the unprecedented build up of the PLA and the Chinese Navy.

And of course theres those pesky “first ever” joint training exercises that took place off of Russia’s Pacific coast near Vladivostok and moved to China’s Shandong peninsula. The excercises included live-fire drills a joint offshore blockade and amphibious landings.

Now the interesting thing about these excercises, other than the fact they were the “first ever” of their kind, was what the Chinese and Russian officials said about the nature of the exercises.

They said they were based on a scenario of a joint mission to ’stabilize a fictional country’.

Hmmm, now where is there a country that currently needs stabilizing?

Now I am no expert, and I am fully aware of the argument for the goal being dealing with the political turmoil in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and keeping us in check in the region. But suppose if there is another place the amphibious landings are geared for. Someplace like the Persian Gulf for instance?

Now before anyone goes off on a rant, think about it. With the difficulties facing the 150,000 US military personnel in Iraq just dealing with the Insurgency, not to mention peacekeeping and police efforts, training, engineering, etc, what do you think would happen if they had to deal with 500,000 crack troops with air and amour support all courtesy of the new China-Russo alliance?

Think I am crazy? (Ok, I am but so what?)

According to Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan the exercises were designed improve their capabilities to meet new challenges and threats and to fight international terrorism, extremism and separatism.

Now its the last one that’s the “bitch of the bunch”.

    Separatism = Taiwan

The Chinese government said in an annual defense policy report in December 2004 that relations with Taiwan were “grim” and vowed that it would accelerate military modernization to facilitate a new proposed law about reunification, which would include China’s demands that Taiwan accept itself as part of China.

Meanwhile the Bush administration has been sending mixed signals, officially endorsing a one China policy, yet still selling missiles to Taiwan. Meanwhile China is talking tough more and more. Last year, prior to the planning of the Joint operations with Russia, the Chinese government in a strongly worded statement to the White House, called the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act infringement on its sovereignty, which sounds to me like fightin words.

Suppose, just suppose, China has decided with Russia, that the US is a rogue nation, and unlawfully occupying a foreign nation, against the will of the UN? And suppose China is serious about its new China one policy and re-unification with Taiwan?

Now if you were the Chinese Defense Minister, where would you rather fight the enemy? Right off your own shores in Taiwan? Or would you rather “fight the enemy over there, so you don’t have to fight them over here”?

With the bulk of the US military’s battle trained troops currently stationed in Iraq, what better time to take out their new Chinese-Russo super alliance for a test drive, than to launch an all out attack on Iraq, with the purpose of course to “repel the occupiers” and liberate Iraq from the invading army.

We know that in the training exercises recently they dropped propaganda leaflets on the enemy. What did they say? “People of Iraq, join us in repelling the invaders”?

Currently there are 215,000 trained and semi-trained (whatever that means) and equiped Iraqi army troops. What if they turned all that training, not to mention an unusually strategic starting position to the enemy, on our troops there, while they were being invaded from the sea and air by the Chinese-Russo Coalition?

Perhaps like Desert Storm, their goal is only to drive us out of the country. Once we are gone, it’s over. What would happen? Where would it all end up? Could it ever happen?

I don’t know, but given the fact we have basically told the world to go f#(#&k themselves if they don’t like our policies, and we are acting as a rogue nation as far as the UN is concerned, and we are as far as the UN and the International community is concerned, illegally occupying a foreign country.

And besides, we already introduced the concept of launching preemptive war.

    Can it happen?

    The prophet worfeus says maybe.

  213. WORFEUS says:

    If we don’t wise up…

  214. Regan Darcy says:

I am so sad for those Marines and for their families. But you know what makes me sadder? The fact that America voted Bush in for a 2nd term. Are we that FEARFUL? Duck tape anyone? WMDs anyone? You are either WITH us or AGAINST us anyone??? I guess so, because it worked in the second election and by God it worked when the Bush administration used FEAR to bring us to invade Iraq. I remember it happening in slow motion over 2 years ago. It seemed so obvious…and yet we LET it happen. I am SO mad for the Democrates wishy washiness over their fear of not wanting to look un-electable. Gore did it with his “I AGREE” pandering during the debates. After Gore lost he got his fire back…but where was that guy in 2000? Kerry did it too. What happened to the Kerry who stood in front of the Senate and argued agaisnt the Vietnam war? Like Gore, he listened to his advisors too much and tried to appeal to EVERYONE. And then the Democrates just stood by when one of their own Howard Dean was crucified for showing some passion. Its the same reason why Dems avoid the “Liberal” label like the plague. They are afraid. But by NOT defining themselves…they forever LET the Republicans define them. Until they stand up for they believe with passion…and without apology…I am afraid they will never win.

    worfeus,

To follow up on your last post, there was one bit that I hadn’t heard and that was about the “leaflets”. Are you saying that in the Sino-Russian joint operations that they were dropping propaganda that specifically mentioned ridding Iraq of its invaders? I am in total agreement with you regarding where this all leads, its’ not a pretty picture and history happens quickly, but I hadn’t heard that detail about the leaflets and I’d love to see a link to a news source that backs it up. It’s a bit tough for me to swallow that one…but who knows. What is certain is the intention of those former and future world superpowers…a warning shot. Hope its not too late.

  217. Smilin Jack says:

Hey, I don’t have to think of a way out of Iraq. Murtha gave his options and was immediately vilified for it.He does actually have a plan to leave the place in a somewhat stable condition. It was he who announced “Mission Accomplished”. Let him be pulled down with Iraq.

People who were electronically voting for Kerry were getting their votes processed as a vote here and there for Bush.
He didn’t win this fair and square just like the 2000 primaries.

  220. helloimhere says:

143…Hey Troll, you aren’t the only one who has served. There are at least 3 Iraq vets here, myself included. Read the whole tread, man.
    159. Jay, I wouldn’t necessarily say that troops who don’t agree with Bush on Iraq are unpopular; actually, I think there are ALOT who disagree with him. When I was in Iraq, there were not a whole lot of soldiers trumpeting Bush’s praise. There were a few, especially people with 15, 20 years in the service, who specifically SAID that they didn’t agree with Bush on Iraq. I’m talking about platoon sergeants here, some who served during Gulf War I. But honestly, most of the time, soldiers are too busy working to worry about what opinion is at home. I mean, I was deployed during the 2004 election, and the majority of us just didn’t care because a) we really didn’t have that much opportunity to watch tv or read Stars and Stripes, b)we were too tired from the days’ work to care, c)we were too busy making sure that all of our buddies came back to post in one piece, d) when we did have time off, we just wanted to relax and think of not-so-serious things, and e)we knew that no matter who won the election, we were still gonna be in Iraq the very next day after.
Now I’m not saying every soldier feels like this, this is just what I experienced.
Part of the reason why I left the military is because I knew I was being used for evil, not good, and it doesn’t sit well with me.
What were your experiences, Jay, Troll?

  223. Diana Manwaring says:

I can’t believe that President Bush could be so cold-hearted as to not give condolences to the families and colleagues of the soldiers that died. Is the President so wrapped up in his agenda that he can’t think of anyone but himself?

Has anyone noticed that the President’s recent speeches re. the war in Iraq were held in military settings? Could this be so that George W. wouldn’t be subject to protests? Did our illustrious President finally come to the realization that the American people are sick and tired of the war (which, by the way, was supposed to have been over with awhile back)?

Why are the President’s approval ratings at an all-time low? Here are a few ideas:

    1. The President lied about the reasons for going to war in Iraq.
    2. When the lies about the war were exposed, so was the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame (can you say ‘retaliation’?).
    3. Gas and oil prices are still high, thanks to the President’s buddies in the oil industry. Who says that political cronysm doesn’t pay?

I could go on and on, but I think I made my point. The President entered the White House under questionable circumstances. Not long after the President was appointed to office, 9/11 happened. Relatives of Bin Laden were given a free ticket, so to speak, out of this country when they should have been detained for questioning. It is my belief that the violence in Iraq has escalated because of not only the continuing military occupation of that country, but also because Bin Laden and other members of Al Quaida haven’t been caught. The Bush Administration is doing little about this.

If Saddam was caught in a relatively short period of time, don’t you think that Bin Laden could be too? What’s up with that?

One of the members of my family lost three friends in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Three of my cousins served in Iraq, and at one point, all three of them were there at the same time. One of them served in Iraq twice. Two of them are now home, safe and sound. The other one is still there.

Mr. President, when will you wake up and smell the coffee? We The People don’t want you in office any longer!! We need our troops to come home before more of them die. Your domestic and foreign policies have had an adverse impact on our nation. I am tired of high gas prices and having to choose between food, medicine and fuel for my car. I’m tired of being labeled as someone from the “far left” because I dare to speak out against the war. I’m tired of seeing your cronies in the Republican Party criticize patriots such as Rep. Murtha and Michael Moore, who are only trying to speak the truth!

Do us all a favor – be a man and admit that you made mistakes and lied. Resign from office or be impeached!

  225. Keith H. says:

  226. Jay says:

    helloimhere,

I have no military experience. When I was leaving high school and preparing to get out start my life as an adult I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to go to college but I considered the military an option. Today, as I watch what’s unfolded since the Bush administration was appointed to power, there is no way I would encourage my sons (thankfully only 2 and 4 yrs. old) to go anywhere near the military. Of course I know that from a broader perspective Gulf War I and the current war on Iraq are only the first chapters in a broader, longer term conflict. The Oil Wars.

American trouble with terrorism has grown in direct proportion to our dependence on foreign oil and as we know, the Middle East sits on the vast majority of that most efficient and precious resource. I wasn’t opposed to the first Gulf War at the time because I understood the importance of oil to the world economy and an unprovoked invasion of Kuwait by Saddam was unacceptable, however that conflict should have catalyzed the leadership in this country to start to develop and implement policies that wean us away from our fossil fuel addiciton. To the neocon types and the oil tycoons and their stooges in power, the unwillingness to acknowledge our problem is something of a self-fulfilling prophecy. As long as they continue with their “grab the oil” policy the Arab world will resist (rightfully) and the cycle will continue. This provides the neocons justification for the proliferation of the military/industrial complex, so they make trillions of dollars by siphoning our treasure (tax dollars) into the tools of war, rebuilding (new markets) and other profiteering ventures while Exxon/Mobil, Chevron/Texaco, ConocoPhillips make record (and I mean unprecedented in U.S. history) profits while receiving huge tax relief. It’s madness and I see it as a final geopolitical scrum to snatch up what’s left of the profit to made from a rapidly dwindling natural resource.

The best thing that this country could do is wake up to our plight and rise up to force a change in how we “energize” our economy. It’ll take years of planning and change, but it’s the only way we survive. I hope it’s not too late, because I want my kids to live to be my age…and much, much older.

With all due respect, the Bush regime took power by coup. They have clearly stolen the last two elections. The U.S. is no longer a democracy so being pissed at the American people is a bit misguided. The fooled minority that supported and still supports the GOP are either deeply stupid, greedy, or flat our evil.

Another stolen election and I start seriously making plans to relocate and I’m a patriotic person. I love what this country was and what it may be again, but not what it has become.

Also, we need the rest of the world’s help if we are to end this nightmare, not their scorn. Instead of pointing fingers and fixing blame, use your passion and your voice to help us regain our democracy.

As a person of Scttish decent. I find it very odd that a Scottish person would say something like this. As a Scottish person, you must understand struggle. The liberals of America are right now struggling to loosen if not remove totally the strangle hold that the Bush administration has on this country.

Bush failed at every business venture he tried. He couldn’t find oil in Texas.

He is doing the same thing to America.

For years I have had the notion there must be some good americans in the world in fact I have met a few on my travels in India and other far places they seemed very enlghtened, I have met also a few at raves here in Scotland,London etc
Now my views are Changing for the worst.. I dont want anything to do with any of them ,, Im Starting to tar them all with the same brush.. Its unfortunate as I only Know there struggles with their leaders as we have a mass murderer Blair running the Uk too.. But what i find hard to understand why all the patriotic bullshit you all come up with.even if you hate bush. first of all im a human being that lives on this planet then im scottish ..by having pride in your country when your ashamed of it only tells me you think your better than the rest of us. 85 percent of americans do not have passports therefore i can only imagine you dont know whats its like to have an outside infuence beleive me its good, stops us all being sheepish which is what im seeing from america . You know they do the same thing here in this country as we have little outside influence here as we are an island too therefore easy to brainwash the uk..but you being a continent away on the other side of the world mean you are being fed real patriotic bullshit and falling for it big time..hence the situation you have got. so 15 percent of americans have passports and there probably infantry soldiers …..which really says get some outside infuences you are all becoming sheep ,you should all be given a vacation to visit the dalai lama in INDIA as compulsary

  251. bill says:

I hate to say this but if you go into Iran you gonna get your buts kicked they have 70 million people mostly under 35 years of age, they also have a very mountainous terrain NOT like Iraq its desert and flat, they also have a powerfull army and airforce not obliterated like Iraqs before the war..on top of all that they have now 1 billion dollars worth of SAM missliles and other arms from Russia …..YOU NEED TO WORRY BIG TIME as Bush has authorised he can first strike with nuclear missiles if needed this is whats gonna happen if you go into Iran….its the only way to win..Shame on you all who voted for bush

  252. bill says:

the yellowcake document ..find out who handed it in and trace it from there im sure it wasnt found just floating in the corridor of a CIA building and passed all the way to bush

ever thought about this Iraq has no nuclear facilities to even build a bomb from the yellowcake ..they had been bombed once by Isreal and the other two plants they had had been bombed out of recognision by american and the Uk 6 months before the war so why fall for the story ?

  253. LTJ says:

    RE: #255 from Bill.
The idea of hating all Americans is almost as stupid as the idea of supporting Bush Jr.
Don’t forget that 51% of the American people voted against Bush in 2000 and 48% did so in 2004. Today, the majority of Americans polled strongly disagree with Bush on Iraq.

As for “only 85% of Americans having passports”: do you know that it’s not even necessary to have a U.S. Passport to travel to Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. I went to all 3 countries BEFORE ever having a passport. Americans should travel more – but the distances are much greater than in Europe. You can drive over 700 miles (1100 km?) without leaving Texas. And it’s 3000 miles from New York to LA. How many Europeans really travel OUTSIDE of Western Europe, on a regular basis?

You’ve been around the world and still find it reasonable to hate ALL Americans — and that speaks for itself!

I’m sure the Dalai Lama would have appreciated some help when the Red Chinese threw his butt out of Tibet. Where were the Scots? But please notice he agrees with St. Augustine and myself that there is such a thing as a “just war”. Your problem and that of the majority of the posters here is that only the Communists, Islamofascists and other brutal Left Wing thugs can wage a just war. But then if you didn’t believe that you wouldn’t be the enemy would you?

Dali Lama: Iraq War May Be Justified
Scott Lindlaw, AP, September 10, 2003 11:09 PM

The Dalai Lama said Wednesday that the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan may have been justified to win a larger peace, but that is it too soon to judge whether the Iraq war was warranted. “I think history will tell,” he said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, just after he met with President Bush.

“In principle, I always believe nonviolence is the right thing, and nonviolent method is in the long run more effective,” said the Dalai Lama, who after the Sept. 11 attacks had implored Bush to avoid a violent response by the United States.

The exile Tibetan leader, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, said the Vietnam War increased suffering and was a “failure.” But, he said, some wars, including the Korean War and World War II, helped “protect the rest of civilization, democracy.” He said he saw a similar result in Afghanistan – “perhaps some kind of liberation.”

“The people themselves, I think, suffer a lot under their previous regimes,” he said. But he was adamant that the United States not lose sight of rebuilding Afghanistan.

The Dalai Lama urged Bush, in a letter on Sept. 12, 2001, to “think seriously whether a violent action is the right thing to do and in the greater interest of the nation and people in the long run.” Asked whether the Iraq war was just, the Dalai Lama said the situation there is “more complicated” and will take more time before he can judge.

bill, i find unpatriotic not to stand by your country. and very patriotic to stand up for what is right in ones country and even better when ones stands taller with a iron fist for what is wrong. so i would like to question your patriotism for you own country. not all of americans being patriotic means we agree with foreign policy or the ideology of our nazi government that is in place. we stand by our founding fathers and what america is really about. we are screaming at those who are turning are country into facsism. yes, there are a lot of sheeples in america due to the majority of americans being spoiled and simply not caring due to to much respect givin’ to the government thinking they are doing us good and they would never do wrong. one of americans biggest problems is not paying attention to the politics. we are no better than anyone else but that is not americans saying that, that is bush and co. what is even greater than that is finally the american people are coming together to get our country back and just simply starting to care. with all the patriotism going on during the war is not to murder those who are innocent and supporting the war but to be patriotic for the troops. letting them know we will be their voice and do our damndest to get them back as soon as possible and give them the truth. due to resident bushes and the rest of the reichwingers criminal ways they have tarnished our image world-wide but that has nothing to do with americans. we support the troops health and welfare and that would be unamerican if we didn’t. so i would advice you to stand up and be patriotic for what is wrong in your own ruling party, and we patriotic americans don’t need anymore cowards than we have already. those are the folks we’re trying to get rid of. and if the patriotic americans really want to stand up we’ll unite and and bring criminal charges against the nazi’s running our country. so instead of hating you should be doing the same in your country.

How hard will it be for us to explain to our children and our grandchildren that the Bush malignancy (can anyone think of a better metaphor for the relentless rapaciousness and purposeful ignorance of this misadministration?)was able to to spread unchecked through our country’s system for five years (longer than the French had to endure the humiliation of Vichy collaboration and German occupation.

Is this the best you Liberals can do? A story about Bush not mentioning the dead…? Maybe it was for the sake of the families. You know, making sure the families were all informed before he spoke about it… I think you Libs better worry about those Libs that voted for this war, and now wanna make a total 180. You Libs wanna brag about Bush’s numbers… Well, uhh, Bush isn’t running again! Have you seen those same poll numbers on the Lib Senators? Yah, down in the 20’s every single one! Yep, this whole, “Bush lied to us” thing isn’t washing, and it’s causing the Libs to fall to pieces at the seams. Hillary’s latest statement was a joke, and John Kerry just keeps on making a fool of himself. Oh and hey, when a nut like Tim Robbins tells a top Liberal politican like Hillary to, and I quote, “Hillary can kiss my butt”. Well, Libs, you gotta know you’ve got problems.

  261. Laur says:

I think that Bush would have lost any control of the press conference, had he given the proper acknowledgement of the 10 casualties. Then he wouldn’t have been able to adhere to the scripted format.

Bush has no compassion for the families of the troops. His administration has made it clear that our military are nothing more than the hired help, and (I’ve said this before, I realize this) Bush & his cronies have made it clear that they have nothing but derision toward the hired help. Hence the lack of gravity, the trivialization of suffering & sacrifice made. While our military enlisted, believing that they were doing honor & their patriotic duty on behalf of our nation, all the while, the president who insisted on this invasion of Iraq, was betraying the faith and values of our service personnel.

The Bush administration & their cronies simply do not much like Americans. If they did, they would honor the sacrifice of our troops, provide services for our wounded and the rest of our veterans, rather than slashing the budgets for the V.A. facilities. Why do we have 14 bases constructed in Iraq, if we aren’t going to be a presence there? Why are bases in the U.S. being closed? Why aren’t our troops properly equipped? Why are the “security forces” employed by the contractors being paid 10-20 times more per person than our soldiers? That’s money that comes from the U.S. taxpayer.

With the tax-cut that benefits the top .05% of the U.S. taxpayers, and the fact that a significant proportion of U.S. corporations pay NO taxes, the majority of us are underwriting the expense of this pre-emptive war.

Bush would probably be just as much of a jerk as an individual, had he not been born into a wealthy and influential family. But at least he, personally, would not have represented such a destructive force in the world as he is. He’s not really as stupid as we would wish to believe him to be, but I don’t think he’s as intelligent as, say, Stalin or Hitler were (evil as they were, although Stalin probably had Hitler’s number from the start), and they were not born into wealth.

The Bush administration has degraded the nation that it claims to be so patriotic about.

Bush does not value the lives of U.S. citizens (once they are born). The guy wouldn’t know a principle if it came up to him on the street and hit him upside the head.

  265. James says:

    DUSTING DOWNER
“This war was about Iraq possessing illegal weapons of mass destruction – yet we are using weapons of mass destruction ourselves. Such double-standards are repellent.” – Professor and former US colonel Doug Rokke, ex-director of the Pentagon’s depleted uranium project.

This week a former soldier won a landmark ruling, becoming the first veteran to win a war pension appeal after suffering Depleted Uranium (DU) poisoning. Kenny Duncan took the Ministry of Defence to the Pension Appeal Tribunal Service over his claim that he had suffered poisoning during active service in Iraq during the first Gulf War. Part of his job was to move Iraqi tanks destroyed by DU shells and the tribunal accepted that he was poisoned from inhaling DU dust from the burnt-out tanks. All 3 of Kenny’s children also have health problems since being born post-Gulf War.

It’s 13 years since the first Gulf War and no health tests for depleted uranium have been made available to former servicemen. A representative fighting for the veterans said, “Mr Blair talks about social justice but he still refuses to give servicemen a public inquiry and depleted uranium tests.” Rae Street from Campaign Against Depleted Uranium told SchNEWS, “This is a landmark case, it justifies our and many other groups’ and individuals’ struggle for a ban on ‘Depleted’ Uranium munitions.”

Veterans of the first Gulf War believe that DU exposure has played a role in leaving more than 5,000 of them chronically ill and almost 600 dead. But it’s not just soldiers who face a health time bomb. Professor Rokke said the Americans have unleashed a toxic disaster in the Middle East that will eclipse the Agent Orange tragedy of the Vietnam War. “Uranium dust is so fine that it acts like a gas, seeping through the tiny pores of protective masks. It contaminates air, water and soil for all eternity.”

  266. George Bush the long term murderer says:

    What is Depleted Uranium?
The misnamed ‘Depleted’ Uranium is left after enriched uranium is separated from natural uranium in order to produce fuel for nuclear reactors. During this process, the fissionable isotope Uranium 235 is separated from uranium. The remaining uranium, which is 99.8% uranium 238 is misleadingly called ‘depleted uranium’. While the term ‘depleted’ implies it isn’t particularly dangerous, in fact, this waste product of the nuclear industry is ‘conveniently’ disposed of by producing deadly weapons.

Depleted uranium is chemically toxic. It is an extremely dense, hard metal, and can cause chemical poisoning to the body in the same way as can lead or any other heavy metal. However, depleted uranium is also radiologically hazardous, as it spontaneously burns on impact, creating tiny aerosolised glass particles which are small enough to be inhaled. These uranium oxide particles emit all types of radiation, alpha, beta and gamma, and can be carried in the air over long distances. Depleted uranium has a half life of 4.5 billion years, and the presence of depleted uranium ceramic aerosols can pose a long term threat to human health and the environment.

    Depleted Uranium at War
In the 1950’s the United States Department of Defense became interested in using depleted uranium metal in weapons because of its extremely dense, pyrophoric qualities and because it was cheap and available in huge quantities. It is now given practically free of charge to the military and arms manufacturers and is used both as tank armour, and in armour-piercing shells known as depleted uranium penetrators. Over 15 countries are known to have depleted uranium weapons in their militaray arsenals – UK, US, France, Russia, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Pakistan, Thailand, Iraq and Taiwan – with depleted uranium rapidly spreading to other countries.

Depleted uranium was first used on a large scale in military combat during the 1991 Gulf War, and has since been used in Bosnia in 1995, and again in the Balkans war of 1999.

A sub-commission of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights appointed a ‘rapporteur’ to investigate the use of depleted uranium weapons among other types of weapons, after passing a resolution which categorised depleted uranium weapons alongside such as nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, napalm, and cluster bombs as a ‘weapon of indiscriminate effect’.

    Depleted Uranium at Home
Depleted uranium is also used in civilian products. For example, it is used as ballast in aeroplanes (having disastrous consequences in 1992 when an El-Al jet crashed into flats near Amsterdam – depleted uranium was also involved in the recent Stansted Korean Air crash – see CADU News issue 3 for full report). It is also used in some hospital equipment. The alarming Euratom (European Atomic Energy Community) objective which will allow the ‘recycling’ of low-level radioactive waste in to consumer goods has also raised concerns that depleted uranium may be used in this way.

    Deadly Recycling
Making weapons and other items out of the waste products of the nuclear business is a very ‘convenient’, very cheap, but potentially deadly way to get rid of the nuclear waste.

  275. MARINE WIFE says:

Being a very close family friend of one of these 10 Marines that were killed, I find the majority of your comments to be misguided. Having attended services this week at Arlington National Cemetary, it would have been entirely unappropriate for the President to attend. Although I am a Bush supporter, I would have felt that the attendance of political official such as the president would have been just that, political. Don’t talk about the death of my friend as a job opening. It’s disrespectful; I don’t care what kind of point you were sarcastically attempting to get at. Our friends died for what they believed in. If given the chance, my friend would not change the outcome of his death. You don’t see the progress and difference that our husbands see first hand in Iraq. You only see what you watch on the news or hear from some random fanatic looking for attention that doesn’t believe in what we are doing. When things are harder, cost more, or take longer than I annticipated at the start, I don’t quit, America doesn’t quit, our dedicated troops don’t quit, popular or not.
So, Bush knew 911 was coming? Who knows, but maybe, just maybe, Bush knows a whole lot more than all of us. Maybe, just maybe the President of the United States has more information than you and I, and he is stopping the threat to America before it happens again. America is constantly under threat. There is no way that Bush knew 911 would happen. You silly people. Have a little faith. Honor the cause. You bitch after something happens, saying we did nothing to stop the attack; then you bitch before it happens when we try to stop future attacks. I’m not sure any of you deserve what my husband gives.
Oh, and as for the economy, I have never had a problem getting a job….and here is the secret: Serve fries for 4 or 5 years to put yourself through college (as I did, without the assistance of rich parents or government grants), get a degree in an industry that will always be hiring, and get a job! I’m a CPA in case you are looking for an example. Oh, and when college gets tougher and costs more than you anticipated, don’t give up.

  276. Gold-Star Marine Dad says:

The supporters of this monstrosity in Iraq are deluded by the media as well as the government. There is no left-leaning media in the US because media is controlled by corporations such as Disney and Newscorp(the owners of FOX). Instead of real information we are fed false news such as the “700 club”. My son and other Americans died (and continue to die) in the desert so these lying packs of predatory weasels can wax fat on Defense Industry stock-options. The supporters of this “war” are complicit in the destruction of one of the “Cradles of Civilization as well as torture, use of WMDs, and the sodomy of children in Abu Ghraib prison. The day after my boy was buried 15 other men from his unit were killed. It seems they were standing together in one place, which went against training. Turns out they were all on anti-depressants, maybe that had something to do with their brief lapse. So they are being drugged in the field while their benefits at home are being ruthlessly cut, as well as funding for their housing and educational funding for their kids. This is how George the Puppet King and Cheney and Rumsfeld, the Puppetmasters, honor and support the troops. They must go and their supporters defeated and disempowered.
