Yesterday, 10 Marines were killed in Fallujah by a roadside bomb. President Bush knew about it before he made remarks at 10:45AM in the Rose Garden. From today’s White House press conference:
QUESTION: Can I ask, when the president came to the Rose Garden this morning about 10:45, at that hour, did the White House already know about this attack on the Marines in Fallujah?
MCCLELLAN: Yes, we did. The president was informed about the loss of the Marines last night and those that were injured, and then he was briefed again this morning.
But Bush didn’t mention it. He didn’t want to take the focus off today’s message, the “good news” about the economy.
That heartless son of a Barbara.
December 2nd, 2005 at 3:13 pmWell, by God, it is good news! Seems we have new job openings for at least 10 replacement marines.

Documentary charges electronic voting flawed
By SZABOLCS KORDOS
Sun Staff Reporter
12/02/2005
Only a handful of people showed up at the Cline Library on Wednesday for the first Flagstaff screening of the new documentary “Votergate,” yet the movie’s topic could affect everybody in this country.
The creators of the movie claim that the new touchscreen voting systems are vulnerable to hackers and fraud and that citizens have no way to verify if their vote was really counted.
The young team behind the movie ended up with a shocking result at the end of its nationwide investigation: Anybody is able to change the results of the elections.
According to the movie, the central tabulator of the Diebold voting system, called GEMS, is based on Windows Access, jut like any household laptop or PC.
And just like in the home, it does break down quite often.
The filmmakers contended you don’t need to be a high-skilled computer expert to enter the program and change the results in a matter of seconds without leaving any trace behind. But the worst thing about the system is that there is no proof that every single vote has been counted, and counted correctly. Unlike in the case of the traditional ballots, recounting does not lead anywhere since there is no permanent record on the votes.
At the Wednesday event sponsored by Democracy for America-Flagstaff, Dr. Tom Ryan, founder of Arizona Citizens for Fair Elections, emphasized the importance of keeping the Diebold Tsx voting machine out of Arizona.
Patty Hansen, the elections director for the county, told the Arizona Daily Sun that optical scanners are used in Coconino County, but it is up to the office of the Secretary of State to give the final word on any change.

December 2nd, 2005 at 3:33 pmMCCLELLAN: Yes, we did. The president was informed about the loss of the Marines last night and those that were injured, and then he was briefed again this morning.
But…he wasn’t briefed during his press conference, so he probably forgot he’d been briefed that morning, and the night before. He needs to be briefed more frequently when he’s drinking heavily.

Aren’t you and Vice President Cheney so fortunate. You can bet your last dollar, Smirk, that if two Democratic leaders were holding office and one of their ex-companies(should we say HALLIBURTON) was making profits off of policies that they shaped(really lied about those WMD, huh?)you and everyone else in this country would be crying foul and shouting about “conflict of interest”, etc. Why is it, Smirk, that you OIL men get away with so much? Enjoy the spOILs of your phony war, smirk, while you can. Too bad men like Nathan Hale aren’t around to confront your bulls*#%. Those ten service members deserve better than your illegal OIL grab. But, what the heck, what do you care, Smirk, the economy is doing great(too bad for our sons and daughters;husbands and wives; uncles and aunts(you get the picture)won’t be around to enjoy our economy…they died listening to your bull*#%.

Let me see, the U.S. was prosperous (lay-offs were UNCOMMON), a healthy public opinion and WORLD opinion (STILL)…The man can go to ANY country and walk among people and will be welcomed with OPEN ARMS…THINK PROGRESS had a story about past and present…Look it up!
Dubbya can’t even walk the streets of Crawferd without security shutting down the streets and businesses! So to preface ANYTHING is his (Clinton’s) CHARACTER…Unlike Dubbya who cannot speak the english language with any clarity, let alone show any remorse for the killings he has committed because it would ruin his photo-op!
He’d rather talk about jobs and good news (if you can call it that), rather than admit he’s a consistent failure…Hey, he’s scared of Cindy Sheehan. What does that tell ya?

Mr. Compassion’s soul (oops! that assumes he HAS a soul) must be dead and moldering somewhere in his gut. He is too addled to keep a train of thought going as it is….don’t throw any poop in his game about blood, gore, or wounded and dead military personnel. As a Christian, it burns my butt when Smirk and his ilk (and Dobson and Robertson, and on and on) start acting all sanctimonious. They’re who Jesus was talking about when he quoted Isaiah, “They come near me with their mouth and honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me.”
I’m sorry that these guys are the ones giving everyone an idea that this is what being a Christian is all about because its not. They’re what happens when bad Christians happen to good people.

Johnson WAS protested and degraded to a poor leader in his time…He was NOT beyond reproach and MANY of the protests happened in D.C., because THAT’s where he was! Not like Dubbya who is vacationing in Crawferd ALL the time and using LOCAL police to remove the people from his view as he drives by! Hey, he’s a UNITER…
Putting the MOTHER of a soldier who dies under HIS command in jail for asking to speak to HER president…He’s a UNITER!
Refusing to meet with the mothers of the soldiers to OUTLINE his STRATEGY for victory, instead OFFERING a watered-down version of the ARMED FORCES battlefield guide!…He’s a UNITER!
Refusing to allow the VFW to testify before Congress and ON THE VERY DAY (without them knowing) you give a SPEECH before thier members…He’s a UNITER!
As it was stated earlier, NEITHER THE PRESIDENT OR HIS STAFF HAS ATTENDED THE FUNERAL OF A SLAIN SOLDIER…TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, RUINSFELD HAD AN AUTO-WRITER SIGN THE LETTERS TO THE FAMILY FOR THEIR LOSS, until he was caught doing so!
So “if” that doesn’t tell you about the man, then NOTHING will…
Didn’t Dickless attend the Veteran’s Day ceremony this year? Now that’s a sight…At least Clinton (even with his Deferrments) attended the ceremony (EVERY YEAR) and showed some honor for those who served. Where was Bush?
“And yet, Bush still gave it the old college try and stood like a cowboy in front of Veterans on Veterans Day and punched back at those critical of his strategy in Iraq. Traditionally, the President would attend a wreath-laying ceremony on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, but Bush instead used a photo opportunity in front of Veterans to really get tough on the softies out there who would like to see some sort of strategy for success.”

With this new info from Iraq only makes it worse. It not just a slogan it’s the truth. Bush lies, men die.

December 2nd, 2005 at 5:51 pmWhat a difference a country can make. When Canadian soldiers were killed in Afganistan, their arrival back to their homeland was carried live on the CBC news. The Prime Minister and all the top government officials, including the Defense Minister were there along with family and friends of the soldiers. They stood together on the tarmack to watch the plane land and the somber march by coffin-bearing honour guard troops. The Prime Minister and other officials spoke and honoured the dead. You could almost feel the lumps in their throats. I sure felt one in mine. The U.S. government needs to honour each and every returning dead soldier and Bush and Co. should have to attend each returning flight and have it broadcast to the American public. This is a war that is being waged by cowardly men hiding behind the proverbial curtain. See no evil- Hear no evil- Speak no truth.

December 2nd, 2005 at 6:46 pmSo we are PAYING them to print the TRUTH….
Ummmmmm….Yeah, right! It’s done in war ALL the time…
If I remember correctly in Desert Storm, we DID NOT pay any media agency or outlet to print our GOOD DEEDS in the country…However, we did drop leaflets telling the soldiers how to surrender and where to go…
PAYING for TRUTH about the (so-called) WAR (is anyone else sick of hearing everyone call this a war, when it really isn’t?)…
WHAT a LIAR and CHEAT will not do to WIN over public opinion!!!
December 2nd, 2005 at 6:50 pmHey folks, this thread is about compassion. Let’s get back to the subject, else, we will have trolls coming into this just like an Oyster Knife in a Baltimore restaurant. People died, W ignored them.
December 2nd, 2005 at 6:54 pmI think even GBI is probably ashamed of GBII.
December 2nd, 2005 at 6:55 pmJIMBO…
The ONLY person that can EVER do that is CLINTON! BUSH…IN Harlem or COMPTON! Man, they’d evacuate every (black) citizen and transplant every “fake” black republican they could find with old (Uncle Tom) J.C. Watts leading the parade!
Then screen the people to see who liked him and who would curse him out, and then try a few test runs, and then he’d show up an hour late…
WHAT an IDIOT!!!
December 2nd, 2005 at 6:55 pmguess you get what you voted.hope Dumbyas mandate [51%] ? doesn’t include getting more of our young people killed.
December 2nd, 2005 at 6:56 pmUp for a vote: Jumpy Jaw and Crashcart!
December 2nd, 2005 at 6:58 pmWaltTheMan,
Haven’t you noticed a decided *lack* of trolls today?
Not on ONE post I’ve visited.
They’re either at a Rove Revival, or…
maybe it’s one stinking troll making up all the other names, and he or she got sick today…, thus, no trolls.
(I’m thinking that last one….)
Anyway, Happy Posting!

December 2nd, 2005 at 7:05 pmI still laugh every time I see that.
That is priceless.
When W wants to support our troops, he sends bras and jock straps to the front.
December 2nd, 2005 at 7:10 pmSadly, events like this will continue until the U.S. brings all our troops home from Iraq.
December 2nd, 2005 at 7:14 pmI refuse to attend any X-mass , or any party period , until our troopd are back home . So far i have no reason to celebrate .This war was started by the corrupt for the corrupt and for the poor slobs who rush and stumble to the malls an W-mart .Boycott the malls .
December 2nd, 2005 at 7:31 pmTrue Blue. Scared is not a strong enough word. Have been petrefied since this jerk wad and his nut cases were installed into office. Sadly I knew how this presidency might go based on the giant f*** up’s he pulled in Texas and his background before that. It turned out even worse than I thought, largly because most of america is wooed with lieing sound bites. Can’t believe it has come to this….Blessings

9/11, Iraq & PNAC - The Connection is Clear & Undeniable
THE COMMON SENSE CONNECTION: THESE MEN LIED IN ORDER TO START A WAR AND IN THE PROCESS THEY SACRIFICED THE LIVES OF OVER 2000 AMERICN SOLDIERS. WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT THEY DID NOT SACRIFICE 3000 TOTAL STRANGERS ON 9/11/2001 FOR THE SAME PURPOSE?
With all the recent questions being asked about the lies that led us to war one question is still being ignored: what does 9/11 have to do with the US invasion of Iraq. The answer is not what you have been told; the illogical claim that 9/11 changed everything and it caused the US to change the way they dealt with potential threats. The real connection here is that 9/11 gave the men who wanted to invade Iraq so badly that they lied to the world in order to do it, the political and popular support to go ahead with their radical agenda.
The one question that becomes more relevant, less controversial and more important as the lies that led us to war are brought to light is this: who benefited from the events of 9/11 and how did they benefit?
Just as the members of the Project for a New American Century stated in their manifesto they needed a new Pearl Harbor in order to get the popular support for their radical agenda and they got that new Pearl Harbor on 9/11/2001. Imagine that; the very men who were in positions to prevent, permit or conduct the attacks of 9/11/2001 were the very people who had their wish granted at the moment the first plane hit the WTC.
Another obvious benefit of 9/11 is the open ended financial jackpot delivered to the military industrial complex and to the energy industry; both of which are interwoven with the members of the Bush/PNAC administration. These people have received untold and virtually unlimited financial profits as a result of the events of 9/11. The independent researchers have uncovered mountains of evidence indicating inside (American) complicity in the events of 9/11 yet many people refuse to believe them based on one premise; they refuse to believe that Americans would hurt other Americans. If this were true we would not need prisons. We would not have a Mafia. Greed alone has been the driving force that has caused man to kill man on a massive scale. Greed has been the driving force behind the murders of spouses, children, parents and total strangers. What makes you think that greed alone is not a good enough reason for war profiteers, who as a livelihood deal in death, to sacrifice a few thousand strangers so that they can reap unlimited fortune? That alone could alone serve as motive for taking part in the horrific events of 9/11/2001.
Nothing corrupts the human sole more than greed, but greed was not the only potential motivating factor for conducting such an event. The Project for a New American Century’s entire reason for being hinged on such an event. A huge part of that agenda was the invasion of Iraq.
The invasion of Iraq was made possible only by the events of 9/11. To date we have not even heard a theory put forth on how Muslim extremists have, or would have benefited from those events. They had nothing to gain and from what we have witnessed as the world turned against the Muslim people, they had everything to lose. We have seen a great deal of “EVIDENCE†indicating, at the very least that many actions were taken by operatives within the Bush/PNAC administration to paralyze procedures that were in place to prevent and/or address an attack of that nature. Even more “EVIDENCE†has been uncovered that indicates a far greater level of involvement by insiders.
What we have here is a group of men (PNAC) who had a plan. The plan included invading Iraq. They openly admitted that this would not be possible without an event like 9/11. (They used the term “new Pearl Harbor†but you can obviously see the connection.) They were in key positions to ensure that events of 9/11 take place, either by conducting them or by permitting them to play out. Now they are being exposed for the lies they told about Iraq that permitted them to invade a nation and kill 10s if not 100s of thousands of people including 2000 Americans.
I ask all people to examine the motive/benefit/evidence links between the events of 9/11 and the members of the Bush administration who were involved with the Project for a New American Century. These links become more defined and understandable as each lie related to the invasion of Iraq is exposed. Think about it

IraqVet- where were you at in Iraq, and when?

Will someone PLEASE give this man a b-job so we can impeach him!
December 2nd, 2005 at 7:42 pmThe thought that fourteen more families received horrific news saddens me so deeply. These war criminals should rot in hell for their illegal, immoral war.

December 2nd, 2005 at 7:54 pmEvery “Born Againer” we know has been involved in some pretty nasty stuff in their past, drugs, etc. and then went the opposite extreme (one friend is now a minister!). I think his mental stability is very tenuous.
In the meantime, has ANYONE seen the Bush twins in the last five months? Seriously, I think they must be at the famous “undisclosed location” to keep them out of sight. It would have been nice to see them helping out down in the Katrina fiasco aftermath, even as a photo op. But I really want to see them in Iraq…as Cindy Sheehan says, it is time that Bush put “a little skin in the game.”
The bastard.

December 2nd, 2005 at 8:26 pmMighty Aphrodite, as the daughter of a WWII vet who wss at Normandy, the wife of a Vietnam combat medic, and the mother of a National Guard soldier, I support the military. But this is an illegal, immoral war. And you may not be pessimistic, but we are creating more terrorists by our continued occupation. George the Father declined to enter Baghdad because “we would then own it”. Guess what:
$300 BILLION - NO EXIT PLAN. Still feeling cheerful? Or manybe you have lots of Lockheed Martin and Halliburton stock?
December 2nd, 2005 at 8:26 pmHey, aphrodite #120 I like the quotes from some of the posts here. And that sly little “sharp objects” remark was certainly original.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but here are two other quotes about the economy you might want to include:
“The company is probably in the stongest and best shape it has ever been in.” Kenneth Lay, CEO, Enron
“A weak currency is a sign of a weak economy, and a weak economy leads to a weak nation.” Ross Perot, CEO & tycoon
Cheers.

December 2nd, 2005 at 8:50 pmJeff, I hear the army is looking for soldiers. Why don’t you go make things better?
December 2nd, 2005 at 8:53 pmI am not seeing a lot of ideas from the neo-cons on how to make things better. have seen many put forward ideas, mostly involving getting out of our current situation, and putting the country and economy on track. but why change when we can “stay the course” even though the course is gone and were in swamp.
Hows this for an idea. A complete switch of all automobiles to non-oil sources (i.e. Bio-desial, hydrogen etc) by 2010?
December 2nd, 2005 at 8:55 pm#131, Does Bushie have a plan? Did any of them have a plan for what to do after the flower petal parade was over?
December 2nd, 2005 at 9:00 pm#131 Jeff, Who’s whining? Who’s complaining? Sounds like you and your miserable life with your 2 inch dick have but no other choice but to come throw a grenade into a legitmate adult conversation to help yourself feel better about your inadequate opinions. Thanks for letting us know how you FEEL because as you know liberal eat asses like us are concerned with feelings more than substance. December 2nd, 2005 at 9:07 pmWhy should the smirking chimp worry about 10 dead marines, when he has much more important worries on his mind…like hmmm I wonder if it’s going to be nippy this weekend at Camp David and will the new presidential flannel sheets be on my bed..
December 2nd, 2005 at 9:30 pmWell Jeff the Baster calling us whining liberals,
December 2nd, 2005 at 9:48 pmHere is how I made/make things BETTER as a liberal:
I was part of a movement called forests forever so you and you children can appreciate old growth forests.
I volunteer with Cancer foundations and the Leukemia Society.
I protested this war and agreed with those who wanted the weapons inspections completed.
I have another idea to make things better. I am working toward impeaching this presendent and working toward efforts to convince America to VOTE out the Republicans as they did in 1992 when Bush Senior was driving the economy into the ground. You wait Jeffy, this war will be the BIGGEST mistake in History.
My husband SERVED in the Air Force, My Father SERVED in the Navy. I have a cousin who SERVED in Iraq and returned a year ago. Most of my cousins have SERVED. I did not because WAR is not my thing, but I SERVE humanity. How dare anyone call us whining liberals when I bet people like Jeff most likely have only SERVED himself.

Hey IraqVet, I was with the BigRedOne. FOB Manhattan…God, that must have been one of the dust bowl camps, like FOB McKenzie, Duke, and Warhorse, or the “looks-like-a-German-bunker-complex” ones like Brassfield Mora. That must have sucked.
PW - there was a website that I happened upon recently that went into detail about this; I can’t recall right off hand, but it scared the shit outta me. If I happen upon it again, I’ll let you know.
December 2nd, 2005 at 9:59 pmYes, a troll!
I have served and am serving. Have lost friends, have been to Iraq (which is more than any person here can say) and will most likely go back again in a year or so. I volunteer, donate money, and help build houses with Habitat for Humanity, and yet I don’t hate George Bush. He’s by no means ideal as a president, but he’s not the worst (Lyndon Johnson) president ever. There are many more that are worse than he, and I would put him firmly at about 25.

I can’t believe this idiot in office has destroyed more than those cretins on 911 could ever have dreamed of doing. The people who commandeered the planes that destroyed the World Trade Center didn’t have WMD’s. All they needed was the element of surprise. Now that we have this massive war going on, nobody can hear. We are deaf to what the masterminds are up to. Great, just great.

December 2nd, 2005 at 10:39 pmI don’t know why the House did not take the front and center on this by voting FOR the immediate pullout when they had the chance–what better way to prove there is an opposition party.
Afraid of “Cut and Run”? Does the House not know that a drunk cannot ease off? It’s stop drinking or die! Go to ALANON! Now!
A country drunk on war cannot ease off either. The only cure is to admit that this is an illegal drunk war and stop killing, and get out. But no!, our Congress has to have it’s Peace with Honor. So the killing will go on until they are sufficiently shamed into doing the right thing.
At least 3 House Reps had the courage to say “We must get out, now”.

Don’t know if that will work.
Mr. Kevin P. Reilly, Jr.
Chairman & CEO
Lamar Advertising Co.
5551 Corporate Blvd.
Baton Rouge, LA 70808
Dear Mr. Reilly:
We are writing on behalf of the Democratic National Committee to demand that Lamar honor a contract its Huntington, West Virginia office entered with the DNC for placement of two billboard advertisements in Portsmouth, Ohio. These advertisements accurately referred to a statement made by U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives attacking a respected Member of Congress and decorated war veteran. The advertisements were aimed at informing her constituents about this statement, and called on Rep. Schmidt to cease such attacks.
The DNC was told by your Huntington regional manager that Lamar is refusing to honor the contract because the advertisements are “too negative.” In addition to refusing to honor the contract for the Portsmouth billboards, Lamar, through its Cincinnati office, refused to accept the same advertisement for placement on billboards in Cincinnati.
While Lamar’s form contract reserves to the company the right to refuse to run a billboard advertisement, Lamar’s conduct in this instance raises serious questions about whether the company is unlawfully or improperly using corporate resources to favor or benefit the Republican Party or Rep. Schmidt. Your regional manager was unable to cite any company policy providing any objective standards or criteria for rejecting political or advocacy advertising.
Rep. Schmidt’s constituents are entitled to know what she is saying on the floor of the U.S. House and the DNC has a right to tell them. Lamar should either offer a credible reason for its efforts to censor the Democratic Party or else should live up to its contractual obligation and let the DNC put up its billboard and let the people of Rep. Schmidt’s district hear the truth.
Please let us know immediately whether Lamar intends to honor its contract–and if not, why. Fairness and the public interest demand no less.
Sincerely,
Joseph Sandler, General Counsel, Democratic National Committee
Amanda LaForge, Chief Counsel Democratic National Committee

December 2nd, 2005 at 11:02 pmEven death is politicized in this white house, where black hearts hold the upper hand. But they will eventually fold when someone inside it discovers their conscience, and blows the cover off this pack of lying, cowardly, greedy thieves.
December 2nd, 2005 at 11:05 pmTo the guys that are blogging here that have been in Iraq I have a few comments and questions for you.
The fact that you had the courage to volunteer to serve the country in a military capacity (though you may have gotten more than you bargained for) deserves tremendous respect and you have it here. What makes me even more proud to be an American is that it requires greater courage to stand up in the face of what may be VERY unpopular in your circles to voice your opinions about this war. To do what you believe is right, stand up for the truth. NOTHING is more patriotic than that.
I’d love to know what the feeling is among the enlisted men in general about the war. How many know that it’s based on a lie? How many are willing to face the horrible reality that the president and his henchmen waged an illegal and immoral war for power and profit?
I’ve been noticing a lot of servicemen on the blogs lately and I’m wondering if their back here in the States or if they’re online from Iraq, Kuwait, Germany of somewhere else overseas?
Is it possible to access the web on the military’s time (and dime?) without having your every move watched?
Why are so many guys home now? We keep hearing about 2nd and 3rd tours of duty, recruiting shortages and obviously the killed and wounded….if your tour of duty ends is it likely you’ll have to go back?
Please come back here often and let us know what your thinking and I pray that none of you have to return to Bush’s disastrous war of choice and greed. You guys are the best!

December 2nd, 2005 at 11:37 pmPres. JumpyJaw may have inherited his substance abuse problem from his daddy, who had a problem during his own presidency with halcyon. Bush Sr. would take halcyon (officially as a “sleep aid”) on Air Force One, which he used more and more as his presidency got into trouble. At one point he even threw up on the Japanese Prime Minister, prompting the Japanese to coin a word, “bushusuru,” meaning vomit.
