Young people such as these are by and large unattached to the myriad of social and economic responsibilities of older americans. I know that in my own personal situation it would be next to impossible to intern and oversee my many business interests and also fulfill my familial obligations. Having said that i do believe many americans in all walks of life have many ideas and abilities that need mining by organizations such as yours. Reading the posts it seems to me that many people across this nation are frustrated by the fact that a forum for "working people" to express themselves and to share ideas and possibly have a hands on experience in the area of policy making is either non-existant or has minimal impact on the minds of our university educated brothers and sisters. Sometimes people want college age interns so they are not challenged, or to feel more important. I hope that is not the case here, as this is a solid organization that should attract quality participants. If you're not getting college credits for the "internship" position, then its just volunteer work. Open it up to everyone, and look for people with something more to contribute than young idealist dreams. Those of us who are still idealists at 40 are much, much better at making our case and explaining our reasoning. You might think about coming up with opportunities for those of us that have been around awhile and have seen and participated in the changes that came about in the '60's and 70's. It seems to be one of the over-all problems with employment and the economy that life experience is given less importance than sitting in a class room working with hypotheticals.
