All those make great Christmas/Holiday gifts for us. The only gift Bush and his conservative allies deserve are lumps of coal in their stockings.

[...] Interestingly enough, as Think Progress has pointed out, both President Bush and Governor Jeb Bush of Florida sent out their holiday cards this year completely devoid of “Merry Christmas”. No word from Fox yet on whether they believe the Bush brothers are active members of the “liberal plot to ban the sacred Christian Holiday” or if it’s just that the liberals have infiltrated their administrations and are now working from the inside. Scary stuff. [...]

STORRS, Conn. -- Conservative columnist Ann Coulter gave up trying to finish a speech at the University of Connecticut on Wednesday night when boos and jeers from the audience became overwhelming.

Coulter cut off the talk after 15 minutes and instead held a half-hour question-and-answer session.

"I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am," Coulter told the 2,600 people at Jorgensen Auditorium.

Coulter's appearance prompted protests from several groups, including Students Against Hate and the Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center. They criticized her for spreading a message of hate and intolerance.

Nearly 100 students gathered inside the Student Union for a rally against Coulter. About a half-dozen people held protest signs outside the auditorium.

After a book signing following her appearance, Coulter called the audience's reaction "typical."

Coulter, originally from New Canaan, Conn., has a history of bashing Democrats in best-selling books, frequent television appearances and speeches. Harding University in Arkansas dropped her from its lecture series in September, citing her abrasive image.

Last April, the president of the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota denounced a speech on the campus by Coulter, calling it hateful. In October 2004, University of Arizona police arrested two men who ran on stage and threw custard pies at Coulter; one of the pies glanced off her shoulder.

"<strong>Bush "claims to be a born-again, evangelical Christian. But he sure doesn't act like one</strong>," said Joseph Farah, editor of the conservative Web site WorldNetDaily.com. "I threw out my White House card as soon as I got it."

I have been saying that since before he got into office. My mother is a devout Christian. She would never even think of doing some of the things that Bush does. He does not act anything like any Christians I know.

<a href="http://www.christmas-tree.org/songs_carols.html" rel="nofollow">Here We Come a Wassailing:

Here we come a wassailing among the leaves so green
Here we come a wandering so fair to be seen

Love and joy come to you and to your wassail too
And God bless you and send you a happy New Year
And God send you a happy New Year

We are not daily beggars that beg from door to door
We are your neighbor's children whom you have seen before

God bless the master of this house, likewise the mistress, too
And all the little children that round the table go.</a>

Do you see a 'Merry Christmas' in there?

For shame, to write a Christmas carol and not include the words 'Merry Chritmas.' The composer should be sentenced to death... posthomously.

George Bush doesn't have to say "Merry Christmas" if he doesn't want to. He can say "Happy Holidays" if he so chooses. It's his business, not anyone elses.

Here's one:

"Season's Greetings from President and Mrs. Bush"

If he would stop all of the war policy and concentrate on some peace, he might just find it.

Christmas time's a comin'

“Season’s Greetings from President and Mrs. Bush”

If he would stop all of the war policy and concentrate on some peace, he might just find it.

Yea, I read that article this morning. Thankfully the reichtwing christians weren't blaming Clinton but expressed their ire at dumbya.

I don't mind saying Merry Christmas to people who aren't necessarily christian, but I do think that it is polite to say Happy Holidays if you are addressing a large group of mixed religions. Honestly, I think bushco did the right thing in saying Happy Holidays on this one. What is up with certain christians now? How in the hell can they claim to be persecuted when they are a majority? Didn't their mothers teach them about being polite and respectful of others or do they think their mothers were fools and morons for being "nice"? Fascist bastards.

Oops, I think Dumbya is in trouble again with the ever faithful:

What's missing from the White House Christmas card? Christmas.

This month, as in every December since he took office, President Bush sent out cards with a generic end-of-the-year message, wishing 1.4 million of his close friends and supporters a happy "holiday season."

Many people are thrilled to get a White House Christmas card, no matter what the greeting inside. But some conservative Christians are reacting as if Bush stuck coal in their stockings.

"This clearly demonstrates that the Bush administration has suffered a loss of will and that they have capitulated to the worst elements in our culture," said William A. Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights.

Bush "claims to be a born-again, evangelical Christian. But he sure doesn't act like one," said Joseph Farah, editor of the conservative Web site WorldNetDaily.com. "I threw out my White House card as soon as I got it."

Religious conservatives are miffed because they have been pressuring stores to advertise Christmas sales rather than "holiday specials" and urging schools to let students out for Christmas vacation rather than for "winter break." They celebrated when House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) insisted that the sparkling spectacle on the Capitol lawn should be called the Capitol Christmas Tree, not a holiday spruce.

Then along comes a generic season's greeting from the White House, paid for by the Republican National Committee. The cover art is also secular, if not humanist: It shows the presidential pets -- two dogs and a cat -- frolicking on a snowy White House lawn.

"Certainly President and Mrs. Bush, because of their faith, celebrate Christmas," said Susan Whitson, Laura Bush's press secretary. "Their cards in recent years have included best wishes for a holiday season, rather than Christmas wishes, because they are sent to people of all faiths."

That is the same rationale offered by major retailers for generic holiday catalogues, and it is accepted by groups such as the National Council of Churches. "I think it's more important to put Christ back into our war planning than into our Christmas cards," said the council's general secretary, the Rev. Bob Edgar, a former Democratic congressman.

But the White House's explanation does not satisfy the groups -- which have grown in number in recent years -- that believe there is, in the words of the Heritage Foundation, a "war on Christmas" involving an "ever-stronger push toward a neutered 'holiday' season so that non-Christians won't be even the slightest bit offended."
