Speaker Hastert is more than willing to extend the duration of Congressional recesses, but only when he thinks that by doing so he might help serial ethics-violators and/or criminal indictees gain more influence in the House.
Perhaps instead of looking at their acts singularly we should look at the whole group and their connections. When one looks where they have their associations one sees we are in very deep trouble indeed. Our government is full on both sides of the aisle if members of the skull & Bones society. These are the offshoot of the old trilateral commission whose objective was the destruction of US sovereignty and a world govt. The members are scary!
Gorge W. Bush
Dick Cheney
Carl Rove
Donald Rumsfeld
John F. Kerry
I am sure if we look hard enough more will come to light.

While I agree this congress is aweful and needs to be held accountavle, I don't think that will save us from the rest of them and what they have in store for us.

Wakr up America and do the research before it's too late.
PLEASE!!!

Bird Dogging and the Patriot Act

December 8, 2005

It’s clear that Hastert is DeLay’s bird dog, making it clear that he going to try to give DeLay one last shot to hold on to his leadership post, making it more important than doing his job for the American people. There are tons of important issues this Congress has to deal with and right now (to me, that it) is dealing with the USA Patriot Act. The version of the USA PATRIOT Act reauthorization reported by the House and Senate conference committee is a disaster! It leaves much of the legislation's worst provisions intact: If enacted, the Justice Department will retain the authority to investigate American citizens without judicial oversight; the government will still be able to search individuals’ private property without notifying them; and authorities will still be able to search citizens’ library records, medical records, school records, and financial records virtually unchecked by the judiciary. This bill must be stop through any means, including a filibuster. House and Senate negotiators have struck a deal on reauthorizing the USA PATRIOT Act, leaving many of the bill’s worst provisions intact. Before leaving for recess, several senators were threatening to filibuster this legislation if it contained these provisions. Don’t let the USA PATRIOT Act get away with a thing. Let's call and support these and all senators to go all the way to fight for our civil liberties! Tell your senators to filibuster the USA PATRIOT Act as soon as possible.

What next?? WEll for one thing I hope Justice will be coming for both our illustrious Senator Burns, and our House rep, Rehberg. They both sent me lengthy e-mails about why some programs have to be cut to pay for Katrina etc. Read food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, Farm aid. Not one answered when I asked how they'd vote on their own pay raises and so-called tax cuts. Burns even went so far as to say he would not vote for cutting anyone's food stamps! Of course he wouldn't, that was in the House bill, not the Senate's. Liberal Lady in Montana

This comment is influenced by Graywolf48 #54

Why is it that Americans have not erupted into riotous anger over the Bush Administration's abuse?

Think of it -- 1776, The dual French Revolutions, 1917 Russia, The Boxers, Mau Mau, Vietnam, Algeria, all for roughly the same reason. The rich bastards who run things periodically push too far and get killed. Why not here?

Now don't get me wrong. I advocate no violence. Still, historically, most revolutions have occured for lesser reasons. Even our own rebellion against the Crown was provoked by less (Tea taxes -- they must have been Republicans).

I'm beginning to think Americans are just too stupid and self-absorbed to really care.
"Oh, watching it just makes me mad. Let's talk about something else."

Proud to be an American?
Stuff it.

"...putting the nation’s business on hold...

Hastert has scheduled the first House session of 2006 for Jan. 31 — after a holiday break of more than a month, and two weeks after senators are due to return to Washington.

hmmmm... and these are the same folks (re-thug-licans) that went absolutely fu**ing ballistic ("Dems precventing congress from doing the people's business/work... blahblahblah") when (Give 'Em Hell) Harry Reid shut down the Senate for (just) a couple of hours.

is ANYBODY 'really' listening/watching?!

I'm going to get ahold of Levin and Kilpatrick and bitch and bitch and then when i'm done bitching i'm going to bitch somemore.I suggest you all do the same and just keep at it until they have no choice but to take some kind of concrete action against these sluts.I don't think a national call off work week is out of the question either.I imagine if we could get enough people to do this we may be able to bring the entire country to a screeching halt, possibly most of the world.Anybody up for it?

With the kind of work the Congress is doing, the longer it's shut down, the better. I'm with Hastert on this one.

hey all,
the pay raise is a red herring. the reason lawmakers, in general, give themselves pay raises is to keep their pay scales in line with inflation (that's almost always the foundation of an argument in favor - it's actually an annual 'cost of living increase' that is automatic unless it's voted down). and each lawmaker represents around 600,000 constituents (not all voters, mind you). if you break it down, however, it means that in a year, each constituent is paying their representative roughly 27.5 cents (165,200/600,000). even if you take all of those ineligible to vote out of the equation, it's still significantly less than $1 a year.

moreover, democrats would have had to be complicit in this bit of pocket-stuffing in a vote that passed by an overwhelming 392-31. my guess is democrats are wagering the pay raise question is, as it always has been, a non-issue.

certainly there is something to the argument that we're still not getting our money's worth, though! And furthermore, the timing of this pay raise is horrible.

we should stick to the ridiculous lobbying situation and how some rep's are bought and paid for. the point is that our elections are bought and sold on a market where lobbyists are the stocktraders, legislators (and their votes) are the stock, and corporations, unions and lobbies are the stockholders.

a $3100 pay raise is chump change when a lobbyist can fill election coffers to the tune of several times that amount in any given week.

I guess this proves that the only good Repugnican is a dead Repugnican. This would apply to my family too. How can any right-thinking American think that the repugs are anything but a bunch of yellow-bellied crooks. Irag, economy - good going Bush Crime Family.
