That is why he said hire and intern. You know as in free. It is pretty easy to see that a racial slur or personal attack shouldn’t be allowed. We don’t need censorship. We need hate posts to be removed from the site.
You delete the comment, but leave the person’s name, so it is known that they posted an inappropreate comment. After somebody posts say 25 comments that are deleted, send them a warning e-mail that requires a response, that is how you validate an e-mail address. Then, if they continue then you should ban.
I did end up voting for you guys…it’s not your fault that psychos comment in here and the content is first rate. Good luck. And I agree with Spudge, numerous infractions should result in banning.

Moderating comments is a complete waste of time that could be better spent doinf content and research. As your traffic grows, just give some thought to shutting off comments altogether, except for certain instances when you have a guest poster looking for suggestions and dialogue, as you have done before. Most of the major right sites don’t have comments, like the Lil Perfessor, or Powertools. Billmon’s main page has no comments but you can comment at the sister site, Moon of Alabama. I’d just shut down the comments here, except in special cases and start a secondary page for all the trolls and hotheads who want to make a public spectacle of themselves.
Agreed, #16. We should never be like them. I notice some of Ryan Neat’s posts got dumped. I would rather skip over the trolls posts if it means editing our most logical posters.
Any way TP could start up Think Progress the B-list? where we could bash each other no-holds barred, blow off steam, and leave our serious comments back here. I thoroughly enjoy the bashing and can’t help but wonder what was said in all the deleted comments.

Yes I did and I responded to it. You said:

I responded with:
“Great idea KillCon 2006. Instead of getting rid of the trolls, we will get rid of comments.
/sarcasm=off”
And you are not one to be calling someone else a hothead, hothead.
Trolls are like little kids, the more attention you give them, the louder they get…just ignore them and stick to topic they will go away…I know we all for the trap, but if you respond to trolls, they win!!!
if they start debates and you want to debate ‘em fine…but time and time again it’s just opening up a can of worms that will digress into name calling…if they come out name calling, just ignore them
As I’ve said in other posts, I feel TP should be used for what the policy makers are doing and open a sister site to report pundits errors, wrong doings etc…that may help the troll infestation
I and all my dead relatives have voted for TP!
December 9th, 2005 at 12:09 pmLet’s show’em that we progressives can win an election this time!!!!!
December 9th, 2005 at 12:23 pmI don’t think I can vote for the “best”, thanks to all the trolls. The content is good, but the comments suck thanks to the idiots they let in here.
December 9th, 2005 at 12:51 pmI agree with #3. There is way too much bullying, sniping and viriol on this site.
I can’t in good conscience vote for a site that allows people to call each other Nazis and physically threaten each other.
Hire a intern and monitor the goddamn comments already.

December 9th, 2005 at 1:36 pmWell, Guess what? You CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH YOU MORONS!
Well I have voted TWICE for TP. Is Diebold running this?
December 9th, 2005 at 1:46 pmI already voted for you–no brainer. I love the setup and the delivery. Nice curve ball too.
And sheesh, not voting for a blog because of the comments is like not voting for a book because of its reviews. That’s just nutjob.

You didn’t read what I wrote, hothead.
December 9th, 2005 at 3:44 pmYou can never get rid of trolls, not without becoming just like them, or shooting them.
