“Another sign of the investigation’s toll on the White House operation is how much less Vice President Dick Cheney, 64, is seen and felt in the West Wing these days,” TIME Magazine reports.
Did anyone see the Hardball special last night on the leak case. I loved the interview with Cheney where he was asked about his statement that it was “pretty much confirmed” that Atta and Iraqi officials met in Prague. Cheney cuts her (Marie Smith, I think) off and says “I never said that.” The Hardball special immediately follows up with a clip from Meet the Press where Cheney says says in fact that such a meeting was “pretty much confirmed.” I love it when this jack*ss is exposed for his lies.
That Cheney is seen less in the White House does not indicate a lessening of his influence. Darth Vader is too integral to the entire admin. to be marginalized. Whether or not Bush has cooled to him doesn’t mean a thing — Bush will be marginalized first — and to a degree, he already has. He is the boy-king, given scripts to read, but unable to answer questions. He is the person sitting at the desk, but he’s little more than a figurehead.
this is not really news… this story (Cheney on the outs) has been printed numerous times before… reprint when there’s an actual development in the story…
Cheney and his homies had their own reasons to go to war in the Middle East. 9/11 just gave them an opportunity to put it in play quicker. The sad part is that some of those reasons were for financial gain of certain entities (individuals and corporations), not for national security.
But this shouldn’t absove Bush of any responsibility for doing the wrong thing. He too went into it for poor reasons that also didn’t invlove national security (oil, payback for daddy not doing the job, sucking up to Cheney and his crew of crazy neo-cons).
Dec. 12, 2005 — Surprising levels of optimism prevail in Iraq with living conditions improved, security more a national worry than a local one, and expectations for the future high.
…seven in 10 Iraqis say their own lives are going well, and nearly two-thirds expect things to improve in the year ahead.
Oppressed groups succeed because life is tougher for them in the jungle, and they develop skills others never find the need to use. And people respond, “Well, good for them – life is tough. It’s tough in the jungle for everyone.”
This is good news and reflective of all the good work that so many groups are doing including the AFL-CIO, Jobs with Justice, Wake Up Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart Watch. It’s no doubt this is why Wal-Mart is advertising about how their employees (ooops, associates) love their jobs and benefits.
#12 – Uh oh, the good news in Iraq sounds like bad news for the dems. Their opposition will come back to haunt in ‘06. Mark my word. Surprised ABC let anything good out though. Maybe they are finally seeing the light.

Has there ever been an Executive team more removed from the people? Take out the speeches in front of the military or fundraisers….does anyone remember the last time either Bush or Cheney made themselves available to the public? If we had a nuetral electoral system, these bastards couldn’t get away with the imperial inclinations that they govern by.
“Life would be easier if I were the dictator.” – GW Bush
The Republicans are very good at removing irritants from the public view when they realize it is impacting their agenda.
The best example is Newt, but there are many others.
This is simply a lowering of the profile and MSM will eat it up.
Here’s a better question, did Cheney violate the constitution by usurping his authority?
I’m no expert, but the only ennumerated authority I see is to preside over the Senate. Even there he has no right to influence outcomes unless there is a tie vote. Otherwise he is only granted authority if he assumes the position of president.
Section III
[4] The Vice-President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided.
Article II
Section I
[6] In case of the removal of the President from office, or of his death, resignation, or inability to discharge the powers and duties of the said office, the same shall devolve on the Vice-President, and the Congress may by law provide for the case of removal, death, resignation, or inability, both of the President and Vice-President, declaring what officer shall then act as President, and such officer shall act accordingly until the disability be removed or a President shall be elected
There’s other evidence of the United States’ increasing unpopularity: Two-thirds now oppose the presence of U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq, 14 points higher than in February 2004. Nearly six in 10 disapprove of how the United States has operated in Iraq since the war, and most of them disapprove strongly. And nearly half of Iraqis would like to see U.S. forces leave soon.
Judd was right, just because we have incestuous trolls repeating each others bullshit, doesn’t mean they amount to anything. It’s comical really. It reminds me of RedStain (redstate) where I swear those boys have 3 logons a piece and they just give each other little circle jerks under their different monikers. Turns out, it’s not circle jerk at all, just one jerk using both hands.
And not in a holier-than-thou platitude way. But in a way that well, finally, he gets to understand what it feels like to have been subjected to his torture (whether physical or financial or just a result of him opening his mouth)

December 12th, 2005 at 9:46 amThe whole article should be read. It’s about more than Cheney. It’s about Bush’s desperate attempts to find change without changing.
