On the heels of last month’s domestic spending bill defeat, CongressDaily (sub. req’d) has this news:
Negotiators seeking about $45 billion in five-year budget savings appear likely to drop proposed reductions in the federal food stamp program, with GOP opposition firming up as the Agriculture committees work to meet a $3 billion savings target.
They are also likely to drop House-passed welfare overhaul legislation, sources said. [...]
Frist declined to comment on other provisions, and final decisions will not be made until House-Senate negotiators meet this week. But sources said GOP leaders are leaning toward dropping House language trimming almost $700 million from food stamps.
How bad are those proposed cuts?
Joan Entmacher of the National Women’s Law Center called the welfare changes “the ugliest set of recommendations inflicted on low-income women and their families that…we have seen.” And the Congressional Budget Office estimates the House bill would cut food stamp benefits for 225,000 people and that “40,000 children would lose their eligibility for free meals at school.”
Eat it, GOP bitches, and start digging. Your gonna need some holes to hide in. Until we can bulldoze the dirt back in over you.

December 13th, 2005 at 11:44 amA “Christian conservative” relative of mine is finally figuring it out- they got cut out of Section 8, and the husband lost his psychotic meds.
I take every opportunity to remind them that they voted for this, so “don’t bitch to me”. And then I remind them what party set up Section 8 and Medicaid in the first place.

………..This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware of this boy(now listen up GOP)for on his brow I see that written which is DOOM….unless that writing be erased.
Ah, yes… those good Christian Neocons. They have the hotline to God, and Jesus got on the other God line and told them, “Hey, all that hippie type stuff I did and said about helping people… I was just kidding. Get your own and screw the poor and downtrodden and meek.”
December 13th, 2005 at 12:01 pmThese lunatics are truly Artifacts of the Past.
Researchers from Britain, France, Italy and the U.S. have been observing the 37-mile long fissure since it split open in September in the Afar desert and estimate it will take a million years to fully form into an ocean, said Dereje Ayalew, who leads the team of 18 scientists studying the phenomenon.
The fissure, now 13 feet wide, formed in just three weeks after a Sept. 14 earthquake in a barren region called Boina, some 621 miles north east of the capital, Addis Ababa, said Dereje.

Once again, if anyone out there who isn’t in the top 5% economic bracket still thinks the Bush Republicans have your best interests at heart, will this wake you up?

December 13th, 2005 at 12:20 pmI try to call the current admin of sociopaths “neocon”(et.al.), but to my knowledge they actually claim to be Republican (correct me if I’m wrong, please), AND the Republican Party accepts and claims them as thier own. Therefore, they ARE Republicans. Those few Republicans and Conservatives who still hold to their true principles and do not simply fall in step with King Bush either then must accept that the political party they support has changed its views and actions (and either fall in line, or stop trying to support it and change their political assosciation), or they can do something to clean up their party and bring it back to its original ideals, and remove the criminals. But because the GOP backs them, they ARE Republicans (who don’t favor tradition, as they have changed their party ideology and approach), and they should be called as such, and not neocon or any other euphamism that is an apology for the Republican party. The party has no apologies (pun intended). They made their bed and chose their partners… now lie in it (pun intended). They are all Republicans.
December 13th, 2005 at 12:20 pmAnd school children don’t need to eat anyway: the digestive process makes them too sleepy to concentrate on studying for half the school year in order to pass the barrage of standardized tests required by the Screw up the Children’s Education… I mean the No Child Left Behind Act. And if they eat, then they must… umm.. use the rest room. Well, that takes up time too. They need to be taking tests, tests, tests, so that they can prove that they have learned how to pass those tests (who cares whether they learned anything, right? It’s all about how the paperwork looks, not reality).

December 13th, 2005 at 12:33 pmcynicon, go far enough to the hard left and you get the hard right (that would be you). Politics is not a line with two ends, but a circle that meets – and you’re at the extremities…
Comment by Ryan Neat
Actually, it’s more of a spiral dynamics kind of thing, but until the rest of the slow pokes catch up, mostly conservatives, I’ll stick with my original (moderated) thesis.
The only good conservative is a “convicted and incarcerated” conservative. Or a conservative with a long list of convictions on Federal RICO statutes.
(But yes, three lefts make a right turn, and vice versa).
December 13th, 2005 at 12:40 pmI am not surprised that bushco pushes for the tax cuts. They really do think the rich are all that matter in the US and they are beholden to them (they are them). What I’m more surprised at (foolish of me, I know) is the congressional support for it. Especially in the House. Even though some districts are more wealthy than others, you would think that the population in the district might be able to exert some downward pressure on this Santa to the wealthy that bushco put’s forth. Where is that pressure? Why hasn’t it had much effect on these representatives?
Sure, in the past, DeLay and his goons would kneecap you if you didn’t walk their line. But now? He may think he still has it, we all can see it’s a facade now.
Maybe, just maybe some good will come of our not getting what we want. Maybe the people of said districts will finally boot their reverse Robin Hood congressional reps. Once again, that’s expecting an awful lot from an electorate that prefers to be oblivious and purposefully ignorant. It’s the American Way….
December 13th, 2005 at 1:11 pmkindness,
The tax cuts were disasterous for the economy:
http://www.epi.org/content.cfm/bp168
It’s because you don’t cut taxes on the wealthy while increasing it on the middle class when you want an economic boom, you do the opposite. It’s just idiocy, pure and simple.
December 13th, 2005 at 1:18 pmI’m with you there Ryan. I certainly wasn’t trying to defend this administrations financial priorities.

It’s our Godly, Christian duty to milk this system. As long as pukes like you are supporting any system, Jesus would want us to milk it like the fat cow that it is.

I tend to disagree with Jesus Jefferson Benavidez. I look forward to the day when you actually have to ask me for something to eat instead of a communist lawyer stealing half my paycheck in order to buy you a Big Mac.

Or have the prisons reached their maximum capacities?
And if they would rather die, then let them do so, and decrease the surplus population.
