I encourage everyone to go to the link above and thank them for their decision. They should be rewarded with our gratitude for their decision to say no to bigotry and hate.
Ford had the right idea in the 1980’s when quality was “Job 1″. Now, it’s a footnote. Advertising policy will not save them. They need a new CEO dedicated to solid engineering, not pithy costs. Their corporate mileage is in the low end of the industry. Reliability is at the absolute bottom – even below Kia.
I agree with Ryan Neat in that Ford was not publishing in gay-oriented magazines in order to “support the gay community” as much as it was to attract the business to make sales.
There may have been a little bit of the concept that “Ford advertises in gay-oriented publications to affirm they do not discriminate based on sexual orientation”, but I’m sure it was more a motive of profit than one of altruistic ideals. I could be wrong. (A sentiment that you rarely, if ever, hear from the extreme radical-right groups.)
No, of course it has nothing to do with outright support of the gay community. But what would we rather have, Ford kowtowing to radical religious fanatics, bigotry and hate, or continuing to advertise in any and all publications without prejudice?
I agree: it is much better for companies to advertise without regard to sexual orientation than it is for them to bow to the forces of bigotry. I just wish that they had the moral fortitude to have remained above this fray. Then it would not have become a rallying point for either side to continue throwing inflammatory charges at each other.
There is already enough hatred concerning this subject. I wish it weren’t escalating. What’s that about wishing in one hand and doing something else in the other? ;-)
Before I am accused of intolerance by having used the term “bigot” to describe thos with whom I disagree, the definition of “bigot†is:
“a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to their own opinions and prejudices”
While the Bible can be used to support this argument on both sides concerning homosexuality, one must agree that there are also verses that are completely ignored about such subjects as:
-Killing your children if they curse you.
-A woman is the property of her husband, and should not speak in church.
-God saying to dash the brains of babies on stones after a battle.
-Jackals having sex with their mouths and giving birth out their ears.
-Rabbits chewing their cud.
-Wine being good.
-Wine being bad.
Yes. I posted that they did the wrong
December 14th, 2005 at 7:23 pmthing before, so I will say they did
