#32 Actually there is more oil on Alaska’s North Slope, but it is harder to get and more expensive – therefore making less profit for the greedy oil companies as such unacceptable.

As best as I can tell, Sen. Stevens remains the most popular person in Alaska. Some call him “our best natural resource.” He also has been a consistent vote for working families and unions in Alaska.

I will always remember Ted Stevens at the Senate lectern, shaking in anger, yelling “NO!” when they wanted to take the $250,000,000.00 earmarked for construction of a bridge to an island populated by only 50 people, already served by a ferry, and use that money to help thousands of people who had lost their homes and livelihoods to the flooding from Hurricane Katrina.

This man has no soul. He is not a Christian. He must be loved by somebody, and he must feel love of sorts for his family, but otherwise he is dead inside. I feel sorry for him. He’s lost.

Myth: An overwhelming majority of Alaskans support drilling in the Arctic Refuge.

Fact: Statewide public opinion polls show Alaskans to be closely divided on this issue. In a recent poll, 45% of Alaskans agreed that “the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) should be protected from oil drilling” while 49% disagreed and 6% were neutral or didn’t know (Alaska Conservation Alliance, July 2000). In response to the statement “the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge should be protected from British Petroleum’s oil drilling and development plans,” 41% agreed, 43% disagreed and 16% were neutral; Alaska Conservation Alliance, November 1999).

Fact: Most Alaska residents polled in rural areas, Southeast Alaska, Fairbanks, Democrats, moderates, and women by a wide margin agree that the refuge should be protected from oil development (November 1999).

Fact: Alaskans pay no state sales tax or income tax. Every man, woman, and child in the state receives a check for about $2,000.00 each year for the state’s oil revenue chalked $128 billion “permanent fund.”

please correct me if I am wrong, but is he the ProTem leader of the Senate, and as such, third in line for the throne, sorry, Presidency? Doesn’t the ProTem come before the speaker of the House?

I would have thought the saddest day of his life might have been when his first wife, mother of his children, was killed in a plane crash.

Stevens on the floor of the Senate tonight was the height of gall. You really have to know his background to have fully appreciated it.
