Drudge’s Slime and Weave

Drudge’s Slime and Weave

Drudge yesterday:

Drudge today:

The entire controversy is about the Bush administration conducting warrantless surveillance of Americans. So Drudge doesn’t have a story left.

Of course, that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to push it.

would Drudge lie?…..not even a nice try you lockstep bushie robots. Impeach them all. this message approved by the NSA….maybe….later….kinda….no comment….

  2. Magnum DB says:

Well at least Drudge didn’t erase the past headline COMPLETELY. It’s in his archives! Oh wait… he doesn’t even OWN the archive site. Ok, so he IS a liar!

  3. Punchy says:

TP…no offense, but many of us really don’t care about what Drudge says. We already know he distorts everything in his favor…

Now, a much bigger story is the breaking Padilla story, in which Knuckledragger Justice Luttig–GASP!–just ripped the Bush Admin. for their treatment of the Padilla case. Not only is the rebuke itself news, but also who it’s coming from.

Please, less Drudge crap and more real news. Thanks.

  4. Judd says:

The problem is that this starts on drudge and gets quickly mainstreamed. TV producers are talking about it. Congress people are talking about it. We have to cut off misinformation at the source.

  5. dee gahl says:

It is so obvious that Drudge is a GOP robot. He will go weeks without covering any big political story but when the GOP is on the ropes, all of a sudden Drudge becomes this great investigative reporter. It is so transparent that he gets his marching orders from Mehlman and Rover.

    “Q Well –

“THE PRESIDENT: Hold on a second, please. There is the check of people being sworn to uphold the law, for starters. There is oversight. We’re talking to Congress all the time, and on this program, to suggest there’s unchecked power is not listening to what I’m telling you. I’m telling you, we have briefed the United States Congress on this program a dozen times.

“Q What limits do you –

“THE PRESIDENT: I just described limits on this particular program, Peter. And that’s what’s important for the American people to understand. I am doing what you expect me to do, and at the same time, safeguarding the civil liberties of the country.”

  7. The Gonzo Muckraker says:

I used to have a lot of respect for the Drudge-man. I even picked up on his fedora tip. Damnit. Don’t you just hate it when someone you respect and admire proves his or her humanity? Nobody is perfect … But this is outright misinformation.

His link has come off my blogroll. Shame.

  8. dee gahl says:

Judd is right. This allows the people on Fox to take this from the internet and put it on tv. Once it is on tv, the sunday shows will mention this in their lame attempt to be “fair”. Once it is out their, it is added to the argument. The argument then can become, “Clinton did the same thing, Bush can’t be impeached, the Dems are being hypocrites.”

  9. beep52 says:

re #4: “We have to cut off information at the source.”

I see no way to stop them (Drudge, O’Reily, Hannity, et. al) from making false claims, but if they could be systmatically and consitently discredited on every false count, eventually mainstreamers might pick up on the fact that they’re unreliable sources.

  10. JMohr says:

    1. Why not murder the despicable, tyranical slime that inhabits the right?

    2. Would such action not have avoided WWII with the assisination of Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo and their supporters?

    3. If the president is not bound by any law under the constitution, do not the citizens retain the right to over throw the dicatator?

The Bush line of reasoning justifying the war in Iraq, assumption of near dictatorial powers and usurpation of democractic processes could well lead to the kind of anarchy described above. When the rule of law is set to the side and when normative values governing the use of force are warped by those like Bush, then a precedent is set that could well lead to those kinds of actions. Note, that similar reasoning was set forth by extreme right wing Christians in their fight of a “just” war against abortion.

When the government justifies the “dis-appearing” of people, refuses to follow the Geneva accords, embraces pre-emptive military action and askews the rule of law for certain inherent, absolute powers. The Bush administration could well set the example for those who are violent to adopt similar action. Bush presents an imminent, clear and present danger to democracy and civil rest in this country. He must be arrested, impeached, tried before Congress and in the criminal courts and imprisoned for his crimes.

  11. beep52 says:

    correction: …cut off misinformation… (sorry)

  12. dee gahl says:

Yep, once it is in ANY news outlet, it allows the wackos (meaning Hannity) to act as if it is fact.

  13. MarcWW says:

I know this is totally off-subject, so please don’t get mad at me for this…I just went to the Drudge Report, and found an interesting link.

It seems that the Canadian Supreme Court ruled that the government there has no business outlawing consenting adults have sex behind locked doors at “on-premise” swingers clubs. The article said in part:

The judges said that just because most Canadians might disapprove of swingers’ clubs, this did not necessarily mean the establishments were socially dangerous.

“Attitudes in themselves are not crimes, however deviant they may be or disgusting they may appear,” the judges said, noting that no one had been pressured to have sex or had paid for sex in either of the cases.

“The autonomy and liberty of members of the public was not affected by unwanted confrontation with the sexual activity in question only those already disposed to this sort of sexual activity were allowed to participate and watch,” they said.

And in America it is totally permissable in some places to legally pack heat and shoot someone you “think” is “threatening” you (wink, wink)(Florida) without criminal penalties, but until recently could be prosecuted for selling or buying a dildo (Texas)! Jeez, Canada gets the whole “keep the government out of my bedroom” thing, why not here?

    Happy Holidays, Canada!

  16. Joe Sixpack says:

Poor Matt Drudge. As a raging homosexual, he must be feeling really frustrated. I mean, so full of loathing and self hatred.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but him being shunned and kept outside of the Republican mainstream because of his sexual preferences is really hateful. It must really irk Matt that the progressive folks on the left are the only ones who would allow him into their midst, so its no wonder he hates the dems so much.

Its OK, Matt. Like it or not, you have been out of the closet for several years now, and only the lefties here tolerant of your lifestyle. At least the progressives won’t put a stake thru your heart like the Pat Robertson crowd would.

  18. quicksand says:

Hmm, is this document fishy or what? When Rockefeller Warned of ‘Profound Oversight Issues’ he not only to hand write it by himself for the secrecy that the matter imposed and the Bush imposed, but used such language as not to leave much in the way of a clue as too what was being discuss with Cheney/Bush.

And Drudge want’s us to believe that a document from Clinton with‘Secret’ labelled on the top of it is the same damn thing? Not only is just too balant, but its like saying that all red cars are fast because my buddy’s dad’s Porsch has a red paint job.

But, of course, some non-pulsed righties will think this is a smoking gun of sometime, regardless of the issue – warrantless searches by the Executive branch with no oversite.

  19. big papa says:

Judd is right. This allows the people on Fox to take this from the internet and put it on tv.

    Comment by dee gahl

    dee #8,

The Fox Bushite propaganda network started out lying the minute the news Bushiva became a felon (for the umpteenth time)hit the airwaves. They (Foxites) regurgitated the “Clinton did it” inbred talking point from the jump. The best defense is an offense, so tell ‘em all how Clinton WON against Aldridge Aimes, the blind Sheik, Tim McVeigh et al. with a lot less bloodshed, lost treasure and loss of domestic and international standing; instead using good old fashioned hard work through LEGAL channels. You don’t win high profile legal cases with glaring, juicy (to defense lawyers) legal technicalities like “no warrant”.

How many cases has the Bushite junta dropped to date? Count ‘em inbreds…

  20. wisedup says:

  21. quicksand says:

Again, righties are committing the fallacy of equivication here. If Carter and Clinton were wrong going through and searching and survielling Americans WITHOUT court approval, then Bush is wrong of it too. (However, it appears that Carter and Clinton did not. Hell FISA was setup during Carter’s admin for chrissakes.)

Remember, that Bush so admitted that he did this unconstituional act. Bush apologists are playing right into our hands and agreeing with us.

  22. Tank says:

“Jeez, Canada gets the whole “keep the government out of my bedroom” thing, why not here?”

Probably best not mention the Canadians here. They are kind of the smoking gun in this whole “Clinton didn’t do that” story.

  29. Joe Sixpack says:

Andy in DE, wouldn’t be nice if the conservative side of life could get thru ONE DAY without bringing up Clinton or blaming Clinton for junior’s short comings? As a rightwinger myself, I have to admit that junior pales in comparrsion to Clinton. Like Bush’s IQ being a lousy 91 and Clinton being a genius at 183. I know it just pisses us conservatives off to no end to realize we have entrusted a complete imbecile like junior with our rights and our country, huh?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but everytime junior steps on his pecker, someone like Drudge, Hannity, or a Republican politician tries to thow up some kind of smoke screen. And talking about smokescreens what does your lame-assed horseshit about Alito in #23 have to do with the subject here?

  30. AZ_Squeegee says:

How can it be that this scandal is no longer considered important enough to carry on the front pages of the major news sites on the web. Don’t believe me? Go see. The funniest thing about this whole Drudge canard is that with ALL the investigations into Clinton, whitewater, christmas cards, travelgate, monica, sneezing without covering his mouth (okay I made that up)… do you think the Republican congress would not have jumped at the chance to impeach Clinton over illegal and unconstitutional spying of citizens?

Well Rightie’s? I wait for your answer, and when you try, please try to answer the question without some shift in focus or ad hominem. You won’t be able to, but give a try.

  52. Raymond B says:

This is a topic that must be discussed depending on your situation. It was reported by the ATF that 150 pounds of explosives are now missing in New Mexico. It has been advised that the explosive materials were stolen at an unknown time between Dec. 13 and Sunday Dec 18. Now lets talk about the question of protection. If you lived in this area how bad would you want persons of interest to be immediately wiretapped? Does Bush’ rush to tap policy seem so out of hand when a situation like this occurs, and you live right in the area?

yea, but he ok’d the tapping of quakers, environmentalists, peace activists, animal rights activists etc., not exactly violent terrorist types. who next? the sisters of the poor? political oponents?,journalists?
worst case scenarios applied to present everyday reality would keep you in your house under your bed 24/7/365 and for ex:the death penalty for littering.

  54. TJM says:

Ah, Raymond, if you’d stop and think for a second, you’d realize that there are avenues available to do just that. Legally. With a warrant. A court that’s open 24 hrs/day.

Which come to think of it every federal court is. I’ve had bankruptcy filings signed by the judge on Sunday night.

    Focus,Raymond,focus…………it can be done.

  55. JPark says:

    #154
Hmm, that sounds like probable cause. Do you think the government would have a problem getting a retroactive warrant 3 days after the fact? Because that is exactly what FISA allows. Of course there is NO court that would give Bushie a warrant to spy on Quakers or peace-loving Catholic high schoolers. And that is the point. He can easily get warrants on suspected terrorists. He cannot get them to spy on his political enemies. Therefore he broke the law to do it.

  56. SpudgeBoy says:

    #54

    Raymond B,

First off, 550 pounds of explosives were stolen.

Secondly, do you think that the person/s that stole the explosives stayed anywhere near where the explosives were stolen from?

Thirdly the bad guys had up to five days to get as far away from the explosives depot, do you think they are anywhere in New Mexico?

So, realizing that 550 pounds of explosives were stolen from New Mexico and in five dayperiod could have ended up anywhere, do you think the federal government should monitor everybody in the US?

Sh!t, in this one post, I have mentioned New Mexico and explosives over and over. Should I have an illegal wiretapped placed on me?
