“The image of N.S.A. has been muddied considerably by this revelation,” said Matthew M. Aid, an intelligence historian who is writing a multiple-volume history of the agency. Mr. Aid said several agency employees he spoke with on Friday were disturbed to learn of the special program, which was known to only a small number of officials. ‘All the N.S.A. people I’ve talked to think domestic surveillance is anathema,’ Mr. Aid said.”
Wow, honest people in the government. Must NOT be republicans.
December 22nd, 2005 at 10:57 amI give up, what the hell is: Anathema?
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:00 amAnathema:
One that is cursed or damned.
One that is greatly reviled, loathed, or shunned.

December 22nd, 2005 at 11:02 amInteresting take in the USAT. Article said that none of this could even go to court because it’s all so secretive. So, apparently, there’s this FISA law on the books, but no one can be prosecuted for breaking it b/c it’d require confidential intelligence to be publicized in court.
This floors me that Bush can simply say “sorry, everything I’ve done illegally is national security top-secret, so you’ll never get the evidence”. Incredible.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:03 amthanks for the chuckle, wisedup…nice to know i’m not alone…i was about to go to dictionary, com for that – thanks, Admin! (another site to bookmark also)
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:07 amwallybaby – andrew – what do you think about these traitors?
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:22 amSounds like in the 80s and Ollie North was up to his shenanigans. Most decent agents knew enough to stay far away from him and avoid knowledge of his operations. After Congress prohbited funding the Contras, he would ask other groups if he could use their secret bank accounts, they knew enough to say no.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:36 amAlso, this group of neocons thinks Ollie is hero, so it makes sense they would follow in his nefarious footsteps.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:36 amBushco screwed up the CIA with a B-team, now they want to make sure they’ve screwed up NSA?
Motto: Can’t have anything that works if it doesn’t work for us.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:38 amWow honest people in government.Must not be Republicans. Well moron did you forget about slick willie IIIIIIIIIII did not have sexual relations with that woman Monica L. are you that stupid? Oh sorry of course you are your a libertroll.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:45 am#10, That was a personnal matter that was only brought to light through a Civil Court, which the Republicans later found out that Clinton lied and committed purgery.
I am not saying that I support that and I wanted to see him Impeached because of the purgery. However, this is completely a different beast. It’s like comparing a tonka toy crash with the Columbia shuttle explosion.
Keep apples and apples not sunflower seads and watermellons.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:53 amLNM,
Yeah that’s EXACTLY the same thing – NOT. You’re such a tool.
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:37 pmI have an issue with the NSA being upset. First, someone from faux news was throwing around a figure of 18,000 phone taps earlier in the week. Second, I’ll concede the point that you might not know about the BushCo secret plan but, Third, if you’rs a spooke and handed a phone number to tap, you can’t tell a foreign phone number from a domestic phone number? Fourth, if it is a domestic number and it is taboo to listen you are aware of the law, did you bring it to someone’s attention?
Pleding ignorance only goes so far, then you are as corrupt as everyone else involved.
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:41 pmapparently blaming Clinton polls first with bushies with blaming the spy agencies a close second.
When do you blame the boss who ordered it? Ever?
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:45 pmAbsolutely kindness. To my point, someone at NSA should have blown the whistle 3 years ago. There is no honor in government or politics. People always speak up after the damage is done.

December 22nd, 2005 at 2:36 pmDavidB,
Remember that the NYTimes did get the story somehow, which probably means that someone at the NSA did exactly what you are saying they didn’t do. The NYTimes has kept this information secret for almost 2 years now, and only because Risen’s book is coming out in January, and they were going to get ’scooped’ by their own reported did they release the story.
December 22nd, 2005 at 3:13 pmliberal no more,
It was a blow job, get over it. Better yet, get a blow job. Then you might loosen up enough to realize what a tool you have been. There is still time to save your soul.
December 22nd, 2005 at 3:46 pmIs there anything the reactionaries can’t tie to/blame on Clinton? It’s like he has become some kind of mythical imaginary friend that they can blame for every mistake that they make. Juvenile and lazy.
December 22nd, 2005 at 4:12 pmThanks, I stand corrected Ryan.

kindness #14,
Be of good cheer. The reason we’ve learned about the Bushite scandals (everything from no-bid contracts to the surveillance inside the USA) is because of “insiders” who despise these criminal facists. career civil servants from the State Dept. to the CIA to the NSA are quitting and ratting these ratbastards out every chance they get.
There are American patriots throughout sensitive governmental positions, and they’re going to help bring this scum down!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanza, and whatever else your flavor might be.
