During his unsuccessful fight to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling, Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) displayed his acting chops as he nailed a full range of roles:
THE GRINCH: “I want you to know we’re going to be here until (New Years Day) … We’re going to stay here until this is finished. I can’t go home for Christmas. I’ve already canceled (airplane tickets).”
THE GODFATHER: “Every one of you, have you ever come as chairman of appropriations and tell me you needed help for your state and I have turned you down?”
DIRTY HARRY: “I’m going to go to every one of your states, and I’m going to tell them what you’ve done.”
EEYORE (OF WINNIE THE POOH): “This has been the saddest day of my life.”
If Stevens ever retires, he should really look into following in former Sen. Fred Thompson’s (R-TN) footsteps.
Eeyore may spell his own name Eor but he is always referred to as Eeyore in the books.
Not that I have any Eeyore toys in my cube at work or anything…

This Sen. is so sad, he makes you wonder about his voters jufgement!
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:12 amAhhhh… another corrupt politician pretending to support his constituents while lining his pockets with corporate money. Makes one feel warm during this Christmas season.
(Oops… I’m a liberal and shouldn’t use the word “Christmas.” I must reread the memo.)
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:13 amCorrupt politician with senile dementia.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:15 amI thought he was retiring! Do you mean to tell me he lied?
The only thing up with this old bastard is his 25+ year fight to open up Alaska for drilling, despite new information, despite new alternatives not available 25 years ago and certainly because of the 50% take for Alaska of the licensing fees the oil companies will pay. Do you think that’s it? Nothing but a dirty ol’ sellout whore. Detroying his beautiful state for a dollar. Should be in prison.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:16 amTed Stevens thinks the Gold Rush is still going on. You con.
You are mining the taxpayers of the country.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:18 amStevens: POOPY HEADS!!! *runs from the room sobbing*
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:24 amHe’s an insane little troll. I almost want to move to alaska just so I can vote against him.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:27 amOther days that MIGHT qualify as saddest….
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:28 am1) day his parents died
2) day his dog died
3) ever hear of 9/11 (I thought that nothing could trump 9/11 for the cons, maybe money is more important)
Haha Eeyore… the first true Emo.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:30 amSaddest day? How about the day his first wife, Ann died in the plane crash that he survived? Saddest day. What a MORON. Retire you old fool.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:32 amNext time you libertrolls bitch about gas prices do us a favor and just cut your wrists.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:41 amEek! Spiderman looks a tad overweight in that photo! I guess if he’s in business with Republicans, he can sit out “fighting crime’ since it is the criminals who employe him!
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:42 amI LOVE the gas prices! I wan’t em HIGER! This will force people to stop polluting and actually get down to running their cars off of alternate energy. Like corn oil – and yes I’m serious.
The only reason I’m ever upset about gas prices is because it reminds me of the BS war we’re in.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:45 amOkay, I promise I won’t complain that gas prices could be 1% cheaper.
Now how about closing that SUV loophole for a 20% savings?
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:45 amPar for the course.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:46 amFred Thompson is a decent actor. I don’t think he would appreciate being lumped together with Ted Stevens who would have trouble getting a speaking role in a high school play.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:52 amIts a shame he didn’t resign after that “bridge to nowhere” incident.
December 22nd, 2005 at 11:57 amI thought Halloween was over.
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:10 pmFred Thompson is an honest actor , Stevens can never achieve that unless he plays the part he likes best of corrupt , mean spirited politician .He’ll find his parts in his prefered lit. Charles Dickens .
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:13 pm#12, First, we have plenty of OIL of our own so we don’t need to be over in Iraq taking theirs.
I know for a fact that we do because my Step Father used to work on a oil rig and all they did was drill and cap in the ocean. So we have plenty of oil that we have not even pumped out yet.
Finally, there is no reason that the oil surges that high and fluctuates that much. It is only a means by which the OIL companies can rob from us. I wish that the government would take and place more control on these oil companies to prevent them from robbing the American people.
I am not against any company from making profits, but when they do it with a product that the country relies upon to live and they raise prices soley to make money, then I have a problem with that.
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:13 pmSTEVENS most valued part is in the book he wrote : The bridge to nowhere .
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:15 pmStevens is such a tool and after reading some of his comments, a real good argument FOR abortion. Can’t the people of Alaska do better than the likes of him?
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:26 pmTed Stevens said that he was saying ‘goodbye’ to the Senate after his pet project of drilling for oil in ANWR was shot down.
Let us all encourage him to say goodbye and ask him to resign.
Give his office a call and say Hasta La Vista, Teddy.

Comment by liberal no more — December 22, 2005
Clearer liberal no more:” ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…”
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:50 pmSays volumes about people in Alaska if they keep sending this asshat to represent them.
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:53 pm14- Agreed. If higher gas prices get people to think about consumption, great. And our prices are still dirt cheap compared to Europe and Japan. We should have learned our lesson in the ’70s. Somewhere Santayana is howling in laughter.
December 22nd, 2005 at 12:57 pmAnd the hypocracy was just too much. All the repubs do is attack the dems with ridiculous arguments over and over. Bush the “Uniter” is about the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
December 22nd, 2005 at 1:01 pmStevens should have left after that embarrassing senate floor performance over the bridge to nowhere. Such people have no business representing anyone in a democracy. Perhaps he could find a more appropriate home in the mafia.
December 22nd, 2005 at 1:18 pmThank God ANWAR got shot down. Possibly the only enviromental victory we will see under this Administration. Why do republicans hate Mother Earth so much?
December 22nd, 2005 at 1:35 pm#27 Yeah, and we in Europe and Japan have a lot of taxes on oil, too. But we learned to design more fuel efficient vehicles, and we use a lot more the public transport since the 70s. But, what happened with USA? Their successive GOPs, trusting in their military and economic dominion over oil pruducer countries, keep their oil cheap. Well, nowadays, USA has a big problem: the oil income is no longer secured, there are far bigger consumption in the world, new key players (India, China), and the USA is falling far behind in oil efficient technology, because nobody is used to higher prices, and keep enjoying their SUVs, calling names to foreign cheap efficient cars, and trusting in the GOP taking action on “countries no longer friends”, to have cheap oil, while walking away from the Tokio Treaty and derivates.
Sorry, pals, but if you, the people of the USA, don’t take care of this course of action, the USA GOP will be playing bully to too many countries in the near future, and you know that Iraq (22 milion people, empoverished) is a true economic problem. Don’t let Bushites ruin your country, and ours.
Thanks.
December 22nd, 2005 at 1:37 pmHow can you all ignore his pain? This man needs a big hug,
or maybe a nice floral arrangement or fruit basket to brighten his day.

I thought Ted Stevens was playing a role all along: The part of the stiff crusty old turd that refuses to be flushed down the toilet.
December 22nd, 2005 at 1:43 pmI see the neocons are whining about gas prices.
As usual they are clueless because they operate in a fact-free environment.
ANWR has 6 months of hi-sulfur heavy crude in it. 6 months worth. And it is expensive to extract and refine.
We could do better just by making all the neocons stop buying fat ass suv’s and trucks they don’t really need.
December 22nd, 2005 at 3:36 pmWhatever the old coot has been drinking, I don’t want any of it.
December 22nd, 2005 at 4:50 pmTed Stevens is one of the most corrupt politicians in the Senate today. I would have thought the day that his first wife, mother of his children, died in a plane crash would have been the saddest day of his life. His constituents now say that he isn’t interested in listening to them.
Read up on him:

December 23rd, 2005 at 12:35 amMy question as always is if we are so low on oil why are we not spending money looking for alternatives to oil? But I forget logic doesn’t apply to the person who wants the bridge to nowhere.
December 23rd, 2005 at 1:22 amYou all totally silenced “Liberal No More”. He thought he was making a good point with his comment #12. You slammed the door shut right in his little sheep-nose. I love you guys! Remember, Osama luvs yer Hummer!
December 23rd, 2005 at 12:23 pmMaybe Teddy Boy can get a gig in a geri joint reading “Gushers I Have Known” to terminal oilmen.
December 25th, 2005 at 1:39 amMerry Christmas! From the trolls…
