If you don’t like the facts…

By Site Admin on Dec 27th, 2005 at 10:42 pm

If you don’t like the facts…

make stuff up. New television ads by a right-wing advocacy group claim: “Newly found Iraqi documents show that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, including anthrax and mustard gas, and had ‘extensive ties’ to al Qaeda. The discoveries are being covered up by those ‘willing to undermine support for the war on terrorism to selfishly advance their shameless political ambitions.’” (Via Atrios)

I haven’t seen or heard these ads. I suspect these neocons know that Illinoians aren’t stupid enough to fall for their bullshit.

Bet its workin over der in dem trailer parks though.

  3. Marie says:

Let’s see — in the face of incontrovertible facts, Bush&Co had to admit that there is no connection between Hussein and AlQaeda. So, they work a deal with a SwiftBoat wannabe group: the pro-Bush public relations group will resurrect the pro-war lies and fabrications, they will deny affiliation with the White House or the RNC, and they will buy time on cable news. While the news outlets may not “buy” their story, they will play and replay the “renegade” ads and the desired result will be effected.
In the broader picture, the public will be even more cynical and unwilling to accept legitimate “news,” much less invest the effort required to find the truth, thus helping to fulfill an even more sinister goal by the fascists currently in power in the White House, who will continue their methods of disinformation, misinformation and outright lies.
And I thought the 60’s and 70’s brought us corrupt government — they were salad days compared to this corrupt administration.

  4. Marie says:

Susan, I just read about this in the Wall Street Journal.

Funny how the words of Mein Kampf have become the play book for the Neo-cons.

  6. lickspittle says:

Impeachment-so close yet so far away. Bush is the worst thing to happen to this country since the Vietnam War. His policies have killed and injured many people, and not just in Iraq. How dare he cut Medicare and Medicaid and yet give tax breaks to the wealthy? We must take back our country somehow. Where is the media? The outrage? No one seems to give a damn. Where’s Hinckley when you need him?

  7. MichDem says:

These ads appear just as fake as SNL comercial parodies .

  8. Susan says:

Keep your head up lickspittle, The Rove indictments are just around the corner. The longer it takes the more I believe that Cheney’s going down with the pudgy little foo-foo.

  9. Marie says:

Susan, I hope with all my might that your predictions are right. I want them to fall like dominoes. One by one, crashing down on one another.

  10. Susan says:

Marie, if Fitz can take out the head honcho’s Bubble boy is done. No need for impeachment hearings.

As for the 06 and 08 elections, many of our nemmisses will be on trial or serving time.

    Merry Fitzmas!

  11. Geoff says:

Haven’t seen those ads in Austin — are they being carefully targeted at swing districts or something?

  12. Better Dead than Red...state says:

I would imagine these ads are being shown to the “true believers” (like the trolls that hang around here) so they have lies to spread. Also, to shore up the conservative base that Bush is losing. Even the believers are becoming doubting Thomases. They are probably running these ads in Texas and Alabama and other red state hell holes- oops,I mean bastions.
They know with this latest spy scandal Bush is heading to poll numbers in the low 30’s. Time to distract! Time to obfuscate! Time to lie!
Speaking of which where are the trolls?

  13. lickspittle says:

Yes, Sue, I can hardly wait for the Rove indictments. It will be one of the best things to happen to the American people in 5 years. His ineptness knows to bounds. And he can take the rest of his bumbling idiots with him Why to I have to go to bed so pissed off about politics. I survived Eisenhower and all the way down. The Kennedy killings, Dr. King, etc. these Bush are the worst bunch I have seen.

  14. Susan says:

A history lesson for the mentally impaired.

    Lesson 1. Ronald Reagan

Ronald Wilson Reagan the 40th President of the United States
    (1981–1989)

In 1980, George H.W. Bush ran for President, losing the Republican Party nomination to Ronald Reagan, the former Governor of California. After some preliminary discussion of choosing former President Gerald Ford as his running mate, Reagan selected George H.W. Bush as his Vice President, placing him on the winning Republican Presidential ticket of 1980.

Reagan’s presidency and gave the Republican Party a majority for the first time in 28 years,

Initially neutral, the Reagan administration increasingly became involved in the Iran-Iraq War. At various times, the administration supported both nations, but mainly sided with Iraq, believing that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was less of a threat to the stability of the region than Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini.

The U.S. also provided intelligence information and financial assistance to the Iraqi military regime. The administration also allowed the shipment of “dual use” materials, that could be used for chemical and biological weapons, which Iraq claimed were required for agriculture, medical research, and other civilian purposes, but which were diverted to use in Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction programs. After Saddam Hussein used the “dual use” materials to gas the Kurds in Halabja in 1988, the Reagan administration continued to supply nerve gas and technology.

On March 16, 1988 Iraqi troops, attempting to crush a Kurdish uprising in the Al-Anfal Campaign, allegedly attacked the Kurdish town of Halabjah with a mix of poison gas and nerve agents, perhaps killing around five thousand people, mostly civilians. This action was not condemned at the time. Saddam’s regime claimed at the time that Iran was responsible for that and some other chemical attacks, a claim that is largely supported by the evidence gathered by international observers and accepted by most governments.

    What have we learned?

    1. Ronald Reagan and GHW Bush supplied Saddam Hussien with chemical and biological weapons during the time Hussien is accused of gasing Kurds.

    2. The deaths of the Kurds at the time were of no concern to Reagan and Bush.

    3. Most Governments and International Observers support Saddam Hussiens claim that Iran was responsible for gasing the Kurds.

  15. Susan says:

    Lesson 2. George H.W. Bush

George Herbert Walker Bush was the 41st President of the United States (1989–1993).

As President, Bush is perhaps best known for leading the United Nations coalition in the 1990–1991 Gulf War despite his strong support for Saddam Hussein’s regime against Congress over the latter’s response to the Halabja affair, when he was Vice President and in his early days as President. In 1990, led by Saddam Hussein, Iraq invaded its oil-rich neighbor to the south, Kuwait. The broad coalition sought to remove Iraqi forces from Kuwait and ensure that Iraq did not invade Saudi Arabia. Bush’s position was summed up succinctly when he said, “This aggression will not stand,” and “this is not a war for oil. This is war against aggression.”

In a foreign policy move that would later be questioned, President Bush achieved his stated objectives of liberating Kuwait and forcing Iraqi withdrawal, then ordered a cessation of combat operations —allowing Saddam Hussein to stay in power. His Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney noted that invading the country would get the United States “bogged down in the quagmire inside Iraq.” Bush later explained that he did not give the order to overthrow the Iraqi government because it would have “incurred incalculable human and political costs… We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq”. In explaining to Gulf War veterans why he chose not to pursue the war further, he said, “whose life would be on my hands as the commander-in-chief because I, unilaterally, went beyond the international law, went beyond the stated mission, and said we’re going to show our macho? We’re going into Baghdad. We’re going to be an occupying power — America in an Arab land — with no allies at our side. It would have been disastrous.”

    What have we learned?

    1. George H.W. Bush allowed Saddam Hussien to remain in power, never accusing him of killing thousands of Kurds.

    2. George H.W. Bush acknowledges that invading Iraq would be against international law and disastrous.

    3. Weapons of Mass Destruction we’re given to Saddam Hussien in the 1980’s by the Reagan Administration. Since then no nation or government has accused Saddam of possessing WMD’s.

    4. George W. Bush has lied repeatedly to the American People and must be held accountable.

  16. Gary Ruppert says:

Those ads are 100% true, and it’s about time they’re being put out.

It’s a shame the White House isn’t directly making that case.

Because they know they would be the laughing stock of the International political community.

This proves that Republicans believe that Americans are stupid!

If this isn’t the stupidest thing the Repo’s have tried! Truly… Even the conservatives should be disgusted at this (especially since it’s aimed at them, they now have to choose whether to believe Bush, or believe this!) LOL I’ll post the first part

    gary ruppert-
you can’t be that stupid to believe this can you? president bush said outloud to press and reporters, “we have found no connection with saddam and al-queda”. the only wmd’s that were found in iraq were the one we sold to him to fight iran back in the 80’s and the ones we dropped from our planes.
you and your ilk prove that this administrations propaganda really did work. stupid people still want to believe our government would have never lied to its people. WAKE UP.
bush is going to say the same thing about iran. are you going to believe him? if you do please enlist so my kids don’t have to fight and die for lies. thanks

  21. mparker says:

All the old lies are born again? Now, after All have been thouroughly debunked. That’s the best they have? Watch as Bush and his trolls go from one unsupported lie to the next. The windmill effect. Not allowing any honest discussion of anything. Denial and lies and then lets move along just like the trolls here. Substitute the word “lie” for “reality” and it works.

“We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’r studying that reality -juducioulsly, as you will – we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”

The trolls should study the fall of the Roman Empire because it’s going to happen here. It’s truly amazing that there are people that really believe that they can control the world when history proves the opposite.

The only way to stop this impending disaster is to change who serves in Congress. Election ‘06 is extremely important to the survival of our democracy and the rule of law – the US Constitution. You know, the one that GWB says is nothing more than a “g**damn piece of paper”. Those who run to oppose the current Congress members can always state that the incumbant did nothing to save our democracy, the incumbant allowed the lies to continue and did nothing to benefit the American people. No one is talking about the elephant in the living room, you know, the one that is moving jobs overseas and bankrupting familes. It’s known as health care.

2000+ years of WAR, and the ‘Intelligent genius Elitists’ still havent learned to live together, still they cling to empiricist ways, Under the Guise of Enterprise, Capitalism, or Globalization, under the Banner of World Peace, while in my neighborhood and yours, we seem to get along quite well.
Why is it that these people still follow such Old Ways, that live safely behind guards, security and paranoia?
How can these “leaders”, Self Isolated, people be so far out of Touch? Cant they see that their Policies of World Globilization, hegemony, and Rapid Democritization breeds Terrorism?

Ah, this must be the U.S. version of that CRAP they put in the Iraqi newspapers. I was only a matter of time before they sold their garbage to the nation as a whole…

Actually, come to think of it, Bush has done this before. Let’s see, there was:

    “WMD’s in Iraq”
    “Al-Qaeda has connectgions to Iraq”
    “WMD’s in Iraq”
    “Something about uranium enrichment”
    “WMD’s in Iraq”
    “Sadaam’s a menace to society”

OH, yeah, there was also “WMD’s in Iraq”
