American Progress President (and ThinkProgress blogger) John Podesta squares off with Chris Matthews tommorow on Abramoff and domestic spying. 5PM EST on MSNBC.
“squares off” indicates they’re ready to fight it out but with such a prominent liberal guest, the only thing Matthews will be fighting is his desire to give Podesta a gret big wet kiss and a “Love you, Man!!” chest-bump hug.
Just because they’re both making fists, don’t assume they’re going to fight….
I hope that Podesta will attempt to refute Matthews’ claim that the Abramoff scandal is not a big deal and will soon blow over. I also hope that Podesta can also put aside Matthews’ assertion that this is a bi-partisan issue and that any money that was given to Democrats was on behalf of Abramoff’s clients and that Abramoff himself gave $127,000 to Republicans and not one dime to Democrats.
I will be sure to watch:
Chris Matthews, the guy who criticizes the Abramoff cronies, but neglects to mention his own association with the criminal.
March 5, 2003 Chris Matthews helped put on an event benefiting the “Capital Athletic Foundation”… to raise about $300,000 for the Capital Athletic Foundation….
Fox News Channel’s Tony Snow is master of ceremonies, and Fox’s Brit Hume and MSNBC’s Chris Matthews are aboard.
(Daily Kos)
Absolutely, Marie, Chris Matthews has no credibility on the Abramoff issue. Can we all say conflict of interest? He was on his show the other day calling this guy “satan.” Losing his nerve, he is.
“We will do whatever it takes in the war on terrorâ€
This is an un-American argument that spirals into treachery. Those that espouse such an argument are un-American and are caressing treason. Those that consent to fear as their guiding rule are un-American. Only cowards fear death over liberty.
Spudge_boy, trying to talk facts to GR is like trying to talk facts to a politician. If the facts don’t support their pre-concieved perception, then they don’t exist.
Will John address the fact that 40 Democrat senators took money from Abramoff and Abramoff’s clients?
Comment by Gary Ruppert — January 5, 2006 @ 3:10 pm
Of those 40, how many took money just from Abramoff’s clients (not necessairly illegal in and of itself), how many just from Abramoff (of questionable legality depending on the purpose) and how many took money from both?
#18 MichDem
I vote for Darrell Hammond being funnier. I love it when he says things like, “Excuse me while I go outside and shout at some passing cars.”
Matthews admitted that sometimes, when he’s not really into doing what he’s supposed to do, he finds himself imitating Hammond’s impersonation of him. I think that’s one reason why Hammond’s impression seems so dead on, because Matthews does Hammond doing him.
I guess Mr. Ruppert is still gathering data on those 40 Democrat senators he says took money from Abramoff and his clients.
Either that or it wasn’t true in the first place. I don’t know because I never heard that stat before he brought it up. I know that some did, but I never heard that it was as many as 40 Democrats. Why would they do that when everyone knew the Dems were rather powerless compared to the Republicans to help very many people?
It doesn’t make sense. If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit. Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, I rest my case.
Should be interesting watching. I agree with #23, I hadn’t heard the number 40, for Democrats involved. I suppose it could be, if you include anyone who took as much as a $1 from Abramoff’s clients.
As far as this blowing over, not according to alot of prominent people who are in government now or have been. Even veteran news people are commenting on the biggest scandal of the century. I think, we can safely call this the “Tsunami of Capitol Hill”
Come on people. It’s like the three stooges, except there’ll only be two.
Aren’t you tired yet of the bs from DC. How can any of you who go on and on about the Republicans think the Democrats in power like Podesta are any different. It’s laughable. Really. I’m a left progressive. You guys are not even liberal. You are neo-cons. No wonder I find your blogging insipid and self-congratulatory. You’re not interested in the truth or reasoned debate, you’re’ interested in the Democratic party getting control again and then we’ll have the same old globalization neocon nonsense we have now, only
it will have a sugar coating, and a nice smile to go along with it.

AS usual when someone doesn’t like the Democrats you call them a troll. Rather than debate the issues you dismiss people by calling them trolls. You think you are a “liberal” but you are a neocon liberal who believes the Democrats are going to turn things around. And they won’t. We’ve had 100 years of US imperialism and it has never diminished one whit under the Democrats. The Republicans have a greater taste for dictators but the Democrats like them alright too.

January 5th, 2006 at 4:29 pmMatthews is on at 5:00 and at 7:00. Are both shows the same, or is the 7:00pm show different with different guests?
