“DeLay told the Chronicle Saturday that in recent days he discussed his situation with GOP leaders, including Hastert, and considered several options, including resigning from Congress. In the end he decided against quitting Congress because ‘I still have a lot to contribute to the Houston-Galveston area.’”
Darn.
January 7th, 2006 at 11:28 pmIn trying to think what he could contribute to the Houston-Galveston area, the only thing I could come up with was a democratic victory in November.
January 7th, 2006 at 11:29 pm#2,
Oh, that is very good and snarky.
January 7th, 2006 at 11:36 pmThat would indeed be a fitting finale.
Resign, defeated, imprisoned, whatever… we’ll soon be well rid of him.
Hastert has got to go too. So does Blunt.
Anyone heard anything more about Sweeney calling for elections for Speaker and all other house leadership positions? Anyone jumping on board with him? The guys is bad news but he right that the entire leadership crew has got to go.
January 7th, 2006 at 11:43 pmI hope he is embarrassed by voters the next time he runs for office. Oh wait — that’s why he wants to stay in Congress — to make sure he controls the votes in Texas.
January 7th, 2006 at 11:47 pmOh, Just Think of What Could Have Been…
Well, I guess the satisfaction of seeing him lose in November will have to suffice….
January 7th, 2006 at 11:49 pm“A lot to contribute”? Somehow that sounds like a threat.
January 7th, 2006 at 11:50 pmBut he may have been thinking the Houston-Galveston has a lot more to contribute to him.
No, we WANT him in Congress. Who’s gunna follow his REPUBLICAN trial if he’s no longer a member? We NEED his sorry ass to be a REPUBLICAN representative when he’s tried for money laundering and later when he’s indicted for a myriad of JA-related charges. Although he’s a repugnant, arrogant POS, we need his stench to spread onto all the others, making them all look crooked…
January 7th, 2006 at 11:54 pmIt’s nice to see that Tom DeLay won’t let the frivilous charges drive him from office.
For one thing, the Republican party needs strong leaders like Tom DeLay to fight back against the Democrats, a party lead by people like Howard Dean.
Funny Dean Fact: He appointed that judge in Vermont who sentenced a kidraper to 60 days in jail.
January 8th, 2006 at 12:30 amHe has about as much to contribute to the area as the famous Galveston Hurricane did.
January 8th, 2006 at 12:34 amGary, you Republicans are shaking so much from fear that you’re not making any sense. We’ll let the voters decide.
January 8th, 2006 at 12:36 amI’m not scared. The Republicans will win seats in the 2006 elections. 10 in the House. 5 in the Senate.
January 8th, 2006 at 12:39 amI hope the American people aren’t that dumb Gary. Republican rule over this country has given the nation the shaft. I can’t believe the people are going to ask for the beating to continue.
January 8th, 2006 at 12:44 amLiberals think Americans are stupid.
And for some reason, they expect that if they point that out, it will help them get votes.
The fact is that only polls which have extremely slanted samples (such as the last AP poll, which has a sample of 52% Democrats/40% Republicans) show the Dems having any real popularity.
What does your party stand for?
Does your party have any ideas yet?
Or will it refry the same old failed liberal ideas?
January 8th, 2006 at 12:48 amSince when has he cared about the Houston-Galveston area?
January 8th, 2006 at 12:53 amBesides now?
It’s nice to see that Tom DeLay won’t let the frivilous charges drive him from office.
Comment by Gary Ruppert — January 8, 2006 @ 12:30 am
I think you mean frivolous.
You must have a vey short memory span, since you cannot recall the three rebukes Tome DeLay received from the House Ethics Commitee.
You also have forgotten Delay’s indictment is for conspiring to inject illegal contributions in the Texas 2002 state elections.
None of these are charges “frivilous”.
Funny Dean Fact: He appointed that judge in Vermont who sentenced a kidraper to 60 days in jail.
Funny counter-fact: Your “fact” is inconsequential in a thread about Tom Delay considering resignation from Congress. Stop trying to change the subject.
January 8th, 2006 at 12:56 amMan it must be tough to see:
1) DeLay go down as leader
2) Chimpy get called a law-breaker
3) Abramoff threaten the entire K-street
project
4) Cunningham wear a wire
Maybe you wing-nuts should think about supporting
January 8th, 2006 at 12:57 ampeople who are not criminals.
Just a thought, but it might help with that
“we are so much better than everyone else” mantra
you guys love so much.
1) DeLay go down as leader
Go down only due to a leftist vendetta and absurd charges.
2) Chimpy get called a law-breaker
The person who leaked the information is the criminal. Weird how the person who leaked Plame’s name is bad, and the person who leaked an actual secret is good.
3) Abramoff threaten the entire K-street project
There’s not really a big project by that name. It’s a media invention.
4) Cunningham wear a wire
That shows honesty and integrity on Cunningham’s part. He wanted to expose other lawbreakers with the proof needed to back it up.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:00 amThe Republicans will win seats in the 2006 elections. 10 in the House. 5 in the Senate.

What does your party stand for?
Comment by Gary Ruppert — January 8, 2006 @ 12:48 am
We are not all Democrats in this blog.
Does your party have any ideas yet?
Ditto
Or will it refry the same old failed liberal ideas?
I don’t know. Plus: Ditto.
You are so desperately trying to change the subject. Does it really hurt that much that Tom Delay got himself in a mess that led to his resignation from his position as Majority Leader?
January 8th, 2006 at 1:01 amDid you wing-nuts miss the lecture on
January 8th, 2006 at 1:02 amrule of law or do you just pretend?
Regardless of party, we need leaders who are the best of the best, who we are proud to vote for. I am so tired of trying to pick the lesser of the evils to put in office.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:04 amWhy does the wingnuttery continue
January 8th, 2006 at 1:04 amto support criminal behavior?
Have you no shame?
Tom DeLay isn’t in a mess, he’s the victim of Ronnie Earle throwing mud at him.
Let me restate another thing.
Does the Democrat Party have any ideas right now?
What does the Democrat party stand for?
Will the Democrat Party refry their old ideas?
The fact is that the Democrat Party is a party led by insane moonbats (in the House, Senate, and the DNC).
January 8th, 2006 at 1:06 amThe big challenge for the Corrupticons now is to find a strong replacement HML who isn’t also under investigation. Slim pickings.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:06 amI wonder if Abramoff wore a wire in the
January 8th, 2006 at 1:09 amlast year when he dealt with his
“dearest friend” Tom DeLay?
Ronnie may still prevail in Texas, but
Abramoff cooked DeLay’s goose.
Why support crooks wing-nuts?
Don’t you deserve better, or is being crooked
the only way you can win?
“Does the Democrat Party have any ideas right now?”
___
Actually, it’s a full-time job just trying to prevent the Republicans from dismantling democracy and undermining responsible government. That’s enough of an idea for the moment.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:10 amSo, how will the Democrats bring back responsible government?
Will they pass tax hikes on millions?
The fact is that Republican values build societies. Democrat values destroy societies.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:12 amDeLay will make a wonderful symbol
January 8th, 2006 at 1:13 amof GOP corruption in this election year.
It will be very nice to have hime around
along with Ney and the rest of the
neo-convicts. or maybe a better way to
put it would be future convicts, but
then “new” (neo) convicts works okay
too.
Gary, your naivete is enchanting — like a small, lost child.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:13 amSeems like republican values build corruption
January 8th, 2006 at 1:14 amfrom what I can see.
No, Republican values such as free speech, capitalism, Christianity, and small government allow for large amounts of freedom for everybody.
As for DeLay being corrupt, good luck with that lie. The fact is that DeLay has not and will not be convicted of anything.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:16 am#30 I think he means societies like Iraq and Afghanistan. You know, real showcases.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:18 amI’m beginning to think he wouldn’t know embarrassment shame or if it slapped him in the face.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:21 amWe keep saying how bad the other guy is, not how good our guy is. This makes no sense. The mudslinging persists, where we make unsubstantiated charges against those who we are opposed to and fail to sing the praises of those we support. When we praise, we present accomplishments that are difficult to attribute to specific parties or people, leaving us to wonder who or what really caused the good things to happen.
We are a nation divided 49 to 51 percent on almost everything.
January 8th, 2006 at 1:23 am“Republican values such as free speech, capitalism, Christianity, and small government”

Now, if only we could get the Republicans in THIS country to embrace these lofty values!

K Street Project Mission Statement
K Street Project is non-partisan research of political affiliation, employment background, and political donations of members in Washington DC’s premier lobbying firms, trade associations, and industries.
About Us
Working on the outside, Norquist accelerated what he calls the “K Street Project,” a database intended to track the party affiliation, Hill experience, and political giving of every lobbyist in town.
Welcome to the Machine
K Street Project spokesman Grover G. Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, fumed that the Glickman hiring was “a mistake. It’s goofy. It’s a studied insult.”(…)”The Democrats are terrified that our K Street Project is going to replicate the way that they behaved when they had the House and Senate,” says Norquist.
Going Left on K Street
Norquist’s weekly meetings between lobbyists and congressional staffers implementing the Gingrich-DeLay revolution were an extension of the permanent Republican government in Washington. He was also overseeing the K Street Project, a DeLay operation which ensures that only Republicans are hired for high-paying jobs on K Street—the D.C. strip of lobby shops, trade associations, and law firms. He was the most powerful policy advocate in Washington in 2001 and still is today.

Gary the community college loser…. you should have spent more on your education, you brainwashed idealogue with no balls…
Duke is a snitch… A SNITCH !!!!
January 8th, 2006 at 2:15 amJust read this entire thread. Fascinating. To Rupe: do you ever make the effort to think, and I mean really think, about what is going on in our country right now? Don’t you think that we need to do some serious housecleaning? Things are pretty screwed up when 70% of us think that we are headed in the wrong direction.
January 8th, 2006 at 2:19 amYou ask what we dems stand for. How’s this: we stand for exactly the opposite of everything that the emperor bush stands for. Pretty sad, but that’s the way it is after 5 years of this selfish, immoral administration.
No, Republican values such as free speech, capitalism, Christianity, and small government allow for large amounts of freedom for everybody
Comment by Gary Ruppert — January 8, 2006 @ 1:16 am
It was a juicy one. Nice shot RightPunch. I’ll have a go.
January 8th, 2006 at 2:34 amFree speech - we all probably have ancestors who died acquiring and protecting the right to free speech. It is the most powerful tool of the masses. We are pleased you agree it’s a right.
capitalism – you know that oldest profession, Gary, that’s capitalism. The left has no problem with capitalism, only its extremes.
Christianity - Tell it to Jimmy Carter.
Small government - small in the face of big soulless corporations. Huge in the face of two-bit tinhorn criminals like Saddam. He’s on trial for a massacre of 120 or so people. Was that worth all this. Many of the same people you preach to about the evils of Saddam are the same people who protested those atrocities at the time they were happening. Those protests fell on the deaf ears of the oppressors you now an apologist for.
Large amounts of freedom for all - sounds like you envision it being dolloped out with an ice cream ladle. A little pat of reward here, a little there.
Really funny considering all of the censorship on republican blogs
There’s a difference between someone’s actions on their site and Government action.
We’re the party that is against “political correctness”
the effort of republicans to squash all criticisms (like your efforts here), with intimidation lies, disinformation and propaganda.
I’m not intimidating, or lying, I am telling you the truth.
Corporate welfare, and vote buying isn’t capitalism, it’s cronyism.
Corporate Welfare is something that started under Democrats, and has been reduced under Republicans. As for vote buying, the only big vote buying in America is done by Democrats in West Virginia.
So you’re saying that you’ve lied to all of the republican Jews like the head of the GOP? Not surprising, lies seem to be the natural result of republican values and immorality.
Nah, they know that the values of Christianity are a big part of the Republican Party.
Christianity and Judaism have a lot of similar values too.
Small government wouldn’t include the largest budget increases in deficit of any modern president.
The Democrats want to whine about how Republicans “cut spending” and “raise spending”
You Democrats just hate our military and you all know that Bush is doing the best job possible.
Delay was already admonished 3 times for ethics violations (eg. corruption).
Admonishing is the smallest penalty that can be given. It’s like a verbal statement of “You probably didn’t do something right there”
A guy who took 2.4 million in bribes who pleaded out to multiple felonies demonstrates his INTEGRITY AND HONESTY ?? by RATTING out his fellow republicans ???
He realizes that he did the wrong thing and he wants to bring others to justice.
Spending within revenues is a good start.
BWA HA HA
You Democrats voted against a bill that would have helped to do exactly that. It’s called the Deficit Reduction Act. Instead you voted against reducing the deficit.
Spending 2 trillion dollars on a war of convenience that our grandchildren will have to be taxed to support seems much more irresponsible than taxing now
We did not start the War on Terror. You all need to realize that.
for current spending. It’s called ‘living within your means’, which a responsible person would understand.
So you would favor reducing the large amounts of social spending?
You do realize that our founding fathers were mostly ‘liberals’, including Jefferson who founded the Democratic party.
Leftists like you don’t support what Liberals supported.
Liberals in 1776 actually supported people having religion.
The left in 2006 is against all public displays of religion.
The Liberals in 1776 favored the right to bear arms.
The left in 2006 wants to confiscate all firearms.
Don’t you think that we need to do some serious housecleaning?
That housecleaning will be provided by the Republican Party, as your party is a soulless evil party without ideas.
Things are pretty screwed up when 70% of us think that we are headed in the wrong direction.
Yeah, and a good chunk of them feel this nation is going too far to the left.
You ask what we dems stand for. How’s this: we stand for exactly the opposite of everything that the emperor bush stands for.
That was your platform in 2002 and 2004, and you lost seats in Congress both times.
January 8th, 2006 at 2:53 amThe fact is that Republican values build societies.

[S]abotage and bad weather caused production levels to fall below the pre-war level of 1.6 million barrels over the past two months.
Iraq’s Oil Production Down; Oil Minister Quits
Fears of severe shortages, prompted by the closure of Iraq’s largest oil refinery, have led to long queues at petrol stations in Baghdad.
Minister goes in Iraq oil crisis
Under a mounting insurgent offensive against Iraq’s gasoline supply, the country’s largest fuel refinery sat idle Thursday. Gas station owners in surrounding communities in northern Iraq hung up their dry nozzles. A police chief put out a no-patrol order to his men to conserve fuel.
Attacks Halt Production At Iraq’s Largest Refinery
The American military body count in Thursday’s violence rose to 11, with officials adding four more deaths Friday to those killed in insurgent attacks in what has been one of the bloodiest stretches since the March 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq began.
U.S. toll climbs after day of attacks in Iraq
The United States on Friday played down a dramatic surge in violence in Iraq and said political progress would eventually defuse sectarian tensions.
US plays down threat of civil war in Iraq
In a second consecutive day of carnage in Iraq, a suicide bomber killed at least 51 people Thursday in the mostly Shi’ite Muslim city of Karbala, while another killed at least 67 people in the predominantly Sunni Muslim city of Ramadi.
Attacks on Shi’ites, Sunnis kill more than 100 in Iraq
US officials are increasingly concerned that the Iraqis lack sufficient funds to run the high-technology water and electric plants, among other projects, that have been built since 2003.
Iraq’s project costs may fall to US
The Bush administration has scaled back its ambitions to rebuild Iraq from the devastation wrought by war and dictatorship and does not intend to seek new funds for reconstruction, it emerged yesterday.
Bush pulls the plug on Iraq reconstruction
“It’s the worst health care system Iraq has ever known,” Dr. Waleed George, chief surgeon at Al-Sadoon Hospital in Baghdad, told the Times. “Imagine yourself trying to operate on a patient in a two-hour surgery and the power goes out,” George said. “You pray to God, and you sweat.”
Most Costs of Iraq War Remain Immeasurable
The reconstruction of Iraq has been hampered by a number of hurdles, including government bureaucracy, corruption, and security concerns, according to an October 30, 2005, report by the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR), an independent auditor.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is 2006. Not 2002. Not 2004,but 2006. It’s taken last year for millions of Americans to see the dark side of those you worship.
Crimes from cheating, lying, posting false info, illegal spying, hiring friends and friends of friends for jobs for which they have no experience (See Porter Goss and “Brownie”), hypocritcal family falues folks who write smutty novels about their own personal habits like Scooter, etc.
Oh, and there was this little thing called Hurricane Katrina that you might have heard of. But, don’t let me interfere with your hopes of a fake fantasy of sunshine and goodness. Go ahead m’man, shine it on with your bad self. You earned your right to project a sunny side, white picket fence, Country Time Lemonade, image of America which doesn’t fit in today’s real world, but you earned it.

Oh, and remember, 2006 won’t be like those two other years that you truly treasure so much. It’s the year of the end of a tyranny against America and Delay’s fall from grace is just the beginning.

Scary Pookbut,
CORRECTION:
Liberals KNOW right wing, inbred, Bushite traitors (that’d be you) are NOT American, and ARE definitely STOOOOPID!
Why?
You refuse to see that you’ve made a monumental mistake by voting for the criminal Bushite junta, that has proven catastrophic for the American poor/middle working class, innocent Iraqis, and future generations of America’s children.
Knowing this, you stubbornly cling to your support for these criminal right wing scumbag demons who have been anything BUT conservative, libertarian, small government, party of fiscal integrity and ethical responsibility, anti-imperialist, strict “Constitutional constructionist, American patriots…
In short, your blindness and hypocrisy make you anti-American traitors!
Why do you hate our way of life?
Why do you love Bushiva and L’il Dick et al more than your country?
Because you crave a king, a dictator, a Fuhrer, to keep you safe…
How many times a day do you pray to Bushiva and L’il Dick?
Are your fruit on their shrine in your living room fresh?

The ship in which Carl Denham and Ann Darrow find themselves in the film “King Kong†George W. Bush and Tom Delay too, find themselves steering toward that rocky and craggy shore of justice, on a Skull Island of their own making. In Anne E. Kornblut’s “Republicans dump Abramoff donations†Bush and DeLay and others are returning their ill-gotten gains to charities. Lobbyist Jack Abramoff’s indictments had spooked many Republicans who had association with him. Now that Abramoff is about to sing as part of his plea bargaining all the rats on that ship are strapping on their life jackets, cinching them on tight and ready to jump ship before it sinks to the bottom of deserving retribution. Although the article also stated that no charges have been brought against other lawmakers the very fact that Bush and Delay are incriminating themselves by publicly returning the donations should convince the American public that these men are more crooked than a T-Rex’s hind leg.
January 8th, 2006 at 4:24 pmYou guys are better men and women than I am for catering to Mr. Ruppert, bothering to expend energy into articulating bullet-proof rebuttals to someone who refers to the “Democrat Party.” My favorite oops is the “Christian values” of the Reps. currently represented by the Jewish Mr. Mehlman. Sure, Mehlman’s as much a jerk as the rest of them and sure, Mr. Ruppert could amend his ill-considered phraseology to “Judeo-Christian” or “I didn’t mean literally Christian” but he didn’t and it’s as good an emblem as any for the equally preposterous assertions he makes. What’s his problem? Denial, more willing to continue to make a fool of himself than admit he was quite the fool for presumably voting for Bush. Who knows, and other than himself, who really cares.
