#26: You say Bush is our 'leader' -- but he's not mine. As Edward Abbey said: "No man is wise enough to be another man's master. Each man's as good as the next -- if not a damn sight better." In my country the Constitution makes it clear (to me) that the Congress has the responsibility for the national defense and the general welfare, and the president and the executive branch executes (carries to completion) the people's decisions. The problem has been that, because of corporate financial influence, the Congress has been turned into a rubber-stamp for the president, and this would be as true for Clinton as for Bush. So good people die for nothing.

Number 6 post was informative. Thats why I like Teddy. Wise opinion about what America is about. Now we have an unwise coward as a leader. They don't make'em like they used to. Just hope and pray mankind can make it to Feb 2009. I hope we all don't perish because of "faulty intelligence". I'm not talking about the CIA for you Kool-Aid drinkers.

They died for a noble cause, as stated recently by Donald Rumsfeld: --"But what we're in is a global war on terror. It is a struggle in the Muslim religion between a small number of violent extremists who are determined to behead people and kill people and force the world to see things the way they see things, to try to reestablish a caliphate in the world, to overthrow moderate Muslim nations, to attack Western values and Western behavior and Western culture." --Damn, I can hardly sleep at night worrying about that caliphate that will tear up the Muslim world and take away our Coca-Cola and Big Macs.

We need to get out of Iraq now. Too many people are dying on both sides. There already is civil war and we Americans are fueling it. Innocent women and children are being slaughtered and the MSM are not even reporting it. The whole basis for war was built on lies and Bush & Co needs to be impeached for war crimes.

It's old news, people. It's just SO 2003. Remember when the first troops were getting killed by guerillas in summer 2003? It was BIG news, even if one soldier died. But now the media is bored with that movie, they want to change the channel, turn to the next NEW, BIG story. The same thing happened in Korea (they called it the "forgotten war").

A sad tale continues. Soldiers dying in Iraq because of belligerent, ignorant, greedy, oilmen in America.
Bush acknowledges the tragedy of the Saga mine, but he ignores the number of dead in Iraq.
He praises Ariel Sharon as a "good man" -- while he disrespects the good men he has sent to do his dirty work in Iraq.
I am waiting to hear a believable explanation why the kidnapping of the CSM journalist was held from the news for three days.
I am suspicious of everything I read, everything I hear, because the lies that have spewed from this administration, from the Pentagon, from the State Dept., and from the corporate media who support these criminals have destroyed any faith I had in my government.
Ask questions, and your patriotism is questioned, when in fact, those who do NOT question government should be held in question.

There’s also in intrepid American reporter whose life is in jeopardy right now. Let’s not forget about her.

Comment by ElectricBassPlayer #12

In the past, it appears that the resistance fighters in Iraq tend to release reporters who write articles "sympathetic to their cause"...

I suspect this young lady may be receiving some sort of briefing, or look behind the scenes from the perspective of the resistance fighters...IF she was in fact kidnapped by them. The "coalition' forces have not been above committing crimes against journalists who are "sympathetic" to the resistance- or who write the truth about the situation in Iraq (remember the attack on the hotel housing Al Jazeera by American troops, or Bushiva's "joke" to Tony Blair about bombing AJ in Kuwait?)

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she hadn't been kidnapped by CIA or American forces to be murdered, so they can blame the resistance, outrage the American people and bolster the now sagging support for the war...

Bushites are criminals...Believe it or Not!

What has happened since 911 is that Bush has glorified war and glorified dying for your country, even if the war is wrong, illegal or whatever.

The budget of the military services for glorification of war has increased 10 fold since 911.

#16 - I understand your feelings. I spent four years in the Army (86-90) and I've lost friends in the Gulf War and now in the Iraq War. Once the Republicans start questioning your patriotism when you question the war, it becomes a losing argument.

The arguments that I make are: You support the troops, how? By buying magnetic stickers made in China? Or by saying the words “I support the troops”?? How about making donations to the USO, or going to serve in the military, or buying protective armor for some soldiers, or attending the funerals of our fallen soldiers!!!

Hollow words mean little when we let the majority party run rough-shod over the right of the minority to question our leaders.

When did the Vietnam war end? April 30, 1975. When did Pres. Nixon resign? August 9, 1974.

It is so NOT wrong to talk about impeachment of a sitting president during a war!

To the families of those 28 soldiers.... my heart goes out to each and every one of you. This is the first war that I've been truly conscious of in my lifetime. Previous wars I was too young to really understand the tragedies of war. With each story of a soldiers death, my entire body has this feeling rush through it. Where I know I have to readjust once more, to handle yet even more deaths of US soldiers.

I can only imagine how much pain you must be going through, knowing that Bush really doesn't care about their lives no matter how much he pretends otherwise. How awful it must be to know that each day we're finding that they died for no real nobel cause, except for Bush and Cos ever changing agenda. To know that THESE 28 soldiers apparently died for a different reason that the first 28 soldiers, even though they were both fighting in the same war.

My heart goes out to ALL Americans who find themselves sitting helpless, watching the news come in again and again of another soldiers death, young men and women's lives dropping left and right. And there seems nothing we can do about it.

It had to take illegal wiretapping to really get congress worked up about Bush's wrong doing, not sending thousands of American soldiers to death deaths, and to become seriously and permanently injured for his personal reasons.

I don't want to think about the future, because I worry how much worse the damage will be. I'm not sure what else to say.

I’m not sure what else to say.

Where are the pictures of flag draped caskets when you need to see them? American's need to understand the real cost of Bush's adventurism. Thousands of Iraq and AMerican citizens!

I will just keep writing my alleged representative and demand that this illegal and immoral regim be removed.

Well, my hope is that all the chickenhawk saber rattlers who troll around websites will sign up and take the place of these brave soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice--for something (not sure what it is because the rationale from the powers-that-be keeps changing).

There's also in intrepid American reporter whose life is in jeopardy right now. Let's not forget about her.

I, for one, refuse to ascribe to the assertion that American soldiers somehow were "asking" for it by volunteering.

In some places it's still too unbelievable that an American president could be as rotten to the core as Bush is.

What is most sad is that now that blood has been spilt, an American cannot even question the war’s legitimacy without being called a treasonous scoundrel and then promptly accused of desecrating the soldier’s graves…

Comment by Dr. Strangelove #5

Strange,

One who does not question (as the Constitution requires us to do) is without a doubt "A TREASONOUS SCOUNDREL"...

The inbred Bushites are our enemies...

So why does the world stop when coal miners get killed and nobody notices when our soldiers die???

Well, simply put, though West Virginia is quite a haul from Colorado, Iraq is still a hell of a lot further. The major media in this country seems to have determined that we are all tired of hearing aboout the war. This is clearly a case of out-of-site, out-of-mind. On to the next tragedy.

So why does the world stop when coal miners get killed and nobody notices when our soldiers die??? Aren't they all Americans? Shouldn't we care more for the soldiers since they are over there in the hopes of protecting us and the people in Iraq? Why are we obsessed with such a narrow view of tragidy?
