President Bush, 1/13/06:
Iran, armed with a nuclear weapon, poses a grave threat to the security of the world.
President Bush 10/7/02:
Tonight I want to take a few minutes to discuss a grave threat to peace…The threat comes from Iraq…It is seeking nuclear weapons.

January 14th, 2006 at 1:59 pmGood. Maybe he’ll send his private army there where they’ll be smashed like wet turds.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:02 pmAnd here’s the real reason why Iran is on the list:

And here is why it is important:
http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CLA410A.html
January 14th, 2006 at 2:05 pmIran seems to be wanting nuclear power for energy and even if they want to build a N-bomb so what ..the world has to realise all nuclear bombs should be banned then i accept going into Iran..There was a certain amount of scaling down nuclear weapons until madman Bush got into power ..since then there has been a reversal on scaling down …America ban the bomb too and stop using it for bullying everyone …
January 14th, 2006 at 2:06 pm“It’s not about oil,it’s about terrrrus”…sure george.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:08 pmand even on fast track to make a bomb will takr five years where as north Korea has benn using uranium gas certifuges since 1997 …go for them first …But America only picks on weaker countries like Iraq that was NO THREAT …BLOODY COWARDS YOU AMERICANS REALLY ARE
January 14th, 2006 at 2:10 pmEasy Scotman
They real cowards here are about 30%, so tone it down here or f**k off somewhere else.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:14 pmUnfortunarely this tiome Bush is right However because he lied about Iraq no one believes him. Also Iran knows that we cannot do anything to deter their nuclear program, because our troops are stuck in Iraq.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:16 pmTerry,
January 14th, 2006 at 2:16 pmThanks for the links. Will all the things America wanted kill them? Big China? Fair EU oil prices? Microsoft censoring to protect foreign governments? All this time we could have been perfecting the perfect energy efficient society?
The freaks better believe in their own evolution because the Rapture ain’t comin’ for these quacks.
I appreciate the Scotsman’s comments for helping us Americans realize how much of the world sees us.
Thanks George Bush for making most of the world hate us and fear us more than the communist Chinese.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:17 pmWhy is it that all the people with the oil, or who want the oil, are always the crazy men who want to kill everyone too? Who will buy the oil if everyone is dead?
January 14th, 2006 at 2:18 pmYes Jeff,
Pu**yboy Bush has waisted two and a half years and all the resources for oil, while Iran and N. Korea have been busy bees. What else from the worst preident ever.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:19 pmIran’s current leader is there because spooked Iranians, who don’t even care for this guy, are afraid-
January 14th, 2006 at 2:19 pmIran was turning the corner and Condi and the criminals called them “Evil”. No shame. Only racism and hypocrisy.
Iran is going to be just like China. A capitalistic dictatorship. These are the monsters America created.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:22 pmIf he attacks them, I’m moving to Europe. And I’m not kidding.
How stupid does this man think we all are? I grew up in a family with decorated war heros who loved this country enough to give their lives to fight for it. But this is no longer that country. George Bush has assure that.
I’m a pacifist who is tired of signing Impeachment petitions… we need another Revolution.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:24 pmAgain Bubble boy is putting our troops at risk. Our troops are spent and weary and now they have to defend themselves against a couple of million more people that hate America.
Bush hates the troops.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:27 pmMy Canadian point of view…
Bush lied about Iraq, no doubt about it.
But this time it’s a little bit different.
We have a wacko who talks about destroying a neighbour country and perusing a nuclear program.
This time Europe is on the same page…
That’s the whole problem with Iraq, now that the threat is serious, Bush no longer have the credibility to address it.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:32 pmJudd took Bush’s words out of context, making it look like Iran HAS a nuclear weapon.
“Iran, armed with a nuclear weapon, poses a grave threat to the security of the world.”
This is what Bush actually said:
The U.N. Security Council is part of the diplomatic process, started by Germany, France, and Great Britain representing the interests of a lot of countries like ourself, which made it abundantly clear to the Iranians that the development of the know-how and our — a nuclear weapon was unacceptable. And the reason it’s unacceptable is because Iran, armed with a nuclear weapon, poses a grave threat to the security of the world.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:37 pmHello $100.00 barrels of oil.
Goodbye to the saggy Bush recovery in the economy.
-GSD
January 14th, 2006 at 2:40 pmHere we go again. Rhetoric redux.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:40 pmSoon, we will attack Iran (or Israel will and we will back them).
Another war for oil because the Texas oil boys have one-track minds. Money=oil — Oil=money.
Alternative energy? Certainly not in the Bush agenda.
(Underdeveloped nations are eager for solar, wind and renewable sources of energy but have no $$ to begin any program.)
If we had spent a fraction of the time and resources on renewable fuel instead of keeping us dependent on oil, and starting wars to preserve that dependency we might have a few friends in the world.
You know, I think it is important to point out here that it will take 5 YEARS for Iran to build a functional bomb.
5 YEARS.
So before everyone get’s wrapped up in the right winged “we gotta protect ourselves from them” crapola, we might want to consider the fact that 5 years is a LONG TIME to work out a solution.
They ain’t gonna blow us up tomorrow folks.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:46 pmThis has and remains about oil. The neo-cons realize the time is short to establish a permanant foothold in Iraq. If Iran comes into play, it will reduce the focus on Iraq. A few bombs will be dropped on Iran to destroy the “nuclear bomb making facilities” and then the prez will say, that we have to stay in Iraq (why do you think we are building all those bases?) to keep an eye on the dangerous and terrorizing nuclear bomb interested Iran. So, he gets to blast the crap out of Iran, keep troops in Iraq and look likes he’s protecting the oil interestes ops, the world from N Bomb making terrorists.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:46 pmWe got FIVE YEARS righties.
FIVE YEARS
If you can’t think of something other than immediate invasion, then you guys are the bloodthirsty chumpettes I think you are.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:48 pmI’ll believe in the US diplomatic efforts with tespect to Iran when the administration insists on Israel,India and Pakistan signing the NNPT.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:48 pmWhen that happens, all of them being regional neighbors of Iran, then telling Iran not to restart their program makes no sense.
Bad news, troops. You know how you guys been defending freedom and all that in Iraq? Well, now you have to defend us against Iran.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:50 pmThis time Europe is on the same page…
That’s the whole problem with Iraq, now that the threat is serious, Bush no longer have the credibility to address it.
Comment by David Gagnon — January 14, 2006 @ 2:32 pm
If this is so, then this time, let’s let Germany or France or Sweden take the lead why we sit this one out. Why are we supposed to be Sheriff every time? Let someone else take a turn while Bush has a time out and keeps his mouth shut.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:53 pmJudd took Bush’s words out of context, making it look like Iran HAS a nuclear weapon.
Comment by Don — January 14, 2006 @ 2:37 pm
No he didn’t Don. That’s what he said. The words around it did nothing to take away from the fact that Bush is using the idea of Iran having the bomb, the same way he used the idea of a Mushroom cloud coming to an American city if we didn’t attack Iraq.
What a stupid, stupid thing to say.
Of course, Bush is a stupid, stupid man.
And those who follow him?
Dumb and Dumber.

January 14th, 2006 at 2:59 pmLook out Blue States. Bushie will have to attack us again to convince us that Iran did it.
January 14th, 2006 at 2:59 pmI think it is vitally important for a President to know when to use military force.
I think it is also very important for him to know when not to commit U.S. military force.
And it’s my view that the President got it right both times, that it would have been a mistake for us to get bogged down in the quagmire inside Iraq.â€

Will Congress finally stop him if he claims it was an open invitation for him to invade any country he chooses?

That about sums it up there Ron.
Right now, I could not imagine being a person in here supporting a war, that I was not willing to go fight in.

(He does know that we have thousands of them, doesn’t he?)
January 14th, 2006 at 3:06 pmIt’s about oil, and the proposed euro-based Irani oil bourse, and Iran as the principal oil supplier for China. China is one of our official ‘enemies’ (along with Iran, Syria, North Korea and Venezuela) and was probably #1 in Bush’s sights before 9/11, even though China holds $400 billion of our debt (#2 behind Japan).

January 14th, 2006 at 3:07 pmAxis of evil eh? George Bush is shitting in his pants right now with empty words and empty rhetoric along with a whole lot of incredibility. He has none nada! Sooner or later wise guy Cowboys have to stroll out in the Noonday Sun for a showdown. I believe that Bush and Company will run for the hills sooner or later.

I say it is time for a showdown alright but regret that some of us Progressives have to be victimized as well.
The real problem with Iran, is that China is not going to sit idly by and watch the world tamper with one of it’s primary suppliers of Oil.
This is where my old posts on the new Chinese-Russo alliance come into play.
We played our trump cards too early with Iraq, and now we are standing here with spoooge on our trousers, looking dumb with an empty peashooter and a real woman who is hot to trot.
I bet dubya’s has that premature release problem in other areas of his life as well.

WORFEUS,
I am frequently amazed at how George Bush is such treasure trove for so many great reasons to distrust him…
I found a list of his quotes and it’s hysterical how many of them apply against him rather than for him… It’s like he’s his own poster child for Impeachment. Plus, I figured you’d guys would like to hear what George himself has to say (since the trolls always accuse us otherwise :)
Here’s the link if you find you want to amuse yourself further: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/George_W._Bush
And one for the road…
“We cannot rely exclusively on military power to assure our long-term security. Lasting peace is gained as justice and democracy advance.”
-Whitehall Palace, London, November 2003
January 14th, 2006 at 3:19 pmThe Peoples Liberation Army is about 2 and a half Million Men Strong.
That does not include auxillary divisions which estimate at least double that amount, with some estimates higher.
Combine that with their new partnership with Russia, bringing more nukes, armour, air support, and equipment to the table, we are talking at about 3 million boots on the ground ready troops, that could be deployed into the Gulf anytime now.
With the highly trained (and rested) Iranian army supporting them, and the nation of Iran providing a base of operations, I shudder to think of the consequences.
Why do you think Bushco is talking about bringing the troops home?
Cause if we don’t, there won’t be any more troops.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:21 pmPaula,
I spent the moring signing more Impeachment and censure petitions. I write my elected neocons regularly, and they seem to still be ignoring me… I think a lot of us do (or we wouldn’t be in here)… it’s just whether or not we have enough pens to stop that sword that Bush swinging…
January 14th, 2006 at 3:22 pmInteresting viewpoint on where a attack on Iran will take the US.

That’s a great collection.
It should be an album.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:24 pmJudd thinks this is a new problem since he was probably riding his tricycle in the 90’s.
1996 Iran and Libya Sanctions Act
Purpose: The Iran and Libya Sanctions Act of 1996 imposes new sanctions on foreign companies that engage in specified economic transactions with Iran or Libya. It is intended to:
– Help deny Iran and Libya revenues that could be used to finance international terrorism;
– Limit the flow of resources necessary to obtain weapons of mass destruction; and,
– Put pressure on Libya to comply with U.N. resolutions that, among other things, call for Libya to extradite for trial the accused perpetrators of the Pan Am 103 bombing.
But when Clinton chose to not enforce them (and once again passing another problem onto the next administration. We all new Clinton governed by popularity polls and never took a risk, even when the nations security was at risk), Congress was concerned:
“This proliferation cannot and must not be ignored. It is a direct threat to peace in the Middle East,” said Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-California “This carefully crafted legislation will strengthen the president’s hand in dealing with proliferators.”
January 14th, 2006 at 3:24 pmOkay WORFEUS, last one for today…

January 14th, 2006 at 3:28 pmPaula, like unbelievable I write and protest constantly. I do have a favor to ask everyone. This is so important.
I want my movie Primal America to be seen all over the world. Chicagoans protested Bushies visit on Jan. 6th and the Chicago Tribune reported “the protesters barely noticed Bush’s motorcade passing by”…A complete lie. I have the audio to the protest and made an impeachment movie out of it. I cant find a place to host it because its large, 40 minutes long. The only way I can get it to the people is via email as an attachment. All I ask folks to do is spread it around.
I’ve sent out about 30 so far but I need everyone to help put this movie all over the internet.
Please help. email me at DOBLC@aim.com, I will send a copy a.s.a.p.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:29 pmJust know this all ye of the right.
CHINA WILL NOT PERMIT AN INVASION OF IRAN.
PERIOD.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:31 pmBush has changed his policy toward China since 9/11, and is no longer directly confrontational, but he wouldn’t mind tweaking the tiger’s tail by affecting China’s energy supplies. China’s rapid economic growth jeopardizes American economic hegemony in the world. And recall the Carter Doctrine designed to keep other countries out of the Middle East, which impacts on China’s relationship with Iran. Russia’s directly involved in Iran’s nuclear program, but Russia’s no longer on our national enemies list, so that get a bye for now.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:38 pmWow, the period was figurative folks.
Feel free to talk amongst yourselves. :|
January 14th, 2006 at 3:38 pmthey get a bye.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:39 pmLots of interesting details Don.
Dosent change anything though.
CHINA WILL NOT PERMIT AN INVASION OF IRAN.
PERIOD.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:40 pmWe had all we could do to scrape together 150,000 troops for Iraq. We even had to tap our own National Guard, an entity NEVER chartered for foreign invasions.
When the Chinese-Russo alliance drops 1 Million men onto the battlefield without breaking a sweat, then we will be looking for all you tough, good ole boys to man up.
Cause that’s when we will be at war.

January 14th, 2006 at 3:48 pmIran would have been a better target than Iraq. And North Korea. Both actually have nuclear reactors and enrichment plants! (with the latter supposedly having nuclear bombs)
And in better target I would mean a non-invasion target.
Iran shouldn’t have a nuclear capability - as in nuclear weapons.
That said I have no problem with the Iranians using Nuclear Energy. There’s a really good reason for them to want to use npower: oil.
Iran massively subsidizes gasoline and other oil products within its country. The same goes for oil fired power. It would make more sense to eliminate the subsidy through nuclear energy (although that energy is expensive in the medium term) and export the newly freed oil.
That’s the rationale as to why Iran would want a civilian nuclear program. Simply put, iran should export as much oil via the market as possible. It’s desirabe to cut domestic subsidizes that zap export earnings (look at Nigeria for example).
Iran, however, isn’t interested in a civilian program. If they were they would have accepted the Russian enrichment deal. The russians are already building their reactors and supplying a lot of their expertise. The only reason Iran would want to maintain that sort of capability is to build a bomb.
That said, Japan does the same thing. It is widely known that if Japan wanted to it could build a bomb in months. The same goes for South Korea.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:53 pmSteed,
What WORFEUS said in #69…
See if you can guess who said this…
“For the greatest revolutionary changes on this earth would not have been thinkable if their motive force, instead of fanatical, yes, hysterical passion, had been merely the bourgeois virtues of law and order.”
January 14th, 2006 at 3:53 pmMy point is once again .. America is only a super power when it comes to weapons of mass destruction. apart from that you attack Iraq based on lies and invade a country that has had its true strength as an army dimminised by 22.000 sorties flown before the start of the war destroying its army and airforce making way easy progress to baghdad in the weeks …Very clever and very cowardise …Try Iran with 70 million people all whom hate Americans , 60% of the population under 35 years of age and formiddable army and airforce and a very mountainous terrain ….Beleive me you cannot handle that war …Its gonna be a nuclear strike by America. On top of this your gonna create more terrorists ?? And an attack on Iran would be strongly opposed by Russia, China, India and most of Europe and the Arab world.
This war will start before the mid term elections in the USA as to make people vote for Bush because hes half way though a war AGAIN
January 14th, 2006 at 3:54 pmYOU HAVE FIVE YEARS BEFORE THEY HAVE A BOMB DONT LET BUSH COMMIT THESES ACTS AGAIN
There would be no invasion of Iran. Just a lot of ‘targeted’ air strikes. Bush is not such a huge idiot - he realizes that the public would turn on him if he tried to actually invade Iran. That and Iran would be worse than Iraq. A lot worse.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:54 pmWORFEUS,
January 14th, 2006 at 3:55 pmI guess you missed the part where she called me paranoid for my opinion that I supported with evidence. Maybe she should address my evidence rather than call me names. Pay attention. Where were you in the 90’s? I shouldn’t have to post the volumes of material of the Clinton Administration making similar claims of terrorism (Kobar Towers, remember?) and WMD. Once again, libs are trying to pin and issue on Bush when it has been there for decades. Were you an adult when Carter was president? Remember the Carter Doctrine? Libs make a mess, we vote in Rebublicans to clean it up.
If we had pulled out the diplomacy, instead of playing the trump card with Iraq, we might still have some cards up our sleeves to play with Iran.
Now we got nothing. And our efforts for diplomancy that before would have been seen as genuine, and benevolant, now will be seen as cowardice, because they know we can’t mount another offensive.
They know our troops are busy fighting off a handfull of guys wearing rags and sporting Viet Nam era weapons and Homemade bombs, and that we could not support an offensive against a Russo-Chinese backed Iranian campaign.
Time to get out those draft cards kiddies, cause your dream is coming.
I can see it, just around the corner.

January 14th, 2006 at 3:58 pmUnbelievable, got facts? I didn’t think so. If you did you wouldn’t have to pull the Hitler reference. You’re done.
January 14th, 2006 at 3:59 pmPay attention. Where were you in the 90’s? I shouldn’t have to post the volumes of material of the Clinton Administration making similar claims of terrorism (Kobar Towers, remember?) and WMD.
Comment by Steed Lankershim — January 14, 2006 @ 3:55 pm
Clinton didn’t start a war in Iraq, getting over 2000 Americans killed, getting another 15,000 bloodied and cleaved, and killing between 30,000 and 100,000 innocent people.
Get a clue, I ain’t no democrat, and what happened in the past, while debateable, is not my concern.
My concern is what’s going to happen tomorrow. And with your group of slobbering chuckleheads in control of all 3 branches of government, I think I will focus on YOU.
Not Clinton.
January 14th, 2006 at 4:01 pm#67. Steed, you can talk about Clinton all you want. But the point you omit is that, in Bush’s own words, “everything changed after 9/11.”
Why am I supposed to give Bush a pass when it was George W. Bush HIMSELF who proclaimed a galactic super-duper state of hyper-vigilant emergency after 9/11?
I’m not calling you a name when I say you are either dumb or purposely lying.
January 14th, 2006 at 4:01 pmSteed,
You are paranoid. It’s not name calling. It’s a fact.
Iran is not going to attack us in five years with their one nuke when we have 3,000! I don’t care what Bill Clinton said. I don’t worship him as you do Bush. When politicians lips are moving, they are usually lying to get something that they want from it.
If the Russians didn’t attack us in the 1980’s, when it was a viable option for them, then I am not inclined to believe that Iran will now. What is their motve? Seriously - why would they?
I think anyone who thinks otherwise is buying into the fear mongering. So, I’ve asked it before and will ask again. Who are you more likely to attack - your friends or the playground bully beating your friends up? (hint: We should make friends with them.)
January 14th, 2006 at 4:02 pmClear it up any?
January 14th, 2006 at 4:02 pmMeanwhile, Moscow will go ahead with a $1.3 billion deal to sell short-range missiles to Iran, despite the crisis over Tehran’s resumption of nuclear research.
The planned sale of Tor-M1 tactical surface-to-air missiles to Iran has been criticised in the West.
But Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov says Russia is not in talks with Iran to sell it more powerful S300 surface-to-air missiles.
THIS WAR WILL BE STARTED BEFORE MID TERM ELECTIONS __ IMPEACH BUSH A.S.A.P
January 14th, 2006 at 4:03 pmYou are right Scotsman.
Just like we want a presence in the middle east, I think we will soon now see a Chinese-Russian precense in the middle east.
Guys like Bush never stop to think about the precedents they are setting for the rest of the superpowers to follow.
Do you really want a Russian Chinese presence permantly in Iran?
Cause you’re gonna get it, want it or not.
January 14th, 2006 at 4:06 pmIsrael believes they have short ‘window’ to launch an attack precisely because of the imminent Russian SAM deal.
Israel is more threatened than America. Israel has nukes, Iran could get nukes. It would negate Israel’s deterent - every Arab (and Iran - not Arabs) realizes that an actual invasion of Israel would get a nuclear response if Israeli defeat was forseeable. Israeli likes that deterrent.
America likes Israel. So…

January 14th, 2006 at 4:08 pmthink about this
everyday in the uk 5 tonnes of cannabis gets smoked and imported from abroad, it would be so easy to import say 5 kilos of anthrax or nerve gas as a retaliation for an attack on Iran ???

January 14th, 2006 at 4:12 pmScotman, do you honestly think we’re just sitting on our asses here? What do you think this blog is all about? We’re doing our best to make change here, and you’re not exactly being fair, it’s an uphill battle with a republican controlled congress and we’re trying as hard as we can to make change so back off ok?
January 14th, 2006 at 4:15 pmWORFEUS,
I think he’s taken his toys and gone home crying…
Guess you know we bombed Pakistan… was probably another wedding.
I’m wondering how much longer before someone will start an invasion of the U.S. to liberate the American people from the theocratic and paranoid dictator who has taken over the country and is now sporatically bombing other countries against the will of the people…
January 14th, 2006 at 4:16 pmIf there was any justice on this planet (trust me, there isn’t) we’d be looking at a photo of an Israeli nuclear facility and talking about how to neutralize them! The most absurd aspect of all of this is nuclear powers insisting that non-nuclear powers can’t themselves…….become nuclear powers. How can any international organization ascribe to something so manifestly idiotic?
Let’s get real about all of this: If the U.S. takes it upon itself to nuke Iran to keep them from having nukes- we’ll be smack in the middle of WWIII, every economy on the planet will be smashed to bits and the rest of our lives (and our children’s) will be a horrible struggle, the likes of which will be a living nightmare.

The scriptures that these men believe in tell them that the US will one day be at war against all the world, and it’s only ally will be Israel.
If you believe that, all you have to do is figure out a way to make it come to pass.
They are working on that now apparently.
We need to impeach now, and show the world we do posses reason here in the states.

Still waiting for an apology from you for that boneheaded republican move!

Soldiers must understand why we’re going. The force must be strong enough so that the mission can be accomplished. And the exit strategy needs to be well-defined. I’m concerned that we’re overdeployed around the world. You see, I think the mission has somewhat become fuzzy. Should I be fortunate enough to earn your confidence, the mission of the United States military will be to be prepared and ready to fight and win war, and therefore prevent war from happening in the first place. January 14th, 2006 at 5:26 pmLook, we have all digressed. But the fact here is that China will never sit by for any US or even UN sanctioned meddling in Iran.
That is the real problem is, and watching the press touch on it, but lightly tip toe around it for the most part, is hilarious. Well, at least if it wasn’t so serious.
China is the real world threat, and their alliance with Russia.
We needed to show a soft hand with Iraq, so we would be taken seriously when we went to the table with these countries. Now we have shot our wad prematurely, and have nothing but the nukes to trump with.

Wow, a republican who can make at least one honest statement without their head exploding - I commend you old woman!
” (The majority of the world’s economy currently runs on oil, right Bob??) ”
Actually much of the world’s economy is fueled on Coal (over 50% of power generation comes from coal), but close enough. Fossil fuels are important, especially in a car dependent culture that refuses to build infrastructure around public transportation like our european friends have.
“I am for alternative energy sources - if only to rid ourselves of the corrupt barbarians in the Middle East. mighty aphrodite”
And yet oil companies and the CIA have consistently chosen ‘barbarians’ as leaders of those countries, over democratic regimes. Heck, Iran’s democracy was overthrown and replaced by the Shah and his dictatorship by Eisenhower.
Alternative energy is already practical and affordable, brazil runs 20% of their cars from ethanol, and the fuel is cheaper than gasoline.
“But with your brilliant insight, you should be nominated by fellow travellers for the Nobel Prize for “Intelligence†might aphrodite”
Wow, why must you be so spiteful - is it your arthritis and old age, or were you always so unsociable?
But I agree that the ‘barbarians’ that conservatives continually pick for leadership in the middle east is the biggest problem. It’s created an entire generation of radicals that are as hard to reach and reason with as a republican troll. I’m sure you understand what I mean.
January 14th, 2006 at 5:28 pmRepublicans and war supporters thought the war in Iraq would make us look tough to the world.
But the truth is it showed the world our weaknesses, and depleted our forces so that now EVERYONE knows our actual troop strength, which is less than we had asserted in the past, and everyone knows our tactics, methods and battle strategies. Hell we’re even giving the guys we were fighting onsite personal training on our tactics.
And in the process we created millions of new enemies.
Iraq has made us look like a monkey fu##$king a football.

January 14th, 2006 at 5:37 pmSteed,
I didn’t realize you had ceded american sovereignty to the UN, because it was the UN that had authorized and was responsible for managing the sanctions and no-fly zones with Iraq. The end of hostilities agreement the Iraqis signed permitted the UN Coalition to manage the no-fly zone.
I’m intrigued to see a conservative consider an UN action an ‘american’ war, it’s certainly shocking considering how anti-UN you cats can be. Maybe you’re ‘evolving’ despite your disbelief in Darwin. I hold out hope for you Steed, no matter how small it is.

The middle east conflict always lands on two points.
Israel
Oil
And in both cases the arab populations always get screwed by the hand of american military might, and CIA interventions. It’s why the hate us. Our policies drive many otherwise sane people (not that they don’t have insane ones like any group) into supporting policies and groups that are threatening and dangerous.
When you back anyone into a corner, and oppress them long enough, a revolt and violent opposition is bound to arise. Lebanon went from being the ‘Paris’ of the Mediterranean to being a worn torn unstable country because of the Israeli conflict. Now Iraq has gone from one of the few secular countries with relatively high education and options for opportunities, to a war torn country in the midst of a civil war because of oil and Israel. Iraq is a bigger threat to its neighbors, itself and the region now than ever before. And if we did invade Iran, an ever bigger mess would result. The iranians must bring about their own new government, and that’s the only way stability will result.
These to factors are destablizing, and until they are resolved there will be no peace in the middle east, and no security from terrorism. And this is why the republicans have, and will continue to fail. Because they’re incapable of realizing this simple fact.
January 14th, 2006 at 5:46 pmviolence only breeds violence, change your foreign policy and all troubles will be finished as easy as that

I don’t give a crap about whether the UN sanctioned the bombings or not. Your a fool.
I will have to examine one day when I give a sh#$t how many were sanctioned and how many were not, but comparing the few justified strategic strikes that were retaliation for incursions, to GENOCIDE, is HUBRIS.
But no more than I would expect out of a right winged monkeyspankin slug like you. :D
January 14th, 2006 at 5:51 pmread the book :Behind The war On Terror ,it tells the story of how bushco plans to take over the Middle East then divide it up for big oil. It has nothing whatever toi do with Nukes its about total control of oil and natural gas and England is in partnership on all this.
This is why our troops are really being rerouted from Iraq .At first it will be bombs dropped by planes just like in Iraq then troops will be sent in to displaced the Citizens of Iran just like Iraq ,then comes the privatizing of oil and natural gas among the Big Oil People. Then the final draw down begins on American Cirizens say good bye to what little Freedoms we have now.
I want to look bush in the face and say Fu** You!
Bush also is planning on Rice being our next Leader notice I didn’t say President…..He will pass the mantle tto the next Vulcan in line…..All his chess pieces are in place and America hasn’t any left.
January 14th, 2006 at 5:51 pmSteed, Republicans claimed that UN Resolution 688 gave the united states the right to enforce the no fly zones, and bomb Iraq to ‘protect its citizens’, as per that resolution.
Unless you’d like to say GHBush is a liar, then your attack on Worfeus is disenguous. You did know about that resolution, and Bush’s invoking of it didn’t you?
January 14th, 2006 at 5:52 pmPart of PNAC/AEI policy.
January 14th, 2006 at 5:55 pmRepublicans have a long history of creating the problems in the middle east that all americans must deal with. Lets look at a brief history of Iran, and how Republicans destroyed it’s democracy in favor of dictatorships.
January 14th, 2006 at 5:55 pmThen lets look at Iraq - although unfortunately the ‘conservatives’ in the Democrats had as much of a hand in this failure as did the Republicans did. Thank heavens most of those rightwing democrats left the party - they had no place among the democrats.
January 14th, 2006 at 5:58 pmYes, Resolution 688. Very good, grasshopper, but I can’t seem to find the part about bombing the shit out of Iraq because they had WMD. That’s weird. And I didn’t know a Republican was commander in chief between 1998 and 2000. It was a very confusing time wasn’t it RP. Oh, I bet your were still riding your tricycle at the time. Liar.

No one gives a crap about 311 deaths in 1998.
We can’t even do anything about the 30,000 + deaths you have caused thus far.
All we care about is the next 30,000 you psychopathic bloodthirsty lunatics want to waste.
January 14th, 2006 at 6:08 pm“Yes, Resolution 688. Very good, grasshopper, but I can’t seem to find the part about bombing the shit out of Iraq because they had WMD. Steed Lankershim”
Just use the part of your brain that you use to read the bible, it’s all there. That resolution was in 1991 under GHBush, and it was he who established the no fly zone, and the subsequent ‘bombing’ also justified to enforce the zone and the ’security’ of the people. I guess you missed that part.
“That’s weird. And I didn’t know a Republican was commander in chief between 1998 and 2000. It was a very confusing time wasn’t it RP. Oh, I bet your were still riding your tricycle at the time. Liar. Steed Lankershim”
Now why must you always get so rude and ill mannered when I point out that you’ve lied, or incorrectly stated the facts. I gave you the reason, the one that the republicans gave, and yet you go acting all childish. We both know that we want a safe and secure country, so notch it up level there ‘junior’ and introduce some civility into your ‘lies’, it’ll just make the medicine go down smoother.
Now as for the bombing campaign, that was justified under the same resolution which permitted the US to protect the Iraqi citizens from the central government. Since Saddam had used weapons on his own people, this was considered to be a reasonable justification and inline with the UN doctrine.
You can ignore it all you want, but it’s a rational argument that GHBush who argued the meaning and extent this resolution gave permission wise to the coalition, not the democrats. I’m sorry you don’t agree with your fellow republicans, but it is they who you call a liar.
January 14th, 2006 at 6:08 pmFunny how RP’s history of Iran leaves out the failures of the Carter Doctrine. RP’s been known to omit information that show’s Democrats’ role in our Mideast policies. My wifes family is from Iran. Trust me, you wouldn’t want to live there. You’re arm might get amputated or you would be hung in public for expressing your views. But who cares when you can spew hatred and anti-american propaganda about this awful country, the US of A. F.U. I’m outta here. PLH, go Bears.
