President Bush, 1/13/06:

Iran, armed with a nuclear weapon, poses a grave threat to the security of the world.

President Bush 10/7/02:

Tonight I want to take a few minutes to discuss a grave threat to peace…The threat comes from Iraq…It is seeking nuclear weapons.

UPDATE: More deja vu. An annotated satellite image of Iran.

  2. Gus the Loving OBGYN Says:

Good. Maybe he'll send his private army there where they'll be smashed like wet turds.

  3. The Flying Scotman Says:

Iran seems to be wanting nuclear power for energy and even if they want to build a N-bomb so what ..the world has to realise all nuclear bombs should be banned then i accept going into Iran..There was a certain amount of scaling down nuclear weapons until madman Bush got into power ..since then there has been a reversal on scaling down ...America ban the bomb too and stop using it for bullying everyone ...

  4. wisedup Says:

    "It's not about oil,it's about terrrrus"...sure george.

  5. The Flying Scotman Says:

and even on fast track to make a bomb will takr five years where as north Korea has benn using uranium gas certifuges since 1997 ...go for them first ...But America only picks on weaker countries like Iraq that was NO THREAT ...BLOODY COWARDS YOU AMERICANS REALLY ARE

  6. Citizen80203 Says:

    Easy Scotman

They real cowards here are about 30%, so tone it down here or f**k off somewhere else.

  7. Jeff Says:

Unfortunarely this tiome Bush is right However because he lied about Iraq no one believes him. Also Iran knows that we cannot do anything to deter their nuclear program, because our troops are stuck in Iraq.

  8. Gus the Loving OBGYN Says:

    Terry,
Thanks for the links. Will all the things America wanted kill them? Big China? Fair EU oil prices? Microsoft censoring to protect foreign governments? All this time we could have been perfecting the perfect energy efficient society?
The freaks better believe in their own evolution because the Rapture ain't comin' for these quacks.

  9. Jeff Says:

I appreciate the Scotsman's comments for helping us Americans realize how much of the world sees us.

Thanks George Bush for making most of the world hate us and fear us more than the communist Chinese.

  10. MagnumDB Says:

Why is it that all the people with the oil, or who want the oil, are always the crazy men who want to kill everyone too? Who will buy the oil if everyone is dead?

  11. Citizen80203 Says:

    Yes Jeff,

Pu**yboy Bush has waisted two and a half years and all the resources for oil, while Iran and N. Korea have been busy bees. What else from the worst preident ever.

  12. Gus the Loving OBGYN Says:

Iran's current leader is there because spooked Iranians, who don't even care for this guy, are afraid-
Iran was turning the corner and Condi and the criminals called them "Evil". No shame. Only racism and hypocrisy.

  13. Gus the Loving OBGYN Says:

Iran is going to be just like China. A capitalistic dictatorship. These are the monsters America created.

  14. unbelievable Says:

If he attacks them, I'm moving to Europe. And I'm not kidding.

How stupid does this man think we all are? I grew up in a family with decorated war heros who loved this country enough to give their lives to fight for it. But this is no longer that country. George Bush has assure that.

I'm a pacifist who is tired of signing Impeachment petitions... we need another Revolution.

  15. Susan Says:

Again Bubble boy is putting our troops at risk. Our troops are spent and weary and now they have to defend themselves against a couple of million more people that hate America.

    Bush hates the troops.

  16. David Gagnon Says:

    My Canadian point of view...

Bush lied about Iraq, no doubt about it.

But this time it's a little bit different.

We have a wacko who talks about destroying a neighbour country and perusing a nuclear program.

This time Europe is on the same page...

That's the whole problem with Iraq, now that the threat is serious, Bush no longer have the credibility to address it.

  17. Don Says:

Judd took Bush's words out of context, making it look like Iran HAS a nuclear weapon.

"Iran, armed with a nuclear weapon, poses a grave threat to the security of the world."

This is what Bush actually said:

The U.N. Security Council is part of the diplomatic process, started by Germany, France, and Great Britain representing the interests of a lot of countries like ourself, which made it abundantly clear to the Iranians that the development of the know-how and our -- a nuclear weapon was unacceptable. And the reason it's unacceptable is because Iran, armed with a nuclear weapon, poses a grave threat to the security of the world.

  18. Granite State Destroyer Says:

    Hello $100.00 barrels of oil.

Goodbye to the saggy Bush recovery in the economy.

    -GSD

  19. Marie Says:

Here we go again. Rhetoric redux.
Soon, we will attack Iran (or Israel will and we will back them).
Another war for oil because the Texas oil boys have one-track minds. Money=oil -- Oil=money.
Alternative energy? Certainly not in the Bush agenda.
(Underdeveloped nations are eager for solar, wind and renewable sources of energy but have no $$ to begin any program.)
If we had spent a fraction of the time and resources on renewable fuel instead of keeping us dependent on oil, and starting wars to preserve that dependency we might have a few friends in the world.

  20. WORFEUS Says:

You know, I think it is important to point out here that it will take 5 YEARS for Iran to build a functional bomb.

    5 YEARS.

So before everyone get's wrapped up in the right winged "we gotta protect ourselves from them" crapola, we might want to consider the fact that 5 years is a LONG TIME to work out a solution.

They ain't gonna blow us up tomorrow folks.

  21. Southwest Bob Says:

This has and remains about oil. The neo-cons realize the time is short to establish a permanant foothold in Iraq. If Iran comes into play, it will reduce the focus on Iraq. A few bombs will be dropped on Iran to destroy the "nuclear bomb making facilities" and then the prez will say, that we have to stay in Iraq (why do you think we are building all those bases?) to keep an eye on the dangerous and terrorizing nuclear bomb interested Iran. So, he gets to blast the crap out of Iran, keep troops in Iraq and look likes he's protecting the oil interestes ops, the world from N Bomb making terrorists.

  22. WORFEUS Says:

    We got FIVE YEARS righties.

    FIVE YEARS

If you can't think of something other than immediate invasion, then you guys are the bloodthirsty chumpettes I think you are.

  23. TJM Says:

I'll believe in the US diplomatic efforts with tespect to Iran when the administration insists on Israel,India and Pakistan signing the NNPT.
When that happens, all of them being regional neighbors of Iran, then telling Iran not to restart their program makes no sense.

  24. cynical ex-hippie Says:

Bad news, troops. You know how you guys been defending freedom and all that in Iraq? Well, now you have to defend us against Iran.

  25. unbelievable Says:

    Comment by David Gagnon — January 14, 2006 @ 2:32 pm

If this is so, then this time, let's let Germany or France or Sweden take the lead why we sit this one out. Why are we supposed to be Sheriff every time? Let someone else take a turn while Bush has a time out and keeps his mouth shut.

  26. WORFEUS Says:

Judd took Bush’s words out of context, making it look like Iran HAS a nuclear weapon.

    Comment by Don — January 14, 2006 @ 2:37 pm

No he didn't Don. That's what he said. The words around it did nothing to take away from the fact that Bush is using the idea of Iran having the bomb, the same way he used the idea of a Mushroom cloud coming to an American city if we didn't attack Iraq.

What a stupid, stupid thing to say.

Of course, Bush is a stupid, stupid man.

    And those who follow him?

    Dumb and Dumber.

I think it is vitally important for a President to know when to use military force.

I think it is also very important for him to know when not to commit U.S. military force.

  39. Don Says:

It's about oil, and the proposed euro-based Irani oil bourse, and Iran as the principal oil supplier for China. China is one of our official 'enemies' (along with Iran, Syria, North Korea and Venezuela) and was probably #1 in Bush's sights before 9/11, even though China holds $400 billion of our debt (#2 behind Japan).

  42. WORFEUS Says:

The real problem with Iran, is that China is not going to sit idly by and watch the world tamper with one of it's primary suppliers of Oil.

This is where my old posts on the new Chinese-Russo alliance come into play.

We played our trump cards too early with Iraq, and now we are standing here with spoooge on our trousers, looking dumb with an empty peashooter and a real woman who is hot to trot.

    WORFEUS,

I am frequently amazed at how George Bush is such treasure trove for so many great reasons to distrust him...

I found a list of his quotes and it's hysterical how many of them apply against him rather than for him... It's like he's his own poster child for Impeachment. Plus, I figured you'd guys would like to hear what George himself has to say (since the trolls always accuse us otherwise :)

    And one for the road...

"We cannot rely exclusively on military power to assure our long-term security. Lasting peace is gained as justice and democracy advance."

    -Whitehall Palace, London, November 2003

  51. WORFEUS Says:

The Peoples Liberation Army is about 2 and a half Million Men Strong.

That does not include auxillary divisions which estimate at least double that amount, with some estimates higher.

Combine that with their new partnership with Russia, bringing more nukes, armour, air support, and equipment to the table, we are talking at about 3 million boots on the ground ready troops, that could be deployed into the Gulf anytime now.

With the highly trained (and rested) Iranian army supporting them, and the nation of Iran providing a base of operations, I shudder to think of the consequences.

Why do you think Bushco is talking about bringing the troops home?

Cause if we don't, there won't be any more troops.

  55. Steed Lankershim Says:

Judd thinks this is a new problem since he was probably riding his tricycle in the 90's.

1996 Iran and Libya Sanctions Act

Purpose: The Iran and Libya Sanctions Act of 1996 imposes new sanctions on foreign companies that engage in specified economic transactions with Iran or Libya. It is intended to:

    -- Help deny Iran and Libya revenues that could be used to finance international terrorism;

-- Limit the flow of resources necessary to obtain weapons of mass destruction; and,

-- Put pressure on Libya to comply with U.N. resolutions that, among other things, call for Libya to extradite for trial the accused perpetrators of the Pan Am 103 bombing.

But when Clinton chose to not enforce them (and once again passing another problem onto the next administration. We all new Clinton governed by popularity polls and never took a risk, even when the nations security was at risk), Congress was concerned:

"This proliferation cannot and must not be ignored. It is a direct threat to peace in the Middle East," said Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-California "This carefully crafted legislation will strengthen the president's hand in dealing with proliferators."

  56. unbelievable Says:

Paula, like unbelievable I write and protest constantly. I do have a favor to ask everyone. This is so important.

I want my movie Primal America to be seen all over the world. Chicagoans protested Bushies visit on Jan. 6th and the Chicago Tribune reported "the protesters barely noticed Bush's motorcade passing by"...A complete lie. I have the audio to the protest and made an impeachment movie out of it. I cant find a place to host it because its large, 40 minutes long. The only way I can get it to the people is via email as an attachment. All I ask folks to do is spread it around.

I've sent out about 30 so far but I need everyone to help put this movie all over the internet.

Please help. email me at DOBLC@aim.com, I will send a copy a.s.a.p.

  59. WORFEUS Says:

Just know this all ye of the right.

CHINA WILL NOT PERMIT AN INVASION OF IRAN.

    PERIOD.

  60. Don Says:

Bush has changed his policy toward China since 9/11, and is no longer directly confrontational, but he wouldn't mind tweaking the tiger's tail by affecting China's energy supplies. China's rapid economic growth jeopardizes American economic hegemony in the world. And recall the Carter Doctrine designed to keep other countries out of the Middle East, which impacts on China's relationship with Iran. Russia's directly involved in Iran's nuclear program, but Russia's no longer on our national enemies list, so that get a bye for now.

  61. WORFEUS Says:

Wow, the period was figurative folks.

Feel free to talk amongst yourselves. :|

  62. Don Says:

    they get a bye.

  63. WORFEUS Says:

    Lots of interesting details Don.

    Dosent change anything though.

CHINA WILL NOT PERMIT AN INVASION OF IRAN.

    PERIOD.

  64. WORFEUS Says:

We had all we could do to scrape together 150,000 troops for Iraq. We even had to tap our own National Guard, an entity NEVER chartered for foreign invasions.

When the Chinese-Russo alliance drops 1 Million men onto the battlefield without breaking a sweat, then we will be looking for all you tough, good ole boys to man up.

Cause that's when we will be at war.

  68. James Says:

Iran would have been a better target than Iraq. And North Korea. Both actually have nuclear reactors and enrichment plants! (with the latter supposedly having nuclear bombs)

And in better target I would mean a non-invasion target.

Iran shouldn't have a nuclear capability - as in nuclear weapons.

That said I have no problem with the Iranians using Nuclear Energy. There's a really good reason for them to want to use npower: oil.

Iran massively subsidizes gasoline and other oil products within its country. The same goes for oil fired power. It would make more sense to eliminate the subsidy through nuclear energy (although that energy is expensive in the medium term) and export the newly freed oil.

That's the rationale as to why Iran would want a civilian nuclear program. Simply put, iran should export as much oil via the market as possible. It's desirabe to cut domestic subsidizes that zap export earnings (look at Nigeria for example).

Iran, however, isn't interested in a civilian program. If they were they would have accepted the Russian enrichment deal. The russians are already building their reactors and supplying a lot of their expertise. The only reason Iran would want to maintain that sort of capability is to build a bomb.

That said, Japan does the same thing. It is widely known that if Japan wanted to it could build a bomb in months. The same goes for South Korea.

  69. unbelievable Says:

    Steed,

    What WORFEUS said in #69...

See if you can guess who said this...

"For the greatest revolutionary changes on this earth would not have been thinkable if their motive force, instead of fanatical, yes, hysterical passion, had been merely the bourgeois virtues of law and order."

  70. The Flying Scotman Says:

My point is once again .. America is only a super power when it comes to weapons of mass destruction. apart from that you attack Iraq based on lies and invade a country that has had its true strength as an army dimminised by 22.000 sorties flown before the start of the war destroying its army and airforce making way easy progress to baghdad in the weeks ...Very clever and very cowardise ...Try Iran with 70 million people all whom hate Americans , 60% of the population under 35 years of age and formiddable army and airforce and a very mountainous terrain ....Beleive me you cannot handle that war ...Its gonna be a nuclear strike by America. On top of this your gonna create more terrorists ?? And an attack on Iran would be strongly opposed by Russia, China, India and most of Europe and the Arab world.

This war will start before the mid term elections in the USA as to make people vote for Bush because hes half way though a war AGAIN

YOU HAVE FIVE YEARS BEFORE THEY HAVE A BOMB DONT LET BUSH COMMIT THESES ACTS AGAIN

  71. James Says:

There would be no invasion of Iran. Just a lot of 'targeted' air strikes. Bush is not such a huge idiot - he realizes that the public would turn on him if he tried to actually invade Iran. That and Iran would be worse than Iraq. A lot worse.

  72. Steed Lankershim Says:

    WORFEUS,
I guess you missed the part where she called me paranoid for my opinion that I supported with evidence. Maybe she should address my evidence rather than call me names. Pay attention. Where were you in the 90's? I shouldn't have to post the volumes of material of the Clinton Administration making similar claims of terrorism (Kobar Towers, remember?) and WMD. Once again, libs are trying to pin and issue on Bush when it has been there for decades. Were you an adult when Carter was president? Remember the Carter Doctrine? Libs make a mess, we vote in Rebublicans to clean it up.

  73. WORFEUS Says:

If we had pulled out the diplomacy, instead of playing the trump card with Iraq, we might still have some cards up our sleeves to play with Iran.

Now we got nothing. And our efforts for diplomancy that before would have been seen as genuine, and benevolant, now will be seen as cowardice, because they know we can't mount another offensive.

They know our troops are busy fighting off a handfull of guys wearing rags and sporting Viet Nam era weapons and Homemade bombs, and that we could not support an offensive against a Russo-Chinese backed Iranian campaign.

Time to get out those draft cards kiddies, cause your dream is coming.

I can see it, just around the corner.

Try Iran with 70 million people all whom hate Americans , 60% of the population under 35 years of age and formiddable army and airforce and a very mountainous terrain ….Beleive me you cannot handle that war …Its gonna be a nuclear strike by America.

  78. Steed Lankershim Says:

  79. WORFEUS Says:

Pay attention. Where were you in the 90’s? I shouldn’t have to post the volumes of material of the Clinton Administration making similar claims of terrorism (Kobar Towers, remember?) and WMD.
    Comment by Steed Lankershim — January 14, 2006 @ 3:55 pm

Clinton didn't start a war in Iraq, getting over 2000 Americans killed, getting another 15,000 bloodied and cleaved, and killing between 30,000 and 100,000 innocent people.

Get a clue, I ain't no democrat, and what happened in the past, while debateable, is not my concern.

My concern is what's going to happen tomorrow. And with your group of slobbering chuckleheads in control of all 3 branches of government, I think I will focus on YOU.

    Not Clinton.

  80. ElectricBassPlayer Says:

#67. Steed, you can talk about Clinton all you want. But the point you omit is that, in Bush's own words, "everything changed after 9/11."

Why am I supposed to give Bush a pass when it was George W. Bush HIMSELF who proclaimed a galactic super-duper state of hyper-vigilant emergency after 9/11?

I'm not calling you a name when I say you are either dumb or purposely lying.

  81. unbelievable Says:

    Steed,

You are paranoid. It's not name calling. It's a fact.

Iran is not going to attack us in five years with their one nuke when we have 3,000! I don't care what Bill Clinton said. I don't worship him as you do Bush. When politicians lips are moving, they are usually lying to get something that they want from it.

If the Russians didn't attack us in the 1980's, when it was a viable option for them, then I am not inclined to believe that Iran will now. What is their motve? Seriously - why would they?

I think anyone who thinks otherwise is buying into the fear mongering. So, I've asked it before and will ask again. Who are you more likely to attack - your friends or the playground bully beating your friends up? (hint: We should make friends with them.)

  82. WORFEUS Says:

    Clear it up any?

  83. The Flying Scotman Says:

Meanwhile, Moscow will go ahead with a $1.3 billion deal to sell short-range missiles to Iran, despite the crisis over Tehran's resumption of nuclear research.

The planned sale of Tor-M1 tactical surface-to-air missiles to Iran has been criticised in the West.

But Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov says Russia is not in talks with Iran to sell it more powerful S300 surface-to-air missiles.

THIS WAR WILL BE STARTED BEFORE MID TERM ELECTIONS __ IMPEACH BUSH A.S.A.P

  84. WORFEUS Says:

    You are right Scotsman.

Just like we want a presence in the middle east, I think we will soon now see a Chinese-Russian precense in the middle east.

Guys like Bush never stop to think about the precedents they are setting for the rest of the superpowers to follow.

Do you really want a Russian Chinese presence permantly in Iran?

Cause you're gonna get it, want it or not.

  85. James Says:

Israel believes they have short 'window' to launch an attack precisely because of the imminent Russian SAM deal.

Israel is more threatened than America. Israel has nukes, Iran could get nukes. It would negate Israel's deterent - every Arab (and Iran - not Arabs) realizes that an actual invasion of Israel would get a nuclear response if Israeli defeat was forseeable. Israeli likes that deterrent.

    America likes Israel. So...

  95. Bigislandguy Says:

If there was any justice on this planet (trust me, there isn't) we'd be looking at a photo of an Israeli nuclear facility and talking about how to neutralize them! The most absurd aspect of all of this is nuclear powers insisting that non-nuclear powers can't themselves.......become nuclear powers. How can any international organization ascribe to something so manifestly idiotic?

Let's get real about all of this: If the U.S. takes it upon itself to nuke Iran to keep them from having nukes- we'll be smack in the middle of WWIII, every economy on the planet will be smashed to bits and the rest of our lives (and our children's) will be a horrible struggle, the likes of which will be a living nightmare.

" (The majority of the world’s economy currently runs on oil, right Bob??) "

Actually much of the world's economy is fueled on Coal (over 50% of power generation comes from coal), but close enough. Fossil fuels are important, especially in a car dependent culture that refuses to build infrastructure around public transportation like our european friends have.

"I am for alternative energy sources - if only to rid ourselves of the corrupt barbarians in the Middle East. mighty aphrodite"

And yet oil companies and the CIA have consistently chosen 'barbarians' as leaders of those countries, over democratic regimes. Heck, Iran's democracy was overthrown and replaced by the Shah and his dictatorship by Eisenhower.

Alternative energy is already practical and affordable, brazil runs 20% of their cars from ethanol, and the fuel is cheaper than gasoline.

Wow, why must you be so spiteful - is it your arthritis and old age, or were you always so unsociable?

The middle east conflict always lands on two points.

    Israel
    Oil

And in both cases the arab populations always get screwed by the hand of american military might, and CIA interventions. It's why the hate us. Our policies drive many otherwise sane people (not that they don't have insane ones like any group) into supporting policies and groups that are threatening and dangerous.

When you back anyone into a corner, and oppress them long enough, a revolt and violent opposition is bound to arise. Lebanon went from being the 'Paris' of the Mediterranean to being a worn torn unstable country because of the Israeli conflict. Now Iraq has gone from one of the few secular countries with relatively high education and options for opportunities, to a war torn country in the midst of a civil war because of oil and Israel. Iraq is a bigger threat to its neighbors, itself and the region now than ever before. And if we did invade Iran, an ever bigger mess would result. The iranians must bring about their own new government, and that's the only way stability will result.

These to factors are destablizing, and until they are resolved there will be no peace in the middle east, and no security from terrorism. And this is why the republicans have, and will continue to fail. Because they're incapable of realizing this simple fact.

This is why our troops are really being rerouted from Iraq .At first it will be bombs dropped by planes just like in Iraq then troops will be sent in to displaced the Citizens of Iran just like Iraq ,then comes the privatizing of oil and natural gas among the Big Oil People. Then the final draw down begins on American Cirizens say good bye to what little Freedoms we have now.

  145. Hirnlego Says:

    Part of PNAC/AEI policy.

  146. RightPunch Says:

Republicans have a long history of creating the problems in the middle east that all americans must deal with. Lets look at a brief history of Iran, and how Republicans destroyed it's democracy in favor of dictatorships.

"It's quite clear that the 1953 coup cut short a move toward democracy in Iran," said Mark J. Gasiorowski, a historian at Louisiana State University who began studying that coup in the 1980's. "The United States bears responsibility for this."

Iranians wrote a constitution and elected a parliament early in the 20th century. Their progress toward democracy stopped after the Pahlavi dynasty took the throne with British help in 1921, but resumed after World War II. By the time of the 1953 coup, Iran was more free than at any time before or since.

  147. RightPunch Says:

Then lets look at Iraq - although unfortunately the 'conservatives' in the Democrats had as much of a hand in this failure as did the Republicans did. Thank heavens most of those rightwing democrats left the party - they had no place among the democrats.

Today, George W. Bush and his cohorts claim that US actions have always been guided by "friendship" for the Iraqi people. Yet when the hated monarchy fell and a bit of popular democracy reared its head in the region, US did not respond with joy - or flowers and sweets -but with military deployments-including nuclear weapons- threats of war, and covert operations which would ultimately bring Saddam Hussein to power.

In 1963, the US directly assisted the Ba'ath rise to power by supporting its coup against the Republic and providing it with lists of suspected communists, left-leaning intellectuals, progressives, and radical nationalists. CIA-provided lists in hand, the Ba'ath then unleashed a reign of terror in which thousands were killed, including, according to one author, "people who represented the backbone of Iraqi society-lawyers, doctors, academics and students-as well as workers, women and children."

Washington then helped the Ba'ath consolidate undivided power - dispatching former Treasury Secretary Robert Anderson to Baghdad to supervise the operation in 1967 - via a July 30, 1968 coup. Iraq's chief of military intelligence would later write, "for the 1968 coup you must look to Washington."

The US preferred Ba'ath rule to the prospect of millions of politically energized Iraqis taking Iraq in a more democratic, anti-imperialist, or revolutionary direction. Yet tensions would soon grow between Washington and Baghdad. In 1972, Iraq signed a 15-year friendship treaty with the Soviet Union and completed the nationalization of its oil industry. These actions embodied some of the key challenges to US Middle East hegemony in the late 1960s and early 1970s: the spread of Arab nationalism, expanding Soviet influence, and the nationalization of the region's petroleum industry.

So Ba'athist Iraq was becoming a problem, and the US would spend the next 30 plus years trying to subordinate it-sometimes with the carrot of aid and weapons, more often with the stick of force.

  148. Steed Lankershim Says:

Yes, Resolution 688. Very good, grasshopper, but I can't seem to find the part about bombing the shit out of Iraq because they had WMD. That's weird. 151. WORFEUS Says:

    Steed Lankershim, READ MY LIPS.

Or at least my typing. :|

No one gives a crap about 311 deaths in 1998.

We can't even do anything about the 30,000 + deaths you have caused thus far.

All we care about is the next 30,000 you psychopathic bloodthirsty lunatics want to waste.

  152. RightPunch Says:

"Yes, Resolution 688. Very good, grasshopper, but I can’t seem to find the part about bombing the shit out of Iraq because they had WMD. Steed Lankershim"

Just use the part of your brain that you use to read the bible, it's all there. That resolution was in 1991 under GHBush, and it was he who established the no fly zone, and the subsequent 'bombing' also justified to enforce the zone and the 'security' of the people. I guess you missed that part.

"That’s weird. And I didn’t know a Republican was commander in chief between 1998 and 2000. It was a very confusing time wasn’t it RP. Oh, I bet your were still riding your tricycle at the time. Liar. Steed Lankershim"

Now why must you always get so rude and ill mannered when I point out that you've lied, or incorrectly stated the facts. I gave you the reason, the one that the republicans gave, and yet you go acting all childish. We both know that we want a safe and secure country, so notch it up level there 'junior' and introduce some civility into your 'lies', it'll just make the medicine go down smoother.

Now as for the bombing campaign, that was justified under the same resolution which permitted the US to protect the Iraqi citizens from the central government. Since Saddam had used weapons on his own people, this was considered to be a reasonable justification and inline with the UN doctrine.

You can ignore it all you want, but it's a rational argument that GHBush who argued the meaning and extent this resolution gave permission wise to the coalition, not the democrats. I'm sorry you don't agree with your fellow republicans, but it is they who you call a liar.

  153. Steed Lankershim Says:

Funny how RP's history of Iran leaves out the failures of the Carter Doctrine. RP's been known to omit information that show's Democrats' role in our Mideast policies. My wifes family is from Iran. Trust me, you wouldn't want to live there. You're arm might get amputated or you would be hung in public for expressing your views. But who cares when you can spew hatred and anti-american propaganda about this awful country, the US of A. F.U. I'm outta here. PLH, go Bears.

  154. WORFEUS Says:

That's better than bugs bunny in a dress, which is what the republicans 'appointed' as 'king george'.

    Tweety

Me thinks the girlie republican chickenhawks protesteth too much.

  157. Steed Lankershim Says:

That resolution was in 1991 under GHBush, and it was he who established the no fly zone...

Oh, you left out Britain and France. More omissions dumbass? F.U.

  158. RightPunch Says:

"Funny how RP’s history of Iran leaves out the failures of the Carter Doctrine. RP’s been known to omit information that show’s Democrats’ role in our Mideast policies. Steed Lankershim"

    1) I already admitted that the role of Democrats, especially in Iraq during the 60s was too 'republican'.
    2) The Carter doctrine? You mean where we avoided a full scale war with a country outfitted with a huge arsenal of OUR arms? Please, who's omitting now?

"My wifes family is from Iran. Trust me, you wouldn’t want to live there. You’re arm might get amputated or you would be hung in public for expressing your views. Steed Lankershim"

Ah, that explains why you know very little about it. Most ex-pat Iranians were tied to the rightwing shah (no wonder why she was drawn to you) and the corrupt rightwing regime. You just traded one set of rightwingers for another in Iran, it sucked before the revolution and it sucks now. Iran is certainly a bad place for dissent - but have you read I-RIGHT-I lately? He proposes the same thing for OUR dissent. How are you rightwingers different again? Oh right, you haven't had your way long enough.

"But who cares when you can spew hatred and anti-american propaganda about this awful country, the US of A. F.U. I’m outta here. PLH, go Bears. Steed Lankershim"

You sound just like the Iranian thought police, your wife has taught you well. Why must you treat dissent with a 'hanging' sentence, and call others anti-american who disagree with your beliefs? Hypocrisy is an ugly thing, it's time for you to look in the mirror junior.

  159. WORFEUS Says:

Dude, you are talking about Jimmy Freakin Carter!

Holy Crap! I was getting laid when Carter was president, (which was a long time ago :), get over it!

This is the great RED HERRING of the right.

Were talking about changing the future, not what the Dems or Repubs did in the past.

Wanna talk about the past? How about how Hitler, another nobody who lulled a nation to sleep while he waged war on small little foriegn nations. He too was a Christian leader, and he too promoted pre-emptive war, torture, racial profiling, etc.....

While we can learn from the past, trying to downplay your own Presidents and parties CURRENT actions do nothing to correct the situation.

It is just a distraction to keep the left engaged, while your tyrannical dictator seizes power and wages bloody war for money, and control.

    You are a sheep. Baaaaaaa

  160. RightPunch Says:

"That resolution was in 1991 under GHBush, and it was he who established the no fly zone…
Oh, you left out Britain and France. More omissions dumbass? F.U. Steed Lankershim"

Why must you so intentionally lie and misrepresent what I say? Is it because I embarrassed you, and showed that you weren't prepared to debate the topic. How could Bush single handedly (or even Britain/France) create a UN Resolution? The UN security counsel does that - so why did you omit this fact, and resort to name calling? And besides, it was GHBush who created the DOCTRINE on how to read Resolution 688, and that's what I said.

Why are you so rude when you're proven wrong? You really should work on your manners junior, it doesn't look well for you or your side. It makes you look like sore losers and little lost boys.

  161. RightPunch Says:

    Worfeus,

Wasn't hitler funded by GWBush's grandfather? I remember reading something about how grandpa was fined for his involvement in financing the Hitler war machine. I wonder if he knew he was killing all of those innocent people, or even if he cared. Republicans don't seem to care much for the 'innocent', unless they supposedly haven't been born yet.

  162. WORFEUS Says:

I know, I know, WORFEUS is guilty too....before he says it....

    WORFEUS BAD.....

  163. WORFEUS Says:

That's true right. In October of 1942 the Feds seized the assets of Prescott Bush, dubya's granddad, under the Trading with the Enemy Act.

But it gets a lot juicier than that.

  164. WORFEUS Says:

There are ties to the actual construction of the Nazi death camps, like Buchenwald. The German company, and I will have to look this up, was called E G Faber, or Farber, or something like that, and it funded the construction of the death camps.

Now if he were a Dem, they'd have hung him by now.

  165. RightPunch Says:

    Worfeus,

And these republicans call liberals 'anti-american'. That's like the fact that Halliburton has been trading with Iran despite international sanctions that are supposed to ban american companies from doing business with them.

The problem: Federal sanctions have banned U.S. companies from dealing directly with Iran. To operate in Iran legally, U.S. companies have been required to set up independent subsidiaries registered abroad. Halliburton thus set up a new entity, Halliburton Products and Services Ltd., to do business in Iran, but while the subsidiary was registered in the Cayman Islands, it may not have had operations totally independent of the parent company.

The outcome: Unresolved. The Treasury Department has referred the case to the U.S. attorney in Houston, who convened a grand jury in July 2004.

  166. RightPunch Says:

And this was while Cheney was CEO. Republican corruption, greed and hypocrisy is really sad. I do believe most of these people both mean well, and rationalize their acts through some magic slight of hand without believing they're doing wrong. But it doesn't change the fact that so many of them act criminally without remorse or concern. It's really sad how common both the acts and their justification by the masses of republican minions occurs.

  167. WORFEUS Says:

Also I think it's important to point out, the George Walker, father in law to Prescott, and who Dubya's named after, founded the UBC, the company that Prescott was the director of, and that was seized under the trading with the enemy act.

This is why it's so funny that any liberals compare certain traits to the nazi's. Hell, his family got some of their wealth from the nazi's.

It's unbelievable that they were not locked up then. Someone greased someones pocket there, of this I am sure.

  168. WORFEUS Says:

    Wow RIGHTPUNCH,

I feel so uninformed next to you. I did not know that about Haliburton trading with Iran. That is, wow, holy crap...that's huge.

  169. WORFEUS Says:

    Holy crap....

  170. WORFEUS Says:

Making money off of war. It's in their blood.

  171. RightPunch Says:

    Worfeus,

I was always told that we feared the communists more than the fascists, because we had defeated the fascists. They were perceived as not having power, and therefore to not be a threat. In an effort to move on, they forgave many of the americans who had fascist activities. That's why you get a republican/fascist like Joseph McCarthy being able to target the 'commies', while he was allowed to walk free.

Extremists are dangerous, but america has never dealt with rightwing extremists - only left wing extremists. It's a real shame, because now we have an entire generation of rightwing extremists, just like the middle east does.

  172. RightPunch Says:

    Worfeus,

I found the Halliburton story on Salon, they're the well informed folks. I just found it archived on truthout as well.

    http://www.truthout.org/docs_05/011905D.shtml

It's full of scandalous and illegal Halliburton acts. It's easy to see why their Brown & Root division was referred to in Texas as 'Burn and Loot'.

    Comment by RightPunch

Not true. Washington, Adams, and even Jefferson knew they were aristocracy. But Adams said it best and defined the word for future American conservatives; "An aristocrat is someone that can command two votes, his own and another's". The aristocracy you are thinking of died in the Revolution.

What we have now are not aristocrats but elitists. Men who are better and smarter, far above the average but have no willingness to use their power for good and not evil, they think only of themselves. They are the chosen without the obligation of "nobles oblige". My guess is and equal number of them voted for Bush and Kerry. The big picture is obscured by the "coming attractions". It's always been that way.

Rightwingers have been here since the beginning (like Hamilton and the rest of the federalist freaks), but you guys have always been a discredited and unstable minority - just like you are today.

Hamilton was strictly a utilitarian. He wasn't a conservative.

Your political parties and movement always implodes from ineptitude - I can wait until you destroy yourselves - but you will always live in fear of me and people like me. I pity you.

All political parties implode from ineptitude. There is no greater example of that than the Democrats of today. Look at your base...freaks of every description. My mother is a Democrat by the way. She hates Bush. But what she doesn't know because it's very hard to become informed is....the Democratic Party no longer exists. The Radical Sophists now control things. Kennedy is dead.

How funny he doesn't make you comply. Especially since you've posted work from the 'brothersjudd' website. Are you to brothers? It would explain why he would let a hatemonger like you post racist epitaths purely out of his own egomania, and in direct conflict with the Terms of Use agreement.

I think Judd is a great researcher, but his blog management skills warrant him hiring a competent blogmaster. So far there is NO management here, and that's the biggest issue. My suspicion is that Judd's ego prevents him from ceding control to a competent person to manage things.

And his email was snotty and completely childish - I have to say I was shocked. His email was like a cross between Giacomo, I-RIGHT-I and mighty aphrodite. It makes me wonder whether maybe he might be the source of the trolls himself to 'spice' up the blog. That sort of threat tampering is not unheard of - and it would explain a lot about why their stories don't add up, and clearly they're fake personnas.

And Susan, I know Podesta is not a neo-con, so I believe a campaign to american progress for the hiring of responsible management of the blog is a more effective response than leaving the blog. I don't encourage anyone to leave this blog, other than the hate trolls.

  234. WORFEUS Says:

I don't have current numbers at my disposal, but the place to find them is the US Dept. Of Labor, who records these deaths.

Last year, around March, they released a report that showed some numbers.

As of March 2005, the most deaths sufferend by any of the 119 US firms operating in Iraq were suffered by a firm called Titan Corporation. Titan lost 163 employees which was well more than Haliburton, who up to that point had only lost 26, however there were 35 from one subsidiary alone, so I am not sure how accurate these reports are.

Big firms like Haliburton don't like releasing these numbers. Not exactly good for recruiting purposes.

Also, there is incredible hypocrisy in you not putting your own or Isreal's nuclear weapons on the negotiating table and expecting everyone else to give it up. The US's biasness and one-sided support for Isreal is the main reason for your lack of support in the Arab world. Outside the US, everyone and his mother knows that.

If you hadn't ovethrown a democratically elected and oriented government in the 1950s and installed the murderous Shah of Iran for the purposes of greater control over the oil, the US wouldn't be in such a situation. In other words, the Iranian Revolution was more or less created by your support for the Shah. (The word used by historians is "blowback")

Given that you have a record of FAILED interventions in the Middle East (including Saddam), there is no room for optimism about your chances of success this time around.

The amount of life-long entitlements that have to get paid by you and I for the wounded coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq is growing by the day, yet in 2005 the Republican controlled congress underfunded the VA in spite of the gap having been pointed out to them by Democrats several times. Just arrested a 15 year old boy for making a pipe bomb." When I asked him what he thought had changed in teh last 20 years he just said "People don't have morals anymore..."

If a child's greatest role model is their parent of the same sex, then the President has to be a close second for the young boys who grow up under his Administration. Look at the example Bush is setting. No wonder the youth of today is so violent. It's not their video games - it's their President using violence and fear to solve all problems....

The Nation -- It sounds as if Al Gore is about to deliver what could be not just one of the more significant speeches of his political career but an essential challenge to the embattled presidency of George W. Bush.

In a major address slated for delivery Monday in Washington, the former Vice President is expected to argue that the Bush administration has created a "Constitutional crisis" by acting without the authorization of the Congress and the courts to spy on Americans and otherwise abuse basic liberties.

Aides who are familiar with the preparations for the address say that Gore will frame his remarks in Constitutional language. The Democrat who beat Bush by more than 500,000 votes in the 2000 presidential election has agreed to deliver his remarks in a symbolically powerful location: the historic Constitution Hall of the Daughters of the American Revolution. But this will not be the sort of cautious, bureacratic speech for which Gore was frequently criticized during his years in the Senate and the White House.

However, since we have an idiot in office who doesn't know how to fight wars--its a double-eged sword. If we don't use military action against Iran if it becomes hostile, we will be screwed. If we do use military action against Iran if it becomes hostile, we will also be screwed since our commander-in-chief doesn't know how to fight wars. This is no FDR.

#218 - Unbelievable - I gave you too much credit. I thought you were capable of reading and digesting complete sentences. ("I am relieved"...pitiful - unless you're 8 years old.) I apologize. Due to your inability to connect the dots in my argument re: Russia vs. Iran, I will e-x-p-l-a-i-n it s-l-o-w-l-y to you.
a.) Communist fanatics in the former Soviet Union (and their "useful idiots" here and in other Western capitalist countries) were not utopians. They were power hungry communist atheists who worshipped at the altar of POWER. (Untwist your panties - this is not to say that all atheists are communists - though many are) The importance of this note, however, is to demonstrate the lack of fanatical religious zealotry in discussions with Russians from Stalin to Gorbachev. Their goal was not to kill us - their goal was to enslave us - more little worker beesfor the Soviet hive.
b.) Iran, on the the other hand has had a it's government in the tenacles of the extremists religious mullahs. This is not to say that all Muslims are extremists. Many of the younger generation are bravely keeping up with the outside world and taking to the streets when numbers afford them a measure of protection. The mullahs do not want to enslave us; they do not fear us (as Russia did). This was demonstrated back in 1979 when our hostages were captured. (I know you'll find THIS hard to believe, but George Bush the Elder and Younger had NOTHING to do with the hostage taking incident.) These barbarians HATE us with an intensity that cannot be resolved, short of a bullet or blow torch.

Your immature responses might be amusing if they were witty. Contact cynical hippie, JC War god, SpudgeMAN, or Worfeus. They are sharp, quick witted and alot of fun!I agree with them perhaps 10% of the time but their repartee is clever and intelligent. Wit wise, stay away from Susan, Marie, Mr. Susan, RyANNE - they seem sooo bitter and resentful they should be pitied.

its pretty apparent IRIs view of history only extends back Bohemia and the arianist RudolphII view. Such as if you have read my words IRI, you should have by now forgotten your prejudices. from Oetzi Aetzi thy both come, quite dark skinned, from Egypt around 75,000 years ago. Oetzi ended up frozen in ice, in the alps. As such IRI you shall find your minds equilibrium
    unstables you for you know of what I speak and that your Bias based upon color or hair or breed adds you no value;

Think about the words I say
for they are written a certain way
    Thoht is but motion
    and yours has gone astray

deep within each man burns that same light
be still lay quietly and loosen they grip
shake thy mind of bias and material

    for then and only then
    shall the path be initiated
see the number of man three

    three unfolding souls
    and three unfolding spirits
    and thy unfolding self

    forget your parties your money
for if you dont you shall never see
what is known and what isnt

do not meditate but lay quietly
    resonate reflect faster thus
for the inbalanced cross expands in your mind

    thought for function
    makes it to be
follow thy words listen to me

Besides, anyone who "knows" me knows that I will pop a cap in the ass of anyone who looks like MC Big Daddy Poppa that comes around too early in the morning, during meals, after dark and when the "Archie Bunker" re-runs are on.

Probably the only thing we agree on is the right to bear arms - though for entirely different reasons and with entirely different attitudes about it.

As long as the government has guns, so should the people bear arms to prevent the government from becoming threatening. I think the anti-gun sentiment is a ploy. After all guns don't kill poeple, paranoid nuts like you do (though I think even you wouldn't pull the trigger at a whim). Though, these days, not that it stops our current government (see Waco), they just make bigger guns...

  345. Clif Says:

Hey stan everyone here didn't vote for bush, he only got 51% of the vote and not everyone voted, to put it another way more people either voted for someone else or refused to vote for anyone, than voted for bush, the situation is not as set in stone as the bushites would have everyone around the world believe, More than 50% of americans oppose the war, the foriegn policy being pushed by a small group of people we call neocons who are the advisers that bush listens to.

  346. Evil Spaniard Says:

#348 Sorry, but without saying that all USA people is bushite, or pro-Iraq war, sadly a great majority in the USA is too comfortable reaching objectives with war. Not all wars, by far, are so "sanctified" as the WWII was, with Hitler and Hiro Hito invading peaceful countries and creating concentration camps. And even in WWII, the USA committed some "sins", as entering only when was directly attacked in Pearl Harbour... All the "partnership" with Great Britain was ignored 2 whole years...

  347. Clif Says:

Evil Spaniard Most of those here are not that confortable with what Bushco, inc. is doing.
They only came to power in an election that the supreme court gave to them on a vote of 5 to 4.
After 911 they began their march to invade Iraq while denying that they had made that decision.
The fact that they cooked the intell is pretty apparant to those who approach the issue with an open mind, but this time they might have overstepped thier ability to BS the american public with the relevation that they are wiretapping US citizens without a court order.
That is one of the crimes that brought Nixon down and we will have to wait and see if it resonates here but given the increasing levels of protest from people who are usually seen as not wacked out both on the left and right there is hope.
Americans prize their liberty and privacy and do not like the idea of the government snooping around with no oversight by the courts

  348. stan Says:

please give me hope that there are people in america who actually give a damn and are making efforts to change the political landscape .ive come out with the gloves off though im not so nieve as it would seem i know there are good people who really do care though you lot seem to be powerless against these neocons its a self profilling prophecy thats being played out here its sad that the lesson of sept 11 hasnt been learnt .what are you doing to impeach this bush {new hitler}?

  349. Clif Says:

Impeaching bush is not the only route to reining in his power, given the scandles that are surrounding his party in Washington, their is a good chance he will lose the rubberstamp that the US congress has become. That would make his foriegn design much harder to achieve, and the american public just doesn't trust him or the neocons he fronts for.

    Stan,

You do know that 60 million of us DIDN'T vote for Chimp, right? And how this is a forum for those people, right? And how, you should go find a conservative, Bush-worshipping blog where you can rant at people who disagree with you...

Your uniform commentary is about the same as me saying to you (except that I'd use better grammar and English in general):

"you limeys are getting what you deserve.. anyone who votes for a moron like blair deserves to suffer.. do you guys realise how hated you lot are for your cowtowing to the americans.. you think you're the smartest country? you're actually the biggest bunch of sniveling maniacs with bad teeth around ..your gonna burn and the world is watching and clapping."

#357 And if you bomb Iran, what makes you think they will not invade Iraq to shot at USA troops, or simply begin to harbor insurgents from Afghanistan and Iraq, making an axis of resistance who USA troops can't resist? Your quagmire in Iraq and Afghanistan would be tripled at least.

  357. Evil Spaniard Says:

There is no "axis of anything" the US Military can not resist especially coming from the middle east. The "quagmire" you speak of has never existed except in the demented and treasonous minds of losers like John Murtha and Ted Kennedy.

  361. Evil Spaniard Says:

#361 Yeah, yeah, it's because this that Bush is "phasing out" the troops on Iraq. It's no retreat, he isn't doing what Murtha suggested, because Bush don't do retreats, and Iraq is fully pacified. Yeah, right. And choppers aren't being targeted (two down this week) because USA is winning the war. And Pakistan is fully commited to his alliance to the USA after the civilian bombing. Yeah, rigth. And all the troops deployed have adequate armor. Yeah, right. Maybe you believe in fairy tales, but I'm a grown up.

    Comment by stan — January 17, 2006 @ 1:49 pm

The problem is our military leaders and government. They want to rule the world. And they make it clear that they have big weapons to keep the American people oppressed from even considering a physical Revolution. See Waco, Texas, when the government used military force against civilians (against the Constitution) and then Timothy McVeigh, a decorated Army hero who believed the government had just declared war on We the People, retaliated by blowing up the Murrah Building from where the order was issued against the civilians in Waco - where more civilians were killed. McVeigh was later executed for this offense. And the violence just continues to escalate...

See how they keep us oppressed?

As Gandhi said "An eye for an eyes make the whole world blind."

What? That's not exactly what he said, or meant. And you know it. I didn't say to take everything Gandhi had ever said and live your life by it to the letter - just that one piece of wisdom was worth acknowledging in this case. Stop with the absolutes already... it's puerile.
