We are, of course, free to not watch him. We are also free to write to CNN and tell them that this is a sure way to lose viewership. Personally, I have no use for the man, but I have to defend his constitutional right to say the stupid, insipid, hate-filled things he says.
MSNBC recently hired Tucker Carlson and now CNN hires Beck. What will it take for a cable show to hire someone with a liberal point of view? MSNBC had Phil Donahue, whose ratings were high, but still thought it was a good idea to let him go, probably because Donahue dared to be one of the few voices, if not the only voice, to have guests on his show who advocated an anti-war position. So much for the idea that hearing one point of view, in a medium that influences so many people,is a possibility in a country that considers itself a democracy.
#15 – I equally loathe Tucker Carlson and Glenn Beck, but I wouldn’t put them on equal footing. Beck makes Carlson look like a sweet drooling little baby. Of course, a lot of people make Carlson look that way — I’m just saying in terms of wingnuttia.

I don’t know if this has been reported in America but in Britain yesterday: Iran puts ban on CNN
16th Jan 2006
Iran said it was barring CNN from working in Iran “until further notice” due to its mistranslation of comments made by the president in a recent press conference.
The ban, by the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry, was read in a statement on state-run television.
“Due to mistranslation of the words of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his press conference, activities of the American CNN in Tehran are banned until further notice,” the statement said.
In a speech on Saturday, Ahmadinejad had defended Iran’s right to continue nuclear research.
State media have complained since the speech that CNN used the translation “nuclear weapons” instead of “nuclear technology.”
Yeah Gary, CNN learned this from out dear prez, Mr. Bush who will go around the country demonizing Irans nuclear research as nuclear weapons research.
Bush is all poised to take this issue to the people of the mid-south and south, his 40 percent you know, and repeat it over and over again. You will not hear that IAEA has inspectors on the ground in Iran and are satisfied that the research going on is for peaceful purposes. All you will see in the media is the danger that Bushlandia perceives from nuclear “weapons”.
Then about August of this year Bush will ask congress for permission to invade Iran and anyone voting atainst the resolution will be swift boated to no end.
Result – in the mid-term elections Bush will claim that only the repukes can protect us from such. Only his 40 percent will vote for the house and senate members up for re-election but the results will be, as always, 51 – 49.
When does Randi Rhodes get her own show on a major cable network…..Glenn Beck is a third rate Rush clone, and of course a former drug addict. Its only a matter of time before he pulls a Michael Savage and loses his show…..
Guess its not the Communist News Network anymore ha Rethug-licans…..
CNN was allowed to “resume its activities” in Iran Tuesday, the country’s official news agency reported, after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asked that a ban on CNN journalists be lifted and the network be allowed to continue its work there.
Too bad for Bush, the mean old Iranian President isn’t so mean or old from what I can tell.
thanks for the update SpudgeBoy. So the error occurred as a result of 1 interpreter? Nothing is proofread? So why is an incompetent/right-wing interpreter hired in the first place?Another scapegoat if you ask me – after the damage is done, the horse has bolted then the door is locked (again).
I agree Paul, in these terrible times Americans need all the allies they can get – those allies who understand most of you are appalled at what is happening and are almost powerless to stop it. Keep up the pressure, you will prove to the world and yourselves you are better than this!
I agree, I like Jack Cafferty. His facial expression say alot. I’m surprised he’s still at CNN, as he seems to be his own person and is known for calling a spade a spade.
Screw it- we need to find the factory that makes these f@cking Rethug Talking Robots and then blow it to smithereens.
And #26, I’ll wager that after Al Gore spoke yesterday, you muttered to yourself that you wish he would just “shut up” or that the media shouldn’t give him the opportunity to attack glorious King George. So much for open-mindedness.
You “conservatives” ought to be ashamed of having loathsome dunderheads like Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, and Coulter speak for you. Can’t you find smarter, more honest, and less vitriolic spokespeople?
“Conservatives” (Actually, Bush apologists) might get the majority of airtime, but all of their collective bloviating doesn’t change the fact that they reflect the minority view in this country.
Don’t you all want Glenn Beck on TV? What would you think if Bill Falafel O’Rielly didn’t have his evening spitel tantrum? Has any one asked CNN who’s going to take ad time with his show? As long as they don’t have a stooge boy like Alan Combs to be his reciepient of a bitch slapping, let the market forces take over.Rush Limbaugh has got to be hating life. He can’t even buy a tv show. Were we promised Glenn Beck’s show would be News.?Entertainment? Jon Stewart is on during the DAY.
Where CNN used to be a boring piece of crap station that I’d never watch, even in the case of a national event, my family of 4 will be tuning in to watch Glenn Beck!
What a great move by the brass to get some talent in that prime time slot to pull their station out of the crapper!!
GET LEXUS TOYOTA. SINGLE ONE OF THEM OUT AS SPONSORS OF THERIGHTWING MEDIA. AFTER THAT GO AFTER A BEER. THEN A SODA. FOR JUST ONE MONTH IF EVERY LIBERAL WERE TO BOYCOTT A BRAND ADVERTISED ON RIGTWING MEDIA YOU WOULD SEE A STOCK MARKET CRASH OF THAT BRAND. UP TO YOU FOLKS?? REMEMBER CNN MSNBC FOX AND OTHERS CANNOT BULLSHIT WITHOUT “STAY WITH US, WE’LL BE BACK AFTER A BREAK.” WHO IS GOING TO START THE BALL ROLLING? I AM THATS WHO.
Let’s wait and see how long Glenn Beck will be on CNN after we leave Iraq. This, as MR. Ne Moose has proved, to be a respect for the new electoral dynamic , mainly Military familes.
you’re right bobbytoo,
lets boycott the man that setup a charity auction for katrina victims.
boycott the man that held a benifit to send a disabled girl to privite school after she was raped in her school gym, and the school officals asked the parents not to call police.
boycott him before he can hold more rallies that build troop morale, or ask his listeners to buy phone cards for soldiers to be able to call home.
silence the man so he can no longer grant christams gifts to struggeling families.
mute this hate monger before he spreads his views to the masses. how can anyone trust that his statements that it is not about left and right, but right and wrong when he works on talk radio.
I love listening to Glenn Beck! Its about time some of the networks in the mainstream media figured out that they needed more of a conservative voice to attract more viewers.
#15 Donahue’s ratings tanked from the get-go. When was the last time a network pulled a show with good ratings to be responsible?

Hey evil Al-Cracker,
nominations for canonization are next year at the vatican bookstore…
If Beck is the best “voice” you conservatives can produce, your party is truly devoid of intelligent thought.
I don’t give a good god-damn how many “support the troops” rallies this clown has had- I’ve heard his toxic spiel and he has no place in the mainstream media. You may think him courageous for his unconventional views- the rest of us find him pathetic and creepy and dead wrong.
Clueless liberals. Glenn Beck is the voice of reason. If more people where like him, this world would be alot better then it is today. He has done ALOT of people. Get a grip and actually listen to the show
Liberals be happy that you are getting someone on your corrupted news network that will bring in some ratings and a decent crowd of viewers. Maybe there will be an accidental black X placed on his head during his show every now and again. So like I said just get use to it. I am sure that you will find some way to get him off the air.
Stop blasting him for supporting our troops. You liberals who do not support our troops do more harm to them than you think. You are acting like Tokyo Rose and the Nazi propeganda during WWII. If you oppose the war fine but just say thank you to a soldier when you see them. They are there trying to help protect your freedom and your way of life.
Jackal,
No offense to the soldiers, for they are fighting where their fearless leader sends them- but how is the Iraq war a fight to protect our “freedom” and “way of life?” When did Iraq attack us? They didn’t even have the capability to attack us. Al Quaeda attacked us on 9-11. Bin Laden, the leader of said group, is still in hiding.
You forget Redleg, that we are not only fighting in Iraq but also in Afghanistan. We are trying to find Bin Laden and you know that. You cannot say that Iraq did not have the potential to attack us. If this was true we would not be having the resistance we are presently having. You are right it was Al-Quaeda who did attack us, but remember who turned the Sudanese down to have Bin Laden captured and extradite to Saudi Arabia for us to handle with. That would be Mr. Clinton. Fighting over there right now is protecting our freedom and our way of life. If we were not there trying to eradicate the terrorist then they would be over here trying to do the same to us. I know your post came before the new tape release of Bin Laden but he promises to do more destruction. I feel safer knowing that we are taking care of business over there than here and having a potential another 9-11 on our hands.
Jackal,
I am so glad you feel safer now that Big Daddy Bush has launched an unnecessary war in Iraq. You seem quite capable of all sorts of mental gymnastics to convince yourself of Bush’s divinity and the rightness of the Iraq War in protecting us Americans here at home.
There is really no sense in even discussing this with you, even though within 5 years, Iraq will still be in a state of chaos, we’ll still be fighting the never-ending war on terror, and Bush apologists will still be making the same tenuous arguments to support Bush’s foreign policy and national security disasters.
And, by the way, I have not forgotten about our military operations in Afghanistan. I am reminded quite often about them when I read about the re-emergence of the Taliban and the difficult situation our soldiers face over there, having been largely forgotten by Bush since Iraq is a bigger, better war to use for political purposes.
Jackal,
Actually, I would feel much safer if YOU were one of the soldiers fighting in Iraq. You know, doing your part to put an end to the Islamofascist threat that is bent on destroying America.
Redleg,
You forget about the WWII when the Japanese bombed us and we went to war against them and Germany. Now clearly we didn’t need to go and declare war on the Germans what did they do to us. That was a called made by a democrat. Second point is that lets look at the state that Vietnam is presently in. That war was the result of another democrat Kennedy. Last but not least lets not forget about Kosovo and Clinton. Three dems that have gone to war and for what reasons. I am also suprised that you have read about Afghanistan. This being that almost all of the media out there is for the left. Only reports the bad and not the good. So enjoy your news media that presents information only half truth.
Jackal,
Several points to respond to your view:
Point 1. Surely you don’t equate Saddam Hussein’s Iraq of 2003 with Hitler’s Germany of 1941. As we have seen, Iraq’s conventional forces were quickly overwhelmed by our forces within months of the invasion. As we now know, Iraq did not possess any significant quantities of WMDs or the means to deploy them in a way as to threaten the United States. Hitler, however, did have a large, well-trained and well-equipped military that put a serious hurt on our allies in western Europe as well on on the Soviet Union. Germany could not be contained but Iraq could be contained and was contained.
2. I see that you resorted to changing the subject and blaming Democratic presidents for things that aren’t even remotely related to the Iraq war. Bringing up FDR and Kennedy? Jeebus, they didn’t force Bush to launch a war on Iraq. They’re both as dead as Julius Caesar. I didn’t invoke those two Dem presidents so why do you throw them in my face?
3. Not only did Bush change the focus from the “war on terror” to the war in Iraq, Bush did a piss-poor job executing the war in Iraq- he and his neocon cabal had no friggin’ plan for the aftermath of the initial invasion and appeared to be unaware and/or unconcerned about the potential serious negative consequences of invading Iraq. We can disagree about the rightness of invading Iraq but you can’t honestly believe that the occupation has been executed well.
4. Nice try blaming that good ol’ right-wing whipping boy, the “lib’rul media.” Why don’t you blame Bush, et al. for the problems we face? Oh- I forgot- Republicans don’t make mistakes. LOL.
Pet peeve: Please don’t use the term “neocon” to refer to right-leaning people. A neocon is really a socialist who supports a strong military and is not opposed to its justifiable use.
Screw CNN. They lost their place in the world when Ted sold the team.

LOL.
January 19th, 2006 at 11:28 pmPet peeve: Please don’t use the term “neocon” to refer to right-leaning people. A neocon is really a socialist who supports a strong military and is not opposed to its justifiable use.
