[...] “Hillary’s disgraceful pandering” refers to Slick Hillary saying, to a mostly black crowd, that under Republicans the House is being run “like a plantation.” (Reports that Hillary ended her speech by shouting “I’m black, too!” while throwing the “Wu-Tang Clan” hand sign could not be confirmed as of press time.) Truly, an unprecedented outrage. If you are wondering why Tigerhawk is comparing this sadly typical piecw of Hillaria to Trent Lott saying, to an entirely white Republican crowd, that racial segregation could have spared the country a lot of unpleasantness … um, yeah, join the club. Trent Lott was then forced to resign his Majority Leader position because, well, he was embarrassing. Republicans have spent a lot of time and energy searching for an “oh, yeah, well wuddabout …” example to neutralize the Trent Lott embarrassment, and this Hillary business is their latest airball, offending as it did, at last count, some white Republicans in Iowa. And this, along with the Republican re-definition of “racist” as “someone who is mean to Michelle Malkin”, and along with endless other examples, continue to display that - except for occassional, highly awkward team scrimmages with this political football - Republicans just don’t care about issues of race.
Nope, its not called “hardball”, its called bribing, bullying, extorting, breaking the rules, abuse of power, and a corrupted power elite, and its LIKE “Running a Plantation”…and you are in denial.

Yep, that's hardball all right but if the black caucus wants to call it a plantation it's ok with me. Oh and before you say anything Hillary as you may or may not know is our first black senator from New York.

I RIGHT I, you are ignoring the act on the floor of the house where the GOP delayed the end of the vote, twisted arms to change votes then let the clock expire thus winning the bill passage for the Republicans. THAT was a clear example of our Congress being run like a plantation. You could not reply to that, could you ?

So? It's called hardball. The Donks used to be pretty darn good at it when it was their turn to pitch. I just hate crybabies.

Hillary was right on. She was talking to an audience who really knew what plantation management mentality was from their forebearers,

That's funny. Those people are so far removed from any concept of slavery except that slavery liberalism has thrust upon them that they wouldn't know cotton picking from picking their nose.

Hillary took a cheap shot, one of many, timed to coincide with MLK's birthday and Black History Months & Months and designed to arouse the fever in the mob. Just what we need.

Hillary was right on. She was talking to an audience who really knew what plantation management mentality was from their forebearers, and everyone has heard of the "Bananna-Republican". For example, if the plantation workers step out of line and don't do the master's bidding, then the master sends his whipping boy (Tom DeLay, et.al.) down to the FLOOR OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, and while the time allotted for voting is extended, forces the slaves to CHANGE thier votes, and THEN lets the clock expire. This is unprecedented for our Democracy, Unprecedented for our Republic, and yes, RUN LIKE A PLANTATION. EAT IT.

theres a good point....anyone think with all his brilliant quotes Newt will win a presidential election??? No?
Sooo if Hilary makes the same kind of comments she'll be elected becauuuuse????

You and i can say what ever we want...we aren't running but when elections are close like say presidential elections, its the person who talks about what he/she will be doing not the person who talks about how bad the other guy is.

Hilary will probably win in NY but not much of a feet if the GOP doesn't nominate anyone. I heard a wise man once say we all have occasion to shoot ourselves in the foot. We all understand. We learn from it accept our mistakes and ove on. But shooting yourself in the foot over and over again to prove its the other guy who shot himself in the foot is lunacy.

You know i agree with 189 the bold part. If the only argument you have sounds like "well...you suck!" no one is ever going to listen besides you.

Seems to me that if something is wrong it's wrong. You do it i do it they do it we do it....Its wrong. The "aha.you do it too, so don't talk" Doesn't wash with me. If one can't admit and see ones own mistakes i think you are headed for failure. It's even worse when i hear "well it's ok because you do it more than me" I actually heard someone say that they googled democratic plantation and Republican plantation and concluded that since there are 10 times as many hits for republican plantation republicans are 10 times as wrong. what horse manuer

Seems to me that the term plantation has a slave connotation. Over the top comparisons might sound great at a rally but they only serve after the fact to show that emotions are more important the the actual facts...Shame on anyone who thinks that gets them ahead...Democrat or Republican.

I predict which ever side appears to call the other side the most names....will lose the next presidential election.

I agree with Senator Clinton's "plantation" comment.

Yes, House Representatives and the Senate are the so called Slaves and Bush is master, and do not say anything against the master or his policies. I can see the relation.

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28     And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Finally - to the point behind this blog. The Hillary / Plantation issue as justified by the Gingrich /Plantation issue. Neither were the best choice of words. I suspect both were made with a political bent in mind. Right or Wrong ... for better or worse ... politicians spend part of their time making statements inorder to get attention and to reassure their base that they haven't forgotten them. And when they start to get close to running for office - they need the publicity. Poorly worded or not, both statements come across to the base as "I haven't forgotten you and I'm still fighting the other side" and even possibly "Don't forget to vote for me, I haven't forgotten you." And in the present ... Hillary is running in 2006 and possibly 2008 ... so she really needs the publicity. And if it is free ... approved by her base (as implied by the comments listed here) ... so much the better for her. And according to FoxNews Alan Colmes this isn't the first time she's made the comment ... so I suspect she knew how it would play to her base. BTW - he was defending her ... for those who think Fox is nothing but a right wing news organization.

#182 - I completely agree. I am surprised by the level of hatred and ugliness displayed on this site. One side makes a statement - the other side responds with insults of the worst nature. Regardless of your political party you must realize that when you have to belittle your opponent to boost your point you come out the loser. And other readers are left with the impression that you have no rational or facts to back your objection – otherwise you would have stated them. Both the Republican and the Democratic Parties have points in their histories that can be touted for their benefit or touted for the benefit of the other party (look and see what we didn’t do).

Now for a few facts that will no doubt have some questioning my parentage, intelligence and making a crude statement punning my signature … primarily because they won’t like what I have to say.

Neither the 2000 nor the 2004 elections were “stolen”.

The 2000 election was a statistical anomaly that has always been possible, i.e. that one candidate will win the popular vote and the other win the Electoral College. The statistical deviation on that is very small and speaks to how divided this nation was then and remains today. And like it or not, the Constitution calls for the Electoral process – not a popular vote. If you don’t like it … then petition your representatives to change it. And just for the record ... the guy I voted for lost – a fact that I am very happy about when I watch him these days. At the end of the Clinton presidency (hopefully the only one) VP Gore had some good moments that gave me hope for him, but to see the levels of vitriol he has fallen to makes me sad.

The 2004 charge of a stolen election … I have heard that charge made in context to the Ohio elections where I live. That election went under strict scrutiny by the Secretary of State for Ohio as required by our state Constitution and was certified as valid with the caveat that while there were some cases of questionable practices … they did not amount to enough votes – even if 100% had gone to John Kerry – to swing the state. If you’ll recall it was actually several days before that election was certified because the Secretary of State wanted to make sure he got it right – not my opinion but his public statement on the issue.

But I know you don’t want to hear that. There are those who have gone so far as to imply that since the Secretary of State for Ohio is a Republican – that his certifying the election is a joke. And others have suggested that all of the questionable practices happened in black neighborhoods – implying that if the “black vote” had been counted that Kerry would have won. Just a few more facts: the Secretary of State for Ohio is a Republican … he is also a black man. To imply that his being a Republican for however many years would override his black heritage must be an insult to him and his family. I also know of specific cases where white voters, male white voters - who had been voting in the same place for over a decade, had suddenly fallen off the roll books with no explanation … so the oddities were not contained (or worse directed) at black neighborhoods.

And it is obvious that the majority of voters of Ohio did not have a problem with that certification because the Constitutional Amendment that was put on last years ballot to move the certification from the Secretary of State failed by a wide margin.

Finally to imply that Condi Rice isn’t black because she works for President Bush or because she is a Republican is an insult to a woman who has worked hard to get where she is. She should be held up as an example of how – while the work isn’t finished – there has been progress made in leveling the playing field between races and genders. Perhaps instead of a vertical cliff it is more of a steep hill climb … just so you don’t accuse me of not recognizing that there is more work done to level that playing field. Though we probably wouldn’t agree on the best way level that field.

Jim,

What good are freedoms if you are dead? You speak in nebulous terms about constitutional freedoms being impinged, but I have yet to hear of any real abuses. We are at war and Presidents do radical things to win wars. FDR imprisoned over 100,000 american citizens with the only solid evidence against them was that they were of the wrong ethnicity.

Lincoln threw dissenters into prison diring the Civil War. To win wars, sometimes you must do some radical things.

BTW, you know about Echelon right? Evidence exists that Clinton used that program to eavesdrop on americans during his time in office as well. You may dispense with your faux outrage towards Bush on this issue, it is purely a partisan disagreement.

"As if those three millions had fought for the right to be free themselves, but to hold in slavery three millions others. Now-a-days, men wear a fool's cap, and call it a liberty cap. I do not know but there are some, who, if they were tied to a whipping-post, and could get but one hand free, would use it to ring the bells and fire the cannons, to celebrate their liberty. So some of my townsmen took the liberty to ring and fire; that was the extent of their freedom; and when the sound of the bells died away, their liberty died away also; when the powder was all expended, their liberty went off with the smoke.
"The joke could be no broader, if the inmates of the prisons were to subscribe for all the powder to be used in such salutes, and hire the jailors to do the firing and ringing for them, while they enjoyed it through the grating."

Wow! I am always surprised at how easily distracted the American electorate can get from what should be alarming, and frightening to them. Is this one word, or even this one woman the biggest of Americas problems? Does anyone even see the dismantling of constitutional protections hundreds of years old?

I agree with #184...

Neither comment was really acceptable. However, one should consider the audience/context when making a judgement as to who was worse. Newt was speaking to a WaPo reporter when he made his statement. It was a very poor choice of words to be sure, an insult to what the slaves on plantations suffered.

Hillary speaking at a church in Harlem on MLK day, clearly trying to play to her audience, trying to inflame racial passions makes her statement reprehensible.
