Fishy, fishy, fishy, where has that fishy gone?

  2. SpudgeBoy says:

“Abramoff had “a few staff-level meetings” at the Bush White House, presidential spokesman Scott McClellan said Tuesday. But he would not say with whom Abramoff met, which interests he was representing or how he got access to the White House.”

Because if you follow the rabbit down the hole, you find Bush meeting with Abramoff. And we all know Scott McClellan wouldn’t lie about the president not knowing who Abramoff is, right?

    Yeah right.

They’ll be singing Lindsey Graham’s tune before the courts before long.
Will you believe me when I say I don’t remember Jack-OFF?

  4. Pete Bogs says:

they won’t say anything about anything, because everything is an ongoing investigation…

yes, they’ll say the press have made Abramoff’s wife cry, then try to use that to distract from their own corruption…

  6. Gus the Loving OBGYN says:

If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?

Could you get a grip on the reality I don’t “Jack OFF”?

  7. cynical ex-hippie says:

So Bush had a staff-level meeting with Abramoff, but never atually met him?

Yeah. Now he’ll need to come down with Alzheimers to make that defense believeable.

By the way, the Republicans have stepped out to clean up Washington once again.

And the fact is that the Democrats have no other options except

    a) join the Republican plan
    b) obstruct the Republican plan
    c) propose an identical plan and insist it’s somehow better

  11. Granite State Destroyer says:

The Republicans are dedicated to cleaning up the ethical and criminal swamp that they filled-up after campaigning in 1994 to end corruption and ethical lapses.

In a related story, the KKK has endorsed Martin Luther King Day.

  12. Optimist says:

    Gary,
I have not read the republican plan yet but I think your assessment is premature and a bit biased. Especially since your attitude presupposes that the republicans have a leg up on the democrats when it comes to cleaning up corruption, which based upon the current exposures is more than a little presumptuous.

I hope that they come up with a plan that is real and has teeth to it and not some facade that just allows more of the same. I’m certain that you would agree that corruption in the government harms all americans and it is not a party issue.

  13. Keith H. says:

The White House is refusing to reveal details

Of course they are, there’s no doubt that it’s in their best interest to do so. They have a good reason to be the most secretive administration in history. They would be jailed otherwise.

Stepped up, or embarrassed down based on overwhelming polling and public pressure that threatens to destroy their election changes in 2006? And why are you so sure the republican plan is good – have you read it? What’s your plan Gary, and why do you just complain instead of offering solutions? I know you’re afraid of the truth and all of the ‘liberal ideas’ of tolerance, love, honesty and integrity – but when you become an adult and adopt those values – we’ll welcome you with open and forgiving arms.

  16. RightPunch says:

So the funny thing is Abramoff’s crime was giving donations in exchange for a vote – and yet campaign contributions aren’t being banned based on what I’ve seen so far. Interesting how republicans make everything illegal, except what was criminally related. There also doesn’t appear to be anything in the proposals to handle the ‘wife problem’, where Delay’s wife and many other Republican wives got cushie consulting gigs as bribes.

If we really want to clean up politics, then lobbying tied to campaign contributions and related ‘donations’ must all be halted. I’m up for making lobbying illegal, or public campaign financing. Either way, the quid pro quo payoffs need to stop, and this is just the point. I think a fair tradeoff is that you can either give campaign contributions, or you can lobby, but you can’t do both. After all, isn’t a contribution a ‘lobby’ enough for anyone paying attention?

When Asked White House Changes Tune, Abramoff All over the White House?…

Well it looks like the White House has changed it tune…
What do you expect from a bunch of liars.A few weeks ago the White House made it very clear that Jack Abramoff had almost nothing to do with the White House. They said, at best, he may have com…

  19. LegalTender says:

The point man on indian affairs inside the White House for years was James M. Kelly — who quit several weeks ago to start a K-Street firm named Phoenix Strategies.

His are the phone logs and appointment calendar most likely to reflect Abramoff’s name.

  20. AkaDad says:

The only way to truly limit corruption is public financing.

Politicians wouldn’t be wasting our tax dollars, by spending half their day sucking up to campaign contributors.

Public financing takes away the inherent conflict of interest, when a campaign contributor does business with Government.

I’ts like why the media is corrupt, in that they survive on advertisement money from corporations. How can the media do negative reporting on the people that pay your bills? You don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

Another benefit of public financing is good, qualified people, that are not millionaires, could run for office.

  21. lickspittle says:

Happy Birthday, Ben Franklin. We miss you and need you more than ever.

  22. Mark says:

Of course they will not mention anything…this is an ongoing investigation. Of course that only applies when the investigfation is going to nail their ass. And in truth the less they say the less it can be proven that they are lying. It take s lot of work to get the lies of hundreds of people synched up with some vauge semblance of the truth.

  23. snookered says:

It should be reported loud and clear that Bush and Abramoff met in the White House….LOUD and CLEAR! Let the White House deny they met if they did not. Otherwise these corrupt officials will continue to lie and decieve in furtherance of there idiological goals.
When will American leaders be held accountable????

  24. big papa says:

They won’t reveal whose lap he sat on either…

    Brokeback staff meetings…

  25. house resolution 635 says:

anybody else notice that jack looks alot like boris badenov with his black coat and hat?

    who did he meet with?

i would say he is in a secret club with rove and hallichainy, at the least, eh?

some of the meetings were to tell the wh what’s up with this investigation so rove could try to figure out some talking points to deflect the coming storm…..

thus, the talking point that dems did it too…..although that has already been debunked….

who knows how much of the truth gets out tho, when they say over and over again the same lies….

most of their lapdogs and true believers pick it up and keep lying…..eh?

  26. Preznit_Douchebag says:

Wonder how long it will take for Snotty McClellan to finally explode into a massive shower of shit? That guy is completely stuffed with it. Of course, that’s what he gets paid for. Not to defend the guy or anything, but he just might have the worst job in the world.

    Comment by Gary Ruppert — January 17, 2006 @ 8:28 pm

I’m sorry to have to say it, Mr. Ruppert (your psedonym), b ut it appears that you are still a little confused about what the meaing of the word “fact” is. It means information that is true. Or do you not what what “true” means, either?

What the rerpublicans plan to do is as little as possible. They are going to make a few minor changes and deny that the problem is as widespread as it is. They are putting people in charge of finding solutions to their dilemma who were major players in the corruption to begin with (such as Sen Rick “Man on Dog” Santorum).

Do you support the K-Street Project? Do you support “pay for play” (their own term for it)? Do you support the idea that lobbying firms were being forced to hire Republicans and to donate to various PACs if they wanted legislation writtten their way (or in their own words)? Is this the system you want to defend? Go ahead, it will make you so much worse than you do.

The Democratics will offer their own plan to day and I predict that it will be unsatisfactory. I don’t know what’s in it, but I don’t know if any of them want to change the system all that much. I think what they would prefer is to continue the system with them in charge instead. I hope I am very wrong about this.

Campaign financing reform must accompany any lobbying rule changes. In addition to federally funded campaings (as mentioned above, which is an idea worth debating), I also believe in what I call “Indistrict Financing” which means you can only receive campaign contributions from people (not businesses or groups or PACs) whom you will be representing in Congress. Without campaign finace reform, lobbying reform is meaningless.

  28. Cyra Brown says:

Republicans in the House SHOULD have to clean up the current mess, THEY are the ones who made it!!! But as they have no ethics or ability to operate openly, and by the rules, it once again falls to the Democrats to put things right again, till the next time Republicans wreck it all. This is a continuing pattern. Tiresome.

    Scary Pookbutt,

    They chose “C”

Democrats offered a plan with more uuumph…

    How do they differ?

Dems want ALL appointees slated to head Federal Agencies to submit documents that show they’re eminently qualified for the position…

Dems want Senators and Congresspersons who are departing and will be taking positions in private industries to be required to fully disclose their intentions BEFORE they depart in an effort to prevent future conflicts of interest whereby (like (R) Billy Tauzin) they vote on (or push legislation) specifically affecting the company at which they intend to become employed…

Dems want an outright ban on gifts period…

Dems want all legislation to be provided for full review 24 hours BEFORE a vote is taken on them…

They fell short of the mark, but I somehow feel will introduce after all is said and done an elimination of earmarks, and also campaign donation rules which act as glaring loopholes (if not addressed)…
