“Now we’re going to say you can’t have a meal for more than 20 bucks,” said Senator Trent Lott, Republican of Mississippi. “Where are you going, to McDonald’s?”
We should be fair to Ted Kennedy and raise the limit to $25, that would make it easier for Teddy to go to Hooters with a few of his lawyer/lobbyist friends.
Although that limit would have to be raised to $35 if Ted stuffs money in the cleavage of the waitresses there.
The fact is that Democrat ethics plans are even lighter and less stringent than Republican ethics plans.
Trent…. Yes, McDonalds will do fine. . . why the hell do you get to act like royality when your job is to run the country? Seems you’ve forgotten why the hell you are in Washington, D.C. Hey Trent, how about ZERO bucks for anything? Don’t you have an office? Let them come to see you and convince you to support them based on the value of their arguments and not the size of their checks or the quality of the golf course!
Most of these congressman get good benefits, good health care, retirement, and are pretty well off. The GUY making Min wage doesnt get a FREE lunch, why Should NEWT and his cronies, Democrat and repub et all, get one?
Isnt that backasswards to improving society as a whole. The Salus Populi?
of course a smart MBA guy like bush would know that right?
Naw, keep the people, his own people ‘down’, because he ‘doesnt know’, and supports poverty level wages.
With minimum wage the way it is, $25.00 is more than some people can afford to spend on food for the entire day! Trent Lott is a fat pig! with apologies to pigs
God, what a f**king insult! I saw this clip last night and the moment he said it I just had to blurt out to noone in particular, “F**k You, man!”
$20 will buy lunch for 3 people at McDonald’s. Lunch is not supposed to be a feast or sit down ‘dinner’ every f**king day. Just eat your sh!t and get back to work. Whatever it is that you do. Sheesh! Talk about out of touch arrogance.
Was it Tip O’Neil that said “You have to be able to look them in the eye, eat their food, drink their liquor, take their money but still vot against them and for your constituents in the morning.” or something like that.
That’s all we ask. Vote for the people who live in your district, not someone who gave you a gazillion dollars.
They get a salary, they get platinum health benefits, even if they are indicted criminals they get pensions(Duke Cunningham will recieve his pension in spite of his GUILTY plea); and they want free meals to boot. Try living like the rest of us, working 8+ hours a day at the office, brown bagging it.
Culture of corruption indeed. I mean, the very nature of a position in Congress is to REPRESENT YOUR CONSTITUENCY. Many people have been swayed by the promise of money from special interests, and that saddens me, as I’m sure it saddens others.
#2 – And yet its the Republicans who have been caught red-handed with both hands, both feet, and any other body part they can find stuck firmly into cookie jar of the hobby-lobby people. Why do you think that is?
Could it possibly be because the Republican so-called “ethics” are lower than the belly button on a snake? Or maybe it’s because of the so-called liberal media. Yeah! That’s it! Blame someone (ANYONE) else! Don’t you DARE take personal responsibility for your own actions! Can’t do it! Not at this juncture! Wouldn’t be prudent!
No matter how much you twist the facts, or spin the news, this is one Republican scandal that is completely and totally the fault of “Republican ethics” and their continually lowered standards for themselves.
#14 In what context did Bush say that about the poor? I would love to know the source as I am thinking of making it the quote on next year’s Christmas Card. Thanks.
I just wonder how many of these tools go to work in the House or Senate carrying a lunch and snack packed from home, like the majority of the working stiffs they’re supposed to represent do, me included. Today’s lunch: Campbells Chicken Noodle soup, prepared in the office pantry. Cost: $1.09. I don’t know many out there that can afford to spend $20 a day for LUNCH.
The fact is that Democrat ethics plans are even lighter and less stringent than Republican ethics plans.

Dems want Senators and Congresspersons who are departing and will be taking positions in private industries to be required to fully disclose their intentions BEFORE they depart in an effort to prevent future conflicts of interest whereby (like (R) Billy Tauzin) they vote on (or push legislation) specifically affecting the company at which they intend to become employed…

Oh no! Poor baby! HOw dare someone say he can’t waste tax dollars on an expensive meal in a fancy retaurant! How dare they say he can’t have a lobbysit pay for it in exchange for legislative favour!
…and here I thought Republicans were the “common everyday people.” Didn’t they try to say only Republicans are out of touch with the people and “elitists”. I don’t hear the Democrats crying about eating ONLY a $20 meal or not getting private lobbyist flights to private golf clubs.
I know a lot of people who can afford to spend $20 a day for lunch but none of them do it. A working lunch though kiddies is different from lunch at work as you’d know if you hadn’t skipped all those classes in high school and had to drop out of college.
I don’t know what the prices are in DC but I can tell you that you can’t get out of a shitty little chain restaurant here in Houston for less than $10 a head. Still, I don’t feel sorry for any of them but sure as hell we crack down on them I’m going to be limited in what I can do for my clients and I don’t like that at all. Not that you chicken soup folks give a care.
Still, I don’t feel sorry for any of them but sure as hell we crack down on them I’m going to be limited in what I can do for my clients and I don’t like that at all. Not that you chicken soup folks give a care.
James Guckert? Is that you?
Hate to break it to you, but it’s already illegal to accept money from clients for your kind of services, ethics reform or no.
Hey Trent, there’s always Subway. A nice six-inch roasted chicken sandwich with lettuce, onions, tomatoes for under $5. With a value meal that includes a bag of chips and soda pop, or water, it’s less than $8.
Oh, and the best part, you can eat it on your porch that Bubble boy wants to sit at when it’s repaired.
Of course, there’s always the soup kitchen at your friendly neighborhood homeless shelter, which I’m sure you’re bound to avoid.
#35 I’m sure you feel nothing for anyone other than yourself. You lack of compassion and common decency is frightening. People like you are scared and paranoid and, just like a child, are acting out.
You, my friend, are bin Laden’s best friend and you, you are the reason our people are dying. Go have a Big Mac.
Perhaps it hasn’t occurred to him but the people of color that would serve Mr. Lott a Big Mac are no more likely to spit in it than the ones that serve him a fillet mignon.
Whiskypete – Lott doesn’t have a heart – that’s why he keeps rising. Hope his Democratic apponent hangs onto his complaint about not getting enough lunch money.
trent lott is the white knight, dontcha know? he doesn’t do reform unless it is forced on him by law. He was one of the ones that stood up and said “hell no” to integration and rights for all citizens. He is the perfect choice to replace Frist, he is a lot more honest! he sure has my vote, as he will help rebuild the shattered image of the publicans
I think we’re all missing the point here… the real question is, if Lott is forced to eat at Mickey D’s, will he be able to sit in a segregated “whites only” section? or will he use the drive-thru to avoid that issue altogether?

How about the whole lobby system be changed all together. You want to “lobby” congress? Ok you go to Congress’s website and post a public document about 1) What you want to see changed. 2) Why it is good for America. 3) Why it must be done at the federal level instead of at state level.
Pay the $1000 fee for processing the document into whatever form the Congress men and women want it delivered to them in and other handling fees like you pay when submiting a patent with the U.S. patent office. IF a congressman/woman takes interest then they can call hearings where the lobbist(s) can present their case on CSPAN in the house or senate for anyone who cares to know can see.
No personal meetings …no special influence. No pay to play. And law makers can spend their time doing actual work where we can all see them instead of spending their days in hottubs and on the golf coarse. If it is too wrong to ask for in public then you shouldnt be asking for it at all.
Any secretive non official contact between law makers and lobbyists would be illegal and a conflict of interest.
“Who cares as long as they are not homosexual? I-RIGHT-I”
Afraid someone is gonna stick a finger in your pudding? Hehe, whatever floats your boat cowboy. I figured you would make a racist comment here as well, but I guess you’re losing your racist edge with so much opportunity to promote hate speech, bigotry and intolerance that this site permits you to exercise.
“I was wondering if you’d sleep with me for a million dollars?”
“A million dollars!” She thinks for a moment and answers, “Yes, I would sleep with you for a million dollars.”
“How about five bucks?”
“Five bucks! What kind of woman do you think I am?”
“We’ve already determined that. Now we are just haggling over money.”
You all are missing trent’s point, when i take my daughter and her friends to mcdonalds it costs me more than $20 for my meal and their happy meals, trent is just worried he’ll be denied his happy meal
I think I-Right-I believes it is contageous. Anyone who believes this is just like people who believe you can catch racial traits. They’re so disjointed and disconnected from the world, that there’s probably little chance of actually reaching them. I really feel deeply sorry for how disturbed and hateful this poor fellow is.
And here I was thinking that the Republicans were AGAINST “Entitlement Programs”? Hmmmmm. I guess it all depends on who is on the receiving end? What F*cking Ever.
Anyway, do you ask this question in every restaurant before sitting down to eat?
Comment by Gregor Samsa
Yes, I think it is contagious. I think you have to be pretty young and fucked up in the head by a wimpy father and overbearing mother to get it though. At least that what the homosexuals themselves say when speaking of how they were “turned out” by older homo deviants on the prowl for fresh meat. I really do hate homosexuality. Everything about it just makes me sick.
And yes, I won’t eat in a restaurant that has a policy of not checking their employees for AIDS and Type C Hep and other nasty shit that crawls around on an through the bodies of lost souls. But you feel free to eat where it pleases you. No skin off my nose.
I figured you would make a racist comment here as well,

It was one of your losers that suggest the color of the waiter made a difference to the senator. That’s type A projection by the way.
but I guess you’re losing your racist edge with so much opportunity to promote hate speech, bigotry and intolerance that this site permits you to exercise.
I don’t promote anything. Have I asked you to agree with me? And by the way, just because you are a tolerant of anything, anything goes, nobody’s at fault, everything’s relative kind of man doesn’t mean that I’m racist, bigoted, intolerant or hateful because I find evil with what you hold to be good. But I know that’s what it means to you so there’s no point arguing.
Erm, not that anyone here has said anything to even hint at this, but now that the Republican free lunch is limited to $20 will Macdonalds stop being disgusting tasteless crap served on sweetened rolls?
Or will Lobyists start learning how to cook? I mean, just now the gourmet chef’s lobby becomes the most powerful one in congress.
I love your site. They really look very nice. The articles provided are long enough to provide great content but not so long as to be totally engrossing, if you know what I mean.
Some of these people would still roll over for 20 bucks

January 20th, 2006 at 1:36 amAnd here I was thinking that the Republicans were AGAINST “Entitlement Programs”? Hmmmmm. I guess it all depends on who is on the receiving end? What F*cking Ever.
January 20th, 2006 at 2:12 amWho cares as long as they are not homosexual?

Another spat with your man huh?
Don’t worry, he’ll be back…you’re much too good a “woman” for him to just dump you…
January 20th, 2006 at 9:00 amHomosexuality is not contagious, I-RIGHT-I…
Anyway, do you ask this question in every restaurant before sitting down to eat?
January 20th, 2006 at 6:13 pmI figured you would make a racist comment here as well,
Comment by RightPunch
January 20th, 2006 at 6:27 pmErm, not that anyone here has said anything to even hint at this, but now that the Republican free lunch is limited to $20 will Macdonalds stop being disgusting tasteless crap served on sweetened rolls?
Or will Lobyists start learning how to cook? I mean, just now the gourmet chef’s lobby becomes the most powerful one in congress.
January 23rd, 2006 at 4:24 am[...] Not disagreeing here. It’d just be nice if the Republicans in Congress meant it when they said they’d push for reform. [link] [...]

I love your site. They really look very nice. The articles provided are long enough to provide great content but not so long as to be totally engrossing, if you know what I mean.
