This morning on CNN, White House counselor Dan Bartlett said that every member of Congress who was briefed on Bush’s warrantless domestic surveillance program agreed the program was legal and necessary:
We went to Congress. We talked to the chairman and the ranking member of the intelligence committee. We talked to the leadership, both Republican and Democrat, House and Senate. These very discussions happened three to four years ago…The fact of the matter is, everybody came to the same conclusion, that what the president was doing was legal and was necessary.
Actually, that’s not true. The Vice Chairman of the Senate Intelligence was briefed in 2003. He responded with a personal letter to Vice President Richard Cheney saying that he could not support the program. Sen. Rockefeller said I am “unable to evaluate, much less endorse these activities.“
Bartlett Shmartlet. Did ya catch Gen. Hayden oc C-Span?
Gen. Hayden former head of the NSA at the start-up of the warrantless spying program when questioned directly by a rep from theworldcantwait as to whether the NSA has or is currently spying on political dissenters of the Bush administration simply shut his mouth and stared the man down. Be afraid! Don’t be late for the revolution it starts now.
Hayden goes on and denies that the 4th amendment has a requirement for probable cause -
4th amendment:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Is it possible that he doesn’t know the 4th amendment after being a “spymaster” for 25 years or is it more likely he hopes that Americans are so stupid they won’t get it?
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:18 pm
Why are we on total offense on this? I have argued something alone the lines of “Americans do not cower in fear of terrorists, although some prominent republicans believe we do. Americans do not sell out their basic rights to terrorists, although some prominent republicans say we will.”
Yes flashback it is a rhetorical statement so fire away.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:23 pmWhat these guys need to remember, as Congressman Adam Schiff pointed out last week, is that the statute of limitations will not have expired at the end of the Bush administration and that those people involved in illegal wiretapping can be prosecuted by the next administration.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:24 pmLie, lie, lie until they believe you. Notice the popular pre-lie phrase “The fact of the matter is” also commonly employed by troll-Gary on these boards.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:24 pmI saw this! I was sitting there on the couch yelling at my TV! The CNN host pissed me off so badly because he just sat there and ate it up without pointing out all the holes in this malarky! UGH!!! SO MUCH FOR JOURNALISM!!!
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:31 pmThe Goopers know the end is near. The blood is in the water and there will be a feeding frenzy soon. It will really begin in earnest after the Health Savings accounts that used car salesman tries to sell at the SOTUS go belly up like Social Security piratization did. As it is now there isn’t a single senior citizen who will vote Republican ever again, the fastest growing demographic, thanks to that Medicare Prescription drug debacle and rip-off. Good-bye and good riddance to conservatard idiotology.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:31 pm#4 - You are so correct! “Repeat a lie often enough, and it becomes to truth.”
The fact of the matter is - not going to be told by the current administration. They cannot abide the truth, for it does not support their allegations nor their mindset.
Too bad the so-called party of “personal responsibility” won’t take personal responsibility for their own actions.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:32 pmOnce again, they use the “If you say it enough, it must be true” logic.

January 23rd, 2006 at 2:32 pmThat’s not what Senator Rockefeller of the Senate Intelligence Committee said. For more, see:
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:35 pm“The NSA Scandal Documents.”
Let me get this straight - Bush uses his war-time powers to listen in on only conservations that involve members of Al Qaeda and during the Clinton years a program called Echelon, was used to eavesdrop on every conservation in the country and you people have no problem with that? In fact, the NYT actually defended Echelon as necessary and just. Hello? Talk about violating our privacy but then it was a dem in WH and that makes all the difference. This critism will come back to haunt your party in November and I for one, am looking forward to it.
http://americanthinker.com/articles.php?article_id=5150
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:38 pmBill, Bill, Bill - you can’t be serious when expecting the Dems to utilize the same outrage re: the Echelon program. Remember, to their superior way of thinking, they KNOW best.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:46 pmJudd - which other members of the House and Senate (who have been apprised of the NSA wiretaps) have been “unable to evaluate - much less endorse these activites.”???
#10 - As usual, you got it wrong.
Pres. Clinton used Echelon and got court approval to wire tap persons under investigation. Basically, Pres. Clinton followed the laws and GOT APPROVAL!
Pres. Bush used his war-time powers to listen in on conversations no matter to who they spoke. In fact, all he had to do was go to the FISA court no later than three days after he wiretapped people to get post-approval for his wiretapping, but he couldn’t even do that. No, he said he didn’t have to follow the laws that existed on the books, because his name was George ‘W’ Bush!
It’s not that he flagrantly broke the law, it’s that he blatantly lied about it afterward! (That argument should be familiar to the radical right-wing on a jihad against anyone not Republican.)
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:48 pmFirst of all, I doubt this. I doubt that Clinton did not go to FISA to get warrants, as the same type of outcry would have occured. Second, I don’t recall if this is part of the physical search on the American spy or not? If so, that was not illegal. First of all, in this case physical searches were not part of the FISA law at that time. It was only after this that Clinton had the FISA law ammended to include physical searches.
Show me the proof of the illegal actions by Clinton regarding this matter.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:49 pmBill wake up,
Republicans are turning the corner. The little guy that votes… in my home town a crap load of jobs are being lost/downgraded from factories because of it being an auto town. Factories where one my friends works for making glass products are shuting down ..lots of people losing jobs. Ford is hitting the shitter. They are starting to ask why have we sold our sole for…THIS. Hell that dip shit Bush cant even get Osama … heh they are talking… at the DMV… at the gas station … in the unemployment line… they are talking … just listen while you are out and about… I can not say they will vote democrat…because most will NEVER admit they were wrong. But they will vote for a different kind of republican or wont vote at all. NeoCons beware.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:50 pmBut despite Rockefeller’s reservations the spying continued…

Comment by rudgrl — January 23, 2006 @ 2:18 pm
It is the 2nd reason you mention. After all, this is the reason we have Bush Administration, Act II. That, and the fact that most people in this country just aren’t interested…I know this has been talked about here time and time again. Many folks don’t have the desire to question things, not to mention learn. They don’t have the ability to use reason. My wife, bless her heart, couldn’t tell you who the current governor of our state is. And it’s not just the adults. I have one niece who years ago, when she was in middle school, saw me watching a show about WWII on the Discovery Channel. She said history was boring. I have another niece (who at the time was 12 years old) who recently saw a picture of Dick Cheney on CNN.com, and made the comment that she didn’t think he was still Vice President. This was after 5 seconds of looking into space and trying to figure out who he was. And we have an 8-year-old neighbor who…now get this…likes President Bush because of the way he talks. Not because of, say, a typical Republican response from her age group that should be something like, oh, he does good things for people.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:52 pm#13 - Don’t hold your breath. He won’t be able to show proof, because none exists.
http://thinkprogress.org/2005/12/20/the-echelon-myth/
One can only assume that he has made up his mind, and the facts will only get in his way.
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:58 pmin Bush’s speech today he trotted out the same broken talking point that Cheney used. He said “These are not ‘Domestic’ phone calls” but one end of the call was in the U.S.!!! Also, he said that one end was a “known terrorist” but cheney said it was “suspected” terrorists! So which is it???
January 23rd, 2006 at 2:59 pmThe fact of the matter is, everybody came to the same conclusion, that what the president was doing was legal and was necessary.
How so does Bush or Cheney know EVEN how to use the program or “Know” a Terrorist name? The only terrorists cheney wanted tracked was People in the State Department, Heavily Loaded with AEI folks. Bush SR allowed 50 Israeli Terrorists into the country to track ARAB cells, but they DIDNT report what they knew as agreed upon.
January 23rd, 2006 at 3:00 pmAnyway AIPACs Franklin was sentence to 12 years for spying, and CHENEY didn’t FIND that in his WIRETAPPING did he?
And if so WHY didnt Cheney REPORT it?
#10 by the way….. Who says that it is only “members of Al Qaeda”? Bush? It’s already been proven that we can’t believe one thing Bush says, so where is your proof that it is not on American citizens?
Show me the proof that it is not a data minning operation. Show me that only Al Queda are the only ones being spied on.
The issue is that the WH has jacked into the switch board and are just collecting data and anylizing it. This is the issue. Not that they are targeting one person, they are sifting calls and looking for information. THIS IS THE ISSUE.
January 23rd, 2006 at 3:00 pmGee, another bush lie. Who would have thunk it?
January 23rd, 2006 at 3:02 pmAt least there’s one honest conservative concerning this issue:
Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University and a specialist in surveillance, speaking about Bush’s admission that he authorized warrantless wiretaps, was quoted on December 20, 2005 by Knight Ridder writer Ron Hutcheson, “The president’s dead wrong. It’s not a close question. Federal law is clear. When the president admits that he violated federal law, that raises serious constitutional questions of high crimes and misdemeanors.” Turley had testified against Clinton, according to an December 22, 2005 interview in Salon. “Many of my Republican friends joined in that hearing and insisted that this was a matter of defending the rule of law, and had nothing to do with political antagonism. I’m surprised that many of those same voices are silent. The crime in this case was a knowing and premeditated act. This operation violated not just the federal statute but the United States Constitution. For Republicans to suggest that this is not a legitimate question of federal crimes makes a mockery of their position during the Clinton period. For Republicans, this is the ultimate test of principle.”

There are many more “real conservatives” against this violation of the 4th amendment. Any true conservative is opposed to this crime. Faux conservatives like Bushco aren’t true conservatives. They are radical fringe.
January 23rd, 2006 at 3:09 pm#26 You call that proof? Where is the evidence to the claim? Where are the witnesses? We have witnesses, an NSA former employee and the Senate Intelligance Commity (Who has already expressed concerns about the issue).
This Echelon program was obviously known by many people in Clintons Administration, and I’m sure congress. So if it was against the law, why was there not an employee or Senators stating so?
Your grasping at straws, go back to sleep and snuggle with your blankie.
January 23rd, 2006 at 3:15 pmIf democrats were briefed and everyone agreed, why is Karl Rove saying democrats don’t think it’s important to know if Osama is calling someone in America? Either Bartlett or Rove is a complete lying a*hole. Which is it Scotty?
January 23rd, 2006 at 3:15 pmhow can he just bold face lie like that.? Rockefeller came public with his letter to Cheney months ago, that only the CHAIRS of SELECT senate committees were briefed on the programs, and some times they couldn’t discuss with anyone what they talked about in that meeting, including staffers or other senators. every sentence he uttered is a lie.

January 23rd, 2006 at 3:21 pmEchelon is how Bush wiretaps. It is how the NSA wiretaps. Clinton was not the first president to use Echelon or one of its predecessors, which were called Carnivore and Raptor.
The difference is that Clinton got warrants and Bush, even though he said it requires a warrant, did not get those warrants.

This has already been debunked here at Think Progress:
Prominent right-wing bloggers – including Michelle Malkin, the Corner, Wizbang and Free Republic — are pushing the argument that President Bush’s warrantless domestic spying program isn’t news because the Clinton administration did the same thing.(…) That’s flatly false. The Clinton administration program, code-named Echelon, complied with FISA.
January 23rd, 2006 at 3:36 pmThe Echelon Myth
Again, the wingnuts and ‘lil Georgie are in damage control, complaining about “politics”, misintepretation/misrepresentation of their motives, or “it’s okay because Clinton did it.”
January 23rd, 2006 at 3:36 pmTheir whining and position as eternal “victims” may finally be getting a little redundant with the public. The latest poll ratings suggest that watching Bush lurch through yet another explanation phase has reached the point of bordem — a sort of inverse of the “boy who cried wolf” syndrome.
How they expect to sell the same “victim” nonsense when we get to the Medicare or Abramoff scandals should be a chuckle, reminiscent of a comedian’s line, “the devil made me do it.”
Let’s not pretend that Echelon is some super duper top secret program. It is widely known about in the technology industry.

Value of Nation’s Mineral Production Still on the Rise in 2005
Editors: “Mineral Commodity Summaries 2006″ is available on the USGS Web site at http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/mcs/. Hardcopy will be available in March.
The value of U.S. non-fuel mine production rose last year to $51.6 billion – a 13 percent increase from 2004, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) announced today. Strong demand from China continued to drive up prices for metals and some industrial minerals, and led to increased production of some commodities, according to the annual USGS report “Mineral Commodity Summaries 2006,†which was released on the Internet today.
“The demand for metals and minerals from emerging industrial giants China and India continues to drive the world economy,” said USGS Acting Director Pat Leahy, whose agency is the sole federal government provider of scientific information and objective assessments on mineral resources, production, consumption, and environmental effects.
The estimated value of domestically processed non-fuel mineral materials totaled $478 billion in 2005. This is an increase of about 8 percent from the previous year. Mining of copper, iron ore, molybdenum, and aggregates (crushed stone and sand and gravel) increased, according to the report. Cement, pig iron, and steel manufacturing also increased. The 188% increase in the value of mined molybdenum significantly raised the ranking of several mining states. China’s increasing steel production provided strong demand for molybdenum. High molybdenum prices have encouraged higher output from molybdenum mines and the preferential mining of copper ores containing byproduct molybdenum.

Nixon wasnt the only president to do break in’s. Kennedy had girlfriends in the white house and didn’t get impeached. So What! Stop the one who’s doing it now and make sure no one else does it. “The USGS evaluates these materials because they are used to make all kinds of manufactured products and, therefore are an important part of the economy and our national security,” said Leahy. “Mining is the first step in building or manufacturing nearly everything, so these statistics are also an indicator of how the global minerals economy will affect our nation’s economic future.”
The report provides detailed information about events, trends, and issues in the domestic and international minerals industries during 2005. It summarizes minerals industry trends for individual mineral commodities and provides an outlook for domestic mineral industries in 2006. Separate chapters include production, trade, and resources statistics for about 90 mineral commodities.
The USGS collects, analyzes, and disseminates data on current production and consumption of about 100 mineral commodities, for the U.S. and about 180 other countries.
“Mineral Commodity Summaries 2006″ is available on the USGS Web site at http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/mcs/. Hardcopy will be available in March 2006 from the Government Printing Office, Superintendent of Documents. Call 202-512-1800 (1-866-512-1800 toll free) or visit its Web site at http://www.gpoaccess.gov/index.html for ordering information.
The USGS serves the nation by providing reliable scientific information to: describe and understand the Earth; minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters; manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; and enhance and protect our quality of life.

rudgrl,
Yeah I saw that and it struck me as very odd that the General refused to give a yes or no answer to the gentleman’s ?…
The General chose instead to ramble on about how the NSA was simply doing its job…just basically saying “trust us (Bushiva)…
well….it was clear the General got the message that this administartion has ZERO credibility…

A turkey might foretell that tomorrow will be a peaceful day with plenty of food and water. This will be true for every day but the last one.

I think not…

I just learned that the Pentagon spied on peace activists (ten of them) who stood in front of Halliburton and handing PB&J sandwiches to employees - in protest of the MRE’s provided by Halliburton as being overcharged. Now there are surveillance files on those demonstrators. But we are supposed to take the word of the White House that only terrorists are being surveilled.
January 23rd, 2006 at 6:07 pmWe are all under threat of surveillance if we object to anything concerning this White House.
More Bush LIES, but I am NOT surprised!
The few Democrats that were told about Bush’s spy program were NOT completely informed or told that wiretaps would be done without warrants!
So it is bogus for Dubya to insinuate their agreement!
January 23rd, 2006 at 6:08 pm71.
It’s not odd it’s an outrage and this is something we need to get out - Proof that the NSA has been spying on Americans.
Gen. Hayden in his silence confirms that the NSA is or has spied on American political dissenters. We know that the DoD and FBI have been spying on Americans but with this debacle of an interview, for the Bush admin, Hayden basically gets on t.v. and pleads the fifth admiting that the NSA is spying on American political dissenters. This is an OUTRAGE. Know we need to know who exactly has been spied on. I can’t wait till the flood of FOIO requests the ACLU will hit the bastards with.
As bad as Hayden’s refusal to deny that Americans were being spied on for nothing more then political dissent was that a career “spook” at a Washington D.C. press conference would deny that the 4th amendment doesn’t have a “probable cause” clause. He doesn’t just gloss over or simply dismiss it he outright says that the 4th amendment only has a “reasonable search, and seizure” clause. The Knight Ridder journalists jaw kept dropping further and further as Hayden kept denying that the 4th has a “probable cause” caveat.
Hinderaker over at Powerline has even posted an edited transcript of the staged event but removes any wordage that leads one to go - “what the fuck! did he actually just say that?” Typical neocons don’t like what happens just edit or twist it until it fits their needs.
January 23rd, 2006 at 6:12 pmDid I miss the response from Judd or the other googlers-at-large to discover how many other Dems oppose or can’t comprehend the NSA’s wiretapping of collaborators???
January 23rd, 2006 at 6:15 pm82 mighty - NOT
Collaborators? Like the Raging Grannies, Friends for Peace?
Instead of just spewing regurgitated smegma forced down your throat by Roves nubbie why don’t you actually formulate a cohesive INDEPENDANT thought? Oh sorry forgot who I was typing at.
The fact is that we DO NOT KNOW exactly who NSA, FBI, DoD was, is, or will spy on. And rather then give a blank check to BushCo I prefer to err on the side of caution and base my reactions on what we already know.
Get a full transcript of Gen. Hayden’s press debacle today and tell me that you have no concerns when the former head of the NSA refuses to answer a direct question as to whether the NSA was spying on Americans. Although in your paranoid delusion of towel headed bearded jihadists living in your basement you probably think all Americans are collaborators.
Read the transcript and tell me that you have no concerns that the former head of the NSA a high ranking career “spook” has no freaking idea that the 4th Amendment has a “probable cause” caveat. Although you probably have only read one amendment and I’m guessing it’s the 2nd.
Conversation would be vastly improved by the constant use of four simple words: I do not know. Andre Maurois
First they came for the Jews

because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

You just learned? Really? How credible is your source? They know the Pentagon was behind it? Inside source is it? I’ll have you know that Halliburton is a legitimate target for terrorism as are dozens of corporations in this country. The fact is I WANT TO KNOW WHO THOSE PROTESTORS ARE AND WHAT WAS IN THOSE SANDWICHES!!!
We already know the Left is working hand in glove with the avowed enemies of our country and many of them don’t even try to hide it. I say don’t just keep the Halliburton security video on these losers…put them in jail. If for nothing else, dispensing food without a license from the Health Department!!!!

Puny Hermaphrodite,
You’re so wrong you could wear two right shoes and never know the difference…
January 23rd, 2006 at 7:15 pmI’nsufferable-R’etarded-I’nbred, Puny Hermaphrodite, Bilked and all you right wing Bushas*lickingba*lsucking republiscum,
Regurgitating Bushiva’s and L’il Dick’s lies aren’t proof positive that America hasn’t been attacked on American soil because Al Qaeda can’t carry out those attacks, because “we’re fightin’ ‘e over there t’ keep from fightin’ ‘em over here†as a demonic madman keeps saying!
Reports show that some terrorist training camps have been reconstituted in the “lawless†regions of Pakistan also known as the tribal lands (where U.S. troops aren’t allowed), and that there are Al Qaeda being trained in them…
But more importantly, IRAQ is the BEST training ground Al Qaeda and bin Laden could have hoped for…
This is a little off point as far as your idiotic post is concerned yet goes to the heart of recent right wing inbred talking points concerning aiding and abetting the enemy through dissention of Bushiva’s illegal, ill-advised, and ill-fated foreign policy blunders…
YOUR support for Bushiva’s illegal invasion of Iraq, effectively setting up the “mother†of all terrorist training camps make YOU right wing Bushites the ultimate aiders and abettors of terrorism…
“They hate our way of life. They hate our freedom…†GWB
Your carte blanche support for the illegal warrantless wiretapping, erosion of civil liberties and usurpation of the Constitution by the criminal Bushite regime- means that bin Laden is winning- and make YOU inbred, Bushite worshipping bal*lickers the ultimate aiders and abettors of America’s enemies…
You right wing inbreds can insinuate that by Osama bin Laden parroting “rhetoric†Dems/Progressives use to dissent that we are “rhetorically†aiding and abetting the enemy all you want, but the tangible evidence/results point to YOUR support for Bushiva’s incompetent foreign policy and overall “leadership†as hands down MORE realistically aiding and abetting the enemy in again very tangible ways…
Look at the poppies from Afghanistan and the increased proliferation of the heroin trade since YOUR gods invaded and all but abandoned Afghanistan… The Taliban regime had all but eradicated it…
Osama and terrorists- according to propaganda promoted by your criminal gods- benefit from the drug trade, do they not?
YOU right wing, faux conservative, facist, loyalist Bushites are in TRUTH the undisputed aiders and abettors of America’s terrorist enemies…
So, you’re all not only Bushba*licking, Kool aid drinking, inbreds, but treasonous, anti-American, idiotic, Bushite “parrots†as well…
January 23rd, 2006 at 7:25 pmBush supporters do NOT know any history, because Hitler arrested even his own Nazi Party members, and put them into concentration camps, so for Repubs to think only Dems are being spied upon is naive! Every dictator mistrusts their so-called friends first, so Lieberman and McCain are wiretaped bigtime! Frist and Delay as well!

Jan. 23, 2006 - If Armageddon happens, those who survive will look back and see the warnings—so many of them—that were somehow lost from view in the numbing rush of 24/7 news. They will remember that Iran pushed ahead with a nuclear program it claimed was peaceful, although no one (not even some of those who defended its right to do so) really believed that was the case. People will recall the growing sense of urgency as threats were leveled against the mullahs, sometimes from unexpected quarters. Who had thought the French would be the first to say publicly they’d use limited nuclear strikes to retaliate
Please Respond to him and Tell Him Armageddon is NOT a Name of a WAR> Its a Name of a Place owhere a great Earthquake will take Place. Thank You
January 23rd, 2006 at 8:19 pm[…] So why all the confusion? All Bush had to do was get warrants and this whole issue wouldn’t be an issue. But when you go behind the peoples’ back and have other trust issues (the Abramoff scandal, the Pentagon database, the planted stories in Iraq, the planted stories in the media (Armstong Williams and “Jeff Gannon“), Iraq, Katrina, and the list goes on…) the game gets a little harder. I just wish the story was told straight. Instead you get media outlets reporting, unchallenged Karl Rove’s statements that Democrats don’t want to eavesrop on Al Qaeda and other false claims. […]
January 23rd, 2006 at 8:22 pmThis whole issue of “wiretapping†has a lot more to it than what you think! I was in a family for more than 26 years who joined Organized Crime. This wasn’t any ordinary Organized Crime System my ex-wife’s family joined. The communication links within this Organization go from deep in the belly of Corruption Laundromats (where I was) all the way to the top of our Political System!
Already, corruption seems to dominate the news but what you don’t realize is that there is a lot more yet to come! Also, corruption is only one level of crime that is involved in this! There are other levels of crime above corruption that is far more chilling than what now has surfaced. Plus, wiretapping is vitally necessary for managing existing criminal activities. Again, how do I know, I was in a family for more than 26 years who was deeply involved in this criminal system that involves wide spread Political Corruption, International Drug Distribution and Wide Spread Fraud. If you think Wiretapping is shocking, wait till you here what else has been going on!

Yeah Jay,
Wolf was disgusting going after Belafonte like a rabid rottweiler after a redneck inbred…
When he (Wolf) was a completely docile pus*y with Arlen Specter…
Wolf is a partisan right wing Bushite hack and zionist agent though, so no surprise…
But Harry was what he’s always been…a real man…
He stood his ground and didn’t backed down from anything…
But the same situation happened yesterday on Meet the Press, when Tim Russert went after Barrack Obama trying to make him condemn Belafonte’s remarks…
Needless to say Obama earned much respect for his smooth handling of what Russert was clearly trying to make a “gotcha” moment…
That Obama is really smoooooth man…

January 23rd, 2006 at 9:12 pmThe Generals stony silent stare has a different meaning to me , a medically retired former army officer. The question the general was asked had primarily two opposing answers, and one normally offered non-answer. Either he states NO which is what he implied to other questions. But if the answer of NO at some later date turns out to have been false, then the General could be in a little trouble under a DOD regulation called The Uniformed Code of Military Justice which forbids officers from not telling the truth, which is why to many questions the non-answer- bland- statement “I can neither conform or deny (whatever the question was)”. However if the general had answered with that statement, it would have caused the major news story which he was trying to avoid, many times the non-answer turns up being the DOD’s evasion from honesty. Many take this non-answer to be a verification with out facts. The only answer that would have given the press more red meat would have been YES but given he was a 4 star air force general well it would have been at the least very detrimental to his military career. His mission there was to put a “non-political’ face to the administration spin. Admitting that they were listening to even just a few of the members of the radical left, would have been mission failure for him. Ps his boss below Bush is Rumsfeld, and his promotion shows Rummy approves of his previous actions, otherwise Rumsfeld wouldn’t have requested congress to approve his advancement in rank.
January 24th, 2006 at 12:05 am#24 - Woody Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite”, actually, I think I’ll take a page from the Rove hand book and ask you to prove they didn’t wire tap at random.
If it was good enough for your party to pull that one, I’m sure you’ll be happy to provide proof they didn’t wire tap at random.
Come, now. It shouldn’t be hard to find a reputable source that proves I’m wrong! Or are you going to say that tactic isn’t fair? You either have to find proof to prove me wrong, or you have to say that tactic is completely wrong. Which one is it, Woody Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite”? January 24th, 2006 at 12:55 pmLike most of the fascist, right-wing, sleazeball traitorous whores that troll these progressive weblogs, I-R-I personifies a horrifyingly vivid picture of what a future America will be like if his Democracy-hating heros in the criminal Bush administration are allowed to get away with their felonious and immoral usurpation of the Constitution and law.
I-R-I — you are the same pathetic, sniveling, uncaring moronic coward that was characteristic of the typical German bourgeois citizen of 1930’s Germany who stood idly by and ambivalently watched while the vile monster Hitler and his brownshirts fear-mongered, lied, bullied and criminally forced their way into power and subsequently afflicted humanity with the bloody horror of WW2.
You contemptible, smug little twit — if you can manage to pull your bulbous, hillbilly head out of Bush’s arse-hole long enough to smell the prevailing political winds you just might figure out that reckoning time is not too far around the corner for Chimp-boy and the criminal-regime coddling GOP. Prezdent Chimpy McSphincter currently has a pitiful 36% approval rating (hell - Clinton had a 70% approval rating the day the shameless GOP hypocrites impeached him)… and I’ve no doubt that about 5% of that 36% approval total are I-R-I’s incest-spawned relatives.
Add to the fact that many moderate Repugs and Libertarians are ready to wash their hands of Bush and his traitorous neo-con wet dream-team as well. And as if that weren’t enough — just wait till the Plame and Abramoff affairs start producing a steady stream of Repug indictments — you’ll see alot more GOP rats opting to abandon the sinking Chimperor’s ship.
So — yuck it up while you still can I-R-I. Your blue-blooded, Coke-head, alcoholic, AWOL, lying, thieving, fascist monkey-in-a mansuit leader is heading for a big fall. And best of all — he’s going to drag the wing-nut GOP down with him.

Additionally, I feel it’s important to note that the absence of a response to the vulgar drivel that fascinates the Filthy Left should not presume a victory yet I know that in the lower quarters it does so, I guess you win. I hope you keep on wining because your prize is a permanent position on the outer fringes of a marginalized sub-culture of what used to be known as the Democratic Party. It’s the price one pays for being the party of self rather than the party of society.

How many guys, aside from me, of course, have a more masculine personna than you anyway? No, I’m not Ryan. I’m too lazy to do all that research and refuting. Why would I waste all that time and effort on you?

Cops do! That where all the Meth labs are! Ever seen red-state dental work? It makes the Brits look like toothpaste ad models!
Meth Mouth! Where Red state breath comes from.

Not likely. That kind of thing doesn’t happen in neighborhoods like mine unless Starbuck’s opens late or closes early.

I guess you live in “lower” Sugarland with the trailer trash. I don’t think you have a Star Bucks near by–maybe a Shipleys. Of course you might slither up to a Dunken doughnuts after your weekly bath and they would let you in.
Maybe once in a while we will let you drive by in your “Pick’em truck” and gaze at our houses in River Oaks.. Dream on trash -Me and Mrs/ or is it Miss Farb won’t let you in–but, you can clean the pool’s. My old buddy Kenny boy and I might let you mow the lawn. Get it sucker–I really know these people and you just cream-(opps–dream) about it.
You don’t believe do you-=tailer trash.
January 24th, 2006 at 11:05 pmHey-Lightyaphrodtight-Your stikh is getting old. Why don’t you cut & paste posts where people have challenged your sexually orientation? Like are you perverted or something? Got a problem with people that are different than you? What is your problem? How about starting a debate about something of general importance and show your superior intellict (probably hard to do) but, give it a shot. Pick a subject. You A** wipes always disappear when confronted-don’t you. Cowards-thumb suckers-blankie coddling-shallow-nothings. But, I am willing to give you a shot. You won’t, IRI/Wally never has as most of you.

January 24th, 2006 at 11:59 pmSo much for conviction. The anal retentives are off for a shot of Kool-aide. Turn off the lights-the party is over. Hey, that sounds Texan to me.

Nope, must of missed that one. I did get a kick out of your “fear the Black Man” rant though. That one was pretty good. I especially liked the “Black’s secret longing for white women” (with low self esteem) part. But I gots to tell ‘ya it’s no secret. We’ve known for a long time that if it weren’t for black guys fat ugly liberal white women couldn’t get a date. ;-)
January 25th, 2006 at 9:09 amHey Rudgrl
Your freaky “friends” dont think you are bright enough to handle an argument on your own. They called for help on the Buchanan thread.
Kate obviously couldn’t handle it either.
Big Papa, What is so big? Its obviously not your IQ and your mom says its not your weanie. Must be your butt hole from your prison days.
That kind of talk is all this site is good for.

I disagree but Big Pops is with you on that as he does it all the time. I guess it’s a cultural thing. You just can’t take the rainforest out of the bunny.
