VIDEO: Matthews Slobbers All Over Tom DeLay»

Chris Matthews has a hard-hitting interview coming up with Tom Delay. During last night’s Hardball, there was a preview. Watch it:

MATTHEWS: OK, I’ve got to ask you a cosmic question.

DELAY: OK

MATTHEWS: Tom DeLay, you are not in this buisness for the money. You live modestly You commute back and forth from Washington to Houston, Texas. Why? What drives you every day?

How Tom DeLay actually lives:

As Tom DeLay became a king of campaign fund-raising, he lived like one, too. He visited cliff-top Caribbean resorts, golf courses designed by PGA champions and four-star restaurants, all courtesy of donors who bankrolled his political money empire.

Over the past six years, the former House majority leader and his associates have visited places of luxury most Americans have never seen, often getting there aboard corporate jets arranged by lobbyists and other special interests.

Public documents reviewed by the Associated Press tell the story: At least 48 visits to golf clubs and resorts; 100 flights aboard company planes; 200 stays at hotels, many world-class; and 500 meals at restaurants, some averaging nearly $200 for a dinner for two.

Americablog has more.

DeLay’s answer:

DELAY: What I believe in. The constitution of the United States. Ronald Reagan got me involved in this. I fight every day for what I believe in. Strong national security. Protecting the American family. Values. I just, I want to see this country led in a different direction than I found it when I got into politics 20 some years ago.

  1. Kenny H. Says:

Hey, Matthews’ hair is blowing all around, while Delay’s looks like it’s painted on. What’s the deal with that?

  2. Kenny H. Says:

Delay: “I want to protect the American family.” Obviously, complete and utter nonsense. That talking point is about number 23,793 on his actual “to-do” list.

  3. ohdave Says:

Wow, that question is like SOOOOOO cosmic it like totally blows my mind, dude.

  4. JRock Says:

I have officially dropped Matthews from my live forever. That basically leaves me with KO and Dailyshow. Man it either has gotten worst or I have just gotten smarter.

  5. Democrat Soldier Says:

#1 - His hair is like his brain: frozen in the past.

  6. Rosencrantz Says:

What always angers me about people who point out politicians making less money than they would in the private sector…or something like this with how Delay lives; many people get into politics for the POWER. They are able to make decisions about power and control that they normally wouldn’t get to make in the private sector.

So speaking about how they live as being “modest” or how much money they do or don’t make is completely irrelevant. Delay is (was) in a strong position of power where he had influence over thigns that affected and could harm all Americans. He doesn’t care about Democracy, as he is willing to do anything to ensure only conservatives gain power. That is harmful to America and Democracy. He encouraged and assisted in bribery and illegal donations. That is harmful to Democracy and America. He was a member of the “K-Street” project which ensured a tighter connectino between Republicans and the big businesses to gain further control and influence over BOTH. Again…harmful for democracty and America.

But I guess if you are a member of the butt-kissing and blind MSM then you only care about appearances. The appearance of integrity and modesty. It makes sense since the MSM can’t seem to report anything they actually say or do to the contrary…all that is left is appearance.

  7. wisedup Says:

hey chris,WATCH your ratings go IN THE DUMPER,then you can bring delie goodies in JAIL.

  8. Preznit_Douchebag Says:

    Tweety is a complete WANK.

The best thing we ever did was get rid of cable TV. Why pay $40/month to watch shit like this, not to mention hours and hours of commercials. Of course, that’s what cable “news” has turned into–hours and hours of commercials, promoting brand Amerika.

  9. Marie Says:

What!? Delay isn’t in this for the money? Matthews has crossed over — he is gone. I will join JRock and stick with K Olbermann and the DailyShow.
I will watch this interview today however, because I have to see this sucking-up with my own eyes.
Isn’t Matthews involved in an Abramoff fundraiser? He should have to explain that. Doesn’t Matthews also have a role in the Valerie Plame matter - he said Rove told him “Valerie Plame is fair game.”
For a guy from liberal parents, and who once worked in the Peace Corps, Matthews is a broadcasting neo-con.

  10. pgw Says:

one thing’s for sure: he doesn’t live as ‘modestly’ as those woman working for sub–minimum wage in Saipan

  11. WaltTheMan Says:

    Unbelievable!

  12. Keith Patrick Says:

Sugar Land is not “modest” relative to the rest of Houston. Here’s a blurb on it:
“As Sugar Land is widely considered one of the wealthiest suburbs in the state, many celebrities live in and around Sugar Land, including Houston Texans’ quarterback David Carr, Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski, former Houston Astros great Terry Puhl and Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland. Still, more celebrities simply keep houses in the upscale, but quaintly Sweetwater subdivision in the master-planned community of First Colony, such as Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and other local luminaries. “

  13. Jeff Says:

I wonder if there’s a video of Delay feeding Matthews his cracker. Squak

  14. Anti Warhol Says:

How does MSNBC justify this as anything else but a PR stunt?

  15. Democrat Soldier Says:

#14 - MSNBC: Must Say Nothing But Crap.

Yup! Sounds like they’re becoming another mouth-piece for the radical-right neo-cons!

  16. greg wirth Says:

Matthews conversion is complete. The last time I watched Hardball was during the CIA leak investigation, he was pointed and fairly accurate. Matthews slobbers over any politician or respected pundit because that is his job. When it comes down to it, he will not represent regular working class people, but the elites who dicate the terms of DC politics.

  17. ohdave Says:

    Propaganda?????

Holy crap, Wallace, did you read the post?????? Pot, meet kettle. You’re black!

  18. Jay Randal Says:

Chris Matthews is a stupid Bush lover and GOP fool! Tom Delay is corrupt and a criminal! Put the 2 of them together and you have a sandwich of sleaze! It is time for Chris to be fired from his position and Delay to go to prison!

  19. Bushllit Says:

I just finished vonnegut’s “a man w/o a country” and he has a section about ‘guessers in power’- how they will refuse to listen to reason, just so they can guess ‘from the gut’ and watch the chips fall - this seems to be follow along the power seeking, control freak personality known as Tom DeLay, along with many others making “decisions”

  20. Democrat Soldier Says:

#15 - Sorry to burst your bubble, but it’s the entrenched power in DC (aka Pres. Bush, radical-right neo-cons, big-business, and big government) that are peddling the propaganda.

When you get the chance to remove your rose colored glasses, I’m sure your ability to see the truth will return. Until then, enjoy your fantasy world!

  21. TJM Says:

Chris Matthews:Media Matters disinformer of the year and as Bob Somerby has noted he is the fakest man alive. Hard to believe anybody cares what this guy has to say. Since I have low blood pressure,I tune in to Hardball solely to raise my heart rate. It’s cheap cardio although the downside is a flat line Alpha wave.

  22. Flamethrower Says:

    softball

  23. Democrat Soldier Says:

#21 - Yeah, that’s right. Since you cannot refute the argument, or offer informative dialogue, engage in personal attacks.

Typical radical-right neo-con troll behavior. Too bad that your ideological stance is inimical to the Constitution and only picks and chooses which amendments will be applied to whom. For Democrats, the entire Constitution is applicable to everyone, not just the anointed few who can flagrantly violate portions of it at whim, like Pres. Bush.

  24. Southwest Bob Says:

These clowns are in a panic. The fraud has been exposed (in congress as well as the media whores) so they are upping the hype (lies) in an effort to retain the 30% who continue to support gwb and the greedy, self-serving DeLays of the repub party.

  25. the fly-man Says:

  30. Citizen80203 Says:

Another man whore for the GOP.

  31. Novin Says:

We could rid ourselves of the dependence on oil if we could harness the energy of Tip O’neill spinning in his grave.

And the reason that Delay’s hair is so nicely in place is because CM applied some “hair gel” just like Ben Stiller used in There’s something about Mary.

It is nice that he took some time out of his “Is Hillary good for America?” rants to go spend some quality time with the most corrupt politican ever.

  33. roxiee pruitt Says:

I am sorry I can not stop looking at the Chris Matthews show much like looking at a train wreck. He has drunk the koolaid, and i want to see the demise of Hardball. I will not feel justice has been served until he is no longer on tv. We have to look and expose his love affair with the Repugs . He remarked a few weeks ago that he attended a party where Bush came up to him and commented on his attire. I think that was when he took the final sip of the koolaid. The only way to protest is to msnbc, and the people who put the money up for the show.

  34. pgw Says:

did i see “great” and “Terry Puhl” in the same sentence. who was the source on that? jose cruz?

  35. Jeffrey Stewart Says:

Chris Matthews is really on a roll these days. He says that breaking the law maybe goes with the job of being president. He crucifies Sen. Clinton for a demonstrable truth. And he slanders Michael Moore with guilt by association with Osama bin Laden, then complains he was “misunderstood.” And, now this!

He has lost any credibility he might have had and everyone should just ignore him. He might then turn to “important” issues like Natalee Holloway like his MSNBC colleague “Throaty McHorse Voice.” I mean it is just one unfortunate woman, but think of the ratings!

  36. rbphilly Says:

At least we know he wasn’t lying about this.

  39. The Crapture Says:

Four words: “Chris Matthews, Slobbering Fellatrix”

  42. RemoveBush Says:

    Off topic, sorry….

Has anyone heard about this? If this is true, then this is really scarry.

BANK OF AMERICA & COMPASS BANK MANAGERS WERE TOLD HOMELAND SECURITY WILL CONFISCATE SAFE DEPOSIT BOXES

    by notepad

While all the other points I mentioned in a previous post are fairly well documented and discussed elsewhere on the Internet, the bank information I reported is not. This information is from my own experience and research. I discovered the disturbing news quite by accident - and by virtue of its importance, I decided to post my findings here and on a few other forums.

    What did I hear?

A family member from Irvine, CA (who’s a branch manager at Bank of America) told us two weeks ago that her bank held a “workshop” where the last two days were dedicated to discussing their bank’s new security measures. During these last two days, the workshop included members from the Homeland Security Office who instructed them on how to field calls from customers and what they are to tell them in the event of a national disaster. She said they were told how only agents from Homeland Security (during such an event) would be in charge of opening safe deposit boxes and determining what items would be given to bank customers.

At this point they were told that no weapons, cash, gold, or silver will be allowed to leave the bank - only various paperwork will be given to its owners. After discussing the matter with them at length, she and the other employees were then told not to discuss the subject with anyone.

The family member has since given her notice to quit the bank.

I found the news alarming and decided to find out more myself. On a trip to my bank here in Houston, I remarked to a young bank employee (who’s new there), “well I guess you’ve been told all that stuff by the manager and the Homeland Security about what to tell your customers” - and to my amazement, the young woman came right out and said yes she’d been through all that, then whispered to me across the counter, “but we’re not supposed to talk about - I could lose my job.”

Why haven’t you heard more about this?

First of all, since maybe only banks’ upper management is privy to the new “rules”, the information doesn’t trickle down so easily.

Also keep in mind that employees have been told NOT to say anything about this, that it’s a matter of National Security (with an allusion toward arrest if they do). They face possibly losing their job too. Another reason is that bank employees may not think it’s important, or they believe they’re a unique part of the effort towards curtailing “terrorism” and helping America’s internal defenses.

It is also important to realize that not everyone’s a writer, or Internet savvy - even if the employees moved beyond their banks’ warnings & constraints, most people don’t know how to get their experience published on the Web in the public domain - it’s a mystery they are not familiar with so you never hear their story.

How to get the information yourself:

Visit your bank, ask a few well-worded questions, being careful not to arouse suspicion - if that doesn’t work, talk to friends and other family members - maybe they’ve heard something - or as a last resort, just point blank call the bank manager in private and demand to know what’s all this business with the Homeland Security deciding what I can have from my safe deposit box - tell me now or I’ll close my account today.

I’ll bet if you put forth the effort you’ll get the answers you want.

What should you do with this information?

I’m not trying to “scare” anyone - just providing some news I think is relevant to Americans. Each must find his way through this dark forest - you will do with this information what best suits you and your loved ones - me personally, I see this as another indicator of how the criminals in charge over our lives intend to fleece U.S. citizens completely then dispose of them as only refuse.

    Be prepared.

  43. Zookeeper Says:

I’ll be sending out two care packages today: One to Chris Matthews, containing heating pads and ibuprofen for his sore knees; and one to Tom DeLay containing podwer for his dry, chapped balls.

  44. G.Gordon Giddy Says:

Hey, Matthews’ hair is blowing all around, while Delay’s looks like it’s painted on. What’s the deal with that?

    Comment by Kenny H.

Matthews still has his hair. DeLay wears a rug.

  45. LTParis Says:

I have the Matthews show on Sundays recording on my TiVo. I have been disturbed at this recent pattern that he has shown. Is it because NBC/MSNBC is starting to move a bit more right to get more FOX viewers, or is he becoming more conservative?

I may not watch another CM show. Sad I enjoyed his commentary, but now he is showing a partisan side.

  46. G.Gordon Giddy Says:

Here’s a good picture of DeLay without his hairpiece. The one on the left is with makeup, the one on the right is without the make-up.

  47. G.Gordon Giddy Says:

    LTParis,

Your question assumes facts not in evidence, facts that have never existed. Since when has anyone in the MSM corporate media NOT been a tool of the right? You actually think they are moving farther to the right than they already were? You haven’t been paying attention or you buy the “liberal media” myth? What planet are you on?

  48. G.Gordon Giddy Says:

Do you think CBS and Dan Rather have a distinct liberal bias?

    ROFLMAO!

  49. G.Gordon Giddy Says:

I may not watch another CM show. Sad I enjoyed his commentary, but now he is showing a partisan side.

    Comment by LTParis

I think it’s been fairly obvious what side he was on since 2000… Jesus! Are you serious?

  50. draftedin68 Says:

With a 7-figure income like Tweety’s, most people that live like DeLay would appear to be living “modestly.”

Maybe we should stop using “Tweety” as a knickname for Matthews and start using “Foghorn Leghorn” - it’s a better fit.

  51. G.Gordon Giddy Says:

Let this be a lesson to all of you. This is how bad things have become.

I may not watch another CM show. Sad I enjoyed his commentary, but now he is showing a partisan side.

    Comment by LTParis

Incredible. Just incredible how they can fool this poor person into believing that there has been no right wing bias in the media for the last 30 years. Since before this poor fool was born. They actually have him convinced there is a “liberal bias” in the media and when he hears Matthews, who has always had an obvious right wing bias, he’s fooled into thinking it’s unbiased commentary. Sad is right.

  52. JIMBO Says:

Continue to pressure Tweety to stop sucking up to the corporate GOP genitalia. I will send my fourth e-mail to him today.

Continue to pressure him till he bursts. He should also talk to Harry Reid to balance the shit. And if he gets hostile with Harry, well, Harry should give em’ hell.

Let’s not give up on making the bastard crack.

  53. G.Gordon Giddy Says:

    LTParis ,

You had better get up to speed.

    SourceWatch

    Media Matters for America

    FAIR

    Media Transparency

If you think Matthews was ever unbiased commentary, you have been brainwashed and you need deprogramming.

One little orchestrated “tiff” with Zell Miller does not unbiased commentary make.

  54. scott Says:

Tom DeLay, you are not in this buisness for the money. You live modestly
This is the second time I’ve heard Matthews refer to how modestly Tom Delay lives. If I recall correctly, Cunningham got caught in part because he was obviously living well beyond his visible means of support - essentially flaunting the wealth the bribes and kickbacks brought to him.
Except for the excessive travel, I’m assuming that Delay was smart enough to plan until he retired to K-Street to begin openly spending his illicit nest egg.

  55. G.Gordon Giddy Says:

Glen Greenwald has a good piece on the rules for Political discourse: Read It.

    Tweety:

    Memories of Chris Matthews

    May 1, 2003:

Senator McConnell, let me ask about today.

What’s the importance of the president’s amazing display of leadership tonight?

What do you make of the actual visual that’s people will see on TV and probably, as you know, as well as I, will remember a lot longer than words spoken tonight?

And that’s the president looking very much like a jet, you know, a high-flying jet star. A guy who is a jet pilot. Has been in the past when he was younger, obviously.

What does that image mean to the American people, a guy who can actually get into a super sonic plane, and actually fly in an unpressurized cabin, like an actual jet pilot?

Do you think this role, and I want to talk politically for just a secretary, the president deserves everything he’s doing tonight in term of his leadership. He won the war. He was an effective commander. Everybody recognizes that, I believe, except a few critics. Do you think he is defining the office of the presidency, at least for this time, as basicly that of commander-in-chief. That is role, that if you’re going to run against him, you’d better be ready to take away from him.

Let me ask you, Bob Dornan, you were a congressman all those years. Here’s a president who’s really non-verbal. He’s like Eisenhower. He looks great in a military uniform. He looks great in that cowboy costume he wears when he goes west. I remember him standing at that fence with Colin Powell. Was the best picture in the 2000 campaign.

And later, Pat Caddell and Ann Coulter. What a duo.

And we’re going to talk about the president’s incredible performance, flying into the USS Abraham Lincoln today. More on that when we come back with HARDBALL’s buzz.

    Look at this guy!

MATTHEWS: OK, let me run through the names, Ann. Lieberman — can you see him in this picture? Ann?

    COULTER: What about him?

MATTHEWS: Can you see him getting into an F-18…

    COULTER: Oh, no!

MATTHEWS: … an flying onto an aircraft carrier?

    (CROSSTALK)

MATTHEWS: Joe Lieberman, can you see him there?

    COULTER: No possibility. I — I have…

MATTHEWS: Can you see John Edwards doing it?

    COULTER: No possibility.

MATTHEWS: Can you see Dick Gephardt doing it?

    CADDELL: Yes. No. Yes.

    COULTER: No.

MATTHEWS: Can you see John Kerry do it?

COULTER: I can think of very few Republicans I could even see doing it. But no, not even Kerry.

MATTHEWS: Can you — Pat Caddell, are there any Democrats that could go for this part, if this were a Hollywood casting director? Who could play this part as a Democrat, besides the president? Pat?

A little later Matthews went on Countdown:

We’re proud of our president. Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who’s physical, who’s not a complicated guy like Clinton or even like Dukakis or Mondale, all those guys, McGovern. They want a guy who’s president. Women like a guy who’s president. Check it out. The women like this war. I think we like having a hero as our president. It’s simple.

    You enjoyed that “commentary”?

    Here’s more.

    As Atrios says:

    Tweety

Chris Matthews certainly in’t the only Republican hack on TV, but everyone pretends he isn’t one.

    Get up to speed, dude.

  56. WatchfulBabbler Says:

“Live modestly?” DeLay’s home is worth $410,010 according the country appraiser’s office, versus an average statewide home value of $173,900. And then there’s the $2.1 million in direct receipts he’s garnered in the current election cycle, plus all his lobbyist perks.

    Modest indeed.

  57. Massachusetts Liberal Says:

Man, Delay is so convincing! I just changed my mind about him—he’s an idealist!

  58. G.Gordon Giddy Says:

Maybe we should stop using “Tweety” as a knickname for Matthews and start using “Foghorn Leghorn” - it’s a better fit.

    Comment by draftedin68

I like your idea draftedin68, but don’t you think tweety’s “big brother” Zell Miller is a better fit for Foghorn Leghorn.

  59. JIMBO Says:

    Hey gang,

I just e-mailed Chris Matthews for the 4th time. And I recommended that he talk to Harry Reid. I suggest that you
guys and gals do the same and e-mail Tweety with the same message- Talk to Harry Reid. It’s really time to pressure
    the fat fuck.

  60. betty Says:

  63. LTParis Says:

G.Gordon Giddy, No I never bought into the “libera media” myth, hell over on ArsTechnica where I normally roam, I am a firm believer that most media is conservative. That in mind, I did think that CM was a bit more center than he has seemed to be. I absorb a lot of polical opinions, from KoS, to here, to Raw Story, hell even a bit of Drudge so I can get a broad spectrum of opinions. For the record I consider myself an Independent with no loyalties to any party or platform. Most people would consider me liberal for that.

Did I ever believe that CM was left, hell no. Did I believe he was center? Well more so than not. Did I take everything he said at face value? Of course not. I don’t trust a single person in media, right, left, or center. I use my own mind to make up opinions based on the evidence that is presented to me, and yes that makes me a total hater of this Admin, it’s policies, and it’s clear distain for the American people.

  64. Massachusetts Liberal Says:

#50 drafted— good point. The overpaid lords of the media lost touch with the average Amercan’s economic situation long ago.

I’m about to send email #2 to Hardball. I’m just going to quote one of those statements in italics in #55 and say, “Can you imagine Walter Cronkite saying this?”

  65. Mike Says:

“I just, I want to see this country led in a different direction than I found it when I got into politics 20 some years ago.”

Well one thing is for certain….Delay has been successful in doing that. Unfortunately that direction is straight down the toilet, no contitutional rule of law, scandal, etc.,etc., etc.

  66. big papa Says:

Chris Matthews is officially on th Bushite payroll (a’la Armstrong Williams)…

Tom DeLay is about as modest as the roaches he used to exterminate…

Let him live (politically) and infestation is inevitable…

Kill it (politically) before it spreads…

  67. Jay Randal Says:

Chris Matthews is in bed with George Bush, but so is Wolf Blitzer! Put heat on CNN to fire the Wolf ASAP! He tried to smear Harry Belafonte last night on his program! He tried to make Harry into a bigot who hates Jews, but Belafonte out-smarted the Wolf! Blitzer looked like a rascist pig!

  68. Marie Says:

Matthews is an overpaid shill. He declares Delay lives modestly, compared to what? Compared to whom? Compared to Matthews himself - maybe that might be closer to the truth. I’ve written several times in the past to MSNBC and to CM, I think I will join some of you here and write again.
Tweety is a neocon. A rich bastard, who lost his compass and is hopelessly lost. Too bad he has an audience. He is a flagrant abuser of the power of the microphone in the news media.

  69. randy Says:

I will be back to watch this video and laugh at Chris Matthews after Tom Delay gets thrown in prison.

  70. Marie Says:

    #42, RemoveBush,
That is one frightening tale. How few people know of this?
What will be their national disaster? An attack? A financial disaster? How much do we owe China? An economic collapse, devaluing all money and stock, with only gold and silver having any value?
    This is too damn scary.

  71. Easter Lemming Liberal News Says:

Tom Delay only lives modestly compared to Chris Matthew’s seven figure annual income and multi-million dollar estates. In the last several years DeLay’s wife and daughter have received over a half million dollars in income from light jobs from conservative supporters of DeLay. Sugarland is also called Sugar Daddy Land, a wealthy subdivision of Houston.

  72. Dartanyon Says:

    Tweety is a nauseating disinformatist.

Media Matters for America was 100% correct in awarding him this title for 2005 and by all accounts, Tweety will earn it again for this year too.
    .

  73. Jodi Says:

God,if you watch Hardball you really need to keep a bucket handy, this is really nauseating!

  74. CalGal Says:

I’m with you JRock. I sent an email to the Hardball show yesterday stating I am no longer watching Chris Matthews anymore. I think I may even send a real letter. I was Tivo-ing, and then fast forwarding through obnoxious guests. Now, it’s Chris that’s obnoxious too, so it is no longer an appealing source of news for me. Like JRock, I watch Keith Olbermann (and recommend him to family and friends), and Jon Stewart. I don’t understand Chris. He obviously knows these people are engaged in corruption, but he seems to be willing to give them free passes. So, I’m passing on Chris Matthews now!

  75. mrd_in_nyc Says:

I want to see this country led in a different direction than I found it when I got into politics 20 some years ago.

Let’s see. 20 years ago. 1986. Second term of Ronald Reagan. I actually have to agree with him there. Those were pretty crappy years.

  76. Eileen Robinson Says:

Ah gee, don’t you know that tweety bird is just going to
bat for his little brother, the Lt. Gov of Pa. He’s just
trying to warm up the GOP for this brother!

  77. purvis ames Says:

Tweety and the Bugman; a marriage made in heaven.

  78. Matthew Says:

Here is my email to Hardball.

Chris… please fire the person responsible for doing research for your program.

They have obviously grossly misled you in your upcoming story on the modesty of Tom Delay. Here is your own organization, MSNBC reporting the real truth.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10554513/

I know its tough for someone as accomplished as yourself to keep track of the research that goes into your reporting, and I do not hold you personally responsible for such a gross misrepresentation of the facts. I am afraid this story is going to make you appear to be an incompetent sniveling toady of an apologist for persons who are clearly not serving the public interest. NerfBall, the hilarious phrase coined by the astute John Stewart, will now have the appearance of truth.

Always looking out for the interests of those who have made the MSM what it was, is and always has been…

    Sincerely,

  79. Don Says:

DeLay is in it for both the money and the power.

He stands between your congressman and the public’s money.

    That gives him power.

  80. Billy Says:

It’s not softball questions Chris throws to DeLouse, it NO balls questions. Thanks for the MSN address, I will write a nastygram to “No balls” so he knows a majority of us think he’s nuts. I wonder how much money Bush pays “NO balls”.

As for Tom’s hair, it’s painted on plastic, that’s why it is not blowing around. What a bad hair dye job! You’d think with all his money he could do better.

  81. draftedin68 Says:

With apologies to Warner Brothers, Zell Miller’s best fit would be the Tasmanian Devil.

Here are some other possible fits:

    Scott McClellan - Sylvester
    Jack Abramoff - Pepe LePew
    Tom DeLay - Marvin Martian
Alberto Gonzales - Wyle E. Coyote
    Karl Rove - Porky Pig
    George Bush - Elmer Fudd

    Whataya think?

  85. John Miller Says:

Darn! Looks like DeLay didn’t make it on today’s show. Maybe Matthews got the vibe that his “softball” interview was perceived as a joke even before it aired!

  86. JIMBO Says:

    #85

    John,

The 7:00 pm edition has yet to be on. I just hope though, that you are right and that softball interview is not aired.

  87. r miller Says:

I have a cosmic question for Matthews. Are you a newsman or a shill for the Republicans and this neo-fascist Administration? Never mind, the answer is obvious.

  88. sadie Says:

the face of a liar needs music in the background for distraction.

  89. Red Says:

mrd_in_nyc - That’s what I was thinking. Maybe DeLay thinks Carter was in office 20 years ago. What an idiot.

  90. Chris Says:

Matthews is horrible. I’m done with him! What else can I can watch. The media is so one sided. Think about it- Scarborough. Matthews, Tucker Carlson,Wolf Blitzer, Lou Dobbs, Hannity and colmes. Goebbels would be jealous of that lineup.

  91. Jay Randal Says:

Wolf Blitzer is the worst Bush Lover > if Ted Turner was still running CNN, then Wolf would be fired and begging for quarters on street corners! Everyone call CNN and demand that Wolf be fired > he can go work for FOX > lol.

  92. jbkiii Says:

Hey, we got Al! Franken, and Obe Oberman! And Maher, and Stewart, Cobert, where you been? It’s only getting better
by the hour, now gimme five!!

  93. Marie Says:

There was no Delay interview on Nerfball tonight — perhaps Tweety got a message.
Or did we misunderstand, and is the interview to be played in its entirety at a later date?

  94. Marco Says:

I think its funny Chris Matthews spent 5 years trying to become an insider with BushCo. Now it looks like he just might make it in time for the Dems to take over the Senate, Congress and Impeach the Prez. Can’t wait to see Chris trying to find friends in the center and left next year.

  95. Mark Says:

I didn’t watch the video but am curious, did Mathews spit or swallow and how did Tom React either way?

  96. lpt Says:

let’s face it-msnbc is now the armpit of even the ‘infotainment’ business and the only place that would take a desperate handpuppet like matthews.

  97. Nan Says:

I just don’t get it. Why do you guys watch this whore for hire? Can’t you see he is doing GE’s bid by shilling for the GOP? Why watch his GOP propaganda show? Why give him the ratins?

  98. cartach Says:

Never mind Softball — NOBALLS !

  99. janet Says:

Sissy Matthews of Softpitch? What else would you expect?

  100. bryan@soapblox.com Says:

Oh that is just so pathetic it’s a caricature of itself. A tear comes to my eye for this great nation of ours that is America since poor Tom Delay has been persecuted by some conspiracy of the liberal left-wing media!

    My ass…

That has to be the biggest crock of bull I’ve seen all year. It does absolutely nothing to help Tom Delay (the man has already been indicted for good sakes! It takes more than a propaganda piece on a low-rated show to save that bastard!) However it does reveal Mr. Mathews’ leanings.

What a disappointment Chris Mathews turned out to be (especially with that insignificant Michael Moore reference). He isn’t worthy of removing the dirt from John McLaughlin’s fingernails! Hell, I have more respect for Pat Buchanan, since he at least doesn’t flip-flop around like Mathews does (i.e.: his opposition to the war prior to the invasion).

I think the prior posts are right, Hardball is a blatant attempt at overcompensating for the lack of balls.

  101. Dave Says:

You know folks, in the past, a TRUCKLOAD of Hardball
viewers were Democrats, Libertarians, Naderites and Independants…. MILLIONS of NON-Republicans.

Spread the word and BOYCOTT the Matthews-Mouthpiece.
Hardball SUCKS.Chris can do some nice, snappy info-mercials for Halliburton when his ratings go down the
    propogandist drain.

  102. Mike Panico Says:

They should rename his show “TURDBALL”.

  103. thorgal Says:

haha, you North-Americans are really lucky, you have so much fun with your talk show guys! circus on TV, direct live ! :D :D

seriously, what kind of fashion is that ? these clowns animating talkshows that are supposed to go deep into things ??? arf arf arf … TV is a spinning tool, what kind of credit can you give to guys like that ?
and for the other part, we all know politicians are corrupt. They’re just officious representents of the lobbies or companies that financed them to voice their interests … ahhh democracy + capitalism = mess

(but i have nothing better to propose, sorry about that … )

He’s changed, WHY? Afraid of Bush/Cheney? Biased and now on Wash. K-Street Payroll? New Right Wing talk show on Fridays show segment? Always many snide remarks about Democrates? Needs to Apologize to Michael Moore and John Kerry for his “Biased” Remarks and On and ON new “Off the Wall” comments? I’ve stopped watching HIS SHOW and encourage everyone to stop listening… boycott the FOXEY REPORTER!

  106. JIMBO Says:

The mainstream media is now, thanks to corporate influence, licking the asses of the Bush Administration, uh, I mean the Fourth Reich.

Continue to kick Chrissy and the media around. We can’t give up. I will send my fifth e-mail to Chrissy demanding an apology for Michael Moore and assuming that we, in the progressive movement are stupid. I will tape Hardball and speed through the crap. At least it won’t interfere since I’ll be watching Olbermann and in the following hour, “Lost.”

Hey, at least more people watch “Lost” than that Throaty McHuskington who is supposed to be Rita Cosby.

  107. Janet Houser Says:

Matthews is officially on my “ignore” list like the rest of the neoCons and their spam. I agree KO, Daily Show and Colbert are all we have left. Where is Bill Maher when you need him?

  108. Nemo Noone Says:

You stooges is fickle. Chris’s question to Delay was sublime, strategic, even brilliant. Read between the lines:

CM: “Congressman, you believed that you are invisible and can say or do whatever you please with impunity. Now you’ve had a number of rude awakenings–bottom line, you’re toast. Have you done any soul searching at all because of this? Do you see how sick and twisted you are? Give us a sign, Congressman, that you’re washing your hands, and leaving the trough of corruption behind. ARE you coming back as a committed public servant?”

TD: Chris, I am invisible as long as I believe I represent family values and the constitution (it wasn’t perfect, but it was better than what we have now). If you don’t like the way I drive then stay off the sidewalk, period. Bottom line Chris, me, my family, my guys in my private army, we rule the land. We rule the waves. We rule the sky and everything everywhere. Give it up, you can never win. I win all stalemates. I can’t lose so just dry up and drop off, sucker.”

CM: “There it is folks, the Congressman’s stunning Tourette’s Syndrome, caught by our cameras, here on the street outside his home where, until now, he probably must have felt pretty darned safe as one of the ascendant ubermittleklass commuters in this Houston suburb. Hey, I don’t feel safe here, I miss Philly, and I’ll be coming home as soon as I’ve overseen this pre-election. It was worth the trip to see his

    Royal Highness

do his little snake dance for us! Hey, somebody get me some new shoelaces–mine are all full of sugar.”

He’s so good, no one else comes close. I read you, CM.

    Best regards from

    The Nooner

I live in Richmond, Tx. a neighboring community to Sugarland. Sugarland is NOT called Sugarland because of the old sugar factories that were there, Sugarland is Sugarland cause you need the “sugar” & the “cash” to live there. Believe me brothers and sisters it ain’t cheap !! Our latest Ft.Bend County poll of 3100 residents in Sugarland & Richmond was conclusive in the fact that 58% of those polled said they would NOT vote for Delay again. And this from a county that is amazingly neocon. Ft. Bend county is primarily Sugarland, Richmond & Rosenberg and is one of the wealthiest counties in the nation not just Texas. Delay’s a liar and a crook and is in troulble in his little haven “Sugarland” or Texas District 22. As a diehard progressive in a world of neocon b.s. I, for one, can’t wait until Ronnie Earle, the Texas State lead D.A. fries his ass. I hope Earle “honey roasts” his ass with a ltlle sugar sauce topping. :-)

    Welcome Aboard Dangerous Dan,

I can attest to what you say about the fabulous layout of the community there, as I’ve visited Texas on a number of occasions and made a pit stop or two in Sugarland…

Helluva golf course there winding through the community…

That’s heartening news that the extremely conservative neocons of Sugarland and Fort Bend County are planning to turn their backs on that loathsome criminal…

But with all due respect to your sunny report, and optimism sir…

    I’ll believe it when I see it…

  111. Noe Says:

Can’t look at O’Reilly or Hannity, but I could tolerate Matthews. Don’t get me wrong, I am a Sirius radio addict, and get news from plenty of sources on the net. But after this pathetic excuse of an interview that was blatantly right-biased, I’m done with him. I am happy to pass the “Boycott” message!

  112. Brad Eleven Says:

I also live in Richmond (hey, Dan!), and have met DeLay on several occasions, politically and as a fellow church member. My personal experience of the man is low integrity, i.e., he made promises that he either forgot or outright broke. I guess promises without money behind ‘em don’t count.

Notice how, in the interview, how he touts what he’s done for NASA and Ellington Field. Those facilities are fifty miles from Sugar Land. I have yet to see what District 22 looks like on a map, but something tells me it looks a lot like a salamander named Gerry. DeLay may have chosen “more Democrats” when he carved out his own district, but he also kept the millionaires in Sugar Land and Sweetwater and the military/NASA pork over in the Clear Lake area.

I haven’t met anyone in my community who says s/he will vote for DeLay–at least not to my face–and I go out of my way to ask.
