I also live in Richmond (hey, Dan!), and have met DeLay on several occasions, politically and as a fellow church member. My personal experience of the man is low integrity, i.e., he made promises that he either forgot or outright broke. I guess promises without money behind ‘em don’t count.

Notice how, in the interview, how he touts what he’s done for NASA and Ellington Field. Those facilities are fifty miles from Sugar Land. I have yet to see what District 22 looks like on a map, but something tells me it looks a lot like a salamander named Gerry. DeLay may have chosen “more Democrats” when he carved out his own district, but he also kept the millionaires in Sugar Land and Sweetwater and the military/NASA pork over in the Clear Lake area.

I haven’t met anyone in my community who says s/he will vote for DeLay–at least not to my face–and I go out of my way to ask.

I can attest to what you say about the fabulous layout of the community there, as I’ve visited Texas on a number of occasions and made a pit stop or two in Sugarland…

Helluva golf course there winding through the community…

I live in Richmond, Tx. a neighboring community to Sugarland. Sugarland is NOT called Sugarland because of the old sugar factories that were there, Sugarland is Sugarland cause you need the “sugar” & the “cash” to live there. Our latest Ft.Bend County poll of 3100 residents in Sugarland & Richmond was conclusive in the fact that 58% of those polled said they would NOT vote for Delay again. And this from a county that is amazingly neocon. Ft. Bend county is primarily Sugarland, Richmond & Rosenberg and is one of the wealthiest counties in the nation not just Texas. Delay’s a liar and a crook and is in troulble in his little haven “Sugarland” or Texas District 22. As a diehard progressive in a world of neocon b.s.
