Army near breaking point.

“Stretched by frequent troop rotations to Iraq and Afghanistan, the Army has become a “thin green line” that could snap unless relief comes soon, according to a study for the Pentagon.”

This is hardly surprising news. What is surprising isn’t it hasn’t happened already.

  2. MrTude says:

What I find surprising is that the Pentagon actually published this report. To me, this speaks volumes that the military is quite upset with Bush & Co. I’m sure George will fire someone over this.

  3. Gus, Cross Country OBGYN Lover says:

“Breakng point” is a euphamism for “we’re losing”.
I am still shocked that PNAC for a single moment overlooked the size of their bizarre vision.

  4. Evil Spaniard says:

And bushites keep making “friends”. Look at the unrest in Pakistan, the bullying goes on with Iran, Cuba, Venezuela…

What does these 3 countries have in common that bushco wants?

Its too damn bad that the MSM hasn’t back John Murta on this instead of Swiftboating and honest man ,who only goal is to help stop the blood letting of gwbush…

Now onward to Iran Flyboys and girls drop them bombs on the good people of Iran ,damn is that a new born baby oops sorry miss the right target.. was suppose to be that Nuclear Facility … News reports Americans accidently bomb a neighborhood close to a nuclear facility ,noone said I’m sorry to the family of a new born baby…pc reports… when in the hell is Our Congress going to step up to the plate and Impeach these mafiagoons……

  6. me to me says:

so, in a nutshell they are going public with the information they made murtha go public with because they didn’t have the balls to do it themselves

well, at least they are finally taking the ball themselves

  7. TJM says:

The article mentions the bonuses paid for retention last year but doesn’t quote a figure. The GAO estimated that against a budget of around $50 million for retention bonuses, the Army spent more than $400 million over budget. Would it have been that hard to put in the figures instead of just a narrative reference to it?
Murtha has said it,the GAO has said it, now it’s time for Rumsfeld to say it as he retires (although he should have been fired long ago).

  8. Democrat Soldier says:

#7 – You can’t expect Secretary Rumsfeld to actually take responsibility for his own actions! Heaven forbid!

Please, don’t expect the elected Republicans to actually adhere to the labels they give themselves, like the so-called “party of personal responsibility”. Nope, can’t do it, and won’t do it.

It’s a sad, pathetic day when an honorable veteran of the military is pilloried for telling the truth about the failed policies of the current administration. I’m sure that all the people who maligned Rep. Murtha for his statements about the military being near the breaking point will now apologize for their misstatements and calumny. I mean, it would be disingenuous at best, and an outright lie at worst, if they stand by their initial claims about Rep. Murtha.

  9. Sharon Cox says:

Hurry up yaall were off to Maraland today. Wheres my speech? Did ya put in there about the brave servicemen and women, how about all were doing over there so we don’t have to do it here.? Ya all be sure theres none of them there uh dissenters asking questions, i won’t put up with it ya hear. Get out of my window seat…..

  10. Pete Bogs says:

Bush will never admit he was wrong, even if all the facts are there in front of him… we can’t sustain our current level of involvement in Iraq, much less deal with Iran and other growing threats…

  11. Andrew says:

God save our great nation. God save us from ourselves!

  12. Preznit_Douchebag says:

Time for all those flag-waving pro-war jingoistic chickenhawks to drag their sorry @sses down to the local recruiting office to sign up for duty over in I-rack and I-ran…maybe they can actually put their own lives where their big fat mouth is, unlike their mentors Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh et. al. who had “other priorities” when they could have been serving in the military.

C’mon ‘wingers, put up or shut up.

  13. Preznit_Douchebag says:

By the way, I know Bush supposedly “served” in the military–though judging by his record, I can’t say that it was honorable service (getting “placed” in the champagne unit of the TANG and then skipping out to work on the campaign of one of daddy’s political buddies). But the point is, all these pro-Bushwar folks should be signing up to do the ugly “duty” that they expect other people’s family members to do.

  14. Andrew says:

They expect the poor to join the army and defend them. Just look at how much recruiting the armed forces do in Flint, Michigan for example.

I don’t mind them recruiting soldiers, for a lot of people it’s a chance to escape poverty and earn a living while serving your country. I just wish the sons and daughters of our elected officials would serve too. The Bush twins could serve in the Coast Guard chasing drug boats atleast.

  15. Cyra Brown says:

They will just say that they are aware of the issue, and have already “taken steps” to deal with it. But we will be chided for not being supportive of the troops, questioning their abilities, blah, blah, blah. But they are doing everything they can, like always. Which, like always, is as little as possible.

  16. SadSackSuperman says:

This would seem to give a fairly clean answer to the age-old election question of “Are we safer now than we were 2-, 4-, 6-years ago?”

What are the chances the Dems could play this one up for the mid-terms?

  17. IraqVet says:

How would ANYONE in this administration know about the hardships of the military, when you have CAREER Generals and politicians running the show???

GENERAL PACE? A Joke! EVERYONE knws the last TWO GENERALS that preceeded him were no friends of Ruinsfeld and they were sumarily removed and/or resigned because they know what was going to happen in this war…But, hey, PACE wanted to pad his resume and took the job…

Still, when you have the worst recruting numbers in history, an illegal stop loss on enlisted soldiers and officers, the highest casualty rate since Vietnam, growing dissention in the field of combat, inferior equipment, multiple deployments, and little (if any) allied support…It ONLY means ONE thing…

TIME TO GIVE ANOTHER SPEECH, BLAME CLINTON, and slur a decorated VETERAN to distract the people from the incompetent and flawwed leadership that has exposed the weakness of our military…

As long as DUMBYA has IDIOTS to defend his IDIOTIC policies and agendas, then all I have to do is hold my nose while the sh*t rises…Hey, after all, he has a ranch and deals with BS from time-to-time…

  18. Clif says:

Yea bush knows all about the hardship of military life, I mean he had to STOP DRINKING one weekend a month.

  19. mr ho says:

Buschco War Plan for Full Spectrum Dominance is a Bust.

  20. cynical ex-hippie says:

The Bush twins need to be walking point on Fallujah slum patrol.

Then they’ll actually have a darn good reason to drink.

  21. progressive and proud says:

Time for the chickenhawks to actually do something for this country.

  22. Todd says:

I am sure that the Bush administration must think it is “shameful” that the Pentagon “leaked” this information to the press and gave “aid and comfort” to the enemy.

  23. Clif says:

#22 Which enemy are you refering to; the ones overseas who disagree with bush or the ones here at home who disagree with bush.

  24. ElectricBassPlayer says:

Time to Swift Boat the Pentagon.

  25. Spudge_Boy says:

You think real military people didn’t like having one fo their most honorable veterans swift boated. You bet your ass.

What’s the point of serving your country in the Marines for 37 years and a very long career as a politician, just to be called a traitor by the like of Anne Coulter and Bill O’Rielly, not to mention fellow politicians that up until that point felt that Murtha was somebody to look up to.

  26. Clif says:

We don’t have to swiftboat the pentagon, just ACCURATELY report whether Cheny, wolfowitz, feith served, and have Bush and the pentagon release ALL of bush’s records, Let the truth with no spin speak for itself.

  27. Don says:

Hey, the good news is that we can’t invade any more countries for a while.

  28. Clif says:

But I think they are trying to come up with a plan to bomb one in the future.

  29. Todd says:

#23…According to the wingnuts, those two enemies are one and the same…..

  30. Clif says:

I know but they are splitting hairs for constitutional purposes, like the domestic ones have constitutional guarantees that the foreign ones lack so they have to find a way around the constitutional dilemma that they are in with out John Q. Public seeing them for the criminals they are

The big green d*ck needs Viagra.

Or, this is Rummy’s “brokeback mountain”

  32. cynical ex-hippie says:

Republicans aren’t tough on defense. Only tough on our troops.

  33. Lady's Rule says:

Does this administration really support our troops?

How is sending our troops to fight an unprovoked war supporting them? How is sending our troops into conflict without appropriate body armour supporting our troops?
How is smearing vets for their service (purple bandaids stunt and questioning the severity of injury) supporting our troops? How is taking benefits away from our vets supporting our troops?
