At the very least, donate to the USO. They need the money to help out our military. There are a multitude of organizations that actually provide assistance to our military.
If you’d rather, spend your time calling your congressmen/women and ask them to push for funding of protective armor for our military men & women and their vehicles.
You don’t have to support the war to support our military.
You don’t have to support the President to support our troops!
It’s not their fault that Pres. Bush sent them to a war for oil!
January 25th, 2006 at 8:37 amRick isn’t even referring to a SUPPORT THE TROOPS ribbon. He wants you to put HIS bumper sticker your car as a show of support for the troops. Reminds me of Rush’s “adopt a soldier” by giving him $49.99 to purchase a subscription of Rush mag to send to the troops.

Sen. Santorum is representative of what the currently elected Republican party stands for: lies, self-aggrandizing behavior, and maligning anyone who isn’t an imbiber of the kool-aid.
I wonder if we’re going to hear from any trolls today? Anyone want to stand up and support Sen. Santorum and his ’support the troops by buying my election bumper sticker?’ campaign? Anyone?

January 25th, 2006 at 9:01 amI agree that Santorum is def promoting himself. He does seem to equivocate the term “serve” by comparing a “bumper sticker” version of serve for the country with a soldiers version of “serve”.

Better yet, Lets send our guys over there with no plan of action and inadequate body armor and outdated tactics and vehicles….oh, we already did that. Hmm…bumper stickers..could save money…HEY! I’m so happy I’ve found something in all this mess that I’ve been able to laugh at, because my spirits have really been crushed in the past few years. I’ve not been able to find much humor. By his own admission Douglas Barber, a former army reservist, was struggling. For two years since returning from the chaos and violence of Iraq, the 35-year-old had battled with his memories and his demons, the things he had seen and the fear he had experienced. Recently, it seemed he had turned a corner, securing medical help and counselling.
But last week, at his home in south-eastern Alabama, the National Guardsman e-mailed some friends and then changed the message on his answering machine. His new message told callers: “If you’re looking for Doug, I’m checking out of this world. I’ll see you on the other side.” Mr Barber dialled the police, stepped on to the porch with his shotgun and – after a brief stand-off with officers – shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

January 25th, 2006 at 1:48 pmNo spudge, a real republican is figuring how to maximise profits based upon the new investment environment the change in the defense posture is going to cause in the defence industry as shown in the stock prices, I mean with all the time spent with his portfolio adviser, banker, and listening to CNBC, how can we all expect him to take time out of this unique investment opportunity and miss out on the bull market spending time in some location he has no intention of ever vacationing in, besides aren’t there some people who can’t afford to pay for college or find a minimum wage job so they would like a chance of earning a military wage.

As a military vet with many friends that are vets, I feel really bad for these patriots. These guys and gals signed up to defend our country and instead are being used as cannon fodder.
I will admit that I did not see half of what the troops are seeing in this “war.” Operation Desert Storm was nothing compared to this thing we are tied up in. Don’t get me wrong, war is hell and I do not demean anybody from Desert Storm. What I do mean is that this “war” is much worse. I seriously feel ill at what our people are going through. We need to protect our soldiers, from here as much as they will protect us when we need them. But, this Iraq thing is not going well and needs to end.
How many of our troops are going to come back with missing arms and legs? How many will have serious mental issues? How many will have depression to such a degree that they do not want to live with their memories, like Douglas Barber?
