Christ is a good business and it allows the likes of Robertson to make a handsome living, even if they have to associate themselves with shady characters and international pariahs.

For instance, Robertson’s financial ties to Liberia’s strongman Charles Taylor were amply reported as were his ties to Zaire’s (Congo) Mobutu Sese Seko who openly supported the genocide of Tutsis in Rwanda in 1994.

[Pat] Robertson, through Freedom Gold Limited, an offshore company registered in the Cayman Islands but based at CBN headquarters in Virginia Beach, signed an agreement with Taylor and key cabinet members allowing the for-profit Freedom Gold to explore and receive mining rights in southeastern Liberia, where gold is believed to be in the ground.

Before Taylor, Robertson was in cahoots with the late brutal and rapacious dictator of Zaire, Mobutu Sese Seko, alias the “President of Kleptocracy.” Mobutu gave Robertson’s privately formed African Development Co. concessions to hunt for diamonds and gold in Zaire in the ’90s. That venture, alas, went bust.

In 1994 [Robertson] made an emotional plea on The 700 Club for cash donations to Operation Blessing to support airlifts of refugees from the Rwandan civil war to Zaire (now Congo). Reporter Bill Sizemore of The Virginian Pilot later discovered that Operation Blessing’s planes were transporting diamond-mining equipment for the African Development Corporation, a Robertson-owned venture initiated with the cooperation of Zaire’s then-dictator Mobutu Sese Seko.

As a final note, Taylor is currently living in exile in Nigeria. He has been indicted and is wanted for crimes against humanity and war crimes:
Charles Taylor is alleged to have provided active support for the armed opposition Revolutionary United Front (RUF) during Sierra Leone’s conflict, which was characterized by some of the worst human rights abuses ever known.
These included widespread deliberate and arbitrary killings of civilians, torture, including rape and deliberate amputation of limbs, and abduction and forced recruitment of large numbers of people, including children, many of whom were forced to fight. (Emphasis added)
