Someone recently compared what the Post and other newspapers are going through to battered-wife syndrome (not the Bisquick variety), and that sounds about right. After years of being hammered from the right about liberal-bias, they’ve become too self-concious to risk anything not to the right of center. Still, the right keeps hammering. Now the left has begun to find its voice. Bloggers are doing the research, after the fact, that the Post doesn’t always have time to do given the need to be competitive time-wise. Not to let the Post or the Times off the hook, but newspapers are in a bind.
I go to the blogs to learn what the MSM misreported. Personally, I’d rather the Post give me responsible, factual reporting a day late than inaccurate information on time. I’d also like to ammend the concept of “Speaking truth to power” to include “and truth to obfuscation.”
Tough time to be a journalist, but reporters need to do better, and until they do, they’re going to get criticism from both sides.
Seems to me Willis misspoke. When the “evidence” was posted it was insulting crap. No one is in charge at the WaPo.

January 26th, 2006 at 12:02 pmI’m smiling at the absurd thought of big media trying to understand Tribal politics and logistics surrounding a single payment to a politician…
Please remember that “Indian Country” is at least as complicated as “The Middle East.”
