and “cameraman Doug Vogt were hit by an improvised explosive device near Taji, Iraq, and were in serious condition at a U.S. military hospital,” AP reports.
Name one Conservative media related institution, group or affilate that has lost ONE correspondent? Too ugly to face their own story? Oh they just hide behind the military, the one they have commandeered for their ancient relative’s dreams.I could be wrong but does the National Review or the Weekly Standard have their own journalists on the front lines?
Another journalist hurt in the throws of the occupation.
Don’t attack the journalist for trying to do his job, allbeit narrow in focus (ABC), nonetheless.
It’s sad — but this might wake up the media to return to the Iraq story, since they always cover it off and on as they lose interest. I’ve posted on my blog about this subject.
If ABC wasn’t just another propaganda arm for this administration I’d be more inclined to agree that Woodruff was over there as an intrepid member of the press trying to shed light on what’s really happening in Iraq. He’s not, he’s providing grist for the propaganda mill. That said, it’s very sad that it’ll take more incidents like this to bring attnetion to how dangerous Iraq still is. You can bet Woodruff had the best security that money can buy, and still…….
They know how dangerous a place Iraq is and they don’t have to be there. Sometimes you make your own bed.

Why not Ben? Cmon Brave one. You find humour when another Mans blood is spilt on a Foreign Soil? Yet you wont go over their and fight for your Preznit, then you arent a True neo-con are you? I mean if you WERE you would beover their killing Iraqis right? Isnt that what a True Bush Rove War monger Supporter should do? Line up behind the right?
Now, Ben you have laughed at anothers mans injuries.
Therefore you are not a Man, but a Coward.

wow… according to the news story, these 2 brave newsmen, wearing helmets, safety glasses, and full body armor, decided to get into an iraqi mechanized vehicle to see what that’s like. I guess they found out. I hope they weren’t permanently hurt, and I hope they get better soon.
Folks, if the Iraqi army can’t get protect an armored convoy when the ABC news anchor comes over for show-n-tell, then that pretty much proves they aren’t in control of Iraq. Iraq is completely wrecked, far more death and poverty than before we showed up to “help”, and now el-Busho is gunning for Iran next. God help us.
Is it not possible that both President Bush and Bob Woodruff can be men of integrity? Why must you guys always conclude that everybody who disagrees with your politics is necessarily hypocritical and evil? If William F. Buckley suddenly donned body armour and went blazing into a Falujah firefight would any anti-war liberal change his mind? And if Hillary Clinton admitted the war has brought life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to Baghdad, would any conservative vote for her in 2008? I’m pretty sure none of us are clairvoyent, yet so many are passing judgments on the hearts and motives of men we’ve never met. We disagree, alright, then at least have the personal dignity to grant the other guy an honest heart, however misguided you may think their thinking is.

Among the journalists killed in Iraq in 2005 was Steve Vincent,a free-lancer who had been published by the NYT,Christian Science Monitor and the National Review.

Hillary is republican lite and will not get my vote either.
I would like to solicit opinions from everyone (except the trolls of course) on who they believe are the viable choices to be the Democrat presidential candidate for 08′?
I agree with the Hillary detractors for a number of reasons. I think Dean, Gore, and even Russ Feingold have been more serious about keeping our democracy alive than any one of Biden, Clinton or Kerry. Would be curious to know what others think.
jay, 34 – i think let’s get congress back in 06, THEN work on 08…

OK, if you want to be completely pactical, I’m game. Let’s get focused like lasers on the integrity of the voting apparatus/process prior to 06′. The evidence is overwhelming that the process of counting the votes is compromised by partisans (i.e. Diebold, Sequoia and ES&S). I think we need a powerful grass/netroots campaign to address this issue.
yup – those voting machines sure worry me…listening to Ring of Fire on airamericaradio yesterday…bobby’s guest was Mark Crispin Miller, author of Fooled Again: How the Right Stole the 2004 Election and Why They’ll Steal the Next One Too (Unless We Stop Them)…i don’t recal that they got to the “stop them” part…it will have to be a massive voting effort on the progressive’s part…
Dems are pro war because like the Republicans, at the end of the day they work for AIPAC and Israel. That’s where Dems and Repubs are truly united, but that never makes it to the public.
We will never see peace in the Arab lands as long as there are Republicans and Democrats who take money from AIPAC.
#34… Hillary would blow up on the Dems. She has waaay too much baggage to overcome. If a woman is going to be elected President, it must be someone who doesn’t evoke such emotion from voters. Hillary is too easy a target for the repubs. I’m sure they would love to see her run. If the past serves to show us the future, the repubs will attack every potentially strong candidate and lay off “beatable” ones. While they hate Hillary, expect them to show her “respect” for her wonderful potential to be President. Unfortunately, Hillary has such a large ego, that she can’t help but run. That’s been her goal from the day she and Bill left the White House. Reality isn’t going to stop her efforts to be the Democratic candidate in 2008.
i agree with most of what you say, sw bob…hillary’s candidacy would be much too divisive to the country – talk about your civil war! but molly ivans summed it up nicely the other day: http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?ItemID=20250
Mark Crispin Miller has done his homework and is (along with Bev Harris at Blackboxvoting and Greg Palast) the authoratative source on the issue. Unfortunately the mainstream paints him as a fringe conspiracy theorist. Can’t argue with his facts and evidence though.
Gus, sure there’s AIPAC, but what about American geopolitical strategy? Why can’t smart, progressive Democrats get serious about kicking the fossil fuel habit? Until we admit that this addiction lies at the root of the terrorist problem (not to mention the obvious environmental costs) and until we address the fact that the military/industrial complex makes war both necessary and extremely profitable, war will continue to be “the American way”.
Larry, which came first the hypocracy or the evil? My comment about the national Review and The Weekly Standard was about thier armchair involvement or lack of any real on the ground coverage. i believe the word is ELITIST. The notion that the Neocons and this administration have no problem executing anything. Their follow up is deplorable and frankly a big enough part of the equation that needs a little improvement. There is no real voice other than an occasional Fox documentary, I could only find one, from the Right regarding anything they deem unsightly. The are by default not creating another version of their own other than to respond to what a critic my supply. Doesn’t seem Ironic that it’s there big show why not sell tickets just like they did in the Civil War? Why just wait to counter what they see as unfair coverage to a story they started and don’t cover themselves. Again elitist arrogant hubris.
#17
There is NOTHING in the entire biography of GWBush that would indicate a shred of integrity. There is no need so speculate, Larry, he has shown us time and again, he has no integrity, he never did, and nothing he does contradicts that, or even bodes any doubt.
I am sorry that Mr. Woodruff and Mr. Vogt were seriously injured and I wish them a speedy recovery.
But let’s not start awarding integrity to Bush.
Bob, I’m with you on Hillary’s baggage and because she’s pandered to the middle/right on so many issues that we know don’t reflect her true position, she has sacrificed a great deal of credibility. Sure, politics forces a presidential hopeful to pick their battles carefully, but she’s been a sellout on some extremely important issues (Iraq for one). If the Democrats can’t muster the courage to fight for what they believe is right in this climate, while the GOP and the Bushies actively and openly work to dismantle checks and balances on all fronts…..when would be a good time? What the hell are they waiting for?
O. K. I’ll take the bait, like a big mouthed bass. No on Hillery, because she is for this illegal war. Her contrabutions are better served in N.Y. They like her, keep her. I like her, thought she was a great first lady but no go for president. My choice would be for Gore / Obama. Met Gore, great strong man. Obama is showing lot’s of promise. Gotta agree with Molly on this one……Blessings
Obama? (and I know our friend from Chicago may disagree here….sorry Marie :) Barack Obama of all people should have been leading the fight against Alito and until the last 48 hours was in the “keep your powder dry” camp. WTF Barack? It’s time to lead! He continues to disappoint me.
I think, put your energy in watching what Dick Cheney does. Who is going to continue this PNAC plan for them next? George Allen? Gulliani, McCain, I don’t think so. Elect from the center and then appoint from the left.
fly-man, good question about who picks up the ball with the PNAC plan. Since I’ve heard that George Allen is the insiders (i.e. Rovian) choice for 08′ I’ve gotta believe he’d be the man to carry the PNAC torch. Much speculation that Cheney will run himslef but I can’t fathom ANY circumstance under which he’d appear viable to the GOP establishment that isn’t completely evil (oh, right…on second thought….keep an eye on the Dick….yikes!).
#48 Jay, Thanks for the consideration.
I am still a Barack Obama supporter but I think it is too soon for him to be on the ticket for Prez. I share your disappointment in his middle-of-the-road stand on the filibuster, but I am willing to give him time to become more established before I pounce on him too hard.
I would be happy with Gore for prez. I am disappointed in some of the more well-known in govt. because of their inability to show more courage. Kerry came out for the filibuster (as did Clinton) when it was apparent that it owuld never happen anyway, so it was merely symbolic.
Hillary is running for the Senate. I don’t know why everyone thinks she will run for President. Besides the Republican will tear her apart.
I think Senator Russ Feingold would make a great President.
He voted against the Iraq war and is voting against Samuel Alito.
He is fighting for our rights on the Patriot Act. I hope he will run.
I also pray for these two Journalists and the military. My heart goes out to all the military that is over in Iraq fighting this unjust war. We need to bring our troops home by the end of the year as Senator Russ Feingold and Murtha have said.
Well…. I feel terrible for the Woodruff and Vogt families but at least now they realize what pure and real American families feel when their loved ones are hurt. The veterans, who die and are maimed everyday for a country that DOES NOT deserve them. Next time ABC wants to make “little Americans” out of these medieval camel jockeys they will realize that this is humans versus up-right apes and do NOT ascribe Western values to those who have NOT fought for our rights… have NOT sacrificed for our rights and do NOT understand anything but natural law. My fore-fathers died to preserve this country since (maternal) 1690 and (1890 kicked out of UK for ‘Republican’ tendencies) paternal and their blood was for THEIR progeny — not just one more inferior global culture. Criticize those who die for you for minimum (less) wage again and show your historical and current stupidity. Oh, but that was Dan (I made my name on the JKF assasination) Rather. Eastern arrogant idiots.
Michael,
Shit (and I use that word sparingly.) the term camel jockeys is an insult to the people who invented the decimal numbering system and also came up with the concept of zero.
Perhaps the latter describes your IQ.
Yours is a rabidly -and hysterically- racist rant. Are you sure Arabs/Iraqis/MiddleEasterners are “medieval camel jockeys”, “up-right apes”, and an “inferior global culture”?
Do you have epithets for all other non-American cultures? Do you also consider all non-WASPS to be inferior and nothing but “up-right apes”?
Do you think it is ok to exterminate them all, since they are not human?

“All truth passes through 3 stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.” Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher (1788 – 1860)
“…the conclusion that the President of the United States has been breaking the law repeatedly and persistently.” — Al Gore’s Martin Luther King Day Speech Monday, 16 January 2006
I am completely against this administration and its policies. That said, I find it rather interesting that a majority of you have no sympathy for the two journalists injured in the explosion in Iraq. Does it make a difference who they work for? If they worked for a group you agree with would you have a different attitude? One of things I learned from being in the army is the acceptance of others whether you agree with them or not. I can’t wait to read the vitriol committs that I am sure will follow.
having read all the posts here, i’m curious how “former army” #62 came to conclude that “a majority of you have no sympathy for the two journalists injured in the explosion in Iraq”…i sure didn’t get that impression…
try another tact…
#62 as a former EOD officer I have a lot of sympathy for anybody injured by an IED, I’ve seen to much after the fact both in images we studied to understand the results of an explosion on the human anatomy and real life experience by seeing the results in person, in desert storm. Damage to the human body through an explosion is much greater than any gun shot.
Next time ABC wants to make “little Americans†out of these medieval camel jockeys they will realize that this is humans versus up-right apes and do NOT ascribe Western values to those who have NOT fought for our rights… have NOT sacrificed for our rights and do NOT understand anything but natural law.

January 29th, 2006 at 12:47 pmThere is NOTHING in the entire biography of GWBush that would indicate a shred of integrity.
January 29th, 2006 at 12:50 pmO.
January 29th, 2006 at 12:52 pm#34, I, for one, agree with your assessments to date.
January 29th, 2006 at 12:52 pmSharon,
Obama? (and I know our friend from Chicago may disagree here….sorry Marie :) Barack Obama of all people should have been leading the fight against Alito and until the last 48 hours was in the “keep your powder dry” camp. WTF Barack? It’s time to lead! He continues to disappoint me.
Gore/Boxer anyone?
January 29th, 2006 at 12:58 pmI think, put your energy in watching what Dick Cheney does. Who is going to continue this PNAC plan for them next? George Allen? Gulliani, McCain, I don’t think so. Elect from the center and then appoint from the left.
January 29th, 2006 at 1:07 pmfly-man, good question about who picks up the ball with the PNAC plan.
January 29th, 2006 at 1:17 pm#48 Jay, Thanks for the consideration.
January 29th, 2006 at 3:28 pmI am still a Barack Obama supporter but I think it is too soon for him to be on the ticket for Prez.
January 29th, 2006 at 5:50 pmHe voted against the Iraq war and is voting against Samuel Alito.
He is fighting for our rights on the Patriot Act. I hope he will run.
I pray for the recovery of these two journalists.
It is unfortunate that they too have been caught up in the Bush disaster.
January 29th, 2006 at 6:06 pmI also pray for these two Journalists and the military. My heart goes out to all the military that is over in Iraq fighting this unjust war. We need to bring our troops home by the end of the year as Senator Russ Feingold and Murtha have said.

January 29th, 2006 at 7:12 pmFeingold has the right message and he speaks for me. I don’t know if he can win, however.
Maybe a Gore/Feingold ticket?
January 30th, 2006 at 12:42 amMichael,
January 30th, 2006 at 2:22 amShit (and I use that word sparingly.) the term camel jockeys is an insult to the people who invented the decimal numbering system and also came up with the concept of zero.
Perhaps the latter describes your IQ.
Michael,
Yours is a rabidly -and hysterically- racist rant.

January 30th, 2006 at 6:07 amI am completely against this administration and its policies.
January 30th, 2006 at 8:12 amMicheal, what would Jesus say about your rant against some of GOD’s children, and yes I’d like Osama’s answer to the same question.
January 30th, 2006 at 9:06 amhaving read all the posts here, i’m curious how “former army” #62 came to conclude that “a majority of you have no sympathy for the two journalists injured in the explosion in Iraq”…i sure didn’t get that impression…
January 30th, 2006 at 10:36 amtry another tact…
#62 as a former EOD officer I have a lot of sympathy for anybody injured by an IED, I’ve seen to much after the fact both in images we studied to understand the results of an explosion on the human anatomy and real life experience by seeing the results in person, in desert storm. Damage to the human body through an explosion is much greater than any gun shot.
January 30th, 2006 at 11:02 amI saw earlier on the Fox Propaganda network that the missile strike in Pakistan DID get the Al Qaeda “chief bomb maker”…
Can someone please explain what a “chief bomb maker” is?
January 30th, 2006 at 4:36 pmNext time ABC wants to make “little Americans†out of these medieval camel jockeys they will realize that this is humans versus up-right apes and do NOT ascribe Western values to those who have NOT fought for our rights… have NOT sacrificed for our rights and do NOT understand anything but natural law.

Besides identification, the boarding pass that has been printed is all that needs to be presented upon arriving at the airport. Currently
