January 31st, 2006 at 9:59 pmGreat job!
January 31st, 2006 at 10:01 pmCan’t connect to your webcast?!
But, you’re live-blogging during the speech knocked my socks off!! Great job! I’m going to print that whole series out and memorize it!
January 31st, 2006 at 10:04 pmYeah great job tonight.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:04 pmYet again, I am disappointed that he did not tear off his face and reveal himself to be Vorton, the Arch Majesty of the third moon of Leonid VII. Darnit, another hour wasted.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:05 pmI got the link to work by opening it through IE.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:05 pmClick open!!
January 31st, 2006 at 10:06 pmIE not working either. I received the pre-SOTU webcast fine, but still can’t connect now
January 31st, 2006 at 10:08 pmThank you for the wonderful job you did covering the speech. Excellent.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:09 pmGREAT JOB, BOSS.
I COPIED THE ‘FACT CHECK’ BLURBS AND POSTED THEM TO THE AOL COMMENT BOARD AS THEY WERE COMING IN. THEY DIDN’T KNOW WHAT HIT THEM.
ALSO TOOK ALL THE BLURBS AND MADE A “FACT-CHECKING THE CHIMP” E-MAIL AND SENT IT OUT TO A WIDE GROUP OF PEOPLE, URGING THEM TO PASS IT ALONG.
THANKS AGAIN.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:09 pmGlad you all enjoyed the blogging — Judd, Faiz, and Nico all look forward to your calls tonight!
January 31st, 2006 at 10:09 pmCool – will Listen.
I blogged the SOTU live over at the Peace Takes Courage Blog
It was just another Bush speech with the same ‘ole BS.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:10 pmI am glad I did not watch Dubya’s address > too many LIES for my ears > lol.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:13 pmABC had their “special staff members” look at the 62 seperate paragraphs from the speech to determine how partisan the speech truly was. They determined that 48 of them could be mistaken, almost verbatim, for paragraphs from Clinton’s SOTU speeches.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:13 pmkudos and Huzzahs for your great coverage.. it give me hope for the future of our democracy that people like you are are Cowboying up.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:14 pmI’m just getting some techo music…
January 31st, 2006 at 10:15 pmOk, got it now.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:16 pmI just watched some old videotapes of the old Joe Isuzu commercials and John Lovitz’ character, Tommy Flanagan. yeah, that’s the ticket.
Who needs to see that chimp and his lying, moving lips.

January 31st, 2006 at 10:18 pmIt’s Bush’s job to just say crap over and over again! They know how to convince enough people to give them cover.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:19 pmI think Tim Kane (Gov of Virginia who provided Democrat response) is very good for a Gov.! Most of the responses are babbling, rambling, etc. He is doing a fairly good job.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:20 pmA simply terrible political speech, in my opinion. Surprisingly weak…I can’t imagine this smelly piece of crap will help him with any part of the electorate…If I was a republican, I would be quite concerned….
–
January 31st, 2006 at 10:20 pmTP, thanks so much for a superb job – over in Britain right now we have sycophantic reporters live interviewing the likes of Santorum just as Matthews interviewed DeLay.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:24 pmGreat job everyone.I watch the body lang. from Cheney when bush started his talk about wiretap ,Cheney covered his lips ,moved around his chair ,chewed the inside of his lips ,covered his lips again, facial ticks. Then the Camera left Cheney who was a work in motion. These guys figure if they lie enough and do crazy smirks enough their old agenda will work on us Americans.
John Roberts was also a work in motion when bush started his work’n’ on the bench in instructing them on how they were going to “judge” Roberts jerk his head up and down.elito sat like a stone man ,saying silently see I take no sides .Does any one know why Cindy was ejected ? I didn’t see anything I was looking for her.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:26 pmRadio keeps cutting out. You guys are wondeful!
I think the radio was cut during commercials?
January 31st, 2006 at 10:28 pmI’m listening
January 31st, 2006 at 10:29 pm20,handfixer: I have to disagree about the Gov’s speech. Actually, I have to disagree about the delivery. Stunk on ice. Emotionless. The words wanted to be MLK’s ‘I have a dream!’ in its ‘There is a better way’ repitition, but the voice was flat. Not John Kerry flat, but… just bleh. Which was sad, it had promise.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:31 pmDid any Democrats walk out of his address?
I could not watch it because Bush LIES too much > lol.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:31 pm“If America is addicted to oil then Bush is the dealer”
LOL
January 31st, 2006 at 10:33 pmSo how long before he said 9/11 this time?
January 31st, 2006 at 10:34 pmHis highness was just laying the groundwork for the upcoming elections. He would like everyone to be civil now, oh, and a, ya he’d like to approve all criticism of him or his admin. in advance.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:38 pmIran will be the proverbial red meat thrown to the war hungry in the lead up. That’s a sure vote getter. I hope the voters know the consequences. Iran ain’t no Iraq!
Terrible speech. No substance. Defiant. No conciliatory words or intent coming from Bush. It’s all “my way or no way.”
January 31st, 2006 at 10:41 pmGov. Kaine’s speech was much better; related to people and their concerns.
As for freedom — the Patriot Act contains a provision that would give law enforcement officials authority to remove and arrest protesters/demonstrators. So much for free speech, freedome to congregate and freedom to criticize the government. Remember Tiannamen Square?
Dubya actually said he welcomes criticism, thats a laugh. LOL
January 31st, 2006 at 10:41 pmI always thought “free speech” and “freedom to demonstrate and assemble” sounded too good to be true, I guess my hunch was correct. That stuff is not REALLY tolerated.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:42 pmHealthcare costs are high so the elderly die as soon as possible. We can’t afford to keep ‘um very long since medicare/ss are in such shape.
I can’t believe anyone would be taking credit for how things are going right now. Cheerleaders are so shallow. At least visually. I don’t know any cheerleaders…
January 31st, 2006 at 10:43 pm#26 – Listen to what was said and stop wanting to be entertained. The content was on the mark. It is a start.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:43 pmI loved George Bush’s Advanced Energy Initiative.
I could have sworn was just about to say they had discovered how to crush wheat kernels with a wheel turned by water, making nutrious flour.
Hello, how about something new.
So, it is business as usual when it comes to energy.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:45 pmHere’s a good one for you:
Cindy Sheehan Arrested in House Chamber
“Let us never forget the sacrifices of America’s military families.” (applause)
January 31st, 2006 at 10:47 pm– George W. Bush, State of the Union, Jan. 31, 2006
Did he mention veterans? I can’t bear to listen. He never said the word Veteran in 2005.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:51 pmWhy was Cindy arrested? What did she do?
January 31st, 2006 at 10:55 pm#38 “#26 – Listen to what was said and stop wanting to be entertained”
Err… I *did*.
Like I said “The words wanted to be MLK’s ‘I have a dream!’ in its ‘There is a better way’ repitition, but the voice was flat. ”
The *WORDS* were good. But the delivery was not. And, I’m sorry to say, but if someone is presenting a speech, it needs to be presented well.
The most beautiful of prose or poetry, when read improperly, will be odious.
And words that are trite and meaningless, when presented well, can be beautiful.
You hear it a lot when people speak with an accent. ‘I don’t care what you say, just keep talking.’ type things.
If I read the speech, I think its good. When I listened to it, I thought it awful.
January 31st, 2006 at 10:59 pmShe was wearing a shirt with an anti-war slogan on it.
Long live the First Ammendment!!!!
January 31st, 2006 at 11:03 pmCindy Sheehan was given an invitation to attend the State of the Union by California rep Lynn Woolsey. Cindy had a front row seat. She was asked to leave because she was wearing a t-shirt under her jacket that said “2245 How Many More?”
Sheehan arrested. Osama still lose. I feel safer.
January 31st, 2006 at 11:09 pmSheehan arrested. Osama still lose. I feel safer.

I’d like a t-shirt that says this, but i don’t want to go to Gitmo…
Yucky how can ANYONE miss your point? are they putting something in the water now?
January 31st, 2006 at 11:13 pmKerry Responds to State of the Union Address
President Bush tonight described a very different state of our union than the one most Americans live with every day. In fact, he described a fantasyland…

We think Americans want to know when the President lies to your face. I think so too. =]
January 31st, 2006 at 11:17 pmBush blew it by having Cindy Sheehan arrested!
This action makes Bush look very dictatorial and mean-spirited! She had a shirt on with the number of KIA in Iraq printed on it! If we cannot even mention those killed in a vile war for OIL, then America is a fascist dictatorship!
January 31st, 2006 at 11:18 pmThe percent numbers after their names represent how often they voted Democrat in 20 major votes during the present session of Congress.
While the other following Dems In Name Only (DINOs) voted “no,” they actually voted for Alito and the Bush Dictatorship plan by voting against the Dem filibuster.

January 31st, 2006 at 11:27 pmJudd, there is way too much good information here. Could you guys please put it into a PDF for us to download and save?
Please?
Thanks!
January 31st, 2006 at 11:28 pmAye Spudge I did as well =)
January 31st, 2006 at 11:28 pmDid any Democrats walk out on Bubble Boy’s constant chatter
during the SOTU?
If I was a member of Congress and saw Cindy get arrested, I’d walk out.
January 31st, 2006 at 11:33 pm#18, I often think of John Lovitz’s SNL character when I watch White House press briefings (actually, whenever I see ANY of this administration’s reps speaking), and earlier this evening I found myself humming the “Lancelot Link (Secret Chimp)” theme (some of you are old enough to remember) and picturing our ‘Chimp-in-Chief’ as ‘George Bush [not-so] Secret Chimp”.
OK, my mind works in strange ways (the ADD helps!), but that’s OK, maybe it helps me fight off the propaganda the MSM trys to fill us with 24/7. That, and a healthy dose of informed* skepticism.
Glad to see I’m not the only one from NH posting here!
*With the help of excellent sites like ThinkProgress.org, MediaMatters.org, the Center for American Progress (www.americanprogress.org), and many others.
January 31st, 2006 at 11:36 pmright on Jimbo…..I wanted wanted them all to STAND AND TURN THEIR BACKS TO BUSH…..that would have made our founding fathers SMILE.
January 31st, 2006 at 11:38 pmIt is being posted that Senator Mary Landrieu hugged and kissed Bush at his address event? If she did it was the kiss of political death for her career in DC!
January 31st, 2006 at 11:40 pmOops its Christy Harvey not Cindy…
January 31st, 2006 at 11:42 pmSo let’s See…”Addicted to Foreign Oil.” Sure George.
And NOW, the USA is going to switch to Twigs and Grass from the Heartland for ethanol. Hmmm.
That’s Odd though… Seeing as how the USA just invaded
and occupied the richest OIL reserves on earth.
… using the GI’s from that very same heartland…. Hmmm.
One Citizen must wonder… China? India? Who? Where? When?
What? Is going to happen to all of that “Not-So-Foreign-Oil”… now that Iraq is colonized like a 51st state? … Protected with Our Very Own National Guard and Reserves.
This is Odd, Odd, INDEED. One of the Latest Republican Meta-Cons… getting a roll-out during “The State of the Union Speech.” Tricky Marketing, y’all!
Send Your Boys and Girls to Die for Mid-East Oil… for Cheney and Exxon and Enron…Yet don’t expect any of that OIL at home… that’s CONservatism
Instead, pay the price of New Technology innovations… and Let Cheney and Exxon and Enron OWN the World’s Oil… and FUEL their ongoing Industrial Revolution of China and India.
It seems, The State of the Union is of One UNDER SIEGE… One of Immense CONs against the Citizenry.
God Bless our Over-Deployed and Under-Supplied Troops. Bring the Home NOW. The Nation NEEDS its National Guard.
January 31st, 2006 at 11:46 pmJay Randal,
I posted about this in one of the Katrina threads. She didn’t kiss Bush, but she did hug him after his speech.
She is the same one who told CNN that “Now is not the time for asking questions.” She is the one who started that whole line of Republican talking points. She is definitely a DINO.
January 31st, 2006 at 11:49 pmI have been waiting for close to 2 hours to get through tonight. What does it take to talk? I read this blog all the time and I would like to think that our opinions mean something!! Didnt get in
Steve in columbia
January 31st, 2006 at 11:53 pmIN DEBT State of the Union..
And not a WORD of it. No talk of the $8 trillion in National Debt. And no word of the US TREASURY demand for $2+Trillion more.
What kind of discussion of the State of the Union would not include THAT?!
And No Acknowledgement of Mr. Greenspan leaving offfice. Of Bernake passing the Senate. What kind of Monetary Policy is so seemingly un-important to be left out of this Speech?
Pray Tell.
January 31st, 2006 at 11:54 pmthen, out of no-where, suddenly there is the Bat -Boy issue:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/31/politics/text-bush.html?pagewanted=7&_r=1
A hopeful society has institutions of science and medicine that do not cut ethical corners and that recognize the matchless value of every life. Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research, human cloning in all its forms, creating or implanting embryos for experiments
—– creating human-animal hybrids [!!!!] ——-
and buying, selling or patenting human embryos. Human life is a gift from our creator, and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale.
ok, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT ?!?!?!
This is a danger we need to fear ? His only mention of Bin Laden tried to tie him to….. Iraq ?!
Is this guy even ON EARTH ?!
January 31st, 2006 at 11:54 pmBloggers, please make a HUGE STINK about the President’s praise for building democracy around the world while Cindy Sheehan was being held under arrest to prevent her lodging a protest during his speech. I guess we’ve exported so much democracy abroad that we don’t have any left here. This should be just the item to make headlines and turn the SOTU into a big loser for Bush.
February 1st, 2006 at 12:00 amI THINK BUSH IS A HUMAN-ANIMAL HYBRID: CHIMP-BOY!
February 1st, 2006 at 12:09 amSad, sad scene….
February 1st, 2006 at 12:21 amDoes anyone have a clip of Rahm Immanuel (Senator Illinois?) from cspan; he made some great sharp points. I think he good do a rebuttal in future; what do you think?
February 1st, 2006 at 12:26 amOh boy, what a dumb move. From the front page:
CNN
January 31, 2006
Sheehan arrested in House gallery
Hah ah aha h ah ah ah ah ah.
Bush should have just met with Cindy Sheehan. She would have gone away if he would have just spent a couple of minutes consoling her on the loss of here son. But, his arrogance has turned Cindy Sheehan into “Sheehan.” DOes everybody know the significance of that? That means she is famous enough that the MSM can refer to her just by her last name.
Keep up the good work Bush. You make my job really easy.
February 1st, 2006 at 12:29 amNotes on the SOTU from Drinking Liberally in Philly.
February 1st, 2006 at 12:31 am“A civil suit will be filed against the federal government first thing tomorrow morning for violation of first amendment rights. Developing…”
Front page of MichaelMoore.com updated. Seems that Cindy is a little ticked off about losing, not only her son, but her freedom of speech too.
February 1st, 2006 at 12:32 amHello. Let me say this: I am a poor southerner, and a registered Democrat, who so far, hasn’t voted Democrat since before Daddy Bush, with NO regrets. At least W will fight, will you? Evidently not.
I won’t knock you guys for speaking your minds. I can’t, you see, me and mine fought in every major war so you can. (And some of you did too, I do NOT and will NOT belittle those that have, unlike you)
You have that right, because I served, my father served, my mother served, and my grandfather, my great-uncles (one who fought in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam) and my brother served.
Remember this: Next time, we won’t. Defend yourselves. You think it’s bad now? I will trade not dying for you, to watch you die because I won’t do what is right, just like you. I say it plain: I don’t care the reason YOU don’t want to fight, I care for the reason I will fight and die for YOU.
I could care less why we went to Iraq, and you should too, you see, YOU did not join and fight, YOU did not take ANY risks, but I damn sure did, and so did my family. It is NOT your war, because YOU do nothing but sit HERE and use your Freedom of Speech I fought for like found coin.
But, I have the pride of knowing YOU can speak freely because of ME. I have that pride of knowing that me and mine fight so YOU will not have to. And one day, we will NOT fight for you. So be it, you decided to speak for me anyway right? Let’s see how well your speaking skills are when Osama sticks a knife in you while you speak flowery prose of love, YOUR truth and weak diplomacy.
You let me fight the wars, and do the HARD things, so that YOU can do the easy things, and not DO anything at all about what is wrong.
I will do it. I will fight AND die, all for YOU. You see, I take my task as an American seriously, I have no problems killing someone who will kill me. I have no problems letting you speak, after me and mine paid the price. I have no problems with knowing I did all the work and you reap all the profit.
Please remember this, while the bodies pile up over there, YOUR body is not piled up HERE. All thanks to ME.
February 1st, 2006 at 12:40 amSpudgeBoy > thanks for the info on Sen Landrieu about hugging President Bush after his address > she does dumb things that harm her! After Hurricane Katrina she praised Bush and FEMA while people were still drowning in New Orleans! Then she thanked Bush for rushing to fix the levees, but then she was taken by a News team by helicopter to see that one bulldozer with one man was working on it!
February 1st, 2006 at 12:44 amBush has done basically zero for Louisiana, but Mary thinks George will do so eventually > she is naive > lol.
Post 70 > TrueAmerican nobody is asking you to die for anybody on here! Bush invaded Iraq to seize its OIL fields, but if you want to believe his LIES, then go ahead and be foolish! Fighting in Iraq does NOTHING to protect America!
February 1st, 2006 at 12:48 amWhat did you think of the speech?
February 1st, 2006 at 12:50 amhttp://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/6626071/detail.html
Post 69 I mean > lol > lost count!
February 1st, 2006 at 12:51 amShave your pubes and rid yourself of unwanted Bush. It is refreshing and so symbolic.

February 1st, 2006 at 1:05 amAnti-war activist Cindy Sheehan was arrested Tuesday night before the start of the president’s State of the Union address. A guest of California representative Lynn Woolsey, who has called for pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq, Sheehan was handcuffed in the House chamber for
wearing an anti-war T-shirt.
http://villagevoice.com/news/0605,nation,72033,6.html
Handcuffed?!?!?!?
Unless people are a lot more ignorant than I ever realized, this is bad news for Boy George.
February 1st, 2006 at 1:05 amTrue American. My grandfather left a leg in France in WWI, my dad served during Korea, my brother in the Coast Guard. You served also, all well and good.
Serving is honorable, a leader who knows the right fight to choose is priceless.
Bush is a chimp and a pussy who brags of his machoness but he won’t even field a question from 80 year old Helen Thomas at a press conference.

February 1st, 2006 at 1:09 amThe Top 10 State of the Union highlights:
1. Demonize the Democrats
February 1st, 2006 at 1:21 am2. Bait the Base
3. Cognitive Dissonance and the Bush Doctrine
4. Delicious Irony, Tehran Edition
5. Bitch Slapped on Social Security
6. What Health Care Plan?
7. Energy Crisis?
8. Pandering to African-Americans
9. Gang Banger Laura Bush?
10. Katrina and the Waves
I could not believe the lies and hypocrisy .. Every word out of that feeble “excuse for a man”’s mouth was a pure unadulterated lie! How does he live with himself? I forced myself to sit through the speech, and scared hell out of my cats and dog, yelling at the tv, using words they had formerly only heard on South Park.
Yeah, I’m gonna turn 60 this year too, George. I only hope that I live long enough to see Karma bite you in the ass.
By the way, Cindy Sheehan is scheduled to appear on Good Morning America tomorrow. They’d better treat her with respect!
February 1st, 2006 at 1:30 amAm I the only one who noticed that he lip-synced a big part of the speech?
February 1st, 2006 at 2:04 amPlease Pass this idea along to people if you think it is of value. beef it up,
develop it..or just pass it on to people who could make something happen
There is a great opportunity to really instill change in Washington and
perhaps restore the political system of this country nationwide.
Based on the current opinion polls, the level of public discontent is
unprecedented. The President is especially pressed with mass negative
support. So much so, that a recent poll showed a considerable number of
people believe he should be impeached or think he should be impeached if the
NSA espionage program is indeed real.
Yet the only strategy I hear is “If the democrats win back the congress they
will hold impeachment hearings” or “we are going to have a congressional
investigation to look into ALL of these allegations.” (You know as well as
every American…this won’t solve anything, its just theatre, just show.)
But…rapid, meaningful, and serious results can be accomplished if anyone
and everyone who is concerned about the state of our government, the
competence of its officials, it’s integrity, and its future as a united
Nation of the people take simple but resolute action…Now. (All people
regardless of party)
ACT NOW and contact your congressperson and elected officials, especially
those up for re-election this year(even State officials), to give them a
resounding ultimatum.
Clearly and decisively Demand “your civil servants” to immediately begin
full scale impeachment proceedings of the President and any Administration
official who stands accused of illicit, complicit, criminal activities,
incompetence, and/or betrayals of the public trust.
(this process will quickly reveal innocence , but the number of separate
activities in question and the growing body of evidence implicating guilt
requires immediate action)
Furthermore, inform all such officials (regardless of party) that if they
cannot/will not make such a commitment they betray their oath of office,
ignore their duty to the american people and the public trust, disavow their
pledge to uphold and defend the constitution, it’s founding principles, and
integrity of the Nation and it’s offices…..Therefore, you will not vote
for them, will actively inform your community and staunchly oppose their
re-election, and expeditiously remove them from office and replace them with
someone WHO WILL!
Make similar demands of any challenging candidates as well(in either party).
*Either they start cleaning house…..or “The People” will CLEAN THE HOUSE,
& THE SENATE!
Let them also know that partisan politics are not a reason for their lack of
action. This country and “We the People” always come before any party!
*
Virtually every district is up for re-election nationwide. If this message
were repeated in every district by enough people(and the polls say there are
more then enough for it to get traction), action will happen…rapidly.
It would also isolate corrupt and crooked lawmakers from the sincere who
fear backlash. It might also serve to shock the conscience and sense of
justice of our lawmakers, and force them to repair and restore integrity,
honor, and dignity throughout the political system which is in dire need of
resurrection.
Any and ALL concerned citizen who questions the honesty and integrity of
February 1st, 2006 at 2:31 amtheir elected representatives, who feels that their officials and lawmakers
have been derelict in their Duty to hold any and all officials of government
accountable to illegal, criminal, or unconscionable behavior, or those
entrusted to govern our lives have proven to be incompetent and negligent in
their ability to govern, never forget that they are privileged to be the
servants of the people, and only those who understand and respect this
principle and the public trust deserve your vote.

February 1st, 2006 at 2:32 amI was so happy to hear the President give a speech which reiterated our need for national security. He was right when he noted that the barbarians will not leave us alone if we choose to cut and run. And it was great to see our new Supreme Court Justice!!!
I was embarassed for poor Cindy Sheehan – it was kind of the the Capitol police to haul her off poor Casey’s coffin – again. Do you think politically minded Dems could have asked for her to be removed as they are not wanting her face to be the official “representative” of all that’s “left and good” about the Democrat Party? The fact is Americans may disagree on many issues, but Dems don’t inspire much confidence when it comes to national security.
Listening to that reasonable response from Governor Kaine left me wondering – where are the Dem proposals? All the Dems on the aisle can’t bend over far enough to grab the Presidents’ hand or have a little face time with him – too funny. They seem to have all the answers – except to the questions facing our country. They propose NOTHING. At least Hillary kept her eye-rolling to a minimum – but next time tell her to lose (or swallow) the gum.

I’ve been trying to sread the word too.
A letter of concern to Congress and the American people.
TO: WE THE PEOPLE
Both you and I are fully aware that what we are witnessing before our country, is possibly the largest power grab that American history will attest to. The volume of books are already into their second printing, and the future of Rove, Rumsfeld, and all of the like, will be dependent on their soon to be Doubleday@ contracts. History will be replete with the testimony of this power grab from the predictions of the perdition in the new American Democracy.
So let’s examine their works. The volumes that which they will be speaking of. This power grab of the millennia.
The Art of Deception: A book that can be attributed to being the bible of the RNC.
I have an idea. Possibly so Machiavellian in nature, that the RNC won’t even see it coming, and they might possibly walk away thanking the us.
In the Art of Deception, one learns the power attributed to being capable of manipulating one’s opponents into doing your bidding. Evil indeed, yet almost necessarily so. A taste of their own medicine.
As a whole, the DNC may be fractured and the American public is being sold a bill of goods from the RNC; that Humpty Dumpty can never be but back together again. More fairy tales from the spin masters. So if Humpty Dumpty is broken, then Humpty Dumpty needs the Kings horses and men to do some healing.
Gather up your kindling of disdain; petition your Congress to do their jobs and light the fires that will smoke out the corrupive, illicit, immoral Executive.
TO: CONGRESS
The president all but has thumbed his nose at Congress as a whole. The Legislative Branch. He has stated, equivocally, that he turned down an invitation by Congress to allow them to assist him in crafting the necessary laws and amendments to the FISA laws back in 2002, and in 2003. And has reinforced his unyielding position to Congress’ Constitutionally mandated job description to be the sole craftsmanship of law for the land.
Rise up Congress. You’re president dismissed you. His words smack of his arrogance. Take back your jobs and legislate.
RNC, DNC, Green Party and Independent. One and all, your president’s nebulous words spoken to the US populace have left more scratching their heads than following in suit. There is something a foot and America’s chagrin needs to be comforted, not ignored and lulled into submission.
Stand up Congress, and take your jobs back. It was our Founders express mandate that there be three EQUAL branches. One not to be more than another.
Executive, Legislative, Judiciary. Three equal branches, that if left unchecked will lead to the corruptive downward spiral of the Democracy that our Founding Fathers created for us.
The president dismissed the necessity to go to the FISA court because of the antiquation of the laws, as he would have you to believe. But that begs the bigger question. Why not let Congress assist the president in the craftsmanship of new FISA laws that ARE inclusive of the 21st century technologies? The absurdity of the president’s response all but begs for a subpoena from the DOJ as his recusal toward any necessity of explanation to his concept and legality rests only in National Security.
Be heard Congress. The silence beset upon the Democratic party that which is parlayed in the media, is infesting the integrity of Democracy its self. RNC, DNC, Green Party and Independent alike. Your president has made clear, that he will resist any attempt at including Congress in the craftsmanship of necessary law to make what he is doing, legal in the eyes of the court.
Something is afoot. And it is trampling upon Congress’ Constitutional job description. It is riping at the integrity of American values. And Congress needs to address the elephant in the room. With pole numbers bottoming out for both the RNC and the DNC members of Congress and a midterm elections at the door step, how can Congress sit there and take this? The lack of voter confidence, and the summarily dismissal by the president, all but shows that Congress needs to rise up and take their jobs back.
Show the voters what integrity looks like. Three equal branches that follow Constitutional law and implore a sense of checks and balances.
Rise up. Stand up. Be heard.
Congress is needed as mandated by WE THE PEOPLE through our Bill of Rights.

February 1st, 2006 at 2:46 amI’m a Cindy supporter, however, I wish she would have not decided to take that opportunity there to protest. Why? Because then she would be up front and Bush would HAVE to see her sitting there. She gave them a reason to arrest her and haul her away. I would have loved to see her sitting there on camera during his speech, because she’s like the thorn in his side that never goes away.
I noticed that Bush barely stuttered tonight? What’s up with that? Was he lip syncing to a pre-recorded tape? Wierd.
Laura Bush looks wierd in her eyes. I mean, just unexplainable stepford-ish looking.
WHY Do they ALWAYS have a Middle Eastern woman , wearing a Hijab, ALWAYS planted right next to Laura during these big speeches.
Addicted to oil? Who would that be? The one’s who decided to go decimate a country to secure it. Uh-huh.

This speech and every single one is an insult to the American people. Bush’s statements are so vague nevermind without validity, but never a figure at all to back up his statments. Does the American public get it? Also, people blame Bush and the administration. Firstly, Bush doesn’t write his speeches, secondly its we the people that need to make better choices period!!! Third, when will people realize, its the corporations that run the country, not the people or the GOVT!!!

Jay Randal,
That is bullshit. No “poor southerners” white or black, write that well, perfect spelling, grammar and syntax. Trust me, I know. It’s pure bullshit. It’s a doughy Republican pantload of a troll who is so fat and soft he can’t even go into a cheap dive like these fine Faux Republicans and claim he is a SEAl or SF operator because he just doesn’t look the part. When it comes time to vote, who do you think all these clowns vote for? Do you think liberals go around pretending to be SEALS?

February 1st, 2006 at 6:17 am“He’s not your commander in chief, unless you are active-duty military. Are you currently in active-duty service?”
That response always gets a perplexed look, as citing the Constitution tends to do in this era of constitutional ignorance, and only rarely ends in a straight answer to my question. The constitutionally literate are always suspected of being tinfoil-hat-wearing loons these days – until I continue: “Article Two of the U.S. Constitution says that ”he President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States.’ So if you are not in the military, the president isn’t your commander in chief, as far as the U.S. Constitution is concerned.”
That’s usually enough to shake all but the most pigheaded neocon imperialists. Demonstrating that Bush is not “my commander in chief” removes the foundation for the belief that they are somehow personally liable for loyalty to the president. After that, the entire false edifice of the imperial presidency can be knocked down.

TrueAmerican — Your assumption here is that the number of terrorists is A FIXED NUMBER, and that, therefore, if you don’t fight them there you will fight them at HOME.
But what if every innocent person you kill creates MORE TERRORISTS? What if it RADICALISES more MODERATE ARABS, who might actually prefer playing soccer and chasing a bird to being a suicide bomber, but who does it out of a sense of PATRIOTISM exactly like that which you express here?
What if terrorism is created from the fact that you’re occupying THEIR territory?
What if your strategic enemies – Russians, Chinese – prefer you to antagonise the world’s 1 billion muslims so that they can pick up the pieces after the fighting and the killing?
I appreciate that you are sincere, but Al Quaida is a problem CREATED by the US’s finance, support and ARMING of the Mujahiddin in Afghanistan during the eighties.
It is a by-product of YOUR FIGHT against the former Soviet Union. If you continue to assume that ALL people of Islamic faith are your enemies then the sad thing about life is that YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU WISH FOR.

February 1st, 2006 at 9:30 amCindy’s getting arrested shows what a complete dumbass this woman is. Everyone knew she was coming and where she would be seated. This is a very stupid individual.

I initially felt the same way. Then I realized that an image of her seated with Lynn Woolsey, her T-shirt clearly displayed would have brought smiles of approval from some, smirks of amusement from others, and scowls of anger from the right. No, I think exposure from her arrest will be far more reaching, far more people will be outraged by her gestapo-like removal.
February 1st, 2006 at 9:49 amLily, it seems that their been previous moments of removal.
Cindy Sheehan, the anti-war activist who was removed from the House gallery last night before the State of the Union address for wearing a t-shirt with a political message, is not the first person to be tossed from a Congressional gallery at a high-profile event for wearing a political t-shirt.
In the early days of the Senate’s impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton in January 1999, a Pennsylvania man named Dave Delp was removed by the Capitol police from the Senate gallery for wearing a t-shirt that said, “Clinton doesn’t inhale, he sucks.”
The Pennsylvania school teacher was yanked out of a VIP Senate gallery and briefly detained last week during the impeachment trial for wearing a T-shirt with graphic language dissing President Clinton.
Delp, 42, of Carlisle, Pa., and a friend had just settled into their seats when four Capitol security guards approached them. Delp said at the time that he was ordered to button his coat and follow the guards. Outside the chamber, he was told “several people felt threatened by your shirt.”
Even after establishing that Delp was a guest of Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), the guards wouldn’t let him back in and escorted him to a basement security area, where they questioned and photographed him.
After being given one of the photos as a souvenir, Delp said he was banned from the Capitol for the rest of the day. “They were polite and professional,” Delp added, “but they really did scare me. I think I should have been given the chance to cover up.”

Ben just because the government violated the rights of one individual doesn’t give them the inherant right to do it to others. Having served in the military and served in Desert Storm, I’m offended when ever any government official tries to silence an american citisen just because what they are saying doesn’t aligne with somebodies political correct program, it was wrong then it is wrong now, it was wrong when they removed a congressman’s wife for wearing a t-shirt supporting the troops. It is ironic we are told to support the troops but when someone publically shows that in the natiuons capitol they are censored for it. Censorship is pantiently unamerican, even if the ones that are doing it claim to be defending the american ideal in the capitol
February 1st, 2006 at 10:04 amApparently someone else may have been removed.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The wife of Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores, told a newspaper that she was ejected during the State of the Union address for wearing a T-shirt that says, “Support the Troops Defending Our Freedom.”
Beverly Young told the St. Petersburg Times that she was sitting in the front row of the House gallery Tuesday night when she was approached by someone who told her she needed to leave.
She said she reluctantly agreed, but argued with several officers in an outside hallway.
In a telephone interview with the newspaper, Young said she told them her shirt wasn’t a protest but a message of support.
Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said Young wasn’t ejected from the gallery and she left on her own. She couldn’t provide additional details.
Young’s husband found out about the incident after Bush’s speech and called it unacceptable.
Clif just curious, are you okay with anti abortion protesters standing outside clinics with their message? I am not talking about getting in people’s faces I am talking aout carrying signs of aborted fetuses.
February 1st, 2006 at 10:19 amLet me get this straight (no pun intended)…

No wonder you think bush screwing us all is glorious.

BTW young on span spoke about his wifes expulsion and had the shirt showing it on TV
February 1st, 2006 at 10:28 amI was just thinking, maybe we’re wrong to think of this as a violation of Freedom of Speech. Maybe they had a dress code, and Sheehan was actually arrested by the Fashion Police.
February 1st, 2006 at 10:32 amClif, that’s good to know because I feel the same way. Expression should not extend into harrassment but to the degree that it is merely a statement and there is nothing physical or screaming in someone’s face it should be permitted.
Someone said this morning that Cindy had also brought in a banner and hung it over the balcony. I have not seen further reporting of that. How in the hell does someone sneak a banner in?

I saw that on a re-run and would say that this sarcastic democrat response over Congress’ failure to address Social Security entitlements (that will one day doom the Union), can only reinforce their image as the Party of sneering disrespect, and hate. This is how The Filthy Left will “confront the great issues before us”, and will “act in a spirit of goodwill and respect for one another.”???
Then entire country (except for me and a few of my global capitalist business associates) saw Hillary for the feckless partisan wretch that she is and right then and there determined that the woman will never set foot in the White House again. The Donks are insane with rage, contempt and envy. 06 and 08 will see the end of the Democratic Party as we know it unless Clinton, Kennedy, Pelosi, Boxer, Dean, Kerry and a host of other “leaders” of the party all commit mass suicide after losing the elections.

February 1st, 2006 at 11:36 amSpudge & Jay Randal #46 – I hope you’re right.
Sounds like True American thinks it’s noble to fight for our rights but shameful to use them.
mighty aphro – If national security is your top priority, you should be advocating the impeachment of Bush & Cheney. They are actively antagonizing the rest of the civilized world but ignoring al Qaeda. And if your eyes were open, you would have been calling for Bush’s head on September 12, 2001, after he ignored warning after warning after warning that al Quaeda was “determined to strike in U.S.” The fact is, Bush failed to protect the country and now he’s putting it at even greater risk.
Also, check the list of Democrats who have fought & served vs the list of Republicans. I think there are 2 Republican congressman who have military experience: McCain & Graham (?)
February 1st, 2006 at 11:43 amYou all are making such a huge deal about Sheehan that you are missing the fact that forms of protest are simply NOT allowed during the SOTU addresses. Case in point: Beverly Young, wife of powerful Rep. C.W. Bill Young of Florida (chairman of the House Defense Appropriations subcommittee) was removed from the gallery because she was wearing a T-shirt that read, “Support the Troops _ Defending Our Freedom.”
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/politics/3628007.html
Even though her shirt supports the war, she was not allowed back into chambers as it was taken as an act of protest.
What? No crying for her 1st ammendment rights? No wailing and gnashing of teeth because her voice was silenced? Shouldn’t you all be fighting for everyone’s right to express themselves regardless of philisophical ideals?
February 1st, 2006 at 11:44 am# 130. yea, we know that reichtwingnutz love rage, seething anger and hate. It allows you to make poor emotionally based decisions without any rational thought.
You bushies love to say how you HATE/HATED Clinton (& Hillary). Yes, I can see why. Balanced budgets & PAYING DOWN the national debt must be infuriating to you. Being more popular than bush43, even during an impeachment, drives you nutz. Actually addressing the nations medical insurance needs rationally sent you over the top.
But that isn’t any excuse to project your hate on others. That isn’t progressives first choices when dealing with people we don’t agree with. I don’t hate anyone. Hate hurts the person doing the hating. I loathe most of bushco’s policies and priorities, but that is based on the policies and the priorities themselves, not the dumbya behind the curtain.
So stop projecting.
February 1st, 2006 at 12:03 pmReply to post 134 Scat > removing anybody from Bush’s blather address is wrong! Just because someone has a shirt on about the war is NOT a protest! Cindy Sheehan did NOT stand up and scream profanities at Bush > he was NOT even there yet according to news reports! It is obvious that Dubya or Karl Rove wanted Cindy removed before the speech started! The Republican lady removed was probably assumed to be with Cindy, but was actually the wife of a Republican Representative! Bush wants NO opposition present during his rants, unless they bow down and kiss his toes, like some Democrat Senators do … like Ben Nelson of Nebraska or Joe Lieberman or even Robert Byrd the turncoat!
February 1st, 2006 at 12:04 pmmighty aphrodite,
You must have seen a different SOTU than we did. Everything Bush said WAS a Democratic idea. That is how bad Bush is doing. He has to steal our ideas to try and gain some traction. They even had a panel of political analysts, who were republicans and democrats, who said that 48 of the 62 paragraphs could be mistaken for a Clinton speech.
Sorry, you lose.
February 1st, 2006 at 12:25 pmActually, doing it during the speech would have made the MSM label her “radical.” Instead, she got arrested before the speech, just sitting there minding her own business, which has lead to it being on the front page of every newspaper in the country. Very smart, but it would take a smart person to see that. Do you see that?
February 1st, 2006 at 12:31 pmI think that the entire ThinkProgress blog team did a great job with the two hour rebuttal on Think Progress radio. This should become a permanent part of Air America radio or should be covered with its own radio network. We also listened to the pre-buttal on Air America radio also featuring the ThinkProgress team which was also excellent. Needless to say, we didn’t actual listen to the President’s speech (used that time for reading and taking a nap to get ready for late night with ThinkProgress) Is there any hope that any Democrat can defeat a Republican in 2008? February 1st, 2006 at 12:45 pm#69 Hello.
My family was military all the way. Grandfather died in WW1, TWO grandfather’s in WWII one died, THREE uncles in vietnam, all came back, one died from complications of liver/alcoholism, and ONE cousin in Desert Storm. If my paternal grandfather were around to see what Bush has done to this country, I KNOW he would be AGAINST it. It’s even a sad day when I see and hear of conservatives saying how ashamed they are to have bush as their leader. My grandfather was a conservative. NOT A BLOOD thirsty war mongering NEO CON. And I know if he were around today he would be talking about the lessons not learned from Vietnam.
February 1st, 2006 at 12:51 pmI say to you, DON’T fight for me. IF YOU FIGHT FOR ANYTHING fight for the freedoms you are now losing. This country is slipping into an orwellian -like state with a tyrannical out of control leader. I’ll fight for myself, thank you. I’d rather die than live in a country where all of my rights are stolen away from me. I already have family, that lives on Pine ridge reservation. I already know the horror of what genocide has played upon the relics of my generational family. Do you think the native american indians are really a sovereign nation? What we are doing to the Iraqi’s and other’s in the middle east is nearly comparable to what we did to the Native Am Indians on our soil. We are taking their land, we are killing and clearing out the people who are fighting for THEIR land and freedom, and installing OUR version of democracy and how WE think they should be living.
General Sherman once said, “The only good indian is a dead indian”, Is this not the same mentality we now see in Iraq? Yes, I do believe it is. Please don’t try to tell me, they don’t tell these solidiers who go to kill these innocents that they are on equal footing with the human race. No. They are told they are lesser and like dogs so that they are easier to kill. Indians were called Injuns, and hostiles. Just so it would be easier to kill them too. Look at how our native americans live on many reservations today. They live in a state of poverty and the US doesn’t care. Same will happen with the Katrina victims, same will happen with the Iraqi people, and Iran will be next in this genocidal cleansing.
If you want to talk about spreading freedom and democracy, you have chosen the wrong president to get behind. The only thing they are interested in is killing to secure their intrests and there is NO HONOR in that. There is no honor in killing the innocent and the unarmed. Centuries ago, it would have made a man a dishonorable to kill a person who had no arms. The honor in this administraion does not exist.
They simply removed Saddam, who killed the kurds with chemicals and replaced him with Bush so he could continue the killing for him with white phos, torture prisons, and NOW the kidnapping of innocent nursing mothers so they can draw out people they want to capture. Honor in this? Where?
If you are talking about dying for a nation, at least die for an honorable reason, give your life for your freedoms because brother that is what’s coming next. Three years is a long time — and you’ll see what is in store for us.
That is a rumor. She wasn’t up on the balcony, she was on the floor.

From CNN:
Cindy Sheehan finally got her invitation to see President Bush again, but before she set eyes on him at the State of the Union address, Capitol Police removed her from the gallery overlooking the House chamber.
That doesn’t sound like the floor.

Yep that’s all Saddam did.
According to Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, Sddam was killing between 75 and 125 people per day for 22 years. If you use 100 per day that is 803,000 people.
February 1st, 2006 at 1:00 pmBeverly Young, wife of powerful Rep. C.W. Bill Young of Florida (chairman of the House Defense Appropriations subcommittee) was removed from the gallery because she was wearing a T-shirt that read, “Support the Troops _ Defending Our Freedom.â€
http://www.chron.com/ disp/ story.mpl/ ap/ politics/ 3628007.html
Even though her shirt supports the war, she was not allowed back into chambers as it was taken as an act of protest.
They don’t support THE TROOPS they SUPPORT THEIR WAR. If they had any respect for them they would be showing flag draped coffins coming home. They would be doing so much MORE for our wounded coming home.
February 1st, 2006 at 1:00 pmCongressman Young’s wife was kicked out but not arrested. Yet they say they applied the same rules to both. What does this tell us? That the Republican wife was kicked out to provide cover for the blatantly partisan ejection of Sheehan.
It was probably all set up. “Here, wear this t-shirt, we need to have you removed from the chamber.”
You can’t make this shit up.
February 1st, 2006 at 1:03 pmThat still doesn’t change the fact that she didn’t drape a banner over the balcony.
February 1st, 2006 at 1:29 pmBushCo and the K-Street Republicans have no shame. They will tell any lie, hurt anybody, destroy any country including our own, to maintain their power.
February 1st, 2006 at 1:40 pmTone down the rhetoric? Did he ask the right wing pundits to stop calling for the destruction of any and all who dissent? We are just supposed to roll over and take it without making a sound?
Bite me.
What kind of subliminal suggestion did the Republicans use during the last two elections(three if you want to account for the ‘02 mid-terms)that have these sheep still rabidly defending this failed shepherd! It seems that for the last 5 years this country has had a starring role in an ongoing and deeply disturbing episode of the Twilight Zone. I read something on one of the blogs yesterday (I believe it was this one, but I’m not positive) that really anyone with an independant thought in their head (couldn’t?) disagree with. I didn’t watch all of the SOTU address (my tolerance level for b.s. is just about maxxed out after 5 years). But W. must have a button or a switch under that podium that he can use to get all the neo-con robots to stand up and cheer every time he starts laying on the fertilizer (and was it thick last night!) Can you imagine what these ardent supporters of Dubya would be saying (in our so-called “liberal” media too) if the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and all the resulting lies and deceptions and ongoing scandals, criminal investigations and indictments had happened under Bill Clinton, if they would be this gung-ho to follow him like lemmings off a cliff. Kinda makes lying about a blow job in the Oval Office pale in comparison, doesn’t it? But not to these self-righteous jackasses. If any Democratic president had attempted 1/10th of the crap this man has done (and so far gotten away with) the neo-cons would be advocating a public beheading ala the French Revolution. How has this country become so mesmerized by a handful of self-serving, obviously corrupt individuals who had this “plan” for pushing their imperialistic agenda long before they found a willing and duplicitious (and not terribly bright) front man to convince the American people that they were the best choice to lead us? It is beyond my feeble attempts at comprehension how obvious crimes, blatant disregard for civil liberties, outright lies that have lead to so much death and destruction, rampant and ongoing (and ever increasing scandals) and glaringly obvious failures of both foreign and domestic policy (Clear Skies Initiative, Healthy Forests Initiative, No Child Left Behind, Jobs Creation Act, and my personal favorite, The War On Terror) are even subject to the “he said/she said” debate that has gone on in this country. Oh well, I guess since there’s no sex involved then it must be just good government in action, right? And our so-called watchdogs in the the media can continue to be lapdogs instead. The pundits and the politicians can keep spinning out party line talking points and Mr. and Mrs. Average American will just have to get over the fact that the “American Dream” is just that unless your one of Bush “haves and have mores” club!

How one carries themselves when confronted by authority figures oft times determines the actions taken by the authority figure. If Ms. Sheehan was disrespectful, called them names, etc. then her chances of being arrested go up exponentially. The reaction of these two woman would have played a HUGE role in how they were treated. Respect gets you much further than disrespect.
You really think this was a setup? LOL

What kind of drugs are they putting in the K-Y to keep the Filthy Left so enamored with a failed ideology and so willing to swallow any lie as long as it hurts our country? What kind of drugs that would cause a small percentage of Americans to hate their country and Constitution with such rabid venom that they’d gladly sacrifice themselves if it meant an end to American dominance?

I guess the drug is similar to the oxycontin laced kool-aid that the right uses to numb their senses. Being numb allows the right to swallow all of the current adminstrations lies and cheer as failure after failure occurs. The kool-aid drunk sheep are willing to swallow any lie as long as it “sticks it to the Dems”. It doesn’t matter how much this administrations policies are hurting America. Why do u hate America IRI?

Right questions…..wrong party. These are exactly the kind of questions that you should be asking the current administration. After all, Dubya is the one that wants to circumvent the constitution and appoint himself king. I mean, it’s just a damn piece of paper. What type of patriot would gladly give up constitutionally pretected freedoms that many have fought and died for in order to support one man’s vision of America? Answer: No patriot would do that, only yellow bellied traitors. To see an example, hold up a mirror.

Here’s what I said about the banner:
Someone said this morning that Cindy had also brought in a banner and hung it over the balcony. I have not seen further reporting of that. How in the hell does someone sneak a banner in?

I made it clear that I had heard it and that I did not see anything more on it. I was not saying that she had. I was questioning whether it was true or not since one would expect more coverage if it was.
February 1st, 2006 at 2:33 pmther you go with the hate projecting again. Go back and re-read my 130 post.
Ya know, I hadn’t read true americans bullshit till just now. I know he wrote that last night but I figured I’d give him a progressive side to chew on.
Yo, asshole. while you were bonking your pigs (when your sister/mother wouldn’t put out (deliverance lives guy), my family was making this country an independent nation. My forefathers fought in the Revolutionary War (yea, my sister could be a DAR if she wanted) for an independent America. I lost family on both sides of the Civil War. Thank god the southerners were Virginians and not some Tabacco Road southerners like yourself. My grandfather fought in WWI, My father & uncle fought the whole of WWII.
I was lucky. I was too young to be drafted for Vietnam. So I did what was patriotic and demonstrated against it.
I grudgingly accepted the invasion of Afganistan. We had to do it. I knew that.
Bush43 & co lied about the whole kit & caboodle to get us to invade Iraq. There were no WMD, there were no bioweapons labs, there were no nukes being built, there was NO CONNECTION between Iraq & Al Quada. There were NO IRAQI’s in the 19 9/11 hijackers. Saddam is an asshole (bigger than you even), but we had him boxed in well. bushco invaded cause 1) oil 2) some new neocon domino theory of how we would come to dominate the middle east (that’s worked out really well, eh?) 3) he had a chip on his shoulder and he was trying to out do his daddy who did a spectacular job in Desert Storm 4) he has Darth Cheney & Rumsfield pulling his puppet strings.
So go back to your stinking mud hut in the south and stop giving good southerners such a bad name. & HEY, I don’t care what your pappy told you, you ain’t supposed to have carnal relations with critters or family! Damn.

This is ineffective and completely counter-productive. True American’s propaganda is much better and even that stuff is transparent and simplistic crap. You are a real disappointment and had you tried this sort of amatuerish crap in the Soviet Union (your heroes and role models) you would end up alone on the floor in a special cell with your blood oozing out of a single hole drilled in the back of your head by a single shot from a Makarov.
February 1st, 2006 at 3:18 pmTo #69:
You are a Democrat in name only. And probably only because you’ve been too lazy or drunk to go down to the Voters Registration Office to change your party affiliation. You’re a Democrat like Zell Miller is the Archangel Gabriel. I am a veteran (USMC: BCo. 3rd Plt. 1st Battalion 4th Marines, 3rd Mar. Div.) and you are (in all likelihood) just exactly what everyone on this blog thinks you are. Some fat, white, spoiled little College Republican who’s idea of “supporting the troops” requires zero sacrifice from you or any of your other white, rich, fatass buddies. And getting drunk and jerking off to an Ann Coulter poster doesn’t count! I think all you so called “real Americans” who confuse neo-con rhetoric and platitudes with real patriotism need to go back and re-read some of the words of wisdom of “our” founding fathers. One said that it wasn’t just the right of the people to question our leaders and hold them accountable, it was our duty. Another said that anyone who was willing to give up certain liberties for security deserved neither. These are the ideals that I served to defend. These are the principles and the values that made America the great country that it was. At one time in history, the shining example of democracy. So even if you are who you say you are, then your delusions about what this country should be and who should be considered a “real” American is even more disgusting than if you were just some spoiled little Yellow Elephant frat boy with with the same group-think mentality as the rest of your narrow minded, Bible thumping, racist kind. And let’s not forget that the leaders you cling to and defend so fiercely for having the “courage” to stand up and defend you and yours against all those “evil” brown people out there who want to kill you and destroy your way of life (a bigger load of b.s. than I’ve ever heard)had the chance to put their money where their mouths were years ago. Dubya joined the “Champagne Unit” of the Texas Air National Guard and then decided that he could just skip the whole last year of his enlistment (that pesky flight physical might have found that cocaine in his system and how would that look….) And our illustrious Veep (he of the 5 college deferments) had “other priorties, other than military service”. And that good ‘ol bug killer from Sugarland (Tommy “The Hammer” DeLay) who couldn’t find a spot because they’d all been taken up by minorities and poor whites… These are the guys you idolize? Go down the list of all the Republican warhawks who used whatever methods, fair or foul, to convince Americans that if we didn’t invade immediately that our country would be a charred, poisoned crater and you find that with a very few notable exceptions. not one of them ever wore the uniform of their country (in any branch of service) or shed one drop of blood in defense of “freedom and democracy”. And Bush doesn’t count as one of the few, because he was only playing dress-up and playacting as a soldier. And the only blood he might have shed during his time in uniform was probably when he fell off a barstool in the O-Club! Yet these are the leaders you want making life and death decisions on foreign policy? These are the guys that make you feel all warm and secure here at home while the sons, daughters, mothers and fathers of others are still doing all the fighting and dying for them? These morons couldn’t respond to a natural disaster in the Gulf Coast with a little over a weeks advanced warning! God forbid that it had been another “unforseen” terrorist attack, only this time with a dirty bomb or some particularly nasty biological agent. Considering Bush’s response immediately following the 9/11 attacks we might still be looking for him!! And with Dick Cheney’s sudden coronary we’d be left with Dennis Hastert to coordinate our response, relief and recovery efforts. I don’t know about you, but that scenario scares the hell out of me! The fact that we haven’t had another more devastating terrorist attack in this country isn’t because of the leadership of these incompetant, corrupt jackasses. It’s only been through sheer dumb luck. Which these guys seem to have by the truckloads. And it isn’t a matter of if but when. And when that day comes and these self-appointed emperors are still in charge, who will you blame then? You sure won’t be able to put this one on Clinton or “liberals” in general. You might try looking in the mirror first.
February 1st, 2006 at 3:58 pmYou said that with so much more class than I did Rick V.
Thank you.
& thank you for having served.

If you drop back and see this, help a fellow jarhead’s family out
Gus Hasford, USMC, the guy who wrote The Short Timers, the novel that the film Full Metal Jacket was based on, and other great Viet Nam era literature, has a website … but it’s the petition I’d like to ask you to sign to keep his writing in print. In the movie, Private Joker… that was Gus.
Gus wrote this: “The South is a big Indian reservation populated by ex-Confederates who are bred like cattle to die in Yankee wars. In Alabama there is no circus to run off to, so we join the Marines.â€
Semper Fi.
February 1st, 2006 at 8:43 pm#158 (Kindness)
Thank you for being one of the growing majority who isn’t just another fearful, sheeplike zombie. Serving in the Marines was an honor and I also thank you for your acknowledgement. Unfortunately there are too many of my brothers and sisters still on active duty serving in Iraq or Afghanistan that can’t tell anyone how they really feel for fear of reprisal by superiors. I, on the other hand (being an Honorably discharged vet), do not have such constraints. With folks like you and me who refuse to be hypnotized by that shiny watch of fear they keep swinging in front everyones eyes, maybe, just maybe this country still has a chance to survive. Come November we’ll see if our fellow citizens are finally waking up from their trances. I pray to God they do, or this grand experiment called the American Republic will join Athens and Rome in the dustbin of history.
February 1st, 2006 at 10:15 pm#159
I was more than honored to sign the petition and will be watching to see how this comes out. It is a crime that literary works that glorify wars of the past or that portray war as a heroic endeavor are still in print and available in any public library, and yet the book you cite (and I must be honest, I’ve not read it but I did see the movie “Full Metal Jacket”) that show just how insane war really is, isn’t available to anybody. Some wars are fought out of necessity (The Revolutionary War, the Civil War and WWII). Others are fought purely by choice and for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with “spreading democracy and freedom” or “national security” but are fought to enrich the profiteers of the military/industrial complex that Dwight D. Eisenhower warned us about in his farewell speech in 1960. And what political party are the war profiteers umbilically linked to? Can I get a “Halliburton” from the congregation? Semper Fi!
February 1st, 2006 at 10:56 pmOne of the really terrible things about Vietnam was that those guys (and gals) who served came back, not only with the memories of what they had been through, but that they were stigmatized by having done it by many in the anti-war movement. That was horrifically wrong of the anti-war movement. I had guys in my neighborhood come back, & they were different. Some were OK with what they had gone through, some you could tell weren’t. Some of they guys I knew, came home in pine boxes.
Thank goodness we aren’t making that error again.
February 2nd, 2006 at 10:18 amPlease dont waste your time responding to true american. He is not real but he is a yellow elephant. “sign up or shut up.”
February 2nd, 2006 at 1:12 pm#69 Your arguements make no sense, so apparently your the only person to fight in a war huh? And fuck all the others in service(Including family members of mine!) that belive they fight for america’s rights and principals which include the right to dissent aginist the people in goverment who just do whatever they want. Oh, and by the way the average american has had to stand up and fight before there was even a UNITED STATES MILITARY.(ever heard of the American Revolution?)The average american has in the past and will again fight if needed but the whole point is to learn from things weve done in the past so history dosen’t repeat itself. (kinda like Iraq& Vietnam huh?) One of my good friends
February 3rd, 2006 at 11:54 pmjust left for Iraq about 5 days ago and GOD BLESS HIM AND ALL THE OTHER TROOPS that are over there fighting not even a war, but the revolt that we started. And because I know him so well, i’ll include him when we say to go jerk yourself off in the abandoned car that im sure is in your front yard you hillbilly.
