SOTU: House Conservatives Are Holding Up Bipartisan Compromise On Patriot Act

Bush said: “These men and women are dedicating their lives to protecting us all, and they deserve our support and our thanks. They also deserve the same tools they already use to fight drug trafficking and organized crime – so I ask you to reauthorize the Patriot Act.”

FACT — HOUSE CONSERVATIVES HOLDING UP PATRIOT ACT RENEWAL: Sixteen provisions of the Patriot Act were set to expire at the end of 2005. Last summer, the Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan compromise bill to reauthorize the expiring provisions of the Patriot Act and include amendments to guard against government overreach. The bill was rejected by House conservatives and altered significantly in conference. [American Progress, 11/17/05]

Warrantless spying is excused and defended – he has broken the law and if he remains belligerent and defiant, he thinks he can bluster his way.

Republicans realize the only way they can hold on to power is to break the law, and they do it with such ease and regularity that they obviously feel no shame. Illegal spying, whether on the phone, internet, or mail, is nothing to them. The Bill of Rights is something to be ignored and called outdated. Every Republican up for reelection this year needs to be thrown out of office (and put in jail whenever it applies).

  4. Jay Randal says:

Bush beats a dead horse over and over > he needs to admit that he is a FAILURE as president and RESIGN!

I must have missed something…I didn’t know that the style of law enforcement tactics allowed under the Patriot Act were routinely used in fighting the Drug War and organized crime.

We’re talking about a situation now where we all can be considered criminals and terrorists with absolutely no probable cause. Do we think we will not be targeted for writing a letter to the editor or attending a anti-war rally? Dude, I want my country back!

  6. prozac fluoxetine says:

    fluoxetine capsules…

fluoxetine hydrochloride. fluoxetine side effects. fluoxetine hydrochloride. fluoxetine. …
