As George W. Bush praised the sacrifice of our troops in a war with no moral cause (a war created in the minds of economic terrorists) Cindy Sheehan was being processed by law enforcement for "unlawful conduct" after she cleared Capitol security prior to attendance at GW's 2006 State of The Union address.

As George W. Bush praised the future of technology and research as the hope for America's future generations, children were sleeping in hotel rooms and trailers after having been displaced by the worst natural disaster in our country's history. Many more will awake this morning unable to break the cycle of disdain and moral righteousness put in motion by conservative sects of our society. No child left behind indeed. It is all relative - how disadvantaged do you have to be to be at the back of the pack that isn't getting left behind.

As George W. Bush spoke of all his desire to better these United States of America my patriotic instincts thought only of impeachment; if this is getting better, I want no part of it. And - perhaps even more disturbing - is the inept elected leadership that has failed to protect "OUR" interests in light of one administration's seemingly self destructive course.

Today is another day of mourning for families of our lost troops. It is another day of sadness and hunger for families unable to buy groceries. It is another day of helplessness felt by many for many reasons. Our leaders - on both sides of the aisle - have failed us miserably, criminally and morally.

My stomach sickens at the failure of "OUR" government to provide its citizenry with the simplest of sustenance and security while we provide billions of tax dollars to secure a nation engaged in an ethnic and religious civil war.

Tomorrow will be the same. It is the fault of every US citizen. It is the fault of inept and misguided leaders. But, despite the desperate times that require desperate reaction I do not fear that it has all gone beyond fixing.

It is our duty to demand accountability from our leaders and to take responsibility for the votes we do (and do not) cast. Take pride in your life, the lives sacrificed on our behalf, and the power you wield with your mind.

Engage your neighbors, your friends, your foes, your family - not with anger - but rather with an open heart, an open mind and most importantly an open dialogue that will lead us to better times and a history to be proud of.

SOTU: Stand and cheer for someone you despise every 30 seconds. To all career democrats, you hereby have your two week notice, get a real job, and by the way, has anyone seen or heard from Fitzgerald in the last couple weeks?

Comment by ROOTHOGG — February 1, 2006 @ 10:42 am

Actually Root, the visual of the democratic response varied according to which channel you watched. Some mainly showed Dubya with minimal cutaways to the Repub side of the audience. Some showed no audience reaction at all. It took some channel surfing, but ABC gave the best POV for me. I was able to see that the Dems weren't always standing and clapping along with the Repubs. There were several instances where the Repub side was standing and clapping while the Dem side was stoic. My favorite moment was when the Dems surprised Dubya by jumping up and clapping when he stated that congress didn't pass his social security reform measures. The look on his face was priceless.

Neither is "stay the course". In your own words C.P., what is this administrations exit "strategery" for Iraq? I'll wait patiently for an answer.

Zookeeper's one of us, he's just at the end of his rope like a lot of us.

The funniest thing I heard about the speech (couldn't bear to listen) is that Bush said we have an addiction to foreign oil! Unbelievable. He also prattled on about peace & democracy, which he is bent on destroying.

Given this administration's unique ability to discern previously non-existant meaning in various formats, AUOF, The Constitution, FISA, etc... we cannot possibly expect them to be held to standards that they themselves are claiming to have. C'mon now..... you know how weak they are.

By trying to sell optimisim, calling for bi-partisan cooperation he is only seeking to share the blame when the whip comes down. The thing that got me was the ease of speech he displayed until I realized he was wearing an earpiece. It gave me a headache and my husband fell asleep.

So let's See...Addicted to Foreign Oil. Sure George.

And NOW the USA is going to switch to ethanol from Twigs and Grass from the Heartland. Hmmm.

That's Odd though... Seeing as how the USA just invaded
and occupied the richest OIL reserves on earth...

... using GI's from that very same heartland.... Hmmm

One Citizen MUST wonder... China? India? Who? Where? When?

What? Is going to happen to all of that Not-So-Foreign-Oil... now that Iraq was colonized like the 51st state?

... Protected with Our Very Own National Guard and Reserves.

This is odd, odd indeed. One of the Latest Republican Meta-Cons... getting a roll-out in "The State of the Union Address."

Send Your Boys and Girls to Die for Mid East Oil... for Cheney and Exxon and Enron...Yet don't expect any of it at
home...

Instead, pay the price of New Technology innovations... and Let Cheney and Exxon and Enron own the World's Oil... and FUEL their ongoing Industrial Revolution of China and India.

Cleary, The State of the Union is One UNDER SIEGE... One of Immense CONs against the Citizenry.

God Bless our Over-Deployed and Under-Supplied Troops. Bring the Home NOW. The Nation NEEDS its National Guard.
