RE: 75

Coffee is bad for you. Plus the subjugation of the Asian peoples vis-a-vis flavored coffees and the destruction of the South American environment should give you cause for concern. As a good liberal I bet you grow your own.

RE: 76

Oh, hell no! New Yorker Mag is now the authoritative source of political power? Well, an old friend that was part of a right-wing church did do many of their cartoons until he became famous at Marvel. Nevertheless, as I posted, "until the money started flowing." He's an affable guy, don't get me wrong. Never confuse the back office movers of politics with the front office faces. It's the difference between Ralph Reed and his old boss Pat Robertson. Who really controlled things?

RE: 79 Could this be his reasons?

RE: 80 The silliness of the issue is that every word, label, description, etc. was created by ancient people for ancient reasons. When I filled out my "race" description in elementary school I had three choices - Caucasoid, Mongloid, and Negroid. Families named Miller most likely had a Mill worker at the head of it originally. So Arab might just be a description of a location (Arabia) rather than a racial distinction. In fact Arab is more likely a nationality (like American). So while Abraham was an Urian this does not mean it is his race. Silliness.

RE 81: You can't have it both ways. If Norquist, Abramoff, and Reed were greedy self-centered hucksters then Norquist isn't partisan so much as an opportunist. If he's honestly partisan, then his actions, while ethically debatable, were noble. You choose. Either one still lets you have your rabid hatred of the mortal man George Bush, so you're safe.

RE 82: Not fat, rich nor ever been addicted to painkillers. In fact I'm cute and pass every drug test (given enough time). Thanks anyway.

RE 83: Ari Fleischer and American Heritage Dictionary huh? Didn't think I would have to point out the difference between a mouthpiece and an unaffiliated siren. Remember that label distinction I made about race earlier? Goes to the dictionary discussion too. Unless you want me to point out that the liberal definition could be used to justify Hitler and Stalin. Oh, it did.

RE 84: Yeah. Presidency, Congress, and Supreme Court. Wheels on the bus go round and round. Round and round.

RE: 85 Would have been "Power to the mythical little guys." As is, the phrase mainly just means more than one person. Gotta check with the American Heritage Dictionary to see if that would include pschizo's.

Round and round. Round and round.

#71 : Comment by Jeff Barea

Conservatives have always enjoyed the free-wheeling debate and proudly allow public and private dissension.

Good thing it wasn't Ari Fleischer who said:

"This is not the time to say something like that. it never is."

or else this might not be true...oh wait.

It’s one of our strengths that we don’t require lockstep adherence to some theme even when that theme is a non-winner.

Yeah, it's not as if "lockstep adherence to some theme even when that theme is a non-winner" is actually the literal definition of conservatism or anything...oh wait:

liberal: Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others;

3: tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition

[antonym: conservative]

Yeah, it’s not as if “lockstep adherence to some theme even when that theme is a non-winner” is actually the literal definition of conservatism or anything…oh wait:

liberal: Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
Conservatives have always enjoyed the free-wheeling debate and proudly allow public and private dissension.

Sorry #71, I have ADD too. Jews claim their descent from Abraham and Abraham was originally from Ur (modern day Iraq)making Jesus an arab. Abraham changed his religion not his race when he left the gods of his father Terah and left Ur to settle in Cannanite territory. Judaism is a religion not a race.

Norquist is also a principal liaison betweeb Bush and domestic Muslim groups. If I’m not mistaken, he’s married to a Muslim, and does substantial fundraising with these groups.
No doubt, many of his associates are concerned that they may be the subject of surveillance.
Comment by RunningDogLackey — February 1, 2006 @ 4:11 pm
This is news to me and reveals a very odd point. Norquist, Abramoff and Reed, Young Republicans, roommates. Reed is born again and goes on to lead the incursion of Christian Fundimentalists into politics, Abramoff is Orthodox Jewish and uses his kosher restuarants and his Ultra-conservative Jewish contacts to work his schtick and now you say Norquist is Muslim/Arab friendly. What a diverse and tolerant household that must have been! Do you think any of them actually believs the tenets of the faiths they profess?
It might not just be Norquist's clients that have been monitored, they may be trying to get a leash on him, too. Since any of the "legitamate" uses of domestic phone surveillence would have been approved, even retroactively, those boys were scouting territory where they don' belong, come on!

wouldn’t a better question be that with all the domestic spying, and the taping of possibly thousands of private citizen’s phone lines, just how many terrorists has the government caught and successfully prosecuted with that information?
I mean, if I was a liberal concerned with individual rights I’d ask that.
Comment by Joe Sixpack — February 1, 2006 @ 4:14 pm
This HAS been asked two or three weeks ago, How many arrests have resulted from thousands of wiretaps and countless hours of datamining? Not one. Does that mean that they are "dealing with" terrorist plots "extralegaly?" as in no booking, no trial, snuff 'em first try 'em later? Or does it mean that they were engaged in something more important than the whereabouts of their outside contractor and his hires, that is political and business rivals.
