  7. Innocent Lite says:

Interesting that anti-American scum like Cindy Sheehan and Belafonte hate Bush, but sing Chavez’ praise. They would be put in jail if they criticized Chavez in Venezula.

But I am thankful the left has people like this. That way we keep liberals like Obama and Hillary squirming and out of the White House. Thank you for your hatred. The GOP could never be the majority without you.

  8. buddhistMonkey says:

Innocent Lite, foaming at the mouth: “…anti-American scum like Cindy Sheehan and Belafonte…”

    Don’t be such a hater.

  9. David S says:

Nova: Check the links… this is all, it will make sense if you read about Russert’s previous requests for “reactions” to Belafonte.

Innocent Lite: I didn’t detect nearly the hatred in the quip, and its being quoted, than you show. Liten up, Lite, not every issue is so deadly as you imagine. And, oh, BTW, wait for new results… the Right is no longer the majority.

    No they wouldn’t. Stop lying.

#7 The % of ballots for Chavez in their DEMOCRATIC ellections was bigger than the 2000 and 2004 Bush ones… And in fact they have impeachment in their Constitution…

  14. Evil Spaniard says:

#13 And Chavez hasn’t been impeached as of today…

  16. darrelplant says:

You meant to say “anti-American scum who served in the Navy during WWII” and “anti-American scum whose son died in service to his country”, didn’t you, IL? You don’t want to leave off those important points. I mean, isn’t attacking people who’ve actually given something to their country as anti-American the real goal with folks like yourself?

  17. mark says:

“They would be put in jail if they criticized Chavez in Venezula.”

Interesting hypothetical. How ’bout some reality? Cindy Sheehan was arrested in this country for having the temerity to wear a shirt with words. Where does she think she is, with all this trying to seek “redress of grievances”?

If only the left would get on board with the right’s pre-1776 mentality, the world we be a better place.

  18. Spudge_Boy says:

The GOP could never be the majority without you.

    38% is not a majority.

  19. j swift says:

Innocent Lite – he subconsciously yearns to live in a country where badmouthing an elected official (IL you do realize that Bush is a mortal don’t you?) justifies imprisonment.

As long as that official is in the party he favors of course.

Wow IL, a three-fer, in one comment, blind loyalty, favors totalitarian tactics and hypocrisy.

  20. reginanotjack says:

I wish that Obama would get snappier with his rhetoric in the Oh no he di’unt! way. But I have to hand it to him here. I’m so sick of my landsmen, the Russerts and Hardballers (ex-Dem Hill staffers both, aren’t they?) and their sick racist trope, demanding reactions or disavowals of people of color for soundbytes from other people of color. In their twisted little heads they think non-whites are all stamped-out clones to be rounded up at the slightest example of the uppittiness of one.

  21. Mushuweasel says:

Innocent Lite: You do know that Cindy Sheehan was arrested for wearing a T-shirt, right? See, here you don’t even have to criticize. You just have to have the right bumper sticker…

  22. Evil Spaniard says:

  25. Innocent Lite says:

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/Commentary/com-2_2_06_DS.html

Free speech? Sheehan should take a look at how her buddy Chavez treats dissidents. As Jackson Diehl reported in The Washington Post last year, the Chavez-controlled legislature passed new media laws that included this choice provision: “Anyone who offends with his words or in writing or in any other way disrespects the president of the republic or whomever is fulfilling his duties will be punished with prison of six to 30 months if the offense is serious, and half of that if it is light.”

Dissidents who stand up to Chavez are courageous. They risk time in a Venezuelan prison. Californians who bash Bush on the war risk being hailed as local heroes and appearing on cable news.

  26. Evil Spaniard says:

#25 Excuse me but… generous in what sense? Social Security? I fear not. Sweden is far more generous. Third world help? If we compare UE and USA, I fear not…

And besides it, USA aid comes frequently attached to “do it or else…” rules, as the help on AIDS on Africa. Bush reworded the help to finance abstinence-only programs… Peace Corps MUST wage a PR campaing of USA interests… I fear generosity without fairnes isn’t generosity at all…

Generosity in natural disasters? Katrina comes in mind…

    Correct me if I’m wrong…

  27. Evil Spaniard says:

#28 Remember the RNC in New York and the free speech pens? Some people was arrested without charges for days, only for not being republican…

  28. Phoenix Woman says:

    Oh, ILite:

So cutting Halliburton’s taxes whilst providing them a nice bloody war to profit from is now “patriotic”?

What color is the sky in your world, and how much does Ken Mehlman pay you?

  29. Innocent Lite says:

#30 – was that before or after they were shipped to the kilns to be burned?

You people listen to how stupid you sound. You should all be deported to a country where your liberties really are in jeopardy and see how you like it. You are NOT dealing in reality. But don’t stop – you’re paranoia has worked wonders at the polls.

  30. DUDACKATTACK!!! says:

“As Jackson Diehl reported in The Washington Post last year, the Chavez-controlled legislature passed new media laws….”

    Blah, Blah, Blah..

Truthiness!!! Diel is cherrypicking a law that was set up so that privately controlled Venezuelen netowrks do not openly advocate overthowing Chavez
-which they did during the first coup attempt.

Not unlike US Code, Title 18, Section 871, “Threats against the President and presidential successors,” prohibits any offense or threat made against the President of the United States.

If ignorance caused cancer, the Right would be a Necropolis.

  31. Kalkin says:

    IL:

“Dissidents who stand up to Chavez are courageous. They risk time in a Venezuelan prison.”

    Name one in prison.

While the anti-media laws are bad, remember that when there was a temporarily successful military coup against Chavez three years ago, the major television networks cut all news broadcasts and showed soap reruns so that the massive popular support for Chavez couldn’t be mobilized. Most of these people were not punished at all.

Remember the outcry about alleged Chinese funding for Clinton? American funding for Chavez’ opponents is massively larger – even the open component, from the NED. And who knows what the CIA’s doing secretly; publicly released documents have shown that at the minimum, it knew about the planned coup against Chavez weeks beforehand and didn’t tell him. So much for our commitment to democracy. http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/11/29/1448220

For comparison purposes, I personally know several people who have been beaten and/or arrested by police for peaceful antiwar protests in the United States.

  36. Rick Banales says:

Do you all usually give this much time to loser trolls that you know are obviously lying? This Innocent Lite guy posts something stoopid, and 20 people swoop down to give him the attention he certainly doesn’t deserve.

OR, you let him post his lying rant, he’ll probably re-post it because he can’t think beyond the Repub talking points he hears, and then he’ll leave because you won’t play his game.

Just try that next time, and maybe you won’t waste as much cyberspace on clowns who couldn’t care less about the truth.

  37. Brian says:

    # 36: look at “meet the press” from Sunday 1/29. Timmy asked Barak what he thought of Harry belafonte’s remarks about Chavez. The hub bub is about Russert’s stupidity in thinking Obama has to answer for Harry because they are both black. OVERT MSM racism! Russert needs to retire to his Nantucket mansion and start a toothbrush collection.

  38. dano347 says:

“Californians who bash Bush on the war risk being hailed as local heroes and appearing on cable news.”

    Comment by Innocent Lite — February 2, 2006 @ 2:54 pm

That’s for me! Who do I call to get my fifteen minutes’ worth?

Maybe I’ll even get a grudge-hump from some self-hating local republican puta! Woo – Hoo!

  39. TK says:

Since a jackass has hijacked the comments, let me add:

The Washington Post eagerly enlisted in printing all manner of Reagan Administration garbage about Nicaragua in the 80s, so it’s no surprise they are enlisting in another covert war against a country that refuses to obey Washington’s dictates. Go to Human Rights Watch’s page on Venezuela (http://www.hrw.org/doc?t=americas&c=venezu) and play this game: switch “US” for “Venezuela” in the titles (Venezuela: President’s Allies Pack Supreme Court) and see if they sound any different.

I’ll worry about the creeping authoritarianism in my own country first, thanks.

  40. katy says:

brian, thanks, but i want to know what obama said when “asked at a press conference yesterday” which would have bee 2/1 – the russsert thing is OLD news.

    please judd – another link?

  41. katy says:

    what ’s the “hotline” link???
i get a box that wants me to register at “national journal”

  42. Admin says:

Hotline is a publication produced by the National Journal.

  43. The Liberal Avenger says:

IL – Such a Good German.

  44. katy says:

gee thanks, “admin”…that answers ONE of my questions…
(actually i did figure that one out)

now, about that “press conference yesterday”…

  45. snookered says:

Looks like the wanker IL has highjacked this place…..
How sad. Not just because I miss out, but because that was his intention.

  46. . says:

    Hey Innocent,

Save your breath with these losers. They do not listen to reason or anyone with an intelligent opinion. I have given up my effort to try and convince them of the error of their ways. The best thing to do is to let them keep thinking they are winning, let them conduct one rigged opinion poll after another and them watch them cry again on election night. Of course then, we have to hear about all of the conspiracy theories around the stolen elections etc.

  47. Pope Ratzo says:

My favorite wingnut retort, which Innocent Lite uses here, is “Keep it up, you’re just helping us”.

Friends, you best believe we’re going to keep it up. We’re going to keep it up through taking back Congress in ‘06, the White House in ‘08 and we’re going to keep it up your ass.

One thing about the progressives I know is that you don’t have to tell them not to stop. These people will never stop fighting for their beliefs. And we will never stop fighting and dying for our freedom, even if it turns out that it’s other Americans we have to fight.

I’m getting the distinct impression that the extremist partisans and religious fanatics on the Right will be crying “Uncle” before long, when they find out that their decade of majority, of ownership of the US Government, will have netted them absolutely nothing. They’ll wake up and figure out that they put Republicans in power just so they could end up making $7.50 an hour working at WalMart and not have health insurance. Good for you. And here’s a news flash: Ten years from now, abortion will STILL be legal. How’s that feel stuck up your asses?

  48. Joe Buck says:

Not only are people not put in jail for criticizing Chavez in Venezuela, but most of the TV stations are owned by his opponents, and they criticize Chavez all day, every day.

  49. Mr Ripley says:

Katy: it’s the odd order of the clauses that’s getting to you. Asked at a press conference yesterday, “I was wondering if you could react to…,” Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) interrupted with, “What, did Harry Belafonte say something?” Clearer? It took me a couple minutes to figure it out.

  50. Timetheos says:

  51. Singularity says:

It’s remarkable how fast the trolls diappear when exposed to sunlight. Innocent Lite seems to have disappeared now that someone has pointed out a U.S. law equivalent to the one he cited. Context is a horrible thing when your evidence requires such uncritical scrutiny. I’m guessing IL didn’t even bother to read the source column by Jackson Diehl, in which it becomes pretty clear that the laws in question are not about dissidents, despite Diehl’s attempts to obfuscate that fact. Maybe you should try going to original material yourself next time, rather than relying on some right-wing filter to do your thinking for you, IL.

  53. jello says:

for those of us who cannot access hotline:

what was russert’s response to obama’s quip?

  54. katy says:

well, thank you mr. ripley! i did think that was the way it went down, just wanted the actual link…even googled that quote – not there yet…

anyway…this to jello: russert had NO response to obama’s quip – the “russert legacy” link is james wolcott explaining this: “russert channels hannity” at crooks and liars: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/01/22.html#a6816
    watch the video

what’s notable is obama’s cool composed response to russert’s asininity.

  55. dantinel says:

why hasn’t anyone in media–msn or other pointed out the inherent rccism in russert’s question?? tweety? keith?? bueller??anyone??

  56. Green says:

Not that IL is still here, but s/he may want to check out the provisions in the so-called Patriot Act that allow for a fascist police state here.

  58. Max-1 says:

    I wrote a little ditty
I call it, “AMERICA NEEDS ANOTHER ROSA PARKS”

    AMERICA WAKE UP

The soldiers of the civil liberty movement are dying.
    Such is life.
    But where are their replacements?

    AMERICA WAKE UP

The first African American woman to ever Lay in State in American history.
Do not let her causes be buried with her in her grave.
Let them live in our Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States of America.

    AMERICA WAKE UP

Rosa Parks’ fight for freedom needs to be more alive today than ever.
It was much more than a fight to find a place on the bus.
It was to affirm not only her place in society, but of all Americans’ place in society.

    AMERICA WAKE UP

Why let her fight for equality, freedom and liberty be for not?
Your president is burying our Bill of Rights next to the graves of those that fought for “the US”, We The People.
And he is all but throwing the Constitutionally granted rights of the Congress, Judiciary, and We The People into that grave.

    AMERICA WAKE UP

  59. Marie says:

    #40,Brian,
And Russert’s inane and racist query was not lost on Obama. What a stupid, thoughtless, and pointless question.
Russert is getting worse by the year.

“The best thing to do is to let them keep thinking they are winning, let them conduct one rigged opinion poll after another and them watch them cry again on election night. Of course then, we have to hear about all of the conspiracy theories around the stolen elections etc.”

LOOK! IT’S RUSH LIMBAUGH THE LIAR!

  61. Matt O. says:

Haha, nice! Senator Barack Obama rocks. I may be the only person who has his 2004 DNC Keynote speech on their iPod (it’s true, I do).

  62. methodishca says:

Hey Innocent Lite…do you think such anti-American scum would be allowed to criticize Bush on the “Free” Republic site? The liberals tolerate you here…would the Freepers do the same for Cindy Sheehan?

Interesting that anti-American scum like Cindy Sheehan and Belafonte hate Bush, but sing Chavez’ praise. They would be put in jail if they criticized Chavez in Venezula.

  63. RightPunch says:

“Interesting that anti-American scum like Cindy Sheehan and Belafonte hate Bush, but sing Chavez’ praise. They would be put in jail if they criticized Chavez in Venezula. Innocent Lite”

Freedom of speech is a right in Venezuela pumpkin. Partisan brains make people unable to live in reality or even sometimes recognize or tell the truth. Republicans hate Venezuela, so you guys lie about your enemies – just as you lie about those in this country you disagree with. It’s a compulsion of the fearful, the hateful, the desperate and the partisan. But I forgive you. Clearly you believe you’re doing the right thing, even if you’re willing disregard all premise of morality or decency in order to do so. Poor pumpkin, so misguided, so hateful.

“But I am thankful the left has people like this. That way we keep liberals like Obama and Hillary squirming and out of the White House. Thank you for your hatred. The GOP could never be the majority without you.
    Comment by Innocent Lite — February 2, 2006 @ 2:15 pm”

Oh pumpkin, you don’t make liberals squirm, you make them squeamish. They can’t understand why you guys would lie, steal, bribe, and do so much voter fraud. You kind of nauseate most decent moral people who aren’t stuck in partisan brain. There are some very decent republicans, but partisans like you when you act like this give them a bad name pumpkin. Both parties have very decent people, but your kind of vile, reckless, hysterical and irrational stance doesn’t leave a very positive image of republicans. Coupled with the Racism and Bigotry of your fellow trolls, only a truly partisan would actually believe you’re even human beings, let alone americans, when you act like this.

I forgive you pumpkin, and if your sanity ever returns, I hope you can give yourself for being so hateful and ignorant in the name of politics.

  64. Wess says:

I have a feeling our visiting wingnut, Innocent Lite, has been reading this rubbish from the latest release of the Republican Handbook re; the amending chapter on “genuinely elected officials of nations who make the Smirking Chimp look bad and show his policy’s to be that of an idiot”

As with South Vietnam in the 60’s, the leaders of the Right need to -
    a) provide an enemy for the US to hate.
b)the same as “a” but “to Fear” so as to divide and conquer the constitution.
c)because their collective paranoia will make them think the Domino effect will happen so they have to crush any dissension now… Just in case.

Regardless of what you may have read or being told by other wingnuts Mr. Lite, The Venezuelan President, Chavez, by all reports is doing a great job in his country and the people seem to be very grateful of finally having a leader who really does care about the citizens.

Bush and his cronies don’t care about you or me, he cares about collecting all the wealth and power and placing it in the hands of a few where it will stay.
How can you not see what is in front of you?…Just because a Used Car Dealer tells you “it’s a great car” do you just believe him?

  65. Max-1 says:

I was reminded by what some one said once.

    I’ll share.

The government will make use of these powers only insofar as they are essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures…The number of cases in which an internal necessity exists for having recourse to such a law is in itself a limited one.”
    - Adolf Hitler, promise to the Reichstag (Parliament) on the occasion of the “Enabling Act,” the imposition of “temporary” dictatorship following the “Reichstag Fire.

    Too familiar, No???

  66. eric says:

Gosh, you know, if only there were no Democrats. Republicans would be able to take care of those worth caring for just the way they know how to do best. Some day, America will have the one-party system it deserves (God willing, of course).

  67. tHeGaMeOfLiFe says:

Obama did answered right. No need to make a big deal out of something so small. Russert should be asking him about bigger things. This is America and I’m sure Obama doesn’t want to be another Juan Williams.

–Would Russert ask Obama about Limbaugh’s drug problem?

–Who said Hillary and Obama isn’t in the white house?

***Another thing if Bush is so sure of his war. Ms. Sheehan’s shirt would have been a stepping stone…a rallying point to a great speech about why we are fighting Iraq. He can’t defend his war to America or to the world because it’s all a farce. He can’t convince us why over 2k America lives were lost for our freedoms, our rights, our good reputation, our democracy, our protection, our security…let alone to the world.

  68. eric says:

for sure. if soldiers die in war in order to preserve our freedoms (as the story goes), then perhaps we can just start saying that we’re 2500 soldiers freer than we were 5 years ago. one “soldier” can be the unit of measurement for freedom.

  69. Clif says:

Eric go join the military, volunteer for Iraq, tell that to your fellow soldiers and don’t worry the military has a very good medical system in place, because by the time you stop speaking you’ll be needing it

  70. KEVIN SCHMIDT, STERLING VA says:

Since Chrissy HardlyBalls thinks black senators know why black people say certain things, it only stands to reason, white senators know why white people say cedrtain things too.

Chrissy should ask Sen. Frist why Ann Coulter accuses Democrats of treason without offering any proof. Perhaps Frist can also answer a few questions about other white, specifically DeLay, Rove, Cheney, Bush, etc.

  71. KEVIN SCHMIDT, STERLING VA says:

By the way, why is anyone still watching MSNBC? They have proven themselves repeatedly to be a stealthier version of FAUX Gnus.

Turn off your fascist controlled propaganda delivery system, the TV and turn on the free thinking internet!

  72. big papa says:

Interesting that anti-American scum like Cindy Sheehan and Belafonte hate Bush, but sing Chavez’ praise. They would be put in jail if they criticized Chavez in Venezula.

    Comment by Innocent Lite #7

    Inbred Liteweight,

They’re all (Cindy, Harry and Chavez) better human beings than your gods Bushiva and L’il Dick and your ignorant inbred a*s will ever hope to be…

That majority thing? Believe me it’s temporary…one way or the other…

As for you? I still see “darkness” in your future…

  73. jjcomet says:

#72 – Well, Eric, if you love this war and our commander so much, why don’t YOU join the military and volunteer for Iraq. I’ll tell you why – becuase like most of the Bush-loving chickenhawks, you’re too busy cowering under your bed at the prospect of another terrorist attack to put your candy ass in the line of fire and defend your beliefs. I am so sick of people who pimp this war but have never given the first thought to actually serving in it. When you have your marching orders for Iraq maybe I’ll listen to what you have to say. Until then, just STFU you pitiful, craven hypocrite.

  74. jjcomet says:

Sorry – I meant Clif, not Eric. BTW clif, what happened to your second “F?” I’m thinking perhaps you took someone’s advice and “F’ed off”

  75. Dave says:

“Californians who bash Bush on the war risk being hailed as local heroes and appearing on cable news.”

    Comment by Innocent Lite — February 2, 2006 @ 2:54 pm

We must get different cable than you. I’ll bet you any amount of $ that if we watched all the cable news for a week, any week, you pick, there would be more Bush lovers than Bush haters on as both guests and hosts.
Despite the fact that only 38% of the country is pro Bush.
Now, in the rest of the world, where media coverage reflects the views of the people more accurately, I’ll bet the coverage is 99% against Bush.

  76. big papa says:

Not only are people not put in jail for criticizing Chavez in Venezuela, but most of the TV stations are owned by his opponents, and they criticize Chavez all day, every day.

    Comment by Joe Buck #51

    Joe Buck,

    Chavez is “da man”…

…he’s kicked El gringo’s exploitative a*s out of his country…

…is taking care of the poor and indigenous people’s (populations long disenfranchised by the “white” Spanish power structure)…

…uniting the indigenous peoples on his continent…

…and knows Bush by his birth name “Mr Danger”…

Yep, Chavez is my kinda president!

  77. Tahoma Activist says:

I fully agree with Big Papa. Chavez is the man. If any of yall buy gas for your vehicles and belong to a union, you should be filling up at CITGO. CITGO is a wholly-ownded subsidiary of Venezuela’s national oil company. Every dollar you give to CITGO is a dollar you don’t give to the multinational oil cartels, and Chavez is using that money to restore land to Indians, build low-income housing for the poor, and many other initiatives. Any right-winger who comes to ThinkProgress.org to flame should pull their head out of you know what and actually learn something about Chavez. He is the real thing, and we ought to be more like him.

Bush is a terrorist, and Harry Belafonte is my hero.
