Mark your calendars.

“A federal judge on Friday set former White House aide I. Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby’s trial date for January 2007, two months after the midterm congressional elections.”

As it should be. We don’t need partisan witch hunts like this interfering with a national election. That’s not what it’s supposed to be about.

You’ll see, Scooter Libby did no wrong. He’s just protecting America’s best interest, just like those selfless God-fearing leaders Bush and Cheney.

  2. dumbstruck says:

……and as early as possible in regards to the 2008 elections.
We’re not dealing with dumb crooks here, you know.
If we (clear thinking Americans) don’t get our act together soon and do something about the rape of our country it’s really not going to matter if Scooter Libby goes to trial or not.

  3. Paul says:

Selfless? ya gotta be kiding me … space constraints don’t allow anymore comment.

They should fear God based on their agenda and what they’re doing. Normal mortals have a conscience, and speak the truth.

  4. For Truth says:

What happened to a speedy trial?

  5. WaltTheMan says:

Good tactic, sweep all of it under the carpet until you get a new one. Maybe that way, the Dems will only get 420 seats in the next House.
Dick and W may fear God, but they should be more concerned about Satan. Once they’re lying beneath the daisies, they’ll spend an eternity with him.

  6. afterthought says:

    I’m thinking #1 was sarcasm.
Well, at least I hope it was, otherwise
someone is living in La-La land.

  7. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    #4 For Truth

That was exactly my thought when I read that date. Didn’t Libby ask for a speedy trial, or did his side waive that right? (The prosecution is not the side that can insist on a speedy trial; only the defendant has that right.)

  8. Coreesa says:

Twilight Zone?! Did (or can) the Libby team jump the gun on Fitzgerald? Huh? What happened here? Need more information. I did not hear that Fitzgerald released his already selected Grand Jury! Where is this federal judge located?

  9. James says:

I am sure Libby will be seeking more time to resurrect some E-mails. Calling on the Holy powers of Bush and company to work some miracles. Ha, not going to save Libby’s ass, but maybe enough to save control of congress. Her is praying to a higher power that doesn’t happen.

  10. kindness says:

Who has the goods on this judge? Is he a registered Republican? Who nominated him to the bench?

  11. Ron says:

Sanity? What sanity? We don’t need no stinking sanity.

Just a so-called ‘Bush Administration’ driving everything into the ground, losing a war, and not giving two shits what happens.

When is the Iranian Army going to invade Iraq and begin to battle the American Army? After that happens, the Syrian Army would follow close behind. The over-stressed Coalition forces would be sitting ducks. It doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to figure out that those two armies are waiting for the right moment to attack. At this time, they are biding their time while the Coalition forces are being continually weakened and worn down from the daily attacks. It’s the plan, Stan.

If I were the Bush Administration, I’d be looking to make that truce with OBL asap. OBL wouldn’t be offering a truce if he weren’t planning a major attack on US soil.

If George Bush really had American interests at heart and was really interested in protecting Americans, he would enter negotiations for a truce right now.

Scooter Libby’s trial is all fluff and froth. I’d be paying attention to this unforgiving, God-forbidden war.

It is much more serious than one thinks.

    http://www.dcd.uscourts.gov/walton-bio.html

Judge Reggie B. Walton assumed his position as a United States District Judge for the District of Columbia on October 29, 2001, after being nominated to the position by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate. Judge Walton was also appointed by President Bush in June of 2004 to serve as the Chairperson of the National Prison Rape Reduction Commission, a two-year commission created by the United States Congress that is tasked with the mission of identifying methods to curb the incidents of prison rape. Former Chief Justice Rehnquist appointed Judge Walton to the federal judiciary’s Criminal Law Committee, effective October 1, 2005. Judge Walton previously served as an Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia from 1981 to 1989 and 1991 to 2001, having been appointed to that position by Presidents Ronald Reagan in 1981 and George H. W. Bush in 1991. While serving on the Superior Court, Judge Walton was the court’s Presiding Judge of the Family Division, Presiding Judge of the Domestic Violence Unit and Deputy Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division. Between 1989 and 1991, Judge Walton served as President George H. W. Bush’s Associate Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy in the Executive Office of the President and as President Bush’s Senior White House Advisor for Crime.

Before his appointment to the Superior Court bench in 1981, Judge Walton served as the Executive Assistant United States Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney in Washington, D.C., from June, 1980 to July, 1981, and he was an Assistant United States Attorney in that Office from March, 1976 to June, 1980. From June, 1979 to June, 1980, Judge Walton was also the Chief of the Career Criminal Unit in the United States Attorney’s Office. Before joining the United States Attorney’s Office, Judge Walton was a staff attorney in the Defender Association of Philadelphia from August, 1974 to February, 1976.

  13. kindness says:

I was just over @ TPM & he had a note on this one. Apparently the judge had wanted to set the trial date for Sept 06 but one of Scooter’s lawyers protested saying he had a “scheduling conflict”.

    That’s mighty coincidental & rich.

  14. kindness says:

    thanks coreesa. good digging.

  15. WaltTheMan says:

Let’s appoint Crazy Eddie as Secretary of the Treasury. W only has 11 more months left to destroy the economy and he is only halfway there after five years. To those not in the know, Crazy Eddie was a NYC electronics dealer who bought stuff from manufacturers and then sold it below his cost. By coasting on exponentually increasing volumes, he managed to ride the wave for years. He took a quick exit to Isreal when he finally exausted his customer base.

  16. Coreesa says:

It seems that early on, I read that the administration would try to get this over to the District court to get it “taken care of”, or dismissed. Anyone else remember this?

  17. kindness says:

Damn Walt, I wouldn’t have figured you were that age. I remember his comercials when I lived in NY BACK IN THE 70’s.

  18. afterthought says:

I thought Crazy Eddie was the
    Secretary of the Treasury.
I remember his ads from the early 80’s, I think.

  19. Clif says:

No Sec. Snow’s last job was squeezing all the cash out of CSX railroad, ask anyone of them what they think and expect an ear full.

  20. David says:

Who has the goods on this judge?

WASHINGTON (CNN) — A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit Tuesday by a former FBI translator because the information needed to prove the case was classified and protected by what is known as the “state secrets privilege.”

In the lawsuit, originally filed in July 2002, Sibel Edmonds alleged that her rights under the Privacy Act and her First and Fifth amendment rights had been violated by the government.

Edmonds, who worked as a contract linguist, claimed she was fired after she alerted authorities about purported security and management problems in the bureau’s language branch.

The Justice Department and the FBI both argued to the court that her lawsuit should be dismissed because much of the information needed to be considered for it was protected by the “state secrets privilege,” which is meant to protect classified national security information from being disclosed.

U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton agreed with the government’s position.

Looks like the fix may be in.

  21. Jim Brodhead says:

And we can’t even stand upwind of the stink because it’s coming from all directions.

  22. The WB42 5:30 Report With Doug Krile says:

    Libby Trial. Next Year?!?!?…

How convenient. You just MUST read the comments that follow this post. One of Libby’s lawyers is busy. That’s the excuse. Look at the timing….

  23. Marie says:

HOw the hell did that happen? We thought his trial would have been scheduled for this summer — now the msm will gloss all of this over until after the elections, and by January, the public will determine it’s old and irrelevant news.

  24. Randy says:

What were you expecting to get out of this anyway? Instead of trying to convince America that Republicans are the party with a culture of corruption, which by the way isn’t working, why don’t you try to come up with an agenda? Tell us where you want to take this country. Tell us that you are going to repeal the Bush tax cuts. Tell us that you are not going to wire tap any phone conversations for fear that you might violate someone’s rights. Tell us that you favor an immediate withdrawal from Iraq and wish to surrender to Al Qaeda. Tell us what kind of judges you want on the Supreme Court. I know that you will do nothing of the sort because your party only wishes to hide behind what your true agenda is and would rather just critize the current administration. This is why the Republicans will continue to dominate the political landscape the next several decades.

  25. progressive and proud says:

Hey Randy, you should get out more. The public believes that republicans are out of touch and greedy, as well as corrupt. Rush today was very upset about Libby’s trial being so late, did you not brush up today? He wants it over before the elections. He is steaming mad about it even. He is funny. He is so high, he looses his train of thought all the time. It’s a gas to listen to. He is so drug addled and these “moral” people are eating up a druggies fanciful blatherings. It is truly a hoot.

And BTW, in redstate Tennessee, Diebold is OUT!!! We decided to go with Hart or ESS, but no Diebold. I suppose they figure they don’t have to court us here because we always vote for some bible thumpin dork. But, as with their general practice, repubs aren’t thinking ahead and at the very least, the elections will be fair.

  26. progressive and proud says:

Randy, did you know that Bush could get a court order? What is wrong with a court order? And, he can get the court order after the fact, is that not enough? How come?

  27. Wayne A. Schneider says:

#25 Thanks for the update. (I’m the one with a mom in TN.) Do you know if the Hart or ESS machines produce paper trails? or are they just as bad as Diebold in this regard. Also, and this is VERY important for you good folks, will election officials be allowed access to the code that runs the machines, or will they just have to take the vendor’s word that everything is on the up and up? States that agreed to let Diebold keep its code secret made a huge mistake. There was no possible way to verify that the machines worked the way the company claimed they would.

We need to keep on the MSM’s back to keep the story alive up to and during the elections in November. Remind people just before they vote what kind of criminals they might be sending back to Congress.

  28. Paul in Mexico says:

Hey Randy, the AGENDA is, the pukes and the Culture of Corruption.

Dont you understand that if we get rid of all the slime and crud the pukes, and you, spew about, this country will be much better off=

  29. David says:

What were you expecting to get out of this anyway?

How about justice? How about proving that no one is above the law? Quaint as those notions may be, some people actually still believe they have merit.

But, nice try at diversion. Hard to keep that Culture of Corruption going if people are paying attention.

  30. JIMBO says:

I agree on the timing of the trial. It should be this coming summer and with a conviction, a message to the GOP to
have their senators file for unemployment benefits.

CRAZY EDDIE! HIS PRICES ARE IIIINSAAAAAAAANE! :)

I remember the ads very well.

  31. missy says:

    Isn’t that convenient.

  32. missy says:

P.S. It couldn’t be before the election, now could it???

  33. missy says:

    (I meant the 06 elections, not 08)

  34. Yucky says:

    Randy,

Our former Democratic President has a PROVEN record of how to run a country. What part of Peace and Prosperity do you not like?

  35. Jojam Franc says:

An article worth reading and adds to Coressa’s post above

    http://www.oldamericancentury.org/dave3_039.htm

11 months (!!) before the trial can start…….. and after the elections…..his easy accomodation because just ONE of Libby’s defence team lawyers supposedly had a scheduling conflict is very convenient… after all, it is not as though Libby was just arrested yesterday….. and especially after reading in the Jenkins article, -’From February 2003 to April 2004,(15 months!) Walton repeatedly scheduled and postponed hearings in the Edmonds case without citing any reason. There was no communication from Walton to Edmonds’ attorneys from October ’03 to April ’04 until a lawsuit on behalf of one thousand 9/11 families was filed which requested a deposition from Sibel Edmonds. Only then, does Walton move (at the government’s request) to not only quash Edmonds ’ subpoena on behalf of the 9/11 families, but also upholds the gag order imposed on her using the State Secrets Privilege.’

I think there are some valid questions raised here that need to be amplified. Does this Judge Reggie Walton seem to be a bit fishy or what?
    Regards,
    Jojam Franc
