The five of us who write ThinkProgress are taking the rest of the day off (a few guests may be posting). We’re holding a retreat today where we’ll try to sketch out the direction of the blog (and our daily newsletter) over the next few months.
We want to know what you think. Share your ideas in the comments section or via email.
My idea is for you five to continue enlightening those of use who don’t have the time to search out the facts. I’ve enjoyed coming here for the last 4 months or so.
Don’t forget to have a good time at your retreat.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:11 pmKeep doing what you’re doing, and have fun ya crazy kids.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:14 pmKeep up the great work!!!
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:16 pmI imagine some of the wingnuts almost had an orgasm when they first read this headline… until they realized the true context of the word “retreat”. lol
On a serious note – the retreat is well-deserved. I still visit this site daily, no matter how busy work is, and I feel more enlightened for doing so. Keep fighting the good fight!
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:24 pmI agree with the above. Keep up the good work. Yours is usually the first page I go to, I find it trustworthy and insightful.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:32 pmYour posts are a vital part of my connection to people and things thousands of miles away from me, and my main interest is in having you know how important your work is, and how much it’s appreciated and needed. Keep up the good work!
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:34 pmthe only suggestion I can make is to try to find a consistent funnell to get more of whats posted here out into the MSM…maybe a weekly report on a news channel/program just to get the name out and maybe send more americans here to check in on headlines
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:34 pmYou guys are rapidly becoming an important, major force in the Progessive Movement, especially if you judge by how much you get linked to by others in the blogosphere.
Keep up the great work!!
..
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:39 pmLet the Administration change direction!
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:40 pmYou are doing just fine IMHO.
Retreat… Never Surrender!
TP is my daily source for true news. Take a break, regroup, refocus and come back hard!
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:42 pmKeep up the good work!
And demonstrate the rest of the world that not all americans are as the Bush cabal!
Cheers!
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:43 pmRetreat, rest up, think good thoughts, and hurry back! You all do an outstanding job, and it is GREATLY appreciated!!
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:44 pmThis Blog rocks! Keep it up guys. You’re all doing great. Enjoy you’re break.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:46 pmThanks for the good/informative/maddening times. Enjoy yourselves. We look forward to your return.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:47 pmYou guys do great work and I hope you’re not getting burnt out or discouraged by the neverending stream of evil that is Washington D.C.
Two suggestions:
1. Interact more with your TP public. Perhaps this would require a larger staff, but I appreciate blogs that make an effort to keep dialogue between the blogmasters (if there is such a thing) and their readers/participants. It gives all of us a chance to feel as though we’re doing more than just blogging amongst ourselves.
2. Ask John Podesta to start calling liars out when he appears on the talking head shows. I know there’s a certain etiquette to adhere to, but enough is enough…..call the lies as you see them and don’t be afraid to make waves! We’re fading fast here.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:48 pmThank you for the great job! I’ve stopped reading the New York Times and the Washington Post and, several times a day, check out the most recent postings on your Web site. I recommend Think Progress in every conversation I have about blogs.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:49 pmPlease, please explore taking away the GOP security/terrorism issue and giving it back to the Dems.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:54 pmI really liked the quick and thorough debunking of POTUS SOTU. So many lies. Only five of you. Nice work.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:56 pmTake a well deserved break…..but dont get lazy. You guys are far too important!
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:58 pmThank you so much.
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:59 pmThis is my favorite site.
my2cents
can you make this a non-sequiter free blog? when right wing idiots post stuff clearly meant to derail thread or incite responses due to their provocative stupidity and hate – can
we shut them down?
If they have a clear cohesive sensical argument or observation on the topic on hand – even if critical then by all means. Unlike right-wing blogs who sensor any posts not in line with the fascism, this site shoule be different in that regards. But squash the flaming. I am just saying.
chill
February 3rd, 2006 at 1:59 pmYes:
1. Do more fact-checking of major speeches/statements by Bush and the rest in the administration. The response to the SOTU was brilliant.
2. Send the fact check digests out as press releases and maybe put them in easily e-mailable form to alllow visitors to easily e-mail them to others.
Keep it up. The MSM doesn’t fact check anymore, so we need Web sites like yours.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:00 pmDo your best to refocus the media on the Plame case. It seems to have died on the vine.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:03 pmThanks for your efforts you are true American patriots.
t
My suggestion is make a more mainstream news organization. Format the news on a subsite so that it looks like CNN or MSNBC. Do an IPTV news network. If you can get that onto cable and radio great. The Internet was supposed to let anybody willing to put in the work and some money to reach out and touch people just as effectively as the old TV/radio world. Forget CNN/MSNBC/fox… replace them. Get CSPAN integrated as well as possible so that people can easily link right over to the action as it is going down.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:05 pmI think it would be helpful if you had added a permanent link section where you could find links to major news orgainzations’ comment sections, public feedback, etc. Also include direct links to Congress and political areas. I think it would help many here that post to get more involved and not just read and write. Its always nice when a writer posts links to help out. I usually have a five to ten minute window to do what I can. Plus I am not as savvy as most in my searches.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:06 pmI also check ThinkProgress daily and am beginning to rely on your excellent reports.
Please continue to stick to facts. Guard your reputation.
Consider a separate section for speculative posts – where you might discuss why other people acted in a certain way, not that they acted in a certain way. Speculation borders on gossip and if done often may lead to being dismissed – unless you want to be on Fox.
ThinkProgress is becoming a recognized voice. Accurate blogged news content defines the beginning of the “New Media” replacing “Old School Media (aka Mainstream Media)”.
Bravo,
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:08 pmMike In Denver
Take a break. Quaff a few, but don’t stop thinking.
There are times when statesmen must have the courage to do something unpopular. But their unpopular actions must be properly prepared, and must be put in the proper form, so that people will understand. The man on the street is usually not as unreasonable as some think. Since it is he who usually has to bear the heaviest burdens that result from unpopular policies, he at least has a right to know why things are being done this way and not that way. All practical politics depends on its persuasiveness. It is no sign of wise leadership to acquaint the nation with hard facts from one day to the next. Crises must be prepared for not only politically and economically, but also psychologically. Here propaganda has its place. It must prepare the way actively and educationally. Its task is to prepare the way for practical actions. It must follow these actions step by step, never losing sight of them. In a manner of speaking, it provides the background music. Such propaganda in the end miraculously makes the unpopular popular, enabling even a government’s most difficult decisions to secure the resolute support of the people. A government that uses it properly can do what is necessary without running the risk of losing the masses.
Propaganda is therefore a necessary life function of the modern state. Without it, seeking great goals is simply impossible in this century of the masses. It stands at the beginning of practical political activity in every area of public life. It is its important and necessary prerequisite.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:14 pmhow about;
1. blocking the IP of those who post here in breach of your Terms of use?
TP will lose out to blogs like firedoglake if you allow debates here to become personal mud-slinging matches rather than a political/philosophical discourse. Keep the standard of discussion high by enforcing your Terms of Use. Those who post opposing views must be allow to post here to allow for a professional discussion – it makes for a better debate. Do everything you can to keep the debate as intelligent as you can, not just as honest as you can.
2. create better links to your blog to increase the numbers of those who post here and learn here. Do this via permanent links from high-hit sites like michaelmoore.com (he had 4 million hits last week alone and he referenced your site once – that’s how I came to know of you).
3. invite prominent Democratics and Senators to write articles for discussion here. You know who the Dems are that are really doing their job – support them and provide them with a forum to air their views/defend their actions/invite opinions/gain feedback.
4.Those who are Democrats in name only must be refused access to this forum (point 3. above) and you can tell them why – it will also serve as a powerful means of letting those who are Democrats in name only, know that they are losing voters and why.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:19 pmThanks for your efforts. This is definately the best lefty blog that I have come across. Congratulations.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:20 pmAlthough i am as frustrated by the trolls as any, some of them (Giacomo comes to mind) are not as bad as others. The problem ones tend to have more than one screen name.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:30 pmHow about, once a troll has been defined as such (by requests from regulars on the site, your own judgement, whatever criteria you feel appropriate), an icon (perhaps a little troll?) would appear next to any screen name coming from that IP address? This would help. Many new visitors to the site have to go through a trial by fire where they learn what is a troll and who to watch out for… it would be great to hasten the dismissal of the garbage they spew. I am not in favor of any censorship, but a little warning would be good…
I’ve referred to Think Progress on my blog more than any other source over the last few months. Your SOTU coverage was so johnny-on-the-spot that every other news organization in the country ought to stand in awe.
Keep doing what you’re doing. Maybe you can do some of the techie things folks above have mentioned, but I’m no computer guy, just a blogger trying to get a hit.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:30 pmFind a way to attract and encourage democratic representatives in congress to read this blog. I am always appalled on how little they appear to know. They seem to rely on msm for their news and so fall in line too many times with the group think being pushed by the right wing.
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:39 pmI guarantee many have not heard the Bush speech in Buffalo where he blatantly lies about warrentless spying he was already doing. Mantra should be, “of course we should listen in on calls to Al-Queda, we just do not trust that the Bush adminstration limits it to that”. Then cite specific examples where we know – peace groups such as the Quakers were/are being spied on. Remind the right-wingers that the democratic party represents the interest of at least half of the US population – and thus should not be ignored.
I’ll definitely have some withdrawl syptoms,
but you guys do need a break. This constant stream of
sewage out of the capitol can wear anybody down.
Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:43 pm#30’s comment about a little troll icon has inspired me to draw one. One usually doesn’t get artistic inspiration from a blog such as this, so kudos!
I also agree with the previous comments, particularly about the need to find a better way to get the word out. Best wishes for continued success!
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:46 pmGreat site! I tell veryone I know about it….especially Republican automatons…..
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:46 pmKeep doing what you are doing…..
The amount of documented research you put into the site makes it invaluable to the lefty blogesphere
take a well deserved break…..
thanks for your tireless efforts guys…..
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:51 pmAs a long time lurker and reader I just wanted to thank you all for the work you have done. I wouldn’t presume to make suggestions as to the “direction” your site should take as I find it to be outstanding as it is. I think you should realize that there are many of us out here in the ether that really appreciate you holding people accountable. Please keep up the great work if you are able. Take care.
RH
February 3rd, 2006 at 2:53 pmIf if could by you all beers, I would. Thanks so much for all your hard work!
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:09 pmTP is the best blog on the web. I always come to this site for facts and news.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:11 pmTake a break, but come back refreshed and ready.
My one suggestion is: can you get your fact-checked rebuttals some traction in the msm? Precious few in media today are actually journalists, and even fewer are free from the fetters of corporate media reining them in to the “news that sells.” So, people like those at TP may find a window in msm to actually get the truth to the public.
I respect and appreciate the work you do. My one recommendation may not be appreciated by some, for it veers in the direction of censorship, but I would advocate the screening of comments, and the exclusion of any that are wholly off topic. It gets really tedious reading a thread supposedly about the war, or Bush’s incompetence, or some other significant issue and seeing it slide back into the same old partisan bickering on unrelated topics…
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:13 pmTP, I stated some suggestions earlier (#7), but never gave a chance to thank you for being a sane voice in an insane world
(for a troll to come on this thread and try to distract proves my point)
In terms of the more recent suggestions, my $.02:
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:16 pm*please do not become an exclusive democratic site (though I’m registered democrat) progressive independents and repugs should post if there history of being fair and just proves true
*reviewing IP addresses to block or label users (troll cartoon = yellow star) without an oversight will be so hypocritical it will beyond irony…maybe a known troll alias section that can be referred to and debunked if necessary (equal to all)
*I agree with splitting off from speculation and even chasing down everything fox (or this week Matthews) says thats condrictory/unethical followed by a thread on public policy…though both wrong, the two are not on the same leve
Something I find that really helps is Al Franken’s postivity. Maybe we could use more of that. Little victories. Just a thought.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:26 pmAre you nervous because you have a fascination with homosexuality? Stop talking about it all the time and people won’t think you are one.
You mean like the fact that you should be banned for all of your homophobic and racial slurs?
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:28 pmAlso,
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:28 pm-Perhaps a “Hateful message of the day” or “Post of the Day” feature to increase participation.
Just when we were beginning to be heard?
You guys take a Vacation?
Well, ta Hells up with that?
mr ho is no paid journalist
mr ho nevers quits
Their will be more Blogs, by this Soverign Citizen, with just as much Neo-Con ass kicking as Ol mr ho can muster

February 3rd, 2006 at 3:28 pmi don’t know if anybody has suggested this but the left needs their own hannity or limbaugh or o’reilly.maybe there is already some out there but they’re not popular. we need someone to call republicans anti-american traitors.i know its stooping down, but it’s gotten so bad. whatever it takes at this point. would a section devoted to a real hard hitting, somewhat controversial, character be beneficial? loveto hear thoughts from y’all.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:29 pmTalk about some of the negative social changes that have occurred because of sloppy sentimentality and over reaching do-gooder meddling in peoples lives by activist federal judges.
If the christian crazies have the right to meddle in peoples privates lives so do judges…
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:31 pmIrI
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:31 pmyour opinions matter, as much as mine…and after reading yours in #45 I am reminded of the movie 187 when the kid is telling off the teacher and then when security goes after him he says he’ll sew…you come in here day in and day out and post nonsense and now complain when people call you on it…you post show how want to extinguish americans’ liberties, but are now screaming for yours…my last post had a plea for ignorance…you have yet to show any, and in my opinion, have no right to make that same plea…you are not just a troll, but a PUNK in the worst possible way
PLAME!
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:32 pmYou guys have done an amazing job. This site has quickly become one of my ‘go to’ sources for lefty news.
If I could make a suggestion, it would be to more clearly define each section of the website. Why are some articles just quickie blurbs and others get more special treatment? I don’t really need a change, it’s just something I get curious about.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:32 pmYou deserve some time off. “Take a rest and have a piece fruit” As my Jewish Mother would say.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:33 pmAnd Judd,
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:33 pmI’ve heard you on AA. You really need to be more aggressive. You’re too smart. Bring it up a notch ala Dean.
Open the diaphram.
I echo the sentiments of most of the others. I read your blog regularly to get the real story on the news. Please keep up the good work. I am not an activist, but I always vote and am not shy about sharing my opinions with others who vote. As to the calls to limit who can post, I am opposed. I am not a registered Democrat and have voted for Republicans in local, but never national elections. I consider myself a moderate who can not stand mendacity and incompetence in any politician–basically I hate them all. I would hope that I do not get banned from the site simply because I would write ill of a “liberal” or “progressive” Democrat who is a crook or an idiot. Thankfully, with the Republicans there is so much mendacity and incompetence that I do not have time to get exercised over Democrats.

February 3rd, 2006 at 3:35 pmWe cannot stoop to their level…just because they did it is not an excuse, we need to keep the higher ground (more aggressive yes, but demoralizing, NO)
If we start having liberal O’Riely’s then everyone in the middle will drop out of the process, and drive a bigger rift…just like us and torture, can’t tell others to stop if we particpate
#50
The right wingers have under taken a deep and wide campaign to adobt the language of the left so they can water down the message..i.e. Bush saying we are addicted to oil and then does nothing about it…
We should do the same to them. Let them see what it is like to have super pissed off people calling them traitors and weak on homeland security and financial security for the little guy. And comparing them to the muslims getting all pissed off over people that are not even the same religion making cartoons about that religion. Comparing them to the Taliban. Comparing them to the Saudis. Get somebody that says BRING IT ON! every 5 minutes to the right wingers. Raise the tempature a few degrees and get this fight to its conclusion.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:35 pmWhat a week of PULVERIZING truth suppositories to go out on . You are my heros. Have a Guiness for me. Thanks again.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:36 pmYou guys have been doing a great job! Thank you for all your hard work. Enjoy your retreat.
Some suggestions (some old, some new):
1. Can you provide a glossary of frequently used socio-political terms so that people can be sure they are using words correctly. (Then we can decide for ourselves if the Bush Administration is more like the Fascists or more like the Nazis. There seems to be disagreement on that point.) Also, some terms frequently used in legislative talk (such as “earmark”, “markup”, “tabling”, etc) would be good to add.
2. A link to a table from your own site with every Congressional member’s official website and e-mail address. Yes, one can go to the “official†websites for each house, but it can take several minutes to navigate through to what you need. I prefer e-mail addresses, as opposed to just a form letter site, because then I can address the message to whichever specific members of Congress I want to reach and not have to do them separately. This list might also include committee websites and e-mail addresses with the committee membership updated frequently. Again, it is available on Thomas.loc (I think), but why go to another website when you could provide us the info we need? Oh, and include many of the executive functions, too, like the State Department, the Defense Dept, etc. And a link to your very own copy of the Constitution and its Amendments would be nice, too.
3. I like the “troll indicator†idea mentioned above. Many of us have wondered how many personalities certain trolls are posting under. Some appeared to have been found out due to clues I won’t go into (for national security reasons.) But it would be nice to know if the person I think I am arguing with is the same person I argued with another time. On another note, if you can determine from either the e-mail address they give you or the IP address of whoever posted a comment, that they are from some right-wing think tank, then please spill the beans and tell us. Some here suspect that certain people are paid to come here and be disruptive (as well as ignorant). Some trolls claim this is true, but they lie so often it’s hard to know what’s real. Help us out. I do not favor total censorship, but I do favor banning those that serve no useful purpose to your goals. And I don’t care how “totalitarian†someone might think this is. It’s only “totalitarian†if it’s a public website run by the government. A private website can set up whatever rules it wishes to do regarding terms of use and who can and can’t post. It’s thanks to a little something we call freedom.
4. Here’s an odd one: perhaps you could offer certain people who frequently post good, thoughtful, informative and creatively thought out posts (you decide who among us) a place to have some of their thoughts archived for quick reference. You could, for example, decide that something a certain poster wrote was so good that you want to make it available to others later on for easy reference. A place could be set up where others can search by author or by topic (of the post itself, not necessarily the thread it was on). And no, I am not thinking of myself here as a “chosen oneâ€. Others are so much more deserving of this than me that I would be kidding myself to think I belong in the same category.
5. Although this would be a lot of work for the five of you to do (on top of what you do now), but it would be helpful if we could know about important legislation as it works its way through committees. Too often, other progressive sites will send out alerts telling us that something we don’t want passed is being voted on today and that we must hurry and write our reps. Well, they could do more good if they alert us more in advance than that. Perhaps we can influence legislators while bills are still being written, rather than when they are being voted on.
6. I like what another poster said about calling a liar a liar. It would be great to see John Podesta (or any of you) go on the Sunday talk shows and use words like “lie†and “lying†and other synonyms because we all know that this administration does it on a constant basis.
7. Finally, for now, keep up the great work. Have yourselves a good retreat, and we all look forward to your future work. Thank you for all you’ve done.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:37 pmThankfully, with the Republicans there is so much mendacity and incompetence that I do not have time to get exercised over Democrats.

A living hypocricy if there has ever been one.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:38 pmThank You .I pull T.P. up every morning to read real uncensored news that is going on in our country.
Suggestion keep hammering out the truth because someday those who trst this admisntration or any adminstration and those who don’t believe in checks and balances will come to rely on T.P. as much as the rest of us do.
Think Progress is our Ben Franklin ,ohh how about a newpaper for those who don’t have access to the internet.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:39 pm#48 Gus, I like that one. A “Post of the Day”. The only thing about doing a “Hateful Message of the Day” is that some of our trolls would compete to come up with the worst possible thing to say. And things could only go downhill from there. But I do like the positive reinforcement idea.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:39 pm7. Finally, for now, keep up the great work. Have yourselves a good retreat, and we all look forward to your future work. Thank you for all you’ve done.

February 3rd, 2006 at 3:44 pmOne thing you might think about during your retreat is the tolerance for the more obnoxious, ludicrous and idiotic right wingers on your blog and if it’s worth it in terms of driving other people away from your site to allow them to stick around so long.
I have seen enough of “I RIGHT I” to last a lifetime.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:45 pmAnother homophobic response, who woulda guessed.

February 3rd, 2006 at 3:49 pmPart of our problem is that we’re letting men run the country, when clearly they are the weaker sex:
When times are tough, women tend naturally to abort a higher percentage of male fetuses. Researchers call it culling, but they don’t know why it occurs.
This much is known: During times of social or economic stress, a woman’s liver tends produces more of a hormone called cortisol that proves so damaging to male fetuses they actually kick out in response to it.
Female fetuses, more vital on the whole, seem relatively unaffected by the cortisol.
One theory states that damage to male fetuses is a side effect of this hormonal stress response.
But in a new study, researchers provide evidence for the other theory, that the body is purposely culling the males by pumping out cortisol in an effort to get rid of a child-to-be that is less likely to survive the presumably difficult situation outside the womb.
The key to the research is this: Male embryos and fetuses are known to be weaker. So trying to bring a boy into this world under hardship would be disadvantageous, in terms of survival of the fittest, compared to having a girl.

February 3rd, 2006 at 3:52 pmOh, and I think anyone who calls for some poster here to be banned should be ridiculed by all and made to feel like the totalitarian worm that he is.
This is a privately owned site. The owners have a perfect right to ban anyone they want to, and it’s no more totalitarian than me kicking you out of my house because you’re making an ass out of yourself.
You don’t like it, feel free to get your own site.
February 3rd, 2006 at 3:53 pmMy left-brain really likes your color-coded layout. I like the whole style of your blog. Keep up the good work and enjoy the rest of your day.

February 3rd, 2006 at 4:00 pmTP folks: keep up the great work.
My only suggestion has been spoken to previously: Find links into the MSM and work them like crazy.
Everything else is just about perfect. The ReichWingNutWackJob Trolls only underscore the point concerning their hatred for everything other than themselves.

You still don’t get the conservative movement in this country do you? The reason why Rush and Hannity were successful on talk radio was that it was the only outlet not dominated by the liberal MSM. I know you hate hearing that but the truth does hurt every now and then. Your really problem is not with the voice but with the message. Your movement is dead. It is not mainstream but you and every other blogger here are still living in the counter culture of the 1960s. America has changed, you have not. If you need any evidence of this, just check out the ratings decline for any of the major network newscasts versus Fox or how well Air America is doing.
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:10 pmPerhaps an “ignore” option? Then those who still wish to engage the trolls, can do so, but those who don’t can just continue the reasoned debate. In a Democratic America, everyone, even trolls, should enjoy free speech, but they sell earplugs for a reason. Troll are free to speak, we should be free to ignore them, visually, or not. Scrapping can be fun too! And thank you for all of your efforts, being able to stay informed is so very important. We’ve come a long way, Baby!!

February 3rd, 2006 at 4:15 pmunbelieveable,
Maybe the male fetus is naturally aborted in times of stress and not a female because women reproduce and a male would be just another mouth to feed when there probably are already males around since the female is pregnant. Having an offspring that can reproduce is more important to the species as a whole in times of trouble. Now saying the reason for this is that males are weaker might be your opinion but it could be something else. Just some thoughts…I don’t think nature has an involvement in our own creation of “the battle of the sexes”.
unbelievable…that’s not ignoring (wag of finger)
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:15 pmIn addition, anyone here who still thinks that MSM is not liberally biased, look no further than today’s announcement of the latest unemployment figures. The way they report it, you might think that everyone is standing in soup lines and selling apples. The unemployment rate of 4.7% is about the same as during Clinton’s second term, but it wasn’t reported the same way.

WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER ‘RACIST LANGUAGE’ AT TACO BELL
Fri Feb 03 2006 09:24:48 ET
A woman accused of using racial epithets while waiting for food at a Connecticut Taco Bell drive-through window was arrested Wednesday.
Jennifer Farrelly, 19, of East Windsor, has been charged with ridicule on account of race, creed or color and second-degree breach of peace. Farrelly’s boyfriend, Eric Satterlee, 22, of Ashford, was charged with breach of peace in the incident.
On Dec. 18, Farrelly and Satterlee became frustrated by the slow service at the Taco Bell restaurant on Brookside Place, according to an arrest warrant. Farrelly banged on the drive-through window and called the Taco Bell attendant, Jamelle Byrd, a racial epithet, according to the warrant. Satterlee allegedly cursed and banged on the window.
Farrelly denied using racial epithets when she was interviewed by police, saying Byrd caused the dispute by ridiculing her for parking her car far away from the drive-through window, the warrant states. Byrd’s supervisor told police that Byrd should not have been working the drive-through because he had gotten into a similar incident with another customer, the warrant states.

February 3rd, 2006 at 4:19 pmdlet -
This was from the article (I was just paraphrasing this point to mess with the macho trolls who routinely spout misogynistic comments):
“The key to the research is this: Male embryos and fetuses are known to be weaker. So trying to bring a boy into this world under hardship would be disadvantageous, in terms of survival of the fittest, compared to having a girl.”
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:19 pm#93 – That was a paraphrase from Terry Pratchett in his book “Small Gods”. Indeed, it is easier to die for a lie than it is to live for the truth.
Bush needed to find a way to cover for his lies. He sent thousands of Americans to their deaths. He sent hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians to their deaths in other countries. And… he directed the abduction and torture of innocent civilians out of Europe and around the globe.
It will take the world several generations to forget the damage that has been caused by one man and his lies.

Well, we gotta identify WHO we’re ignoring? And well, he frequently is his own spokesman for why ignoring him is a good idea… Though, I think if we’re going to ignore trolls it should be the ones with zero value. If not taken seriously, IRI can be amusing (In a laughing AT him kind of way :) I would vote to ignore Aphrodite. She’s not funny, not a valid sparing partner, not interesting, and not entertaning… plus she hates women. :)

If I-Wrong-I would leave this forum, I would be inconsolable. Overcome with grief. It would be months, maybe even years before I would recover. It would be like losing a parent. It would be devastating.
I-Wrong-I is all about me, me, me, me, me, me, me.

Let him have the reins while the TP staff takes a break.

I didn’t think you were. Just explaining why I posted it. If anything, I think ithe article is more of an argument for abortion. If the body can naturally reject fetuses at will, then clearly nature (or their god of choice) isn’t exactly treating them as precious things to be protected…
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:33 pmIf that were true there would be a high percentage of women in developing nations. Such is not the case therefore the study is a load of crap put out by the man hating hags that inhabit the social meddlers cabal.
Comment by I-RIGHT-I — February 3, 2006 @ 4:25 pm
Not it’s not the case at all. Considerably more male fetuses are conceived that female. As a result, it levels out the birth rate. Think about it. If there were 100 males fetuses convceived, but only 75 were born, while 75 female fetuses were conceived and 70 born – it’s about a wash.
You know I don’t hate men. Just ignorance.
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:37 pmI am terribly impressed with your work here. You guys/gals are as sharp as tacks. Whatever you do to the blog, please give yourselves credit for amazing work, and don’t accidentally derail yourselves. Give yourselves raises! :)
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:37 pmin terms of comedic merit that does not fly with me, there is nothing worse than reading through 5 or 6 comments hitting refresh and suddenly there are 47 or 139 all from trolls going back and forth with posters and trading jokes at each others expense – all of which is off topic…i love this site, come here quite often, but I don’t feel any kinship with fellow posters, its not an online community, its a news site where issues can be discussed
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:38 pmLet’s see…Judd plants a thread saying that the powers that be ath the blog are taking the afternoon off to plot direction and strategy.
You’d think EVERYONE would say “Great! you deserve it!”.
Instead, what do we find back at the old homestead?
We find trolls (the usual suspects) grovelling in the muck & mire and trying (sometimes successfully) to drag us down to their level…. WHAT A SURPRISE!!!!
I have an idea, everyone go out, have a drink, hell, have a few drinks (careful driving though) and have a FABULOUS WEEKEND….
I’m in an odd position here folks. I’m gonna be rooting for the Seahawks, but I kinda want Cower to win one cause I like the coach….We’ll all just have to wait and see.

And on that note – have a good evening everyone, even you IRI.
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:46 pmLike most of the above, I’m a big fan. I especially appreciate the timeliness of the coverage on a variety of stories that interest me. The layout of the site is also very user friendly. But, I have one criticism (intended constructively):
There are a lot of very important, very serious criticisms that can be levied against those on the right. I find that you dilute these somewhat by trying to throw up seemingly every criticism you can think of. The specific example I was thinking of is the whole Alito-Vanguard thing (there were a number of commenters who explained why). Also, criticising a commodity provider in a competitive market for large dollar profits seems non-sensical. Would you be happier if they split up into 4 companies that each made 1/4 as much?
Occasionally agreeing with the other side will make your disagreements more focused and more powerful.
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:47 pmRatings shmatings. Fox news has a viewership of 1.4 million. World of Warcraft has 5 million player. so, 3.6 million people would rather play a video game than listen to or watch Fox News BS.

LOL If it’s a blowout, I’m a blowout!!

February 3rd, 2006 at 4:53 pmThis being an election year, I would like to see hard-core research tying in all the Republican lies and corruption with the Republican candidates who are running. Put a renewed spotlight on them.
Also,it would be great to have some direct links to Democratic candidates who are featured on any posts on this blog (every little bit of exposure helps).
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:53 pmI hear ya Bob, that’s one thing I want is a good game, which was hard to find during the playoffs (besides the underdog blowing out the favorite)
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:54 pmBushllit, and we all hope the game doesn’t have as odd an ending as Steelers vs Colts. I’m sure the Bus is still thanking Ben for making the amazing open field tackle. If Ben hadn’t made that stop, well I won’t make you think about it. LOL
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:59 pmWhy are you guys going on a retreat again? Why don’t you really tell us the truth and say you are going to the Super Bowl or something? Usually you don’t fix what ain’t broke so things must be really screwed up here if you guys are going on a “retreat”. Well have a good time at the game and go Steelers!
February 3rd, 2006 at 5:00 pmI have this old Steelers winter cap that I will be wearing Sunday. I got it probably when I was fourteen. I haven’t had too much luck in backing a Superbowl winner…lol.
February 3rd, 2006 at 5:05 pm#89 THE movement has been going on for thousands of years… it isnt even close to dead. The only reason America exists is because of that movement… GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH …notice the word liberty ..liberal… Go read up on the people that started America …they believed in liberal ideals … otherwise they would have stayed “loyal” servants of the king.
And until people stop believing in Jesus the liberal movement is alive and well… remember Jesus was a liberal against the conservative jewish community …. chew on that one for a while.

February 3rd, 2006 at 5:12 pmThis is expected to grow – so get ready!
Please be aware that what we’ve seen in the past is going to increase exponentially regarding Government Corruption Incidents. So hold on to your hat!
Along with the different incidents will be a “connecting the dots†with some to later many of the incidents. I personally know that The Bush’s and Clinton are deeply involved and if you include outside the US, this is where you’ll need seat belts!
I’ve left a few posts here and there that talked about a huge mammoth sized Corruption Laundromat. When that starts to surface with who is involved, expect a Political Tsunami to hit.
There are other higher crime layers above Political Corruption! Frankly, they involve complete criminal sub-systems for dealing with those who are threats to the criminal empire systems. Some of this in separate topic forms have been published over the years but they haven’t been grouped together under being known as a huge Criminal Organization yet! That’s out there as well. You should already see some of it but if it’s too far away, expect it soon or later this year.
Remember, “This is the Worlds Largest Criminal Systemâ€! If you’re surprised already, what are you going to do when other more serious criminal crimes surface?
It’s important to view this from the top down if at all possible. I understand that it’s important to look at this from incidents that can be linked together. But that won’t allow you to plan ahead! You’ll be scrambling with each new incident and when many start looking like they are linked, you’ll go crazy.
Those who are the planners, please feel free to write me with your questions. I’ll talk about what I can talk about.
I wrote an eBook about my story but stopped short of publishing it for now. I have my reasons. This is going to change eventually and it will be out for you to read.

February 3rd, 2006 at 5:50 pmWe used to have newspapers that actually gave the readers facts instead of propaganda. Now, they are all owned by the mega-corporations who own various facets of media as well as corporate holdings that stand to benefit if the public perceives certain media stories in a particular way; the result is we get pablum, propaganda and promotionals.

February 3rd, 2006 at 7:32 pmKeith Olbermann was the only one who reported on this. If everyone doesn’t know already, check out The Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC. He’s a breathe of fresh air in our brain-dead media. If you do already watch his show, I would suggest sending him a thank you email letting him know he is doing a great job. Maybe the MSNBC producers will catch on and realize that people want REAL news.

February 3rd, 2006 at 7:51 pmI watch Olbermann for the very same reason.
Thank you TP and all posters, agree with many. One poster mentioned hooking up with C-span or like net works to get us information as it was happening instead of us having to wait for notice from our other sites. Good idea. Another mentioned having links to all the Representatives so we could respond quicker, another good idea.
In the matter of the trolls, I don’t care. Free speech is the main thing and unless they get out of hand with your rules leave them to add their comments. One said he get’s paid, don’t want some one to loose his job for expressing his opinion rather I like it or not. If I don’t like their posts I ignore them, if they tick me off sometimes I respond.
Unbelievable, liked #77. In nature many species have twins when there is to be a bad winter. Also read years ago that in years after wars more male’s were born, don’t know if it’s true tho. I have alway’s believed we are definately not the weaker sex (female) and in most cultures we live longer. One thing I have alway’s wondered about tho is why do we make them our presidents and leaders when every one know’s they have two brains one to think with and one to screw with, facts I can’t produce say there is only enough blood to use one brain at a time and all males spend more time thinking about sex 24/7 than thinking about anything else. So why do we allow them the power.? Woulden’t a dual partnership (male/female) in high positions be more sane.
Know you all are going to go crazy after that. Just like messing with you men. LOL. Try not to take to much offence, I like you all, just don’t happen to need another one.
With TP off on retreat I am going into withdrawels. Since Denver isn’t playing I will root for the Seahawks. Done for this day…..Blessings to all, yes even the trolls….

February 3rd, 2006 at 9:19 pmI love ThinkProgress, too. However, I wish the site had a better layout and was easier to read. The text is always too small and I have to enlarge it every time, and consider tossing in a photo once in a while. Keep up the GREAT work!
February 3rd, 2006 at 11:32 pmIt’s starting to look like we got outflanked on the Bush-Abramoff photos. Joshua Marshall ALMOST had some before they got scrubbed. We need to start thinking like they do – how will the right wing try to cover this up? How can we beat them to the evidence? Let’s think and work together, folks. After all, we have God AND science on our side, hehe.

I’m sending the entire crew pizza and soft drinks next week as a way to express my gratitude for a job well done. People like the ugly evil hag should be beaten whenever they show their face and true colors. USA! USA! USA!

Thanks to the lunatics that dominate and have come to characterize the Left in America the progressive movement is more and more becoming the bubble boy of American politics. USA! USA!
Launched in 2002, the Michigan IMC featured hundreds of articles on the work of social movements in Michigan and beyond. The decision to shut down the site had several reasons:
Cleveland Indy Media to Shut Its Doors (for lack of interest)
Technical problems that impeded the usefulness of the website.
Lacking a strong editorial collective capable of regularly administering the website and producing content
A conscious decision to focus on other independent media and related projects.

February 4th, 2006 at 12:23 pmHere’s another good idea. We should have a section devoted entirely to bigotry and racism that is never reported by the MSM. That will teach those Righ Wing Nut Jobs that they can’t get away with not printing all the news….
Black conservatives were pretty appalled by the Julian Bond speech: “Bond is said to have called Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and predecessor Colin Powell “tokens.” He also compared the Bush Administration’s judicial nominees to the former Taliban regime in Afghanistan and said “The Republican Party would have the American flag and the [Nazi] swastika flying side by side.” “If Julian Bond’s comments are indicative of the NAACP, the group has truly lost its way. I believe the NAACP has positioned itself on the far left of the political spectrum, and Mr. Bond’s comments give me no reason to think otherwise,” said Project 21 member Jimmie Hollis.”

You’re worried about the words of some woman angry with the system? I’d say your focus is in the wrong place. Instead, you should be focused on the corruption of our elected officials. They have the power and authority she does not. And the differnece between the two is that she cares about your rights. The government does not.

We’ll probably never know the full truth, but it seems pretty clear that IRI is here to stay. But considering how easily his arguments get shredded, he’s really not doing much to convert anyone to his side. And maybe that’s a good thing for us… :)
February 4th, 2006 at 4:02 pmJudd,
Why should the likes of IRI be here to stay?
IRI does not post to try and convert anybody to his side. IRI posts to be as outrageous and abusive as possible – to 1. distract from the topic and
2. have fun while doing so. Remember IRI’s comment (now deleted) ‘why doesn’t TP open up and have some fun/be politically incorrect’?
Thanks for deleting one of his racist and obscene comments directed at me earlier.
TP wanted to know what we think……
enough people have mentioned blocking those who post here in breach of TP’s ‘Terms of Use’ but want debate with those who have constructive, opposing views. Those who contribute to a discussion e.g. Giacomo/Joe Sixpack etc. seem mostly welcome and add to a debate.
Either TP wants intelligent debate or TP does not.
What is the point of TP asking what we want if our suggestions are going to be ignored? An explanation from TP of why we are going to be ignored (if we are) would at least be polite/allow us to understand rather than second guess as the post above (#166 from unbelievable).
Come on Judd, raise the standards, I love what you guys are doing here, nobody enjoys scrolling past volumes of troll crap.

The Left is practically dead pops. Most of the brain power (Jewish Red Diaper Babies) have either died or evolved into neo-conservatives. The sixties fuck fest is over and now all you’ve got since the Soviets fell is a mish mash of various deviant groups trying to pull one wagon in ten different direction.
The National Association of Colored People really doesn’t matter any more either. Blacks in all professions have been raised to their level of incompetence (Colin Powell is a perfect example.)and the new minority group that everyone is going after is the Hispanic. (That’s Mexican to you)
We’ve done all that is humanly possible to help the American Negro and the well of compassion, tolerance and white guilt has run dry. If you want proof just look at the 250,000 fourth generation welfare dependents that have been scattered to the four winds on purpose never to return to the Crescent City. Or as Nagin would say, “Chocolate City”.

…I realize life is “good” for you al Crackers right now, but your time is running out…

One thing that you forget though, the former Soviet Union and the Red Chinese have never trusted and never will trust each other and neither would cut off their nose to spite the USA. They need us more than we need them. Nobody cares what a few commie stooges in S. America think because we can materialize a coup in a matter of months to follow up the untimely demise of fascist leaders like Chavez. In fact I doubt Chavez will last until the end of the year even though he’s a gnat on an elephant’s ass. We may kill him just out of spite. As for the Camel Jocks…it really doesn’t matter what they do with their money as their governments, each and every one are particularly vulnerable to being overthrown either by Jihadists or pro-democracy factions.
The USA will sit back and do what we do, rule the world through global economic preeminence. There is no pie we do not have our fingers in. In fact, without the USA there is no pie at all.

I thought I had hurt myself from laughing when I saw that. Why? Because much has been said of late about American “manhood” It seems you losers are thought of in this country and around the world as a bunch of menstruating whateversexual pussies. I’m talking about liberal men. In fact I don’t really think you can be liberal and a man any more than you can vote Democratic and be a Christian. Anyway, just FYI before I have to go.
Here’s something fun to read. Liberal men suck; could in time = Homosexual. It looks that way to me.
LIKE SOME HAGGARD CRACK WHORE banging on the door of a dealer’s den willing to do anything , the hapless Joel ( “I despise our troops.” ) Stein has been passed randomly about the blogsphere in the last couple of days.
Once a blogpile of such mountainous proportions starts, there’s little left to comment on in terms of the content of Stein’s small dry excretion after the first five hours. By that time the whole quisling screed has been pretty much picked apart like a biology major dissects an owl’s pellet and glues the contents to a board with captions.
Then it is time for the masters of the trade to go to work and perform, live and on the air, “The Final Evisceration.” In this case, Hugh Hewitt comes forward with what is perhaps one of the best full flensings of his career. [Pointer and "flensing" courtesy of LILEKS (James) ]
If you have ever wanted to hear a classic radio interview cooly calculated to have the interviewee reveal himself in all his naked smallness before a national audience, you owe it to yourself to listen and read the audio and transcript of Hugh Hewitt interviewing Joel Stein. You owe it to yourself to listen to this segment — and you’ll need to listen in order to understand what comes next. You don’t have to listen to all of it, although it is hard to turn the ear away. Just listen attentively to the voice of Stein himself for a minute or so.
Go ahead. I’ll wait here.
Back? Good.
What is of interest to me here is not what Stein writes or says. His own words damn him more decisively than a thousand bloggers blathering blithely What interests me is how he speaks.
If you focus on it, you realize that you hear this voice every day if you bounce around a bit in our larger cities buying this or ordering that, and in general running into young people in the “service” sector — be it coffee shop, video store, department store, boutique, bookstore, or office cube farm. It’s a kind of voice that was seldom heard anywhere but now seems to be everywhere.
It is the voice of the neuter .
I mean that in the grammatical sense:
“a. Neither masculine nor feminine in gender.
“b. Neither active nor passive; intransitive,”
and in the biological sense:
“a. Biology Having undeveloped or imperfectly developed sexual organs: the neuter caste in social insects.
“b. Botany Having no pistils or stamens; asexual.
“c. Zoology Sexually undeveloped.”

Come spend one day in my classroom and you will know that that is absolutely NOT the case. There are people who are oppressed. You just don’t see it because you posess none of the traits of the oppressed.
For example, abused children are taught that they are inferior (because they aren’t good enough to be loved) and as a result they act accordingly. That’s oppression. And it exists. It is real. Very, very real.

That’s not oppression. That’s the result of 50 years of liberalism and the destruction of the traditional family.

Are you serious? Because some of the 15 year olds in my third period class today refused to believe that there are people in this country who still believe that the sun revolves around the earth. And frankly, in the same vein of incredulity, I’m beginning to wonder how an educated man with grown children can really believe that nonsense you just typed.

I think you should be reported for teaching the “flat earth myth” and denigrating Christians. In addition if you can’t see the damage done by the godless liberal heathens that have been manipulating society since Dewey was a boy then you shouldn’t be teaching at all.
I know these things because I am educated. For $500 I’ll enroll you in “I-RIGHT-I’s School of Shit You Should Already Know”. Of course you’ll have to fly to Houston for a weekend to take the class and acceptance is determined by a latest full body photograph and your medical records.

I wasn’t telling them that the sun goes around the earth… wake up, and try to pay attention. I was telling them that there are people who still believe in a geocentric universe. I am not one of them. And if I didn’t dread the wrath of willingly ignorant religious freaks like you, I’d teach them all about evolution too, as it’s hard to fully answer their questions while laboring to avoid reality. Perhaps you could explain how you do.
And if you can’t see the damage done by the godfearing neocon heathens that have been manipulating society since Dewey was a boy then you shouldn’t be speaking at all.

In what exactly?

I’m a vegan who teaches science that’s never had a baby. How could it even be possible for me to be fat? I look like I’m in my twenties for a reason (and that will sound even better when I’m in my fourties…).
I hardly see how sleeping with you would be education on anything except why conservative men hate women. And, as I’ve said, I’m not that kind of girl. I don’t have to be :). Plus, wouldn’t want to see you offend Jesus by breaking the Christian rules of celebacy (or is that one of the ones you ignore, along with the kindness and humility stuff too?).

I didn’t say anything about sex. I just can’t be seen with any fatties or uglies. On the other hand if I did err and allow you to have your way with me I believe that converting you would cover just about any sin. I could be wrong about that.

So, how do I know you aren’t an ugly or fatty?
Though, unlike you, intellect, wit and personality are more attractive than just a fancy facade. Arrogance, boring and nasty will make any man ugly no matter how great his physical appearance may be.
Converting me to what?

For teaching the “Flat Earth Myth”. Nobody, not even early Christians believed that the Earth was flat. That’s a lie. You should know better. You would know better if it weren’t for the fact that you WANT to believe it. I expect more from the adults given charge over our nation’s kiddies. I demand more and if I don’t get it heads will roll. Our survival as a nation and culture depends upon it.
“Teach your children well”….
e many of his colleagues, Graur delights in comparing critics of Darwinism to believers in a flat Earth. According to the standard story, Christians used to believe for biblical reasons that the Earth is flat. When modern science demonstrated that the Earth is actually a sphere, that belief became a legitimate target for ridicule. Now, since modern science has likewise demonstrated the truth of Darwin’s theory (so the story goes), critics of Darwinism are just as silly as flat- Earthers.
But the story is totally false. It was pure fiction until it was turned into a phony historical claim by late-19th century Darwinists who used it to slander Christians.
The spherical shape of the Earth was known to the ancient Greeks, who even made some pretty good estimates of its circumference. Christian theologians likewise knew that the Earth was a sphere. The only two Christian writers who seem to have advocated a flat Earth were a 4th-century heretic, Lactantius, and an obscure 6th-century eccentric, Cosmas Indicopleustes.
The modern Flat Earth Myth originated with the 19th-century American writer Washington Irving. In his fictional History of the Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus (1828), Irving wrote that flat-Earth churchmen had opposed Columbus on the grounds that he would fall off the edge of the Earth if he tried to sail across the Atlantic. In actuality, Columbus’s opponents knew not only that the Earth is a sphere, but also approximately how big it is. Since they (like Columbus) knew nothing about the Americas, it was quite reasonable for them to believe that a voyage to the Far East would not be a good investment.
The Flat Earth Myth remained clearly in the realm of fiction until Darwin published his Origin of Species in 1859. Then two of Darwin’s followers presented it as actual history in books that defended Darwinism against imaginary attacks from ignorant Christians: John Draper’s The History of the Conflict Between Religion and Science (1874), and Andrew Dickson White’s A History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom (1896). The pseudo-historical propaganda of Draper and White has been thoroughly discredited by twentieth-century historians.

No matter how much you labor at it, I do not condemn Christians. It’s organized religion in general that I abhor. There is a difference. But even then, I understand that a majority of this country believes in invisible idols and fairytales because of a book called the Bible, and something even more influential called cultural indoctrination by parents. You really should read that book. Because if you understand the article you posted, and agree with it, then you’d understand some of my other points which follow along with the logic in the article you posted. That if you need or want to have a spirituality in your life, then define it for yourself instead of taking someone else’s words for it. Most of my friends are ’spiritual but not religious’ because they are able to find a balance between the two. And so might you if you didn’t need to be so extreme and absolute about every freaking thing out there.
As far as some Christians believing in geocentrocity, it is a fact. Ever hear of the Institute for Creation Research http://www.icr.org/? They believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible, which clearly says that we live in a geocentric system. They also are trying to twist science to prove that Noah’s flood actually happened. I’m not making this up. I read a transcript of a debate between ICR ‘experts’ and a Geologist that is very horrifying. And it wasn’t the only one I saw. And there are people who follow a strict interpretation of the Bible even though it can easily be refuted.
There is a study (a friend had sent me the link) to an article that showed 1 out of 5 people believe the sun revolves around the earth. It did not say whether or not they were Christians or not. Neither did I. The study said “people”, and I said “people”, not Christians. So quit trying to read something that is not there.
In fact, today, Hitler came up in a discussion. They are studying WWII, I think. Someone said that he was Jewish. I explained that he chose to be a Catholic, but that just as the terrorists in 9/11 were fanatics that don’t represent the religion of Islam as a whole, neither was Hitler representative of Christianity. That his religion wasn’t his undoing – it was his upbringing. And that if they wanted to know more, because it was a controversial subject, that they should ask their parents and do some internet research to find out more.
So don’t label me. No matter how much you need to.

Yes, but no. Not the way you explain it in the next paragraph. You are in rebellion. “Organized Religion” is just a scapegoat for the guilt you feel because you want to do it your way. Sex that is.
But even then, I understand that a majority of this country believes in invisible idols and fairytales because of a book called the Bible, and something even more influential called cultural indoctrination by parents.
See what I mean? Religion to you is belief in invisible ddols and fairytales. End of story.

Dear girl, I have defined my spirituality for myself within the bounds of the gift I’ve been given. I say myself but in fact I think I had some help because I really wanted to know and I went to the trouble to go to the source and ask. You are talking to a man that has been answered. It’s just the way it is. I could elaborate but to what end? Ridicule of course. Sorry, can’t be more explicit. Correction, I can but don’t want to be.

Geocenricity is not what you think it is. You misunderstand. I am a Geocentrisitist but I don’t think the physical universe revolves around this planet. I do think that the spiritual universe is centered on this planet. In fact, I can give you the coordinates.
31° 47′ N 35° 13′ E.
They also are trying to twist science to prove that Noah’s flood actually happened. I’m not making this up. I’m not a geologist, I’m a theist. I believe that the Bible is literally true with the exceptions that are readily discernable. For example the Bible gives an illustration of God covering Israel with His wings. I know that God does not have wings just as I know that when the Bible speaks of the four corners of the world it is not speaking of a flat earth. It takes a Christian to understand the difference between literal and literary. I can do that. I believe that the flood was not a literary contrivance. I see no reason to believe it was not an actual event. God doesn’t have to deal in literal transparencies, He is God and can make happen those things that are necessary for our conversion and survival. If God is love and loves us He doesn’t screw around with fairy tales. So far science has only conceded His points.
With a little cheesecake I can be persuaded to elaborate.
There is a study (a friend had sent me the link) to an article that showed 1 out of 5 people believe the sun revolves around the earth. It did not say whether or not they were Christians or not. Neither did I. The study said “peopleâ€, and I said “peopleâ€, not Christians. So quit trying to read something that is not there.
One out of five? I doubt that there are that many but whatever. The World is a content reminder to me of how idiotic is mankind.
In fact, today, Hitler came up in a discussion. They are studying WWII, I think. Someone said that he was Jewish.
That was Marx. As a teacher you need to be able to squash this nonsense.
I explained that he chose to be a Catholic, but that just as the terrorists in 9/11 were fanatics that don’t represent the religion of Islam as a whole, neither was Hitler representative of Christianity.
That’s awfully white of you to say so. I would have said that Hitler used Christianity to dupe his Roman and Protestant congregate to believe a lie. (that lie can fill a book and has in fact filled several books) Given enough Prozac and bourbon I can make a loser believe almost anything and Hitler was a demon possessed madman and even better at it than I.
That his religion wasn’t his undoing – it was his upbringing.
Nonsense. His upbringing had nothing to do with Christianity and everything to do with Marx, Neiche, Hegel, Darwin and Freud. Hitler was a product of the product of the Enlightment.
And that if they wanted to know more, because it was a controversial subject, that they should ask their parents and do some internet research to find out more.
So don’t label me. No matter how much you need to.
Never mind the label. I’d just like to nail you. Forgive me for that. In my defense I think it would make you a better teacher.

You finally said something that was coherent, intelligent and not even remotely condescending or irritating. And I like that side of you. You’re funny, interesting, and as I keep telling you, a nice person underneath all the barbed wire. So I don’t agree with your spiritual or political beliefs, but I can respect them when you respect me enough to talk to me like a human being.
So, just when I’m thinking we’re actually having a conversation as adults, you go and pee all over it with this remark. If you don’t want to talk to me, then don’t. It’s like you said that if Judd asked you to leave, you would go – no fuss. Same here. If you’re trying to offend me to get me to stop talking to you, it’s not necessary. Just tell me, and I’ll leave you alone.
