Alberto Gonzales was asked today by Sen. Dianne Feinstein whether President Bush had the authority to engage in illegal covert propaganda within the United States. Gonzales stonewalled. Watch it:
FEINSTEIN: Can the president suspend, in secret or otherwise, the application of Section 503 of the National Security Act, which states that no covert action may be conducted which is intended to influence United States political processes, public opinion, policies or media? In other words, can he engage in otherwise illegal propaganda?
GONZALES: Senator, this will probably be my response to all of your questions of these kind of hypotheticals. Questions as to whether or not — can Congress pass a statute that is in tension with the President’s constitutional authority? Those are very, very difficult questions, and for me to answer those questions sort of off the cuff, I think would not be responsible.
Gonzales’ stonewalling is part of a trend. Top Bush officials have refused to publicly answer several critical questions about the warrantless domestic spying program, including whether the program has targeted journalists or political opponents.
Full transcript below:
FEINSTEIN: I just want to ask some others. If you don’t want to answer, then don’t answer them. Can the President suspend the application of the Posse Comitatus Act?
GONZALES: Of course, Senator, that is not what is at issue here. This is not about law enforcement, this is about foreign intelligence –
FEINSTEIN: I understand. I’m asking the questions. You choose not to answer it?
GONZALES: Yes, ma’am.
FEINSTEIN: Okay. Can the president suspend, in secret or otherwise, the application of Section 503 of the National Security Act, which states that no covert action may be conducted which is intended to influence United States political processes, public opinion, policies or media? In other words, can he engage in otherwise illegal propaganda?
GONZALES: Senator, this will probably be my response to all of your questions of these kind of hypotheticals. Questions as to whether or not — can Congress pass a statute that is in tension with the President’s constitutional authority? Those are very, very difficult questions, and for me to answer those questions sort of off the cuff, I think would not be responsible. I think that, again —
FEINSTEIN: Okay, that’s fine. I don’t want to argue with you. All I’m trying to say is, this is a slippery slope. Once you do one, there are a whole series of actions that can be taken and I suspect the temptations to take them are very great. And we are either a nation that practices our rule of law or we’re not.

This guy is so full of bullshit it is unbelievable. Their whole campaign is nothing but propaganda.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:25 pmThe admin is not used to being asked “difficult” questions, and have become so arrogant, the very miniscule amount of times a “difficult” question can be asked, they didn’t even bother being prepared for it.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:28 pmIs Gonzo stumping for Supreme Court? These kinds of answers sound like they came from John Roberts mouth.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:28 pmoff the cuff? are there any circumstances under which you can answer a question?
February 6th, 2006 at 3:28 pmShe also just stated she felt the program is much bigger than they lead on. This is what is really on everyone’s minds.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:29 pmThe hearings are trending towards Bush bypassing congress out of fear of being struck down. There is a clear pattern here on both sides that lead to Gonzales admitting as much.
Even the Republicans are trying the “sympathy” approach that FISA is too restrictive. Is that wise? Does this not finger Bush as a criminal????????????????????????????????
February 6th, 2006 at 3:30 pmThe truth slips out Gonzo tells why they don’t want to go to FISA in the domestic survailance program, because the FISA judge has the right to notify the “target” of the survailance that they were under being tapped, and Gonzo Et Al don’t all the american citizens to know their calls are being listened to
February 6th, 2006 at 3:32 pmWow, it is nice to see Gonzales get ripped up and down from bosth sides of the aisle.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:33 pmDoes this not finger Bush as a criminal????????????????????????????????
Comment by Gus, the Loving OBGYN
Hey Gus,
February 6th, 2006 at 3:34 pmwatch that language….getting a little racy there…
Feinstein is too soft. She just roles over for the lying scum bag.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:35 pmWell, you know, when you’re a Loving OBGYN it cums naturally.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:35 pmGonzales is getting a taste of what Scotty M does all the time: defending the indefensible through obscurity.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:36 pmFEINSTEIN:And we are either a nation that practices our rule of law or we’re not.
Again it doesn’t take long to say the truth.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:36 pmcalifornia_reality_check,
February 6th, 2006 at 3:37 pmCorrect. This morning Gonzo said Bush’s remarks about “still needing wiretaps” were taken out of context. She just said “fair enough” and let it go.
Speaking of scottie he made the mistake of thinking he was smarter than Helen Thomas again
February 6th, 2006 at 3:39 pmI don’t know why the Dems even sat there asking question to the Attorney General who as a Bush corny wrote the reasons why Bush could do this and is not under oath. If the Repugs want this to be just a photo-op to say they did something the Dems should have made this real news and walked out after a nice little speech. Basically take the other groups ball and go home.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:40 pmIf avoiding any personal responsibility, confusing people away from the truth, using excuses, and being more concerned with self preservation is the job, then
HECKAVA JOB GONZO!
These boys knew all this would be questioned, they don’t care, they know they can get out of it.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:44 pmThe propaganda question is pretty hard core after thinking about it. Because that’s what these guys are doing. Institutionalized propaganda.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:44 pm“don’t want to answer off the cuff.” wtf?!?! wasn’t that the purpose of these hearings - to get the administration to answer these questions?
this shows the continued hubris of this administration and the contempt they not only show Congress, but the american people.
when i ask people to be prepared to answer some questions i expect them to answer them - fully and honestly. considering that this nation’s highest law enforcement official is NOT sworn in before testifying and then continues this stonewalling shows that this administration considers itself above the law.
welcome to fascist amerika.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:44 pmFeingold is asking a similar question about if Bush ignored any other statutes…
February 6th, 2006 at 3:45 pm#2 they are actually extremely used to it and have perfected the no reply answer. They are all masters of not answering ever.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:51 pmLMAO
Shumer:
“I know its been a long day Mr. Gonzalez. I know you must be tired with all that bobbing and weaving going on”
February 6th, 2006 at 3:54 pmAlberto Gonzales just admitted that the government has broken into the homes of United States citizens without a warrent! He “said” this by refusing to answer Schumers question about if they had entered homes without warrents. This is MAJOR!
February 6th, 2006 at 3:57 pmI guess Senator Feinstein didn’t know that Walter Dellenger (from the Clinton administration) supported the decision before he didn’t - it would have saved her the embarrassment of looking like the non-lawyer she is. compassionate people everywhere feel her pain as she attempts to look like she belongs on the Judiciary Committee.
February 6th, 2006 at 3:59 pmI think that was can rule out the spying on political opponents…because there is nothing to spy on. Let’s cut to the chase an let the supreme court decide the matter.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:02 pm#25 Yeah thats a good idea, now that Bush has everyone on the court that will give him all the power he needs. BRILLIANT IDEA.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:04 pmdumb shit ma. How many times do we have to point out you are lying about Walter Dellenger? Why don’t you try reading ThinkProgress’s Saturday thread?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:07 pmTracy, why did they try to amend FISA in July of 02?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:12 pmWow, it is nice to see Gonzales get ripped up and down from bosth sides of the aisle.
Or are they simply being polite and smiling at each other and waving at the camera? Being ripped up one side and down the other would lead to the arrest and trial of George W. Bush. Are we there yet?
Alberto Gonzales just admitted that the government has broken into the homes of United States citizens without a warrent! He “said†this by refusing to answer Schumers question about if they had entered homes without warrents. This is MAJOR!
Out on the Left Coast, didn’t some one get fingered for the Spain train bombings? Was the house entered without warrant? Wasn’t he innocent? I remember reading somewhere that his home was entered and computer files removed. Anyone out in Portland, OR know the details?
Yes. This is major. This is seriously major. What are we going to do about it? The ReichWingNuts seem incapable of policing their own. So who’s going to do it?
Keep the pressure on. Call/write/visit your “elected” officials. Daily, if at all possible.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:13 pmIt is very alarming that not only would he refuse to say whether the President was using government power to influence internal politics, but that Gonzales would characterize the relevant statute as being “in tension” with the President’s inherent constitutional power. Inherent constitional power to fix elections?
IS ANYONE PAYING ATTENTION!!? JESUS CHRIST!
February 6th, 2006 at 4:13 pmGonzo sounds like he is pleading the 5th. I remember this kind of stonewalling during the Mafia hearings of the 60’s.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:13 pmTook a while for the trollin to start today, what happened the paychecks were late?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:13 pmThings changed after 9/11. All those freedoms we kept during WWI, WWII, Korea etc. had to go because we live in a different world now, one where you’re either with us or against us. Stick that in your freedom pipe and smoke it.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:14 pmit would have saved her the embarrassment of looking like the non-lawyer she is. compassionate people everywhere feel her pain as she attempts to look like she belongs on the Judiciary Committee.

And I’m sure you’ll give us your legal credentials, less risk looking like a hypocrite.
By the way, regarding the Dellinger assertion above: Can you provide the link (i.e. non-partisan proof; specifically, don’t link to some PR url)? Make sure that it’s specific to the issue at hand, meaning the usurpation of the FISA Court. Not some out-of-context generalization.
No? I thought so. Now go play quietly in the sandbox.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:15 pmJESUS CHRIST!
Yes? You called?
Indeed, Gonzo is part of the Mafia. BushCo are the Mafia For A New American Century!
February 6th, 2006 at 4:16 pmDoesn’t his answer that he they won’t be spying on political enemies bust his argument that he can’t discuss ‘operational’ aspects of the program?
We hear all the time from the trolls that Dems are traitors, so it certainly would seem to be under the purview of this program.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:16 pmBrit_Spume - I hope that is sarcasm?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:16 pmthis from lew rockwell
http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig3/eddlem8.html
I’ve got no problem with tapping the calls of people who are al Qaeda, and Congress authorized the President to do this under the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). All that Bush has to do is follow the same Constitution he swore an oath to “preserve, protect and defend” by seeking a warrant. There’s even an emergency provision in FISA that lets the President tap a phone call before getting a warrant, which is similar to the common law doctrine of “hot pursuit” with regard to warrants. If all the President has to do is get a warrant within 72 hours after conducting the phone tap, it doesn’t slow down the NSA one bit to get the warrant.
Unless, of course, the NSA request for a warrant would be denied by the courts. And that’s where it becomes interesting. The constitutional standard for issuing a search warrant is defined by the fourth amendment, which states:
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
February 6th, 2006 at 4:18 pmEvery Right Winger is paid to be here, what else would compel these folks to fight an uphill battle (by an uphill battle, I mean no one is going to agree with you), constantly get berated, debunked. Trolls never make progress here in “changing” anyone’s minds. So what’s the motivation? Absolutly no discernable reinforcement, other than getting paid to do it. Only mentally ill people keep doing the same thing over and over, and expect different results. So the Right wingers are either mentally ill, or get paid to post here.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:18 pm#29, JC, here’s a link to an article about the attorney in Portland, OR who was falsely accused of terrorism:
Lawyer Falsely Accused of Terrorism Sues FBI
February 6th, 2006 at 4:19 pmHow much do you get paid Aphrodite, Blue state Red, IRI?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:20 pmFor Truth, perhaps its both??????
February 6th, 2006 at 4:20 pmAmy, the link does not work.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:22 pmOh please what a waste of time… spying on the terrorist is now illegal? Yawn, this scandal will go by the wayside like all the other cooked up schemes. The whole thing is silly. A special court can give the approval and then it is ok for the President to spy on American citizens. It’s like having to ask your parents for authorization to call 9-11 if there is a fire in your house.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:22 pm#41 don’t know about the pay but their kneepads had better be issued or their are losing money
February 6th, 2006 at 4:22 pmHere’s an image everyone can relate to:
It’s like when the butler in the Sound of Music
brings his pin out from under his lapel and pins
it where everyone can see it.
Chilling, souring, and gratify to at last know the truth.
Gonzales does NOT believer in U.S. democracy.

Sounds just like gary ruppert.
And bush is a Lawyer? Once again Gary pulls the trigger shooting off yet another toe…
February 6th, 2006 at 4:23 pmSo MAD
If Bush isnt a Lawyer,as Feinstein is, why is Bush interpreting, what the republican congress passed, with signings?
If Bush isnt a Lawyer, then he shouldnt be Interpreting these Bills thru signings.
is that What you are Saying MAD Gary?
The exchange is almost surreral.
Sen. Feinstein asked: “Can the president suspend, in secret or otherwise, the application of Section 503 of the National Security Act(…)?”
Gonzalez’ translation: “can Congress pass a statute that is in tension with the President’s constitutional authority?”
What do Bush & Co think are the limits to the President’s authority? Are there any?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:24 pmThey don’t have to pay me to disseminate the truth to you traitorous liberals. I mean, as those little yellow ribbons on the back of patriots’ cars say, “freedom isn’t free”.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:24 pmHey Brit_Spume, have you served in the military?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:25 pm#44
How much do you get paid to post? Folks of your likes never change anyone’s minds, are against of sea of disagreement. So either you are just taking your first try at it, and will go away, or you are getting paid, which is it?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:25 pmIt’s spin the wheel of fortune with the constitution. Hey don’t like a statue well just spin the wheel back to whatever Federalist conflict suits ya. They are the party of Lincoln aren’t they. We all know what Lincoln did to solidify the power of the central government. Why aren’t the fiscal conservatives outraged by this Administration’s troughing of the national buffet. Oh the complexity of the enemy has infiltrated our soul. No quite frankly, every single loop hole for a terrorist is my gem of freedom. I think the leadership of this country has been coopted by a lust for power that negates all the freedoms it thinks it owns.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:26 pm#43 Sorry about that…

Yeah Nixon Said the Same thing,,,
February 6th, 2006 at 4:28 pmBesides that you are not speaking Law, but Opinion.
Heres the Law;
~~~~~~
An emergency provision in FISA that lets the President tap a phone call before getting a warrant, which is similar to the common law doctrine of “hot pursuit†with regard to warrants. If all the President has to do is get a warrant within 72 hours after conducting the phone tap, it doesn’t slow down the NSA one bit to get the warrant.
~~~~
Bush could have used this, but he didnt.
And then he ADMITTED to it.
Breaking the Law is now just a Scandal?
If someone broke into your house and stole your private papers, would you call the Police, or just write it off as a Silly Scandal?
If the President broke the law, then he needs to be held accountable.
The President took an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution, not spit on it.
We need to send a message to Americans and future Presidents, that no man or woman, is above the law.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:28 pmI didn’t serve in the military like our heroic president did.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:28 pm#44
February 6th, 2006 at 4:29 pmAre you comparing our President to a child?
#49,
You have never succeeded in changing anyone’s mind, we all disagree with you, you never “get anywhere”. If you weren’t getting some kind of reinforcement, you would stop. The term is called extiction, when a behavior is no longer reinforced, it stops. So your reinforcement is either money, a passive-aggressive need to feel like you are upsetting people, or just some kind of attention.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:29 pm#44 totally misses the point.
Check’s and balances are one of the reasons this system of Gov’t works. The Administration seems to think otherwise.
If only the current Congress had any back bone, this would be less of a problem, but Congress is made up of a majority that want to just be a rubber stamp, nothing more.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:30 pmSecondly and Most Importantly, even though bush started the Taps, that then means he NEVER filed the proper Applications during or after the 72 hour period.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:30 pmAnother try…
February 6th, 2006 at 4:30 pmAmy, I copied what you posted into google and got the page.

February 6th, 2006 at 4:37 pm#59
February 6th, 2006 at 4:37 pmRightly said and when I hear Gonzo say that there are statutes that are in tension with the President “percieved” authority I get a chill. I mean the three branches are in tension with each other. Checks and balances were not set up to be cordial, nice and warm and fuzzy. They are there to prevent any one branch of usurping power over the others. There is supposed to be tension. They just want all of the tension (aka - other branches) to go away.
Brit - I am not surprised….. Almost EVERY Republican that has an attitude like yours has never served. You guys sure are good at playing armchair soldier and wanting other people to fight for your freedoms, but you are too chicken to fight for them yourselves.
Also, your Heoric statement is a JOKE. He is not only a discrase as a president, but also as a soldier (using this word loosly). He was a drunk, and druggie. He was AWOL and only got out of being court martialed because of his father.
Yeah! He’s a winner!!!!!
February 6th, 2006 at 4:38 pmOur heroic president served with distinction in the Texas Air National Guard. He flew jets and stuff. He kept our nation safe from people who hate our freedoms.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:38 pmSpume,
So what’s your reinforcement if your not getting paid, no-one buys into your “truth”, you aren’t changing any minds here, what’s your motivation?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:38 pmOh yeh I got your Number Brit Spume.
You want to abolish the Constitution dont ypu?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:40 pmYeh well go back to england, America fought against that type of Oppression 200 years ago.
Spume,
Haven’t you figured out that you are ineffective here? You are effective at showing us how much of a glass stomach you have. The ineffective posting you do goes no-where, wouldn’t you be much happier amongst people who agree with you? Actually I don’t think you are getting paid, you sound too stupid to be worth the money. Your just a lunatic.

WOW a Hero!! He flew Jets. Well Duhh Alot of people fly jets..
and the 911 attack happened UNDER BUSH watch.
not to mention he IGNORED the Able Danger intelligence whom had found the Terror Cells. How is that PROTECTING America?
You are going to have to do better than that. Your argument has no validity. Brit Swallow Spume
February 6th, 2006 at 4:43 pmIt’s like having to ask your parents for authorization to call 9-11 if there is a fire in your house.
So says MWS. I’m sorry if the constitution is demeaning for you, MWS. But our forefathers made the considered judgment that you can’t trust the executive to police itself so, yes, they have to ask an independent branch of government before they take certain actions. You got a problem with that? Perhaps you’d prefer a monarchy. Check back with your position when a Democrat is back in office.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:44 pmSpume,
Bush was arrested for posession of Cocaine during his “heroic” service in 1972, went to a Christian fundalmentalist rehab in SanDiego, and then completed community service. This explains the famous “gap” in his service record. That’s real heroic.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:44 pmBush signed up for a six year Stint with the Guard Brit swallow spume.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:46 pmHe DIDNT even fulfill that PROMISE.
He bailed out, and never fulfilled his 6 year tour of duty.
Sure He went to college, but that still doesnt change the Fact.
He Bailed out of the Guard, to save himself, and not America
Spume is definatley not paid, he’s too stupid. The paid ones are a little brighter like IRI, Aphrodite, and Blue State Red. The paid ones don’t have sophomoric names like Brit Spume.

February 6th, 2006 at 4:50 pmHow much you get paid Tracy? And if your not paid, lack of any other reinforcement will cause you to leave.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:52 pmMR HO use too big of word for Spume.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:52 pm#81 - Excuse me!!!!! There will be no interpreting of the constitution, it will be all political views. Thats EXACLTY what Alito does.
He has largely sided with Big Business and the Government, despite the fact he was on the minority side of the decission. 10 - 1, I would call deciding by injecting personal political views.

February 6th, 2006 at 4:57 pmSpume,
You still proved my point dipshit, those ribbons are made in another country. Did you go outside and check?
February 6th, 2006 at 4:58 pm#89 - Yeah and the support sweat shops in common wealth coutries.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:58 pmSpume
Hyundai is one of the worst made cars you could buy, another indicator of how dumb you are.

February 6th, 2006 at 4:59 pmTracy and spume should get some vaseline and go back in the closet, they would finally get some satisfaction ,and we’d all feel better for it.

February 6th, 2006 at 5:06 pmYou guys should try pretending to be a right winger sometime. It makes one’s brain hurt.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:06 pmTracy out of the closet again?
February 6th, 2006 at 5:07 pmNarrow minded Spumey,
The point was made, the ribbons are made in another country, I too drive a foreign vehicle, the one that is set to overtake GM as the leading automobile make in the world, would you know what I am talking about? By the way GM gets all of it’s steel from Japan, wiring harnesses from Taiwan and China, very little of that automobile is “made” in this country. And the maker of my truck, assembled it here in this country, using American labor.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:09 pmTacy, you are paid, that’s the point.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:11 pmTracy,
The progressives that post here get reinforcement from the community, no need to get money for reinforcement. You on the other hand, have no reinforcement other than negative attention and getting paid.

February 6th, 2006 at 5:16 pm#Technically since he is comander in chief now, bush is serving. Now lets pray he goes AWOL again.
Comment by Mark — February 6, 2006 @ 5:05 pm
This brings up an interesting tidbit. Thru executive orders Bush has signed away most of His Coomander responsibility for IRAQ. No wonder he can spend so much time at the ‘RANCH’ and the Golf Course.

Are you trying to suggest that there are more liberals serving in the military that conservatives? We have all seen that theory proven false in this very blog.

I’m not trying to say it! I am saying it! I have yet to find 1 of the trolls that come here, and only about 10% of the Republicans I speak with, that have served in the military.
So yes!
February 6th, 2006 at 5:28 pmIt really is amazing how many of the chickenhawks who bang the war drums so loudly never served in the military–or if they did, they got all coked up and went AWOL like the Chimp in Chief (even after getting placed into the champagne TANG unit by Poppy).
February 6th, 2006 at 5:40 pmWal Mart allowed it to happen, nice try.

Technically true, but WalMart executives were aware that many of the people cleaning the stores were illegal, undocumented immigrants -hence making WalMart responsible for breaking US immigration and labour laws. Here are some links:

WalMart ended up paying close to $11 million to settle the case.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:43 pm#110 - Dear Ho - Learn to read - and if necessary utilize remedial assitance. THEEEEEN, look at the legal arguments presented by then Assistant Solicitor General Walter Dellinger. I would say your “concise” (ahem!!) analysis leads me to believe that you would need a flashlight to find an argument.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:46 pmTracy,
If you are not getting paid, which I can believe (maybe), then what keeps you posting? You just like to argue? Because you won’t be changing any minds here. Everyone will disagree (besides the other paid Repubs), you won’t get anywhere. So maybe the attention you are getting (even if its negative), keeps you posting? People don’t continue any behavior if there is no reinforcement, (unless they are mentally ill). I don’t think you are mentally ill. So you must like to ruffle feathers, or think you can actually change a mind or two.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:53 pmWe all know Mighty gets paid.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:54 pmYes you do don’t lie
February 6th, 2006 at 5:54 pmThe fact that the opposition gets paid to post here says a lot. The Repub Party is threatened by this blog, no one else with half a brain would do it for free. Money is their real God.

“…and only about 10% of the Republicans I speak with”
You obviously don’t speak to many CONSERVATIVES. My brother is in the Airforce (AWACS out of Tinker AFB) and I have friends in the Army (1st Calvary, Ft. Hood) and they say the vast majority of the military is conservative. Those who have REINLISTED since 9/11 somehow I don’t think are liberal, i.e. care much for the current administration’s policies.
http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=012005X
If you have some evidence that the U.S. military, i.e. the personnel is mostly liberal, then by all means present some evidence.

Someone else already pointed this out to you, but clearly you need reminding. This was the topic of another thread here at Think Progress: The Dellinger Myth
Your argument falls flat because the Bush administration hasn’t said FISA is unconstitutional.
February 6th, 2006 at 6:08 pmTracy, I called you out.
February 6th, 2006 at 6:15 pmThis thread is drifting into a feud, couldn’t we discuss something less controversal like Islamic vs. Orthodox Jewish pork recipes?
February 6th, 2006 at 6:23 pm#120
From what I see in this blog the only thing that is here is a forum dedicated to bashing the current administration and conservatives in general. Not much in the way here of discussing solutions to current political, economic, or foreign problems, just a alot of “venting”. I post here to test my conservative views and learn what the opposition is up to and how they think…or don’t.

February 6th, 2006 at 6:48 pm“You obviously don’t speak to many CONSERVATIVES.”
I guess if you consider me hanging around people who don’t think, then I guess your right I don’t speak to many CONSERVATIVES.
“My brother is in the Airforce (AWACS out of Tinker AFB) and I have friends in the Army (1st Calvary, Ft. Hood)”
Good, glad to hear that some in your party has some balls.
” and they say the vast majority of the military is conservative.”
This I find difficult to believe.
“Those who have REINLISTED since 9/11 somehow I don’t think are liberal, i.e. care much for the current administration’s policies.”
That would be because those people can think for themselves and know when they are being lied to. Don’t get mad at someone because they are smart enough to see that they are being dubpt.
http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=012005X
I see that this is written by a conservative, so how objective is this?
“If you have some evidence that the U.S. military, i.e. the personnel is mostly liberal, then by all means present some evidence.”
I don’t have any, nor do I have the time to look for it. I am telling you from my time in the military and from what I currently see from our GREAT leaders.
February 6th, 2006 at 7:00 pm[…] Think Progress Gonzales Refuses to Answer Whether Bush Can Authorize Illegal Covert Domestic Propaganda […]
February 6th, 2006 at 10:26 pmGonzales is supposed to be an attorney, who knows the law? Who is supposed to defend out laws and Constitution? And he gives this brain dead answer to Congress? Talk about arrogance… they are likely laughing at Americans as we speak… preparing for the next illegal step as most Americans sleep away their freedoms.
What will it take to wake this country up?
February 7th, 2006 at 2:14 amI’ve said it many times before–there’s nothing “conservative” about today’s war-mongering, deficit-building, money-funneling, civil rights-robbing neocons. Dwight Eisenhower was conservative; the modern republican war machine is radical rightwing demagoguery at its worst.

“I guess if you consider me hanging around people who don’t think….”
We think, it’s just that we don’t let our emotions rule our brains.
“That would be because those people can think for themselves and know when they are being lied to.”
“I don’t have any, nor do I have the time to look for it.”
Nor could you find any even if you took the time.
So those soldiers that are currently fighting in Iraq are dumb and can’t think for themselves? Why don’t you re-enlist and share your thoughts with some of those soldiers that DID re-enlist. I am sure they would like to have a human pinata to relief their stress. “We support the troops but not the policy”….what bunch of liars!
“Good, glad to hear that some in your party has some balls.”
The Democrats have no balls…they can’t even stand for what they believe, i.e. their liberal view points and their not even in harms way. This is but ONE reason they can’t win elections in the U.S..
“I am telling you from my time in the military…”
Must have been hanging out with all the pencil pushers.

February 7th, 2006 at 1:22 pmOh please what a waste of time… spying on the terrorist is now illegal? Yawn, this scandal will go by the wayside like all the other cooked up schemes. The whole thing is silly. A special court can give the approval and then it is ok for the President to spy on American citizens. It’s like having to ask your parents for authorization to call 9-11 if there is a fire in your house.
The only requirement to bypass FISA is that the search be reasonable. All would have to agree that al-queda/suspected terrorist WOULD fall into that requirement. All other discussion is conjecture, opinion and partisan B.S..
