Why bother having hearings? Bush has made Congress irrelevant. They can all pack up and go home. We have our King and he is Bush. All peaceful resistance is useless.
We can save ven more money by getting rid of Congress and the Courts. Then pour that money into Halliburton. Yeah! I’m buying more stock today!
Andy
P.S. Gary Ruppert is a complete wanker.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Attorney General. I forgot you can’t answer any questions that might be relevant…†– Sen. Pat Leahy, 2/6/06
I hope the msm picked up this one statement.
Perhaps you can answer just what is the purpose of these hearings?
Don’t you think that answering relevant questions is the purpose of any congressional hearing?
So what the **** is your problem? The Attorturer General has said that he can’t answer these questions, so why did he even bother turning up if he was just going to waste people’s time?
Gonzalez also refused to answer the question as to whether any of the people identified as terrorists under the surveillance program were arrested. That to me, means “Nope.”
Sen Leahy all but caught AG Gonzalez in a lie regarding the conceptual start up of the program and Gonzales’ signing off on the operation versus senate information. In that during his confirmation hearings he rested in a hypothetical situation that just 90 days or so was brought to light to the senate through the news media and not through the AG.
Leahy, (And I paraphrase)”It’s a shame that we have to find out from the news media, information that you should be disclosing.”
props to Paddy Leahy for pretty much summing up all of the hearings on that committee… Alito didn’t say anything of substance either… it’s all a formality, when your party is in power…
if you look thru the web logs which are posting on the gonzales hearings from the democratic perspective, you will discover that virtually each one has been attacked almost immediately by a radical repug.
the object, i assume, is to disrupt normal “conversation” on this site and the others.
my advice to commenters is to ignore these provocations. they may be a great way to discharge frustration, but they harm thoughtful discussion.
Gary gets paid to post here, yeah real passion for his cause. Go ahead Gary deny you get paid. I will then call you out and you will have to ignore me.
After watching Leahy today, I’m thinking of moving to Vermont!
Did anyone else catch the irony of the mention of Coretta Scott King’s funeral? Since her husband was the target of one of the most viscious wiretap campaigns in US history?
#29, BTW if you want to use protected speech that’s hateful against any group , sorry to say it’s limited to obese folks. Speedcy Gonzalez is beyond condescending and accross the border, you mean into oklahoma? Tp does not tolerate racial or ethnic slander and you’ll find you will become a shunned parasite if you care to participate with that flavor of comments.
Wow, that sums it up.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:26 pmThe left is just whiny that their lynchmob is being thwarted here.

The MSM has forgotten how to pick up anything except payoffs.

February 6th, 2006 at 4:40 pmPlus the Man took the “Oath of Equivocation” before the hearing..
February 6th, 2006 at 4:41 pmGonzalez also refused to answer the question as to whether any of the people identified as terrorists under the surveillance program were arrested. That to me, means “Nope.”

February 6th, 2006 at 4:42 pmOMFGod! Did he really say that?
Leahy rocks!!!

February 6th, 2006 at 4:52 pmYou just like I-RIGHT-I and Chase must not be watching the same hearings as everybody else, you guys look pretty freaking bad right about now.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:52 pmdouble true!
February 6th, 2006 at 4:56 pm#14 I know right? Just like the prez, they say just any old thing hoping someone (more likely themselves) will believe it. HA, they have much work.
February 6th, 2006 at 4:57 pmprops to Paddy Leahy for pretty much summing up all of the hearings on that committee… Alito didn’t say anything of substance either… it’s all a formality, when your party is in power…

February 6th, 2006 at 5:14 pmBy “Thwarted” I guess you mean “Stonewalled”.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:15 pmLock and load. Full metal jacket. Apocalypse now.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:22 pmGonzo is so good at stonewalling we might as well call him the “Mason General” of the United States. These guys are way too secretive.
Nixon, Now more than ever.
February 6th, 2006 at 5:23 pm#22 Good one, Hardy!
February 6th, 2006 at 5:33 pmLeahy’s comment only underscores the futility of this hearing.

February 6th, 2006 at 6:00 pmWell at least we can take comfort in knowing the Right Wingers have to waste money paying people to try to disrupt these types of blogs, all in vein.
February 6th, 2006 at 6:03 pmRight WIngers won’t do anything unless it involves some sort of payoff.
February 6th, 2006 at 6:04 pmAfter watching Leahy today, I’m thinking of moving to Vermont!
February 6th, 2006 at 6:12 pmDid anyone else catch the irony of the mention of Coretta Scott King’s funeral? Since her husband was the target of one of the most viscious wiretap campaigns in US history?
Damn! When did Leahy learn “street smack”? – cause he just pimp slapped Speedy Gonzales all the way back across the border!!!
February 6th, 2006 at 7:39 pmI wonder does mr. gonzalez ever wonders what the president says about him when he’s not around-wiretapping wouldn’t be such a bad idea in that case.
February 6th, 2006 at 8:50 pmah, good times. anyone watching it on C-SPAN was greeted with a nice long shot of Gonzales’ face the split second after Leahy said this.
is it just me, or is virtually every blog & news site commenting on how this was some sort of Bush win? did they watch the same hearings i did?
