Ok, so Abramoff met Bush at the White House and perhaps at Crawford. And, this implicates/connects GW with the Abramoff's scandal. But, what I want to know is how "chummy" were they? You know, did they make-out? Well, dammit, who knows? With people like Jeff Gannon in the White House who knows what the former cheerleader is up to?

#95, I forget where I saw this, but the White House early on decided on a definite policy regarding scandals: to deny deny, deny, lie if necessary, but never, never admit fault.

Bush should have tackled it head on: “Yeah, Jack’s a friend of mine. I’m very disappointed with his actions with regard to Indian tribes and unethical lobbying, which I condemn.”

Pete,

I guess there's something about being in the seat of power that "intoxicates" the powerful...

...so much so that it makes them believe they can get away with pretty much anything...

...but as far as bushiva is concerned...

Remember his infamous, "Fool me once..." blunder?

...well this moron NEVER learns...

...one would've thought he would've remembered what happened with the 'Kenny Boy' Lay denial...

...Oh crap! That's right NOTHING happened, they just swept IT under the rug too...

TtT, I like your list, particularly doing away with the electoral college (Wayne and I have talked about that for years.) I've been thinking about this recently, and would like to see campaign funding come from, say, only registered voters, or somehow through the donation from your income tax. I've got a few other ideas, but this would not be the appropriate thread, right, Judd?

#20. Eureka!

A highjacker with explosives in his shoes would use the additional force to FORTIFY the tons and tons of explosives provided by plane fuel to do extra building damage! (satire).

In reality the story is, at best, loosely tenable and announced at the most effective time to say. "See???!!!! Our efforts are protecting you."

In response to the admininstration: Go ahead and monitor terrorists, but either follow the laws (FISA) or challenge the law to make oversight more efficient: Either way, provide for the oversight required by the 4th admendment when American citizens are involved. We trust you, but....ONLY AS FAR AS WE CAN VERIFY (i.e. throw you) that you are not using spying for political advantage or unrelated to Al Quaeda/ 9-11-01.

That is why oversight is being demanded by an increasing number of Republicans, too. It comes to a matter of trust. Most Americans now don't trust the Administration. Some that want to trust, but not without some verification or oversight (a reason the Constitution was written in the first place - to limit power).

Regarding the Abramoff connection: I can't wait for the other shoe(s) to drop. No need to comment, it'll all play out on its own.

Gentlemen,

Women,

It is all true:

See this particular link:

http://www.highvizpr.com/hubzone_military_project1

HighVizPR had projects such as these, and part of their job was to have the Tribal officials meet and greet top level officials at the Old Executive Office Building. Jack Abramoff had the meetings with George Bush.

Ok, I know this is off topic, but election reform was mentioned. My 2 cents:

1. Election day needs to be a national holiday
2. Instant runoff voting
http://www.instantrunoff.com/faq.asp

3. Non-partisan funded campaigning

Facing increasing pressure over his ties to convicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff, George W. Bush is doing what comes naturally: playing dumb. And why not? It worked for him with Ken Lay and the Valerie Plame leak.

For the details, see:

Spudge, please be aware that I am trying to say something humorous here, not wanting to offend. But I had pegged you as more of a "Clint Howard", than a "Tom Hanks". In that it would just not be right if "Clint" wasn't in the movie! It's tradition!!

Glue Factory,

Yes, "ignore the troll" sounds good on electrons, but If I would confront a person who is lying in person, why wouldn't I do it on the Internet. It is even more imprtant, as a conversation ends up blowing away in the wind and electrons stay on the Internet for a long time, or until George Bush needs to scrubs some images of himsefl yucking it up with a corrupt lobbiest.

See that, I got back on topic. Sweet.

Bush and Abramoff were chums, so for George to claim otherwise is one of his LIES! I think this whole episode proves that Dubya is incapable of telling the truth about anything, so he is unfit to remain as president!

#79, normally, I'd agree but how can you make your case sucessfully, if you can't parry and riposte the 'arguments' of the other side? And there are also some vile individuals who visit this site that need to be confronted whenever possible so that their views do not gain credence amongst the easily led.

Walt, the aim of 3. is to cut off the reason for the cash need to get off the ground - airtime. If your party gets say 5% of the vote locally in a local election, then your candidate gets to run his/her mouth in a 30 second spot and the station runs it as a public service, like the disaster warning alerts and so on...their needs to be an ombudsman to watch for the spots that the shifty ones run to get into ads and programming, but that's possible. No money needed for airtime, campaigns get infinitely cheaper, not as much money needed from donors.... well it probably won't happen as you say, there's too much vested interest. Like asking a lunatic to give back the keys to the asylum...

I hope you folks realize that at some point you are just kicking a dead horse. Gary Ruppert, all the trolls are dead, rotting horse corpses. By even acknowledging their presences and responding to them and their foul odors, you are in essence, kicking a dead horse. By ignoring them, you bury them, in silence and their own putrefication. Keep kicking the one half dead horse that counts but it ain't the trolls here. It's the clowns soon to be out of office.

TTT,
1 and 2 are crucial, 3 is doubtful plus 4 is dubious (and immaterial in 2006).

#69, I'm still trying to understand this post. I can't understand it, I'm not worthy. I have a few ideas:
1. Paper voting 100% hand counted
2. Exit polls carried out by the UN and elections verified by UN observers
3. Government mandated access to TV channels, no buying of airtime, only parties scoring significant % in local opinion polls get airtime
4. Disband the electoral college, go to direct voting for president.

There are some ideas, but then I'm not a Demo, so you can trash them now.
