BREAKING: First Abramoff/Bush Photo Published

In the picture, President Bush is talking with Chief Raul Garza of the Kickapoo tribe of southwest Texas. The New York Times, which published the photo, reports:

[The picture] leaves unanswered questions about how Mr. Abramoff and the tribal leader, whom he was trying to sign as a client, gained access to a meeting with the president on the White House grounds that was ostensibly for a group of state legislators who were supporting Mr. Bush’s 2001 tax cut plan.

The photo of Abramoff with Bush at a private meeting undermines White House claims that any meetings between the two occured at “widely attended” holiday parties. The White House has confirmed the picture’s authenticity.

UPDATE: Time Magazine has more details on the meeting:

Talking about the photo, Abramoff has told friends, “I was standing right next to the window and after the picture was taken, the President came over and shook hands with me, and we chatted and joked.” A photograph of that scene as described by Abramoff was shown to TIME two weeks ago.

The TIME article also features a color version of the photo where Karl Rove is visible. It leads with a discussion of the Abramoff email, first published by ThinkProgress.

    It’s a photoshop.

Look at the small size of Abramoff’s head. He would have to be next to the wall to even be close to being that small.

  8. Gary Ruppert says:

As well, if that were a real photo, then Abramoff would be the only one pictured to be smiling towards the camera.

If it were real, it’s still an incredibly petty way to make a link between Abramoff and Bush which has no basis in reality.

  9. california_reality_check says:

Wait a minute. He doesn’t know the man.

  10. katy says:

it’s called “perspective”…and he IS against the wall, next to the window…

by the way – the stench of an IRI is just below, at the prior thread…

i was at the Rev.Lowery thread earlier looking for a link and found it there also…along with a bunch of freepers adding their .2cents worth…thought that thread was long put to rest…must be a freepr reunion…

  11. TrueBlue says:

    Gary,
Your arguement has no basis in reality.
This goes right to the point of the LYING, and proves there are definate TIES here!!
    THAT’S Reality!

  12. Gary Ruppert says:

As well, isn’t this photo in the league of Hanoi John and Hanoi Jane being in the same crowd in the 1970s?

  13. ann says:

If it were real, it’s still an incredibly petty way to make a link between Abramoff and Bush which has no basis in reality.

No basis in reality? Abramoff was one of Bush’s “pioneers.” Bush knows all of the pioneers, all of the people who raised over 100K for his campaign.

Abramoff and Rove (you know, Bush’s brain?) go back 30 years. Abramoff and his staffed recorded over 200 contacts with the WH.

Even Abramoff has gone on record as knowing Bush. Frankly, I don’t care if there are pictures or not, it is clear that Bush knew him.

What has no basis in reality is your absurd belief that Bush doesn’t know Abramoff. That’s just wishful thinking.

  14. DS says:

Ruppert, your arguments in #5 & #9 make no sense. The quote from Abramoff was that he was standing next to the window, which is attached to the building by a wall, so he is next to the wall. Second, seems to me that everyone in the room would probably have been looking toward Bush, which is why they’re all looking toward the camera in a photo taken from behind Bush.

Is that the best you’ve got?

  15. Badmoodman says:

Gary, ‘no basis in reality’ is something you and Republicans are experts on. Embarrassment is the price of delusion.

  16. california_reality_check says:

Gee, Gary something has gone terribly wrong in your genetic area. Look, it’s not your fault. Have you considered gene therapy? They are doing wonders now. Oh, I forgot, it is science. Would your masters allow that for you? Just trying to help. You poor devil. Such a pity.

  17. TrueBlue says:

So what do you think Scotty will be saying on Monday?

  18. Gary Ruppert says:

Abramoff was one of Bush’s “pioneers.” Bush knows all of the pioneers, all of the people who raised over 100K for his campaign.

    Unsupported claim.

A lot of people raised 100K for Bush.

Abramoff and his staffed recorded over 200 contacts with the WH.

If you use that “Abramoff’s firm” talk, then Harry Reid has a lot of explaining to do.

Unless you hold a double standard.

Even Abramoff has gone on record as knowing Bush.

    So? Abramoff’s a felon.

Frankly, I don’t care if there are pictures or not, it is clear that Bush knew him.

    “Because I think he did!”

  19. DS says:

Gary, it only took three posts for you to resort to changing the subject and using deragatory names. Must be tough to attempt to work on your own without talking points being issued yet.

********No, you’re confusing the $25,000.- “play to pay” with the Lincoln Bedroom at the Motel 1600.

  21. TrueBlue says:

    Neither troll is worth it.
They’re just trying to get us off the subject again.

  22. Clyde the Ripper says:

    Gary Ruppert,

If you would stop for a minute and think about what you are saying you might want to back off a little. You question the authenticity of the picture on only the grounds that you don’t want it to be true so it must be fake. That argument is not alien to any of your group as it is the argument that your great guru uses when he is caught red handed. The problem you have, however, is that your great guru in the White House has already admitted to the authenticity of the photo (See the post). Now, where are we? You argue the picture is a fake but your idol says it is true. But when your idol says it is true he really wants it to be false and when you say it is false you really want it to be true. Why don’t you give it up for the day and go play with Wally Wallace? I hear he is out of the dog house but still pouting.

  24. Silly Little American Boy says:

Abramoff looks so happy in that picture, so does Bush and everyone else. Those must have been good times, when they had plenty of money to spend and plenty of people to send to death. Man, the time goes by fast, and so does the money and warm camouflaged bodies.

  25. Badmoodman says:

Trueblue – Scotty will say ‘At NO time was Mr. Abramoff on a fishing expedition with the president.’ And some people will swallow that hook, line and sinker.

    Cheers.

  31. the fly-man says:

I think gary Ruppert and Mafrodity miss the point. There simply isn’t enough time left in the world to point by point defend the way in which this administration does business. To constantly have to rebuff every claim made by this particular blog is futile. Wheter legal, legitimate or lazy the current group of GOP elected officials are the only one’s to blame.

Here’s (part of) the song I wish the White House press corps would sing (Thank you for writing it, Green Day):

    “American Idiot”

Don’t wanna be an American idiot.
Don’t want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
    The subliminal mind fuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
    All across the alien nation.
Everything isn’t meant to be okay.
    Television dreams of tomorrow.
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow.
And that’s enough to irk you.

    [McClellan's answer]:

Well maybe I’m the fagget America.
I’m not a part of a redneck agenda.
    Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.

  35. the fly-man says:

The blogs have become the pitch forks and torches to storm the castle with. It’s purely a response to counter the homogeneous congressional districts and the subsequent party stooges that have so willingly concentrated power for this administration. I didn’t vote for them, so why should i be responsible for their actions, let alone not be able to question their activities.

  36. the fly-man says:

I would question more about why if these are official White House photos why we can’t see them. This is why they stack every square inch with stooges, so they can be used when necessary. For example, do you think FOIA requests can be denied because of potential missues of the information by political opponents. I think not, but they have built this wall themselves. eventually the wall will come down, but with this bunch they have erected so many it’s hard to know where to start. Read GSD’s list in the previous thread #22, it’s a great START.

  37. Patrick J. Fitzgerald says:

    Pete,

We have never heard about one-on-ones. We have heard about private meetings. George Bush doesn’t meet with anybody one-on-one. You are just coming up with a new talking point for the righties.

  57. the fly-man says:

Spudge, just by googling his name the dude pops with way too much frequency and it’s the same, god bless his consistency, change the subject, defend the president and the GOP tripe. Only a paid stooge could have that much time and effort to deliver that volume of consistent talking points.

Although I must hand it to you. The “Don’t discuss this topic” aproach to trolling is pretty sweet.

    Here’s a link for you.

    http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizations/codepink/signUp.jsp?key=924&t=WSNTW.dwt

Have fun and don’t forget to always finish your sentences with “Impeach Bush!”

  84. Spudge_Boy says:

    Fighting within the ranks, boys.

Are you in the ranks G.Stone? If you are, then what is with you calling me Spongebrain? To me, that puts you outside the ranks.

  85. G.Stone says:

Spudge, my man. You need to chill. I’m not asking you to stop communicating. I’m just suggesting some organization. Impeach Bush. Happy?

  86. Spudge_Boy says:

If you want somebody to chill, you don’t attack them in your second post.

You said, we are wasting our time and need to contact or Cogress people. Something that the majority of us do constantly.

I told you we do and that it was Saturday.

    You attack me.

You agree with somebody else that we should march on Washington.

    I give you a link.

You say we are fighting in the ranks.

I ask if you are in the ranks.

    You tell me to chill.

You are the one who attacked first, for no reason.

When you go to a party at somebody’s house you don’t know, do you start calling the other guests names?

  87. WaltTheMan says:

    G.Stone,
This group has been together and passing information back and forth for quite some while. We do write our representatives on issues that come up. I do not know about all of the others, but, I also give to worthy candidates and causes.
You came across this thread and entered raging. What were we to believe? Peace?

  88. G.Stone says:

Alright, allow me to calrify. Bush was appointed by the Supreme Court in 2000, he was appointed by Diebold in 2004 and needs to go. We need to talk, but we need a united front that goes beyond words. I write to Fienstein and Boxer at least once a week. This week Bush took hits on 4 fronts. NSA, Katrina, Libby talks to the grand jury and overall approval down. Talking to each other is well and good but don’t let it stop there. Mor republications are bailing every day. Is it because it’s an election year or are they being pushed beyond they’re questioable ethics. Either way, Bush can no longer blame partisan politics for his problems. Talk, write, organize and keep the pressure on. Now, am I in or out of the ranks? Impeach Bush!

  89. WaltTheMan says:

    G.Stone,
I said “Peace?”. That’s my catch phrase for battle over.

****I swear SpudgeMAN has to be some sort of computer algorithm that is programmed to hate everything about George W. Bush. A little pot calling the kettle black?? Come on, progs, this would be THE most boring site for progressives without us. Too many of you are the “habitually offended” – and who would you argue with if everybody took their marbles.

  91. G.Stone says:

  93. G.Stone says:

#94 At least we have some marbles left. Did you catch that? LEFT!

  94. Spudge_Boy says:

    G.Stone,

    It’s all good.

And I did not post the Code Pink link as an insult. They are the next big group who is planning a march on Washington. It is not just for women, the group was just started by women.

The last march on washington had an attendence of 300-400,000 people. It was freaking huge.

I am not sure that Congress is our biggest problem I think for the most part, the Democrats in Congress want change, but there are too many DINOs mucking up the water.

No, I think the Main Stream Media is our biggest hurdle right now. These corporate owned dinosaurs only print the “news” the way Karl Rove sends it out over the newswire.

How do I know? I am in PR for the technology company I work for. The editors tend to write for the most part, whatever is in our press releases.

The MSM doesn’t fact check a damn thing. Only magazines do, because they nromally have a 3 month print cycle. Which is a real bitch for technology, because normally when a magazine comes out, it is nearing obsoletion when the magazine is published.

That is why the 24 hour news programs all sound the same. They are regurgiatating the same thing.

We need more people that actually give a crap about what they are reporting. What do you think is more fun to report on; a boring political scandal or the next big club in LA.

The MSM needs to hire people like Judd and the crew from Think Progress. Shit, hire me. I have 100 Gigs of stuff on Bush. I also remember everything, because I care. I want the truth out there.

Most in the MSM want to get to the next story.

    Sad.

Here’s what Bush had to say during his “accident” where his mic was left on.

    CNN
    February 10, 2006
Bush defends surveillance program to fellow Republicans

“I wake up every morning thinking about a future attack, and therefore, a lot of my thinking, and a lot of the decisions I make are based upon the attack that hurt us,” Bush told the House Republican Caucus which was in retreat at a luxury resort along the Choptank River on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Poor Georgey, who will hold his hand?

Not to mention that this completely destroys the old “All the republicans are for the NSA program. If they were, Bush wouldn’t be defending it to them.

  110. Laszlo Panaflex says:

I have to agree that pictures like this — room full of people, Abramoff isn’t even close to Bush — aren’t at all substantive. They are may serve the purpose of embarrassing Bush, though they are pretty weak even at that.

Did the picture showing Kerry at the same political rally with Jane Fonda prove anything?

Do pictures of Bill Clinton with Jim McDougal establish that Clinton was guilty of anything?

Does the picture of Nixon with Elvis tell us anything about either?

I’d love for substantive links between Jackoff and Bu$hco to be established, but vague photos of them in the same room don’t mean much.

    Laszlo,

The difference between the Kerry pictures were that they were known fakes, whereas the administration has admitted these are real. But considering that the person shaking hands with Bush was an Abramoff client who was paying Abramoff for access to politicians – this picture means more than you’re acknowledging. Perhaps you might consider reading more of the postings before making the leaps you did pumpkin. This picture is quite damning, because it has a context specifically related to known crimes – the other items you mention have no such relevance.

The photo of Abramoff with Bush at a private meeting undermines White House claims that any meetings between the two occured at “widely attended” holiday parties. The White House has confirmed the picture’s authenticity.

Bush’s meetings are all documented. Everything he does in monitored.

This was a private meeting that was documented as being such.

  121. cleaner says:

    Michael Gershon?

A new in-depth profile demonstrates that Bush’s “best” speech writer is a deeply confused man. Not surprising, I guess, as this whole Administration is confused. Bush’s main speech writer, Michael Gerson, the brilliant one who came up with the unnecessarily inflammatory “Axis of Evil” brandishment for nations we never seriously planned to take on, is such a nervous Nellie that he chews off pen tops filling his mouth with ink. More seriously, he already has suffered a heart attack in his early 40s which he blamed on not being able to take a heated argument with fellow Bush man Josh Bolten.

But, perhaps most ironically and certainly hardest for dire-hard liberal hating Republicans to take, the man is a big fan of Jimmy Carter. In fact, if it weren’t for the fact that Carter chose not to impose his personal/religious view of abortion on the rest of America, Bush’s main speech writer might still be a Democrat. The next time brilliant Republicans throw around silly derogatory phrases like “libturd”, they ought to think about how maybe the phrase “braindturds” should apply to themselves in view of the fact that their Administration’s main speech writer is a big fan of Jimmy Carter.

Please read more at http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/articles/060213fa_fact1 . And please do respond Republicans, please do. I want to understand the reasons why our Administration’s policy is so confused, and why it has done such a bad job. I want to understand why the man Bush handpicked as his main speech writer feels such an affinity to Jimmy Carter.

The article is quite long and comprehensive, so here is the quote about Bush’s Carter-loving main speech writer:

“The person whom Gerson first saw as an ideal President, though, was Jimmy Carter. Gerson’s father, an ice-cream maker, was a Republican, but his mother was a Kennedy Democrat, and in high school, in St. Louis (the family moved there from New Jersey when Gerson was ten), Gerson, precociously political, became a Carter supporter. To Gerson, whose parents were evangelical Christians (his last name comes from a Jewish grandfather), Carter’s candid evangelicalism was thrilling. “He was very straightforward about his beliefs,” Gerson said. “It was very exciting.” He recalled Carter’s embarrassment after telling Playboy that he had committed “adultery in my heart.” Secular America found it amusing, but the expression, which came from the Sermon on the Mount, resonated with religious Christians.
Gerson still admires Carter, a furious critic of the Bush Administration, and many other Democrats as well. One day, I asked him to name his favorite Presidents. He immediately placed Franklin D. Roosevelt at the top of the list. “I have gained a new respect for him in my five years in the White House, for his moral clarity and firmness,” Gerson said. I asked him if he appreciated F.D.R.’s frank use of Christian imagery—after all, F.D.R. often referred to the war with Germany as a battle between the Cross and the swastika. Gerson laughed. “We would never use language like that to the extent he did,” he said. Also on Gerson’s list were Truman, Kennedy, and, “for his vision of democracy,” Woodrow Wilson. Finally, he admitted a Republican. “Reagan, to some extent,” he said, “for the recognition of a moral dimension of foreign policy.”
When I asked Gerson why, then, he wasn’t a Democrat, he replied that the Party had left him—in particular on the issue of abortion.”

    Good job on the scoop.

Now let’s press onward toward getting the Bush outta office.

President Jimmy Carter, speaking at his son’s U.S. Senate race on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 SAID

HENDERSON, Nev. — Former President Jimmy Carter criticized the Bush administration’s domestic eavesdropping program Monday and said he believes the president has broken the law.

Under the Bush administration, there’s been a disgraceful and illegal decision _ we’re not going to the let the judges or the Congress or anyone else know that we’re spying on the American people,” Carter told reporters. “And no one knows how many innocent Americans have had their privacy violated under this secret act.”

Carter made the remarks at a union hall near Las Vegas, where his oldest son, Jack Carter, announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate.

The former president also rebuked Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for telling Congress that the spying program is authorized under Article 2 of the Constitution and does not violate the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act passed during Carter’s administration. Gonzales made the assertions in testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which began investigating the eavesdropping program Monday.

It’s a ridiculous argument, not only bad, it’s ridiculous. Obviously, the attorney general who said it’s all right to torture prisoners and so forth is going to support the person who put him in office. But he’s a very partisan attorney general and there’s no doubt that he would say that,” Carter said. “I hope that eventually the case will go to the Supreme Court. I have no doubt that when it’s over, the Supreme Court will rule that Bush has violated the law.”

The former president said he would testify before the Judiciary Committee if asked.

If my voice is important to point of the intent of the law that was passed when I was president, I know all about that because it was one of the most important decisions I had to make.”

The president that signed the law into being has all but condemed the current president’s use of that law as it’s intent isn’t being respected and followed.

    LET THE PRESIDENT SPEAK

    # 117: The picture with Kerry and Fonda sitting together was a fake. The one with him sitting several rows behind her was not. And it proved nothing. Just like pics of Clinton and McDougal, they may be politically embarrassing, but they do not establish anything substantive.

We know Jackoff clients got access to Bu$h without pictures — we even know how much they paid. Pics would dramatize it and allow the left to rub his nose in it, but they aren’t a smoking gun. We know Rummy met with Saddam. The picture of the meeting may be a thorn in Rummy’s side, but it isn’t substantive proof of anything we don’t already know.

The WH is trying to hide the pics because they are embarrassing, but if they don’t show any more than what this one does, it is much ado over nothing.

Sweetie, that’s one of the most ridiculous thinks I’ve ever read. The photo you refer to is one where the two parties involved are no where near each other, nor were there any ties between them. Compare that to the photo of Bush where the Abramoff client who paid him for access to the president is shaking hands with bush, while Abramoff stands in the background. These photos aren’t just embarrassing, they’re clearly evidence. I’m not surprised you can’t see the distinction – as the partisan brain often makes people not capable of processing facts. 147. Vaughn D. Taylor says:

“The one with him sitting several rows behind her was not. And it proved nothing.”

Twisted logic indeed Laszlo. Let’s explore.

Scenario A: Two people attend the same event outdoor event for a similar cause in Washington.

Scenario B: Two people attend the same indoor meeting in the White House.

What do you suppose the likihood of the people knowing one another in scenario A is? It’s possible, but not required. I can easily imagine two like-minded people attending the same outdoor event in Washington, can’t you?

Now onto scenario B. People are not invited at random to attend indoor meeting at the White House. Hell, I can’t even attend a public political event where the president is speaking if I’m a Liberal. Abramoff was a friggin Uber-Lobbyist for the Republican party! Bush treats his earners with extra attention in the form of appointments — that has been proven. If Abramoff had not been caught raping the indian tribes, he would have likely been a Bush political appointee in the near future. I would suggest that Abramoff is there because the president knows him. Considering the e-mails, photos, and the president’s unwillingness to cooperate, don’t things feel bit fishy Laszlo?

I think ultimately, it all comes down to the fact that each person’s reality is their own, and no amount of reality can penetrate their coccon of ignorance. But fortunately, they are the minority, and we are in a country where the majority determines the next course (well, except in November 2000, and again 4 years later where Diebold did that… )

No doubt there will continue to surface more and more proof of interactivity between Abramoff and Bush and others. Another point to accept is that Abramoff isn’t the only “poison arrow” as there will many more to surface associated relationships with others. The Abramoff “story” is one of more than a few, so hold on to your hat and wear a seatbelt when surfing the Internet! This could be prove to be a hazard to your health!

Another way to look at this would be to question yourself with how do you teach your children not to lie, cheat and deceive? If you haven’t done a good job OR maybe you’ve been doing the same yourself, it would be expected that they would pick up on your bad behavior. However, while being maneuvered after others suspect you of lying, you’ll tend to want to run from being exposed. It doesn’t take long before everyone starts to catch on to your ACT. Once you loose creditability, you’re doomed for total loss. Are we at this point? In my opinion, we’ve passed that point a while ago and into the next stage of not believing anything anymore.

I was in a family for more than 26 years who joined Organized Crime. This wasn’t any ordinary Organized Crime System. One criminal activities involves very wide spread Political Corruption along with criminal Laundromats and that’s were my ex-wife’s family comes in. My life experience crosses with Gus Boulis/Abramoff more than a few times and you would be surprised what that entails. But this is only the beginning. There are many other criminal activities plus other more serious and extreme criminal activities above “Wiretapping/Snooping” and “Pay-to-Play” behavior. Actually I know that Wiretapping has been an ongoing affair since way before 9/11! How else can the criminal element within our Federal Government Manage and Secure their ongoing criminal activities? Snooping has kept them “one step ahead” of anyone trying to put a stop to them. But it also sets up many for more serious problems too – this is where the more extreme criminal activities come in. How I know, being in a family who are involved with this for more than 26 years has taught me a great deal of what they were up to. The current news only explains a small percentage of what really has been happening!

If you thought the current news is shocking, just wait to what’s up ahead!

Laszlo, for the record, I was making the point that your original argument is assinine. It’s fairly obvious to everybody, except for you, that Bush knows Abramoff. Looking at the evidence it’s clear that Bush lied when he said “I don’t know the guy.” I guess you can chalk it up to just another in the long litany of lies by Bush, but it’s really unfortunate that people like you are ok with a president that is an habitual liar. With Bush, the integrity and honor of the presidency of the U.S. has become a punchline. And I don’t even want to address his stinking liar of a V.P.

BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS MYSTERIOUSLY REVERSES ITS DECISION AN RECOGNIZES THE COUP AS THE NEW LEADERSHIP OF THE KICKAPOO; NOVEMBER 2002.

WITHIN 30 DAYS THE BIA/FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AIDED IN A COUP!!!!!!!!!

THE QUICK TURN AROUND BY BIA IS REALLY NOT HOW THEY OPERATE
WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE SOMEONE WAS PULLING STRINGS. INFLUENCE PEDDLING !! A JACK ABRAMOFF TRADEMARK !!!!!!!!

A SIMILIAR SITUATION OCCURED WITH SAC & FOX TRIBE IN IOWA ALSO KNOWN AS MESKWAKI.

A TAKEOVER OF SAC & FOX BY CLIENTS OF JACK ABRAMOFF.

BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE COUP LEADERSHIP.

BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS INTERFERES IN TRIBAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS AND BIA ULTIMATELY NAMED JACK ABRAMOFF’S CLIENTS AS THE NEW LEADERSHIP.

ANOTHER COUP WHERE JACK ABRAMOFF IS CLEARLY INVOLVED BY E-MAIL TRAFFIC TO ITALIA FEDERICI, CREA AND TEAM ABRAMOFF ( LOBBYIST’S WITH CONECTIONS TO SENATORS AND OTHER LAWMAKERS.)

WHO OUT THERE IN THE MEDIA WILL PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER.

KICKAPOO TRADITIONAL TRIBE IN TEXAS AND SAC & FOX TRIBE IN IOWA
BOTH IDENTICAL COUP TAKEOVER AND BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIR IRRESPONSIBLE
DECISIONS USURPING BOTH TRIBE’S CONSTITUTIONS. FOR WHAT ????????????

ANSWER: BOTH TRIBE’S EACH HAVE A CASINO OPERATION. MONEY $$$$$$$$$

HERE ON THE SAC & FOX IN IOWA OUR CASINO NAMED MESKWAKI CASINO

$ 21,000,000.00 (DOCUMENTED) WITH NO ACTION TAKEN BY LAW ENFORCEMENT
NOR THE FBI AND DEPT OF JUSTICE.

A CONSPIRACY TO OVERTHROW TRIBAL GOVERNMENTS WITH FEDERAL BACKING.

  163. Dwayne’sWorld » Blog Archive » My take on the Cheney shooting incident says:

[...] Having said that, however, I think that liberals do themselve a disservice by going after Cheney like attack dogs. In doing so, they appear to be no better than the republicans who went on the witch-hunt against Clinton when he was president, over the Lewinski incident. It was wrong then, and it’s wrong now. Nobody, as far as I know, has said that this was anything but an accident. Gleefully jumping on the fact that Cheney didn’t have some obscure $7.00 addendum to his hunting license is not helping anyone. Questioning the timeline of how things happened is more reasonable, but, in my opinion, the effectiveness of this has been blunted by these earlier attempts to find anything even vaguely off to pounce on. I’ve seen similar approaches trying to tie Mr. Bush to Abramoff. I think that Mr. Bush has admitted to enough illegal actions related to the wiretapping. I don’t think we need to dig up bad photos as a “smoking gun.” This just hurts the liberal cause, and proves the right’s point that this is partisan bickering, and not a search for truth and justice. As liberals, we need to stick to the high ground, or we’ll become our own enemy. Sites like ThinkProgress.org, which I monitor regularly, could be an effective means of alerting people to abuses of the right. But they won’t be effective as long as they cast themselves as mirror images of Rush Limbaugh and his ilk. [...]
