VIDEO: Cheney Hunting Accident Simulation

Corpus Christi Caller-Times photographer (and avid quail hunter) George Gongora simulates the impact of Cheney’s shotgun on Mr. Harry Whittington. Here is an image of how much lead would have struck Mr. Whittington:

From the article:

“We can pretty much see that at least over 200 BBs have touched this area right here,” Gongora said, motioning to the face and torso area of the target.

You can also watch the video of the simulation.

In related news, the White House public relations strategy this morning was to crack jokes.

“F*ck you Mr. Cheney…YOU SHOT ME!”

  2. justme says:

    Oh my god (opps, gosh)

Thats not just a peppering ~ That’s an all out combat!

  3. Jay Randal says:

Yes Harry got peppered with birdshot pellets, but not at 30 yds as Dick says > more like 15 yds! Birdshot to penetrate deep enough to go into the heart means a close-in shot!

  4. kindness says:

I know those 7.5 pellets are small, but somehow I don’t think there are 200 of ‘em in 1 28 gauge shell.

Did Darth pull both barrels on the poor guy?

  5. worfeus says:

Theres something more to this story.

This guy might die. We know one of the pellets is lodged in his heart.

Wonder where the other 199 are lodged?

  6. justme says:

There is more to this story…

    I agree #3 – that isn’t from 30 yards.

  7. hardass says:

May be the poor bastard saw something he should’nt have .
    I wonder what.

  8. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Can we get a reporter to ask Scott McClellan, “Does your mother have any plans to protect Texans from armed Vice Presidents?”

  9. FedUp says:

This means that the doctors and everyone else are being misleading. That’s a lot of damage…and to a 78 year old. And the sheer arrogance of Cheney thinking that he owes no explanation to Americans.

I don’t think I’ve ever disliked any public figure, politician, human being, as much as this man.

God help him, cuz I think he’ll being seeing a lot of red in the after life.

  10. katy says:

curious – what are these “pellets” made of? …lead?
wouldn’t you have to worry about lead poisoning then?

  11. the fly-man says:

Don’t pick on Carol. She is one of the few good reasons to be proud of Texas, whether she happens to be mother of scott & mark or not.

  12. cosmo says:

I think what we’re learning is that the guy may have been 30 yards away, but the hit was a DIRECT hit, rather than “spray” from the outside of the path of the shot.

    Cheney is such a liar.

  13. Wayne A. Schneider says:

#11 Fair enough, and I apologize if it seemed that I was picking on her. I meant no disrepect to the fine woman. I just wanted to know if she has any plans to protect her fellow Texans from armed Vice Presidents. Or from her sons Scott and Mark, for that matter. :)

  14. Rio de los Ladrones says:

    #10:
Interesting they are not specifying if it is lead shot……..
Duck hunters are required to use steel or other “non-toxic” shot because spent pellets fall into waterways where the birds pick them up as grit for their gizzards. They can die from lead poisoning.
Upland bird hunters are not required to use non-toxic shot, to the best of my knowledge.
(No other shot packs the whallop that lead does, cept perhaps depleted uranium, and ol dick Fudd could probably arrange for the custom loads)

  15. Hardy Haberman says:

Sounds like a negligent manslaughter charge would be appropriate if the guy dies.

  16. nolaluv says:

I think I saw on wash journal this morning they said there were also a number of pellets stuck in the man’s skin that they decided to leave.

“Whittington had initially been placed in intensive care after the accident Saturday evening. He had been moved to a “step-down unit” Monday after doctors decided to leave several birdshot pellets lodged in his skin rather than try to remove them.”

Sill have not heard anyone apologize to the man in any way, shape or form.

  17. mr ho says:

Oct 5, 2005 : This is what ‘advice and consent’ means
I eagerly await the announcement of President Bush’s real nominee to the Supreme Court. If the president meant Harriet Miers seriously, I have to assume Bush wants to go back to Crawford and let Dick Cheney run the country. -Anne Coulter

It seems Dick is running around in the Country Ms Coulter.

  18. mr ho says:

    feeling more secure now?

  19. Jay Randal says:

Nobody has said what type of pellets in the shells Cheney used > could be steel or brass? If lead then Whittington with 100 to 200 pellets in him could die of lead poisoning
    eventually!

  20. CheneyKilledNatalieHalloway says:

I wish Cheney would have shot Coulter, but I imagine her pectorals and her ball sack would have stopped the pellets, even if it was a DU loaded shell.

  21. Jay Randal says:

Another thing not mentioned > is Cheney’s shotgun a single or double barrel gun? If double did he fire both shells at Whittington?

Did Dick and Harry get in a fight over who gets our Swiss
Ambassador? Since she is not talking to the press, this whole accidental shooting sounds fishy!

  22. CheneyKilledNatalieHalloway says:

Harry was making fun of Dick’s lesbian daughter, and his dream threesome with “A Coppla of dem der Carput Munchr’s”

  23. Gary Ruppert says:

Think Progress mentions the White House joke.

Yet they don’t realize that Dana Milbank and Paul Begala mocking Whittington by dressing in Orange is extremely tasteless.

  24. TerrytheTurtle says:

#23, so Gary, when was the last time you told a Chappaquidick joke?

  25. Badmoodman says:

Ruppert said: “Dana Milbank and Paul Begala mocking Whittington by dressing in Orange is extremely tasteless.”
    - – Yep, they were in poor taste too. But do Begala and Milbank work in this White House?

  26. Gary Ruppert says:

The difference is that Chappaquidick observations (such as “My gun has killed less people than Ted Kennedy’s car”) don’t dishonor the woman who was murdered by Ted Kennedy.

  27. Wayne A. Schneider says:

#23 Tasteless to people without a sense of humor, maybe. Frankly, I thought it would have been hilarious if every single person out in the streets of Washington DC on Monday were dressed in orange.

  28. EconAtheist says:

… a 28 gauge is only good to ~35 yds (max) in order to take down small game… I wonder how much force it takes to penetrate through human flesh + fatty tissue + muscle + etc to get into the heart?

Was Mr. Wittington just wearing a friggin’ t-shirt? Or, as has been suggested, was it closer than 30 yards?

  29. earl says:

Wow, tight pattern for 90 feet, and that’s the outside number I’ve heard. And I dont’ agree with those saying ti has to be a closer shot to penetrate to the heart–even though it dod not have to penetrate to the heart. 90 feet is not a grat distance–from the goal line to the thirty yard line on a football field. Not far at all.

  30. earl says:

    Oy. Typo heaven. Sorry.

  31. Paul says:

The paper target was impressive in showing how many pellets would have hit Whittington. I am more curious at how much penetration would result in something as solid as a man. those very small pellets would lose power very quick. I am doubtful that they would have breached the chest cavity at 30 yards.

  32. TerrytheTurtle says:

#26, sorry I don’t see it. Mocking the event which leads to someone’s death is tasteless however you look at it. Oh, and I believe the word ‘murder’ is inaccurate on your part.

  33. Spudge_Boy says:

I posted this in the other thread, but it is very relevant for peope with the “left it in his skin” questions.

For all interested parties, I had a friend in high school who was shot through a window with a shot gun. They left the pellets lodged in his skin. They would come out on their own like a zit with metal in it.

Great for partys. “Wanna see something gross.” *squeeze* pop tink.

So, the doctors leaving the pellets in his skin is no big deal.

The fact that one traveled all the way to his heart IS big news. It means that Whittington was a hell of a lot closer than 30 yards.

Also, the pellets probably did not penetrate through his chest cavity. More likely they penetrated deep enough into his skin as to be carried to his heart via an artery.

  34. Clif says:

#32 Gary being inaccurate? Surely you jest sir, gary’s never inaccurate, HE’S FULL OF SH*T

  35. TerrytheTurtle says:

#26 Additionally, Milbank and Begala were under the impression that at the time, this was a minor injury, not life threatening. We’ll not know of course what they would have done had this man been killed outright, I suspect there would have been less humor around the airwaves.

  36. Spudge_Boy says:

    Gary Ruppert,

So you wouldn’t mind me getting a shirt that said “My car has killed less people tha Luara Bush’s car.”

  37. Rio de los Ladrones says:

With no disrespect for the victim; aged flesh, skin and the like are somewhat less elastic, things don’t quite bounce off the way they used to.. I know.
Still, that’s a lot of pellets, and definitley a direct hit.
Even at thirty yards, there is no excuse for hitting another person. There may be reasons, but not excuses.
I can well imagine the scene:
‘The end of the day, frustration, dimming light, tired, sloppy reflexes, just a wee bit shaky cause happy hour is a little delayed…..’

  38. Paul says:

The doctor that was just on TV did not think the pellet went trough the circulatory system to the heart. She said it was embedded in the heart muscle. In fact if that were the case that it went through his circulatory system he would have been more likely to have a stroke. By the way an artery would lead away from the heart, not to the heart.

  39. Rio de los Ladrones says:

Unless, of course, it had already begun a couple of coveys ago……

  40. Jay Randal says:

Scotty McClellen announced this evening that this hunting accident is not important, to Americans, so time to move on?

See how they operate > they want this story buried by the press ASAP! We have to demand answers from Cheney, or Karl Rove will force his press pals to whitewash this event!

  41. Paul says:

The bottle was probably in the car. After all they were road hunting.

  42. TrueBlue says:

They seem to have gotten to the doc’s too.
The doc’s seem to be spinning things to make it appear less serious than it is.
Something is just not right with this.

  43. the fly-man says:

WAS, sorry about jumping the gun on you… My 6 year old needed to go to mylittlepony .com and I was not really reading the thread comments very carefully and by the time i had too late. Best wishes to you and Jane. Carol Keeton Strayhorn Rehlander, etc. is a real asset to Texas regardless of her off spring’s political leanings.later and sorry it took so long to get back to ya. Sincerely,TFM.

  44. Syd says:

Maybe a bit OT….after looking at the pic – I just don’t see how anyone could consider this “hunting” or a “sport”. Perhaps at the least it exposes what a pathetic “sport” this is.

  45. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Not a problem, TFM. I understand.

I hope she continues to serve the good people of Texas well.

The evil ones can have their president. :)

  46. the fly-man says:

Syd, bird hunting is one thing, cleaning lead shot out of the kill is another. I don’t know what is more futile, cleaning birds or picking crabs. Sport to me is hunting Javelina with a hand gun.

  47. Spudge_Boy says:

By the way an artery would lead away from the heart, not to the heart.

Sorry, I am a techie not a doctor. I know that the electricty flows out of the power supply into the motherboard. : )

So, then the arteries would be the red ones?

  48. WORFEUS says:

Well the former director of NIH just said on Hardball that it is VERY serious, and she is upset that they are misrepresenting the seriousness of this mans condition.

  49. WORFEUS says:

I mean, whats to be worried about?

He just has a BULLET LODGED IN HIS FREAKING HEART!!!

  50. WORFEUS says:

Sounds bad to me, even if it is just a small one.

The heart is an organ that doesn’t usually respond well to uninvited guests.

Particularly if that guest is MADE OF STEEL.

  51. TerrytheTurtle says:

#46, that’s more like it, Fly. I have an image of Dick Cheney hunting which bears more resemblance to an an armed tour of San Diego Zoo.

  52. Paul says:

It is easy Spudge_Boy. The artery wire leaves the battery to the circuit board. The electricity runs through all the little capillary circuits on the board then enters the vein wires. The vein leaves the circuit board and returns to the battery. If a pellet was in a vein it would most likely go right through the heart into the lungs. Possibly causing a stroke.

  53. MrToomey says:

I have a question about this. If you compare this photo with the diagram from the P&W citation, it would appear that
they are not a match. Based upon physics, if the diagram on the citation is correct, it appears Cheney was a lot closer than 30 yards. If its not correct, then why is it not accurate?

  54. Marie says:

Whittington was wearing the regulation vest so I also question how close must he have been in order for so much birdshot to penetrate his body. Also, I think he was supposedly shot on the right, which adds a little more curiosity to the involvement of the heart.
Cheney, the “Gucci hunter” was not exercising good safety practices regardless of their all trying to blame the victim. The victim may indeed bear some responsibility but the shooter was Cheney and he should be made to answer all questions fully and completely in public. The White House has been lame on this from the start (what ARE they covering up?) and yet the news of Whittington’s turn for the worse today did not prompt anyone at the White House to be up front about it at the noon press briefing. It was simply more stonewalling — something the arrogant bastards do best.

  55. WORFEUS says:

I can’t imagine 28 gauge bird shot penetrating a full grown mans breast plate and reaching his heart at 30 yards.

At 30 yards all you’d have is superficial lodgings of the pellets in the skin.

  56. Clif says:

#47 Bingo Spudge, you just got a Dr. Frist school of medicine Diploma

  57. ItsOnlyHumor says:

Has anyone talked to Mr. Whittington? I think the guy’s already dead they are just trying to figure out how Bill Frist is going to get sworn in when Cheney is arrested. Now if someone could just get inside the hospital to verify…

  58. Blue State Red says:

[. . . yawn . . .] Wake me when you have something important to discuss.

  59. Paul says:

Bill Frist would not become VP. Unless of course Bush chose him to replace Cheney. It would be handled just like when Agnew resigned.

  60. roo roo says:

    What if this was true……..
Dick Cheney was drunk on beer and political power, and shot a Fellow repuglican after an argument over who stole more money…..
    Film at eleven…….

  61. Paul says:

It would be more likely Cheney shot this guy for being a Liberal Republican. According to Molly Ivins, Whittington is about as Liberal as a Republican can get in Texas.

  62. C.P. Krunt says:

Only fascist liberals have the right to make jokes about this. Only their jokes (see Al Frankensteins stupid jokes on Huff post) aren’t funny.

  63. SKdeA says:

I think he’s dead too. Probably has been since the shooting. Otherwise, why all the fuss and bother? If they had come out with it right away when it happened, it would have been well-received (”shit, I shot my brother-in-law once, what’s the big deal?”) by the Repug base and they don’t care what the rest of us think anyway. So why cover up?
Something stinks and it ain’t a dead quail.

  64. Keith H. says:

The old lawyer may have caught just a portion of the blast. As opposed to having the blast pattern centered on his chest, the way this demonstration appeard.
    But through, into his heart?!
Someone should do a study as to what kind of shot/shells dick was using at the time, propelled from what kind of wheapon etc. and see if the 30 yards estimate is true. Could be ‘ol dick shot him point blank.

  65. WaltTheMan says:

As to the size of the shot, if you take two projectiles constructed of the same element(s) and one is 1 unit in diameter and the other two units, the smaller object would have one eight the mass of the larger, but one forth of the surface area. The net result is that the smaller object would experience deceleration at twice the rate of the larger (we’re talking spheres here). Using simple physics and known muzzle velocities, Harry Whittington met Dead Eye’s discharge at a range between 8 and 12 meters. This corresponds with the initial estimate of 30 feet, not yards.

  66. Jay Randal says:

Even with a so-called hunting accident shooting, it has to be treated as a potential crime untill proven otherwise!

Since VP Cheney failed to promptly contact Texas law enforcement officers, and did not meet them till the next day, reinforces suspician of wrongdoing on Dick’s actions!

For any average America the police or sheriff officers would immediately come to the accident/crime scene to investigate it! The Texan deputies just chatted with Cheney the next day and took his word alone for what happened!

This is very strange since the victim was wisked away to a private hospital facility, and prevented from saying anything because Secret Service agents watch over him!

The third person who was hunting with them is likewise wisked away to a unknown location, so she can’t talk either!

This incident is highly suspicious and the way it was withheld from the press makes it more so!!!

  67. the fly-man says:

CPK, could you please explain for our readers your description of what a liberal fascist is?

  68. the fly-man says:

Walt THE MAN, pure physics is so beautiful. Thanks for the time.

  69. Spudge_Boy says:

    fascist liberals

Hey dipshit, the extreme left is communist and the extreme right is fascist. And no I didn’t just call all lefties communists or all righties fascists.

Do you even know what side you’re rooting for? Just like my long haired friend that works in a record store and smokes pot, thinks he is a conservative. Because he dad is.

  70. WaltTheMan says:

    fly-man,
Physics was only a minor, my full degrees were in CompSci and double E. That was back in ‘63 when then the acabus was still faster than an IBM 650.

    WaltTheMan,

You gotta stop talking like that. Peolpe gonna think you an old fart. j/k : )

Double E, very nice. I am impressed by anyone that can earn a double E. One of the guys I used to work with was a double E from Notre Dame. We worked together for a few years, then they offered him a professorship. I miss Joe. He was a great guy, besides being a genius.

  73. Zwack says:

  74. WaltTheMan says:

    Spudge_Boy,
It only takes a supportive father with an immeasurable IQ and a PhD from MIT at 23. I knew about power factors and feedback before I entered grade school.

  75. Marie says:

    Walt, You are so knowledgeable!
Your explanation of the shot coming from a distance of more like ten yards (30 feet) correlates to the medical descriptions I have heard as well as other expert estimates of the most probable distance.
And when one considers the seriousness of the man’s condition, your explanation is all the more credible.
More and more, it seems to a layman like me that indeed alcohol was involved.

  76. natural says:

If one of several dozen pellets penetrated the old man’s clothing and lodged in his heart, imagine what the rest did to his face….how many in his eyes?

  77. Paul says:

    http://www.slate.com/id/2136206/

This article talks about Whittington’s injuries in more detail. As well as what his friends think about the blame for the accident being dumped in his lap.

  78. Mitch says:

I’m going to give Cheney the benefit of the doubt. Whittington kind of looks like a chicken and a chicken kinda of looks like a quail.

  79. WORFEUS says:

Dr. Sanjay Gukta said on CNN today that the bullets apparently pierced Huttingtons BreastPlate.

There is NO way that Cheney’s little Perazzi 28 gauge Small Bore pierced a fully grown mans breastplate at 30 yards out.

    NO FREAKIN WAY.

  80. WORFEUS says:

Eyewitnesses said the shot knocked Huttington down.

There is no way that a little 28 gauge birdshot dropped a fully grown man at 30 yards out.

We are to believe that wide scattering bird shot impacted a 200 pound man at 30 yards out, pierced his breastplate and knocked him to the ground?

  81. WORFEUS says:

I wonder what Huttington could have said to Cheney to piss him off so bad?

  82. ItsOnlyHumor says:

The media’s gonna have a field day with images of this guy if he ever gets out.

Insert caption here: “Whatever you do, don’t snort Jameson with the veep, don’t go hunting with the man, and NEVER…UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES…MAKE THREESOME JOKES ABOUT GETTING IT ON WITH HIS DAUGHTER AND PAM ANDERSON.”

  83. Ellen Lincourt says:

This shot pattern is not consistent with the police report that is posted on Smoking Gun. That report shows the strike area of the blast as much more localized to the upper left shoulder, neck and lower face. Please take a look and respond.

    http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0213061cheney1.html

  84. patriotboy says:

There are approx 268 #7-1/2 pellets in a 3/4 oz load for a 28 guage shotgun. I don’t believe that 4/5ths of the shot hit the target.

  85. Cliff says:

Unforunately, the lack of objectivity in this piece undermines the credibility of all such arguements.

Clearly, this implies that the human target was aimed at directly, when in fact, it might simply (and most likely) have been the receipt of a few stray shot off to the side of the line of fire.

Just because you aim directly at a target and get these results doesn’t mean that someone standing off to one side wouldn’t still get hit, but by only a few speading trajectories.

Common..if we’re going to be credible here, we need to be objective and not just jump on every possible argument just because it furthers our position or attack.

    Cliff
    Fresno, CA

  86. Richard Krause says:

I am not a ballistics expert but the pattern on the texas game report does not match what we are seeing here. To me the wounds suggest much closer than 30 yards.

  87. Spudge_Boy says:

We are to believe that wide scattering bird shot impacted a 200 pound man at 30 yards out, pierced his breastplate and knocked him to the ground?

    Exactly.

  88. Clif says:

#84 &85 A QUOTE FROM AN ATTENDING DOCTOR
“Also Monday, Austin lawyer Harry Whittington, 78, left the intensive care unit at Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial. He was in stable condition after being hit with as many as 100 birdshot pellets but incurring largely superficial wounds, said Dr. David Blanchard, who briefed reporters in Corpus Christi.”

  89. Jay Randal says:

Harry Whittington was NOT hit by a few stray birdshot pellets at 30 yds from Cheney! Originally 30 feet was mentioned, but even that distance is kinda far for pellets to penetrate through his breastplate and lodge near his heart! There needs to be some tests done with the shotgun on some dummies or a cadaver to see at what distance similar wounds would occur! I surmise that Harry was most likely about 10 to 15 feet from Dick, so why is he trying to foist a bogus story?

  90. Drew Mackenzie says:

Try picturing Al Gore blasting an old man in the head with a shotgun. Just doesn’t work, does it?

  91. Alex says:

    Hehe he was just “peppered”.

    R2K

  92. Nate says:

    Cheney Hunting Video Surfaces!

Morning from the islands everyone… Just thought I’d lighten it up a little.

  93. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    #54 Marie,

As they like to say in DC, “I’d like to associate myself with the good lady’s remarks.” (i.e. I agree.)

And apparently Scottie was making jokes at the start of the press conference (bet that pissed off CPK) even though he knew at that point that Mr. Whittington took a turn for the worse.

I, too, suspect that alcohol played a part in this, even if it was only that Harry refused to pitch in a couple of bucks.

  94. Chris says:

The pattern released in the medical report shows a concentration in the upper left chest area that suggests from 5 to 10 yards max.

Judging on curent Whitehouse history 30 yard meaans 3 to 5 yards.

Anymore, one can only expect lies from this administration.

  95. Joseph Kosuda says:

At least he didn’t “put his eye out.”

  96. Robert Partin says:

    http://www.shotgunworld.com/amm.html

There are actually from 300 to 400 pellets in this size load. I have hunted quail in Texas for years and when someone is “peppered” they can squeeze the shot out of their skin with their fingernails. If he has shot that penetrated so far as to enter his chest cavity then he took a direct hit. I believe that the picture of the target is quite accurate. I also believe that the reason that the Sheriff was turned away on Saturday evening and told to return in the morning is due to the fact that the men had been drinking. Only an IDIOT drinks and shoots shotguns.

  97. Wilder Wilson says:

“At least he didn’t put his eye out”…. how do we know that? I’m sure we’ve only heard part of the story..it just seems to keep getting worse and worse. And whomever the dick-wad is that thinks Carole Keeton McClelland Ryland Stackover Shuck-and-Jive is a great lady, should think again.. If you aren’t a bush support/lover, then you shouldn’t even consider her. Why do you think all three of her sons have their snouts in the government trough?? “BECAUSE SHE LOVES BUSH” and is now and will always be a republican, no matter how much she proclaims herself an ‘independent’!! That is pure horse S__T!!

  98. The Peace Blog » Deadeye Dick says:

[...] When not blaming Mr. Whittington for Cheney shooting him in the face and torso, the jackasses in the White House and Cheney’s apologists joke about the shooting as being a “peppering.” ThinkProgress.org has a link to what Mr. Whittington injuries from such a peppering from Deadeye Dick might look like. [...]

  99. cbrennan says:

The thing that sticks in my craw is that such small shot had that much velocity at 90 feet to penetrate the chest wall (thru the ribs or between, who knows) and irritate the heart itself. What kind of choke – if any – was Cheney using on this shotgun? From the sound of the injuries, etc., it would seem that the shot was more of a direct hit than a glancing blow, especially given the height of the trajectory. I’ve been bird hunting and know that a flushed bird is going to gain air, fast – far faster than a 6′ man moves.

We’re not getting the full story here.

If this happened to some poor schmo out hunting with his buddies, the first thing that would happen after the EMS folks left would be police questioning, to include an intoxylizer test if there was any question about alcohol use by the parties involved. Apparently, that didn’t happen…and we really don’t need to ask “Why not?” do we?

The most sickening bit of this are the lame jokes McClellan made at UofT about his orange tie. That was insensitive, disrespectful and contemptible. The man is in the ICU and the office boys of the man who shot him is making jokes at his expense. Yeah, real “compassionate” conservatives they are.

Here’s hoping that Mr. Whittington makes a full and speedy recovery, for Dick’s sake, because if he dies, there is no way he can dodge his responsibility.

  100. Larry Gill says:

What is Cheney hiding? Why did he refuse to talk to law enforcement until the next day? Sounds like a couple of good OLD boys threw-back a couple before or during the hunting trip and he did not want to talk to law enforcenment with booze on his breath. He still thinks he is above the law.

  101. big papa says:

    We’ve all gotta admit…

They did a da*n good job of hiding L’il Dick’s electric motored wheel chair in those photos of “the hunt”…

    …what?

…you didn’t think L’il Dick could walk that far with HIS ticker, did you?

  102. Paul says:

Only about 400 people live in that county. Considering her wealth and political connections, Armstrong most likely can get whatever she wants in that county. Is it any wonder no serious questions were asked?

    Comment by Paul #102

    Paul,

…Sure looks like being a Bushite, al Cracker traitor is good living if you can get it, huh?

  104. Ann Kennedy says:

What will it take to rid the White House of this
reprehensible mob. there has been nothing but war, chaos and havoc since 1/20/01, the date on whch, Bush, the illieterate war time deserter was illegally seated by the corrupt Supreme Court.

  105. valmarie says:

Nobody has addressed the fact that the second in command of this country could have been the one shot (hold your cheers). Was the Secret Service there? Is this a wise activity, for the Vice President, who already has a a bad ticker? Or just another example of the arrogance of this administration?

  106. Dale Dreyer says:

The guy should know better than to have worn the quail-shaped hat.

  107. pluv says:

Oh yes, it stinks, even if, as the birlliant #106 suggests, the fool had his quail hat on. Let’s stop counting pellets and look at the BIG BIG picture… For all we know – this poor man could be dead already– dead on the spot, for that matter, on that day. It took so LONG for anything to come out– becasue they needed to work the story. CNN keeps putting out these little blurbs– oh Mr Whittington’s condition has suddenly worsened.
Oh, some pellets moved to his heart…. oh, he is “back” in the ICU. Come on!!

So- just maybe in the Rovian world– it plays out like this… Libby indicates his “boss” told him to do it. Can’t shoot Libbe. VP picks his victim — vicitim dies of gunshot wound, VP must resign, new VP appointed. Treason — long fogotton. Mid- term elections secure. Mr. Whittington is such a good friend — he took one for the team.
I know– it is far fetched.. but I just watched the Watergate movie again the other day. Whose idea was it for the Comm. to Re-elect Nixon to bug the DNC? How wierd do they get? Anything– anything is possible in DC or TEXAS. And there you go… it happened in TEXAS!!!! For God’s sake!!

  108. KEVIN SCHMIDT, STERLING VA says:

    Fresh FAUX Gnus!!!

Bretany Hu,me?: now is it clear that he had caught part of the shot?

Cheney the cheneyer: Waak, waak, waak.

Bretany Hu,me?: I take it you missed the bird.

    Cheney the cheneyer: Waak.

Earlier, Cheney said, “The image of him falling is something I’ll never get out of my mind… It was the worst day of my life.” (translated by a gay penguin)

Hey Bret, good show of compassion! Well said! Now go hunting with Cheney! Take everyone else at FAUX with you too. Don’t forget the beer!!! And don’t forget to stand up sun from Dead I A Dick!

Hey Cheney, if you think that day was bad for you, just wait till your impeachment. But that won’t be the worst of it. Just wait till we find your off shore Hellsaburpin accounts!

  109. lpt says:

Mr. Whittington said to someone after being shot that he didn’t know if he was headed for the hospital or the morgue. Scary. This is a huge story because it puts a nice bow on everything we’ve witnessed about this administration for about 6 years now and it shows in stark reality WHY the Republican party cannot govern with any degree of skill or equity and why it is in the best interest of our country and the world not to EVER allow this one party(esp. this party) rule to occur again.

  110. Carol M says:

Our leaders??? Very scarey! Dick don’t know the difference between a bird and a person? Get the Bush bunch out of the White House!

  111. Pat says:

Remember Nixon’s nickname – Tricky Dick? Now our VEEP’s known as “Trigger Dick” You know what he’s going to do when he leaves office? He’s going to open up a chain of restaurants with buxom waitresses dressed in skimpy hunting gear. He’ll call it “sHOOTERS.” Rumor has it that when Harry couldn’t locate his downed quail right away, he got frustrated and said “Oh, shoot.” The rest is now history.

Although I, too think there is something more to this story, I fear that while we are all trying to figure it out, Congress will go ahead and give Bush a pass on any investigation of his illegal wiretapping.

  112. Mike Douglas 1945-63 says:

To everyone in the right wing who invokes Ted Kennedy: Laura Bush has killed just as many people with her car as Ted. In 1963 she ran a stop sign and killed a classmate. Dick happens.

  113. GOPHater says:

I wonder what we could do to get Dumbya to go hunting with Cheney?

  114. Tippersnore says:

Is this becoming Junior’s Quayle problem of his own?

  115. Old Marine says:

An accident? Hardly! Deliberate is the only conclusion.

I was a rifle range coach in the marine corp. Trained, experienced shooting is all habit. Pick up a piece, you automatically check to see if its loaded. No one on any firing line at the range, on the line in combat, or a hunting line as for quail ever turns their piece to the left or right over 75 degrees let alone 90 degrees and fires a round off. NEVER!.

Mr Cheney has gone quail hunting 100s of times. Quail break cover and fly out in a star burst pattern so some are always flying towards and through the hunting line. Suddenly after 100s of hunting trips to do a complete 180 degree pivot and fire behing the firing line in violation of all his ingrained and trained habits. BS.

Everyone on a line knows that behind the line is safe. thats why no announcement distracting other shooters when you take a piss, pick up a bird, or reload.

200 shot in the head and shoulder could only mean 15 yards. Trained good ahooters always pick up the target first before squeesing off the round, a ingrained habit. Acquire target, shoot second.

Deliberate is the only possible conclusion. He was almost certainly dirinking, which gave him the dutch courage to Deliberately’ shoot Mr. Whittingham.

Why, I don’t know what Mr. Whittingham told him. Perhaps asking him to stop the illegal wiretaps. somethiong enraged Cheney, and deliberate hunting accidents are always between old friends.

    Cheney is truly a sociopath.

  116. Uncle Sam says:

116: Thank you for saying what I’ve been hammering at on other blogs, including my own, for days. Something here isn’t right. When you hunt in a group, you fan out in a line and cover a wedge-shaped area in front of you so you don’t shot one of your partners. You do not — EVER — shoot behind you.

Also, you should be a good person to speak to this. How do you think a piece of #7 1/2 shot, which is 2.39 inches in diameter, suddenly morphed into a 5 mm piece of shot in or against Whittington’s heart? 5 mm is closer to the size of BB shot, just a little larger than a .17 HMR bullet. What was Cheney really hunting?

  117. Uncle Sam says:

OOPS, 2.39 mm in diameter, not inches. If it were inches, it would be a cannon. My mistake.

  118. Buttercup says:

I think we’ve forgotten that Cheney is NOT a real hunter, but, a blood sport enthusiest. He enjoys the kill, not hunt. This is apparent by the many known canned hunts that he’s participated in, where the number of kills is counted like a score in a ball game.
Most hunters grimice at this sort of hunt and see it as breaking the fundimental rules of hunting, i.e. seeking out game in their environment not from a vehicle, not taking down more than you will eat, look before you shoot, don’t drink before a hunt. Another no-no I’ve seen with inexperienced “hunters” is they forget to keep their gun to the ground.
Sometimes, they will sling the gun over their shoulder with the index finger on the trigger guard or sometimes the trigger itself. This is always a bad idea and you will find yourself hunting alone if this behavior becomes habit. Or, possibly in Cheney’s case, you mame members of the hunting party before members of the secret service can remedy the position of the firearm.
Anyone who has truly been hunting will tell you that the rules of hunting are like sacred laws written in stone. And anyone who, with more than 100 hunts to their claim would, without regard defile those laws, should have no right to carry a weapon for any purpose whether puplic or private. In layman term, you’ll get your ass kicked and nobody will talk or drink with you anymore.

  119. SCAREDTOTELLTHETRUTH says:

was it that BIG DICK was feeling good with some alcohol in his blood >> you will never know because he is BIG DICK and not little Joe… BIG DICK GETs his way no matter what…
and the regime sticks up for him … what a lesson of loyalty ….

  120. Tom "Sniper" Sharpshooter says:

A good video simulation on how to aim BUT…….I didn’t see him hit DICK. What a waste of time. He may just as well have shown us a broken bottle of Scotch and said “see I hit it.” He could have shown us anything. If that is what Texas newspeople call proof it is no wonder we have a Faux Texas IDIOT for a president.

  121. stephen says:

I dont understand how someone could accidentaly shoot someone in the face with a shotgun. Shooting a shotgun is a lot different than a pistol, you have to hold it up and even if you dont have your eye down the aimer, you can clearly see where the pellets are going to go.

  122. Mike Hammerschlag says:

Many of these questions are answered in my Media Channel story HUNTING TRUTHS – The Trouble with Harry at http://hammernews.com/huntingtruths.htm . I interviwed several reporters at the Corpus christi paper, and various ballistic and shotgun experts.

They were able to bury many important questions under the blanket of the pathological Cheney secrecy, like,

    1. what was Whittington wearing (got t-shirt, shirt, vest + maybe jacket)

    2. Did Cheney fire both barrels of custom made Parazi shotgun- gun blogger says lower barrel, set at a wide choke, fires first. Upper one may be more tight.

    3. Where exactly was Whit hit? Accident report shows no impacts on arm- impossible unless much closer in 13-14″ diameter circle. (Newsweek does show arm impacts)

    4. How many pellets hit him? The nonsense statement of 6-200 was designed to confuse people, and sucker them into claiming high number, then saying, “no you’re wrong”.

    5. What is absolute narrowest pattern at 90 ft with full choke, high power load, etc. I think it’s not less than 24″, about 3-4 times the size of shot pattern on Whit.

    6. What would they penalty be for a non-imperial citizen who (perhaps) drunkenly blasted a partner, into the sun, towards a car of people, from maybe 30 ft, without a proper license; let’s him take almost 3 hours to get to intensive care while a helicopter stands by idly for his personal use, abandons him to swill drinks at the ranch, hides from authorities for 14 1/2 hours, blames the victim, and never ever says “I’m sorry”.
