Under pressure from a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, the Justice Department may begin releasing internal legal memos related to warrantless domestic spying as early as March 3. The New York Time reported earlier that the memos “may contain far-reaching and potentially explosive legal theories similar to those advocated by Mr. [John] Yoo and others, and later disavowed by the Justice Department, regarding policies on torture.”
Can we get that date bumped up?
sadly, I’m not surprised by the news.
February 14th, 2006 at 1:05 pmFrankly, I am surprised they haven’t declared anyone filing a FOI lawsuit as an enemy combatant or terrorist. If the facts get too sticky for the Bushistas, they will start having people who ask too many questions “detained”.
Mark this prediction down.
February 14th, 2006 at 1:10 pmHe might handle it, but he won’t respond to any questions, so we may never know: yoo@law.berkeley.edu
February 14th, 2006 at 1:15 pmMore bulldust. The only reason to disclose these memos will be to deflect responsibility from Bush and Cheney. They chose to violate the 4th Amendment and/or FISA. They are responsible for the impeachable offenses, not some bootlicking lawyer.
February 14th, 2006 at 1:16 pmPerhaps, they can appoint an attorney as Attorney General.
February 14th, 2006 at 1:34 pmYoo is a Law Professor at Berkley (iirc) How the hell can a progressive institution like Berkley employ such a disaster to the very basics of law as this person ??
February 14th, 2006 at 2:41 pmbush and porter goss has just declared a war on whistle blowers! so no more news from the W.H. I think this is called a blackout!
February 14th, 2006 at 3:34 pmWhat if OTHER more suspicious facts surface from their Wiretapping efforts? Thus far, they’ve tried to tell us that this was to protect us, but what if it surfaces that this is ANOTHER lie?
Maybe it’s time we start adding up the LIES and then worry about what all the LIES mean?
February 14th, 2006 at 4:49 pmA war on Whistle Blowers?
February 14th, 2006 at 7:13 pmFigures a war on Christmas, and now war on everyone that doesn’t agree with George and tells the truth.
Why is it whenever the wind blows the stench of excrement from the White House, John Yoo is there. He is like the evil Tom Joad.
February 14th, 2006 at 7:21 pmJust like in my short story “In the Penal Colony”, Mr. John Yoo should himself be tortured in order that he gain a real understanding of the meaning of torture… as the meaning is inscribed on his own body.
The same holds for the “Attorney General” and his fellow Republicans who find it so easy to dispense gratuitoous death and dismemberment.
February 15th, 2006 at 12:16 amoh this is really good news. I can’t wait to see the memos and even more importantly how the whole issue is report or ignored by the mainstream media.
