Bush on Health Care, Biggie-Sized

Bush on Health Care, Biggie-Sized

TripleBush To Discuss Health Care During Visit To Wendy’s,” Cincinnati’s WCPO-TV reported. Their headline wasn’t a joke – Bush really picked the headquarters of the nation’s third-largest burger chain as the place to sell his health care schemes to the American people.

President Bush has talked about how curbing obesity is essential to reducing health care costs. From his 6/22/02 radio address:

Americans who are obese spend approximately 36 percent more on health care services than the general population. They spend 77 percent more on medications.

The problem is especially pronounced among young people. Obesity rates among America’s children have doubled since the 1970s, and childhood obesity has been shown to increase the risk of asthma, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Wendy’s is part of the problem. Last week, the fast food joint announced it “will focus more attention on younger consumers as it tries to turn around the trend at its hamburger restaurants.” Research shows children are susceptible to the types of advertising Wendy’s will use to convince children they need 960 calorie kids’ meals. “Research indicates that the ads children are exposed to do influence their choice of foods,” the Kaiser Family Foundation found.

Yes, but the President exercises and is in good shape unlike Clinton when he was President and Hillary and Gore now.

Payson – you are a petty little man.

  2. Evil Spaniard says:

#1 Maybe he needs less gym to look in shape for PR stunts and more desk job to read newspapers, PDBs and Hurricane warnings… just thinking…

  3. cousin benny says:

#1 This has nothing to do with the president’s personal habits. What kind of message is he sending about health care if he is giving his speech from Wendy’s HQ? Not a very positive message IMO

  4. ptl says:

Bush has a solution; force feed the American people baloney(bologna) on a daily basis.

  5. Rio de los Ladrones says:

It sure looks to me like he’s greasing his own skids for work in the private sector after he departs, he’ll always have suitable employment and a warm place to be in the winter with plenty of food.
He deserves NOTHING MORE than the particularly obese “american dream” he and his buffoonish buddies keep trying to cram into our faces.

  6. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Payson, you’re doing an excellent job, so don’t listen to brain-dead conservatives who lack the intellectual capacity to understand subtlety and nuance.

  7. Spudge_Boy says:

Rightly so is wwallace. You can tell by his assinine comments.

HOW IS THE PRESIDENT SUPPOSED TO PUSH HEALTH CARE AT A FRIGGIN BURGER JOINT

This just shows that he is not serious about healthcare. Just like everything else. This is a diversion from the real topics.

Plame not only was under cover, but she was working on Irans nuclear capabilities.

Muhammed Atta was ID’d by Able Dange 13 times before the 9/11 attacks.

The NSA has more than one wiretapping program as Alberto Gonzales alluded to and was confirmed yesterday during the National Security Whistleblowers Hearings in the House.

Jack Abramoff WAS a close friend of Bush’s up until the minute he plead guilty.

    Etc.

Oh yeah, Cheney shot somebody inthe face and is covering it up.

  8. beavercleaver says:

Wish me and my buddies were takin’ the Prez’s order:
“One double Whopper, for the President of the United States.”…followed by the sound of the cook harkin’ a complimentary luggy. Hah!

  9. DS says:

Watched his comments. The usual only telling half the story to twist the end results to those he wants to quote.

Regarding him working in the private sector after 2008, he actually said that’s when he turns 62 and he is looking forward to retiring and collecting his Social Security. He’s telling folks making maybe $30,000 a year how happy he is to add to his millions with his monthly Social Security payout. What an ass.

  10. RemoveBush says:

Spudge_Boy, not only was she under cover but she was “nonofficial cover” which means that if she was to get captured by the enemy the CIA would claim they did not know here.

    Super secret in otherwords.

Of course, children obtain their own funds from the labor they perform for their employers and not, for example, from an adult entrusted with their care and upbringing.———

  15. Evil Spaniard says:

#13 But he is far costly than $1 burgers…

  16. Clif says:

#15 so is the burger in the long run

  17. Stew says:

You’re all a bunch of dumbasses. This whole thing is designed around Wendy’s introducing the new Quail Crunch Lacerated Liver Burger Deluxe Meal Deal.

  18. Keith H. says:

I would gladly pay you for three tastey hamburgers tomorrow, in exchange for two delicious hamburgers today.

#17 78 yo & republican meat? Too much skin, nerves and fat and no protein at all… hard to swallow and no nutritive quality…

  20. Gregor Samsa says:

You fall ill -and get treatment- with the health care plan you have, not the one you wish you had…

  21. beavercleaver says:

    Doesn’t Bush look ham handed?
Ham handed is the way to go! Ham handed health care.
Slab of ham?…nah, I’ve got ham on my hands, ’sides I’m up to my hams in hands.
    Eat hamburgers kids…you won’t need health care…simple.

  22. Clif says:

#19 No what bush really did is turn to the chinese diplomat and ask to borrow the money…………..

  23. Desi says:

Um, he picked Wendy’s I imagine because he’s in Dublin, Ohio today and its relation to the late Dave Thomas. Not that I’m defending the buttmunch or anything.

  24. Mikey says:

Wendy’s is a big contributor to the Republican cause.

Funny thing except for maybe the manager non of the employess that made/serve his burger have health care..Same old message..those who don’t have and or can’t afford healthcare, better not get sick

  26. Alex says:

You know, at least he is a healthy president. He does lead by example in that one issue, clinton had a problem there.

  29. Brit_Spume says:

My guess is that Bush spends a lot more time keeping himself up and a lot LESS time on actually running the country than previous presidents. His amount of vacation time compared with others offers evidence of that.

But now that I think about it, maybe it’s good that he spends less time on “running the country”–given the condition it’s in, more Bush-time would be disastorous.

    F’Rightfully Sore,

Da*n if I’d know your god Bushiva was going to Wendy’s I’d have arranged for a “MIDDLE FINGER” to protrude from his chili…

…and no matter how “fit” he looks, with his mental deterioration he’s going to die anyway…

    …just like you…

  31. fade says:

Guess how many overweight obese fatasses are republicans- Look into that SUV with the W sticker- Yep there’s another lardass rethug right next to ya.

  32. Marie says:

Bush may be at very little risk to indulge in fast food himself, but it is incongruous that he should be speaking on health care for Americans from a fast food establishment.
On second thought, hyppocrisy rooted in hubris is the hallmark of Bush&Co.

  33. War4Sale says:

This is a perfect example of evolution in progress.

The Bushloving, WalMart-shopping McBurger-gorging, Krispy Kreme crowd will die prematurely from obesity, heart disease, or complication from diabetes.

The intelligent segment of the population will adapt to the environment by educating themselves on nutrition and exercise and reap the benefits – longer, healthier lives.

  34. meg_mac says:

what could goober have been thinking?? talking about health care from a fast food giant? if he really wanted he could have found an organic farm or something. ridiculous beyond imagining!!!! Karl you’re losing it!!

  35. Sister Boogie Woman says:

Think maybe Wendy’s is in bed with Bush? This reaks of product placement. Just when you thought Bush couldn’t sink any lower, he beds down with a square hamburger culled from the unwanted parts of a bull’s scrotum. Time to place Wendy’s on the boycott list.

  36. meg_mac says:

Bush = bull’s scrotum. sounds about right!

  37. Rio de los Ladrones says:

Burger and (just) a beer for lunch today…….
my my ..and these are our representative leaders?
Watch these clowns close, they could do a lot more damage yet on their way down. A bully getting called on his **it can be pretty dangerous until he’s on the ground blubbering for mercy.

  38. Lavender says:

Bush may excercise, but clearly Rove, McClellan, and Cheney among others are too busy doing the dirty work… Ugh greasy fat white guys. It just makes it even more insulting that they’re running (and ruining) our country.

  39. Marie says:

Trent Lott recently complained about having to be reduced to eating at fast-food hamburger places if meals get restricted to $20.

  40. katy says:

do you suppose he thinks the minimum wage earners at wendy’s can affort to have a medical/health savings account? (whatever it’s called, besides hooey)…
    riiiiight…

  41. Bluestocking says:

C’mon, people — are we really surprised? This sort of rhetoric is par for the course from this administration — the words say one thing, the actions virtually the complete opposite. How different is this from all that malarkey in the SOTU speech about the necessity of strengthening math and science skills in order to nurture talented minds who can help resolve our energy issues — while he’s at the same time cutting billions in student loans? Plainly put, these folks just don’t walk the talk and at least in my opinion and experience, people like this can only be trusted to do two things — mess with your head and screw you over…

Reminds me all too often of those little disclaimers at the bottom of those cups they give you at the casino in which to carry araound your winnings…the one which provides contact information for Gamblers’ Anonymous??

  42. unbelievable says:

    From CNN:

“Fifty-seven percent of parents say “things are fine” with the amount of math and science being taught in their child’s public school. High school parents seem particularly content — 70 percent say their child gets the right amount of science and math.

Students aren’t too worried, either, according to the poll released Tuesday by Public Agenda, a public opinion research group that tracks education trends.

Only half of children in grades six to 12 say that understanding sciences and having strong math skills are essential for them to succeed after high school.”

Now we know why they are overeating… or rather, why they don’t know any better. Laziness in body and mind are on the rise…

  43. big papa says:

do you suppose he thinks the minimum wage earners at wendy’s can affort to have a medical/health savings account? (whatever it’s called, besides hooey)…

    Comment by katy #40

    katy,

It’s the “perception” that they can that counts…

…don’t you see the beauty in it all, giving ‘em something to believe in…

…Bushiva cares about your health America, even when i’m robbing your dumb as*es blind, destroying your democracy, and setting myself up as “EMPEROR EMERITUS”…

…Bushiva: “creating reality” streams in the public consciousness…

    …one inbred at a time…

  44. ronin says:

Um, how many people who work for Wendy’s are uninsured, do you think?
