There is bipartisan concern about the Bush administration’s decision to outsource the operation of six of the nation’s largest ports to a company controlled by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) because of that nation’s troubling ties to international terrorism. The sale of P&O to Dubai World Ports would give the state-owned company control of “the ports of New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia.â€
A major part of the story, however, has been mostly overlooked. The company, Dubai Ports World, would also control the movement of military equipment on behalf of the U.S. Army through two other ports. From today’s edition of the British paper Lloyd’s List:
[P&O] has just renewed a contract with the United States Surface Deployment and Distribution Command to provide stevedoring [loading and unloading] of military equipment at the Texan ports of Beaumont and Corpus Christi through 2010.
According to the journal Army Logistician “Almost 40 percent of the Army cargo deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom flows through these two ports.”
Thus, the sale would give a country that has been “a key transfer point for illegal shipments of nuclear components to Iran, North Korea and Lybia” direct control over substantial quantities U.S. military equipment.
What what what what what??????????????????????
February 20th, 2006 at 7:55 pmThe Bush Administration reaches a new level of breathtaking stupidity.
February 20th, 2006 at 8:00 pmIt couldn't be stranger if they tried. Let's just give them the keys to the Pentagon while we're at it, and maybe throw in the NSA...
February 20th, 2006 at 8:02 pmI've been thinking about this for awhile, and I'm convinced that there's more nefarious and clandestine aspects to this deal to which the public is blind. It's just far too transparent...far too easy to call Bush a hypocrite for this. Either this is one major smokescreen for something else they've cooking up, or someone close to Bush is going to be extremely rich from it.
From SO many angles, this is just so damn odd that they'd even try this. And Chertoff's half-answers that included a whole bunch of "that's classified/secret" only lends me to believe this is deal is something much bigger than just port ownership. Paint me cynical.
February 20th, 2006 at 8:03 pmor someone close to Bush is going to be extremely rich from it.

"military equipment at the Texan ports of Beaumont and Corpus Christi through 2010."
Yep. (and Bandar Bush as well).
February 20th, 2006 at 8:06 pmDamn it you just don't understand.
Only Bush and Cheney are capable of protecting you (us) from terrorists.
The Democrats, Gore and Kerry would make it more likely that the terrorists would be successful in attack the U.S.
This is how you make the U.S. secure. Make the Arabs responsible for security. It will force them to change and become peaceful. Don't you guys know anything?
February 20th, 2006 at 8:06 pmSince when is this country for sale? Is that it now? King George is selling it to the highest bidder?
February 20th, 2006 at 8:07 pmThis was Chertoff's call and supposedly Bush was not in this loop. Look for this deal to be killed and/or Chertoff to be shown the door. The Democrats should be all over this since security is Bush's last chip he can play. This UAE deal could be #41's "read my lips" moment for #43.
February 20th, 2006 at 8:11 pmmore cronyism too, likely it seems...
from the "chertoff" thread earlier:
I am surprised that nobody here has mentioned the most obvious connections — Treasury Secretary John Snow, and brand-spankin’-newbie-crony David Sanborn. Snow was formerly CEO of CSX. Sanborn was an executive with CSX/Sea-Land division. Then Sanborn left to become a director with Dubai Ports and brokered a deal for Dubai Ports to purchase the South American and Asia port operations from CSX. Now - just two weeks ago - Sanborn is introduced as the new Assistant Secretary of Transportation - Marine Administration. Then the quasi-secret “Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States†(CFIUS), which is chaired by John Snow, makes this ruling. Hullo - McFLY!

February 20th, 2006 at 8:14 pmHow to find out if Bush family and Carlysle Group is involved? It simply defies reason.
February 20th, 2006 at 8:21 pm#7,
Been that way for a while now.
February 20th, 2006 at 8:21 pmDo any reasonably thinking Right Wingers have any comments about this? Really.
February 20th, 2006 at 8:23 pm#8--no, bush's team (and thus Bush) was very much involved. Rumsfeld, Rice, Gonzo, Hadley, etc. all signed off on this deal. They're surely keepin the Prez in the loop. Those are his closest advisors/handlers/zookeepers...
When shit hits the fan, he'll pretend to be ignorant of the deal, but it's public record that all those clowns, plus others, knew of this. Chertoff will be both the cheerleader and the fall guy when this is all over...
February 20th, 2006 at 8:23 pmMighty, what do you think? Or are you busy trying to find some facts that would make you feel better about this.
IRI, what do you think, I know you guys are reading, care to comment?
February 20th, 2006 at 8:24 pmFrom what I've seen, most are just as shocked as the Dems are. They're angry and pissed that they're forced to agree with the likes of Schumer and Clinton, but largely they're in agreement (if blog comments are any indication) about the idiocy of such a deal.
Seriously, how can anyone defend this? How can all the radically xenophobic conservatives (I know...redundant) attempt to justify this? Oh wait...I'm gunna guess this is...yes...of course! Clinton's fault!!!
February 20th, 2006 at 8:28 pmJust further evidence that the administration is actively trying to destroy this country from within. These guys are playing a very different game than they are talking. Oust them!
February 20th, 2006 at 8:29 pmAt least maybe Texas could be blown up, all good folks in Texas leave as soon as you can.
This is all about the money, the mid east oil money can buy anything, and these greedy sons a bitches want it. They sold out, they sold the National security of the Right Wing voting population to Arabs, I think its fricken cool, the dumb ass Right Wingers deserve this.
February 20th, 2006 at 8:31 pmMighty Aphrodite and IRI, stay in Texas, its good for you. Maybe move closer to the east coast of Texas, you will feel very safe there.

February 20th, 2006 at 8:38 pmWhere will all the arabs live in Beaumont and Corpus Christi? The company (DPW) will obviously be bringing in their own stevedores and laborers, the transition shouldn't be too bad,it's nice and warm there.
February 20th, 2006 at 8:45 pm#22 - Where will all the arabs live in Beaumont and Corpus Christi?
February 20th, 2006 at 8:51 pmI know of at least one 50,000 acre ranch that could house them. Of course, they'll have to hunt and forage for their own food.
Lucky Clinton, he was #10 on that list of Presidential blunders, but he's off the list now, because this is going straight to the top.
What a stupid, insane thing to do.
Remember, this isn't a UAE company, it is the UAE goverment.
Has any TEN administrations made as many blunders as this one has in the last 6 months?
February 20th, 2006 at 8:58 pmI can't imagine his homies are all gonna make bank on this deal.
What's a little profit at the expense of the American public (or alot of profit for that matter).
What I don't really like in myself though, is agreeing that bushco was soo tone deaf on this one. It didn't bother me when that company was owned by some Brittish Corporation, but when they sell it to a UAE group, I think there could be trouble. Is that my own racism or is that a consequence of not trusting some of the world.
A little of both probably. So, boo for me not being willing to go about trusting SOME forign groups owning us all (China) but YEAY for Kindg dumbya being such an ass that even righties see it.
What do you think we've been telling you all along?

February 20th, 2006 at 9:00 pmCongress? Congress? Hellooooooooooooooooo? Anyone home, or are you just ceding your Constitutional authority to the great Boooosh like you have over the past 6 years?
February 20th, 2006 at 9:03 pmBush and Cheney wanted the sale of the East Coast ports to be a secret transaction, but somebody snitched to the press, so now they are trying to come up with another story of why the ports are being sold > call it more LIES!
February 20th, 2006 at 9:07 pmI'll pull one out of me arse for ya. People don't attack something that they control. Haven't ya seen the 'for sale' signs on our leaders?
February 20th, 2006 at 9:11 pmAnybody know what happened to that last shipment of Cruise Missiles?
While you're at it, we gotta boatload of body armour we can't seem to find either...
Oh, and I hate to mention it, but those new tanks that were supposed to be here last month haven't arrived yet. You know, the ones shooting that depleted uranium armor piercing shells. Speaking of which.....
February 20th, 2006 at 9:12 pmWhat is it exactly that DPW will control. The contract with the stevedoring has just been renewed, the Army uses their own people to crate the equipment and then they're loaded either on a basis to maximize cargo laden or on a unit basis as described. What part of this operation is actually performed by management?
February 20th, 2006 at 9:23 pmI just don't understand the uproar over this,it's just a management contract.
Military bases have had management contracts for maintenace,Pan Am used to be the contractor for Cape Canaveral.
What is it that makes this such an outrage -other than the usual secrecy and non disclosure.
Based on the illegal and stupid invasion of Iraq, the ignoring of 52 warnings prior to 9/11 combined with the cutting of counterterrorism funds, the stand down order in Tora Bora that let Osama Bin Laden esecap, and now this, I'm beginning to suspect that the #2 and #3 members of Al Qaeda are named Ayy Georgio W Bushari and Khalif Richard Al Cheney. By the way they've governed this country, it sure seems that way.
February 20th, 2006 at 9:25 pmIf Bush and Cheney get away with the selling of the ports, then they will sell our National Parks, like Yellowstone and Yosemite, to International corporations who might build giant hotels and casinos in the parks, and allow Cheney to shoot all the game animals too!
February 20th, 2006 at 9:27 pmWhy dont they just give it to bin laden ?
I dont see why an american company cant do this.

February 20th, 2006 at 9:28 pmIt's got to be about green. Green money that is, because this is too stupid even for GW unless there's ka-ching in this thing.
February 20th, 2006 at 9:29 pmI didn't know about the Corpus and Beaumont angles. How many investigative committees do we need now? The democrats need to get off their asses and get to work!!
Look for consigliere Al "two faces" Gonzales to step forward for the familia and plead the Godfather's case. Eh, it's about business, youse gotta problem with that? Bbing, Bboom and like that. Dat's how its gonna be.
TJM,
Have you studied International Business Transactions? I have. And the more I know, the scarier it gets. My suggestion? Life insurance. A lot. And a policy that does not exclude loss of life due to war or acts of war.
February 20th, 2006 at 9:30 pmThis administration never ceases to amaze me with the stupidity they exhibit when making decisions. What fool in his right mind would conclude that selling a national asset like ports to a foreign company, who has sponsored terrorists in the past, is a good idea. All of those idiots who voted for these fools need to stand up and say, "enough is enough". Can you say, "Weapons of Mass Destruction", I hope, because they can smuggle them right in now.
Actually they won't have to smuggle them in, they can just tell the workers on the docks not to check certain containers. These guys are selling out America and the fools who voted for them don't even see it. Wake up before it's too late. I guess we better start learning to speak Arabic because the next thing they will sell it our schools.
February 20th, 2006 at 9:30 pm#33 There is already something in the works to sell off several million acres of National Forest land - allegedly to pay for rural schools. Maybe they should have used some of the tzx cuts for the filthy rich or the give-aways to the oil companies.
February 20th, 2006 at 9:33 pmOH FOR F*CK"S SAKE!!!! What in the HELL is going on here?!? It does explain why the details of this pile of crap were "classified". Soooo much easier to get away wih this SH*T, if no one can see what you are up to. Par for the course for these rotten bastages. Senators need to put the brakes on, RIGHT NOW!!! Bring it all to a screeching halt, and don't MOVE until all of this has been laid bare, for ALL to see. We must be living in the "Twilight Zone". THAT I could deal with !!But THIS???? Some BRAZEN people here. I guess I know where all of the equipment from those closed bases would be going. It would just get "lost" along the way, and the Pentagon will just shrug, and walk away.
February 20th, 2006 at 9:33 pm#33 you aren't very far off as the Naational parks are up for sale . bush has just sold our country for the Killing fields of Oil. Post 40 thot's n TN, Bush wants to sell off everything, but the money from the sale probably ends up in Swiss Bank accounts for Cheney!
Post 41 lol unbelievable > Cheney will need the animals caged first, and sedated, and watch out when he shoots since he aims for humans too!

February 20th, 2006 at 9:49 pmI don't think this issue is just about facts (who is buying what). Most of the issues we discuss are really not about the facts. If facts were everything, we'd not be in Iraq!
Facts are important, but they are certainly not everything.
We don't know most facts, and rarely would anyone have the time to get all the facts on any large decision. And even then, you'll have conflicting facts to deal with (ie. money vs. safety).
I think this is about something completely different.
But I sure am glad about the new energy breakthrough Bush is touting. Let me guess, the oil companies are going to help us and we'll all have cheap clean energy by 2008...

February 20th, 2006 at 10:13 pm2 of the 9/11 hijackers were from the UAE..
Banks in the UAE helped finance the 9/11 attacks..
The UAE government has stonewalled 9/11 investigations..
But, President Bush thinks the UAE should control ours ports.
Do you feel more secure??
February 20th, 2006 at 10:14 pmBriseadh, I've been involved in deals throughout S.A.,Europe and the Far East. It's usually about the money and this is no different. I'd feel outraged over this except for the part that if somebody really had the ability to smoke one of these ports it would ruin a lot of people's good thing and they aren't going to allow it. Sorry but if your scenario were true, which insurer would be left to make the payout?
February 20th, 2006 at 10:15 pmI suspect I'm just too familiar with these types of management contracts.
Now if these Mayors and Senators were as outraged by the pathetic squandering of resources on the DHS which results in inadequate port security in the first place,I'd feel better.
This just a xenophobic football being kicked around to make you forget how poorly this administration runs things day by day.
I guess I just don't hate Arabs enough,at least the UAE ones.
This is so stupid on the surface that it is incredible.

February 20th, 2006 at 10:27 pmI love these threads where there's money mentioned. If you go through this transaction real slow you'll see that the money part of the post is the amount DPW is paying to acquire P&O. The adminstration,as dumb as it is,is not getting any money for this. The US has the right to approve the transfer of the contract to manage the ports from P&O to DPW.
February 20th, 2006 at 10:30 pmIn other stories, the Gov. of NJ and MD are looking to see if they have any rights to approve the transfer of the contract. That's all this is; a right of the government to approve the assumption of the contract by DPW.

The 9/11 Report recommended that our seaports be beefed up with more security agents, which was supposed to mean some good paying jobs for American citizens, but the Bush Regime selling the port operations to UAE government means they will probably bring in cheap Egyptian or Pakistani workers to man the ports! This ends up as another scam to defraud American workers and sell out what little employment remains!

February 20th, 2006 at 11:59 pmOk,#80 and the rest of you. I have KNOWN for 4 years now that they were behind 9-11! I tried not to believe it but when people REALLY start digging and researching, it all makes sense and was their excuse to start invading other countries, etc. Go to http://www.reopen911.org and READ and then watch the video with the towers falling in it. See where the little puffs of smoke are BELOW where the planes hit! This helps prove the denotation of those towers! Here are some facts for you people: 1.Bush's brother Marvin worked for the same security firm of WTC, Dulles, and United. 2. The security camera's were turned off the weekend before 9-11. 3. Bush has said not once but twice that he saw the FIRST plane hit when there is NO way he could have! 4. There were at least 5 war games going on that morning of 9-11 that Cheney was in charge of,one war game actually mirrored attacks going on! One of our Air Force people had to ask was it a drill or for real! 6. The 9-11 commission was a TOTAL sham hand picked by Bush, which was TOTALLY stupid idea in FIRST place and neither public NOR Congress should have let that happen. What does it tell you people when he and Cheney and others in this lying, murdering fascist regime stalled, delayed and blocking the investigation into 9-11? That alone should have sent up red flags all over the place! I have known for 4 or more years they were behind 9-11! And have tried to warn people! Maybe now they will pay more attention and believe us in the 9-11 truth movement and join us! The Commission did NOT make them testify under oath nor seperately like they should have! WHY NOT? 6 of the so called highjackers are STILL alive! Jeb Bush signed an executive order 4 days before 9-11, authorizing the Nation Guard out in cases of "acts of terrorism" Bush stood there longer then the 7mins. people said he did! While our nation was under attack, the S.O.B. did a photo op for at least a 1/2 at school! This message will probably disappear like my other ones! I will continue this in another message, OK? As this one is getting too long. They needed an excuse to invade Iraq to steal their oil and Empire building and to also destroy our freedoms here at home, while bankrupting America!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:03 amThanks to George and Dick, I think there's hope for me becoming a conspiracy theorist. The catastrophic events of 9/11 have paid off in spades for the Bush administration. They've succeeded in setting up secret prisons, contracting out torture (to Syria - a few Canadians have experienced being shipped there secretly), launching a phoney war based lies, lies, and more lies, avoiding the fight against Al Quaeda by focussing resources in Iraq, the bungled response to Katrina, the erosion of 'homeland' security, the erosion of civil rights and liberties, arrest without charge, arrest without trial, indefinite prison terms, Abu Ghraib, the killing of thousands of civilians and soldiers in Iraq, and now this. It's got to be stopped.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:10 am#84, I am a woman! Not a guy! To get back to what is really going on and 9-11. Get the book by David Griffin, "The New Pearl Harbor" Then get the book or go to his website Mike Rubbert,"Crossing the Rubicon" where he talks about 9-11 and Cheney being in charge of war games going on that morning! You can order a FREE DVD from http://www.reopen911.org and also if you can prove those towers were NOT detonated from within and caused them to collapse, Jim,a Millionaire will pay you $1million! The head of 9-11 commission for God's sake wrote a book with Condi Rice! 9-11 commission was total sham! I will post more later but in mean time, go to http://www.reopen911.org and READ! AND LOOK AT VIDEO'S! AND RAISE HELL WITH CONGRESS OVER THOSE PORTS ISSUE AND REST OF CRAP GOING ON IN OUR BELOVED NATION! HELP SAVE HER FROM THE DOMESTIC TERRORISTS WHO ARE IN CHARGE AND RUNNING HER RIGHT INTO THE GROUND FOR OWN $$ AND SELFISH FASCIST POWER!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:10 am#86,Lesley, There IS a conspiracy going on in our nation BIG TIME! Right on sister!Welcome to the 9-11 truth movement and peace movement too! Come on the rest of you good Americans and JOIN US! Before it is too late! They are building and have 600 "detention centers" folks and they aint' for the terrorists but for us, folks! He invited a KNOWN terrorist to his State of Union speech that the 9-11 families sued over involvement in 9-11! Bin Laden used to be CIA agent! Probably still is! Our gov't outsourced catching Bin Laden in Tora bora, to the locals! GET A CLUE PEOPLE, THEY NEVER WANTED TO CATCH BIN LADEN! NEVER WANTED TO, JUST A PUT UP JOB ON PEOPLE SO WAR ON "TERRORISM" COULD GO ON WHILE DESTROYING OUR FREEDOMS IN PROCESS! NOW HE WANTS TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL FOR US TO PROTEST HIS LOUSY,MURDERING,LYING ASS, IN THE PATRIOT ACT AND GUTLESS D'S AND R'S ARE GOING ALONG WITH IT! THEY VOTE ON IT IN NEXT TWO WEEKS SO PLEASE RAISE HOLY HELL ABOUT IT AND STOP IT TOO BEFORE HE MAKES IT A CRIME TO PROTEST HIS MURDERING ASS! PLEASE, DO THIS AND SPREAD THE WORD ASAP ABOUT THIS ATTACK ON OUR FREEDOMS TOO! They are turning our nation into a 2nd Nazi, Germany right before people's eyes as not enough people pay attention and corporate whore news helps him/them by not reporting the truth! or making excuses for their asses!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:19 amIf someone like Bush can get elected and STAY elected, it can only mean there no safeguards in the constitution to protect the country from being run by criminals, lunatics, charlatans, and sociopaths. We may as well be living in Russia.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:20 amYeah #16, YEAH, MONKEYPANTS, FINALLY SOMEONE WITH A CLUE! NOW THE REST OF YOU GET ONE! THEY ARE LITERALLY DESTROYING AEMRICA FROM WITHIN AND MUST BE STOPPED AND NOW, AND OTHERS IN CONGRESS RAN OUT ON RAIL TOO, ALL THOSE EITHER D'S OR R'S WHO SUPPORT THIS ADMINSTRATION ON ANYTHING! AND BRING ALL OUR TROOPS HOME AND NOW, AND HAVE OUR TROOPS ARREST BUSH AND REST OF AHOLES AND NOW BEFORE THEY SELL OFF MORE OF AMERICA TO THEIR FRIENDS THE REAL TERRORISTS!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:21 amOf course, the Carlyle Group was involved in the purchase of CSX in 2002/03 so ...well, they profit!

Protecting America's Seaports and Securing Cargo Shipments
February 21st, 2006 at 12:23 am
Sue,
Please stop with the all caps. it is very difficult to read.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:24 amLesley, You mean Nazi Germany as they are evil fascists and people need to WAKE up to that fact and ASAP! Before they put in prison ALL of us protestors!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:27 amI will discuss this tomorrow more but PLEASE get the word out about this ASAP! We MUST get our troops or someone to arrest them ASAP! And spread the word about not only ports but him trying through the Patriot act to stop us protestors from protesting him! He wants to make it a crime to protest him! PLEASE RAISE HELL AS MUCH OVER THIS ISSUE AS THE PORTS, ALSO! THE DAMN GUTLESS CORPORATE WHORES IN CONGRESS SHOULD HAVE FILIBUSTERED THIS BUT DIDN'T AND NOW IT IS UP FOR A VOTE IN ABOUT A WEEK AND HALF! RAISE HOLY HELL ABOUT THIS TOO BEFORE HE BECOMES A DICTATOR!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:30 amGoogle Operation Cable Splicer and Operation Garden Spot and spread the word!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:31 amNow in case you are expecting me to support this one - you'd be wrong.
The only people who should be moving military cargo are 1. military personnel and 2. military contractors.
The Navy has very large transport ships and the army does as well (which is an oddity, in my mind).
It's also customary for the military to charter a vessel (through one of the various ship brokers) to move cargo.
This is a sensitive topic for me because I really despise the complete outsourcing of military responsibilities. Extending it to Iraq, such policies seem to just reinforce the compound type mentality. After all, civilians aren't going to work in the field.
Of course there is a distinction between military equipment and stuff that will be consumed/used by the military. The former is a much greater issue because they can be tampered with. UAE isn't even the issue there - the only people who should be loading stuff that people need to work when they're fighting should be the military folks who understand that.
As for the dual purpose stuff like clothing, etc I see less of a concern there.
See Katy, I'm only all about DPW's private sector operations:) Military shipment is in the public domain and should be generally treated as such.
That said, when I moved back from S. Korea and then again from Germany our stuff was shipped by container. I don't expect that sort of shipment to pose a threat.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:33 amI was a dependent, not military in case that matters at all. Although I would say my childhood was a sacrifice - 9 different places is such a drag on friendships.
Oh, Corpus Christi was/is an army depot. I'd imagine the port is probably military controlled? Just another reason why there's no reason to change crane operators:)
seriously though, you're picking two contracts that are meaningless in terms of P&Os total revenues. Losing that contract, which SHOULD OCCUR, won't be anywhere near a 'hit' to DPW.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:36 amEven the Right Wingers are not on board with this, go to and read the recent post about the topic. It's bad all the way around. And you notice the trolls are avoiding the subject here also. God forbid the likes of IRI, and Mighty have to admit this is wrong.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:36 amEven the Right Wingers are not on board with this, go to sistertoldjah.com and read the recent post about the topic. It’s bad all the way around. And you notice the trolls are avoiding the subject here also. God forbid the likes of IRI, and Mighty have to admit this is wrong.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:39 amTrust me,folks! This is only the continueing evil, insane PNAC plans of theirs! You want to talk about a conspiracy theory, Google PNAC! And it is true! There is a HUGE conspiracy going on not only in U.S. but the worldwide war on "terrorism" is bogus and just an excuse for the march of worldwide fascism! Google PNAC and read! And share the info.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:40 amI just read an interesting article on the Internet tonight that some members of the GOP, in the Congress, want a NEW Sedition Act so that anyone who criticizes the Bush Regime,
February 21st, 2006 at 12:40 amor their wars for oil, can be arrested for treason against the state! This proves that the Bush lovers are fascists and that freedom is dying in our America! If this law is passed there will be NO blogs like this one, or anyone daring to post either, because doing so will probably mean being sent to a Gulag Labor Camp?!
Practicing HTML here, I'll try it again.
Even the Right Wingers are not on board with this, go to sistertoldjah.com and read the recent post about the topic. It’s bad all the way around. And you notice the trolls are avoiding the subject here also. God forbid the likes of IRI, and Mighty have to admit this is wrong.
BTW if you post any Prog messages there, she will delete them fast like.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:44 amThe P&O contract with the military probably has a 'change of control' clause in it. Meaning that the contract can be voided/looked at if someone buys them, which happened.
There are many, many companies that can run those ports. DPW would give it up in a heartbeat to get rid of the attention.
I believe Corpus Christi was a munitions terminal. Not sure about the present day incarnation of it.
As for the great idea that no foreigners should own ports I think that should be no foreigners who are not subject to PUBLIC scrutiny should hold foreign ports. Such rejection should be security related. Note PUBLIC. I don't like the entirely private nature of the approvals.
As for the idea that the ports should be publicly run, which alot of people are suggesting, they were at one point. Then the govt realized that 1. it was inefficient and 2. the longshoremen were too 'strong'. For a modern day example of a statist port system, look no further than Israel where longshoremen drive Jaguars, BMWs and Mercedes to work:)
February 21st, 2006 at 12:44 amWe need to run their asses out of Congress and NOW too! ASAP! Before the Gestpo gets us! Now Bush says bloggers are "terrorists" WHILE HE/THEY ARE IN BED WITH REAL TERRORISTS! FOLKS, IT IS TIME FOR ALL GOOD AMERICAN'S TO RAISE TO HER AIDE AND GET THESE S.O.B'S OUT OF OFFICE ASAP! OUR FOREFATHERS ARE ROLLING OVER IN THEIR GRAVES! DON'T LET FEAR,MANIPULATION AND CONTINOUS LIES, LIES AND MORE LIES DESTROY AMERICA FROM WITHIN! DEMAND CONGRESS STOP THE PATRIOT ACT,PERIOD AS IT WAS ONLY MEANT TO SUPPRESS US U.S. CITIZENS AND NOT THE REAL TERRORISTS,2. Demand ALL our troops home and NOW 3. Demand Congress either have Bush and others arrested for TREASON or get out themselves!4. Demand Congress stop another illegal, unnecessary war on Iran, further bankrupting AMerica and spread the word about our civil liberites being under attack! And NOW and tell people they were behind 9-11 too because they were! And all this proves it! Hopefully there are STILL enough good people in Congress to stop this crap!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:46 amAmerican's need to get up off their dead asses and protest BIG time in the streets and NOW! If they value America at all! And our freedoms, too!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:47 amNote:
Expect a release in the near future from DPW stating something like this "DPW transferred it's military handling concession to X as it was a noncore operation that did not fit into our plans for the future"
Yah, they'll relinquish it, sell it, or trade it. I'm betting they sell it on for ZERO to some US firm.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:47 amDubai would control part of U.S. military shipments under Bush scheme...
As discussed here (nofollowpolicy), the Bush scheme to sell off port operations in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia to a company controlled by the United Arab Emirates has even more......
February 21st, 2006 at 12:48 am#102 They ALREADY have the camps set up! WAKE UP YOU DUMB ASSES THESE LYING,MURDERING FASCISTS ARE DESTROYING AMERICA FROM WITHIN! STAND UP NOW WHILE WE STILL CAN! AND PROTEST LIKE HELL, OUR NATION WAS FOUNDING ON IT! The damn GOP that wants this needs to be arrested by our troops ASAP too! Our troops can and must arrest these people ASAP! The troops take an oath to obey the Constitution and defend U.S. and it against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic and these aholes are definitely domestic terrorists!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:51 amWho is TREASONOUS, is those aholes who let and even help Bush destroy our nation from within and they need to go too! And NOW!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:52 amIf Al Quaeda does have close ties with the UAE, it must be jumping for joy because its biggest export and source of income (in Afghanistan, at least) is heroin. And the ports are poorly patrolled as it is.
On his show last Friday, Bill Maher said the rules for eligibility in the US armed forces have been relaxed. People who have uttered terrorist threats, have criminal records (even violent pasts), or drug and alcohol addiction histories may now qualify. They're scraping the bottom of the barrel for recruits. Or maybe these make ideal candidates in the 'new world order.' I wonder how long it will be before Bush tries to bring in conscription. It would never fly of course. I almost wish he would because it would mean the end of him. (It would also be fun to watch the right wing shitbags who support the war, so long as they and their kids don't have to fight in it, squirm.)
February 21st, 2006 at 12:55 amJay,
your post #102, could you post the link?
February 21st, 2006 at 1:06 amPost 111 Lesley > maybe the Bush lovers think that Bush will just draft Democrats Children? Some Repubs have told me crap like that and believe it! I know that if Bush does a draft, then somehow his daughters and Cheney's daughters will be exempt from it! Sen. Hillary Clinton would send Chelsea to Europe to be exempt too, and all the rest of the Senators as well! An unfair draft would ignite this nation into open Civil War, especially if wealthy Repub kids are exempt > I knew 2006 is going to be a bad year!
Sue > be cautious in posting because Bush spies might put you on the list for an internment camp > this can happen?!
February 21st, 2006 at 1:09 ammaybe i'm simplifying the whole "privatization of the planet" vs. government run entities debacle, but this sounds like something the American government should take control of, not private companies.
i don't care who the private company is! whether it's an israli or arab country or the most red-blooded of american companies. it's a job for the government, not corporations, to maintain the safety and security of our ports.
February 21st, 2006 at 1:10 amPost 112 I will look for the article > will be back shortly.
February 21st, 2006 at 1:13 amif only i had the time, the maritime act? of 2002 would be worth reading.
from what i vaguely know about it, the law requires that domestic operations are to remain with American companies.
however, the very small parts of the law that i'm familiar with are pre-Bush laws. he could have had them changed by now. who is the head of the Administrative Agency in charge of regulating our ports?
what's the name of the Administrative Agency that regulates our ports?
these are things to investigate.....if only I had the time.
February 21st, 2006 at 1:13 amit's the maritime transportation safety act of 2002
http://www.house.gov/transportation/cgmt/06-09-04/06-09-04memo.html
February 21st, 2006 at 1:17 amit appears that teh Coast Guard is responsible for regulating our ports, so who is the head honcho of the Coast Guard?
February 21st, 2006 at 1:18 amBriseadh na Faire > here is the information you requested:
February 21st, 2006 at 1:22 amarticle was just posted on prisonplanet.com tonight > "New Wingnut Meme: Sedition Law Needed." by Booman Tribune, February 21, 2006. Please check it out > posted on near top of prisonplanet main page on left side!
Rear Admiral Larry Hereth Director of Port SEcurity US Coast Guard
what kind of guy is this? what kind of relationship does he have to georgie porgie? was he invovled with this deal? approving it? did he even KNOW about it? just wonder what this man has to say about it
http://www.house.gov/transportation/cgmt/06-09-04/hereth.pdf
February 21st, 2006 at 1:25 amIf you wrote it into a movie script, people would have walked out before the second reel.
February 21st, 2006 at 1:25 amhere's another guy that should be interviewed, and we should watch and see whether Bush appoints someone else to head the Maritime Administration, since his title is the "'Acting' Maritime Administrator"
http://www.marad.dot.gov/Offices/johnjamian.html
February 21st, 2006 at 1:30 amThe UAE now controls our ports? That makes me feel so much safer. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 21st, 2006 at 1:39 amgo back to sleep America, your government is in control again.
February 21st, 2006 at 1:43 am#87 - I know you're a woman, I STILL WANT TO HAVE YOUR BABY.
February 21st, 2006 at 1:47 amLOL post 124 > Big Brother Bush is watching over us now huh?
February 21st, 2006 at 1:47 amPimp my ports...
It has happened again. George W. Bush has united left and right, Democrats and Republicans, in this country against one of his decisions......
February 21st, 2006 at 1:58 amMaybe Bush is a true genius far beyond our comprehension. Maybe he has decided to bring them over here so we don't have to fight them over there.
Makes sense, you know...the cost of fuel...jet lag...all the comforts of home...
February 21st, 2006 at 2:16 amMaybe or maybe not. I see this decision affecting both sides of the isle in a uniting fashion....AGAINST BUSH
February 21st, 2006 at 2:24 amOkay, I finally copmlied all this stuff. This whole deal stinks and the Bush administration knows it, That is why they classified it. To cover it up. Check this out. Buried at the bottom of page two:
Washington Post
February 17, 2006
White House Defends Port Sale to Arab Co.
There is also this on the first page:
Who are the twelve? Time to go hunting again. The blog so far: UAE Protecting Our Ports?
February 21st, 2006 at 2:30 amcomment # 3
It couldn’t be stranger if they tried. Let’s just give them the keys to the Pentagon while we’re at it, and maybe throw in the NSA…
Precisely what many of us deduce: they ARE trying.
comment #4 Chertoff’s half-answers that included a whole bunch of “that’s classified/secret†only lends me to believe this is deal is something much bigger than just port ownership.
Familiar, isn't it. Chertoff just utters "classified" to avoid complete answers. Gonzalez didn't have to swear to tell the truth about NSA domestic spying, so he probably didn't feel compelled. Alito. Roberts. Oil execs. No one is telling the whole truth. New Orleans? They don't care.
Shoot a man in the face, keep it quiet for a day to sober up, let the victim apologize. Cheney's got better things to do.
Who, indeed, would help a terrorist-friendly nation gain control of our ports during wartime?
February 21st, 2006 at 2:40 amCome on! You're using FoxNews as your source on this??? I'm sorry but if you want to go hysterical on this subject you'll have to provide a more credible source.
I'm just curious as to how the progressive blog world has suddenly embraced the same views as held by Michelle Malkin and FoxNews. Did we eat Alice's mushroom and come out talking like the neocons and Arab haters like LGF? If so, everybody eat some more so you can resume thinking and arguing as progressives.
This is a stinky, racist & highly politicized controversy. It's not worthy of progressives to take the positions I've seen advocated here and elsewhere.
February 21st, 2006 at 2:49 amThis is a set up by the neocons, for pete's sake.
They are selling us down the river, and want to get us really ticked off so they can declare martial law. However, we have the law on our side.
I think it would be a good idea for everyone to pray for America, and to call all the Republican senators tomorrow, along with the Hose, and tell them to impeach Bush and Cheney, or to have them removed because they are deranged. I am quite serious about this.
February 21st, 2006 at 3:21 amNumber 132, the paragraph you cite and object to contains facts ABOUT GOVERNMENTS. Just because we all agree the US government is evil-sordid-cuckoo, doesn't mean other governments aren't equally (which is why nobody, at least in this thread, wants the UAE running American ports). It has NOTHING to do with the populations of countries, race, creed, dress, religion, etc. Obviously we're not judging Lybians or North Koreans or Iranians..duh.
Aaaargh. I can't stand the stupidity any more.
February 21st, 2006 at 3:30 amOh I didn't realize Silverstein was another wacked out troll. I just read his little essay supporting the UAE decision. In his view, Bush is the great healer of our time. Richard, I suggest you live in the UAE for a year and see how you like the public beheadings. Yeah, that's "good" government.
February 21st, 2006 at 3:38 amRichard Silverstein may very well be right in his take on this issue. There is an excellent analysis on Daily Kos that lays out most of the facts and filters out most of the hysteria about this deal.
Give it a read before we start reacting like the loons at the Free Republic.
February 21st, 2006 at 4:32 amCall me paranoid- This is a beautiful plan- Daibolical but brilliant- Ive been trying to figure out.. How would the Bush Administration orchestrate a Terorrist Attack that would give them the reasons to declare an indefinite postponement of the elections, with this President continuing the role of Commander in Chief,in times of endless war' a necessary precaution for the security of the American People.
February 21st, 2006 at 4:49 amLook at the lead- up to it..The preperation for unchallanged executive power is in the works- restrictions of Civil Liberties, including the internet (Google, Yahoo,Microsoft case)
All they had to do was to open the stable-door for the Trojan Horse/UAE

February 21st, 2006 at 5:27 am#139, missed your medication today? All that shouting does not help clarify matters nor does it help convince anybody about anything. I understand from your post that you already know all that you will ever need to know about everything but, as a matter of curiosity, did you bother to read the diary I had linked?
February 21st, 2006 at 5:43 am#6, What damn Koolaid are you drinking you dumb ass! Our nation is in the shape it is because of blind sheep like you who have totally faith and blindness in these fascist, lying, murdering S.O.B's! February 21st, 2006 at 5:58 amI hate to say this but to all you folks who called Lyndon LaRouche a conspiracy theorist - do you get it now?
We have been onto these guys for 30 years with a consistent message, that an economic collapse would lead to fascism - just like in Nazi Germany.
Time is running out to resist these people.
Mass political action is required, and fast.
February 21st, 2006 at 6:04 amNow you being to understand how feels every country with a military facilities of the USA in his territory... ask iraqis.
February 21st, 2006 at 6:23 amThis is off topic but must be read;

This is a real army regulation, dated 14 Janurary 2005, wonder why they need it?
February 21st, 2006 at 6:32 amIf anybody wanted to prove what a bunch of hypocrites progressives are, they couldn't have come up with a better case than this. In 2000,when P&O took over operations of these ports,it was because no American company bid on the contract. So the English company won the contract by default.
February 21st, 2006 at 6:59 amNow comes DPW buying P&O and with it these contracts. The government has to approve the transfer of the contract as part of the deal.
Now people are up in arms because the purchaser of the contract is an Arab company. I just can't understand why, knowing this makes you look about as anti-Arab as you could be,people here(the open, multicultural site of progressive thinking) would want to look like craven jackasses.
You have collectively ridiculed Karen Hughes et al for their approach to the Middle East and yet here you are,arm-in-arm with the right, crying out against Arabs.
You don't look too progressive.
Yah! Maybe next Bush can sell the Amber Waves of Grain to the Iran...
February 21st, 2006 at 7:05 amTJM its about a Foreign Gov., Owning Important Pieces of American Ports. This foreign Power has links to Bin Bush Laden. That's what's its about. Gop Gov are threatening to sue to stop this Sale. if this was a bid from a private Arab company I don't there would be as laarge of an outcry but a Goverment. Remember when China was going to buy a US Oil Company there was also an Outcry and that got stopped.
I bet if Chavez was trying to buy something US the bandarbush cabal would stop him in a heartbeat!
February 21st, 2006 at 7:28 amI wonder what the deal is that George Bush has made with Saudi Arabia. You can be sure that the industrial/military/energy complex is greatly benefiting from this deal.
February 21st, 2006 at 7:50 amNonetheless, the Department of Homeland Security was/is/will be responsible for the security of the ports. Nothing will change in that regard. Do you think, then, that DPW will be infiltrated by people smarter and more capable than DHS.That can't be the case, the UK is about as diverse as their empire was. Do you think, then, that P&O could never have been similarly infiltrated?
February 21st, 2006 at 7:55 amAmericans will still be doing the work, the union stevedoring in Texas will still be lading the ships. In large part, nothing will change.
Democrats are asses!

February 21st, 2006 at 8:38 amSue, as much as I have complaints about the current administration, when you state that Bush was behind 9-11 you lose all credibility. We all (I at least hope) know Bin Laden was behind that. I also believe (as well as a majority of the world) that the war in Afghanistan was justified. I think that's what bothered me the most about the war in Iraq. Bush talked about being "resolute" in finding Bin Laden, yet, showed none. If we could drop 120,000 troops into Iraq, why couldn't we have dropped 120,000 into a country where we knew Bin Laden was? Old grudges die hard I guess.
February 21st, 2006 at 8:39 amI find the hypocrisy of the Bush administration amazing.
He beats us over the head with "security, security, security".... and "links to terrorists, links to terrorists, links to terrorists".... and "Al-Quaeda, Al-Quaeda, Al-Quaeda"
Then okays a deal that threatens our security by selling off 6 US ports to a company in a country with known links to terrorists and harbors Al-Quaeda.
Do as I say, not as I do, I guess. Right, Bush?
February 21st, 2006 at 8:48 amBush has been getting away with a lot of things over the last five years. I'm not at all surprised that he thinks he can get away with activities of this magnitude at this point. He's teflon at this point.
What's worse is that I fully expect him to get away with this as well.

Comment by mike — February 21, 2006 @ 8:05 am
Wow, Mike - come up with that all on your own? Bush would need a speech writer to craft such intellectual repartee'. How ever do you do it? Sheer genius and dedication? Someone should give you an award for that.
February 21st, 2006 at 8:53 amBin Laden was captured in Pakistan 2 years ago .....I have proof but nobody will come forward
its all a game to Bush he wants to stay in Afghanistan cause of a little gas pipeline..Thats more important than admitting bin laden is living in a Mansion in North eastern pakistan... American troops would leave Afghanistan in that scenario
Also Bin Laden was helped by the CIA to manage 911 on behalf of Bushwill come out soon
February 21st, 2006 at 8:54 amCome on people, credibility is lost when you make such crazy claims such as "Bin Laden was helped by the CIA" and "Bin Laden was captured 2 years ago" (you know you don't really have proof) Face it, Bin Laden is a real terrorist, who really creates terrorism. "If your gonna carry around pictures of Chairman Mao, you're not gonna make it with anyone, anyhow" Crazy claims won't get people on your side. Now, what we really need is better foreign policy, while creating a more efficient domestic security apparatus.
February 21st, 2006 at 9:04 amI'm not an American, but judging from the way you people talk to each other on these forums, you don't need any external forces to tear yourselves apart from the inside. Sue, my dear......... I've met my share of whackos (mostly in the UFO area, as I studied space science) but you are far above any of them in insanity, incoherence, and flat-out rudeness. You can find information that says anything on the internet, but it takes a true gullible fool to believe it.
February 21st, 2006 at 9:13 amThanks for the words of encouragement, Jeff (159).
I've become more convinced over time that bin Laden is a tool. After all, we did "use" him during the whole pipeline business in Afghanistan and the Russian incursion. Also, it's no secret that the Bushes and the bin Ladens go way back--f'rinstance, the only people allowed to fly into (actually out of) U.S. airspace after 9/11 were the bin Laden family--they were being shipped out to "safety".
Also, the videotape where bin Laden "admits" to masterminding the 9/11 attacks doesn't even star the real bin Laden:
http://tinyurl.com/qy4r6
Now why would someone go through the trouble of filming a fake "Fatty bin Laden" to give us the BOOGA BOOGA?
February 21st, 2006 at 9:21 amI've read all the comments, and I have to say thank you for the info tracing the CSX relationships to this contract. It seems to me that ALL of the actual human beings in America should be concerned as to the extent that UAE would be responsible for port inspections, etc. We've all acknowledged that our ports are already a weak security link, and my impression is that we, the people, should insist on transparency in who is responsible for this decision and further insist that Americans and only Americans should be in charge of this type of business. I cannot believe that this is a smart move at all. As a subpoint, Sue. I actually share many of your beliefs. However, your posts here appear to be hysterical instead of logical. Realistically, there may be nothing that any of us can do about any of it. I, too, hate what America is turning into these days, but nobody is going to arrest or impeach Bush or Cheney. It is doubtful that they will be restrained in any way. Why not find the most logical articles to support your viewpoint, type up a list of links, and place them in the news and magazine section of your local library and on other blogs? Try to eliminate references to bodily parts. And if you really want to get paranoid, go to the actual text of the House Patriot Act Renewal and look at Section 605, which establishes a permanent SECRET SERVICE POLICE FORCE, with the power to make warrantless arrests against the Bill of Rights. Yes, our very own SS, our modern version of the Gestapo.
February 21st, 2006 at 9:27 amUNBELIEVABLE! To what point must we get before we rid ourselves of this cancer we call the Bush administration? Next, we'll find Bush in photographs with Osama similar to those found in the Abramoff scandal, where he'll mention he's been in hundreds of photo-ops with terrorists. I would prefer an uneducated man such as Hugo Chavez making such stupid decisions over a man who has attended one our finest ivy leagues and sells our ports to the same government who secretly sponsored terrorism.
February 21st, 2006 at 9:29 amFolks, there's nothing to worry about. The company in charge of security at the World Trade Center was Saudi.
February 21st, 2006 at 9:33 amJust another of a long list of examples of one oil man, (Bush), rubbing another oil man's back, (UAE). Why is everyone so surprised that Bush and his cronies have put his family ties and continued business relationships with the Arabs ahead of the best interest of America? He may say he did not know of the deal until recently, but I have a hard time believing that these "lovers" did not know a long time ago. Deals like this do not get done over night or in a vacuum. Believing that is almost as ludicrous as beliving the oil man will really do something when he says we have to kick our addition to oil. Lip service at it's finest.
February 21st, 2006 at 9:35 amAnd if you really want to get paranoid, go to the actual text of the House Patriot Act Renewal and look at Section 605, which establishes a permanent SECRET SERVICE POLICE FORCE, with the power to make warrantless arrests against the Bill of Rights. Yes Beth this is very scary stuff but most Americans don't know and many more don't care until the day comes when they are hiding in their closet whispering to each other like they do in North Korea.
bush has his handpicked adminstration behind this. New York Daily News has the scoop.
February 21st, 2006 at 9:42 amThere is a H. Res. 635 to impeach Bush. There are 24 Representative that are co-sponsoring this. Write to your Representative in your state to get them to sponsor this.
We need to take our America back.

February 21st, 2006 at 9:46 amAs I sit here completely flabergasted at the blantant stupidity of the administration, I cannot help but think about 9/11. I guess they have just forgotten or the loss did not hit close enough to home for those sitting in Washington. Maybe if they had lost a mother/father/son/daughter/sister/brother...someone directly related, it would be more important to them to protect our ports. Or, maybe they are the devil in disguise and it is all about the $$$$$$!!!! Either way, we the everyday citizens... are screwed. I just hope someone THEY love deeply is lost next time. Because there will be next time. God help us all!!!
February 21st, 2006 at 9:51 amI am sick to death of all the hand-wringing liberals pissin' and moanin' about this looking like anti-Arab xenophobia. Gee - I wonder why we Dems loose elections? If the local mayor cuts an under-the-table deal to put his buddy the African-American child molester in charge of the local day-care and I protest, is it because I'm racist? Cripe.
This is transferring port operations from a private UK company to a government-owned UAE company. The same UAE that has consistently been accused by several countries of helping bankroll and protect al Qaeda. And the transaction will line the pockets of CSX and DPW share-holders John Snow & David Sanborn -- and likely others in the administration. Imagine the stink here and over at Kos if Halliburton were given this contract... Well DPW is Halliburton + al Qaeda ties. Dump the xenophobia schtick.
February 21st, 2006 at 9:57 amAlain, I posit that if today the Bush admin were to disappear, we would be happy, yes, but in the same position. Why?
Because it is We the People that have allowed this, and We, being the same People, will allow it again.
We really need to understand what has happened and correct the source of the problem, and not spend all our time on the smaller issues. Or we will be here for a very long time...
February 21st, 2006 at 10:03 amI find it very coincidental that 911 happenned while Bush's precidency already was looking like a lame duck; both times that Bin Laden tapes surfaced as a threat were when the polls were showing the Democrats gaining steam (they got sqashed after the tapes)and the entire Bin Laden family was given safe passage out of the US flying when no other plane was leaving the ground....and now this, major ports handed over to them (Saudis).....how is this for an out of whack Conspiracy Theory....The Saudis (including Bin Laden) are in cajouts with Bush and his administration, and as long they keep us all scared to death and in a state of war, they can continue to get away with murder and put their ducks in a row for Global control.
February 21st, 2006 at 10:04 amReading through the posts, one thing is clear. Many are ignoring that this kind of behavior, (the selling of America's security) goes way back, as long as I can remember, (the 60's). It has always been the policy of our government to make the rich wealthy and the poor destitute regardless of the long term affects or the bedfellows one must sleep with. Need proof? Demestically, look at the history of student loan cuts, pell grant cuts, the fall of community colleges, the croneism in politics and tax breaks for the rich, ( and don't give me that trickle down sh*t about the tax cuts, the trickle stops at about $200,000 per year). Globally, look at the history of the appointment of friends with no expirience to diplomatic or advisery positions, the willingness to overlook or bury detrimental policies by foreign governments in order to secure the financial wealth of the American elite, the backing of terrorists to meet the needs of the American rich, the oil crises of the 70's and the lack of response to persue alternate energies. Had we gone with any reasonable plan back then, we would be free of dependence on oil, but that would make the bush family and other like them less powerful and less rich, which would not do. Given, alternate fuels were not exactly proven or "cheap", but we can but a man on the moon in 9 years but can't develope alternate energies in 40 years? How about taking the subsidies for farmers not to grow corn( and other foods), and put it into refineries for ethonal and the infrastructure to dispense it instead? Tell the farmers they are on there own, but the gov will buy as much corn as they can grow and pay them a fair price for it. The cost would be less than the cost of oil, we would keep the money in the US and people would be working. The US auto makers have said that vaible hydrogyn cars, are 10 years away, but Germany has them now. Whats the matter, the rich are not going to make money, so the technology is kept out? All this plays into our national security. But the issue isn'e really about National security, it is about security for the elite in this country and to hell with everyone else.
February 21st, 2006 at 10:04 amMr. Doggity, you are full of dog SHIT.

February 21st, 2006 at 10:08 amAnd another thing....
I have read that the Bush Regime is going to use the following talking point about PORTGATE...
Anybody who is against the UAE ports deal is an anti-Arab bigot.
This is NOT about bigotry. This is about NATIONAL SECURITY.
Chimpy is going to get us all killed. Just wait and see.

Bush and the Saudis are so in love they walk together holding hands. There is only one "Custom" that I am aware of that supports that open display of affection between men. Embracing and cheek kissing are accepted in some societies. Hand holding to the best of my knowledge is not accepted among men.
February 21st, 2006 at 10:23 amWhy bother to have an America?
Why bother to have freedom?
It has become such a cumbersome task.
February 21st, 2006 at 10:24 amwith any luck, the impeachment process will commence soon, removing the reins from america's biggest threat?
February 21st, 2006 at 10:25 amBeen gone a while. Gotta go skiing sometimes. Last week was one of them.
Let's see, some new trolls, some new progrerssives.
to the bushies that think we progressives are being xenophobic because we object to a UAE government owned corporation controlling 6 ports: Go look at the righty sites & then get back to us and tell us who is a hypocrite. Guess this is more than just a "liberal nutcase" issue, so stick your comments about us being crazy, xenophobic, hypocritical where the sun don't shine. We don't hold a candle to the likes of redstate, lil green footballs, etc on this one.
to the new progressives on board: Stop yelling at us (sue). We catch enough crap from our resident trolls without you comming in here and screaming at us and telling us we're a bunck of whiny wimps. We are on the same side, what do you think we've been talking about for the last couple of years before you logged on here.
I wish I was back in Tahoe. See ya all later....
February 21st, 2006 at 10:25 amJoe......really, how do YOU know that Bin Laden was behind the 9/11 attacks?..... I only know what I read and what I am told by the government run news.
February 21st, 2006 at 10:25 amDon't you think it very strange that we have the greatest military power on earth....the best special forces teams.....the deepest pockets and yet.....we cannot find the perpetrator of 9/11? I am amazed at how no one can see the hypocrisy of this entire travesty. We humans...not "Americans"..... are suffering a lethal tragedy on many levels. First and foremost we "Americans" did not write the book on human suffering.......we have been the instigator of many a horror....so why are we so indignant about what happened on 9/11? It seems like the saying "what goes around comes around" well may be in play at this time in our evolution......some people call it Karma. Second....we really need to stop labeling and classifying everyone on the planet. We all share in the fact that under our flags, our language, our clothes...we are ALL human.
This Administation is souless....the people that comprise our Governing system have lost their way. There is a very good article on G.W. that I am sure you will all enjoy reading. It is profound and eye opening.here is the link:www.AwakenInTheDream.com
Also, Joe, if you can find proof positive that Bin Laden was behind 9/11 I would appreciate it. Until then I would believe ANYTHING.
I'm sorry, but the same people who support this, gave us the bullshit line about the "Mushroom Cloud" coming from Irag, which was a lie, there is no way I support or believe any of these people. There is something going on behind our backs, besides the illegal wiretapping, and I for one am fed up with this administration. Would somebody in the Senate or Congress or any one else please tell these idiots, that they should consult the American people before they make an important decision like this. Our constitution states "WE THE PEOPLE" not "Bush and his republican cronies." This group of people our nuts to believe we will let this decision go through.

What's even more amazing, is how Rubublicans just smile and bow and look up to this Administration... reminds me of the pictures and old news reels of Hitler. Something else thats troubling, is the Democrats are DOING NOTHING. Like I said... I smell a FUCKING RAT!
February 21st, 2006 at 10:37 amI am speculating that the Bush admin is just fine with this because the "war on terror" is a ruse, and they know who was really behind 911, which was no-one in the UAE.

February 21st, 2006 at 10:49 amIf you don't think bushco knew 9-11 was coming, and wanted it, to use as their own 'pearl harbor event', to help justify invading iraq, I think you may be wearing just slightly rose tinted glasses.
It just adds up that way to me.
February 21st, 2006 at 10:59 am#7: Since when is this country for sale??? GW must have taken a hint from Donald Trump who sold off Manhattan real estate to Japan.
February 21st, 2006 at 11:02 amLet's not also forget that they would have knowledge of where military equipment is going before it goes there!
February 21st, 2006 at 11:09 amAnd now it turns out that the UAE company who Bushco is putting in charge of our major ports also has ties to members of the administration:
"The Dubai firm that won Bush administration backing to run six U.S. ports has at least two ties to the White House. One is Treasury Secretary John Snow; the other is David Sanborn."
Gee -- you mean the bushniks are in Dubai's pocket on this??? Go go figger, huh?
February 21st, 2006 at 11:10 amAbsolute proof that Bush and his people are profiting from the DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA. This began during WWII with the Bush family's war profiteering from investment in Nazi Germany and continues today with the close financial ties with Muslim countries and companies that do not have our best interest at heart to say the least.

February 21st, 2006 at 12:03 pmHatch can say the deal is cool because his state is in the middle of North America, landlocked with no ports, and Utah has nothing of interest that terrorists would ever consider blowing up! Mormons like Hatch live in a fantasy world and they like many wives the same as Arabs do as well!
At some point in the near future, Scott McClellan will address this issue by reminding us of how the president believes in the free market. When that moment comes, here's what you do: Light a fire in your fireplace, pour yourself a glass of chablis, take a Xanax and crack open John Perkins' book, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. Throw in a little Al Jerou for added ambience.

Welcome back. Unfortunately, after a weekend long argument with a 9/11 conspiracy theorist, I'm afraid that it seems to be running amok in here... And paranoia from the left isn't any more charming that it is from the right.
Tahoe is gorgeous... Hope you had a nice vacation. I think I'm long overdue myself...
February 21st, 2006 at 12:34 pmI-R-I thinks the UAE deal most be OK because Jimmy Carter thinks it's no problem > lol. So Hatch, Bush, and I-R-I give the deal approval, so we must all approve of it? NOT!
February 21st, 2006 at 12:37 pmAnd so the plot thickens, none of this is neither here nor there. It doesnt take a genuis to see... if it smells like sh*t, looks like sh*t, its sh*t. In the end, the american people are the problem, not the government. If the people woke up!, took action... it would have never gotten this far. This will never be won, the tables will never turn, until ignorant, blind worshippers of bush take responsability for the mess they allowed to happen and put in as much effort to get these guys out, as they did fighting to get them in. Admit you where wrong, turn around...take action before its to late.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:53 pmImagine if Jimmy Carter were president and he allowed this to happen on his watch. The conservatives (i.e. enemies of freedom) would blow a collective gasket. Bush is interested in national security when it makes him money or increases his power. Inconveniences like providing soldiers with equipment and protecting ports doesn't make him any money.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:57 pmI'm stunned at every turn when I hear some other thing that Bush has done only to turn on AM radio and hear about how perfect he is in every way, and that if he says it's safe than it must be.
Your article is misleading. You write:
"The sale of P&O to Dubai World Ports would give the state-owned company control of 'the ports of New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia.'"
Then you add, "According to the journal Army Logistician 'Almost 40 percent of the Army cargo deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom flows through these two ports.'"
But that article is talking about two ports in Texas, Port of Beaumont and the Port of Corpus Christi, not New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami or Philadelphia.
I am sorry but you cannot afford to be sloppy, it only servers them later when they use it to discredit you.
February 21st, 2006 at 1:07 pmIs it true that Dubai World Ports (DWP) is managed/owned by some Americans?
February 21st, 2006 at 1:16 pm(http://www.dpiterminals.com/dpworld_main.asp)
Ugh. Yes. I'm an idiot. The sale of P&O to Dubai World Ports would by default give them P&O's renewed contract with the United States Surface Deployment and Distribution Command at the Texan ports of Beaumont and Corpus Christi through 2010.
Don't mind me...
February 21st, 2006 at 1:17 pm#158. bin Laden and the Taliban was funded by the CIA in the 80s to fight the Soviet Union.
February 21st, 2006 at 1:20 pmfinally I-right-i logs in. Where have you guys been? Your stand in's haven't done too good a job.
I'm curious though... In your post, you didn't mention how YOU FEEL about this company running the 6 ports. How do YOU FEEL about that iri?
February 21st, 2006 at 1:36 pmThe bottom line is that this is situation is not turning over port security to an Arab company. The USA will still be handling the security duty. President Bush did not know of this until it hit the headlines in the newspapers. End of story.
February 21st, 2006 at 2:08 pmYeah - thats it hand over our ports to the Arabs - then lets hand over our forests to the lumberjacks - then lets hand over our Banks to the Nigerians (after all I get tons of e-mail regarding Nigerian Banks and how much I won)then lets hand over the military to Haleburton - the keys to the Pentagon to Saudi Arabia - the White House to the insane (oops - they are already occupying it..sorry). What a joke..and for this hes not being investigated? Every time Bill Clinton coughed there was a investigation costing millions..what about this?? Is there no justice??
February 21st, 2006 at 2:10 pm193)
No kidding. If the story was that the NASCAR franchise was being sold to Saudis you would see the entire south rising up and burning their way to the White House... You can trash the Constitution ...just dont mess with NASCAR.
February 21st, 2006 at 2:11 pmDidn't Bill Clinton allow the Chinese to buy our missile equipment a few years ago?
February 21st, 2006 at 2:11 pmbush, the true patriot-selling our ports to Arab companies
February 21st, 2006 at 2:18 pmCome on guys, when the NUKE goes off in NY Harbor, the BUSHIES dreams will all come true...they will declare martial law, cancel all elections, and they can blame it on UAE. Halliburton and Bechtel will make TRILLIONS in the ongoing wars and OIL will be $300 a barrel--It's all good if you're a filthy rich conservative billionaire. Remember-- when the Bushies say they love democracy, they really mean they HATE democracy. When they say they are spreading democracy in the middle east, they really mean they are spreading crony CAPITALISM. They coldn't give a rat's ass if a country is democratic as long as thier corporate friends (donors) can make money off the cheap labor or controlling the natural resources. Thats' why they hate DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED Hugo Chavez so much--'cause he wont let the CONS RAPE his country. The only thing these republican criminals are good at is fooling half the country into believing that they are working in their best interest. These jerks are laughing all the way to the bank. They are raping the U.S. treasury and bankrupting our future and they use FEAR of TERRORISM to control people. If people paid any attention to HISTORY--this is a classic power grab. Remember when the USA had some BALLS and we weren't a bunch of whiney, moronic fat walmart shopping, American Idol watching, britney spears SHEEP who can't pick up a freaking newspaper for 20 minutes a day to figure out what's going on in OUR OWN COUNTRY. When CHINA/WALMART TAKES OUR ASSES OVER IN A COUPLE DECADES, the red staters won't know what hit them. I'm so sick of these conservatives claiming that the liberals are screwing up our country. The liberals/progressives (ie: revolutionists) are the ones who fought for and started this country. The conservatives were called LOYALISTS back then--as in, pantaloon-wearing rich pantiwaists who wanted the colonies to stay part of the MONARCHY and they've been trying to get a KING back in charge ever since. They are getting pretty close.

February 21st, 2006 at 2:25 pmI heard about Dubai taking over 6 of our ports a week ago from my son. I thought he must have misunderstood. I searched for information on the net and local news papers. I also listened to AA, but NOTHING! Until today that is. Finally I see that AA is getting involved, but not nearly enough. I would like to say this: How can I convince reasonable Republicans (and others) that Air America is worth their time, when the airwaves are jammed with maniacal screaming tirades about Cheney shooting his buddy in the face. They say: "I'd rather go hunting with Cheney than driving with Ted Kennedy". However, the DPW story touches the absolute core of this Country! It also scorches each tentacle from the Bush administration's corrupt center.
Cheney is evil, but the concept that he shot his friend intentionally will not fly. That he was negligent is OBVIOUS. That he did not report it in a timely manner is suspicious. But we are not going to convince anyone that his heart is a hard and withered husk by beating this shooting story to a bloody pulp.
My point is, while comments and revalations about the Cheney shooting abound on the left channel, there is/was NO MENTION of Dubai taking over our ports. I was not even aware that the British were in control until word of this purchase came to light. Good God people, let's focus on the important things so we don't sound like a herd of children! I do not agree with Hillary Clinton on all things, but her legislation to ban foreigners from operating ports is EXACTLY the right (and correct) response. This could bring Bush down fast, let's pump it for all it's worth! JDBOB
February 21st, 2006 at 2:50 pmAs far as Sue goes. I think he/she is hysterical. However the message should be taken seriously. We have no proof who did 911. We do know that firefighers that were there said they saw demolition style explosives going off in the WTC towers, that israeli spys were cheering and taking pictures of the WTC towers and were later caught by FBI because a concerned citizen called the FBI after seeing these people happy about what was going on. We know that the WTC towers could not have fallen because of jet fuel fires as a matter of science. We know that lots of things dont add up and no one has put it all together in a clear picture that makes sense like you would see if investigators were allowed to examine the remains of the towers (which they were not allowed to do).
Is the official story up and up? No one knows because a clear answer has not been put together. Maybe there is an explaination for all the weirdness that happened... but where is it?

Ah ha,....the Bill Clinton defence, my day is complete again.
February 21st, 2006 at 2:58 pmPlease Keep in mind that every ridiculous stunt the Bush Administration pulls. Distracts your attention from more Damaging issues.Inexcussable runaway national debt,an unwinnable & controversial, if not illegal war, the impeachable offence of unwarrented domestic spying, Including the scathing report of the Inept response by the D.H.S. Pre ,post & present Katrina. Add to this that they are trying their absolute best to kill a windfall tax act against the big oil corps for gouging at the pumps last summer.& are currently actively engaged in allowing them to operate royalty FREE in unlimited drilling in American costal waters.
February 21st, 2006 at 3:14 pmI feel for middle America. but as long as they are bemused by simple pet tricks. these serious & consquential actions will continue, until i believe there will be no middle America. How can there be when the govt. borrows $6 out of evey $7 dollars spent. at some point the bill will come due.& when we look to our leaders. I have no doubt that they will answer, in high corporate fashion by taking what they can & getting as far away as possible.
Now this is nothing new one of my anscestors embezzled federal funds in the 1830s.Was caught Tarred & Feathered, Tied to a Pole & run out of D.C. on a rail.& the way i see it, is if it was good enough for him it should be good enough for them.

February 21st, 2006 at 3:23 pm[...] Rumsfeld’s statement was particularly troubling because Dubai Ports World, owned and operated by the UAE government, will also take over a major contract managing the movement of military equipment for the U.S. Army. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Peter Pace, who was at the briefing, also said he found out about the deal over the weekend. The deal was approved on February 13. [...]

February 21st, 2006 at 4:23 pm#214 Don, I had copied this off of the Dubai World's site. It is an official announcement about Dave Sanborn was appointed as Maritime Administrator. I think it's important everyone should read it.
"Dubai, 24 January 2006: - Global ports operator DP World today welcomed news that one of its senior executives, Dave Sanborn, has been nominated by US President George W. Bush to serve as Maritime Administrator a key transportation appointment reporting directly to Norman Mineta the Secretary of Transportation and Cabinet Member.
The White House has issued a statement from Washington DC announcing the nomination. The confirmation process will begin in February.
Mr Sanborn currently holds the position of Director of Operations for Europe and Latin America for the Dubai-based company
Mohammed Sharaf, CEO, DP World said:
“While we are sorry to lose such an experienced and capable executive, it is exactly those qualities that will make Dave an effective administrator for MarAd. We are proud of Dave’s selection and pleased that the Bush Administration found such a capable executive. We wish him all the best in his new role.â€
Mr Sanborn is due to take up his new role based in Washington DC later in 2006."
So, when you say that George Bush didn't know anything about this, don't you think that argument doesn't hold water? Do you think it is a mere coincidence that Dubai is involved?? Bush and Co are making trillions on you as the taxpayers.
February 21st, 2006 at 4:24 pmSomeone needs to ask Bush if these people have a bedroom at the Whitehouse also.
February 21st, 2006 at 4:43 pmWAKE UP AMERICA!!!
What does it take to get your attention people?
A war based on lies?
The deaths of nearly 3,000 of our sons and daughters?
Thousands of permanently disabled soldiers?
Thousands more innocent civilians murdered?
Illegal incarceration of innocent people?
Torture? Abu Gharib? Guantanamo?
The outing of a CIA agent by the Administration?
Running our debt beyond 8 trillion dollars?
Nearly 9 Billion dollars "missing" in Iraq by unscrupulous agents?
Tax cuts for the rich in wartime?
Allowing millions of American jobs to be sent overseas?
Cutting benefits for veterans, education for our kids, and the elderly?
Leaving thousands of innocent Americans stranded in the worst weather catastrophe in our history?
Failing to properly fund and protect our borders?
Spying on millions of American citizens in violation of the law?
And now the latest insult, attempting to turn over the security of our ports to a nation that aided those who helped launch the attack of 911.
What does it take to get your attention?
Your silence has empowered the Bush Administration to flaunt our Constitution and our laws. Your silence has sent the message that there is no limit to what they can do.
Time is running out, wake up, educate yourself on these issues, and take a stand...
before it's too late!
February 21st, 2006 at 4:49 pmMy 2 cents...
1) There is more money to be made building weapons and protecting oil than protecting our borders
2) Our airports/water ports/trains/subways/nuclear plants/borders are just as vulnerable as pre 9/11
3) Progressives can be forward thinking AND still be against an arabic country controlling our ports
February 21st, 2006 at 5:08 pm4) Bush doesn't have a master plan; this is just the best deal in his estimation (...while maybe some of his people get rich in the process as well)
5) I will say that since a majority of terrorist attacks come from extreme muslims w/ an arabic background I AM against UAE controlling our ports
I know this is not on the subject but there seems to be a pattern here. I asked myself a questions a few months back about the bird flu and who was profiting from it. I did a little research and found that Donald Rumsfeld use to be the ceo of the pharmecutical company that supposedly has the only vaccine against the bird flu. The government ordered 2 billion dollars worth of taxpayers money to buy the vaccine. Rumsfeld made a heck of a lot of money because he is a major stock holder. Mark M who wrote #232 is right. US, please, let's wake up!
February 21st, 2006 at 5:22 pmThis is a web site that everyone should look at. It might bring on some important questions.

Hold on a minute.
This has Karl Rove written all over it.
What if this is just a political ploy to make the sitting Republicans look good for taking a stand against Bush? How much would that demonstration of love for American security due to ensure their re-election in November?
And, if the UAE deal falls through, which beloved American corporation or its subsidiary might just wind up with the contract?
Can you say Halliburton?
Every notice how Texas seems to be at the heart of American's heartbreaking decisions?
February 21st, 2006 at 7:06 pmPunchy seems right on target, something else is afoot. Perhaps a big chunk of the missing 8 billion dollars is in the cash 60 Minutes described, stolen by/from Custer Battles. Perhaps it's being shipped back to Texas with help from a company owned by the UAE government, shielded by military secrecy in Texas. Perhaps that's why Paul Wolfowitz is now the head of the World bank, despite a total lack of accounting or banking experience. Big cash, stolen in Iraq, shipped to Texas, laundered in the world bank, ending up in the private accounts of the usual suspects.
February 21st, 2006 at 7:23 pmJust a hypothetical topic for discussion.
Hi Guys, Not a comment, but a question. Today, at around 5:10 MST, Randy spoke of a Town Hall Meeting held last evening that included Harvard Law Prof. Lawrence Tribe and Jim Harper of the Cato Institute. I would like to listen to the audio of that. Where might I find it.
Randy was terrific today.

Cmon people are you really surprised by this sale of our ports by the nazi administration damn he sold out New York on 9/11 folks so wake up! This isn't a democrat or republican issue anymore folks this is about saving our country and the only way we can do that is to overthrow this current government period, they are all corrupt and they all are ripping us off, and we have all got to pull together and take this country back. February 22nd, 2006 at 6:23 amCareyleg
Sue, you are passionate, not crazy.
February 22nd, 2006 at 6:55 amBush probably okayed this contract because he knows there is nothing to fear from terrorists like al Qaeda -- the "war on terrorism" is a ruse, as 184 suggested. Consider the fact that bin Laden just might work for us -- he was tied to the CIA in Afghanistan, and met with a CIA operative while in a British hospital just 2 weeks before 9/11. Remember Poppy Bush's ties to the CIA. The Bush Adminstration's claims that Osama has separated from his"good" family members (with ties to the Bush family) have been disputed (he attended a large bin Laden family wedding after they had renounced him).Despite the fact that he is dragging a dialysis machine behind him, he has not been caught. His "messages" turn up at convenient times for the current administration -whenever the spotlight is on another of their controversial maneuvers
or incredible blunders (almost as conveniently as Mohammed Atta's wallet turned up in a pile of ashes at the WTC scene within hours of the Twin Towers' collapse on 9/11; almost as conveniently as a manual on "How to Fly an Airplane" in Arabic was found in the back seat of the hijackers' supposed rental car discovered on 9/11).
Sue is passionate because she is trying to light a fire under
most Americans, and he frustration is obvious. At the very least,do your homework, expand your thinking capabilities outside of the box, research your hunches and DO NOT dismiss ANYTHING as a conspiracy theory until all the facts are in. You might be surprised at what you learn.
Maybe we need to bring together all the labor unions (what is left of them) May Day is celebrated around the world as labor's official holiday, EVERWHERE BUT THE U.S.
Remember:
The Haymarket Massacre, 1886
"the day will come when our silence
will be more powerful than the voices
you are throttling today."

February 22nd, 2006 at 9:30 amAs a therapist I have understanding about addictions. This administration is addicted to power and financial gain. As with addictsnothing is ever enough...
Now what begins to happen in the addict is they take risk after risk and often seriously endanger those around them. They remain in denial about the consequences and their part and will do anything to get a fix...lie, manipulate, threaten..
In this case the endanger is to the country. We need a intervention...Democrats have some bravery!!!Or someone hurry up!!!

February 22nd, 2006 at 10:06 amThis is no suprise! This is the same president that came to a conclusion that Mars should be visited, 2 months after the declaration of "Operation Iraqi Freedom". Don't impeach him, commit him!
February 22nd, 2006 at 10:51 amIf they were to take control of our airports I would understand...no,no That doesn't make sense either....What???
February 22nd, 2006 at 11:48 amThis whole ports thing brings me to a new level of disgust for our current administration. I swear, these people have no brains; no sense...someone tell me, where is their logic?
Over and over again (weapons of mass distruction; Katrina; Cheney's shooting mishap; Bush just being Bush) our current administration embarasses me. I am completely and utterly ashamed to be an American at this point. Our leaders are such complete morons!!!
Impeach the idiots!!!
February 22nd, 2006 at 11:52 amBush claims that this is an effort to "reach out" and show the Muslim world that he can be fair and wants to work with them. It is hard to convince anybody that you are on their side when you still have tanks rolling through thier streets.
Impeach him now.
February 22nd, 2006 at 12:36 pmThe Sum Of All Fears...
Rescind Mr. President. Faith is a misplaced emotion in the long war on terror, and the assurance that U.S. ports will be secure when they are managed by a firm owned by a government in one of the most volatile parts of the world, is worthless....
February 22nd, 2006 at 12:57 pmThere is nothing racist about concern over letting an Arab country take over something as important as our ports. Why not let Saudi Arabia do our missle maintainence? Anyone who thinks these countrys are our allies because Bush says so should go live there for a few years and see how much they love Americans, especially under the Bush "dark side" regime. Also, after torturing, invading, occupying, stealing oil profits, dissapearing people, etc.I don't think killing a buisness deal is the thing that will "hurt" our close frindship with all Arab people.
February 22nd, 2006 at 2:13 pmMan, I'm glad that I'm no longer a democrat. You people have gotten way braindead. So let me get this straight, you people want to set back trade relations with the UAE 20 years, so the companies that contribute to people like Chuck Schumer get these deals instead. That's not how you do business. You democrats are not taking the House back, I'm sorry.
February 22nd, 2006 at 2:34 pmas bush struggles to show that port security would still be handled by the US, that the UAE would only handle the physical work around the ports, one thing strikes me. We have not secured our ports any better since 9/11 and we don't have any intention to do so because it is not profitable. Once agai the republican administration is only motivated by money, not social responsibility or morality,(as it often claims). This move will allow the infiltration of our ports by terrorists by posing as workers for Dubai to gain easy access to routines, safegaurds, (if there are any), and procedures in order to craft a plan to circumvent them from within or externally. With first hand knowlege of the inner working of our shipping industry, it will become exponentially easier for the Arab fanatics, (those who we are "at war" with), to be successful in their plans to harm this country. As far as the Arab league saying we are being unfair and racist, when they let the Isrealis do the maintanance in their homeland mosques, or the neonazis handle their commerce, then they can shout racism. But doing so will only make them stupid, not tolerant. As for comparing the foreign entity of Great Brittan with an UAE, that is like comparing Bush with Jesus Christ or Muhammad. the only thing they share in common is they walked this planet. end of story.
Now I hear that UAE controls ports around the world. That should make me feel better? Maybe that is how money, weapons and personnel are migrating all around the world to places like Indonesia, Hong Kong, numerous african nations. etc. without a paper trail. Also, just because we were dumb enough to outsource our ports prior to 9/11, does not make it smart, especially now. I'll say it again....this is one oil man rubbing another oil man's back. It is payback for something and I am sure daddy, (king george bush the first),is involved somehow. If it is racist to distrust the enemy, so be it. Better a racist and alive in NJ than stupid, tolerant to a fault and dead in NJ!
February 22nd, 2006 at 2:49 pmOh...BTW...I am still hearing that the King Chimp never knew of the deal until it hit the headlines. If that isn'e a crock of shit, I don't know what is. If it is is the truth, that is even scarrier than him knowing!
February 22nd, 2006 at 2:50 pmhey recoverong Dem........Set back trade relations with the UAE? Unless you own an oil well, they have done nothing for you, me or any other American. And what is the price of progressive trade relations? 3000 dead? 4000? Why don't we normalize trade with Iran? North Korea? Cuba - the huge menace that they are? oh that's right...the Politicians can't make money off of them. It is not a rep or dem issue. Anyone, including Jimmy Carter, (who I admire as a man but I would not vote for in today's political climate), should have their head examined. If you put making a buck before protecting the common man then you are a dirt bag. I guess you feel sorry for the Enron crew, the Tyco crew, Walmart, The gas companies, Richard Nixon, Love canal, Martha Stewert, (the list goes on and on), people who would screw anyone to make a buck while shirking their social responsibilities. I feel sorry for you. I hope your town claims eminent domain and takes your house for a condo unit!
February 22nd, 2006 at 3:08 pmPatriot......Don't forget the outrage we show when the terrorists kidnap women journalists. Just because we raid a home in Iraq looking for "insurgents" then take their wives as bait when they are not there? This administration is no better than they are. I am not proud of how this whole situation is handled. No wonder they hate us so much. Now, that does not give them the right to blow up innocent people or our soldiers, but what they do does not give us the right to tourture, steal, rape, secret prisons and dissappearing people. Is this what we are fighting for? This is the "freedom" we are bringing to the region? NO...this is the money to be made by the rich fat cats running this country, regardless of the party the belong to.
February 22nd, 2006 at 3:17 pmNot that I want to disparage those who find this all infuriating, but when it comes to foreign ownership of American interests, this port issue doesn't even begin to touch the security threats posed by foreign financing of Bush's national debt.
Countries like China and Saudi Arabia, by financing our debts, don't just own and operate a few ports - they own and operate our entire f-ing government.
February 22nd, 2006 at 3:30 pmDamn hypocritical Republicans. I hope things keep going the way they have for them. They deserve every failure they are handed.
February 22nd, 2006 at 3:37 pmSo... I have a question... What percentage is necessary for the house to overturn a presidential veto? Maybe we should militate toward that defense.
February 22nd, 2006 at 3:42 pmI might have a few solutions.
1. Impeach Bush and Cheney, then on the next election, if he runs, vote for Ralph Nader. He simply tells the truth and is in our corner, gosh, his credentials speak for themselves. Could you imagine Nader as President of the United States?? Could you imagine decisions made to protect the average person?? Katrina exposed the ineptitude and greed of this current administration, Nader would expose the corruption in politics, democrats and republicans.
2. stop watching tv and reading main stream newspapers. They are definately slanted and to keep you from thinking, yet believing everything on there. Pick up a book.
3. Drive a hybrid.
This would be a start.
February 22nd, 2006 at 3:57 pmScreening of cargo and personal on foreign ships still remains a "voluntary" program for the shipping companies.
February 22nd, 2006 at 6:40 pmHey Recovering Dem what exactly are you recovering from seems to me you went from to dumb to DUMBER!!!
February 22nd, 2006 at 7:01 pmWhat a joke.2 trillion in debt. Not a chance of my kids finding a job that pays what I make.So let's give away our ports to a government to which all but two of the hijackers on 911 belonged! It has already been proven that NONE of the hijackers were from Iraq. They were from Saudi Arabia and Egypt!!!!!!!Face it,people. It's all about OIL.Kiss their butts enough and they will keep the pipeline flowing.
February 23rd, 2006 at 2:08 amDaryle right on you are and yes 2 of the highjackers where from the UAE but another 12 or 14 were from Saudi plus was proven the financing for 9/11 went thru UAE! Also the nukes that have gotten to Iran and N.Korea went thru the UAE but rest assured Dayrle if the Bush administration says you can trust them YOU CAN"T! It's unbelievable to me how republican supporters can be in such denial and continues to blame or bring up shit Clinton did! As scary as these republicans are man I in a way want this deal to go thru maybe we need to have something happen again under this administration to one get U.S. off their high horse that were the super power of the world and two prove he has sold out America. He already did it with 9/11 but his moron supporters choose not to believe that! But I am willing to bet if a second terrorist attack were to happen on republicans watch they would have to change their minds. What a shame that americans are so ignorant, hateful and conceided to think we get to rule the world and be the only country that can have nukes etc. This is why the other countries hate us not because of our freedom. It's time to revolt fellow americans buy your guns hide them because that will be the next constitutional right Bush and his nazis will take from us they will invade homes to collect arms how much you want to bet? Bush wants to be king and he is succeeding because americans won't wake up! I am also willing to bet he finds a way to stay president before his term ends another terrorist attack they declare marshall law take our arms and they get to remain in power classic nazi move! It's time to fight and bring this government down and start a new one before it's too late for us all!

February 23rd, 2006 at 10:25 pmSo here it starts as I stated the next right they will take from us is our arms well San Francisco is the first state that is banning guns and it won't be the last! Then we have South Dakota banning abortion even if your raped or have been victom of incest and get pregnant you have to have the baby what the hell is wrong with these republicans anyway! So now woman have to carry daddy's or bro's baby wow this country really is getting sickier by the day! The next step is supreme court banning abortion for the whole country told you folks it's time to revolt now before our free country becomes another nazi germany they say history repeats itself and seeing as half of Bush's administration has had nazi ties including the Bushs it's looking like it is going in that direction! I don't know maybe it is just time t leave this country all together!
February 24th, 2006 at 9:34 pmThe size of this deal has been completely underestimated. Although the acquisition includes "ports in 5 major cities", here is a complete list of P & O North American port operations from its web site:
February 24th, 2006 at 11:07 pmPortland, ME
Boston, MA
Davisville, RI
New York/New Jersey
Philadelphia, PA
Camden, NJ
Wilmington, DE
Baltimore, MD
Norfolk, VA
Miami, FL
Gulfport, MS
New Orleans, LA
Lake Charles, LA
Beaumont, TX
Port Arthur, TX
Galveston, TX
Houston, TX
Freeport, TX
Corpus Christi, TX
It's much bigger than previously revealed by the White House, and includes the contract with the United States Surface Deployment and Distribution Command to provide stevedoring [loading and unloading] of military equipment at the Texas ports of Beaumont and Corpus Christi through 2010.
Scary!
Evidently ya'll didn't know about the Chinese running a bunch of American ports, huh?
--- Chinese firms have been operating ports in th U.S. since 1985.
--- Chinese companies run port operations in Long Beach, Oakland, Savannah, Norfolk, New York, Boston, Charleston and Wilmington.
http://www.cosco.com.cn/en/global_o...f.jsp?catId=652

Evidently on 'libs' can bypass the Terms of Use.
As far as my state's charge on abortion.....it's been shown that it's approximately 1/5 rapes that result in a pregnancy. The reasoning, is most rapists aren't in it for the sex. Most don't even 'get off'. It's more to the conquest.
Not to mention, 60% is done by family/friends.......
....and didn't ya'll just force Wal-Mart to carry the "morning after" pill?
Get a grip!
February 26th, 2006 at 1:04 amWatch something other than CNN/ABC/NBC/Cbs....there's a plethora of information available out there if you only LOOK FOR YOURSELVES!
You republicans make me sick! I Bet your a guy rscodak! Be prepared for civil war you rightwing hypocrites if your rightwing supreme court overturns roe v wade most woman and men will not let that fly we are going to stop your nazi like ways in this country. So rscodak are you and your fellow hateful party members going to adopt all these unwanted babies are you and your party ready for the rath that you will endure for your ignorance and incompetence. God no thats right you just fight for their birth then you say their on their own like the scums that you are! There is going to be a revolution in this country very soon to bring down you sick wacko self rightous rightys and I can't wait! Bring it on Boys(rightwingers) oceans have never protected us you morons!
February 26th, 2006 at 8:57 amAnd no shit the chinese are at our ports but they didn't attack us Saudi did. That is why we need this bill to not let foreign countries run our ports period! I hope this deal goes thru really you Bush supporters need to be put in your place and show your incompetence and stupidy once in for all!
February 26th, 2006 at 9:00 amSOUTH DAKOTA SUCKS
February 26th, 2006 at 9:01 amFor those of you just tuning in… Assclowns of the Week: GWB’s Wide World of Ports Edition is up. On the spit this week:

8) Rita Cosby
7) George Bush
6) Michael Chertoff
5) Donald Rumsfeld
4) The US Government
3) The Bush administration

why? i though they were dumb when they went to iraq but this is too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 26th, 2006 at 9:57 pmbush is protecting the terrorists and trying to kill us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 26th, 2006 at 9:59 pmAnyone that believes the American People are in charge of their fate, is more ignorant than the Jews before, and during the Holocast. For me, and mine, until things swing to the American People, I'll NEVER vote for an incumbent in ANY office, of ANY election. The only group of people that suck worse than Republicans, are Democrats. These are EXACTLY the people our Founding Fathers warned us about. Unfortunately, we have the government we deserve. They were 'supposedly' elected by a fair election. I'm beginning to wonder about all of it.
February 27th, 2006 at 5:51 pmWhat the hell is wrong with our president, or should I say, one ignorant b*****d. I am MORE than concerned about this deal. May God have mercy on our country and its hard working citizens....for the potentially harmful outcome....and all because of Bush and his administration's idiotic, unprecedented, foolish, irresponsible actions and behaviours. AMERICANS, PLEASE WAKE UP. A revolution maybe?
February 27th, 2006 at 9:36 pmJDavis you may be right except one thing Republicans suck more than Democrats in everyway! But as I have stated in previous writings they all suck they all are ripping us off and this current government needs to be ousted all the repukes and dems! This port deal is going to go thru and I am willing to gurantee that right before the 2008 election this country gets hit by another terrorist atttack and G Bush and the republicans will be responisable as they were for 9/11 then and only then will his fellow repulicans wake up! So sad
February 28th, 2006 at 4:18 pmYou might as well paint sings on us an say comean attack our people again. What next Mr.Priesedent your going to sell the Arabs our country an kick us out for home an allow them to rape our wemon an childeren. This messed up its time the American people wake up an take action tell these people ok your visit is over got out an go back home your stay is no longer wanted here.

March 1st, 2006 at 2:45 pmIf you folks would like to read a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to John Adams on October 28, 1813, go to this site: http://www.bigeye.com/aristocracy.htm
Thomas Jefferson knew then what could happen now and is happening.
I was caught totally unaware that we did not control our own ports in this country. Currently it is a britiah country soon to be arab.
Not only am I outraged that we would turn over control to an arab country Im outraged that it is a british company before that.
With this idiotic rush to import everything and outsource labor did some moron decide we should outsource our national security?
I dont care what side of the aisle you are on power hungry dems and republican politicians alike should realize this is a sure way to have a catastrophe. If for no other reason than it threatens the only thing they care about. Their power.
This is insanity.
March 2nd, 2006 at 7:35 amI swerved into this site, and sure is a lot of hate and lunacy among the usual moonbat stuff. Slick Willie Clinton sold huge chunks of our security to the Chicoms for cash and to keep buying our treasury notes to float the economy. Most "conservatives" are PO'd by the Port Deal and the truth is, both Bushes are big-government moderates along with many Dem/Repub elite . Looks like they think that port security is important-except if it might interfere with the "Global Economy," same as border control. W and Chertoff have both said this. Even Hillary tried to work an angle to make bank (like Bill is from UAE to grease the deal) before the backlash.
March 7th, 2006 at 11:44 pmHI: I won,t say as much as most of you. I will say this keep posting as free speech is all that will save our country now. KEEP calling your congressmen, and senators.
LAWS need to be passed to keep froeign governements from owning and occupying
our infrastructure. THAT includes ports, railroads, transportation industry, nuclear
power plants. THIS is a constitutional issue about the ports. THE constitution also talks about consorting with the enemy during wartime. READ it you,ll see I am right.
IT may be a good idea if everyone here got a copy off the internet and taught their
friends and relatives what it says. KEEP a copy in all your houses in case they try to destroy it! IF [WE THE PEOPLE] had taught each other this. THEY would never have gotten this far. RUMOR has it bush adminastration is threatening to arrest leak sources along with responseable journalist as well. THEY are also reclassifying
documents as top secret that were given to public when clinton was president.
SO most here are not as crazy as you think.
THIS has gone too far an WE american must band together an stop it!
WE must vote out all the yes men who approve his bushwacking plans.
FOOD for thought.
s we must account for every idle word, so must we account for every
idle silence: Benjamin Franklin
Liberty can not be preserved without general knowledge among people."
(August 1765) John Adams
"When the representative body have lost the confidence of their
constituents, when they have notoriously made sale of their most valuable
rights, when they have assumed to themselves powers which the people never
put into their hands, then indeed their continuing in office becomes
dangerous to the state": by Thomas Jefferson
A CONCERNED AMERICAN VET
March 13th, 2006 at 11:23 amto Wally; a concerned veteran
the American people are finally realizing that the Iraqui war was a hideous mistake.
The Bush government has committed some heinous crimes against our citizens as well as the Iraquis. Americans must take responsibility for not opposing this government's actions.
Democracy means participation, not allowing those elected to twist facts to their advantage and not to keep the truth from the people. Those presently in power who have betrayed our trust must be put out of office and soon.
March 20th, 2006 at 9:20 pm[...] Is Bush really better on security? Then why give control of six U.S. ports to a company from a country with ties to international terrorism? Does Halliburton own stock? [...]
March 30th, 2006 at 3:23 pmU guys are just stupid think about the MONEY maybe somday you might just own a phantom or a BMW or a nice car and a nice house from this deal yes all the weapon stuff but bush can keep an eye on that
