“Donald Rumsfeld is backing off his claim last week that the Pentagon had stopped paying to plant stories in the Iraqi news media,” the AP reports. Rumsfeld today said he “misstated the facts” when he said last Friday that the practice was halted; apparently the program “was put under review” but “he doesn’t know if it continues.”
Why would he stop? It’s going so well.
February 21st, 2006 at 5:13 pmWell Rummy, sometimes you just have to go to press with the story you’ve got – not the one that you wished you had.
February 21st, 2006 at 5:19 pmyet another mistatement(lie) by the bushco administration.
Why would anyone believe anything they say still?
Anyone I know that has lied as much to me as this administration would never be believed again.
February 21st, 2006 at 5:21 pm“Mis-stated the facts”? In normal life, that’s called lying.
February 21st, 2006 at 5:22 pmMaybe if they would stop planting false stories, in the foriegn press, then the intell agencies would stop bringing false stories, from foriegn press, to the white house as credible intell.
February 21st, 2006 at 5:32 pmI thought Bush was a free market kinda guy? He seems rather adamant and out in front of this story??? There is either something really juicy at the bottom of this, or, BushCo is using it as a diversion.
February 21st, 2006 at 5:32 pmoops, wrong story.
February 21st, 2006 at 5:34 pmdonalduck sounds just like ann coulter I hear him say that and then he giggled just like ann coulter.
February 21st, 2006 at 5:46 pmhe doesn’t know if it continues
In other news, he “doesn’t know” if there’s an insurgency, but doubts it. He “doesn’t know” if he can divulge secret information that we’re fighting in Iraq, but he doubts it. He also “doesn’t know” if he’s talking out of his ass or his mouth…he gets them so mixed up nowadays…
February 21st, 2006 at 5:46 pmIt seems that “misstated” and “facts” are congruent with almost all utterances from this administration.
February 21st, 2006 at 5:52 pm10- No kidding. Is there a storyline they have put out that wasn’t subject to the now ubiquitous “mistatement” at a later date?
February 21st, 2006 at 5:58 pm11–I’m racking my brain….maybe I’ll think of something after I eat.
February 21st, 2006 at 6:04 pmBulletin for all those who care…
DEAD AND WORTHLESS ISSUE ALERT!
The administration would like nothing more than that it’s opposition take this bait and pull on it…
It’s the least of all deadly things going on in Iraq, the local planting of ‘Pro-U.S.’ news stories…
Once the bait is taken, and the campaign opposed, the administration is quick to proclaim it saves U.S. Troop’s lives, portraying them as ‘Friendlies’ in the local Iraq media…
It’s a no-lose situation for them, the administration, to troll this issue in the U.S. Press, to see if the opposition will bite at the bait…
At present, this is at least the third time they’ve tried to bait the opposition with this issue…
Bite if you like; nothing would please them more.
(The administration, that is.)
February 21st, 2006 at 6:16 pmHe’s used that line before — in reference to Gitmo, in reference to Abu Ghraib, in reference to the under-outfitted troops. It’s so well practiced.
February 21st, 2006 at 6:23 pmThis is how he gets past the rough questions — soon the press and the public will forget and he will continue on his merry way.
The last time Donald Rusmfeld claimed to know anything, it backfired. In that occasion he said “We know where they are. They’re in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat.”
Since then, he has not been “in the loop” of the creation of the Iraq Stabilisation Group, the lack of proper body armor in military personnel, the outsourcing of the ports operation, and now the planting of stories in the Iraqi media.
His “out-of-loopness” is symptomatic of everything that’s wrong with this administration.
February 21st, 2006 at 6:42 pmIt is impossible to mis-state facts. It can’t be done. I couldn’t write a press release at work and mis-state facts. That is called lying and every technology editor/writer would call me on it. The problem is the White House press corp doesn’t call these bastards on their LIES.
February 21st, 2006 at 7:52 pm“Rummy” is a perfect moniker for someone that sounds like he’s drunk all the time. I bet he can’t even tell us how many fingers he has.
February 21st, 2006 at 10:04 pmPropaganda in America continues as well.
February 21st, 2006 at 10:04 pmJust the latest facade from the Potemkin President.
February 21st, 2006 at 11:57 pmlets practice nonisms

February 22nd, 2006 at 2:35 amMaybe sombody should let the sunnis and shiites know about Rummy’s “information” campaign……and they’d better hurry up…
…cause civil war has just arrived…
February 22nd, 2006 at 12:59 pmIf I didn’t know better…
…I’d swear…
…that room in which the Iraqi shiite clerics were being interviewed in (on a CNN report about the “Golden Dome Mosque bombing”)…
…was the SAME room bin Laden and Al Zawihiri cut one of their videos in…
Nah…couldn’t be…
February 22nd, 2006 at 1:03 pmAgain, liars getting caught. I say, more fodder for the election. I hope they know we are keeping a record.
February 22nd, 2006 at 1:39 pmIf Donald Rumsfeld has shown us once, he’s shown us a thousand times, he is clearly incapable of performing the duties assigned to the Sec.Def. Put this old horse out to pasture, and get someone who can do the job. The way this bunch continues to defend mediocrity, in the face of reality just boggles the mind. You would think they need him to be a failure.
February 23rd, 2006 at 4:36 amhe is a bitch
