To answer your question “Now what?”….it’s time to start pulling back our troops and allow the factions to fight it out. We’re not going to make any difference with the troop levels we have now. Staying the course is no longer an option, even William Buckley can see that (see his National Review article from 24 Feb). Increasing troop levels will not help either nor will the American people stand for it. The Shia majority will dominate in the end. Retributions against Sunnis will increase and a fundamentalist government aligned with Iran will happen. The Iraqi people hate us. No matter how long we stay, that will not change. The NeoCons have created a terrorist breeding ground bigger than Afghanistan. This is what happens when the generals (DoD) are allowed to run foreign policy instead of listening to the people who really understand geopolitics (the State Dept.) McCartyism created the Vietnam fiasco becasue all who understood SE Asia were branded Communists and discredited. I hate to beat the old drum, but those who do not learn from history…

The democrats I think dont speak out against the war because monkey boy Bush might just manage to steal all the worlds oil reserves …therefore most say morgage paying americans , workers, fear for their future …and have hidden ajendas …If Bush pulls this steal off …and America becomes rich again the democatrats will look very foolish …I think and thats why they do not speak out

What people have decided to forget is that Hans Blix and the UN Inspectors were not allowed to finish their investigation of Saddam’s WMDs when W decided to invade Iraq. The inspectors had found nothing and, as we know now, would have found nothing if they had been allowed to finish. The Bushies could not allow that to happen. W and the Neocons of the Progress for a New American Century (PNAC) were going to remove Saddam and were going to use any means necessary to justify the invasion. They wanted to invade Iraq the day after 9/11 without any evidence Saddam was connected. It was the “Pearl Harbor” that they had been waiting for to get the American people behind their plan.

#128 It matters greatly if this adminsitration openly lied to get this war on. Those are criems against the constitution ans ultimately against the Iraqi people if the war is illegal and was brought on via fraudulent means. Since the right like to equate Iraq to WWII remember how that one started in Europe. Hitler raised the argument that his country was in danger of attack from Poland and if memory serves me right even had some of his troops covertly cross the border and fire into Germany to give a reason to launch the war.
