Rove cutting-and-running from Bush?

“Just days after President George W. Bush threw down the gauntlet and vowed to veto any bill in Congress that could delay the transaction, senior Bush advisor Karl Rove said in a radio interview that the president might consider a postponement after all.”

    Postponement isn’t abandonment.

  2. Marie says:

Sounds like a move afoot to buy some time till this all cools down, and then slip it in under the door late one Friday.

  3. Angel says:

    Flip Flop anyone?

  4. George Colombo says:

Here’s what I envision: In a move that’s portrayed by the White House as thoughtful and presidential, Bush will back off the UAE deal, saying that he will respect the will of Congress and that an American company will be selected to administer the port contract. The contract will then be awarded to Haliburton.

The administration is getting cornered at every turn. Rove is trying to let the Prez look in control, but have nothing to do with it. It is very interesting to watch and see if this is a watershed mark where the lose their base. Is this where the heads finally ‘POP’ out of the asses of the middle-american Repuglibots?

  9. Clif says:

No Rove is not cut and running he is phishing a strategy, and trying to get an opening for bush to start to escape, if the deal can be delayed they have time to come up with a better stragety to sell it or get somebody to provide cover for the DPW from a business standpoint, like theDPW buys a company from a european country and allows that company to buy the american the American ports.

  10. ? says:

If this deal doesn’t go through does that mean the US has to give back the 100 million that the UAE just gave the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund?

  11. Cyra Brown says:

    #10 WHAAAAA????? Link?

  12. Clif says:

BTW the DPW company has just agreed to delay part of the deal for P&O which covers the US operations, so everybody has time to figure out how to spin this deal publically and finacially so they get what they want and we are none the wiser.

  13. Cyra Brown says:

So the president thinks we’ll be “comforted”, once we all understand the great care taken with the entire pile of lies they are trying to unload on us ? OH HUH-UH !!! 41 should have pulled out early… But, I digress. The supposed fact that the investigation they are required by law to conduct was in any way “thorough” and “in-depth” is laughable. Considering that one of the Committee members didn’t even know about it, even though he supposedly approved the sale, according to the reported “unanimous” approval by the Committee. And the President didn’t know, or even the Vice President ?!? I know this deal was dealt with secretively, on purpose, of course, but shouldn’t #1 & #2 be “in the know” ? Their exclusion would seem to indicate that others in this administration wield more power, authority, and influence, than George & Dick. Is this possible ?

  14. Insurgents Laughing at Bush says:

They are now deliberately sending mixed messages. Which means it’s time to investigate.

  20. progressive and proud says:

He does what Rove and Cheney tell him. He does not have the intellectual capacity for understanding; no one with such a low IQ can possibly make decisions that a leader has to make. That is why all of businesses failed. That is why he was best at cheerleading in school. He is not the president, a small corporation is the president.

Republicans are ruining the integrity of our branches. Secret meetings only they attend? Come on, a little gridlock is what made this country take great care in passing law. Everyone had to be on board. You know, kind of like the constitution was created for.

But no, secrets abound and now the public sees that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Who doesn’t agree with that? DUH

  21. Roger says:

As much as I dislike and am scared by the action/inaction of the Bush Cabal they’re only doing what the people let them do. 50,000,000 Americans should look in the mirror and see who is really the problem in the USA. They follow in lockstep behind Bush and his political hacks without a thought to what is hapening to their country, their future or their childre,s future. Well, Madison Avenue learned long ago that as long as you give the masses their six pack and their American Idol you can do what you want and the common folk won’t do a thing. The Bush Cabal headed by Rove has learned their lesson well. Feed the masses their happy pills and then steal everything they have!

  22. progressive and proud says:

Roger, I really think that those who still prop up this unconstitutional bunch of idiots are just as “smart” as Bush. See, Bush’s IQ will only allow so much deduction and you know, ignorance is bliss.

You see this from the trolls all day long. They use lots of !!!! and “we won” “we are the best” “we think everyone is just like us” slogans and jargon, but they just don’t really understand what is going on. They only want to win.

They can’t see into the future – no foresight. I believe we can overcome low IQs and ignorance by education very early. Unfortunately, some parents educate their children with video games, tv, and mcdonald’s. They shop at Wal-Mart and come home with a unHappy meal, full of horrible ingrediants. There is no sit down dinner and talk about the day. There is little help from parents with respect to kids’ homework, especially when the parents don’t know enough about the materials the kids are being taught. So, no higher learning at home.

Kids get their education ONLY at school. And when kids are subjected to their parents’ politics at too early an age, just like religion, before they can form their own opinions, will be damned to be “just like the folks” and never better the next generation. That is why we see our children doing worse instead of better in math, science, etc.

And, of course, with the true zealots of ignorance, some wish to apply the supernatural to our science classes and forego the obvious and already been done EVOLUTION. This is dangerous.

Regression is a very dangerous path for us as “evolving” beings. We HAVE to learn from the past. The hatred and lack of respect that the republican party has shown for its counterpart is aggregious and stifles what our Founding Fathers wanted – no one entity in power.

Alas, a positive feeling rushes through me when I recall the 60s, the French Revolution, our Revolution, etc. People will only take so much. And really, do we know what that line is?

  23. progressive and proud says:

Roger, I often wonder how far this blissful ignorance can go. I just can’t understand how so many can be passified by so little. Folks have to see that the void they continually try to fill with Big Macs, Tetris and outlet store shopping will always be there until what is really missing is realized.

Only when all of us are a part of our democracy does it work properly. And when I say “a part” I mean more than voting. I mean learning about what the process is about, how it works and how we are truly in charge of it. Aren’t there civics classes anymore? Or has it been traded out, like our arts classes?
